Luke 24
Luk 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. Luk 24:1 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. Luk 24:1 τῇ δὲ μιᾷ τῶν σαββάτων ὄρθρου βαθέως ἐπὶ τὸ μνῆμα ἦλθον φέρουσαι ἃ ἡτοίμασαν ἀρώματα.
Luk 24:2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. Luk 24:2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, Luk 24:2 εὖρον δὲ τὸν λίθον ἀποκεκυλισμένον ἀπὸ τοῦ μνημείου,

Luk 24:4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: Luk 24:4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing; Luk 24:4 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ ἀπορεῖσθαι αὐτὰς περὶ τούτου καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνδρες δύο ἐπέστησαν αὐταῖς ἐν ἐσθῆτι ἀστραπτούσῃ.
Luk 24:5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? Luk 24:5 and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you seek the living One among the dead? Luk 24:5 ἐμφόβων δὲ γενομένων αὐτῶν καὶ κλινουσῶν τὰ πρόσωπα εἰς τὴν γῆν εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτάς, τί ζητεῖτε τὸν ζῶντα μετὰ τῶν νεκρῶν;
Luk 24:6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Luk 24:6 He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, Luk 24:6 οὐκ ἔστιν ὧδε, ἀλλὰ ἠγέρθη. μνήσθητε ὡς ἐλάλησεν ὑμῖν ἔτι ὢν ἐν τῇ γαλιλαίᾳ,
Luk 24:7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. Luk 24:9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. Luk 24:10 It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. Luk 24:10 ἦσαν δὲ ἡ μαγδαληνὴ μαρία καὶ ἰωάννα καὶ μαρία ἡ ἰακώβου· καὶ αἱ λοιπαὶ σὺν αὐταῖς ἔλεγον πρὸς τοὺς ἀποστόλους ταῦτα.
Luk 24:11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. Luk 24:11 But these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them. Luk 24:11 καὶ ἐφάνησαν ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν ὡσεὶ λῆρος τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα, καὶ ἠπίστουν αὐταῖς.
Luk 24:12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass. Luk 24:12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he *saw the linen wrappings only; and he went away to his home, marveling at what had happened. Luk 24:12 ὁ δὲ πέτρος ἀναστὰς ἔδραμεν ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον, καὶ παρακύψας βλέπει τὰ ὀθόνια μόνα· καὶ ἀπῆλθεν πρὸς ἑαυτὸν θαυμάζων τὸ γεγονός.
Luk 24:13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. Luk 24:13 καὶ ἰδοὺ δύο ἐξ αὐτῶν ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἦσαν πορευόμενοι εἰς κώμην ἀπέχουσαν σταδίους ἑξήκοντα ἀπὸ ἰερουσαλήμ, ᾗ ὄνομα ἐμμαοῦς,
Luk 24:14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. Luk 24:14 And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place. Luk 24:14 καὶ αὐτοὶ ὡμίλουν πρὸς ἀλλήλους περὶ πάντων τῶν συμβεβηκότων τούτων.
Luk 24:15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. Luk 24:15 While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them. Luk 24:15 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ ὁμιλεῖν αὐτοὺς καὶ συζητεῖν καὶ αὐτὸς ἰησοῦς ἐγγίσας συνεπορεύετο αὐτοῖς,
Luk 24:16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. Luk 24:16 But their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him. Luk 24:16 οἱ δὲ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτῶν ἐκρατοῦντο τοῦ μὴ ἐπιγνῶναι αὐτόν.
Luk 24:17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? Luk 24:17 And He said to them, "What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?" And they stood still, looking sad. Luk 24:17 εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς, τίνες οἱ λόγοι οὖτοι οὓς ἀντιβάλλετε πρὸς ἀλλήλους περιπατοῦντες; καὶ ἐστάθησαν σκυθρωποί.
Luk 24:18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? Luk 24:18 One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, "Are You the only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in these days?" Luk 24:18 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἷς ὀνόματι κλεοπᾶς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν, σὺ μόνος παροικεῖς ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ οὐκ ἔγνως τὰ γενόμενα ἐν αὐτῇ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ταύταις;
Luk 24:19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: Luk 24:19 And He said to them, "What things?" And they said to Him, "The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people, Luk 24:19 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ποῖα; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῶ, τὰ περὶ ἰησοῦ τοῦ ναζαρηνοῦ, ὃς ἐγένετο ἀνὴρ προφήτης δυνατὸς ἐν ἔργῳ καὶ λόγῳ ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ,
Luk 24:20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. Luk 24:20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him. Luk 24:20 ὅπως τε παρέδωκαν αὐτὸν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες ἡμῶν εἰς κρίμα θανάτου καὶ ἐσταύρωσαν αὐτόν.
