Day 282 - Matthew 21-22
Mat 21:1 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, (kjv) Mat 21:1 When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, Mat 21:1 καὶ ὅτε ἤγγισαν εἰς ἱεροσόλυμα καὶ ἦλθον εἰς βηθφαγὴ εἰς τὸ ὄρος τῶν ἐλαιῶν, τότε ἰησοῦς ἀπέστειλεν δύο μαθητὰς
Mat 21:2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. (kjv) Mat 21:2 saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. Mat 21:2 λέγων αὐτοῖς, πορεύεσθε εἰς τὴν κώμην τὴν κατέναντι ὑμῶν, καὶ εὐθέως εὑρήσετε ὄνον δεδεμένην καὶ πῶλον μετ᾽ αὐτῆς· λύσαντες ἀγάγετέ μοι.
Mat 21:3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them. (kjv) Mat 21:3 If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord has need of them,' and immediately he will send them." Mat 21:3 καὶ ἐάν τις ὑμῖν εἴπῃ τι, ἐρεῖτε ὅτι ὁ κύριος αὐτῶν χρείαν ἔχει· εὐθὺς δὲ ἀποστελεῖ αὐτούς.
Mat 21:4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, (kjv) Mat 21:4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: Mat 21:4 τοῦτο δὲ γέγονεν ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος,
Mat 21:5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. (kjv) Mat 21:5 "Say to the daughter of Zion, 'Behold your King is coming to you, Gentle, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.'" Mat 21:5 εἴπατε τῇ θυγατρὶ σιών, ἰδοὺ ὁ βασιλεύς σου ἔρχεταί σοι, πραῢς καὶ ἐπιβεβηκὼς ἐπὶ ὄνον, καὶ ἐπὶ πῶλον υἱὸν ὑποζυγίου.
Mat 21:6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, (kjv) Mat 21:6 The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, Mat 21:6 πορευθέντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ καὶ ποιήσαντες καθὼς συνέταξεν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς
Mat 21:7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. (kjv) Mat 21:7 and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on the coats. Mat 21:7 ἤγαγον τὴν ὄνον καὶ τὸν πῶλον, καὶ ἐπέθηκαν ἐπ᾽ αὐτῶν τὰ ἱμάτια, καὶ ἐπεκάθισεν ἐπάνω αὐτῶν.
Mat 21:8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. (kjv) Mat 21:8 Most of the crowd spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. Mat 21:8 ὁ δὲ πλεῖστος ὄχλος ἔστρωσαν ἑαυτῶν τὰ ἱμάτια ἐν τῇ ὁδῶ, ἄλλοι δὲ ἔκοπτον κλάδους ἀπὸ τῶν δένδρων καὶ ἐστρώννυον ἐν τῇ ὁδῶ.
Mat 21:9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. (kjv) Mat 21:9 The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David; BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Hosanna in the highest!" Mat 21:9 οἱ δὲ ὄχλοι οἱ προάγοντες αὐτὸν καὶ οἱ ἀκολουθοῦντες ἔκραζον λέγοντες, ὡσαννὰ τῶ υἱῶ δαυίδ· εὐλογημένος ὁ ἐρχόμενος ἐν ὀνόματι κυρίου· ὡσαννὰ ἐν τοῖς ὑψίστοις.
Mat 21:10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? (kjv) Mat 21:10 When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, "Who is this?" Mat 21:10 καὶ εἰσελθόντος αὐτοῦ εἰς ἱεροσόλυμα ἐσείσθη πᾶσα ἡ πόλις λέγουσα, τίς ἐστιν οὖτος;
Mat 21:11 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee. (kjv) Mat 21:11 And the crowds were saying, "This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee." Mat 21:11 οἱ δὲ ὄχλοι ἔλεγον, οὖτός ἐστιν ὁ προφήτης ἰησοῦς ὁ ἀπὸ ναζαρὲθ τῆς γαλιλαίας.
