Job 17:1 My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.

Job 17:1 "My spirit is broken, my days are extinguished, The grave is ready for me.
|
Job 17:1 ὀλέκομαι πνεύματι φερόμενος δέομαι δὲ ταφῆς καὶ οὐ τυγχάνω
|
Job 17:2 Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation?
|
Job 17:2 "Surely mockers are with me, And my eye gazes on their provocation.
|
Job 17:2 λίσσομαι κάμνων καὶ τί ποιήσας
|
Job 17:3 Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?
|
Job 17:3 "Lay down, now, a pledge for me with Yourself; Who is there that will be my guarantor?
|
Job 17:3 ἔκλεψαν δέ μου τὰ ὑπάρχοντα ἀλλότριοι τίς ἐστιν οὗτος τῇ χειρί μου συνδεθήτω
|
Job 17:4 For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.
|
Job 17:4 "For You have kept their heart from understanding, Therefore You will not exalt them.
|
Job 17:4 ὅτι καρδίαν αὐτῶν ἔκρυψας ἀπὸ φρονήσεως διὰ τοῦτο οὐ μὴ ὑψώσῃς αὐτούς
|
Job 17:5 He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.
|
Job 17:5 "He who informs against friends for a share of the spoil, The eyes of his children also will languish.
|
Job 17:5 τῇ μερίδι ἀναγγελεῖ κακίας ὀφθαλμοὶ δέ μου ἐφ᾽ υἱοῖς ἐτάκησαν
|
Job 17:6 He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret.
|
Job 17:6 "But He has made me a byword of the people, And I am one at whom men spit.
|
Job 17:6 ἔθου δέ με θρύλημα ἐν ἔθνεσιν γέλως δὲ αὐτοῖς ἀπέβην
|
Job 17:7 Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.
|
Job 17:7 "My eye has also grown dim because of grief, And all my members are as a shadow.
|
Job 17:7 πεπώρωνται γὰρ ἀπὸ ὀργῆς οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου πεπολιόρκημαι μεγάλως ὑπὸ πάντων
|
Job 17:8 Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.
|
Job 17:8 "The upright will be appalled at this, And the innocent will stir up himself against the godless.
|
Job 17:8 θαῦμα ἔσχεν ἀληθινοὺς ἐπὶ τούτῳ δίκαιος δὲ ἐπὶ παρανόμῳ ἐπανασταίη
|
Job 17:9 The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.
|
Job 17:9 "Nevertheless the righteous will hold to his way, And he who has clean hands will grow stronger and stronger.
|
Job 17:9 σχοίη δὲ πιστὸς τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ὁδόν καθαρὸς δὲ χεῖρας ἀναλάβοι θάρσος
|
Job 17:10 But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.
|
Job 17:10 "But come again all of you now, For I do not find a wise man among you.
|
Job 17:10 οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ πάντες ἐρείδετε καὶ δεῦτε δή οὐ γὰρ εὑρίσκω ἐν ὑμῖν ἀληθές
|
Job 17:11 My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.
|
Job 17:11 "My days are past, my plans are torn apart, Even the wishes of my heart.
|
Job 17:11 αἱ ἡμέραι μου παρῆλθον ἐν βρόμῳ ἐρράγη δὲ τὰ ἄρθρα τῆς καρδίας μου
|
Job 17:12 They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.
|
Job 17:12 "They make night into day, saying, 'The light is near,' in the presence of darkness.
|
Job 17:12 νύκτα εἰς ἡμέραν ἔθηκαν φῶς ἐγγὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου σκότους
|
Job 17:13 If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.
|
Job 17:13 "If I look for Sheol as my home, I make my bed in the darkness;
|
Job 17:13 ἐὰν γὰρ ὑπομείνω ᾅδης μου ὁ οἶκος ἐν δὲ γνόφῳ ἔστρωταί μου ἡ στρωμνή
|
Job 17:14 I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister.
|
Job 17:14 If I call to the pit, 'You are my father'; To the worm, 'my mother and my sister';
|
Job 17:14 θάνατον ἐπεκαλεσάμην πατέρα μου εἶναι μητέρα δέ μου καὶ ἀδελφὴν σαπρίαν
|
Job 17:15 And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?
|
Job 17:15 Where now is my hope? And who regards my hope?
|
Job 17:15 ποῦ οὖν μου ἔτι ἐστὶν ἡ ἐλπίς ἦ τὰ ἀγαθά μου ὄψομαι
|
Job 17:16 They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
|
Job 17:16 "Will it go down with me to Sheol? Shall we together go down into the dust?"
|
Job 17:16 ἦ μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ εἰς ᾅδην καταβήσονται ἢ ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἐπὶ χώματος καταβησόμεθα
|
Job 18:1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

