(Hebrew) 1 ׃34 וַתֵּצֵ֤א דִינָה֙ בַּת־לֵאָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָלְדָ֖ה לְיַעֲקֹ֑ב לִרְא֖וֹת בִּבְנ֥וֹת הָאָֽרֶץ׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:1 Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the daughters of the land.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:2---- (Hebrew) 2 ׃34 וַיַּ֨רְא אֹתָ֜הּ שְׁכֶ֧ם בֶּן־חֲמ֛וֹר הֽ͏ַחִוִּ֖י נְשִׂ֣יא הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּקַּ֥ח אֹתָ֛הּ וַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב אֹתָ֖הּ וַיְעַנֶּֽהָ׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:2 When Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, he took her and lay with her by force.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:3---- (Hebrew) 3 ׃34 וַתִּדְבַּ֣ק נַפְשׁ֔וֹ בְּדִינָ֖ה בַּֽת־יַעֲקֹ֑ב וַיֶּֽאֱהַב֙ אֶת־הַֽנַּעֲרָ֔ וַיְדַבֵּ֖ר עַל־לֵ֥ב הַֽנַּעֲרָֽ׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:3 He was deeply attracted to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl and spoke tenderly to her.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:4---- (Hebrew) 4 ׃34 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שְׁכֶ֔ם אֶל־חֲמ֥וֹר אָבִ֖יו לֵאמֹ֑ר קַֽח־לִ֛י אֶת־הַיַּלְדָּ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את לְאִשָּֽׁה׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:4 So Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, "Get me this young girl for a wife."(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:5---- (Hebrew) 5 ׃34 וְיַעֲקֹ֣ב שָׁמַ֗ע כִּ֤י טִמֵּא֙ אֶת־דִּינָ֣ה בִתּ֔וֹ וּבָנָ֛יו הָי֥וּ אֶת־מִקְנֵ֖הוּ בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה וְהֶחֱרִ֥שׁ יַעֲקֹ֖ב עַד־בֹּאָֽם׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:5 Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter; and the men were grieved, and they were very angry because he had done a disgraceful thing in Israel by lying with Jacob's daughter, for such a thing ought not to be done.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:8---- (Hebrew) 8 ׃34 וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר חֲמ֖וֹר אִתָּ֣ם לֵאמֹ֑ר שְׁכֶ֣ם בְּנִ֗י חָֽשְׁקָ֤ה נַפְשׁוֹ֙ בְּבִתְּכֶ֔ם תְּנ֨וּ נָ֥א אֹתָ֛הּ ל֖וֹ לְאִשָּֽׁה׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:8 But Hamor spoke with them, saying, "The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter; please give her to him in marriage.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:9---- (Hebrew) 9 ׃34 וְהִֽתְחַתְּנ֖וּ אֹתָ֑נוּ בְּנֹֽתֵיכֶם֙ תִּתְּנוּ־לָ֔נוּ וְאֶת־בְּנֹתֵ֖ינוּ תִּקְח֥וּ לָכֶֽם׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:9 Intermarry with us; give your daughters to us and take our daughters for yourselves.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:10---- (Hebrew) 10 ׃34 וְאִתָּ֖נוּ תֵּשֵׁ֑בוּ וְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ תִּהְיֶ֣ה לִפְנֵיכֶ֔ם שְׁבוּ֙ וּסְחָר֔וּהָ וְהֵֽאָחֲז֖וּ בָּֽהּ׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:10 Thus you shall live with us, and the land shall be open before you; live and trade in it and acquire property in it."(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:11---- (Hebrew) 11 ׃34 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁכֶם֙ אֶל־אָבִ֣יה וְאֶל־אַחֶ֔יהָ אֶמְצָא־חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינֵיכֶ֑ם וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר תֹּאמְר֛וּ אֵלַ֖י אֶתֵּֽן׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:11 Shechem also said to her father and to her brothers, "If I find favor in your sight, then I will give whatever you say to me.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:12---- (Hebrew) 12 ׃34 הַרְבּ֨וּ עָלַ֤י מְאֹד֙ מֹ֣הַר וּמַתָּ֔ן וְאֶ֨תְּנָ֔ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר תֹּאמְר֖וּ אֵלָ֑י וּתְנוּ־לִ֥י אֶת־הַֽנַּעֲרָ֖ לְאִשָּֽׁה׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:12 Ask me ever so much bridal payment and gift, and I will give according as you say to me; but give me the girl in marriage."(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:13---- (Hebrew) 13 ׃34 וַיַּעֲנ֨וּ בְנֵֽי־יַעֲקֹ֜ב אֶת־שְׁכֶ֨ם וְאֶת־חֲמ֥וֹר אָבִ֛יו בְּמִרְמָ֖ה וַיְדַבֵּ֑רוּ אֲשֶׁ֣ר טִמֵּ֔א אֵ֖ת דִּינָ֥ה אֲחֹתָֽם׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:13 But Jacob's sons answered Shechem and his father Hamor with deceit, because he had defiled Dinah their sister.