Job 21:1 But Job answered and said,

|
Job 21:1 ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ιωβ λέγει
|
Job 21:2 Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.
|
Job 21:2 "Listen carefully to my speech, And let this be your way of consolation.
|
Job 21:2 ἀκούσατε ἀκούσατέ μου τῶν λόγων ἵνα μὴ ᾖ μοι παρ᾽ ὑμῶν αὕτη ἡ παράκλησις
|
Job 21:3 Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.
|
Job 21:3 "Bear with me that I may speak; Then after I have spoken, you may mock.
|
Job 21:3 ἄρατέ με ἐγὼ δὲ λαλήσω εἶτ᾽ οὐ καταγελάσετέ μου
|
Job 21:4 As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?
|
Job 21:4 "As for me, is my complaint to man? And why should I not be impatient?
|
Job 21:4 τί γάρ μὴ ἀνθρώπου μου ἡ ἔλεγξις ἢ διὰ τί οὐ θυμωθήσομαι
|
Job 21:5 Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth.
|
Job 21:5 "Look at me, and be astonished, And put your hand over your mouth.
|
Job 21:5 εἰσβλέψαντες εἰς ἐμὲ θαυμάσατε χεῖρα θέντες ἐπὶ σιαγόνι
|
Job 21:6 Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.
|
Job 21:6 "Even when I remember, I am disturbed, And horror takes hold of my flesh.
|
Job 21:6 ἐάν τε γὰρ μνησθῶ ἐσπούδακα ἔχουσιν δέ μου τὰς σάρκας ὀδύναι
|
Job 21:7 Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?
|
Job 21:7 "Why do the wicked still live, Continue on, also become very powerful?
|
Job 21:7 διὰ τί ἀσεβεῖς ζῶσιν πεπαλαίωνται δὲ καὶ ἐν πλούτῳ
|
Job 21:8 Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.
|
Job 21:8 "Their descendants are established with them in their sight, And their offspring before their eyes,
|
Job 21:8 ὁ σπόρος αὐτῶν κατὰ ψυχήν τὰ δὲ τέκνα αὐτῶν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς
|
Job 21:9 Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.
|

Job 21:9 οἱ οἶκοι αὐτῶν εὐθηνοῦσιν φόβος δὲ οὐδαμοῦ μάστιξ δὲ παρὰ κυρίου οὐκ ἔστιν ἐπ᾽ αὐτοῖς
|
Job 21:10 Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.
|
Job 21:10 "His ox mates without fail; His cow calves and does not abort.
|
Job 21:10 ἡ βοῦς αὐτῶν οὐκ ὠμοτόκησεν διεσώθη δὲ αὐτῶν ἐν γαστρὶ ἔχουσα καὶ οὐκ ἔσφαλεν
|
Job 21:11 They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.

Job 21:11 μένουσιν δὲ ὡς πρόβατα αἰώνια τὰ δὲ παιδία αὐτῶν προσπαίζουσιν

Job 21:12 They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.

|
Job 21:12 ἀναλαβόντες ψαλτήριον καὶ κιθάραν καὶ εὐφραίνονται φωνῇ ψαλμοῦ
|
Job 21:13 They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.
|
Job 21:13 "They spend their days in prosperity, And suddenly they go down to Sheol.
|
Job 21:13 συνετέλεσαν δὲ ἐν ἀγαθοῖς τὸν βίον αὐτῶν ἐν δὲ ἀναπαύσει ᾅδου ἐκοιμήθησαν
|
Job 21:14 Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
|
Job 21:14 "They say to God, 'Depart from us! We do not even desire the knowledge of Your ways.
|
Job 21:14 λέγει δὲ κυρίῳ ἀπόστα ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ ὁδούς σου εἰδέναι οὐ βούλομαι
|
Job 21:15 What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?
|
Job 21:15 'Who is the Almighty, that we should serve Him, And what would we gain if we entreat Him?'
|
Job 21:15 τί ἱκανός ὅτι δουλεύσομεν αὐτῷ καὶ τίς ὠφέλεια ὅτι ἀπαντήσομεν αὐτῷ
|
Job 21:16 Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
|
Job 21:16 "Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand; The counsel of the wicked is far from me.
|
Job 21:16 ἐν χερσὶν γὰρ ἦν αὐτῶν τὰ ἀγαθά ἔργα δὲ ἀσεβῶν οὐκ ἐφορᾷ
|
Job 21:17 How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.
|
Job 21:17 "How often is the lamp of the wicked put out, Or does their calamity fall on them? Does God apportion destruction in His anger?
|
Job 21:17 οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ καὶ ἀσεβῶν λύχνος σβεσθήσεται ἐπελεύσεται δὲ αὐτοῖς ἡ καταστροφή ὠδῖνες δὲ αὐτοὺς ἕξουσιν ἀπὸ ὀργῆς
|
Job 21:18 They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.
|
Job 21:18 "Are they as straw before the wind, And like chaff which the storm carries away?
|
Job 21:18 ἔσονται δὲ ὥσπερ ἄχυρα πρὸ ἀνέμου ἢ ὥσπερ κονιορτός ὃν ὑφείλατο λαῖλαψ
|
Job 21:19 God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.
|
Job 21:19 "You say, 'God stores away a man's iniquity for his sons.' Let God repay him so that he may know it.
|
Job 21:19 ἐκλίποι υἱοὺς τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτοῦ ἀνταποδώσει πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ γνώσεται
|
Job 21:20 His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
|
Job 21:20 "Let his own eyes see his decay, And let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
|
Job 21:20 ἴδοισαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ σφαγήν ἀπὸ δὲ κυρίου μὴ διασωθείη
|
Job 21:21 For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?
|
Job 21:21 "For what does he care for his household after him, When the number of his months is cut off?
|
Job 21:21 ὅτι τί θέλημα αὐτοῦ ἐν οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ μετ᾽ αὐτόν καὶ ἀριθμοὶ μηνῶν αὐτοῦ διῃρέθησαν
|
Job 21:22 Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.
|
Job 21:22 "Can anyone teach God knowledge, In that He judges those on high?
|
Job 21:22 πότερον οὐχὶ ὁ κύριός ἐστιν ὁ διδάσκων σύνεσιν καὶ ἐπιστήμην αὐτὸς δὲ φόνους διακρινεῖ
|
Job 21:23 One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
|
Job 21:23 "One dies in his full strength, Being wholly at ease and satisfied;
|
Job 21:23 οὗτος ἀποθανεῖται ἐν κράτει ἁπλοσύνης αὐτοῦ ὅλος δὲ εὐπαθῶν καὶ εὐθηνῶν
|
Job 21:24 His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.
|
Job 21:24 His sides are filled out with fat, And the marrow of his bones is moist,
|
Job 21:24 τὰ δὲ ἔγκατα αὐτοῦ πλήρη στέατος μυελὸς δὲ αὐτοῦ διαχεῖται
|
Job 21:25 And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.
|
Job 21:25 While another dies with a bitter soul, Never even tasting anything good.
|
Job 21:25 ὁ δὲ τελευτᾷ ὑπὸ πικρίας ψυχῆς οὐ φαγὼν οὐδὲν ἀγαθόν
|
Job 21:26 They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.
|
Job 21:26 "Together they lie down in the dust, And worms cover them.
|
Job 21:26 ὁμοθυμαδὸν δὲ ἐπὶ γῆς κοιμῶνται σαπρία δὲ αὐτοὺς ἐκάλυψεν
|
Job 21:27 Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.
|
Job 21:27 "Behold, I know your thoughts, And the plans by which you would wrong me.
|
Job 21:27 ὥστε οἶδα ὑμᾶς ὅτι τόλμῃ ἐπίκεισθέ μοι
|
Job 21:28 For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?
|
Job 21:28 "For you say, 'Where is the house of the nobleman, And where is the tent, the dwelling places of the wicked?'
|
Job 21:28 ὅτι ἐρεῖτε ποῦ ἐστιν οἶκος ἄρχοντος καὶ ποῦ ἐστιν ἡ σκέπη τῶν σκηνωμάτων τῶν ἀσεβῶν
|
Job 21:29 Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,
|
Job 21:29 "Have you not asked wayfaring men, And do you not recognize their witness?
|
Job 21:29 ἐρωτήσατε παραπορευομένους ὁδόν καὶ τὰ σημεῖα αὐτῶν οὐκ ἀπαλλοτριώσετε
|
Job 21:30 That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.
|
Job 21:30 "For the wicked is reserved for the day of calamity; They will be led forth at the day of fury.
|
Job 21:30 ὅτι εἰς ἡμέραν ἀπωλείας κουφίζεται ὁ πονηρός εἰς ἡμέραν ὀργῆς αὐτοῦ ἀπαχθήσονται
|
Job 21:31 Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?
|
Job 21:31 "Who will confront him with his actions, And who will repay him for what he has done?
|
Job 21:31 τίς ἀπαγγελεῖ ἐπὶ προσώπου αὐτοῦ τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ αὐτὸς ἐποίησεν τίς ἀνταποδώσει αὐτῷ
|
Job 21:32 Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.
|
Job 21:32 "While he is carried to the grave, Men will keep watch over his tomb.
|
Job 21:32 καὶ αὐτὸς εἰς τάφους ἀπηνέχθη καὶ ἐπὶ σορῷ ἠγρύπνησεν
|
Job 21:33 The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.
|
Job 21:33 "The clods of the valley will gently cover him; Moreover, all men will follow after him, While countless ones go before him.
|
Job 21:33 ἐγλυκάνθησαν αὐτῷ χάλικες χειμάρρου καὶ ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ πᾶς ἄνθρωπος ἀπελεύσεται καὶ ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ ἀναρίθμητοι
|
Job 21:34 How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?
|
Job 21:34 "How then will you vainly comfort me, For your answers remain full of falsehood?"
|
Job 21:34 πῶς δὲ παρακαλεῖτέ με κενά τὸ δὲ ἐμὲ καταπαύσασθαι ἀφ᾽ ὑμῶν οὐδέν
|
Job 22:1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

Job 22:1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite responded,
|
Job 22:1 ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ελιφας ὁ Θαιμανίτης λέγει
|
Job 22:2 Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
|
Job 22:2 "Can a vigorous man be of use to God, Or a wise man be useful to himself?
|
Job 22:2 πότερον οὐχὶ ὁ κύριός ἐστιν ὁ διδάσκων σύνεσιν καὶ ἐπιστήμην
|
Job 22:3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
|
Job 22:3 "Is there any pleasure to the Almighty if you are righteous, Or profit if you make your ways perfect?
|
Job 22:3 τί γὰρ μέλει τῷ κυρίῳ ἐὰν σὺ ἦσθα τοῖς ἔργοις ἄμεμπτος ἢ ὠφέλεια ὅτι ἁπλώσῃς τὴν ὁδόν σου
|
Job 22:4 Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
|
Job 22:4 "Is it because of your reverence that He reproves you, That He enters into judgment against you?
|
Job 22:4 ἦ λόγον σου ποιούμενος ἐλέγξει σε καὶ συνεισελεύσεταί σοι εἰς κρίσιν
|
Job 22:5 Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
|
Job 22:5 "Is not your wickedness great, And your iniquities without end?
|
Job 22:5 πότερον οὐχ ἡ κακία σού ἐστιν πολλή ἀναρίθμητοι δέ σού εἰσιν αἱ ἁμαρτίαι
|
Job 22:6 For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
|
Job 22:6 "For you have taken pledges of your brothers without cause, And stripped men naked.
|
Job 22:6 ἠνεχύραζες δὲ τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου διὰ κενῆς ἀμφίασιν δὲ γυμνῶν ἀφείλου
|
Job 22:7 Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
|
Job 22:7 "To the weary you have given no water to drink, And from the hungry you have withheld bread.
|
Job 22:7 οὐδὲ ὕδωρ διψῶντας ἐπότισας ἀλλὰ πεινώντων ἐστέρησας ψωμόν
|
Job 22:8 But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
|
Job 22:8 "But the earth belongs to the mighty man, And the honorable man dwells in it.
|
Job 22:8 ἐθαύμασας δέ τινων πρόσωπον ᾤκισας δὲ τοὺς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
|
Job 22:9 Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
|
Job 22:9 "You have sent widows away empty, And the strength of the orphans has been crushed.
|
Job 22:9 χήρας δὲ ἐξαπέστειλας κενάς ὀρφανοὺς δὲ ἐκάκωσας
|
Job 22:10 Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
|
Job 22:10 "Therefore snares surround you, And sudden dread terrifies you,
|
Job 22:10 τοιγαροῦν ἐκύκλωσάν σε παγίδες καὶ ἐσπούδασέν σε πόλεμος ἐξαίσιος
|
Job 22:11 Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
|
Job 22:11 Or darkness, so that you cannot see, And an abundance of water covers you.
|
Job 22:11 τὸ φῶς σοι σκότος ἀπέβη κοιμηθέντα δὲ ὕδωρ σε ἐκάλυψεν
|
Job 22:12 Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
|
Job 22:12 "Is not God in the height of heaven? Look also at the distant stars, how high they are!
|
Job 22:12 μὴ οὐχὶ ὁ τὰ ὑψηλὰ ναίων ἐφορᾷ τοὺς δὲ ὕβρει φερομένους ἐταπείνωσεν
|
Job 22:13 And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
|
Job 22:13 "You say, 'What does God know? Can He judge through the thick darkness?
|
Job 22:13 καὶ εἶπας τί ἔγνω ὁ ἰσχυρός ἦ κατὰ τοῦ γνόφου κρινεῖ
|
Job 22:14 Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
|
Job 22:14 'Clouds are a hiding place for Him, so that He cannot see; And He walks on the vault of heaven.'
|
Job 22:14 νέφη ἀποκρυφὴ αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐχ ὁραθήσεται καὶ γῦρον οὐρανοῦ διαπορεύσεται
|
Job 22:15 Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
|
Job 22:15 "Will you keep to the ancient path Which wicked men have trod,
|
Job 22:15 μὴ τρίβον αἰώνιον φυλάξεις ἣν ἐπάτησαν ἄνδρες ἄδικοι
|
Job 22:16 Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
|
Job 22:16 Who were snatched away before their time, Whose foundations were washed away by a river?
|
Job 22:16 οἳ συνελήμφθησαν ἄωροι ποταμὸς ἐπιρρέων οἱ θεμέλιοι αὐτῶν
|
Job 22:17 Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
|
Job 22:17 "They said to God, 'Depart from us!' And 'What can the Almighty do to them?'
|
Job 22:17 οἱ λέγοντες κύριος τί ποιήσει ἡμῖν ἢ τί ἐπάξεται ἡμῖν ὁ παντοκράτωρ
|
Job 22:18 Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
|
Job 22:18 "Yet He filled their houses with good things; But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
|
Job 22:18 ὃς δὲ ἐνέπλησεν τοὺς οἴκους αὐτῶν ἀγαθῶν βουλὴ δὲ ἀσεβῶν πόρρω ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ
|
Job 22:19 The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
|
Job 22:19 "The righteous see and are glad, And the innocent mock them,
|
Job 22:19 ἰδόντες δίκαιοι ἐγέλασαν ἄμεμπτος δὲ ἐμυκτήρισεν
|
Job 22:20 Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
|
Job 22:20 Saying, 'Truly our adversaries are cut off, And their abundance the fire has consumed.'
|
Job 22:20 εἰ μὴ ἠφανίσθη ἡ ὑπόστασις αὐτῶν καὶ τὸ κατάλειμμα αὐτῶν καταφάγεται πῦρ
|
Job 22:21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
|
Job 22:21 "Yield now and be at peace with Him; Thereby good will come to you.
|
Job 22:21 γενοῦ δὴ σκληρός ἐὰν ὑπομείνῃς εἶτ᾽ ὁ καρπός σου ἔσται ἐν ἀγαθοῖς
|
Job 22:22 Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
|
Job 22:22 "Please receive instruction from His mouth And establish His words in your heart.
|
Job 22:22 ἔκλαβε δὲ ἐκ στόματος αὐτοῦ ἐξηγορίαν καὶ ἀνάλαβε τὰ ῥήματα αὐτοῦ ἐν καρδίᾳ σου
|
Job 22:23 If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
|
Job 22:23 "If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored; If you remove unrighteousness far from your tent,
|
Job 22:23 ἐὰν δὲ ἐπιστραφῇς καὶ ταπεινώσῃς σεαυτὸν ἔναντι κυρίου πόρρω ἐποίησας ἀπὸ διαίτης σου τὸ ἄδικον
|
Job 22:24 Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
|
Job 22:24 And place your gold in the dust, And the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks,
|
Job 22:24 θήσῃ ἐπὶ χώματι ἐν πέτρᾳ καὶ ὡς πέτρᾳ χειμάρρους Ωφιρ
|
Job 22:25 Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
|
Job 22:25 Then the Almighty will be your gold And choice silver to you.
|
Job 22:25 ἔσται οὖν σου ὁ παντοκράτωρ βοηθὸς ἀπὸ ἐχθρῶν καθαρὸν δὲ ἀποδώσει σε ὥσπερ ἀργύριον πεπυρωμένον
|
Job 22:26 For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
|
Job 22:26 "For then you will delight in the Almighty And lift up your face to God.
|
Job 22:26 εἶτα παρρησιασθήσῃ ἔναντι κυρίου ἀναβλέψας εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν ἱλαρῶς
|
Job 22:27 Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
|
Job 22:27 "You will pray to Him, and He will hear you; And you will pay your vows.
|
Job 22:27 εὐξαμένου δέ σου πρὸς αὐτὸν εἰσακούσεταί σου δώσει δέ σοι ἀποδοῦναι τὰς εὐχάς
|
Job 22:28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
|
Job 22:28 "You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; And light will shine on your ways.
|
Job 22:28 ἀποκαταστήσει δέ σοι δίαιταν δικαιοσύνης ἐπὶ δὲ ὁδοῖς σου ἔσται φέγγος
|
Job 22:29 When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
|
Job 22:29 "When you are cast down, you will speak with confidence, And the humble person He will save.
|
Job 22:29 ὅτι ἐταπείνωσεν αὐτόν καὶ ἐρεῖς ὑπερηφανεύσατο καὶ κύφοντα ὀφθαλμοῖς σώσει
|
Job 22:30 He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
|
Job 22:30 "He will deliver one who is not innocent, And he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands."
|
Job 22:30 ῥύσεται ἀθῷον καὶ διασώθητι ἐν καθαραῖς χερσίν σου
|
Job 23:1 Then Job answered and said,

|
Job 23:1 ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ιωβ λέγει
|
Job 23:2 Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.
|
Job 23:2 "Even today my complaint is rebellion; His hand is heavy despite my groaning.
|
Job 23:2 καὶ δὴ οἶδα ὅτι ἐκ χειρός μου ἡ ἔλεγξίς ἐστιν καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ βαρεῖα γέγονεν ἐπ᾽ ἐμῷ στεναγμῷ
|
Job 23:3 Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!
|
Job 23:3 "Oh that I knew where I might find Him, That I might come to His seat!
|
Job 23:3 τίς δ᾽ ἄρα γνοίη ὅτι εὕροιμι αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλθοιμι εἰς τέλος
|
Job 23:4 I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
|
Job 23:4 "I would present my case before Him And fill my mouth with arguments.
|
Job 23:4 εἴποιμι δὲ ἐμαυτοῦ κρίμα τὸ δὲ στόμα μου ἐμπλήσαιμι ἐλέγχων
|
Job 23:5 I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.
|
Job 23:5 "I would learn the words which He would answer, And perceive what He would say to me.

Job 23:6 Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.
