But Jonah had gone below into the hold of the ship, lain down and fallen sound asleep. (nasb) Jon 1:5 Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. Get up, call on your god. Perhaps your god will be concerned about us so that we will not perish."(nasb) Jon 1:6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.(kjv) Jon 1:6 So the captain came to him, and said to him, "What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your God; perhaps your God will consider us, so that we may not perish."(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:7 ============ Jon 1:7 Each man said to his mate, "Come, let us cast lots so we may learn on whose account this calamity has struck us." So they cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah. (nasb) Jon 1:7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. And where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?"(nasb) Jon 1:8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?(kjv) Jon 1:8 Then they said to him, "Please tell us! For whose cause is this trouble upon us? What is your occupation? And where do you come from? What is your country? And of what people are you?"(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:9 ============ Jon 1:9 He said to them, "I am a Hebrew, and I fear the Lord God of heaven who made the sea and the dry land."(nasb) Jon 1:9 And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.(kjv) Jon 1:9 So he said to them, "I am a Hebrew; and I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land."(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:10 ============ Jon 1:10 Then the men became extremely frightened and they said to him, "How could you do this?" For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them. (nasb) Jon 1:10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.(kjv) Jon 1:10 Then the men were exceedingly afraid, and said to him, "Why have you done this?" For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:11 ============ Jon 1:11 So they said to him, "What should we do to you that the sea may become calm for us?"--for the sea was becoming increasingly stormy. (nasb) Jon 1:11 Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.(kjv) Jon 1:11 Then they said to him, "What shall we do to you that the sea may be calm for us?"--for the sea was growing more tempestuous.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:12 ============ Jon 1:12 He said to them, "Pick me up and throw me into the sea. Then the sea will become calm for you, for I know that on account of me this great storm has come upon you."(nasb) Jon 1:12 And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.(kjv) Jon 1:12 And he said to them, "Pick me up and throw me into the sea; then the sea will become calm for you. (nasb) Jon 1:13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.(kjv) Jon 1:13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to return to land, but they could not, for the sea continued to grow more tempestuous against them.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:14 ============ Jon 1:14 Then they called on the Lord and said, "We earnestly pray, O Lord, do not let us perish on account of this man's life and do not put innocent blood on us; for You, O Lord, have done as You have pleased."(nasb) Jon 1:14 Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.(kjv) Jon 1:14 Therefore they cried out to the Lord and said, "We pray, O Lord, please do not let us perish for this man's life, and do not charge us with innocent blood; for You, O Lord, have done as it pleased You."(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:15 ============ Jon 1:15 So they picked up Jonah, threw him into the sea, and the sea stopped its raging.
