Fill your horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have selected a king for Myself among his sons."(nasb) 1Sa 16:1 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Σαμουηλ ἕως πότε σὺ πενθεῖς ἐπὶ Σαουλ κἀγὼ ἐξουδένωκα αὐτὸν μὴ βασιλεύειν ἐπὶ Ισραηλ πλῆσον τὸ κέρας σου ἐλαίου καὶ δεῦρο ἀποστείλω σε πρὸς Ιεσσαι ἕως εἰς Βηθλεεμ ὅτι ἑόρακα ἐν τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ ἐμοὶ βασιλεύειν (lxx) 1Sa 16:1 Dixitque Dominus ad Samuelem: Usquequo tu luges Saul, cum ego projecerim eum ne regnet super Israël? Imple cornu tuum oleo, et veni, ut mittam te ad Isai Bethlehemitem: providi enim in filiis ejus mihi regem.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:1 Und der HERR sprach zu Samuel: Wie lange trägst du Leid um Saul, den ich verworfen habe, daß er nicht König sei über Israel? Fülle dein Horn mit Öl und gehe hin: ich will dich senden zu dem Bethlehemiter Isai; denn unter seinen Söhnen habe ich mir einen König ersehen.(dhs) 1Sa 16:1 Now the Lord said to Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons."(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:2 ============ 1Sa 16:2 But Samuel said, "How can I go? When Saul hears of it, he will kill me." And the Lord said, "Take a heifer with you and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.'(nasb) 1Sa 16:2 καὶ εἶπεν Σαμουηλ πῶς πορευθῶ καὶ ἀκούσεται Σαουλ καὶ ἀποκτενεῖ με καὶ εἶπεν κύριος δάμαλιν βοῶν λαβὲ ἐν τῇ χειρί σου καὶ ἐρεῖς θῦσαι τῷ κυρίῳ ἥκω (lxx) 1Sa 16:2 Et ait Samuel: Quomodo vadam? audiet enim Saul, et interficiet me. Et ait Dominus: Vitulum de armento tolles in manu tua, et dices: Ad immolandum Domino veni.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:2 Samuel aber sprach: Wie soll ich hingehen? Saul wird's erfahren und mich erwürgen. Der HERR sprach: Nimm ein Kalb von den Rindern zu dir und sprich: Ich bin gekommen, dem HERRN zu opfern.(dhs) 1Sa 16:2 And Samuel said, "How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me." And the Lord said, "Take a heifer with you, and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.'(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:3 ============ 1Sa 16:3 You shall invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; and you shall anoint for Me the one whom I designate to you."(nasb) 1Sa 16:3 καὶ καλέσεις τὸν Ιεσσαι εἰς τὴν θυσίαν καὶ γνωριῶ σοι ἃ ποιήσεις καὶ χρίσεις ὃν ἐὰν εἴπω πρὸς σέ (lxx) 1Sa 16:3 Et vocabis Isai ad victimam, et ego ostendam tibi quid facias, et unges quemcumque monstravero tibi.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:3 Und sollst Isai zum Opfer laden; da will ich dir weisen, was du tun sollst, daß du mir salbest, welchen ich dir sagen werde.(dhs) 1Sa 16:3 Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you."(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:4 ============ 1Sa 16:4 So Samuel did what the Lord said, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the city came trembling to meet him and said, "Do you come in peace?"(nasb) 1Sa 16:4 καὶ ἐποίησεν Σαμουηλ πάντα ἃ ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ κύριος καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς Βηθλεεμ καὶ ἐξέστησαν οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τῆς πόλεως τῇ ἀπαντήσει αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπαν εἰρήνη ἡ εἴσοδός σου ὁ βλέπων (lxx) 1Sa 16:4 Fecit ergo Samuel sicut locutus est ei Dominus. Venitque in Bethlehem, et admirati sunt seniores civitatis occurrentes ei: dixeruntque: Pacificusne est ingressus tuus?(vulgate) 1Sa 16:4 Samuel tat, wie ihm der HERR gesagt hatte, und kam gen Bethlehem. Da entsetzten sich die Ältesten der Stadt und gingen ihm entgegen und sprachen: Ist's Friede, daß du kommst?(dhs) 1Sa 16:4 So Samuel did what the Lord said, and went to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, "Do you come peaceably?"(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:5 ============ 1Sa 16:5 He said, "In peace; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice." He also consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.