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:14---- (Hebrew) 14 ׃34 וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם לֹ֤א נוּכַל֙ לַעֲשׂוֹת֙ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה לָתֵת֙ אֶת־אֲחֹתֵ֔נוּ לְאִ֖ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־ל֣וֹ עָרְלָ֑ה כִּֽי־חֶרְפָּ֥ה הִ֖וא לָֽנוּ׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:14 They said to them, "We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised, for that would be a disgrace to us.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:15---- (Hebrew) 15 ׃34 אַךְ־בְּזֹ֖את נֵא֣וֹת לָכֶ֑ם אִ֚ם תִּהְי֣וּ כָמֹ֔נוּ לְהִמֹּ֥ל לָכֶ֖ם כָּל־זָכָֽר׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:15 Only on this condition will we consent to you: if you will become like us, in that every male of you be circumcised,(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:16---- (Hebrew) 16 ׃34 וְנָתַ֤נּוּ אֶת־בְּנֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙ לָכֶ֔ם וְאֶת־בְּנֹתֵיכֶ֖ם נִֽקַּֽח־לָ֑נוּ וְיָשַׁ֣בְנוּ אִתְּכֶ֔ם וְהָיִ֖ינוּ לְעַ֥ם אֶחָֽד׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:16 then we will give our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters for ourselves, and we will live with you and become one people.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:17---- (Hebrew) 17 ׃34 וְאִם־לֹ֧א תִשְׁמְע֛וּ אֵלֵ֖ינוּ לְהִמּ֑וֹל וְלָקַ֥חְנוּ אֶת־בִּתֵּ֖נוּ וְהָלָֽכְנוּ׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:17 But if you will not listen to us to be circumcised, then we will take our daughter and go."(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:18---- (Hebrew) 18 ׃34 וַיִּֽיטְב֥וּ דִבְרֵיהֶ֖ם בְּעֵינֵ֣י חֲמ֑וֹר וּבְעֵינֵ֖י שְׁכֶ֥ם בֶּן־חֲמֽוֹר׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:18 Now their words seemed reasonable to Hamor and Shechem, Hamor's son.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:19---- (Hebrew) 19 ׃34 וְלֹֽא־אֵחַ֤ר הַנַּ֙עַר֙ לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת הַדָּבָ֔ר כִּ֥י חָפֵ֖ץ בְּבַֽת־יַעֲקֹ֑ב וְה֣וּא נִכְבָּ֔ד מִכֹּ֖ל בֵּ֥ית אָבִֽיו׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:19 The young man did not delay to do the thing, because he was delighted with Jacob's daughter. Now he was more respected than all the household of his father.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:20---- (Hebrew) 20 ׃34 וַיָּבֹ֥א חֲמ֛וֹר וּשְׁכֶ֥ם בְּנ֖וֹ אֶל־שַׁ֣עַר עִירָ֑ם וַֽיְדַבְּר֛וּ אֶל־אַנְשֵׁ֥י עִירָ֖ם לֵאמֹֽר׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:20 So Hamor and his son Shechem came to the gate of their city and spoke to the men of their city, saying,(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:21---- (Hebrew) 21 ׃34 הָאֲנָשִׁ֨ים הָאֵ֜לֶּה שְֽׁלֵמִ֧ים הֵ֣ם אִתָּ֗נוּ וְיֵשְׁב֤וּ בָאָ֙רֶץ֙ וְיִסְחֲר֣וּ אֹתָ֔הּ וְהָאָ֛רֶץ הִנֵּ֥ה רַֽחֲבַת־יָדַ֖יִם לִפְנֵיהֶ֑ם אֶת־בְּנֹתָם֙ נִקַּֽח־לָ֣נוּ לְנָשִׁ֔ים וְאֶת־בְּנֹתֵ֖ינוּ נִתֵּ֥ן לָהֶֽם׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:21 "These men are friendly with us; therefore let them live in the land and trade in it, for behold, the land is large enough for them. Let us take their daughters in marriage, and give our daughters to them.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:22---- (Hebrew) 22 ׃34 אַךְ־בְּ֠זֹאת יֵאֹ֨תוּ לָ֤נוּ הָאֲנָשִׁים֙ לָשֶׁ֣בֶת אִתָּ֔נוּ לִהְי֖וֹת לְעַ֣ם אֶחָ֑ד בְּהִמּ֥וֹל לָ֙נוּ֙ כָּל־זָכָ֔ר כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר הֵ֥ם נִמֹּלִֽים׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:22 Only on this condition will the men consent to us to live with us, to become one people: that every male among us be circumcised as they are circumcised.(NASB-1995) ================================================================================ ---- Genesis 34:23---- (Hebrew) 23 ׃34 מִקְנֵהֶ֤ם וְקִנְיָנָם֙ וְכָל־בְּהֶמְתָּ֔ם הֲל֥וֹא לָ֖נוּ הֵ֑ם אַ֚ךְ נֵא֣וֹתָה לָהֶ֔ם וְיֵשְׁב֖וּ אִתָּֽנוּ׃ Genesis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gen 34:23 Will not their livestock and their property and all their animals be ours?
