Genesis 21
Gen 21:1 And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken. (kjv) Gen 21:1 Then the Lord took note of Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had promised. Gen 21:1 καὶ κύριος ἐπεσκέψατο τὴν Σαρραν καθὰ εἶπεν καὶ ἐποίησεν κύριος τῇ Σαρρα καθὰ ἐλάλησεν
Gen 21:2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. (kjv) Gen 21:2 So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him. Gen 21:2 καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἔτεκεν Σαρρα τῷ Αβρααμ υἱὸν εἰς τὸ γῆρας εἰς τὸν καιρόν καθὰ ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ κύριος
Gen 21:3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac. (kjv) Gen 21:3 Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac. Gen 21:3 καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Αβρααμ τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ τοῦ γενομένου αὐτῷ ὃν ἔτεκεν αὐτῷ Σαρρα Ισαακ
Gen 21:4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him. (kjv) Gen 21:4 Then Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. Gen 21:4 περιέτεμεν δὲ Αβρααμ τὸν Ισαακ τῇ ὀγδόῃ ἡμέρᾳ καθὰ ἐνετείλατο αὐτῷ ὁ θεός
Gen 21:5 And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him. (kjv) Gen 21:5 Now Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. Gen 21:5 Αβρααμ δὲ ἦν ἑκατὸν ἐτῶν ἡνίκα ἐγένετο αὐτῷ Ισαακ ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ
Gen 21:6 And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. (kjv) Gen 21:6 Sarah said, "God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me." Gen 21:6 εἶπεν δὲ Σαρρα γέλωτά μοι ἐποίησεν κύριος ὃς γὰρ ἂν ἀκούσῃ συγχαρεῖταί μοι
Gen 21:7 And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age. (kjv) Gen 21:7 And she said, "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age." Gen 21:7 καὶ εἶπεν τίς ἀναγγελεῖ τῷ Αβρααμ ὅτι θηλάζει παιδίον Σαρρα ὅτι ἔτεκον υἱὸν ἐν τῷ γήρει μου
Gen 21:8 And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned. (kjv) Gen 21:8 The child grew and was weaned, and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. Gen 21:8 καὶ ηὐξήθη τὸ παιδίον καὶ ἀπεγαλακτίσθη καὶ ἐποίησεν Αβρααμ δοχὴν μεγάλην ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ ἀπεγαλακτίσθη Ισαακ ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ
Gen 21:9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking. (kjv) Gen 21:9 Now Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking. Gen 21:9 ἰδοῦσα δὲ Σαρρα τὸν υἱὸν Αγαρ τῆς Αἰγυπτίας ὃς ἐγένετο τῷ Αβρααμ παίζοντα μετὰ Ισαακ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτῆς
Gen 21:10 Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac. (kjv) Gen 21:10 Therefore she said to Abraham, "Drive out this maid and her son, for the son of this maid shall not be an heir with my son Isaac." Gen 21:10 καὶ εἶπεν τῷ Αβρααμ ἔκβαλε τὴν παιδίσκην ταύτην καὶ τὸν υἱὸν αὐτῆς οὐ γὰρ κληρονομήσει ὁ υἱὸς τῆς παιδίσκης ταύτης μετὰ τοῦ υἱοῦ μου Ισαακ
Gen 21:11 And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son. (kjv) Gen 21:11 The matter distressed Abraham greatly because of his son. Gen 21:11 σκληρὸν δὲ ἐφάνη τὸ ῥῆμα σφόδρα ἐναντίον Αβρααμ περὶ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ
Gen 21:12 And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called. (kjv) Gen 21:12 But God said to Abraham, "Do not be distressed because of the lad and your maid; whatever Sarah tells you, listen to her, for through Isaac your descendants shall be named. Gen 21:12 εἶπεν δὲ ὁ θεὸς τῷ Αβρααμ μὴ σκληρὸν ἔστω τὸ ῥῆμα ἐναντίον σου περὶ τοῦ παιδίου καὶ περὶ τῆς παιδίσκης πάντα ὅσα ἐὰν εἴπῃ σοι Σαρρα ἄκουε τῆς φωνῆς αὐτῆς ὅτι ἐν Ισαακ κληθήσεταί σοι σπέρμα
Gen 21:13 And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed. (kjv) Gen 21:13 And of the son of the maid I will make a nation also, because he is your descendant." Gen 21:13 καὶ τὸν υἱὸν δὲ τῆς παιδίσκης ταύτης εἰς ἔθνος μέγα ποιήσω αὐτόν ὅτι σπέρμα σόν ἐστιν