(nasb) 1Sa 16:5 καὶ εἶπεν εἰρήνη θῦσαι τῷ κυρίῳ ἥκω ἁγιάσθητε καὶ εὐφράνθητε μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ σήμερον καὶ ἡγίασεν τὸν Ιεσσαι καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν θυσίαν (lxx) 1Sa 16:5 Et ait: Pacificus: ad immolandum Domino veni: sanctificamini, et venite mecum ut immolem. Sanctificavit ergo Isai et filios ejus, et vocavit eos ad sacrificium.~(vulgate) 1Sa 16:5 Er sprach: Ja, ich bin gekommen, dem HERRN zu opfern; heiligt euch und kommt zu mir zum Opfer. Und er heiligte Isai und seine Söhne und lud sie zum Opfer.(dhs) 1Sa 16:5 And he said, "Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice." Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons, and invited them to the sacrifice.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:6 ============ 1Sa 16:6 When they entered, he looked at Eliab and thought, "Surely the Lord's anointed is before Him."(nasb) 1Sa 16:6 καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ αὐτοὺς εἰσιέναι καὶ εἶδεν τὸν Ελιαβ καὶ εἶπεν ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐνώπιον κυρίου χριστὸς αὐτοῦ (lxx) 1Sa 16:6 Cumque ingressi essent, vidit Eliab, et ait: Num coram Domino est christus ejus?(vulgate) 1Sa 16:6 Da sie nun hereinkamen, sah er den Eliab an und gedachte, der sei vor dem HERRN sein Gesalbter.(dhs) 1Sa 16:6 So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and said, "Surely the Lord's anointed is before Him."(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:7 ============ 1Sa 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."(nasb) 1Sa 16:7 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Σαμουηλ μὴ ἐπιβλέψῃς ἐπὶ τὴν ὄψιν αὐτοῦ μηδὲ εἰς τὴν ἕξιν μεγέθους αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἐξουδένωκα αὐτόν ὅτι οὐχ ὡς ἐμβλέψεται ἄνθρωπος ὄψεται ὁ θεός ὅτι ἄνθρωπος ὄψεται εἰς πρόσωπον ὁ δὲ θεὸς ὄψεται εἰς καρδίαν (lxx) 1Sa 16:7 Et dixit Dominus ad Samuelem: Ne respicias vultum ejus, neque altitudinem staturæ ejus: quoniam abjeci eum, nec juxta intuitum hominis ego judico: homo enim videt ea quæ parent, Dominus autem intuetur cor.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:7 Aber der HERR sprach zu Samuel: Sieh nicht an seine Gestalt noch seine große Person; ich habe ihn verworfen. Denn es geht nicht, wie ein Mensch sieht: ein Mensch sieht, was vor Augen ist; der HERR aber sieht das Herz an.(dhs) 1Sa 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. And he said, "The Lord has not chosen this one either."(nasb) 1Sa 16:8 καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ιεσσαι τὸν Αμιναδαβ καὶ παρῆλθεν κατὰ πρόσωπον Σαμουηλ καὶ εἶπεν οὐδὲ τοῦτον ἐξελέξατο κύριος (lxx) 1Sa 16:8 Et vocavit Isai Abinadab, et adduxit eum coram Samuele. Qui dixit: Nec hunc elegit Dominus.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:8 Da rief Isai den Abinadab und ließ ihn an Samuel vorübergehen. Und er sprach: Diesen hat der HERR auch nicht erwählt.(dhs) 1Sa 16:8 So Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, "Neither has the Lord chosen this one."(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:9 ============ 1Sa 16:9 Next Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, "The Lord has not chosen this one either."(nasb) 1Sa 16:9 καὶ παρήγαγεν Ιεσσαι τὸν Σαμα καὶ εἶπεν καὶ ἐν τούτῳ οὐκ ἐξελέξατο κύριος (lxx) 1Sa 16:9 Adduxit autem Isai Samma, de quo ait: Etiam hunc non elegit Dominus.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:9 Da ließ Isai vorübergehen Samma. But Samuel said to Jesse, "The Lord has not chosen these."(nasb) 1Sa 16:10 καὶ παρήγαγεν Ιεσσαι τοὺς ἑπτὰ υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ ἐνώπιον Σαμουηλ καὶ εἶπεν Σαμουηλ οὐκ ἐξελέξατο κύριος ἐν τούτοις (lxx) 1Sa 16:10 Adduxit itaque Isai septem filios suos coram Samuele: et ait Samuel ad Isai: Non elegit Dominus ex istis.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:10 Da ließ Isai seine sieben Söhne an Samuel vorübergehen. Aber Samuel sprach zu Isai: Der HERR hat der keinen erwählt.(dhs) 1Sa 16:10 Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, "The Lord has not chosen these."(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:11 ============ 1Sa 16:11 And Samuel said to Jesse, "Are these all the children?" And he said, "There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he is tending the sheep." Then Samuel said to Jesse, "Send and bring him; for we will not sit down until he comes here."