Job 18:1 Then Bildad the Shuhite responded,
|
Job 18:1 ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Βαλδαδ ὁ Σαυχίτης λέγει
|
Job 18:2 How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.
|
Job 18:2 "How long will you hunt for words? Show understanding and then we can talk.
|
Job 18:2 μέχρι τίνος οὐ παύσῃ ἐπίσχες ἵνα καὶ αὐτοὶ λαλήσωμεν
|
Job 18:3 Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?
|
Job 18:3 "Why are we regarded as beasts, As stupid in your eyes?
|
Job 18:3 διὰ τί ὥσπερ τετράποδα σεσιωπήκαμεν ἐναντίον σου
|
Job 18:4 He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?
|
Job 18:4 "O you who tear yourself in your anger-- For your sake is the earth to be abandoned, Or the rock to be moved from its place?
|
Job 18:4 κέχρηταί σοι ὀργή τί γάρ ἐὰν σὺ ἀποθάνῃς ἀοίκητος ἡ ὑπ᾽ οὐρανόν ἢ καταστραφήσεται ὄρη ἐκ θεμελίων
|
Job 18:5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.
|
Job 18:5 "Indeed, the light of the wicked goes out, And the flame of his fire gives no light.
|
Job 18:5 καὶ φῶς ἀσεβῶν σβεσθήσεται καὶ οὐκ ἀποβήσεται αὐτῶν ἡ φλόξ
|
Job 18:6 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.
|
Job 18:6 "The light in his tent is darkened, And his lamp goes out above him.
|
Job 18:6 τὸ φῶς αὐτοῦ σκότος ἐν διαίτῃ ὁ δὲ λύχνος ἐπ᾽ αὐτῷ σβεσθήσεται
|
Job 18:7 The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.
|
Job 18:7 "His vigorous stride is shortened, And his own scheme brings him down.
|
Job 18:7 θηρεύσαισαν ἐλάχιστοι τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτοῦ σφάλαι δὲ αὐτοῦ ἡ βουλή
|
Job 18:8 For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare.
|
Job 18:8 "For he is thrown into the net by his own feet, And he steps on the webbing.
|
Job 18:8 ἐμβέβληται δὲ ὁ ποὺς αὐτοῦ ἐν παγίδι ἐν δικτύῳ ἑλιχθείη
|
Job 18:9 The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.
|
Job 18:9 "A snare seizes him by the heel, And a trap snaps shut on him.
|
Job 18:9 ἔλθοισαν δὲ ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν παγίδες κατισχύσει ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν διψῶντας
|
Job 18:10 The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.
|
Job 18:10 "A noose for him is hidden in the ground, And a trap for him on the path.
|
Job 18:10 κέκρυπται ἐν τῇ γῇ σχοινίον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ σύλλημψις αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τρίβων
|
Job 18:11 Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.
|
Job 18:11 "All around terrors frighten him, And harry him at every step.
|
Job 18:11 κύκλῳ ὀλέσαισαν αὐτὸν ὀδύναι πολλοὶ δὲ περὶ πόδας αὐτοῦ ἔλθοισαν ἐν λιμῷ στενῷ
