This Reading ( day #, date, Chapters ): 277 | 10-Oct-04 | Mar1 | Luk3 | Mat3.html

Mar 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Mar 1:2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: "Behold, I send My messenger ahead of You, Who will prepare Your way;

Mar 1:3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make ready the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight.'"

Mar 1:4 John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Mar 1:5 And all the country of Judea was going out to him, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

Mar 1:6 John was clothed with camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist, and his diet was locusts and wild honey.

Mar 1:7 And he was preaching, and saying, "After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to stoop down and untie the thong of His sandals.

Mar 1:8 I baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."

Mar 1:9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

Mar 1:10 Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him;

Mar 1:11 and a voice came out of the heavens. "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased."

Mar 1:12 Immediately the Spirit impelled Him to go out into the wilderness.

Mar 1:13 And He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to Him.

Mar 1:14 Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God,

Mar 1:15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."

Mar 1:16 As He was going along by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen.

Mar 1:17 And Jesus said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men."

Mar 1:18 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.

Mar 1:19 Going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets.

Mar 1:20 Immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went away to follow Him.

Mar 1:21 They went into Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and began to teach.

Mar 1:22 They were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Mar 1:23 Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

Mar 1:24 saying, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are--the Holy One of God!"

Mar 1:25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!"

Mar 1:26 Throwing him into convulsions, the unclean spirit cried out with a loud voice and came out of him.

Mar 1:27 They were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him."

Mar 1:28 Immediately the news about Him spread everywhere into all the surrounding district of Galilee.

Mar 1:29 And immediately after they came out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

Mar 1:30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and immediately they spoke to Jesus about her.

Mar 1:31 And He came to her and raised her up, taking her by the hand, and the fever left her, and she waited on them.

Mar 1:32 When evening came, after the sun had set, they began bringing to Him all who were ill and those who were demon-possessed.

Mar 1:33 And the whole city had gathered at the door.

Mar 1:34 And He healed many who were ill with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He was not permitting the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.

Mar 1:35 In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.

Mar 1:36 Simon and his companions searched for Him;

Mar 1:37 they found Him, and said to Him, "Everyone is looking for You."

Mar 1:38 He said to them, "Let us go somewhere else to the towns nearby, so that I may preach there also; for that is what I came for."

Mar 1:39 And He went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out the demons.

Mar 1:40 And a leper came to Jesus, beseeching Him and falling on his knees before Him, and saying, "If You are willing, You can make me clean."

Mar 1:41 Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, "I am willing; be cleansed."

Mar 1:42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.

Mar 1:43 And He sternly warned him and immediately sent him away,

Mar 1:44 and He said to him, "See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

Mar 1:45 But he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the news around, to such an extent that Jesus could no longer publicly enter a city, but stayed out in unpopulated areas; and they were coming to Him from everywhere.

Luk 3:1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip was tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,

Luk 3:2 in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.

Luk 3:3 And he came into all the district around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins;

Luk 3:4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD, MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT.

Luk 3:5 'EVERY RAVINE WILL BE FILLED, AND EVERY MOUNTAIN AND HILL WILL BE BROUGHT LOW; THE CROOKED WILL BECOME STRAIGHT, AND THE ROUGH ROADS SMOOTH;

Luk 3:6 AND ALL FLESH WILL SEE THE SALVATION OF GOD.'"

Luk 3:7 So he began saying to the crowds who were going out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Luk 3:8 Therefore bear fruits in keeping with repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father,' for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham.

Luk 3:9 Indeed the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; so every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire."

Luk 3:10 And the crowds were questioning him, saying, "Then what shall we do?"

Luk 3:11 And he would answer and say to them," The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise."

Luk 3:12 And some tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, "Teacher, what shall we do?"

Luk 3:13 And he said to them, "Collect no more than what you have been ordered to."

Luk 3:14 Some soldiers were questioning him, saying, "And what about us, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages."

Luk 3:15 Now while the people were in a state of expectation and all were wondering in their hearts about John, as to whether he was the Christ,

Luk 3:16 John answered and said to them all, "As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Luk 3:17 His winnowing fork is in His hand to thoroughly clear His threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

Luk 3:18 So with many other exhortations he preached the gospel to the people.

Luk 3:19 But when Herod the tetrarch was reprimanded by him because of Herodias, his brother's wife, and because of all the wicked things which Herod had done,

Luk 3:20 Herod also added this to them all: he locked John up in prison.

Luk 3:21 Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened,

Luk 3:22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased."

Luk 3:23 When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, the son of Eli,

Luk 3:24 the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,

Luk 3:25 the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Hesli, the son of Naggai,

Luk 3:26 the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech, the son of Joda,

Luk 3:27 the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri,

Luk 3:28 the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er,

Luk 3:29 the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi,

Luk 3:30 the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,

Luk 3:31 the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,

Luk 3:32 the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon,

Luk 3:33 the son of Amminadab, the son of Admin, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah,

Luk 3:34 the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,

Luk 3:35 the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Heber, the son of Shelah,

Luk 3:36 the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,

Luk 3:37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan,

Luk 3:38 the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

--------

Mat 3:1 Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,

Mat 3:2 "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Mat 3:3 For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make ready the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!'"

Mat 3:4 Now John himself had a garment of camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

Mat 3:5 Then Jerusalem was going out to him, and all Judea and all the district around the Jordan;

Mat 3:6 and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, as they confessed their sins.

Mat 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Mat 3:8 Therefore bear fruit in keeping with repentance;

Mat 3:9 and do not suppose that you can say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father'; for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham.

Mat 3:10 The axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Mat 3:11 "As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Mat 3:12 His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

Mat 3:13 Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John, to be baptized by him.

Mat 3:14 But John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?"

Mat 3:15 But Jesus answering said to him, "Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he permitted Him.

Mat 3:16 After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him,

Mat 3:17 and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased."