(nasb) 1Sa 16:11 καὶ εἶπεν Σαμουηλ πρὸς Ιεσσαι ἐκλελοίπασιν τὰ παιδάρια καὶ εἶπεν ἔτι ὁ μικρὸς ἰδοὺ ποιμαίνει ἐν τῷ ποιμνίῳ καὶ εἶπεν Σαμουηλ πρὸς Ιεσσαι ἀπόστειλον καὶ λαβὲ αὐτόν ὅτι οὐ μὴ κατακλιθῶμεν ἕως τοῦ ἐλθεῖν αὐτόν (lxx) 1Sa 16:11 Dixitque Samuel ad Isai: Numquid jam completi sunt filii? Qui respondit: Adhuc reliquus est parvulus, et pascit oves. Et ait Samuel ad Isai: Mitte, et adduc eum: nec enim discumbemus priusquam huc ille veniat.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:11 Und Samuel sprach zu Isai: Sind das die Knaben alle? Er aber sprach: Es ist noch übrig der jüngste; und siehe, er hütet die Schafe. Da sprach Samuel zu Isai; Sende hin und laß ihn holen; denn wir werden uns nicht setzen, bis er hierherkomme.(dhs) 1Sa 16:11 And Samuel said to Jesse, "Are all the young men here?" Then he said, "There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep." And Samuel said to Jesse, "Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here."(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:12 ============ 1Sa 16:12 So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the Lord said, "Arise, anoint him; for this is he."(nasb) 1Sa 16:12 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν καὶ εἰσήγαγεν αὐτόν καὶ οὗτος πυρράκης μετὰ κάλλους ὀφθαλμῶν καὶ ἀγαθὸς ὁράσει κυρίῳ καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Σαμουηλ ἀνάστα καὶ χρῖσον τὸν Δαυιδ ὅτι οὗτος ἀγαθός ἐστιν (lxx) 1Sa 16:12 Misit ergo, et adduxit eum. Erat autem rufus, et pulcher aspectu, decoraque facie: et ait Dominus: Surge, unge eum: ipse est enim.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:12 Da sandte er hin und ließ ihn holen. Und er war bräunlich, mit schönen Augen und guter Gestalt. Und der HERR sprach: Auf! und salbe ihn; denn der ist's.(dhs) 1Sa 16:12 So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, "Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!"(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:13 ============ 1Sa 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. And Samuel arose and went to Ramah.(nasb) 1Sa 16:13 καὶ ἔλαβεν Σαμουηλ τὸ κέρας τοῦ ἐλαίου καὶ ἔχρισεν αὐτὸν ἐν μέσῳ τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐφήλατο πνεῦμα κυρίου ἐπὶ Δαυιδ ἀπὸ τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης καὶ ἐπάνω καὶ ἀνέστη Σαμουηλ καὶ ἀπῆλθεν εἰς Αρμαθαιμ (lxx) 1Sa 16:13 Tulit ergo Samuel cornu olei, et unxit eum in medio fratrum ejus: et directus est spiritus Domini a die illa in David, et deinceps. Surgensque Samuel abiit in Ramatha.~(vulgate) 1Sa 16:13 Da nahm Samuel sein Ölhorn und salbte ihn mitten unter seinen Brüdern. Und der Geist des HERRN geriet über David von dem Tage an und fürder. Let them seek a man who is a skillful player on the harp; and it shall come about when the evil spirit from God is on you, that he shall play the harp with his hand, and you will be well."(nasb) 1Sa 16:16 εἰπάτωσαν δὴ οἱ δοῦλοί σου ἐνώπιόν σου καὶ ζητησάτωσαν τῷ κυρίῳ ἡμῶν ἄνδρα εἰδότα ψάλλειν ἐν κινύρᾳ καὶ ἔσται ἐν τῷ εἶναι πνεῦμα πονηρὸν ἐπὶ σοὶ καὶ ψαλεῖ ἐν τῇ κινύρᾳ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀγαθόν σοι ἔσται καὶ ἀναπαύσει σε (lxx) 1Sa 16:16 Jubeat dominus noster, et servi tui qui coram te sunt quærent hominem scientem psallere cithara, ut quando arripuerit te spiritus Domini malus, psallat manu sua, et levius feras.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:16 unser Herr sage seinen Knechten, die vor ihm stehen, daß sie einen Mann suchen, der auf der Harfe wohl spielen könne, auf daß, wenn der böse Geist Gottes über dich kommt, er mit seiner Hand spiele, daß es besser mit dir werde.(dhs) 1Sa 16:16 Let our master now command your servants, who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp; and it shall be that he will play it with his hand when the distressing spirit from God is upon you, and you shall be well."(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:17 ============ 1Sa 16:17 So Saul said to his servants, "Provide for me now a man who can play well and bring him to me."