|
Job 18:12 His strength shall be hungerbitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side.
|
Job 18:12 "His strength is famished, And calamity is ready at his side.
|
Job 18:12 πτῶμα δὲ αὐτῷ ἡτοίμασται ἐξαίσιον
|
Job 18:13 It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength.
|
Job 18:13 "His skin is devoured by disease, The firstborn of death devours his limbs.
|
Job 18:13 βρωθείησαν αὐτοῦ κλῶνες ποδῶν κατέδεται δὲ τὰ ὡραῖα αὐτοῦ θάνατος
|
Job 18:14 His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.
|
Job 18:14 "He is torn from the security of his tent, And they march him before the king of terrors.
|
Job 18:14 ἐκραγείη δὲ ἐκ διαίτης αὐτοῦ ἴασις σχοίη δὲ αὐτὸν ἀνάγκη αἰτίᾳ βασιλικῇ
|
Job 18:15 It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.
|
Job 18:15 "There dwells in his tent nothing of his; Brimstone is scattered on his habitation.
|
Job 18:15 κατασκηνώσει ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ αὐτοῦ ἐν νυκτὶ αὐτοῦ κατασπαρήσονται τὰ εὐπρεπῆ αὐτοῦ θείῳ
|
Job 18:16 His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.
|
Job 18:16 "His roots are dried below, And his branch is cut off above.
|
Job 18:16 ὑποκάτωθεν αἱ ῥίζαι αὐτοῦ ξηρανθήσονται καὶ ἐπάνωθεν ἐπιπεσεῖται θερισμὸς αὐτοῦ
|
Job 18:17 His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.
|
Job 18:17 "Memory of him perishes from the earth, And he has no name abroad.
|
Job 18:17 τὸ μνημόσυνον αὐτοῦ ἀπόλοιτο ἐκ γῆς καὶ ὑπάρχει ὄνομα αὐτῷ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἐξωτέρω
|
Job 18:18 He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.
|
Job 18:18 "He is driven from light into darkness, And chased from the inhabited world.
|
Job 18:18 ἀπώσειεν αὐτὸν ἐκ φωτὸς εἰς σκότος
|
Job 18:19 He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.
|
Job 18:19 "He has no offspring or posterity among his people, Nor any survivor where he sojourned.
|
Job 18:19 οὐκ ἔσται ἐπίγνωστος ἐν λαῷ αὐτοῦ οὐδὲ σεσῳσμένος ἐν τῇ ὑπ᾽ οὐρανὸν ὁ οἶκος αὐτοῦ ἀλλ᾽ ἐν τοῖς αὐτοῦ ζήσονται ἕτεροι
|
Job 18:20 They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.
|
Job 18:20 "Those in the west are appalled at his fate, And those in the east are seized with horror.
|
Job 18:20 ἐπ᾽ αὐτῷ ἐστέναξαν ἔσχατοι πρώτους δὲ ἔσχεν θαῦμα
|
Job 18:21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.
|
Job 18:21 "Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, And this is the place of him who does not know God."
|
Job 18:21 οὗτοί εἰσιν οἶκοι ἀδίκων οὗτος δὲ ὁ τόπος τῶν μὴ εἰδότων τὸν κύριον
|
Job 19:1 Then Job answered and said,