Mat 21:12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, (kjv) Mat 21:12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. Mat 21:12 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ἰησοῦς εἰς τὸ ἱερόν, καὶ ἐξέβαλεν πάντας τοὺς πωλοῦντας καὶ ἀγοράζοντας ἐν τῶ ἱερῶ, καὶ τὰς τραπέζας τῶν κολλυβιστῶν κατέστρεψεν καὶ τὰς καθέδρας τῶν πωλούντων τὰς περιστεράς,
Mat 21:13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. (kjv) Mat 21:13 And He said to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer'; but you are making it a robbers' den." Mat 21:13 καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς, γέγραπται, ὁ οἶκός μου οἶκος προσευχῆς κληθήσεται, ὑμεῖς δὲ αὐτὸν ποιεῖτε σπήλαιον λῃστῶν.
Mat 21:14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. (kjv) Mat 21:14 And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. Mat 21:14 καὶ προσῆλθον αὐτῶ τυφλοὶ καὶ χωλοὶ ἐν τῶ ἱερῶ, καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτούς.
Mat 21:15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased, (kjv) Mat 21:15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they became indignant Mat 21:15 ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς τὰ θαυμάσια ἃ ἐποίησεν καὶ τοὺς παῖδας τοὺς κράζοντας ἐν τῶ ἱερῶ καὶ λέγοντας, ὡσαννὰ τῶ υἱῶ δαυίδ, ἠγανάκτησαν
Mat 21:16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise? (kjv) Mat 21:16 and said to Him, "Do You hear what these children are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes; have you never read, 'Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise for Yourself'?" Mat 21:16 καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῶ, ἀκούεις τί οὖτοι λέγουσιν; ὁ δὲ ἰησοῦς λέγει αὐτοῖς, ναί· οὐδέποτε ἀνέγνωτε ὅτι ἐκ στόματος νηπίων καὶ θηλαζόντων κατηρτίσω αἶνον;
Mat 21:17 And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there. (kjv) Mat 21:17 And He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there. Mat 21:17 καὶ καταλιπὼν αὐτοὺς ἐξῆλθεν ἔξω τῆς πόλεως εἰς βηθανίαν, καὶ ηὐλίσθη ἐκεῖ.
Mat 21:18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered. (kjv) Mat 21:18 Now in the morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry. Mat 21:18 πρωῒ δὲ ἐπανάγων εἰς τὴν πόλιν ἐπείνασεν.
Mat 21:19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. (kjv) Mat 21:19 Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He said to it, "No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you." And at once the fig tree withered. Mat 21:19 καὶ ἰδὼν συκῆν μίαν ἐπὶ τῆς ὁδοῦ ἦλθεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτήν, καὶ οὐδὲν εὖρεν ἐν αὐτῇ εἰ μὴ φύλλα μόνον, καὶ λέγει αὐτῇ, μηκέτι ἐκ σοῦ καρπὸς γένηται εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα. καὶ ἐξηράνθη παραχρῆμα ἡ συκῆ.
Mat 21:20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! (kjv) Mat 21:20 Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, "How did the fig tree wither all at once?" Mat 21:20 καὶ ἰδόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ ἐθαύμασαν λέγοντες, πῶς παραχρῆμα ἐξηράνθη ἡ συκῆ;
Mat 21:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. (kjv) Mat 21:21 And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will happen. Mat 21:21 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ἐὰν ἔχητε πίστιν καὶ μὴ διακριθῆτε, οὐ μόνον τὸ τῆς συκῆς ποιήσετε, ἀλλὰ κἂν τῶ ὄρει τούτῳ εἴπητε, ἄρθητι καὶ βλήθητι εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν, γενήσεται·
Mat 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. (kjv) Mat 21:22 And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." Mat 21:22 καὶ πάντα ὅσα ἂν αἰτήσητε ἐν τῇ προσευχῇ πιστεύοντες λήμψεσθε.
