2 Kings 18
2Ki 18:1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign. 2Ki 18:1 Now it came about in the third year of Hoshea, the son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah became king. 2Ki 18:2 Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah. 2Ki 18:2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah. 2Ki 18:3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did. 2Ki 18:3 He did right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father David had done. 2Ki 18 4 He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it and he called it Nehushtan. 2Ki 18:4 He removed the high places and broke down the sacred pillars and cut down the Asherah. 2Ki 18:7 And the LORD was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not. 2Ki 18:7 And the Lord was with him; wherever he went he prospered. 2Ki 18:8 He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city. 2Ki 18:8 He defeated the Philistines as far as Gaza and its territory, from watchtower to fortified city. 2Ki 18:10 And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is in the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken. 2Ki 18:10 At the end of three years they captured it; in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was captured. 2Ki 18:12 Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them. 2Ki 18:12 because they did not obey the voice of the Lord their God, but transgressed His covenant, even all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded; they would neither listen nor do it. 2Ki 18:13 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them. 2Ki 18:13 Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and seized them. 2Ki 18:14 And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold. 2Ki 18:14 Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, "I have done wrong. Withdraw from me; whatever you impose on me I will bear." So the king of Assyria required of Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold. Kg2 18:14 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Εζεκιας βασιλεὺς Ιουδα ἀγγέλους πρὸς βασιλέα Ἀσσυρίων εἰς Λαχις λέγων ἡμάρτηκα ἀποστράφητι ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ ὃ ἐὰν ἐπιθῇς ἐπ᾽ ἐμέ βαστάσω καὶ ἐπέθηκεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἀσσυρίων ἐπὶ Εζεκιαν βασιλέα Ιουδα τριακόσια τάλαντα ἀργυρίου καὶ τριάκοντα τάλαντα χρυσίου

2Ki 18:17 And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller's field. 2Ki 18:17 Then the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rab-saris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a large army to Jerusalem. 2Ki 18:18 And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder. 2Ki 18:18 When they called to the king, Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, came out to them. 2Ki 18:19 And Rabshakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest? 2Ki 18:19 Then Rabshakeh said to them, "Say now to Hezekiah, 'Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, "What is this confidence that you have? Kg2 18:19 καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς Ραψακης εἴπατε δὴ πρὸς Εζεκιαν τάδε λέγει ὁ βασιλεὺς ὁ μέγας βασιλεὺς Ἀσσυρίων τίς ἡ πεποίθησις αὕτη ἣν πέποιθας
2Ki 18:20 Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me? 2Ki 18:20 You say (but they are only empty words), 'I have counsel and strength for the war.' Now on whom do you rely, that you have rebelled against me? Kg2 18:20 εἶπας πλὴν λόγοι χειλέων βουλὴ καὶ δύναμις εἰς πόλεμον νῦν οὖν τίνι πεποιθὼς ἠθέτησας ἐν ἐμοί
2Ki 18:21 Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him. 2Ki 18:21 Now behold, you rely on the staff of this crushed reed, even on Egypt; on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who rely on him. Kg2 18:21 νῦν ἰδοὺ πέποιθας σαυτῷ ἐπὶ τὴν ῥάβδον τὴν καλαμίνην τὴν τεθλασμένην ταύτην ἐπ᾽ Αἴγυπτον ὃς ἂν στηριχθῇ ἀνὴρ ἐπ᾽ αὐτήν καὶ εἰσελεύσεται εἰς τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ καὶ τρήσει αὐτήν οὕτως Φαραω βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου πᾶσιν τοῖς πεποιθόσιν ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν
2Ki 18:22 But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem? 2Ki 18:22 But if you say to me, 'We trust in the Lord our God,' is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, 'You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem'? Kg2 18:22 καὶ ὅτι εἶπας πρός με ἐπὶ κύριον θεὸν πεποίθαμεν οὐχὶ αὐτὸς οὗτος οὗ ἀπέστησεν Εζεκιας τὰ ὑψηλὰ αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ θυσιαστήρια αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν τῷ Ιουδα καὶ τῇ Ιερουσαλημ ἐνώπιον τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου τούτου προσκυνήσετε ἐν Ιερουσαλημ
2Ki 18:23 Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them. 2Ki 18:23 Now therefore, come, make a bargain with my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them. 2Ki 18:25 Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? 2Ki 18:26 Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews' language in the ears of the people that are on the wall. 2Ki 18:26 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, "Speak now to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it; and do not speak with us in Judean in the hearing of the people who are on the wall." 2Ki 18:27 But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you? 2Ki 18:27 But Rabshakeh said to them, "Has my master sent me only to your master and to you to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, doomed to eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?" Kg2 18:27 καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς Ραψακης μὴ ἐπὶ τὸν κύριόν σου καὶ πρὸς σὲ ἀπέστειλέν με ὁ κύριός μου λαλῆσαι τοὺς λόγους τούτους οὐχὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἄνδρας τοὺς καθημένους ἐπὶ τοῦ τείχους τοῦ φαγεῖν τὴν κόπρον αὐτῶν καὶ πιεῖν τὸ οὖρον αὐτῶν μεθ᾽ ὑμῶν ἅμα
2Ki 18:28 Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and spake, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria: 2Ki 18:28 Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in Judean, saying, "Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria. 2Ki 18 29 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand 2Ki 18:29 Thus says the king, 'Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you from my hand; Kg2 18:29 τάδε λέγει ὁ βασιλεύς μὴ ἐπαιρέτω ὑμᾶς Εζεκιας λόγοις ὅτι οὐ μὴ δύνηται ὑμᾶς ἐξελέσθαι ἐκ χειρός μου
2Ki 18:30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria. 2Ki 18:30 nor let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, "The Lord will surely deliver us, and this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria." Kg2 18:30 καὶ μὴ ἐπελπιζέτω ὑμᾶς Εζεκιας πρὸς κύριον λέγων ἐξαιρούμενος ἐξελεῖται ἡμᾶς κύριος οὐ μὴ παραδοθῇ ἡ πόλις αὕτη ἐν χειρὶ βασιλέως Ἀσσυρίων
2Ki 18 31 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern 2Ki 18:31 Do not listen to Hezekiah, for thus says the king of Assyria, "Make your peace with me and come out to me, and eat each of his vine and each of his fig tree and drink each of the waters of his own cistern, Kg2 18:31 μὴ ἀκούετε Εζεκιου ὅτι τάδε λέγει ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἀσσυρίων ποιήσατε μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ εὐλογίαν καὶ ἐξέλθατε πρός με καὶ πίεται ἀνὴρ τὴν ἄμπελον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀνὴρ τὴν συκῆν αὐτοῦ φάγεται καὶ πίεται ὕδωρ τοῦ λάκκου αὐτοῦ
2Ki 18:32 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. 2Ki 18:32 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and honey, that you may live and not die." But do not listen to Hezekiah when he misleads you, saying, "The Lord will deliver us." Kg2 18:32 ἕως ἔλθω καὶ λάβω ὑμᾶς εἰς γῆν ὡς γῆ ὑμῶν γῆ σίτου καὶ οἴνου καὶ ἄρτου καὶ ἀμπελώνων γῆ ἐλαίας ἐλαίου καὶ μέλιτος καὶ ζήσετε καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνητε καὶ μὴ ἀκούετε Εζεκιου ὅτι ἀπατᾷ ὑμᾶς λέγων κύριος ῥύσεται ἡμᾶς
2Ki 18:33 Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? 2Ki 18:33 Has any one of the gods of the nations delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria? Kg2 18:33 μὴ ῥυόμενοι ἐρρύσαντο οἱ θεοὶ τῶν ἐθνῶν ἕκαστος τὴν ἑαυτοῦ χώραν ἐκ χειρὸς βασιλέως Ἀσσυρίων
2Ki 18:34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand? 2Ki 18:34 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand?