|
Job 19:1 ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ιωβ λέγει
|
Job 19:2 How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?
|
Job 19:2 "How long will you torment me And crush me with words?
|
Job 19:2 ἕως τίνος ἔγκοπον ποιήσετε ψυχήν μου καὶ καθαιρεῖτε με λόγοις
|
Job 19:3 These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.
|
Job 19:3 "These ten times you have insulted me; You are not ashamed to wrong me.
|
Job 19:3 γνῶτε μόνον ὅτι ὁ κύριος ἐποίησέ με οὕτως καταλαλεῖτέ μου οὐκ αἰσχυνόμενοί με ἐπίκεισθέ μοι
|
Job 19:4 And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.
|
Job 19:4 "Even if I have truly erred, My error lodges with me.
|
Job 19:4 ναὶ δὴ ἐπ᾽ ἀληθείας ἐγὼ ἐπλανήθην παρ᾽ ἐμοὶ δὲ αὐλίζεται πλάνος ~ λαλῆσαι ῥῆμα ὃ οὐκ ἔδει τὰ δὲ ῥήματά μου πλανᾶται καὶ οὐκ ἐπὶ καιροῦ
|
Job 19:5 If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:
|
Job 19:5 "If indeed you vaunt yourselves against me And prove my disgrace to me,
|
Job 19:5 ἔα δὲ ὅτι ἐπ᾽ ἐμοὶ μεγαλύνεσθε ἐνάλλεσθε δέ μοι ὀνείδει
|
Job 19:6 Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.
|
Job 19:6 Know then that God has wronged me And has closed His net around me.
|
Job 19:6 γνῶτε οὖν ὅτι ὁ κύριός ἐστιν ὁ ταράξας ὀχύρωμα δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπ᾽ ἐμὲ ὕψωσεν
|
Job 19:7 Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.
|
Job 19:7 "Behold, I cry, 'Violence!' but I get no answer; I shout for help, but there is no justice.
|
Job 19:7 ἰδοὺ γελῶ ὀνείδει καὶ οὐ λαλήσω κεκράξομαι καὶ οὐδαμοῦ κρίμα
|
Job 19:8 He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.
|
Job 19:8 "He has walled up my way so that I cannot pass, And He has put darkness on my paths.
|
Job 19:8 κύκλῳ περιῳκοδόμημαι καὶ οὐ μὴ διαβῶ ἐπὶ πρόσωπόν μου σκότος ἔθετο
|
Job 19:9 He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.
|
Job 19:9 "He has stripped my honor from me And removed the crown from my head.
|
Job 19:9 τὴν δὲ δόξαν ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ ἐξέδυσεν ἀφεῖλεν δὲ στέφανον ἀπὸ κεφαλῆς μου
|
Job 19:10 He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.
|
Job 19:10 "He breaks me down on every side, and I am gone; And He has uprooted my hope like a tree.
|
Job 19:10 διέσπασέν με κύκλῳ καὶ ᾠχόμην ἐξέκοψεν δὲ ὥσπερ δένδρον τὴν ἐλπίδα μου
|
Job 19:11 He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.
|
Job 19:11 "He has also kindled His anger against me And considered me as His enemy.
|
Job 19:11 δεινῶς δέ μοι ὀργῇ ἐχρήσατο ἡγήσατο δέ με ὥσπερ ἐχθρόν
|
Job 19:12 His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle.
|
Job 19:12 "His troops come together, And build up their way against me And camp around my tent.
|
Job 19:12 ὁμοθυμαδὸν δὲ ἦλθον τὰ πειρατήρια αὐτοῦ ἐπ᾽ ἐμοὶ ταῖς ὁδοῖς μου ἐκύκλωσάν με ἐγκάθετοι
|
Job 19:13 He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me.
|
Job 19:13 "He has removed my brothers far from me, And my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.
|
Job 19:13 ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ δὲ ἀδελφοί μου ἀπέστησαν ἔγνωσαν ἀλλοτρίους ἢ ἐμέ φίλοι δέ μου ἀνελεήμονες γεγόνασιν
|
Job 19:14 My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.
|
Job 19:14 "My relatives have failed, And my intimate friends have forgotten me.
|
Job 19:14 οὐ προσεποιήσαντό με οἱ ἐγγύτατοί μου καὶ οἱ εἰδότες μου τὸ ὄνομα ἐπελάθοντό μου
|
Job 19:15 They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.
|
Job 19:15 "Those who live in my house and my maids consider me a stranger. I am a foreigner in their sight.
|
