Proverbs 28
Pro 28:1 The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion. Pro 28:1 The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, But the righteous are bold as a lion. Pro 28:1 φεύγει ἀσεβὴς μηδενὸς διώκοντος δίκαιος δὲ ὥσπερ λέων πέποιθεν
Pro 28:2 For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged. Pro 28:2 By the transgression of a land many are its princes, But by a man of understanding and knowledge, so it endures. Pro 28:2 δι᾽ ἁμαρτίας ἀσεβῶν κρίσεις ἐγείρονται ἀνὴρ δὲ πανοῦργος κατασβέσει αὐτάς
Pro 28:3 A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food. Pro 28:3 A poor man who oppresses the lowly Is like a driving rain which leaves no food. Pro 28:3 ἀνδρεῖος ἐν ἀσεβείαις συκοφαντεῖ πτωχούς ὥσπερ ὑετὸς λάβρος καὶ ἀνωφελής
Pro 28:4 They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them. Pro 28:4 Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, But those who keep the law strive with them. Pro 28:4 οὕτως οἱ ἐγκαταλείποντες τὸν νόμον ἐγκωμιάζουσιν ἀσέβειαν οἱ δὲ ἀγαπῶντες τὸν νόμον περιβάλλουσιν ἑαυτοῖς τεῖχος
Pro 28:5 Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things. Pro 28:5 Evil men do not understand justice, But those who seek the Lord understand all things. Pro 28:5 ἄνδρες κακοὶ οὐ νοήσουσιν κρίμα οἱ δὲ ζητοῦντες τὸν κύριον συνήσουσιν ἐν παντί
Pro 28:6 Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich. Pro 28:6 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity Than he who is crooked though he be rich. Pro 28:6 κρείσσων πτωχὸς πορευόμενος ἐν ἀληθείᾳ πλουσίου ψευδοῦς
Pro 28:7 Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father. Pro 28:7 He who keeps the law is a discerning son, But he who is a companion of gluttons humiliates his father. Pro 28:7 φυλάσσει νόμον υἱὸς συνετός ὃς δὲ ποιμαίνει ἀσωτίαν ἀτιμάζει πατέρα
Pro 28:8 He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor. Pro 28:8 He who increases his wealth by interest and usury Gathers it for him who is gracious to the poor. Pro 28:8 ὁ πληθύνων τὸν πλοῦτον αὐτοῦ μετὰ τόκων καὶ πλεονασμῶν τῷ ἐλεῶντι πτωχοὺς συνάγει αὐτόν
Pro 28:9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination. Pro 28:9 He who turns away his ear from listening to the law, Even his prayer is an abomination. Pro 28:9 ὁ ἐκκλίνων τὸ οὖς αὐτοῦ τοῦ μὴ εἰσακοῦσαι νόμου καὶ αὐτὸς τὴν προσευχὴν αὐτοῦ ἐβδέλυκται
Pro 28:10 Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession. Pro 28:10 He who leads the upright astray in an evil way Will himself fall into his own pit, But the blameless will inherit good. Pro 28:10 ὃς πλανᾷ εὐθεῖς ἐν ὁδῷ κακῇ εἰς διαφθορὰν αὐτὸς ἐμπεσεῖται οἱ δὲ ἄνομοι διελεύσονται ἀγαθὰ καὶ οὐκ εἰσελεύσονται εἰς αὐτά
Pro 28:11 The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out. Pro 28:11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes, But the poor who has understanding sees through him. Pro 28:11 σοφὸς παρ᾽ ἑαυτῷ ἀνὴρ πλούσιος πένης δὲ νοήμων καταγνώσεται αὐτοῦ
Pro 28:12 When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden. Pro 28:12 When the righteous triumph, there is great glory, But when the wicked rise, men hide themselves. Pro 28:12 διὰ βοήθειαν δικαίων πολλὴ γίνεται δόξα ἐν δὲ τόποις ἀσεβῶν ἁλίσκονται ἄνθρωποι
Pro 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Pro 28:13 He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion. Pro 28:13 ὁ ἐπικαλύπτων ἀσέβειαν ἑαυτοῦ οὐκ εὐοδωθήσεται ὁ δὲ ἐξηγούμενος ἐλέγχους ἀγαπηθήσεται
Pro 28:14 Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief. Pro 28:14 How blessed is the man who fears always, But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity. Pro 28:14 μακάριος ἀνήρ ὃς καταπτήσσει πάντα δι᾽ εὐλάβειαν ὁ δὲ σκληρὸς τὴν καρδίαν ἐμπεσεῖται κακοῖς
