Day - 299 - Luke 11-12
Luk 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. Luk 11:1 It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples."
Luk 11:2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Luk 11:2 And He said to them, "When you pray, say: 'Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.
Luk 11:3 Give us day by day our daily bread. Luk 11:3 'Give us each day our daily bread.
Luk 11:4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Luk 11:4 'And forgive us our sins, For we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.'"
Luk 11:5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; Luk 11:5 Then He said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves; Luk 11:5 καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, τίς ἐξ ὑμῶν ἕξει φίλον καὶ πορεύσεται πρὸς αὐτὸν μεσονυκτίου καὶ εἴπῃ αὐτῶ, φίλε, χρῆσόν μοι τρεῖς ἄρτους,
Luk 11:6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? Luk 11:6 for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him'; Luk 11:6 ἐπειδὴ φίλος μου παρεγένετο ἐξ ὁδοῦ πρός με καὶ οὐκ ἔχω ὃ παραθήσω αὐτῶ·
Luk 11:7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. Luk 11:7 and from inside he answers and says, 'Do not bother me; the door has already been shut and my children and I are in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything.'
Luk 11:8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. Luk 11:8 I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
Luk 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Luk 11:9 "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Luk 11:10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Luk 11:10 For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.
Luk 11:11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Luk 11:11 Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? Luk 11:11 τίνα δὲ ἐξ ὑμῶν τὸν πατέρα αἰτήσει ὁ υἱὸς ἰχθύν, καὶ ἀντὶ ἰχθύος ὄφιν αὐτῶ ἐπιδώσει;
Luk 11:12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? Luk 11:12 Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? Luk 11:12 ἢ καὶ αἰτήσει ᾠόν, ἐπιδώσει αὐτῶ σκορπίον;
Luk 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Luk 11:13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?"
Luk 11:14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. Luk 11:14 And He was casting out a demon, and it was mute; when the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds were amazed.
Luk 11:15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. Luk 11:15 But some of them said, "He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons."
Luk 11:16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. Luk 11:16 Others, to test Him, were demanding of Him a sign from heaven.
Luk 11:17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. Luk 11:17 But He knew their thoughts and said to them, "Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and a house divided against itself falls.
Luk 11:18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. Luk 11:18 If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.
Luk 11:19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. Luk 11:19 And if I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? So they will be your judges.
Luk 11:20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. Luk 11:20 But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
Luk 11:21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: Luk 11:21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are undisturbed.
Luk 11:22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. Luk 11:22 But when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armor on which he had relied and distributes his plunder.
Luk 11:23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. Luk 11:23 He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me, scatters.
Luk 11:24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. Luk 11:24 "When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding any, it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.'
Luk 11:25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. Luk 11:25 And when it comes, it finds it swept and put in order.
Luk 11:26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Luk 11:26 Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first."
Luk 11:27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. Luk 11:27 While Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed."
Luk 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. Luk 11:28 But He said, "On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it."
Luk 11:29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. Luk 11:29 As the crowds were increasing, He began to say, "This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks for a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah.
Luk 11:30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation. Luk 11:30 For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
Luk 11:31 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. Luk 11:31 The Queen of the South will rise up with the men of this generation at the judgment and condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
Luk 11:32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. Luk 11:32 The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.
Luk 11:33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light. Luk 11:33 "No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.
Luk 11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Luk 11:34 The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness.
Luk 11:35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. Luk 11:35 Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness.
Luk 11:36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light. Luk 11:36 If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays."
Luk 11:37 And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat. Luk 11:37 Now when He had spoken, a Pharisee *asked Him to have lunch with him; and He went in, and reclined at the table.
Luk 11:38 And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner. Luk 11:38 When the Pharisee saw it, he was surprised that He had not first ceremonially washed before the meal.
Luk 11:39 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. Luk 11:39 But the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the platter; but inside of you, you are full of robbery and wickedness.
Luk 11:40 Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also? Luk 11:40 You foolish ones, did not He who made the outside make the inside also? Luk 11:40 ἄφρονες, οὐχ ὁ ποιήσας τὸ ἔξωθεν καὶ τὸ ἔσωθεν ἐποίησεν;
Luk 11:41 But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you. Luk 11:41 But give that which is within as charity, and then all things are clean for you.
Luk 11:42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Luk 11:42 "But woe to you Pharisees! For you pay tithe of mint and rue and every kind of garden herb, and yet disregard justice and the love of God; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.
Luk 11:43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets. Luk 11:43 Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the chief seats in the synagogues and the respectful greetings in the market places.
Luk 11:44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them. Luk 11:44 Woe to you! For you are like concealed tombs, and the people who walk over them are unaware of it."
Luk 11:45 Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also. Luk 11:45 One of the lawyers *said to Him in reply, "Teacher, when You say this, You insult us too."