Job 19:15 γείτονες οἰκίας θεράπαιναί τέ μου ἀλλογενὴς ἤμην ἐναντίον αὐτῶν
|
Job 19:16 I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.
|
Job 19:16 "I call to my servant, but he does not answer; I have to implore him with my mouth.
|
Job 19:16 θεράποντά μου ἐκάλεσα καὶ οὐχ ὑπήκουσεν στόμα δέ μου ἐδέετο
|
Job 19:17 My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children's sake of mine own body.
|
Job 19:17 "My breath is offensive to my wife, And I am loathsome to my own brothers.
|
Job 19:17 καὶ ἱκέτευον τὴν γυναῖκά μου προσεκαλούμην δὲ κολακεύων υἱοὺς παλλακίδων μου
|
Job 19:18 Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me.
|
Job 19:18 "Even young children despise me; I rise up and they speak against me.
|
Job 19:18 οἱ δὲ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνά με ἀπεποιήσαντο ὅταν ἀναστῶ κατ᾽ ἐμοῦ λαλοῦσιν
|
Job 19:19 All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.
|
Job 19:19 "All my associates abhor me, And those I love have turned against me.
|
Job 19:19 ἐβδελύξαντο δέ με οἱ εἰδότες με οὓς δὴ ἠγαπήκειν ἐπανέστησάν μοι
|
Job 19:20 My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.
|
Job 19:20 "My bone clings to my skin and my flesh, And I have escaped only by the skin of my teeth.
|
Job 19:20 ἐν δέρματί μου ἐσάπησαν αἱ σάρκες μου τὰ δὲ ὀστᾶ μου ἐν ὀδοῦσιν ἔχεται
|
Job 19:21 Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.
|
Job 19:21 "Pity me, pity me, O you my friends, For the hand of God has struck me.
|
Job 19:21 ἐλεήσατέ με ἐλεήσατέ με ὦ φίλοι χεὶρ γὰρ κυρίου ἡ ἁψαμένη μού ἐστιν
|
Job 19:22 Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
|
Job 19:22 "Why do you persecute me as God does, And are not satisfied with my flesh?
|
Job 19:22 διὰ τί δέ με διώκετε ὥσπερ καὶ ὁ κύριος ἀπὸ δὲ σαρκῶν μου οὐκ ἐμπίπλασθε
|
Job 19:23 Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!
|
Job 19:23 "Oh that my words were written! Oh that they were inscribed in a book!
|
Job 19:23 τίς γὰρ ἂν δῴη γραφῆναι τὰ ῥήματά μου τεθῆναι δὲ αὐτὰ ἐν βιβλίῳ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα
|
Job 19:24 That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!
|
Job 19:24 "That with an iron stylus and lead They were engraved in the rock forever!
|
Job 19:24 ἐν γραφείῳ σιδηρῷ καὶ μολίβῳ ἢ ἐν πέτραις ἐγγλυφῆναι
|
Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
|
Job 19:25 "As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.
|
Job 19:25 οἶδα γὰρ ὅτι ἀέναός ἐστιν ὁ ἐκλύειν με μέλλων ἐπὶ γῆς
|
Job 19:26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
|
Job 19:26 "Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I shall see God;
|
Job 19:26 ἀναστήσαι τὸ δέρμα μου τὸ ἀνατλῶν ταῦτα παρὰ γὰρ κυρίου ταῦτά μοι συνετελέσθη
|
Job 19:27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
|
Job 19:27 Whom I myself shall behold, And whom my eyes will see and not another. My heart faints within me!
|
Job 19:27 ἃ ἐγὼ ἐμαυτῷ συνεπίσταμαι ἃ ὁ ὀφθαλμός μου ἑόρακεν καὶ οὐκ ἄλλος πάντα δέ μοι συντετέλεσται ἐν κόλπῳ
|
Job 19:28 But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?
|
Job 19:28 "If you say, 'How shall we persecute him?' And 'What pretext for a case against him can we find?'
|
Job 19:28 εἰ δὲ καὶ ἐρεῖτε τί ἐροῦμεν ἔναντι αὐτοῦ καὶ ῥίζαν λόγου εὑρήσομεν ἐν αὐτῷ
|
Job 19:29 Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.
|
Job 19:29 "Then be afraid of the sword for yourselves, For wrath brings the punishment of the sword, So that you may know there is judgment."
|
Job 19:29 εὐλαβήθητε δὴ καὶ ὑμεῖς ἀπὸ ἐπικαλύμματος θυμὸς γὰρ ἐπ᾽ ἀνόμους ἐπελεύσεται καὶ τότε γνώσονται ποῦ ἐστιν αὐτῶν ἡ ὕλη