Gen 21:14 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba. (kjv) Gen 21:14 So Abraham rose early in the morning and took bread and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar, putting them on her shoulder, and gave her the boy, and sent her away. And she departed and wandered about in the wilderness of Beersheba. Gen 21:14 ἀνέστη δὲ Αβρααμ τὸ πρωὶ καὶ ἔλαβεν ἄρτους καὶ ἀσκὸν ὕδατος καὶ ἔδωκεν Αγαρ καὶ ἐπέθηκεν ἐπὶ τὸν ὦμον καὶ τὸ παιδίον καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτήν ἀπελθοῦσα δὲ ἐπλανᾶτο τὴν ἔρημον κατὰ τὸ φρέαρ τοῦ ὅρκου
Gen 21:15 And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs. (kjv) Gen 21:15 When the water in the skin was used up, she left the boy under one of the bushes. Gen 21:15 ἐξέλιπεν δὲ τὸ ὕδωρ ἐκ τοῦ ἀσκοῦ καὶ ἔρριψεν τὸ παιδίον ὑποκάτω μιᾶς ἐλάτης
Gen 21:16 And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bow shot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept. (kjv) Gen 21:16 Then she went and sat down opposite him, about a bowshot away, for she said, "Do not let me see the boy die." And she sat opposite him, and lifted up her voice and wept. Gen 21:16 ἀπελθοῦσα δὲ ἐκάθητο ἀπέναντι αὐτοῦ μακρόθεν ὡσεὶ τόξου βολήν εἶπεν γάρ οὐ μὴ ἴδω τὸν θάνατον τοῦ παιδίου μου καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἀπέναντι αὐτοῦ ἀναβοῆσαν δὲ τὸ παιδίον ἔκλαυσεν
Gen 21:17 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is. (kjv) Gen 21:17 God heard the lad crying; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, "What is the matter with you, Hagar? Do not fear, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. Gen 21:17 εἰσήκουσεν δὲ ὁ θεὸς τῆς φωνῆς τοῦ παιδίου ἐκ τοῦ τόπου οὗ ἦν καὶ ἐκάλεσεν ἄγγελος τοῦ θεοῦ τὴν Αγαρ ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ τί ἐστιν Αγαρ μὴ φοβοῦ ἐπακήκοεν γὰρ ὁ θεὸς τῆς φωνῆς τοῦ παιδίου σου ἐκ τοῦ τόπου οὗ ἐστιν
Gen 21:18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation. (kjv) Gen 21:18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him by the hand, for I will make a great nation of him." Gen 21:18 ἀνάστηθι λαβὲ τὸ παιδίον καὶ κράτησον τῇ χειρί σου αὐτό εἰς γὰρ ἔθνος μέγα ποιήσω αὐτόν
Gen 21:19 And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink. (kjv) Gen 21:19 Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the skin with water and gave the lad a drink. Gen 21:19 καὶ ἀνέῳξεν ὁ θεὸς τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῆς καὶ εἶδεν φρέαρ ὕδατος ζῶντος καὶ ἐπορεύθη καὶ ἔπλησεν τὸν ἀσκὸν ὕδατος καὶ ἐπότισεν τὸ παιδίον
Gen 21:20 And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer. (kjv) Gen 21:20 God was with the lad, and he grew; and he lived in the wilderness and became an archer. Gen 21:20 καὶ ἦν ὁ θεὸς μετὰ τοῦ παιδίου καὶ ηὐξήθη καὶ κατῴκησεν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἐγένετο δὲ τοξότης
Gen 21:21 And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran: and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt. (kjv) Gen 21:21 He lived in the wilderness of Paran, and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt. Gen 21:21 καὶ κατῴκησεν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τῇ Φαραν καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτῷ ἡ μήτηρ γυναῖκα ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου
Gen 21:22 And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phichol the chief captain of his host spake unto Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest: (kjv) Gen 21:22 Now it came about at that time that Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, spoke to Abraham, saying, "God is with you in all that you do; Gen 21:22 ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ καὶ εἶπεν Αβιμελεχ καὶ Οχοζαθ ὁ νυμφαγωγὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ Φικολ ὁ ἀρχιστράτηγος τῆς δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ πρὸς Αβρααμ λέγων ὁ θεὸς μετὰ σοῦ ἐν πᾶσιν οἷς ἐὰν ποιῇς