Luk 11:46 And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers. Luk 11:46 But He said, "Woe to you lawyers as well! For you weigh men down with burdens hard to bear, while you yourselves will not even touch the burdens with one of your fingers.
Luk 11:47 Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. Luk 11:47 Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and it was your fathers who killed them.
Luk 11:48 Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres. Luk 11:48 So you are witnesses and approve the deeds of your fathers; because it was they who killed them, and you build their tombs.
Luk 11:49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute: Luk 11:49 For this reason also the wisdom of God said, 'I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and some they will persecute, Luk 11:49 διὰ τοῦτο καὶ ἡ σοφία τοῦ θεοῦ εἶπεν, ἀποστελῶ εἰς αὐτοὺς προφήτας καὶ ἀποστόλους, καὶ ἐξ αὐτῶν ἀποκτενοῦσιν καὶ διώξουσιν,
Luk 11:50 That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; Luk 11:50 so that the blood of all the prophets, shed since the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation, Luk 11:50 ἵνα ἐκζητηθῇ τὸ αἷμα πάντων τῶν προφητῶν τὸ ἐκκεχυμένον ἀπὸ καταβολῆς κόσμου ἀπὸ τῆς γενεᾶς ταύτης,
Luk 11:51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation. Luk 11:51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be charged against this generation.'
Luk 11:52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. Luk 11:52 Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge; you yourselves did not enter, and you hindered those who were entering."
Luk 11:53 And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things: Luk 11:53 When He left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile and to question Him closely on many subjects, Luk 11:53 κἀκεῖθεν ἐξελθόντος αὐτοῦ ἤρξαντο οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ φαρισαῖοι δεινῶς ἐνέχειν καὶ ἀποστοματίζειν αὐτὸν περὶ πλειόνων,
Luk 11:54 Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him. Luk 11:54 plotting against Him to catch Him in something He might say.
Luk 12:1 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. Luk 12:1 Under these circumstances, after so many thousands of people had gathered together that they were stepping on one another, He began saying to His disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Luk 12:2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Luk 12:2 But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.
Luk 12:3 Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. Luk 12:3 Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops.
Luk 12:4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. Luk 12:4 "I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do.
Luk 12:5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. Luk 12:5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!
Luk 12:6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? Luk 12:6 Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.
Luk 12:7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. Luk 12:7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.
Luk 12:8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: Luk 12:8 "And I say to you, everyone who confesses Me before men, the Son of Man will confess him also before the angels of God; Luk 12:8 λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν, πᾶς ὃς ἂν ὁμολογήσῃ ἐν ἐμοὶ ἔμπροσθεν τῶν ἀνθρώπων, καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ὁμολογήσει ἐν αὐτῶ ἔμπροσθεν τῶν ἀγγέλων τοῦ θεοῦ·
Luk 12:9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. Luk 12:9 but he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.
Luk 12:10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. Luk 12:10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him.
Luk 12:11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: Luk 12:11 When they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not worry about how or what you are to speak in your defense, or what you are to say; Luk 12:11 ὅταν δὲ εἰσφέρωσιν ὑμᾶς ἐπὶ τὰς συναγωγὰς καὶ τὰς ἀρχὰς καὶ τὰς ἐξουσίας, μὴ μεριμνήσητε πῶς ἢ τί ἀπολογήσησθε ἢ τί εἴπητε·
Luk 12:12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say. Luk 12:12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."
Luk 12:13 And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. Luk 12:13 Someone in the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me."
Luk 12:14 And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? Luk 12:14 But He said to him, "Man, who appointed Me a judge or arbitrator over you?" Luk 12:14 ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῶ, ἄνθρωπε, τίς με κατέστησεν κριτὴν ἢ μεριστὴν ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς;
Luk 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Luk 12:15 Then He said to them, "Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions."
Luk 12:16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: Luk 12:16 And He told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man was very productive.
Luk 12:17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? Luk 12:17 And he began reasoning to himself, saying, 'What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?' Luk 12:17 καὶ διελογίζετο ἐν ἑαυτῶ λέγων, τί ποιήσω, ὅτι οὐκ ἔχω ποῦ συνάξω τοὺς καρπούς μου;
Luk 12:18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. Luk 12:18 Then he said, 'This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.
Luk 12:19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. Luk 12:19 And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry."'
Luk 12:20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? Luk 12:20 But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?' Luk 12:20 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῶ ὁ θεός, ἄφρων, ταύτῃ τῇ νυκτὶ τὴν ψυχήν σου ἀπαιτοῦσιν ἀπὸ σοῦ· ἃ δὲ ἡτοίμασας, τίνι ἔσται;
Luk 12:21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. Luk 12:21 So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."
Luk 12:22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. Luk 12:22 And He said to His disciples, "For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on.
Luk 12:23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Luk 12:23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.