Job 20:1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

Job 20:1 ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Σωφαρ ὁ Μιναῖος λέγει
|
Job 20:2 Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste.
|
Job 20:2 "Therefore my disquieting thoughts make me respond, Even because of my inward agitation.
|
Job 20:2 οὐχ οὕτως ὑπελάμβανον ἀντερεῖν σε ταῦτα καὶ οὐχὶ συνίετε μᾶλλον ἢ καὶ ἐγώ
|
Job 20:3 I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causeth me to answer.

Job 20:3 "I listened to the reproof which insults me, And the spirit of my understanding makes me answer.

Job 20:3 παιδείαν ἐντροπῆς μου ἀκούσομαι καὶ πνεῦμα ἐκ τῆς συνέσεως ἀποκρίνεταί μοι

Job 20:4 Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,

Job 20:4 "Do you know this from of old, From the establishment of man on earth,
|
Job 20:4 μὴ ταῦτα ἔγνως ἀπὸ τοῦ ἔτι ἀφ᾽ οὗ ἐτέθη ἄνθρωπος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
|
Job 20:5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?
|
Job 20:5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the godless momentary?

Job 20:5 εὐφροσύνη γὰρ ἀσεβῶν πτῶμα ἐξαίσιον χαρμονὴ δὲ παρανόμων ἀπώλεια
|
Job 20:6 Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds;

Job 20:6 "Though his loftiness reaches the heavens, And his head touches the clouds,
|
Job 20:6 ἐὰν ἀναβῇ εἰς οὐρανὸν αὐτοῦ τὰ δῶρα ἡ δὲ θυσία αὐτοῦ νεφῶν ἅψηται
|
Job 20:7 Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?
|
Job 20:7 He perishes forever like his refuse; Those who have seen him will say, 'Where is he?'
|
Job 20:7 ὅταν γὰρ δοκῇ ἤδη κατεστηρίχθαι τότε εἰς τέλος ἀπολεῖται οἱ δὲ ἰδόντες αὐτὸν ἐροῦσιν ποῦ ἐστιν
|
Job 20:8 He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.
|
Job 20:8 "He flies away like a dream, and they cannot find him; Even like a vision of the night he is chased away.
|
Job 20:8 ὥσπερ ἐνύπνιον ἐκπετασθὲν οὐ μὴ εὑρεθῇ ἔπτη δὲ ὥσπερ φάσμα νυκτερινόν
|
Job 20:9 The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.
|
Job 20:9 "The eye which saw him sees him no longer, And his place no longer beholds him.
|
Job 20:9 ὀφθαλμὸς παρέβλεψεν καὶ οὐ προσθήσει καὶ οὐκέτι προσνοήσει αὐτὸν ὁ τόπος αὐτοῦ
|
Job 20:10 His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
|
Job 20:10 "His sons favor the poor, And his hands give back his wealth.
|
Job 20:10 τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ ὀλέσαισαν ἥττονες αἱ δὲ χεῖρες αὐτοῦ πυρσεύσαισαν ὀδύνας
|
Job 20:11 His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.
|
Job 20:11 "His bones are full of his youthful vigor, But it lies down with him in the dust.

Job 20:11 ὀστᾶ αὐτοῦ ἐνεπλήσθησαν νεότητος αὐτοῦ καὶ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ χώματος κοιμηθήσεται
|
Job 20:12 Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue;
|
Job 20:12 "Though evil is sweet in his mouth And he hides it under his tongue,
|
Job 20:12 ἐὰν γλυκανθῇ ἐν στόματι αὐτοῦ κακία κρύψει αὐτὴν ὑπὸ τὴν γλῶσσαν αὐτοῦ
|
Job 20:13 Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:

