Day - 325 - Acts 22-23
Act 22:1 Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you. Act 22:1 "Brethren and fathers, hear my defense which I now offer to you." Act|22|1|ἄνδρες ἀδελφοὶ καὶ πατέρες, ἀκούσατέ μου τῆς πρὸς ὑμᾶς νυνὶ ἀπολογίας _
Act 22:2 (And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,) Act 22:2 And when they heard that he was addressing them in the Hebrew dialect, they became even more quiet; and he *said, Act|22|2|ἀκούσαντες δὲ ὅτι τῇ ἑβραΐδι διαλέκτῳ προσεφώνει αὐτοῖς μᾶλλον παρέσχον ἡσυχίαν. καὶ φησίν _
Act 22:3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day. Act 22:3 "I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated under Gamaliel, strictly according to the law of our fathers, being zealous for God just as you all are today. Act|22|3|ἐγώ εἰμι ἀνὴρ ἰουδαῖος, γεγεννημένος ἐν ταρσῶ τῆς κιλικίας, ἀνατεθραμμένος δὲ ἐν τῇ πόλει ταύτῃ, παρὰ τοὺς πόδας γαμαλιὴλ πεπαιδευμένος κατὰ ἀκρίβειαν τοῦ πατρῴου νόμου, ζηλωτὴς ὑπάρχων τοῦ θεοῦ καθὼς πάντες ὑμεῖς ἐστε σήμερον·
Act 22:4 And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women. Act 22:5 As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished. Act 22:5 as also the high priest and all the Council of the elders can testify. From them I also received letters to the brethren, and started off for Damascus in order to bring even those who were there to Jerusalem as prisoners to be punished. Act|22|5|ὡς καὶ ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς μαρτυρεῖ μοι καὶ πᾶν τὸ πρεσβυτέριον· παρ᾽ ὧν καὶ ἐπιστολὰς δεξάμενος πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς εἰς δαμασκὸν ἐπορευόμην ἄξων καὶ τοὺς ἐκεῖσε ὄντας δεδεμένους εἰς ἰερουσαλὴμ ἵνα τιμωρηθῶσιν.
Act 22:6 And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me. Act 22:6 "But it happened that as I was on my way, approaching Damascus about noontime, a very bright light suddenly flashed from heaven all around me, Act|22|6|ἐγένετο δέ μοι πορευομένῳ καὶ ἐγγίζοντι τῇ δαμασκῶ περὶ μεσημβρίαν ἐξαίφνης ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ περιαστράψαι φῶς ἱκανὸν περὶ ἐμέ,
Act 22:7 And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? Act 22:7 and I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? ' Act|22|7|ἔπεσά τε εἰς τὸ ἔδαφος καὶ ἤκουσα φωνῆς λεγούσης μοι, σαοὺλ σαούλ, τί με διώκεις;
Act 22:8 And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest. Act 22:8 And I answered, 'Who are You, Lord? 'And He said to me, 'I am Jesus the Nazarene, whom you are persecuting. ' Act|22|8|ἐγὼ δὲ ἀπεκρίθην, τίς εἶ, κύριε; εἶπέν τε πρός με, ἐγώ εἰμι ἰησοῦς ὁ ναζωραῖος ὃν σὺ διώκεις.
Act 22:9 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me. Act 22:9 And those who were with me saw the light, to be sure, but did not understand the voice of the One who was speaking to me. Act|22|9|οἱ δὲ σὺν ἐμοὶ ὄντες τὸ μὲν φῶς ἐθεάσαντο τὴν δὲ φωνὴν οὐκ ἤκουσαν τοῦ λαλοῦντός μοι.
Act 22:10 And I said, What shall I do, LORD? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do. Act 22:10 And I said, 'What shall I do, Lord? 'And the Lord said to me, 'Get up and go on into Damascus, and there you will be told of all that has been appointed for you to do. ' Act|22|10|εἶπον δέ, τί ποιήσω, κύριε; ὁ δὲ κύριος εἶπεν πρός με, ἀναστὰς πορεύου εἰς δαμασκόν, κἀκεῖ σοι λαληθήσεται περὶ πάντων ὧν τέτακταί σοι ποιῆσαι.
Act 22:11 And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus. Act 22:11 But since I could not see because of the brightness of that light, I was led by the hand by those who were with me and came into Damascus. Act|22|11|ὡς δὲ οὐκ ἐνέβλεπον ἀπὸ τῆς δόξης τοῦ φωτὸς ἐκείνου, χειραγωγούμενος ὑπὸ τῶν συνόντων μοι ἦλθον εἰς δαμασκόν.
Act 22:12 And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there, Act 22:12 "A certain Ananias, a man who was devout by the standard of the Law, and well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there, Act|22|12|ἁνανίας δέ τις, ἀνὴρ εὐλαβὴς κατὰ τὸν νόμον, μαρτυρούμενος ὑπὸ πάντων τῶν κατοικούντων ἰουδαίων,
Act 22:13 Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him. Act 22:13 came to me, and standing near said to me, 'Brother Saul, receive your sight! 'And at that very time I looked up at him. Act|22|13|ἐλθὼν πρός με καὶ ἐπιστὰς εἶπέν μοι, σαοὺλ ἀδελφέ, ἀνάβλεψον· κἀγὼ αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ ἀνέβλεψα εἰς αὐτόν.
Act 22:14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. Act 22:14 And he said, 'The God of our fathers has appointed you to know His will and to see the Righteous One and to hear an utterance from His mouth. Act|22|14|ὁ δὲ εἶπεν, ὁ θεὸς τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν προεχειρίσατό σε γνῶναι τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἰδεῖν τὸν δίκαιον καὶ ἀκοῦσαι φωνὴν ἐκ τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ,
Act 22:15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard. Act 22:15 For you will be a witness for Him to all men of what you have seen and heard. Act|22|15|ὅτι ἔσῃ μάρτυς αὐτῶ πρὸς πάντας ἀνθρώπους ὧν ἑώρακας καὶ ἤκουσας.
Act 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Act 22:16 Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name. ' Act|22|16|καὶ νῦν τί μέλλεις; ἀναστὰς βάπτισαι καὶ ἀπόλουσαι τὰς ἁμαρτίας σου ἐπικαλεσάμενος τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ.
Act 22:17 And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance; Act 22:17 "It happened when I returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, that I fell into a trance, Act|22|17|ἐγένετο δέ μοι ὑποστρέψαντι εἰς ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ προσευχομένου μου ἐν τῶ ἱερῶ γενέσθαι με ἐν ἐκστάσει
Act 22:18 And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me. Act 22:18 and I saw Him saying to me, 'Make haste, and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about Me. ' Act|22|18|καὶ ἰδεῖν αὐτὸν λέγοντά μοι, σπεῦσον καὶ ἔξελθε ἐν τάχει ἐξ ἰερουσαλήμ, διότι οὐ παραδέξονταί σου μαρτυρίαν περὶ ἐμοῦ.
Act 22:19 And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee: Act 22:19 And I said, 'Lord, they themselves understand that in one synagogue after another I used to imprison and beat those who believed in You. Act|22|19|κἀγὼ εἶπον, κύριε, αὐτοὶ ἐπίστανται ὅτι ἐγὼ ἤμην φυλακίζων καὶ δέρων κατὰ τὰς συναγωγὰς τοὺς πιστεύοντας ἐπὶ σέ·
Act 22:20 And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him. Act 22:20 And when the blood of Your witness Stephen was being shed, I also was standing by approving, and watching out for the coats of those who were slaying him. ' Act|22|20|καὶ ὅτε ἐξεχύννετο τὸ αἷμα στεφάνου τοῦ μάρτυρός σου, καὶ αὐτὸς ἤμην ἐφεστὼς καὶ συνευδοκῶν καὶ φυλάσσων τὰ ἱμάτια τῶν ἀναιρούντων αὐτόν.
Act 22:21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles. Act 22:21 And He said to me, 'Go! For I will send you far away to the Gentiles. '" Act|22|21|καὶ εἶπεν πρός με, πορεύου, ὅτι ἐγὼ εἰς ἔθνη μακρὰν ἐξαποστελῶ σε.
Act 22:22 And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live. Act 22:22 They listened to him up to this statement, and then they raised their voices and said," Away with such a fellow from the earth, for he should not be allowed to live!" Act|22|22|ἤκουον δὲ αὐτοῦ ἄχρι τούτου τοῦ λόγου καὶ ἐπῆραν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτῶν λέγοντες, αἶρε ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς τὸν τοιοῦτον, οὐ γὰρ καθῆκεν αὐτὸν ζῆν.
Act 22:23 And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air, Act 22:23 And as they were crying out and throwing off their cloaks and tossing dust into the air, Act|22|23|κραυγαζόντων τε αὐτῶν καὶ ῥιπτούντων τὰ ἱμάτια καὶ κονιορτὸν βαλλόντων εἰς τὸν ἀέρα,
Act 22:24 The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him. Act 22:24 the commander ordered him to be brought into the barracks, stating that he should be examined by scourging so that he might find out the reason why they were shouting against him that way. Act|22|24|ἐκέλευσεν ὁ χιλίαρχος εἰσάγεσθαι αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν, εἴπας μάστιξιν ἀνετάζεσθαι αὐτὸν ἵνα ἐπιγνῶ δι᾽ ἣν αἰτίαν οὕτως ἐπεφώνουν αὐτῶ.
Act 22:25 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned? Act 22:25 But when they stretched him out with thongs, Paul said to the centurion who was standing by," Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman and uncondemned?" Act|22|25|ὡς δὲ προέτειναν αὐτὸν τοῖς ἱμᾶσιν εἶπεν πρὸς τὸν ἑστῶτα ἑκατόνταρχον ὁ παῦλος, εἰ ἄνθρωπον ῥωμαῖον καὶ ἀκατάκριτον ἔξεστιν ὑμῖν μαστίζειν;
Act 22:26 When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman. Act 22:26 When the centurion heard this, he went to the commander and told him, saying," What are you about to do? For this man is a Roman." Act|22|26|ἀκούσας δὲ ὁ ἑκατοντάρχης προσελθὼν τῶ χιλιάρχῳ ἀπήγγειλεν λέγων, τί μέλλεις ποιεῖν; ὁ γὰρ ἄνθρωπος οὖτος ῥωμαῖός ἐστιν.
Act 22:27 Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea. Act 22:27 The commander came and said to him," Tell me, are you a Roman?" And he said," Yes." Act|22|27|προσελθὼν δὲ ὁ χιλίαρχος εἶπεν αὐτῶ, λέγε μοι, σὺ ῥωμαῖος εἶ; ὁ δὲ ἔφη, ναί.
Act 22:28 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born. Act 22:28 The commander answered," I acquired this citizenship with a large sum of money." And Paul said," But I was actually born a citizen." Act|22|28|ἀπεκρίθη δὲ ὁ χιλίαρχος, ἐγὼ πολλοῦ κεφαλαίου τὴν πολιτείαν ταύτην ἐκτησάμην. ὁ δὲ παῦλος ἔφη, ἐγὼ δὲ καὶ γεγέννημαι.
Act 22:29 Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him. Act 22:29 Therefore those who were about to examine him immediately let go of him; and the commander also was afraid when he found out that he was a Roman, and because he had put him in chains. Act|22|29|εὐθέως οὗν ἀπέστησαν ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ οἱ μέλλοντες αὐτὸν ἀνετάζειν· καὶ ὁ χιλίαρχος δὲ ἐφοβήθη ἐπιγνοὺς ὅτι ῥωμαῖός ἐστιν καὶ ὅτι αὐτὸν ἦν δεδεκώς.
Act 22:30 On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them. Act 22:30 But on the next day, wishing to know for certain why he had been accused by the Jews, he released him and ordered the chief priests and all the Council to assemble, and brought Paul down and set him before them. Act|22|30|τῇ δὲ ἐπαύριον βουλόμενος γνῶναι τὸ ἀσφαλὲς τὸ τί κατηγορεῖται ὑπὸ τῶν ἰουδαίων ἔλυσεν αὐτόν, καὶ ἐκέλευσεν συνελθεῖν τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ πᾶν τὸ συνέδριον, καὶ καταγαγὼν τὸν παῦλον ἔστησεν εἰς αὐτούς.
Act 23:1 And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day. Act 23:1 Paul, looking intently at the Council, said," Brethren, I have lived my life with a perfectly good conscience before God up to this day." Act|23|1|ἀτενίσας δὲ ὁ παῦλος τῶ συνεδρίῳ εἶπεν, ἄνδρες ἀδελφοί, ἐγὼ πάσῃ συνειδήσει ἀγαθῇ πεπολίτευμαι τῶ θεῶ ἄχρι ταύτης τῆς ἡμέρας.
Act 23:2 And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth. Act 23:2 The high priest Ananias commanded those standing beside him to strike him on the mouth. Act|23|2|ὁ δὲ ἀρχιερεὺς ἁνανίας ἐπέταξεν τοῖς παρεστῶσιν αὐτῶ τύπτειν αὐτοῦ τὸ στόμα.
Act 23:3 Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law? Act 23:3 Then Paul said to him," God is going to strike you, you whitewashed wall! Do you sit to try me according to the Law, and in violation of the Law order me to be struck?" Act|23|3|τότε ὁ παῦλος πρὸς αὐτὸν εἶπεν, τύπτειν σε μέλλει ὁ θεός, τοῖχε κεκονιαμένε· καὶ σὺ κάθῃ κρίνων με κατὰ τὸν νόμον, καὶ παρανομῶν κελεύεις με τύπτεσθαι;
Act 23:4 And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest? Act 23:4 But the bystanders said," Do you revile God's high priest?" Act|23|4|οἱ δὲ παρεστῶτες εἶπαν, τὸν ἀρχιερέα τοῦ θεοῦ λοιδορεῖς;
Act 23:5 Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people. Act 23:5 And Paul said," I was not aware, brethren, that he was high priest; for it is written, 'You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people. '" Act|23|5|ἔφη τε ὁ παῦλος, οὐκ ᾔδειν, ἀδελφοί, ὅτι ἐστὶν ἀρχιερεύς· γέγραπται γὰρ ὅτι ἄρχοντα τοῦ λαοῦ σου οὐκ ἐρεῖς κακῶς.
Act 23:6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question. Act 23:6 But perceiving that one group were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, Paul began crying out in the Council," Brethren, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees; I am on trial for the hope and resurrection of the dead!" Act|23|6|γνοὺς δὲ ὁ παῦλος ὅτι τὸ ἓν μέρος ἐστὶν σαδδουκαίων τὸ δὲ ἕτερον φαρισαίων ἔκραζεν ἐν τῶ συνεδρίῳ, ἄνδρες ἀδελφοί, ἐγὼ φαρισαῖός εἰμι, υἱὸς φαρισαίων· περὶ ἐλπίδος καὶ ἀναστάσεως νεκρῶν [ἐγὼ] κρίνομαι.
Act 23:7 And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided. Act 23:7 As he said this, there occurred a dissension between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. Act|23|7|τοῦτο δὲ αὐτοῦ εἰπόντος ἐγένετο στάσις τῶν φαρισαίων καὶ σαδδουκαίων, καὶ ἐσχίσθη τὸ πλῆθος.
Act 23:8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both. Act 23:8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor an angel, nor a spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all. Act|23|8|σαδδουκαῖοι μὲν γὰρ λέγουσιν μὴ εἶναι ἀνάστασιν μήτε ἄγγελον μήτε πνεῦμα, φαρισαῖοι δὲ ὁμολογοῦσιν τὰ ἀμφότερα.
Act 23:9 And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees' part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God. Act 23:9 And there occurred a great uproar; and some of the scribes of the Pharisaic party stood up and began to argue heatedly, saying," We find nothing wrong with this man; suppose a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?" Act|23|9|ἐγένετο δὲ κραυγὴ μεγάλη, καὶ ἀναστάντες τινὲς τῶν γραμματέων τοῦ μέρους τῶν φαρισαίων διεμάχοντο λέγοντες, οὐδὲν κακὸν εὑρίσκομεν ἐν τῶ ἀνθρώπῳ τούτῳ· εἰ δὲ πνεῦμα ἐλάλησεν αὐτῶ ἢ ἄγγελος _
Act 23:10 And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle. Act 23:10 And as a great dissension was developing, the commander was afraid Paul would be torn to pieces by them and ordered the troops to go down and take him away from them by force, and bring him into the barracks. Act|23|10|πολλῆς δὲ γινομένης στάσεως φοβηθεὶς ὁ χιλίαρχος μὴ διασπασθῇ ὁ παῦλος ὑπ᾽ αὐτῶν ἐκέλευσεν τὸ στράτευμα καταβὰν ἁρπάσαι αὐτὸν ἐκ μέσου αὐτῶν, ἄγειν τε εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν.
Act 23:11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome. Act 23:11 But on the night immediately following, the Lord stood at his side and said," Take courage; for as you have solemnly witnessed to My cause at Jerusalem, so you must witness at Rome also." Act|23|11|τῇ δὲ ἐπιούσῃ νυκτὶ ἐπιστὰς αὐτῶ ὁ κύριος εἶπεν, θάρσει, ὡς γὰρ διεμαρτύρω τὰ περὶ ἐμοῦ εἰς ἰερουσαλὴμ οὕτω σε δεῖ καὶ εἰς ῥώμην μαρτυρῆσαι.
Act 23:12 And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. Act 23:12 When it was day, the Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves under an oath, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul. Act|23|12|γενομένης δὲ ἡμέρας ποιήσαντες συστροφὴν οἱ ἰουδαῖοι ἀνεθεμάτισαν ἑαυτοὺς λέγοντες μήτε φαγεῖν μήτε πίειν ἕως οὖ ἀποκτείνωσιν τὸν παῦλον.
Act 23:13 And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy. Act 23:13 There were more than forty who formed this plot. Act|23|13|ἦσαν δὲ πλείους τεσσεράκοντα οἱ ταύτην τὴν συνωμοσίαν ποιησάμενοι·
Act 23:14 And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul. Act 23:14 They came to the chief priests and the elders and said," We have bound ourselves under a solemn oath to taste nothing until we have killed Paul. Act|23|14|οἵτινες προσελθόντες τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσιν καὶ τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις εἶπαν, ἀναθέματι ἀνεθεματίσαμεν ἑαυτοὺς μηδενὸς γεύσασθαι ἕως οὖ ἀποκτείνωμεν τὸν παῦλον.
Act 23:15 Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him. Act 23:15 Now therefore, you and the Council notify the commander to bring him down to you, as though you were going to determine his case by a more thorough investigation; and we for our part are ready to slay him before he comes near the place." Act|23|15|νῦν οὗν ὑμεῖς ἐμφανίσατε τῶ χιλιάρχῳ σὺν τῶ συνεδρίῳ ὅπως καταγάγῃ αὐτὸν εἰς ὑμᾶς ὡς μέλλοντας διαγινώσκειν ἀκριβέστερον τὰ περὶ αὐτοῦ· ἡμεῖς δὲ πρὸ τοῦ ἐγγίσαι αὐτὸν ἕτοιμοί ἐσμεν τοῦ ἀνελεῖν αὐτόν.
Act 23:16 And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul. Act 23:16 But the son of Paul's sister heard of their ambush, and he came and entered the barracks and told Paul. Act|23|16|ἀκούσας δὲ ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀδελφῆς παύλου τὴν ἐνέδραν παραγενόμενος καὶ εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν ἀπήγγειλεν τῶ παύλῳ.
Act 23:17 Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him. Act 23:17 Paul called one of the centurions to him and said," Lead this young man to the commander, for he has something to report to him." Act|23|17|προσκαλεσάμενος δὲ ὁ παῦλος ἕνα τῶν ἑκατονταρχῶν ἔφη, τὸν νεανίαν τοῦτον ἀπάγαγε πρὸς τὸν χιλίαρχον, ἔχει γὰρ ἀπαγγεῖλαί τι αὐτῶ.
Act 23:18 So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee. Act 23:18 So he took him and led him to the commander and *said," Paul the prisoner called me to him and asked me to lead this young man to you since he has something to tell you." Act|23|18|ὁ μὲν οὗν παραλαβὼν αὐτὸν ἤγαγεν πρὸς τὸν χιλίαρχον καὶ φησίν, ὁ δέσμιος παῦλος προσκαλεσάμενός με ἠρώτησεν τοῦτον τὸν νεανίσκον ἀγαγεῖν πρὸς σέ, ἔχοντά τι λαλῆσαί σοι.
Act 23:19 Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me? Act 23:19 The commander took him by the hand and stepping aside, began to inquire of him privately," What is it that you have to report to me?" Act|23|19|ἐπιλαβόμενος δὲ τῆς χειρὸς αὐτοῦ ὁ χιλίαρχος καὶ ἀναχωρήσας κατ᾽ ἰδίαν ἐπυνθάνετο, τί ἐστιν ὃ ἔχεις ἀπαγγεῖλαί μοι;
Act 23:20 And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly. Act 23:20 And he said," The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down tomorrow to the Council, as though they were going to inquire somewhat more thoroughly about him. Act|23|20|εἶπεν δὲ ὅτι οἱ ἰουδαῖοι συνέθεντο τοῦ ἐρωτῆσαί σε ὅπως αὔριον τὸν παῦλον καταγάγῃς εἰς τὸ συνέδριον ὡς μέλλον τι ἀκριβέστερον πυνθάνεσθαι περὶ αὐτοῦ.
Act 23:21 But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee. Act 23:21 So do not listen to them, for more than forty of them are lying in wait for him who have bound themselves under a curse not to eat or drink until they slay him; and now they are ready and waiting for the promise from you." Act|23|21|σὺ οὗν μὴ πεισθῇς αὐτοῖς· ἐνεδρεύουσιν γὰρ αὐτὸν ἐξ αὐτῶν ἄνδρες πλείους τεσσεράκοντα, οἵτινες ἀνεθεμάτισαν ἑαυτοὺς μήτε φαγεῖν μήτε πιεῖν ἕως οὖ ἀνέλωσιν αὐτόν, καὶ νῦν εἰσιν ἕτοιμοι προσδεχόμενοι τὴν ἀπὸ σοῦ ἐπαγγελίαν.
Act 23:22 So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me. Act 23:22 So the commander let the young man go, instructing him," Tell no one that you have notified me of these things." Act|23|22|ὁ μὲν οὗν χιλίαρχος ἀπέλυσε τὸν νεανίσκον παραγγείλας μηδενὶ ἐκλαλῆσαι ὅτι ταῦτα ἐνεφάνισας πρός με.
Act 23:23 And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night; Act 23:23 And he called to him two of the centurions and said," Get two hundred soldiers ready by the third hour of the night to proceed to Caesarea, with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen." Act|23|23|καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος δύο [τινὰς] τῶν ἑκατονταρχῶν εἶπεν, ἑτοιμάσατε στρατιώτας διακοσίους ὅπως πορευθῶσιν ἕως καισαρείας, καὶ ἱππεῖς ἑβδομήκοντα καὶ δεξιολάβους διακοσίους, ἀπὸ τρίτης ὥρας τῆς νυκτός,
Act 23:24 And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor. Act 23:24 They were also to provide mounts to put Paul on and bring him safely to Felix the governor. Act|23|24|κτήνη τε παραστῆσαι ἵνα ἐπιβιβάσαντες τὸν παῦλον διασώσωσι πρὸς φήλικα τὸν ἡγεμόνα,
Act 23:25 And he wrote a letter after this manner: Act 23:25 And he wrote a letter having this form: Act|23|25|γράψας ἐπιστολὴν ἔχουσαν τὸν τύπον τοῦτον·
Act 23:26 Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting. Act 23:26 "Claudius Lysias, to the most excellent governor Felix, greetings. Act|23|26|κλαύδιος λυσίας τῶ κρατίστῳ ἡγεμόνι φήλικι χαίρειν.
Act 23:27 This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman. Act 23:27 "When this man was arrested by the Jews and was about to be slain by them, I came up to them with the troops and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman. Act|23|27|τὸν ἄνδρα τοῦτον συλλημφθέντα ὑπὸ τῶν ἰουδαίων καὶ μέλλοντα ἀναιρεῖσθαι ὑπ᾽ αὐτῶν ἐπιστὰς σὺν τῶ στρατεύματι ἐξειλάμην, μαθὼν ὅτι ῥωμαῖός ἐστιν·
Act 23:28 And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council: Act 23:28 "And wanting to ascertain the charge for which they were accusing him, I brought him down to their Council; Act|23|28|βουλόμενός τε ἐπιγνῶναι τὴν αἰτίαν δι᾽ ἣν ἐνεκάλουν αὐτῶ κατήγαγον εἰς τὸ συνέδριον αὐτῶν·
Act 23:29 Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds. Act 23:29 and I found him to be accused over questions about their Law, but under no accusation deserving death or imprisonment. Act|23|29|ὃν εὖρον ἐγκαλούμενον περὶ ζητημάτων τοῦ νόμου αὐτῶν, μηδὲν δὲ ἄξιον θανάτου ἢ δεσμῶν ἔχοντα ἔγκλημα.
Act 23:30 And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell. Act 23:30 "When I was informed that there would be a plot against the man, I sent him to you at once, also instructing his accusers to bring charges against him before you." Act|23|30|μηνυθείσης δέ μοι ἐπιβουλῆς εἰς τὸν ἄνδρα ἔσεσθαι, ἐξαυτῆς ἔπεμψα πρὸς σέ, παραγγείλας καὶ τοῖς κατηγόροις λέγειν [τὰ] πρὸς αὐτὸν ἐπὶ σοῦ.
Act 23:31 Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris. Act 23:31 So the soldiers, in accordance with their orders, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris. Act 23:33 Who, when they came to Caesarea and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him. Act 23:35 he said," I will give you a hearing after your accusers arrive also," giving orders for him to be kept in Herod's Praetorium.