Mat 21:23 And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? (kjv) Mat 21:23 When He entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?" Mat 21:23 καὶ ἐλθόντος αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν προσῆλθον αὐτῶ διδάσκοντι οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ λέγοντες, ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιεῖς; καὶ τίς σοι ἔδωκεν τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην;
Mat 21:24 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things. (kjv) Mat 21:24 Jesus said to them, "I will also ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. Mat 21:24 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ἐρωτήσω ὑμᾶς κἀγὼ λόγον ἕνα, ὃν ἐὰν εἴπητέ μοι κἀγὼ ὑμῖν ἐρῶ ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιῶ·
Mat 21:25 The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him? (kjv) Mat 21:25 The baptism of John was from what source, from heaven or from men?" And they began reasoning among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Then why did you not believe him?' Mat 21:25 τὸ βάπτισμα τὸ ἰωάννου πόθεν ἦν; ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἢ ἐξ ἀνθρώπων; οἱ δὲ διελογίζοντο ἐν ἑαυτοῖς λέγοντες, ἐὰν εἴπωμεν, ἐξ οὐρανοῦ, ἐρεῖ ἡμῖν, διὰ τί οὗν οὐκ ἐπιστεύσατε αὐτῶ;
Mat 21:26 But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet. (kjv) Mat 21:26 But if we say, 'From men, 'we fear the people; for they all regard John as a prophet." Mat 21:26 ἐὰν δὲ εἴπωμεν, ἐξ ἀνθρώπων, φοβούμεθα τὸν ὄχλον, πάντες γὰρ ὡς προφήτην ἔχουσιν τὸν ἰωάννην.
Mat 21:27 And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. (kjv) Mat 21:27 And answering Jesus, they said, "We do not know." He also said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. Mat 21:27 καὶ ἀποκριθέντες τῶ ἰησοῦ εἶπαν, οὐκ οἴδαμεν. ἔφη αὐτοῖς καὶ αὐτός, οὐδὲ ἐγὼ λέγω ὑμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιῶ.
Mat 21:28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. (kjv) Mat 21:28 "But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, 'Son, go work today in the vineyard.' Mat 21:28 τί δὲ ὑμῖν δοκεῖ; ἄνθρωπος εἶχεν τέκνα δύο. καὶ προσελθὼν τῶ πρώτῳ εἶπεν, τέκνον, ὕπαγε σήμερον ἐργάζου ἐν τῶ ἀμπελῶνι.
Mat 21:29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. (kjv) Mat 21:29 And he answered, 'I will not'; but afterward he regretted it and went. Mat 21:29 ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν, οὐ θέλω, ὕστερον δὲ μεταμεληθεὶς ἀπῆλθεν.
Mat 21:30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. (kjv) Mat 21:30 The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, 'I will, sir'; but he did not go. Mat 21:30 προσελθὼν δὲ τῶ ἑτέρῳ εἶπεν ὡσαύτως. ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν, ἐγώ, κύριε· καὶ οὐκ ἀπῆλθεν.
Mat 21:31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. (kjv) Mat 21:31 Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you. Mat 21:31 τίς ἐκ τῶν δύο ἐποίησεν τὸ θέλημα τοῦ πατρός; λέγουσιν, ὁ πρῶτος. λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς, ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οἱ τελῶναι καὶ αἱ πόρναι προάγουσιν ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ.
Mat 21 32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him. (kjv) Mat 21:32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even feel remorse afterward so as to believe him. Mat 21:32 ἦλθεν γὰρ ἰωάννης πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν ὁδῶ δικαιοσύνης, καὶ οὐκ ἐπιστεύσατε αὐτῶ· οἱ δὲ τελῶναι καὶ αἱ πόρναι ἐπίστευσαν αὐτῶ· ὑμεῖς δὲ ἰδόντες οὐδὲ μετεμελήθητε ὕστερον τοῦ πιστεῦσαι αὐτῶ.
Mat 21 33 Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country (kjv) Mat 21:33 "Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard and put a wall around it and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and rented it out to vine-growers and went on a journey. Mat 21:33 ἄλλην παραβολὴν ἀκούσατε. ἄνθρωπος ἦν οἰκοδεσπότης ὅστις ἐφύτευσεν ἀμπελῶνα καὶ φραγμὸν αὐτῶ περιέθηκεν καὶ ὤρυξεν ἐν αὐτῶ ληνὸν καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν πύργον, καὶ ἐξέδετο αὐτὸν γεωργοῖς, καὶ ἀπεδήμησεν.