Luk 24:21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. Luk 24:21 But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened. Luk 24:21 ἡμεῖς δὲ ἠλπίζομεν ὅτι αὐτός ἐστιν ὁ μέλλων λυτροῦσθαι τὸν ἰσραήλ· ἀλλά γε καὶ σὺν πᾶσιν τούτοις τρίτην ταύτην ἡμέραν ἄγει ἀφ᾽ οὖ ταῦτα ἐγένετο.
Luk 24:22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; Luk 24:22 But also some women among us amazed us. When they were at the tomb early in the morning, Luk 24:22 ἀλλὰ καὶ γυναῖκές τινες ἐξ ἡμῶν ἐξέστησαν ἡμᾶς· γενόμεναι ὀρθριναὶ ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον
Luk 24:23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. Luk 24:23 καὶ μὴ εὑροῦσαι τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ ἦλθον λέγουσαι καὶ ὀπτασίαν ἀγγέλων ἑωρακέναι, οἳ λέγουσιν αὐτὸν ζῆν.
Luk 24:24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not. Luk 24:24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see." Luk 24:24 καὶ ἀπῆλθόν τινες τῶν σὺν ἡμῖν ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον, καὶ εὖρον οὕτως καθὼς καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες εἶπον, αὐτὸν δὲ οὐκ εἶδον.
Luk 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Luk 24:25 And He said to them, "O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Luk 24:25 καὶ αὐτὸς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, ὦ ἀνόητοι καὶ βραδεῖς τῇ καρδίᾳ τοῦ πιστεύειν ἐπὶ πᾶσιν οἷς ἐλάλησαν οἱ προφῆται·
Luk 24:26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? Luk 24:26 Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?" Luk 24:26 οὐχὶ ταῦτα ἔδει παθεῖν τὸν χριστὸν καὶ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ;
Luk 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. Luk 24:27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. Luk 24:27 καὶ ἀρξάμενος ἀπὸ μωϊσέως καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν προφητῶν διερμήνευσεν αὐτοῖς ἐν πάσαις ταῖς γραφαῖς τὰ περὶ ἑαυτοῦ.
Luk 24:28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. Luk 24:28 And they approached the village where they were going, and He acted as though He were going farther. Luk 24:28 καὶ ἤγγισαν εἰς τὴν κώμην οὖ ἐπορεύοντο, καὶ αὐτὸς προσεποιήσατο πορρώτερον πορεύεσθαι.
Luk 24:29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. Luk 24:29 But they urged Him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is now nearly over." So He went in to stay with them. Luk 24:29 καὶ παρεβιάσαντο αὐτὸν λέγοντες, μεῖνον μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν, ὅτι πρὸς ἑσπέραν ἐστὶν καὶ κέκλικεν ἤδη ἡ ἡμέρα. καὶ εἰσῆλθεν τοῦ μεῖναι σὺν αὐτοῖς.
Luk 24:30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. Luk 24:30 When He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them. Luk 24:30 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ κατακλιθῆναι αὐτὸν μετ᾽ αὐτῶν λαβὼν τὸν ἄρτον εὐλόγησεν καὶ κλάσας ἐπεδίδου αὐτοῖς·
Luk 24:31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. Luk 24:31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. Luk 24:31 αὐτῶν δὲ διηνοίχθησαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ καὶ ἐπέγνωσαν αὐτόν· καὶ αὐτὸς ἄφαντος ἐγένετο ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν.
Luk 24:32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? Luk 24:32 They said to one another, "Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?" Luk 24:32 καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς ἀλλήλους, οὐχὶ ἡ καρδία ἡμῶν καιομένη ἦν [ἐν ἡμῖν] ὡς ἐλάλει ἡμῖν ἐν τῇ ὁδῶ, ὡς διήνοιγεν ἡμῖν τὰς γραφάς;
Luk 24:33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, Luk 24:33 And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found gathered together the eleven and those who were with them, Luk 24:33 καὶ ἀναστάντες αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς ἰερουσαλήμ, καὶ εὖρον ἠθροισμένους τοὺς ἕνδεκα καὶ τοὺς σὺν αὐτοῖς,
Luk 24:34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. Luk 24:34 saying, "The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simon." Luk 24:34 λέγοντας ὅτι ὄντως ἠγέρθη ὁ κύριος καὶ ὤφθη σίμωνι.
Luk 24:35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread. Luk 24:35 They began to relate their experiences on the road and how He was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread. Luk 24:35 καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐξηγοῦντο τὰ ἐν τῇ ὁδῶ καὶ ὡς ἐγνώσθη αὐτοῖς ἐν τῇ κλάσει τοῦ ἄρτου.
