Today's Date: ======= 2 Samuel 10:1 ============ 2Sa 10:1 Now it happened afterwards that the king of the Ammonites died, and Hanun his son became king in his place.(nasb) 2Sa 10:1 καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ ταῦτα καὶ ἀπέθανεν βασιλεὺς υἱῶν Αμμων καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν Αννων υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀντ᾽ αὐτοῦ (lxx) 2Sa 10:1 Factum est autem post hæc ut moreretur rex filiorum Ammon, et regnavit Hanon filius ejus pro eo.(vulgate) 2Sa 10:1 Und es begab sich darnach, daß der König der Kinder Ammon starb, und sein Sohn Hanun ward König an seiner Statt.(dhs) 2Sa 10:1 It happened after this that the king of the people of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:2 ============ 2Sa 10:2 Then David said, "I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me." So David sent some of his servants to console him concerning his father. But when David's servants came to the land of the Ammonites,(nasb) 2Sa 10:2 καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ ποιήσω ἔλεος μετὰ Αννων υἱοῦ Ναας ὃν τρόπον ἐποίησεν ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ ἔλεος καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Δαυιδ παρακαλέσαι αὐτὸν ἐν χειρὶ τῶν δούλων αὐτοῦ περὶ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ παρεγένοντο οἱ παῖδες Δαυιδ εἰς τὴν γῆν υἱῶν Αμμων (lxx) 2Sa 10:2 Dixitque David: Faciam misericordiam cum Hanon filio Naas, sicut fecit pater ejus mecum misericordiam. Misit ergo David, consolans eum per servos suos super patris interitu. Cum autem venissent servi David in terram filiorum Ammon,(vulgate) 2Sa 10:2 Da sprach David: Ich will Barmherzigkeit tun an Hanun, dem Sohn Nahas, wie sein Vater an mir Barmherzigkeit getan hat. Und sandte hin und ließ ihn trösten durch seine Knechte über seinen Vater. Da nun die Knechte Davids ins Land der Kinder Ammon kamen,(dhs) 2Sa 10:2 Then David said, "I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me." So David sent by the hand of his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the people of Ammon.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:3 ============ 2Sa 10:3 the princes of the Ammonites said to Hanun their lord, "Do you think that David is honoring your father because he has sent consolers to you? Has David not sent his servants to you in order to search the city, to spy it out and overthrow it?"(nasb) 2Sa 10:3 καὶ εἶπον οἱ ἄρχοντες υἱῶν Αμμων πρὸς Αννων τὸν κύριον αὐτῶν μὴ παρὰ τὸ δοξάζειν Δαυιδ τὸν πατέρα σου ἐνώπιόν σου ὅτι ἀπέστειλέν σοι παρακαλοῦντας ἀλλ᾽ οὐχὶ ὅπως ἐρευνήσωσιν τὴν πόλιν καὶ κατασκοπήσωσιν αὐτὴν καὶ τοῦ κατασκέψασθαι αὐτὴν ἀπέστειλεν Δαυιδ τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ πρὸς σέ (lxx) 2Sa 10:3 dixerunt principes filiorum Ammon ad Hanon dominum suum: Putas quod propter honorem patris tui miserit David ad te consolatores, et non ideo ut investigaret, et exploraret civitatem, et everteret eam, misit David servos suos ad te?(vulgate) 2Sa 10:3 sprachen die Gewaltigen der Kinder Ammon zu ihrem Herrn, Hanun: Meinst du, daß David deinen Vater ehren wolle, daß er Tröster zu dir gesandt hat? Meinst du nicht, daß er darum hat seine Knechte zu dir gesandt, daß er die Stadt erforsche und erkunde und umkehre?(dhs) 2Sa 10:3 And the princes of the people of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, "Do you think that David really honors your father because he has sent comforters to you? Has David not rather sent his servants to you to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it?"(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:4 ============ 2Sa 10:4 So Hanun took David's servants and shaved off half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle as far as their hips, and sent them away.(nasb) 2Sa 10:4 καὶ ἔλαβεν Αννων τοὺς παῖδας Δαυιδ καὶ ἐξύρησεν τοὺς πώγωνας αὐτῶν καὶ ἀπέκοψεν τοὺς μανδύας αὐτῶν ἐν τῷ ἡμίσει ἕως τῶν ἰσχίων αὐτῶν καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτούς (lxx) 2Sa 10:4 Tulit itaque Hanon servos David, rasitque dimidiam partem barbæ eorum et præscidit vestes eorum medias usque ad nates, et dimisit eos.