Luk 9:1 And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to heal diseases.
Luk 9:2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. Luk 9:2 And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing.
Luk 9:3 And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. Luk 9:3 And He said to them, "Take nothing for your journey, neither a staff, nor a bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not even have two tunics apiece.
Luk 9:4 And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. Luk 9:4 Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that city.
Luk 9:5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. Luk 9:5 And as for those who do not receive you, as you go out from that city, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them."
Luk 9:6 And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where. Luk 9:6 Departing, they began going throughout the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
Luk 9:7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead; Luk 9:7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was happening; and he was greatly perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead, Luk 9:7 ἤκουσεν δὲ ἡρῴδης ὁ τετραάρχης τὰ γινόμενα πάντα, καὶ διηπόρει διὰ τὸ λέγεσθαι ὑπό τινων ὅτι ἰωάννης ἠγέρθη ἐκ νεκρῶν,
Luk 9:8 And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. Luk 9:8 and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen again.
Luk 9:9 And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him. Luk 9:9 Herod said, "I myself had John beheaded; but who is this man about whom I hear such things?" And he kept trying to see Him.
Luk 9:10 And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. Luk 9:10 When the apostles returned, they gave an account to Him of all that they had done. Taking them with Him, He withdrew by Himself to a city called Bethsaida.
Luk 9:11 And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. Luk 9:11 But the crowds were aware of this and followed Him; and welcoming them, He began speaking to them about the kingdom of God and curing those who had need of healing.
Luk 9:12 And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place. Luk 9:12 Now the day was ending, and the twelve came and said to Him, "Send the crowd away, that they may go into the surrounding villages and countryside and find lodging and get something to eat; for here we are in a desolate place."
Luk 9:13 But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people. Luk 9:13 But He said to them, "You give them something to eat!" And they said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless perhaps we go and buy food for all these people."
Luk 9:14 For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company. Luk 9:14 (For there were about five thousand men. ) And He said to His disciples, "Have them sit down to eat in groups of about fifty each."
Luk 9:15 And they did so, and made them all sit down. Luk 9:15 They did so, and had them all sit down.
Luk 9:16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. Luk 9:16 Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed them, and broke them, and kept giving them to the disciples to set before the people.
Luk 9:17 And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets. Luk 9:17 And they all ate and were satisfied; and the broken pieces which they had left over were picked up, twelve baskets full.
Luk 9:18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am? Luk 9:18 And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, "Who do the people say that I am?" Luk 9:18 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ εἶναι αὐτὸν προσευχόμενον κατὰ μόνας συνῆσαν αὐτῶ οἱ μαθηταί, καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς λέγων, τίνα με λέγουσιν οἱ ὄχλοι εἶναι;
Luk 9:19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again. Luk 9:19 They answered and said, "John the Baptist, and others say Elijah; but others, that one of the prophets of old has risen again."
Luk 9:20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God. Luk 9:20 And He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" And Peter answered and said, "The Christ of God."
Luk 9:21 And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing; Luk 9:21 But He warned them and instructed them not to tell this to anyone, Luk 9:21 ὁ δὲ ἐπιτιμήσας αὐτοῖς παρήγγειλεν μηδενὶ λέγειν τοῦτο,
Luk 9:22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. Luk 9:22 saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised up on the third day."
Luk 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luk 9:23 And He was saying to them all, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
Luk 9:24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. Luk 9:24 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.
Luk 9:25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? Luk 9:25 For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself? Luk 9:25 τί γὰρ ὠφελεῖται ἄνθρωπος κερδήσας τὸν κόσμον ὅλον ἑαυτὸν δὲ ἀπολέσας ἢ ζημιωθείς;
Luk 9:26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels. Luk 9:26 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
Luk 9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. Luk 9:27 But I say to you truthfully, there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God."
Luk 9:28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. Luk 9:28 Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.
Luk 9:29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. Luk 9:29 And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming.
Luk 9:30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Luk 9:30 And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses and Elijah, Luk 9:30 καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνδρες δύο συνελάλουν αὐτῶ, οἵτινες ἦσαν μωϊσῆς καὶ ἠλίας,
Luk 9:31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. Luk 9:31 who, appearing in glory, were speaking of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
Luk 9:32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. Luk 9:32 Now Peter and his companions had been overcome with sleep; but when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men standing with Him.