Mat 21:34 And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it. (kjv) Mat 21:34 When the harvest time approached, he sent his slaves to the vine-growers to receive his produce. Mat 21:34 ὅτε δὲ ἤγγισεν ὁ καιρὸς τῶν καρπῶν, ἀπέστειλεν τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ πρὸς τοὺς γεωργοὺς λαβεῖν τοὺς καρποὺς αὐτοῦ.
Mat 21:35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. (kjv) Mat 21:35 The vine-growers took his slaves and beat one, and killed another, and stoned a third. Mat 21:35 καὶ λαβόντες οἱ γεωργοὶ τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ ὃν μὲν ἔδειραν, ὃν δὲ ἀπέκτειναν, ὃν δὲ ἐλιθοβόλησαν.
Mat 21:36 Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise. (kjv) Mat 21:36 Again he sent another group of slaves larger than the first; and they did the same thing to them. Mat 21:36 πάλιν ἀπέστειλεν ἄλλους δούλους πλείονας τῶν πρώτων, καὶ ἐποίησαν αὐτοῖς ὡσαύτως.
Mat 21:37 But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. (kjv) Mat 21:37 But afterward he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.' Mat 21:37 ὕστερον δὲ ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ λέγων, ἐντραπήσονται τὸν υἱόν μου.
Mat 21:38 But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. (kjv) Mat 21:38 But when the vine-growers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.' Mat 21:38 οἱ δὲ γεωργοὶ ἰδόντες τὸν υἱὸν εἶπον ἐν ἑαυτοῖς, οὖτός ἐστιν ὁ κληρονόμος· δεῦτε ἀποκτείνωμεν αὐτὸν καὶ σχῶμεν τὴν κληρονομίαν αὐτοῦ.
Mat 21:39 And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him. (kjv) Mat 21:39 They took him, and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. Mat 21:39 καὶ λαβόντες αὐτὸν ἐξέβαλον ἔξω τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος καὶ ἀπέκτειναν.
Mat 21:40 When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen? (kjv) Mat 21:40 Therefore when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-growers?" Mat 21:40 ὅταν οὗν ἔλθῃ ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος, τί ποιήσει τοῖς γεωργοῖς ἐκείνοις;
Mat 21:41 They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons. (kjv) Mat 21:41 They said to Him, "He will bring those wretches to a wretched end, and will rent out the vineyard to other vine-growers who will pay him the proceeds at the proper seasons." Mat 21:41 λέγουσιν αὐτῶ, κακοὺς κακῶς ἀπολέσει αὐτούς, καὶ τὸν ἀμπελῶνα ἐκδώσεται ἄλλοις γεωργοῖς, οἵτινες ἀποδώσουσιν αὐτῶ τοὺς καρποὺς ἐν τοῖς καιροῖς αὐτῶν.
Mat 21:42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? (kjv) Mat 21:42 Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures, 'THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone; This came about from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes'? Mat 21:42 λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς, οὐδέποτε ἀνέγνωτε ἐν ταῖς γραφαῖς, λίθον ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες οὖτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας· παρὰ κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη, καὶ ἔστιν θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν;
Mat 21:43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. (kjv) Mat 21:43 Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people, producing the fruit of it. Mat 21:43 διὰ τοῦτο λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἀρθήσεται ἀφ᾽ ὑμῶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ δοθήσεται ἔθνει ποιοῦντι τοὺς καρποὺς αὐτῆς.
Mat 21:44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. (kjv) Mat 21:44 And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust." Mat 21:44 [[καὶ ὁ πεσὼν ἐπὶ τὸν λίθον τοῦτον συνθλασθήσεται· ἐφ᾽ ὃν δ᾽ ἂν πέσῃ λικμήσει αὐτόν.]]
Mat 21:45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. (kjv) Mat 21:45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them. Mat 21:45 καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ φαρισαῖοι τὰς παραβολὰς αὐτοῦ ἔγνωσαν ὅτι περὶ αὐτῶν λέγει·
Mat 21:46 But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.(kjv) Mat 21:46 When they sought to seize Him, they feared the people, because they considered Him to be a prophet. Mat 21:46 καὶ ζητοῦντες αὐτὸν κρατῆσαι ἐφοβήθησαν τοὺς ὄχλους, ἐπεὶ εἰς προφήτην αὐτὸν εἶχον.