(vulgate) 2Sa 10:4 Da nahm Hanun die Knechte David und schor ihnen den Bart halb und schnitt ihnen die Kleider halb ab bis an den Gürtel und ließ sie gehen.(dhs) 2Sa 10:4 Therefore Hanun took David's servants, shaved off half of their beards, cut off their garments in the middle, at their buttocks, and sent them away.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:5 ============ 2Sa 10:5 When they told it to David, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly humiliated. And the king said, "Stay at Jericho until your beards grow, and then return."(nasb) 2Sa 10:5 καὶ ἀνήγγειλαν τῷ Δαυιδ ὑπὲρ τῶν ἀνδρῶν καὶ ἀπέστειλεν εἰς ἀπαντὴν αὐτῶν ὅτι ἦσαν οἱ ἄνδρες ἠτιμασμένοι σφόδρα καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεύς καθίσατε ἐν Ιεριχω ἕως τοῦ ἀνατεῖλαι τοὺς πώγωνας ὑμῶν καὶ ἐπιστραφήσεσθε (lxx) 2Sa 10:5 Quod cum nuntiatum esset David, misit in occursum eorum: erant enim viri confusi turpiter valde, et mandavit eis David: Manete in Jericho donec crescat barba vestra, et tunc revertimini.~(vulgate) 2Sa 10:5 Da das David ward angesagt, sandte er ihnen entgegen; denn die Männer waren sehr geschändet. Und der König ließ ihnen sagen: Bleibt zu Jericho, bis euer Bart gewachsen; so kommt dann wieder.(dhs) 2Sa 10:5 When they told David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, "Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return."(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:6 ============ 2Sa 10:6 Now when the sons of Ammon saw that they had become odious to David, the sons of Ammon sent and hired the Arameans of Beth-rehob and the Arameans of Zobah, 20,000 foot soldiers, and the king of Maacah with 1,000 men, and the men of Tob with 12,000 men.(nasb) 2Sa 10:6 καὶ εἶδαν οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων ὅτι κατῃσχύνθησαν ὁ λαὸς Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέστειλαν οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων καὶ ἐμισθώσαντο τὴν Συρίαν Βαιθροωβ εἴκοσι χιλιάδας πεζῶν καὶ τὸν βασιλέα Μααχα χιλίους ἄνδρας καὶ Ιστωβ δώδεκα χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν (lxx) 2Sa 10:6 Videntes autem filii Ammon quod injuriam fecissent David, miserunt, et conduxerunt mercede Syrum Rohob, et Syrum Soba, viginti millia peditum, et a rege Maacha mille viros, et ab Istob duodecim millia virorum.(vulgate) 2Sa 10:6 Da aber die Kinder Ammon sahen, daß sie vor David stinkend geworden waren, sandten sie hin und dingten die Syrer des Hauses Rehob und die Syrer zu Zoba, zwanzigtausend Mann Fußvolk, und von dem König Maachas tausend Mann und von Is-Tob zwölftausend Mann.(dhs) 2Sa 10:6 When the people of Ammon saw that they had made themselves repulsive to David, the people of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand foot soldiers; and from the king of Maacah one thousand men, and from Ish-Tob twelve thousand men.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:7 ============ 2Sa 10:7 When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army, the mighty men.(nasb) 2Sa 10:7 καὶ ἤκουσεν Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τὸν Ιωαβ καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν δύναμιν τοὺς δυνατούς (lxx) 2Sa 10:7 Quod cum audisset David, misit Joab et omnem exercitum bellatorum.(vulgate) 2Sa 10:7 Da das David hörte, sandte er Joab mit dem ganzen Heer der Kriegsleute.(dhs) 2Sa 10:7 Now when David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:8 ============ 2Sa 10:8 The sons of Ammon came out and drew up in battle array at the entrance of the city, while the Arameans of Zobah and of Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah were by themselves in the field.(nasb) 2Sa 10:8 καὶ ἐξῆλθαν οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων καὶ παρετάξαντο πόλεμον παρὰ τῇ θύρᾳ τῆς πύλης καὶ Συρία Σουβα καὶ Ροωβ καὶ Ιστωβ καὶ Μααχα μόνοι ἐν ἀγρῷ (lxx) 2Sa 10:8 Egressi sunt ergo filii Ammon, et direxerunt aciem ante ipsum introitum portæ: Syrus autem Soba, et Rohob, et Istob, et Maacha, seorsum erant in campo.