Today's Date: ======= Esther 1:1 ============ Est 1:1 Now it took place in the days of Ahasuerus, the Ahasuerus who reigned from India to Ethiopia over 127 provinces,(nasb) Est 1:1 ἔτους δευτέρου βασιλεύοντος Ἀρταξέρξου τοῦ μεγάλου τῇ μιᾷ τοῦ Νισα ἐνύπνιον εἶδεν Μαρδοχαῖος ὁ τοῦ Ιαϊρου τοῦ Σεμεϊου τοῦ Κισαιου ἐκ φυλῆς Βενιαμιν Est 1:1 In diebus Assueri, qui regnavit ab India usque Æthiopiam super centum viginti septem provincias,(vulgate) Est 1:1 Zu den Zeiten Ahasveros (der da König war von Indien bis an Mohrenland über hundert und siebenundzwanzig Länder)(dhs) Est 1:1 Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus (this was the Ahasuerus who reigned over one hundred and twenty-seven provinces, from India to Ethiopia),(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:2 ============ Est 1:2 in those days as King Ahasuerus sat on his royal throne which was at the citadel in Susa,(nasb) Est 1:2 ἐν αