Day 281 - Matthew 18-20
Mat 18:1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? (kjv) Mat 18:1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, "Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" Mat 18:1 ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ὥρᾳ προσῆλθον οἱ μαθηταὶ τῶ ἰησοῦ λέγοντες, τίς ἄρα μείζων ἐστὶν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν;
Mat 18:2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, (kjv) Mat 18:2 And He called a child to Himself and set him before them, Mat 18:2 καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος παιδίον ἔστησεν αὐτὸ ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν
Mat 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. (kjv) Mat 18:3 and said, "Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 18:4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (kjv) Mat 18:4 Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 18:5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. (kjv) Mat 18:5 And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me; Mat 18:5 καὶ ὃς ἐὰν δέξηται ἓν παιδίον τοιοῦτο ἐπὶ τῶ ὀνόματί μου, ἐμὲ δέχεται.
Mat 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. (kjv) Mat 18:6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
Mat 18:7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! (kjv) Mat 18:7 "Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!
Mat 18:8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. (kjv) Mat 18:8 "If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be cast into the eternal fire.
Mat 18:9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. (kjv) Mat 18:9 If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be cast into the fiery hell.
Mat 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. (kjv) Mat 18:10 "See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven.
Mat 18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. (kjv) Mat 18:11 ["For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.] Mat 18:11
Mat 18:12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? (kjv) Mat 18:12 "What do you think? If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying? Mat 18:12 τί ὑμῖν δοκεῖ; ἐὰν γένηταί τινι ἀνθρώπῳ ἑκατὸν πρόβατα καὶ πλανηθῇ ἓν ἐξ αὐτῶν, οὐχὶ ἀφήσει τὰ ἐνενήκοντα ἐννέα ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη καὶ πορευθεὶς ζητεῖ τὸ πλανώμενον;
Mat 18:13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. (kjv) Mat 18:13 If it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray.
Mat 18:14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. (kjv) Mat 18:14 So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish.
Mat 18:15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. (kjv) Mat 18:15 "If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.
Mat 18:16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. (kjv) Mat 18:16 But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed.
Mat 18:17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. (kjv) Mat 18:17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
Mat 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. (kjv) Mat 18:18 Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.
Mat 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. (kjv) Mat 18:19 "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.
Mat 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (kjv) Mat 18:20 For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst."
Mat 18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? (kjv) Mat 18:21 Then Peter came and said to Him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" Mat 18:21 τότε προσελθὼν ὁ πέτρος εἶπεν αὐτῶ, κύριε, ποσάκις ἁμαρτήσει εἰς ἐμὲ ὁ ἀδελφός μου καὶ ἀφήσω αὐτῶ; ἕως ἑπτάκις;
Mat 18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. (kjv) Mat 18:22 Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
Mat 18:23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. (kjv) Mat 18:23 "For this reason the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his slaves.
Mat 18:24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. (kjv) Mat 18:24 When he had begun to settle them, one who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him.
Mat 18:25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. (kjv) Mat 18:25 But since he did not have the means to repay, his lord commanded him to be sold, along with his wife and children and all that he had, and repayment to be made.
Mat 18:26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. (kjv) Mat 18:26 So the slave fell to the ground and prostrated himself before him, saying, 'Have patience with me and I will repay you everything.'
Mat 18:27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. (kjv) Mat 18:27 And the lord of that slave felt compassion and released him and forgave him the debt.
Mat 18:28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. (kjv) Mat 18:28 But that slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him a hundred denarii; and he seized him and began to choke him, saying, 'Pay back what you owe.'
Mat 18:29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. (kjv) Mat 18:29 So his fellow slave fell to the ground and began to plead with him, saying, 'Have patience with me and I will repay you.'
Mat 18:30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. (kjv) Mat 18:30 But he was unwilling and went and threw him in prison until he should pay back what was owed.
Mat 18:31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. (kjv) Mat 18:31 So when his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were deeply grieved and came and reported to their lord all that had happened.
Mat 18:32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: (kjv) Mat 18:32 Then summoning him, his lord said to him, 'You wicked slave, I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me.
Mat 18:33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? (kjv) Mat 18:33 Should you not also have had mercy on your fellow slave, in the same way that I had mercy on you?' Mat 18:33 οὐκ ἔδει καὶ σὲ ἐλεῆσαι τὸν σύνδουλόν σου, ὡς κἀγὼ σὲ ἠλέησα;
Mat 18:34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. (kjv) Mat 18:34 And his lord, moved with anger, handed him over to the torturers until he should repay all that was owed him.
Mat 18:35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.(kjv) Mat 18:35 My heavenly Father will also do the same to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your heart."
Mat 19:1 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; (kjv) Mat 19:1 When Jesus had finished these words, He departed from Galilee and came into the region of Judea beyond the Jordan; Mat 19:1 καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐτέλεσεν ὁ ἰησοῦς τοὺς λόγους τούτους, μετῆρεν ἀπὸ τῆς γαλιλαίας καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς τὰ ὅρια τῆς ἰουδαίας πέραν τοῦ ἰορδάνου.
Mat 19:2 And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. (kjv) Mat 19:2 and large crowds followed Him, and He healed them there.
Mat 19:3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? (kjv) Mat 19:3 Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?" Mat 19:3 καὶ προσῆλθον αὐτῶ φαρισαῖοι πειράζοντες αὐτὸν καὶ λέγοντες, εἰ ἔξεστιν ἀνθρώπῳ ἀπολῦσαι τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ κατὰ πᾶσαν αἰτίαν;
Mat 19:4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, (kjv) Mat 19:4 And He answered and said, "Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, Mat 19:4 ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν, οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε ὅτι ὁ κτίσας ἀπ᾽ ἀρχῆς ἄρσεν καὶ θῆλυ ἐποίησεν αὐτούς;
Mat 19:5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? (kjv) Mat 19:5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?
Mat 19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. (kjv) Mat 19:6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."
Mat 19:7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? (kjv) Mat 19:7 They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give her a certificate of divorce and send her away?" Mat 19:7 λέγουσιν αὐτῶ, τί οὗν μωϊσῆς ἐνετείλατο δοῦναι βιβλίον ἀποστασίου καὶ ἀπολῦσαι [αὐτήν];
Mat 19:8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. (kjv) Mat 19:8 He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way.
Mat 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. (kjv) Mat 19:9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."
Mat 19:10 His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. (kjv) Mat 19:10 The disciples said to Him, "If the relationship of the man with his wife is like this, it is better not to marry."
Mat 19:11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. (kjv) Mat 19:11 But He said to them, "Not all men can accept this statement, but only those to whom it has been given.
Mat 19 12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it. (kjv) Mat 19:12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept this, let him accept it."
Mat 19:13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. (kjv) Mat 19:13 Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them.
Mat 19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. (kjv) Mat 19:14 But Jesus said, "Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Mat 19:15 And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence. (kjv) Mat 19:15 After laying His hands on them, He departed from there.
Mat 19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? (kjv) Mat 19:16 And someone came to Him and said, "Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?" Mat 19:16 καὶ ἰδοὺ εἷς προσελθὼν αὐτῶ εἶπεν, διδάσκαλε, τί ἀγαθὸν ποιήσω ἵνα σχῶ ζωὴν αἰώνιον;
Mat 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. (kjv) Mat 19:17 And He said to him, "Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments."
Mat 19:18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, (kjv) Mat 19:18 Then he said to Him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; Mat 19:18 λέγει αὐτῶ, ποίας; ὁ δὲ ἰησοῦς εἶπεν, τὸ οὐ φονεύσεις, οὐ μοιχεύσεις, οὐ κλέψεις, οὐ ψευδομαρτυρήσεις,
Mat 19:19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (kjv) Mat 19:19 Honor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Mat 19:20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? (kjv) Mat 19:20 The young man said to Him, "All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?" Mat 19:20 λέγει αὐτῶ ὁ νεανίσκος, πάντα ταῦτα ἐφύλαξα· τί ἔτι ὑστερῶ;
Mat 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. (kjv) Mat 19:21 Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."
Mat 19:22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. (kjv) Mat 19:22 But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.