(vulgate) 2Sa 10:8 Und die Kinder Ammon zogen aus und rüsteten sich zum Streit vor dem Eingang des Tors. Die Syrer aber von Zoba, von Rehob, von Is-Tob und von Maacha waren allein im Felde.(dhs) 2Sa 10:8 Then the people of Ammon came out and put themselves in battle array at the entrance of the gate. And the Syrians of Zoba, Beth Rehob, Ish-Tob, and Maacah were by themselves in the field.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:9 ============ 2Sa 10:9 Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him in front and in the rear, he selected from all the choice men of Israel, and arrayed them against the Arameans.(nasb) 2Sa 10:9 καὶ εἶδεν Ιωαβ ὅτι ἐγενήθη πρὸς αὐτὸν ἀντιπρόσωπον τοῦ πολέμου ἐκ τοῦ κατὰ πρόσωπον ἐξ ἐναντίας καὶ ἐκ τοῦ ὄπισθεν καὶ ἐπέλεξεν ἐκ πάντων τῶν νεανίσκων Ισραηλ καὶ παρετάξαντο ἐξ ἐναντίας Συρίας (lxx) 2Sa 10:9 Videns igitur Joab quod præparatum esset adversum se prælium et ex adverso et post tergum, elegit ex omnibus electis Israël, et instruxit aciem contra Syrum:(vulgate) 2Sa 10:9 Da Joab nun sah, daß der Streit auf ihn gestellt war vorn und hinten, erwählte er aus aller jungen Mannschaft in Israel und stellte sich wider die Syrer.(dhs) 2Sa 10:9 When Joab saw that the battle line was against him before and behind, he chose some of Israel's best and put them in battle array against the Syrians.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:10 ============ 2Sa 10:10 But the remainder of the people he placed in the hand of Abishai his brother, and he arrayed them against the sons of Ammon.(nasb) 2Sa 10:10 καὶ τὸ κατάλοιπον τοῦ λαοῦ ἔδωκεν ἐν χειρὶ Αβεσσα τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ παρετάξαντο ἐξ ἐναντίας υἱῶν Αμμων (lxx) 2Sa 10:10 reliquam autem partem populi tradidit Abisai fratri suo, qui direxit aciem adversus filios Ammon.(vulgate) 2Sa 10:10 Und das übrige Volk tat er unter die Hand seines Bruders Abisai, daß er sich rüstete wider dir Kinder Ammon,(dhs) 2Sa 10:10 And the rest of the people he put under the command of Abishai his brother, that he might set them in battle array against the people of Ammon.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:11 ============ 2Sa 10:11 He said, "If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you shall help me, but if the sons of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come to help you.(nasb) 2Sa 10:11 καὶ εἶπεν ἐὰν κραταιωθῇ Συρία ὑπὲρ ἐμέ καὶ ἔσεσθέ μοι εἰς σωτηρίαν καὶ ἐὰν υἱοὶ Αμμων κραταιωθῶσιν ὑπὲρ σέ καὶ ἐσόμεθα τοῦ σῶσαί σε (lxx) 2Sa 10:11 Et ait Joab: Si prævaluerint adversum me Syri, eris mihi in adjutorium: si autem filii Ammon prævaluerint adversum te, auxiliabor tibi.(vulgate) 2Sa 10:11 und sprach: Werden mir die Syrer überlegen sein, so komm mir zu Hilfe; werden aber die Kinder Ammon dir überlegen sein, so will ich dir zu Hilfe kommen.(dhs) 2Sa 10:11 Then he said, "If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the people of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:12 ============ 2Sa 10:12 Be strong, and let us show ourselves courageous for the sake of our people and for the cities of our God; and may the Lord do what is good in His sight."(nasb) 2Sa 10:12 ἀνδρίζου καὶ κραταιωθῶμεν ὑπὲρ τοῦ λαοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ περὶ τῶν πόλεων τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ κύριος ποιήσει τὸ ἀγαθὸν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτοῦ (lxx) 2Sa 10:12 Esto vir fortis, et pugnemus pro populo nostro et civitate Dei nostri: Dominus autem faciet quod bonum est in conspectu suo.(vulgate) 2Sa 10:12 Sei getrost und laß uns stark sein für unser Volk und für die Städte unsers Gottes; der HERR aber tue, was ihm gefällt.(dhs) 2Sa 10:12 Be of good courage, and let us be strong for our people and for the cities of our God. And may the Lord do what is good in His sight."