Mat 22:1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, (kjv) Mat 22:1 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying, Mat 22:1 καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ ἰησοῦς πάλιν εἶπεν ἐν παραβολαῖς αὐτοῖς λέγων,
Mat 22:2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, (kjv) Mat 22:2 "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. Mat 22:2 ὡμοιώθη ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν ἀνθρώπῳ βασιλεῖ, ὅστις ἐποίησεν γάμους τῶ υἱῶ αὐτοῦ.
Mat 22:3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. (kjv) Mat 22:3 And he sent out his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come. Mat 22:3 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ καλέσαι τοὺς κεκλημένους εἰς τοὺς γάμους, καὶ οὐκ ἤθελον ἐλθεῖν.
Mat 22 4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready come unto the marriage. (kjv) Mat 22:4 Again he sent out other slaves saying, 'Tell those who have been invited, "Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened livestock are all butchered and everything is ready; come to the wedding feast."' Mat 22:4 πάλιν ἀπέστειλεν ἄλλους δούλους λέγων, εἴπατε τοῖς κεκλημένοις, ἰδοὺ τὸ ἄριστόν μου ἡτοίμακα, οἱ ταῦροί μου καὶ τὰ σιτιστὰ τεθυμένα, καὶ πάντα ἕτοιμα· δεῦτε εἰς τοὺς γάμους.
Mat 22:5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: (kjv) Mat 22:5 But they paid no attention and went their way, one to his own farm, another to his business, Mat 22:5 οἱ δὲ ἀμελήσαντες ἀπῆλθον, ὃς μὲν εἰς τὸν ἴδιον ἀγρόν, ὃς δὲ ἐπὶ τὴν ἐμπορίαν αὐτοῦ·
Mat 22:6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. (kjv) Mat 22:6 and the rest seized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them. Mat 22:6 οἱ δὲ λοιποὶ κρατήσαντες τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ ὕβρισαν καὶ ἀπέκτειναν.
Mat 22:7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. (kjv) Mat 22:7 But the king was enraged, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire. Mat 22:7 ὁ δὲ βασιλεὺς ὠργίσθη, καὶ πέμψας τὰ στρατεύματα αὐτοῦ ἀπώλεσεν τοὺς φονεῖς ἐκείνους καὶ τὴν πόλιν αὐτῶν ἐνέπρησεν.
Mat 22:8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. (kjv) Mat 22:8 Then he said to his slaves, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Mat 22:8 τότε λέγει τοῖς δούλοις αὐτοῦ, ὁ μὲν γάμος ἕτοιμός ἐστιν, οἱ δὲ κεκλημένοι οὐκ ἦσαν ἄξιοι·
Mat 22:9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. (kjv) Mat 22:9 Go therefore to the main highways, and as many as you find there, invite to the wedding feast.' Mat 22:9 πορεύεσθε οὗν ἐπὶ τὰς διεξόδους τῶν ὁδῶν, καὶ ὅσους ἐὰν εὕρητε καλέσατε εἰς τοὺς γάμους.
Mat 22:10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. (kjv) Mat 22:10 Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered together all they found, both evil and good; and the wedding hall was filled with dinner guests. Mat 22:10 καὶ ἐξελθόντες οἱ δοῦλοι ἐκεῖνοι εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς συνήγαγον πάντας οὓς εὖρον, πονηρούς τε καὶ ἀγαθούς· καὶ ἐπλήσθη ὁ γάμος ἀνακειμένων.
Mat 22:11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: (kjv) Mat 22:11 "But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes, Mat 22:11 εἰσελθὼν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς θεάσασθαι τοὺς ἀνακειμένους εἶδεν ἐκεῖ ἄνθρωπον οὐκ ἐνδεδυμένον ἔνδυμα γάμου·
Mat 22:12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. (kjv) Mat 22:12 and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?' And the man was speechless. Mat 22:12 καὶ λέγει αὐτῶ, ἑταῖρε, πῶς εἰσῆλθες ὧδε μὴ ἔχων ἔνδυμα γάμου; ὁ δὲ ἐφιμώθη.