Gen 21:23 Now therefore swear unto me here by God that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned. (kjv) Gen 21:23 now therefore, swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me or with my offspring or with my posterity, but according to the kindness that I have shown to you, you shall show to me and to the land in which you have sojourned." Gen 21:23 νῦν οὖν ὄμοσόν μοι τὸν θεὸν μὴ ἀδικήσειν με μηδὲ τὸ σπέρμα μου μηδὲ τὸ ὄνομά μου ἀλλὰ κατὰ τὴν δικαιοσύνην ἣν ἐποίησα μετὰ σοῦ ποιήσεις μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ καὶ τῇ γῇ ᾗ σὺ παρῴκησας ἐν αὐτῇ
Gen 21:24 And Abraham said, I will swear. (kjv) Gen 21:24 Abraham said, "I swear it." Gen 21:24 καὶ εἶπεν Αβρααμ ἐγὼ ὀμοῦμαι
Gen 21:25 And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water, which Abimelech's servants had violently taken away. (kjv) Gen 21:25 But Abraham complained to Abimelech because of the well of water which the servants of Abimelech had seized. Gen 21:25 καὶ ἤλεγξεν Αβρααμ τὸν Αβιμελεχ περὶ τῶν φρεάτων τοῦ ὕδατος ὧν ἀφείλαντο οἱ παῖδες τοῦ Αβιμελεχ
Gen 21:26 And Abimelech said, I wot not who hath done this thing; neither didst thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but to day. (kjv) Gen 21:26 And Abimelech said, "I do not know who has done this thing; you did not tell me, nor did I hear of it until today." Gen 21:26 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Αβιμελεχ οὐκ ἔγνων τίς ἐποίησεν τὸ πρᾶγμα τοῦτο οὐδὲ σύ μοι ἀπήγγειλας οὐδὲ ἐγὼ ἤκουσα ἀλλ᾽ ἢ σήμερον
Gen 21:27 And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant. (kjv) Gen 21:27 Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made a covenant. Gen 21:27 καὶ ἔλαβεν Αβρααμ πρόβατα καὶ μόσχους καὶ ἔδωκεν τῷ Αβιμελεχ καὶ διέθεντο ἀμφότεροι διαθήκην
Gen 21:28 And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves. (kjv) Gen 21:28 Then Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves. Gen 21:28 καὶ ἔστησεν Αβρααμ ἑπτὰ ἀμνάδας προβάτων μόνας
Gen 21:29 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What mean these seven ewe lambs which thou hast set by themselves? (kjv) Gen 21:29 Abimelech said to Abraham, "What do these seven ewe lambs mean, which you have set by themselves?" Gen 21:29 καὶ εἶπεν Αβιμελεχ τῷ Αβρααμ τί εἰσιν αἱ ἑπτὰ ἀμνάδες τῶν προβάτων τούτων ἃς ἔστησας μόνας
Gen 21:30 And he said, For these seven ewe lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witness unto me, that I have digged this well. (kjv) Gen 21:30 He said, "You shall take these seven ewe lambs from my hand so that it may be a witness to me, that I dug this well." Gen 21:30 καὶ εἶπεν Αβρααμ ὅτι τὰς ἑπτὰ ἀμνάδας ταύτας λήμψῃ παρ᾽ ἐμοῦ ἵνα ὦσίν μοι εἰς μαρτύριον ὅτι ἐγὼ ὤρυξα τὸ φρέαρ τοῦτο
Gen 21:31 Wherefore he called that place Beersheba; because there they sware both of them. (kjv) Gen 21:31 Therefore he called that place Beersheba, because there the two of them took an oath. Gen 21:31 διὰ τοῦτο ἐπωνόμασεν τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου Φρέαρ ὁρκισμοῦ ὅτι ἐκεῖ ὤμοσαν ἀμφότεροι
Gen 21:32 Thus they made a covenant at Beersheba: then Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines. (kjv) Gen 21:32 So they made a covenant at Beersheba; and Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, arose and returned to the land of the Philistines. Gen 21:33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God. (kjv) Gen 21:33 Abraham planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God. Gen 21:33 καὶ ἐφύτευσεν Αβρααμ ἄρουραν ἐπὶ τῷ φρέατι τοῦ ὅρκου καὶ ἐπεκαλέσατο ἐκεῖ τὸ ὄνομα κυρίου θεὸς αἰώνιος
Gen 21:34 And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines' land many days.(kjv) Gen 21:34 And Abraham sojourned in the land of the Philistines for many days. Gen 21:34 παρῴκησεν δὲ Αβρααμ ἐν τῇ γῇ τῶν Φυλιστιιμ ἡμέρας πολλάς