(nasb) 1Sa 16:17 καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ πρὸς τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ ἴδετε δή μοι ἄνδρα ὀρθῶς ψάλλοντα καὶ εἰσαγάγετε αὐτὸν πρὸς ἐμέ (lxx) 1Sa 16:17 Et ait Saul ad servos suos: Providete ergo mihi aliquem bene psallentem, et adducite eum ad me.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:17 Da sprach Saul zu seinen Knechten: Seht nach einem Mann, der des Saitenspiels kundig ist, und bringt ihn zu mir.(dhs) 1Sa 16:17 So Saul said to his servants, "Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me."(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:18 ============ 1Sa 16:18 Then one of the young men said, "Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is a skillful musician, a mighty man of valor, a warrior, one prudent in speech, and a handsome man; and the Lord is with him."(nasb) 1Sa 16:18 καὶ ἀπεκρίθη εἷς τῶν παιδαρίων αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν ἰδοὺ ἑόρακα υἱὸν τῷ Ιεσσαι Βηθλεεμίτην καὶ αὐτὸν εἰδότα ψαλμόν καὶ ὁ ἀνὴρ συνετός καὶ ὁ ἀνὴρ πολεμιστὴς καὶ σοφὸς λόγῳ καὶ ἀνὴρ ἀγαθὸς τῷ εἴδει καὶ κύριος μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ (lxx) 1Sa 16:18 Et respondens unus de pueris, ait: Ecce vidi filium Isai Bethlehemitem scientem psallere, et fortissimum robore, et virum bellicosum, et prudentem in verbis, et virum pulchrum: et Dominus est cum eo.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:18 Da antwortete der Jünglinge einer und sprach: Siehe, ich habe gesehen einen Sohn Isais, des Bethlehemiten, der ist des Saitenspiels kundig; ein rüstiger Mann und streitbar und verständig in seinen Reden und schön, und der HERR ist mit ihm.(dhs) 1Sa 16:18 Then one of the servants answered and said, "Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the Lord is with him."(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:19 ============ 1Sa 16:19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, "Send me your son David who is with the flock."(nasb) 1Sa 16:19 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Σαουλ ἀγγέλους πρὸς Ιεσσαι λέγων ἀπόστειλον πρός με τὸν υἱόν σου Δαυιδ τὸν ἐν τῷ ποιμνίῳ σου (lxx) 1Sa 16:19 Misit ergo Saul nuntios ad Isai, dicens: Mitte ad me David filium tuum, qui est in pascuis.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:19 Da sandte Saul Boten zu Isai und ließ ihm sagen: Sende deinen Sohn David zu mir, der bei den Schafen ist.(dhs) 1Sa 16:19 Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, "Send me your son David, who is with the sheep."(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:20 ============ 1Sa 16:20 Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread and a jug of wine and a young goat, and sent them to Saul by David his son.(nasb) 1Sa 16:20 καὶ ἔλαβεν Ιεσσαι γομορ ἄρτων καὶ ἀσκὸν οἴνου καὶ ἔριφον αἰγῶν ἕνα καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν ἐν χειρὶ Δαυιδ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ πρὸς Σαουλ (lxx) 1Sa 16:20 Tulit itaque Isai asinum plenum panibus, et lagenam vini, et hædum de capris unum, et misit per manum David filii sui Sauli.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:20 Da nahm Isai einen Esel mit Brot und einen Schlauch Wein und ein Ziegenböcklein und sandte es Saul durch seinen Sohn David.(dhs) 1Sa 16:20 And Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine, and a young goat, and sent them by his son David to Saul.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 16:21 ============ 1Sa 16:21 Then David came to Saul and attended him; and Saul loved him greatly, and he became his armor bearer.(nasb) 1Sa 16:21 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Σαουλ καὶ παρειστήκει ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἠγάπησεν αὐτὸν σφόδρα καὶ ἐγενήθη αὐτῷ αἴρων τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ (lxx) 1Sa 16:21 Et venit David ad Saul, et stetit coram eo: at ille dilexit eum nimis, et factus est ejus armiger.(vulgate) 1Sa 16:21 Also kam David zu Saul und diente vor ihm, und er gewann ihn sehr lieb, und er ward sein Waffenträger.(dhs) 1Sa 16:21 So David came to Saul and stood before him.