Mat 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (kjv) Mat 22:13 Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' Mat 22:13 τότε ὁ βασιλεὺς εἶπεν τοῖς διακόνοις, δήσαντες αὐτοῦ πόδας καὶ χεῖρας ἐκβάλετε αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ σκότος τὸ ἐξώτερον· ἐκεῖ ἔσται ὁ κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὁ βρυγμὸς τῶν ὀδόντων.
Mat 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen. (kjv) Mat 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen." Mat 22:14 πολλοὶ γάρ εἰσιν κλητοὶ ὀλίγοι δὲ ἐκλεκτοί.
Mat 22:15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. (kjv) Mat 22:15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted together how they might trap Him in what He said. Mat 22:15 τότε πορευθέντες οἱ φαρισαῖοι συμβούλιον ἔλαβον ὅπως αὐτὸν παγιδεύσωσιν ἐν λόγῳ.
Mat 22:16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. (kjv) Mat 22:16 And they sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and defer to no one; for You are not partial to any. Mat 22:16 καὶ ἀποστέλλουσιν αὐτῶ τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτῶν μετὰ τῶν ἡρῳδιανῶν λέγοντες, διδάσκαλε, οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἀληθὴς εἶ καὶ τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ διδάσκεις, καὶ οὐ μέλει σοι περὶ οὐδενός, οὐ γὰρ βλέπεις εἰς πρόσωπον ἀνθρώπων.
Mat 22:17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? (kjv) Mat 22:17 Tell us then, what do You think? Is it lawful to give a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?" Mat 22:17 εἰπὲ οὗν ἡμῖν τί σοι δοκεῖ· ἔξεστιν δοῦναι κῆνσον καίσαρι ἢ οὔ;
Mat 22:18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? (kjv) Mat 22:18 But Jesus perceived their malice, and said, "Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites? Mat 22:18 γνοὺς δὲ ὁ ἰησοῦς τὴν πονηρίαν αὐτῶν εἶπεν, τί με πειράζετε, ὑποκριταί;
Mat 22:19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. (kjv) Mat 22:19 Show Me the coin used for the poll-tax." And they brought Him a denarius. Mat 22:19 ἐπιδείξατέ μοι τὸ νόμισμα τοῦ κήνσου. οἱ δὲ προσήνεγκαν αὐτῶ δηνάριον.
Mat 22:20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? (kjv) Mat 22:20 And He said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" Mat 22:20 καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς, τίνος ἡ εἰκὼν αὕτη καὶ ἡ ἐπιγραφή;
Mat 22:21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. (kjv) Mat 22:21 They said to Him, "Caesar's." Then He said to them, "Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's." Mat 22:21 λέγουσιν αὐτῶ, καίσαρος. τότε λέγει αὐτοῖς, ἀπόδοτε οὗν τὰ καίσαρος καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τῶ θεῶ.
Mat 22:22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way. (kjv) Mat 22:22 And hearing this, they were amazed, and leaving Him, they went away. Mat 22:22 καὶ ἀκούσαντες ἐθαύμασαν, καὶ ἀφέντες αὐτὸν ἀπῆλθαν.
Mat 22:23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, (kjv) Mat 22:23 On that day some Sadducees (who say there is no resurrection) came to Jesus and questioned Him, Mat 22:23 ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ προσῆλθον αὐτῶ σαδδουκαῖοι, λέγοντες μὴ εἶναι ἀνάστασιν, καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν
Mat 22:24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. (kjv) Mat 22:24 asking, "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies having no children, his brother as next of kin shall marry his wife, and raise up children for his brother.' Mat 22:24 λέγοντες, διδάσκαλε, μωϊσῆς εἶπεν, ἐάν τις ἀποθάνῃ μὴ ἔχων τέκνα, ἐπιγαμβρεύσει ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀναστήσει σπέρμα τῶ ἀδελφῶ αὐτοῦ.