Luk 9 33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias not knowing what he said. Luk 9:33 And as these were leaving Him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles: one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah"--not realizing what he was saying.
Luk 9:34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. Luk 9:34 While he was saying this, a cloud formed and began to overshadow them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
Luk 9:35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. Luk 9:35 Then a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him!"
Luk 9:36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen. Luk 9:36 And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent, and reported to no one in those days any of the things which they had seen.
Luk 9:37 And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him. Luk 9:37 On the next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met Him.
Luk 9:38 And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child. Luk 9:38 And a man from the crowd shouted, saying, "Teacher, I beg You to look at my son, for he is my only boy, Luk 9:38 καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄχλου ἐβόησεν λέγων, διδάσκαλε, δέομαί σου ἐπιβλέψαι ἐπὶ τὸν υἱόν μου, ὅτι μονογενής μοί ἐστιν,
Luk 9:39 And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him. Luk 9:39 and a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly screams, and it throws him into a convulsion with foaming at the mouth; and only with difficulty does it leave him, mauling him as it leaves.
Luk 9:40 And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not. Luk 9:40 I begged Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not."
Luk 9:41 And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither. Luk 9:41 And Jesus answered and said, "You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here."
Luk 9:42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father. Luk 9:42 While he was still approaching, the demon slammed him to the ground and threw him into a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy and gave him back to his father.
Luk 9:43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples, Luk 9:43 And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. But while everyone was marveling at all that He was doing, He said to His disciples, Luk 9:43 ἐξεπλήσσοντο δὲ πάντες ἐπὶ τῇ μεγαλειότητι τοῦ θεοῦ.
Luk 9:44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. Luk 9:44 "Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men."
Luk 9:45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying. Luk 9:45 But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they would not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement.
Luk 9:46 Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest. Luk 9:46 An argument started among them as to which of them might be the greatest.
Luk 9:47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him, Luk 9:47 But Jesus, knowing what they were thinking in their heart, took a child and stood him by His side, Luk 9:47 ὁ δὲ ἰησοῦς εἰδὼς τὸν διαλογισμὸν τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν ἐπιλαβόμενος παιδίον ἔστησεν αὐτὸ παρ᾽ ἑαυτῶ,
Luk 9 48 And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great. Luk 9:48 and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for the one who is least among all of you, this is the one who is great."
Luk 9:49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. Luk 9:49 John answered and said, "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name; and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow along with us."
Luk 9:50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us. Luk 9:50 But Jesus said to him, "Do not hinder him; for he who is not against you is for you."
Luk 9:51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, Luk 9:51 When the days were approaching for His ascension, He was determined to go to Jerusalem; Luk 9:51 ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῶ συμπληροῦσθαι τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς ἀναλήμψεως αὐτοῦ καὶ αὐτὸς τὸ πρόσωπον ἐστήρισεν τοῦ πορεύεσθαι εἰς ἰερουσαλήμ,
Luk 9:52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. Luk 9:52 and He sent messengers on ahead of Him, and they went and entered a village of the Samaritans to make arrangements for Him.
Luk 9:53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. Luk 9:53 But they did not receive Him, because He was traveling toward Jerusalem.
Luk 9:54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? Luk 9:54 When His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?" Luk 9:54 ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ ἰάκωβος καὶ ἰωάννης εἶπαν, κύριε, θέλεις εἴπωμεν πῦρ καταβῆναι ἀπὸ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἀναλῶσαι αὐτούς;
Luk 9:55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. Luk 9:55 But He turned and rebuked them, [and said, "You do not know what kind of spirit you are of; Luk 9:55 στραφεὶς δὲ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτοῖς.
Luk 9:56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. Luk 9:56 for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them."] And they went on to another village.
Luk 9:57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. Luk 9:57 As they were going along the road, someone said to Him, "I will follow You wherever You go."
Luk 9:58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. Luk 9:58 And Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."
Luk 9:59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. Luk 9:59 And He said to another, "Follow Me." But he said, "Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father."
Luk 9:60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. Luk 9:60 But He said to him, "Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God."