Pro 28:15 As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people. Pro 28:15 Like a roaring lion and a rushing bear Is a wicked ruler over a poor people. Pro 28:15 λέων πεινῶν καὶ λύκος διψῶν ὃς τυραννεῖ πτωχὸς ὢν ἔθνους πενιχροῦ
Pro 28:16 The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days. Pro 28:16 A leader who is a great oppressor lacks understanding, But he who hates unjust gain will prolong his days. Pro 28:16 βασιλεὺς ἐνδεὴς προσόδων μέγας συκοφάντης ὁ δὲ μισῶν ἀδικίαν μακρὸν χρόνον ζήσεται
Pro 28:17 A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him. Pro 28:17 A man who is laden with the guilt of human blood Will be a fugitive until death; let no one support him. Pro 28:17 ἄνδρα τὸν ἐν αἰτίᾳ φόνου ὁ ἐγγυώμενος φυγὰς ἔσται καὶ οὐκ ἐν ἀσφαλείᾳ ~ παίδευε υἱόν καὶ ἀγαπήσει σε καὶ δώσει κόσμον τῇ σῇ ψυχῇ οὐ μὴ ὑπακούσῃς ἔθνει παρανόμῳ
Pro 28:18 Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once. Pro 28:18 He who walks blamelessly will be delivered, But he who is crooked will fall all at once. Pro 28:18 ὁ πορευόμενος δικαίως βεβοήθηται ὁ δὲ σκολιαῖς ὁδοῖς πορευόμενος ἐμπλακήσεται
Pro 28:19 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough. Pro 28:19 He who tills his land will have plenty of food, But he who follows empty pursuits will have poverty in plenty. Pro 28:19 ὁ ἐργαζόμενος τὴν ἑαυτοῦ γῆν πλησθήσεται ἄρτων ὁ δὲ διώκων σχολὴν πλησθήσεται πενίας
Pro 28:20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent. Pro 28:20 A faithful man will abound with blessings, But he who makes haste to be rich will not go unpunished. Pro 28:20 ἀνὴρ ἀξιόπιστος πολλὰ εὐλογηθήσεται ὁ δὲ κακὸς οὐκ ἀτιμώρητος ἔσται
Pro 28:21 To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress. Pro 28:21 To show partiality is not good, Because for a piece of bread a man will transgress. Pro 28:21 ὃς οὐκ αἰσχύνεται πρόσωπα δικαίων οὐκ ἀγαθός ὁ τοιοῦτος ψωμοῦ ἄρτου ἀποδώσεται ἄνδρα
Pro 28:22 He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him. Pro 28:22 A man with an evil eye hastens after wealth And does not know that want will come upon him. Pro 28:22 σπεύδει πλουτεῖν ἀνὴρ βάσκανος καὶ οὐκ οἶδεν ὅτι ἐλεήμων κρατήσει αὐτοῦ
Pro 28:23 He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue. Pro 28:23 He who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor Than he who flatters with the tongue. Pro 28:23 ὁ ἐλέγχων ἀνθρώπου ὁδοὺς χάριτας ἕξει μᾶλλον τοῦ γλωσσοχαριτοῦντος
Pro 28:24 Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer. Pro 28:24 He who robs his father or his mother And says, "It is not a transgression," Is the companion of a man who destroys. Pro 28:24 ὃς ἀποβάλλεται πατέρα ἢ μητέρα καὶ δοκεῖ μὴ ἁμαρτάνειν οὗτος κοινωνός ἐστιν ἀνδρὸς ἀσεβοῦς
Pro 28:25 He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat. Pro 28:25 An arrogant man stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the Lord will prosper. Pro 28:25 ἄπληστος ἀνὴρ κρίνει εἰκῇ ὃς δὲ πέποιθεν ἐπὶ κύριον ἐν ἐπιμελείᾳ ἔσται
Pro 28:26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered. Pro 28:26 He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But he who walks wisely will be delivered. Pro 28:26 ὃς πέποιθεν θρασείᾳ καρδίᾳ ὁ τοιοῦτος ἄφρων ὃς δὲ πορεύεται σοφίᾳ σωθήσεται
Pro 28:27 He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse. Pro 28:27 He who gives to the poor will never want, But he who shuts his eyes will have many curses. Pro 28:27 ὃς δίδωσιν πτωχοῖς οὐκ ἐνδεηθήσεται ὃς δὲ ἀποστρέφει τὸν ὀφθαλμὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν πολλῇ ἀπορίᾳ ἔσται