(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:13 ============ 2Sa 10:13 So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to the battle against the Arameans, and they fled before him.(nasb) 2Sa 10:13 καὶ προσῆλθεν Ιωαβ καὶ ὁ λαὸς αὐτοῦ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ εἰς πόλεμον πρὸς Συρίαν καὶ ἔφυγαν ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ (lxx) 2Sa 10:13 Iniit itaque Joab, et populus qui erat cum eo, certamen contra Syros: qui statim fugerunt a facie ejus.(vulgate) 2Sa 10:13 Und Joab machte sich herzu mit dem Volk, das bei ihm war, zu streiten wider die Syrer; und sie flohen vor ihm.(dhs) 2Sa 10:13 So Joab and the people who were with him drew near for the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:14 ============ 2Sa 10:14 When the sons of Ammon saw that the Arameans fled, they also fled before Abishai and entered the city. Also kehrte Joab um von den Kindern Ammon und kam gen Jerusalem.(dhs) 2Sa 10:14 When the people of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fleeing, they also fled before Abishai, and entered the city. And the Arameans arrayed themselves to meet David and fought against him.(nasb) 2Sa 10:17 καὶ ἀνηγγέλη τῷ Δαυιδ καὶ συνήγαγεν τὸν πάντα Ισραηλ καὶ διέβη τὸν Ιορδάνην καὶ παρεγένοντο εἰς Αιλαμ καὶ παρετάξατο Συρία ἀπέναντι Δαυιδ καὶ ἐπολέμησαν μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ (lxx) 2Sa 10:17 Quod cum nuntiatum esset David, contraxit omnem Israëlem, et transivit Jordanem, venitque in Helam: et direxerunt aciem Syri ex adverso David, et pugnaverunt contra eum.(vulgate) 2Sa 10:17 Da das David ward angesagt, sammelte er zuhauf das ganze Israel und zog über den Jordan und kam gen Helam. Und die Syrer stellten sich wider David, mit ihm zu streiten.(dhs) 2Sa 10:17 When it was told David, he gathered all Israel, crossed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in battle array against David and fought with him.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:18 ============ 2Sa 10:18 But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed 700 charioteers of the Arameans and 40,000 horsemen and struck down Shobach the commander of their army, and he died there.(nasb) 2Sa 10:18 καὶ ἔφυγεν Συρία ἀπὸ προσώπου Ισραηλ καὶ ἀνεῖλεν Δαυιδ ἐκ τῆς Συρίας ἑπτακόσια ἅρματα καὶ τεσσαράκοντα χιλιάδας ἱππέων καὶ τὸν Σωβακ τὸν ἄρχοντα τῆς δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ ἐπάταξεν καὶ ἀπέθανεν ἐκεῖ (lxx) 2Sa 10:18 Fugeruntque Syri a facie Israël, et occidit David de Syris septingentos currus, et quadraginta millia equitum: et Sobach principem militiæ percussit, qui statim mortuus est.(vulgate) 2Sa 10:18 Aber die Syrer flohen vor Israel. Und David verderbte der Syrer siebenhundert Wagen und vierzigtausend Reiter; dazu Sobach, den Feldhauptmann, schlug er, daß er daselbst starb.(dhs) 2Sa 10:18 Then the Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven hundred charioteers and forty thousand horsemen of the Syrians, and struck Shobach the commander of their army, who died there.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 10:19 ============ 2Sa 10:19 When all the kings, servants of Hadadezer, saw that they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Arameans feared to help the sons of Ammon anymore.(nasb) 2Sa 10:19 καὶ εἶδαν πάντες οἱ βασιλεῖς οἱ δοῦλοι Αδρααζαρ ὅτι ἔπταισαν ἔμπροσθεν Ισραηλ καὶ ηὐτομόλησαν μετὰ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐδούλευσαν αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐφοβήθη Συρία τοῦ σῶσαι ἔτι τοὺς υἱοὺς Αμμων (lxx) 2Sa 10:19 Videntes autem universi reges qui erant in præsidio Adarezer, se victos esse ab Israël, expaverunt, et fugerunt quinquaginta et octo millia coram Israël. Et fecerunt pacem cum Israël, et servierunt eis: timueruntque Syri auxilium præbere ultra filiis Ammon.(vulgate) 2Sa 10:19 Da aber die Könige, die unter Hadadeser waren, sahen, daß sie geschlagen waren vor Israel, machten sie Frieden mit Israel und wurden ihnen untertan.