(kjv) Mat 19:23 And Jesus said to His disciples, "Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 19:24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. (kjv) Mat 19:24 Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Mat 19:27 τότε ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ πέτρος εἶπεν αὐτῶ, ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ἀφήκαμεν πάντα καὶ ἠκολουθήσαμέν σοι· τί ἄρα ἔσται ἡμῖν;
Mat 19:28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (kjv) Mat 19:28 And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (kjv) Mat 20:1 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.

Mat 20:4 And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. (kjv) Mat 20:4 and to those he said, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you. 'And so they went.
Mat 20:5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. (kjv) Mat 20:5 Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did the same thing.
Mat 20:6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? Mat 20:7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. (kjv) Mat 20:7 They said to him, 'Because no one hired us.' He said to them, 'You go into the vineyard too.'
Mat 20:8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. (kjv) Mat 20:8 "When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last group to the first.'
Mat 20:9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. (kjv) Mat 20:9 When those hired about the eleventh hour came, each one received a denarius.

(kjv) Mat 20:12 saying, 'These last men have worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the scorching heat of the day.'
Mat 20:13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny? (kjv) Mat 20:13 But he answered and said to one of them, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius? Mat 20:13 ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς ἑνὶ αὐτῶν εἶπεν, ἑταῖρε, οὐκ ἀδικῶ σε· οὐχὶ δηναρίου συνεφώνησάς μοι;
Mat 20:14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee. (kjv) Mat 20:14 Take what is yours and go, but I wish to give to this last man the same as to you.
Mat 20:15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good? (kjv) Mat 20:15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with what is my own? Or is your eye envious because I am generous?' Mat 20:15 [ἢ] οὐκ ἔξεστίν μοι ὃ θέλω ποιῆσαι ἐν τοῖς ἐμοῖς; ἢ ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου πονηρός ἐστιν ὅτι ἐγὼ ἀγαθός εἰμι;
Mat 20:16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen. (kjv) Mat 20:16 So the last shall be first, and the first last."