Job 20:13 Though he desires it and will not let it go, But holds it in his mouth,
|
Job 20:13 οὐ φείσεται αὐτῆς καὶ οὐκ ἐγκαταλείψει αὐτὴν καὶ συνέξει αὐτὴν ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ λάρυγγος αὐτοῦ
|
Job 20:14 Yet his meat in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.
|
Job 20:14 Yet his food in his stomach is changed To the venom of cobras within him.
|
Job 20:14 καὶ οὐ μὴ δυνηθῇ βοηθῆσαι ἑαυτῷ χολὴ ἀσπίδος ἐν γαστρὶ αὐτοῦ
|
Job 20:15 He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.
|
Job 20:15 "He swallows riches, But will vomit them up; God will expel them from his belly.
|
Job 20:15 πλοῦτος ἀδίκως συναγόμενος ἐξεμεσθήσεται ἐξ οἰκίας αὐτοῦ ἐξελκύσει αὐτὸν ἄγγελος
|
Job 20:16 He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper's tongue shall slay him.
|
Job 20:16 "He sucks the poison of cobras; The viper's tongue slays him.
|
Job 20:16 θυμὸν δὲ δρακόντων θηλάσειεν ἀνέλοι δὲ αὐτὸν γλῶσσα ὄφεως
|
Job 20:17 He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter.
|
Job 20:17 "He does not look at the streams, The rivers flowing with honey and curds.
|
Job 20:17 μὴ ἴδοι ἄμελξιν νομάδων μηδὲ νομὰς μέλιτος καὶ βουτύρου
|
Job 20:18 That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.
|
Job 20:18 "He returns what he has attained And cannot swallow it; As to the riches of his trading, He cannot even enjoy them.
|
Job 20:18 εἰς κενὰ καὶ μάταια ἐκοπίασεν πλοῦτον ἐξ οὗ οὐ γεύσεται ὥσπερ στρίφνος ἀμάσητος ἀκατάποτος
|
Job 20:19 Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not;
|
Job 20:19 "For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor; He has seized a house which he has not built.
|
Job 20:19 πολλῶν γὰρ ἀδυνάτων οἴκους ἔθλασεν δίαιταν δὲ ἥρπασεν καὶ οὐκ ἔστησεν
|
Job 20:20 Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired.
|
Job 20:20 "Because he knew no quiet within him, He does not retain anything he desires.
|
Job 20:20 οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῦ σωτηρία τοῖς ὑπάρχουσιν ἐν ἐπιθυμίᾳ αὐτοῦ οὐ σωθήσεται
|
Job 20:21 There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.
|
Job 20:21 "Nothing remains for him to devour, Therefore his prosperity does not endure.
|
Job 20:21 οὐκ ἔστιν ὑπόλειμμα τοῖς βρώμασιν αὐτοῦ διὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ἀνθήσει αὐτοῦ τὰ ἀγαθά
|
Job 20:22 In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.
|
Job 20:22 "In the fullness of his plenty he will be cramped; The hand of everyone who suffers will come against him.
|
Job 20:22 ὅταν δὲ δοκῇ ἤδη πεπληρῶσθαι θλιβήσεται πᾶσα δὲ ἀνάγκη ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν ἐπελεύσεται
|
Job 20:23 When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.
|
Job 20:23 "When he fills his belly, God will send His fierce anger on him And will rain it on him while he is eating.
|
Job 20:23 εἴ πως πληρώσαι γαστέρα αὐτοῦ ἐπαποστείλαι ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν θυμὸν ὀργῆς νίψαι ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν ὀδύνας
|
Job 20:24 He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through.
|
Job 20:24 "He may flee from the iron weapon, But the bronze bow will pierce him.
|
Job 20:24 καὶ οὐ μὴ σωθῇ ἐκ χειρὸς σιδήρου τρώσαι αὐτὸν τόξον χάλκειον
|
Job 20:25 It is drawn, and cometh out of the body; yea, the glittering sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon him.
|
Job 20:25 "It is drawn forth and comes out of his back, Even the glittering point from his gall. Terrors come upon him,
|
Job 20:25 διεξέλθοι δὲ διὰ σώματος αὐτοῦ βέλος ἀστραπαὶ δὲ ἐν διαίταις αὐτοῦ περιπατήσαισαν ἐπ᾽ αὐτῷ φόβοι
|
Job 20:26 All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.
|
Job 20:26 Complete darkness is held in reserve for his treasures, And unfanned fire will devour him; It will consume the survivor in his tent.
|
Job 20:26 πᾶν δὲ σκότος αὐτῷ ὑπομείναι κατέδεται αὐτὸν πῦρ ἄκαυστον κακώσαι δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπήλυτος τὸν οἶκον
|
Job 20:27 The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him.
|
Job 20:27 "The heavens will reveal his iniquity, And the earth will rise up against him.
|
Job 20:27 ἀνακαλύψαι δὲ αὐτοῦ ὁ οὐρανὸς τὰς ἀνομίας γῆ δὲ ἐπανασταίη αὐτῷ
|
Job 20:28 The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.
|
Job 20:28 "The increase of his house will depart; His possessions will flow away in the day of His anger.
|
Job 20:28 ἑλκύσαι τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ ἀπώλεια εἰς τέλος ἡμέρα ὀργῆς ἐπέλθοι αὐτῷ
|
Job 20:29 This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed unto him by God.
|
Job 20:29 "This is the wicked man's portion from God, Even the heritage decreed to him by God."
|
Job 20:29 αὕτη ἡ μερὶς ἀνθρώπου ἀσεβοῦς παρὰ κυρίου καὶ κτῆμα ὑπαρχόντων αὐτῷ παρὰ τοῦ ἐπισκόπου