Luk 24:36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. Luk 24:36 While they were telling these things, He Himself stood in their midst and *said to them, "Peace be to you." Luk 24:36 ταῦτα δὲ αὐτῶν λαλούντων αὐτὸς ἔστη ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς, εἰρήνη ὑμῖν.
Luk 24:37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. Luk 24:37 But they were startled and frightened and thought that they were seeing a spirit. Luk 24:37 πτοηθέντες δὲ καὶ ἔμφοβοι γενόμενοι ἐδόκουν πνεῦμα θεωρεῖν.
Luk 24:38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Luk 24:38 And He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Luk 24:38 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, τί τεταραγμένοι ἐστέ, καὶ διὰ τί διαλογισμοὶ ἀναβαίνουσιν ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ ὑμῶν;
Luk 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. Luk 24:39 See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." Luk 24:39 ἴδετε τὰς χεῖράς μου καὶ τοὺς πόδας μου ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι αὐτός· ψηλαφήσατέ με καὶ ἴδετε, ὅτι πνεῦμα σάρκα καὶ ὀστέα οὐκ ἔχει καθὼς ἐμὲ θεωρεῖτε ἔχοντα.
Luk 24:40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. Luk 24:40 And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. Luk 24:40 καὶ τοῦτο εἰπὼν ἔδειξεν αὐτοῖς τὰς χεῖρας καὶ τοὺς πόδας.
Luk 24:41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? Luk 24:41 While they still could not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?" Luk 24:41 ἔτι δὲ ἀπιστούντων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῆς χαρᾶς καὶ θαυμαζόντων εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ἔχετέ τι βρώσιμον ἐνθάδε;
Luk 24:42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. Luk 24:42 They gave Him a piece of a broiled fish; Luk 24:42 οἱ δὲ ἐπέδωκαν αὐτῶ ἰχθύος ὀπτοῦ μέρος·
Luk 24:43 And he took it, and did eat before them. Luk 24:43 and He took it and ate it before them. Luk 24:43 καὶ λαβὼν ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν ἔφαγεν.
Luk 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Luk 24:44 Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." Luk 24:44 εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς, οὖτοι οἱ λόγοι μου οὓς ἐλάλησα πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἔτι ὢν σὺν ὑμῖν, ὅτι δεῖ πληρωθῆναι πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν τῶ νόμῳ μωϊσέως καὶ τοῖς προφήταις καὶ ψαλμοῖς περὶ ἐμοῦ.
Luk 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, Luk 24:45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, Luk 24:45 τότε διήνοιξεν αὐτῶν τὸν νοῦν τοῦ συνιέναι τὰς γραφάς.
Luk 24:46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: Luk 24:46 and He said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, Luk 24:46 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι οὕτως γέγραπται παθεῖν τὸν χριστὸν καὶ ἀναστῆναι ἐκ νεκρῶν τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ,
Luk 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Luk 24:47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. Luk 24:47 καὶ κηρυχθῆναι ἐπὶ τῶ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ μετάνοιαν εἰς ἄφεσιν ἁμαρτιῶν εἰς πάντα τὰ ἔθνη _ ἀρξάμενοι ἀπὸ ἰερουσαλήμ·
Luk 24:48 And ye are witnesses of these things. Luk 24:48 You are witnesses of these things. Luk 24:48 ὑμεῖς μάρτυρες τούτων.
Luk 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. Luk 24:49 And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high." Luk 24:49 καὶ [ἰδοὺ] ἐγὼ ἀποστέλλω τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν τοῦ πατρός μου ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς· ὑμεῖς δὲ καθίσατε ἐν τῇ πόλει ἕως οὖ ἐνδύσησθε ἐξ ὕψους δύναμιν.
Luk 24:50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. Luk 24:50 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. Luk 24:50 ἐξήγαγεν δὲ αὐτοὺς [ἔξω] ἕως πρὸς βηθανίαν, καὶ ἐπάρας τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ εὐλόγησεν αὐτούς.
Luk 24:51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. Luk 24:51 While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven. Luk 24:51 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ εὐλογεῖν αὐτὸν αὐτοὺς διέστη ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν καὶ ἀνεφέρετο εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν.
Luk 24:52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: Luk 24:52 And they, after worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy, Luk 24:52 καὶ αὐτοὶ προσκυνήσαντες αὐτὸν ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς ἰερουσαλὴμ μετὰ χαρᾶς μεγάλης,
Luk 24:53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. Luk 24:53 and were continually in the temple praising God. Luk 24:53 καὶ ἦσαν διὰ παντὸς ἐν τῶ ἱερῶ εὐλογοῦντες τὸν θεόν.
