Day - 355 - James 1-5
Jam 1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. Jas 1:1 James, a bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes who are dispersed abroad: Greetings.
Jam 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Jas 1:2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, Jam|1|2|πᾶσαν χαρὰν ἡγήσασθε, ἀδελφοί μου, ὅταν πειρασμοῖς περιπέσητε ποικίλοις,
Jam 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. Jas 1:3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
Jam 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. Jas 1:4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
Jam 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. Jas 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Jam 1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. Jas 1:6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.
Jam 1:7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. Jas 1:7 For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, Jam|1|7|μὴ γὰρ οἰέσθω ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἐκεῖνος ὅτι λήμψεταί τι παρὰ τοῦ κυρίου,
Jam 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. Jas 1:8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Jam 1:9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: Jas 1:9 But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; Jam|1|9|καυχάσθω δὲ ὁ ἀδελφὸς ὁ ταπεινὸς ἐν τῶ ὕψει αὐτοῦ,
Jam 1:10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. Jas 1:10 and the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away.
Jam 1:11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. Jas 1:11 For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away.
Jam 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Jas 1:12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
Jam 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: Jas 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted," I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.
Jam 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Jas 1:14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
Jam 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Jas 1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.
Jam 1:16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. Jas 1:16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.
Jam 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Jas 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
Jam 1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. Jas 1:18 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.
Jam 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: Jas 1:19 This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; Jam|1|19|ἴστε, ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί.
Jam 1:20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Jas 1:20 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.
Jam 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. Jas 1:21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.
Jam 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Jas 1:22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
Jam 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: Jas 1:23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; Jam|1|23|ὅτι εἴ τις ἀκροατὴς λόγου ἐστὶν καὶ οὐ ποιητής, οὖτος ἔοικεν ἀνδρὶ κατανοοῦντι τὸ πρόσωπον τῆς γενέσεως αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐσόπτρῳ·
Jam 1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. Jas 1:24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.
Jam 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. Jas 1:25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.
Jam 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Jas 1:26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless.
Jam 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. Jas 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
Jam 2:1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. Jas 2:1 My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism.
Jam 2:2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; Jas 2:2 For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes, Jam|2|2|ἐὰν γὰρ εἰσέλθῃ εἰς συναγωγὴν ὑμῶν ἀνὴρ χρυσοδακτύλιος ἐν ἐσθῆτι λαμπρᾷ, εἰσέλθῃ δὲ καὶ πτωχὸς ἐν ῥυπαρᾷ ἐσθῆτι,
Jam 2:3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: Jas 2:3 and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say," You sit here in a good place," and you say to the poor man," You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool," Jam|2|3|ἐπιβλέψητε δὲ ἐπὶ τὸν φοροῦντα τὴν ἐσθῆτα τὴν λαμπρὰν καὶ εἴπητε, σὺ κάθου ὧδε καλῶς, καὶ τῶ πτωχῶ εἴπητε, σὺ στῆθι ἐκεῖ ἢ κάθου ὑπὸ τὸ ὑποπόδιόν μου,
Jam 2:4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? Jas 2:4 have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives? Jam|2|4|οὐ διεκρίθητε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς καὶ ἐγένεσθε κριταὶ διαλογισμῶν πονηρῶν;
Jam 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? Jas 2:5 Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? Jam|2|5|ἀκούσατε, ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί. οὐχ ὁ θεὸς ἐξελέξατο τοὺς πτωχοὺς τῶ κόσμῳ πλουσίους ἐν πίστει καὶ κληρονόμους τῆς βασιλείας ἧς ἐπηγγείλατο τοῖς ἀγαπῶσιν αὐτόν;
Jam 2:6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? Jas 2:6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court? Jam|2|6|ὑμεῖς δὲ ἠτιμάσατε τὸν πτωχόν. οὐχ οἱ πλούσιοι καταδυναστεύουσιν ὑμῶν, καὶ αὐτοὶ ἕλκουσιν ὑμᾶς εἰς κριτήρια;
Jam 2:7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? Jas 2:7 Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called? Jam|2|7|οὐκ αὐτοὶ βλασφημοῦσιν τὸ καλὸν ὄνομα τὸ ἐπικληθὲν ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς;
Jam 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: Jas 2:8 If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture," You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing well.
Jam 2:9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. Jas 2:9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
Jam 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. Jas 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
Jam 2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. Jas 2:11 For He who said," Do not commit adultery," also said," Do not commit murder." Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.
Jam 2:12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. Jas 2:12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty.
Jam 2:13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. Jas 2:13 For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.
Jam 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? Jas 2:14 What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? Jam|2|14|τί τὸ ὄφελος, ἀδελφοί μου, ἐὰν πίστιν λέγῃ τις ἔχειν, ἔργα δὲ μὴ ἔχῃ; μὴ δύναται ἡ πίστις σῶσαι αὐτόν;
Jam 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, Jas 2:15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, Jam|2|15|ἐὰν ἀδελφὸς ἢ ἀδελφὴ γυμνοὶ ὑπάρχωσιν καὶ λειπόμενοι τῆς ἐφημέρου τροφῆς,
Jam 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Jas 2:16 and one of you says to them," Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? Jam|2|16|εἴπῃ δέ τις αὐτοῖς ἐξ ὑμῶν, ὑπάγετε ἐν εἰρήνῃ, θερμαίνεσθε καὶ χορτάζεσθε, μὴ δῶτε δὲ αὐτοῖς τὰ ἐπιτήδεια τοῦ σώματος, τί τὸ ὄφελος;
Jam 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Jas 2:17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.
Jam 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Jas 2:18 But someone may well say," You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works."
Jam 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. Jas 2:19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.
Jam 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Jas 2:20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? Jam|2|20|θέλεις δὲ γνῶναι, ὦ ἄνθρωπε κενέ, ὅτι ἡ πίστις χωρὶς τῶν ἔργων ἀργή ἐστιν;
Jam 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Jas 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? Jam|2|21|ἀβραὰμ ὁ πατὴρ ἡμῶν οὐκ ἐξ ἔργων ἐδικαιώθη, ἀνενέγκας ἰσαὰκ τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον;
Jam 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? Jas 2:22 You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; Jam|2|22|βλέπεις ὅτι ἡ πίστις συνήργει τοῖς ἔργοις αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἔργων ἡ πίστις ἐτελειώθη,
Jam 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Jas 2:23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says," And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness," and he was called the friend of God.
Jam 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Jas 2:24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.
Jam 2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? Jas 2:25 In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? Jam|2|25|ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ ῥαὰβ ἡ πόρνη οὐκ ἐξ ἔργων ἐδικαιώθη, ὑποδεξαμένη τοὺς ἀγγέλους καὶ ἑτέρᾳ ὁδῶ ἐκβαλοῦσα;
Jam 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. Jas 2:26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
Jam 3:1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. Jas 3:1 Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.
Jam 3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. Jas 3:2 For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.
Jam 3:3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Jas 3:3 Now if we put the bits into the horses' mouths so that they will obey us, we direct their entire body as well.
Jam 3:4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Jas 3:4 Look at the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, are still directed by a very small rudder wherever the inclination of the pilot desires.
Jam 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! Jas 3:5 So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire!
Jam 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. Jas 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell.
Jam 3:7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: Jas 3:7 For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race.
Jam 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Jas 3:8 But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison.
Jam 3:9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Jas 3:9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; Jam|3|9|ἐν αὐτῇ εὐλογοῦμεν τὸν κύριον καὶ πατέρα, καὶ ἐν αὐτῇ καταρώμεθα τοὺς ἀνθρώπους τοὺς καθ᾽ ὁμοίωσιν θεοῦ γεγονότας·
Jam 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Jas 3:10 from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way.
Jam 3:11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Jas 3:11 Does a fountain send out from the same opening both fresh and bitter water? Jam|3|11|μήτι ἡ πηγὴ ἐκ τῆς αὐτῆς ὀπῆς βρύει τὸ γλυκὺ καὶ τὸ πικρόν;
Jam 3:12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. Jas 3:12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, produce olives, or a vine produce figs? Nor can salt water produce fresh.
Jam 3:13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. Jas 3:13 Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.
Jam 3:14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. Jas 3:14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth.
Jam 3:15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. Jas 3:15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic.
Jam 3:16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. Jas 3:16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.
Jam 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. Jas 3:17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.
Jam 3:18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. Jas 3:18 And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Jam 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Jas 4:1 What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? Jam|4|1|πόθεν πόλεμοι καὶ πόθεν μάχαι ἐν ὑμῖν; οὐκ ἐντεῦθεν, ἐκ τῶν ἡδονῶν ὑμῶν τῶν στρατευομένων ἐν τοῖς μέλεσιν ὑμῶν;
Jam 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Jas 4:2 You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.
Jam 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Jas 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Jam 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Jas 4:4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
Jam 4:5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? Jas 4:5 Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose." He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us"? Jam|4|5|ἢ δοκεῖτε ὅτι κενῶς ἡ γραφὴ λέγει, πρὸς φθόνον ἐπιποθεῖ τὸ πνεῦμα ὃ κατῴκισεν ἐν ἡμῖν;
Jam 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Jas 4:6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says," God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
Jam 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Jas 4:7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Jam 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Jas 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Jam 4:9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Jas 4:9 Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom.
Jam 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. Jas 4:10 Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.
Jam 4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. Jas 4:11 Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.
Jam 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? Jas 4:12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor? Jam|4|12|εἷς ἐστιν [ὁ] νομοθέτης καὶ κριτής, ὁ δυνάμενος σῶσαι καὶ ἀπολέσαι· σὺ δὲ τίς εἶ, ὁ κρίνων τὸν πλησίον;
Jam 4:13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Jas 4:13 Come now, you who say," Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit."
Jam 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. Jas 4:14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.
Jam 4:15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. Jas 4:15 Instead, you ought to say," If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that."
Jam 4:16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. Jas 4:16 But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil.
Jam 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. Jas 4:17 Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.
Jam 5:1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Jas 5:1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you.
Jam 5:2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Jas 5:2 Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten.
Jam 5:3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Jas 5:3 Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!
Jam 5:4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. Jas 5:4 Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.
Jam 5:5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. Jas 5:5 You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.
Jam 5:6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you. Jas 5:6 You have condemned and put to death the righteous man; he does not resist you.
Jam 5:7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Jas 5:7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains.
Jam 5:8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. Jas 5:8 You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.
Jam 5:9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door. Jas 5:9 Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door.
Jam 5:10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. Jas 5:10 As an example, brethren, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
Jam 5:11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. Jas 5:11 We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord's dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.
Jam 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. Jas 5:12 But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment.
Jam 5:13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Jas 5:13 Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises.
Jam 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: Jas 5:14 Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; Jam|5|14|ἀσθενεῖ τις ἐν ὑμῖν; προσκαλεσάσθω τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους τῆς ἐκκλησίας, καὶ προσευξάσθωσαν ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν ἀλείψαντες [αὐτὸν] ἐλαίῳ ἐν τῶ ὀνόματι τοῦ κυρίου·
Jam 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Jas 5:15 and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.
Jam 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Jas 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
Jam 5:17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. Jas 5:17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.
Jam 5:18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. Jas 5:18 Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.
Jam 5:19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Jas 5:19 My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, Jam|5|19|ἀδελφοί μου, ἐάν τις ἐν ὑμῖν πλανηθῇ ἀπὸ τῆς ἀληθείας καὶ ἐπιστρέψῃ τις αὐτόν,
Jam 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. Jas 5:20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