Luk 12 24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them how much more are ye better than the fowls? Luk 12:24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds!
Luk 12:25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? Luk 12:25 And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life's span? Luk 12:25 τίς δὲ ἐξ ὑμῶν μεριμνῶν δύναται ἐπὶ τὴν ἡλικίαν αὐτοῦ προσθεῖναι πῆχυν;
Luk 12:26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? Luk 12:26 If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters? Luk 12:26 εἰ οὗν οὐδὲ ἐλάχιστον δύνασθε, τί περὶ τῶν λοιπῶν μεριμνᾶτε;
Luk 12:27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Luk 12:27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.
Luk 12:28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? Luk 12:28 But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith!
Luk 12:29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. Luk 12:29 And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying.
Luk 12:30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. Luk 12:30 For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things.
Luk 12:31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Luk 12:31 But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.
Luk 12:32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luk 12:32 Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.
Luk 12:33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. Luk 12:33 "Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys.
Luk 12:34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Luk 12:34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Luk 12:35 Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; Luk 12:35 "Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.
Luk 12:36 And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately. Luk 12:36 Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks.
Luk 12:37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. Luk 12:37 Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them.
Luk 12:38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. Luk 12:38 Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.
Luk 12:39 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Luk 12:39 "But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into.
Luk 12:40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not. Luk 12:40 You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect."
Luk 12:41 Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all? Luk 12:41 Peter said, "Lord, are You addressing this parable to us, or to everyone else as well?" Luk 12:41 εἶπεν δὲ ὁ πέτρος, κύριε, πρὸς ἡμᾶς τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην λέγεις ἢ καὶ πρὸς πάντας;
Luk 12:42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Luk 12:42 And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time? Luk 12:42 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ κύριος, τίς ἄρα ἐστὶν ὁ πιστὸς οἰκονόμος ὁ φρόνιμος, ὃν καταστήσει ὁ κύριος ἐπὶ τῆς θεραπείας αὐτοῦ τοῦ διδόναι ἐν καιρῶ [τὸ] σιτομέτριον;
Luk 12:43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Luk 12:43 Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes.
Luk 12:44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. Luk 12:44 Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions.
Luk 12:45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; Luk 12:45 But if that slave says in his heart, 'My master will be a long time in coming, 'and begins to beat the slaves, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk; Luk 12:45 ἐὰν δὲ εἴπῃ ὁ δοῦλος ἐκεῖνος ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ, χρονίζει ὁ κύριός μου ἔρχεσθαι, καὶ ἄρξηται τύπτειν τοὺς παῖδας καὶ τὰς παιδίσκας, ἐσθίειν τε καὶ πίνειν καὶ μεθύσκεσθαι,
Luk 12:46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. Luk 12:46 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers.
Luk 12:47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. Luk 12:47 And that slave who knew his master's will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will receive many lashes, Luk 12:47 ἐκεῖνος δὲ ὁ δοῦλος ὁ γνοὺς τὸ θέλημα τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ καὶ μὴ ἑτοιμάσας ἢ ποιήσας πρὸς τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ δαρήσεται πολλάς·
Luk 12:48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. Luk 12:48 but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.
Luk 12:49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? Luk 12:49 "I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled!
Luk 12:50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! Luk 12:50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!
Luk 12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: Luk 12:51 Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; Luk 12:51 δοκεῖτε ὅτι εἰρήνην παρεγενόμην δοῦναι ἐν τῇ γῇ; οὐχί, λέγω ὑμῖν, ἀλλ᾽ ἢ διαμερισμόν.
Luk 12:52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. Luk 12:52 for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three.
Luk 12:53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. Luk 12:53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."
Luk 12:54 And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is. Luk 12:54 And He was also saying to the crowds, "When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, 'A shower is coming,' and so it turns out.
Luk 12:55 And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass. Luk 12:55 And when you see a south wind blowing, you say, 'It will be a hot day,' and it turns out that way.
Luk 12:56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time? Luk 12:56 You hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but why do you not analyze this present time? Luk 12:56 ὑποκριταί, τὸ πρόσωπον τῆς γῆς καὶ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ οἴδατε δοκιμάζειν, τὸν καιρὸν δὲ τοῦτον πῶς οὐκ οἴδατε δοκιμάζειν;
Luk 12:57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right? Luk 12:57 "And why do you not even on your own initiative judge what is right? Luk 12:57 τί δὲ καὶ ἀφ᾽ ἑαυτῶν οὐ κρίνετε τὸ δίκαιον;
Luk 12:58 When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison. Luk 12:58 For while you are going with your opponent to appear before the magistrate, on your way there make an effort to settle with him, so that he may not drag you before the judge, and the judge turn you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.
Luk 12:59 I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite. Luk 12:59 I say to you, you will not get out of there until you have paid the very last cent."