Mat 22 25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother (kjv) Mat 22:25 Now there were seven brothers with us; and the first married and died, and having no children left his wife to his brother; Mat 22:25 ἦσαν δὲ παρ᾽ ἡμῖν ἑπτὰ ἀδελφοί· καὶ ὁ πρῶτος γήμας ἐτελεύτησεν, καὶ μὴ ἔχων σπέρμα ἀφῆκεν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ τῶ ἀδελφῶ αὐτοῦ·
Mat 22:26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. (kjv) Mat 22:26 so also the second, and the third, down to the seventh. Mat 22:26 ὁμοίως καὶ ὁ δεύτερος καὶ ὁ τρίτος, ἕως τῶν ἑπτά.
Mat 22:27 And last of all the woman died also. (kjv) Mat 22:27 Last of all, the woman died. Mat 22:27 ὕστερον δὲ πάντων ἀπέθανεν ἡ γυνή.
Mat 22:28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. (kjv) Mat 22:28 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her." Mat 22:28 ἐν τῇ ἀναστάσει οὗν τίνος τῶν ἑπτὰ ἔσται γυνή; πάντες γὰρ ἔσχον αὐτήν.
Mat 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. (kjv) Mat 22:29 But Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God. Mat 22:29 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, πλανᾶσθε μὴ εἰδότες τὰς γραφὰς μηδὲ τὴν δύναμιν τοῦ θεοῦ·
Mat 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. Mat 22:32 I am THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. Mat 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? (kjv) Mat 22:36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" Mat 22:36 διδάσκαλε, ποία ἐντολὴ μεγάλη ἐν τῶ νόμῳ;
Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (kjv) Mat 22:37 And He said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' Mat 22:37 ὁ δὲ ἔφη αὐτῶ, ἀγαπήσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ καρδίᾳ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ψυχῇ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ διανοίᾳ σου·
Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment. (kjv) Mat 22:38 This is the great and foremost commandment. Mat 22:38 αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ μεγάλη καὶ πρώτη ἐντολή.
Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (kjv) Mat 22:39 The second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' Mat 22:39 δευτέρα δὲ ὁμοία αὐτῇ, ἀγαπήσεις τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν.
Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (kjv) Mat 22:40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets." Mat 22:40 ἐν ταύταις ταῖς δυσὶν ἐντολαῖς ὅλος ὁ νόμος κρέμαται καὶ οἱ προφῆται.
Mat 22:41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, (kjv) Mat 22:41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question: Mat 22:41 συνηγμένων δὲ τῶν φαρισαίων ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς ὁ ἰησοῦς
Mat 22:42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. (kjv) Mat 22:42 "What do you think about the Christ, whose son is He?" They said to Him, "The son of David." Mat 22:42 λέγων, τί ὑμῖν δοκεῖ περὶ τοῦ χριστοῦ; τίνος υἱός ἐστιν; λέγουσιν αὐτῶ, τοῦ δαυίδ.
Mat 22:43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, (kjv) Mat 22:43 He said to them, "Then how does David in the Spirit call Him 'Lord,' saying, Mat 22:43 λέγει αὐτοῖς, πῶς οὗν δαυὶδ ἐν πνεύματι καλεῖ αὐτὸν κύριον λέγων,
Mat 22:44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? (kjv) Mat 22:44 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, Until I put Your enemies beneath Your feet"'? Mat 22:44 εἶπεν κύριος τῶ κυρίῳ μου, κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποκάτω τῶν ποδῶν σου;
Mat 22:45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? (kjv) Mat 22:45 If David then calls Him 'Lord,' how is He his son?" Mat 22:45 εἰ οὗν δαυὶδ καλεῖ αὐτὸν κύριον, πῶς υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἐστιν;
Mat 22:46 And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.(kjv) Mat 22:46 No one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day on to ask Him another question. Mat 22:46 καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐδύνατο ἀποκριθῆναι αὐτῶ λόγον, οὐδὲ ἐτόλμησέν τις ἀπ᾽ ἐκείνης τῆς ἡμέρας ἐπερωτῆσαι αὐτὸν οὐκέτι.
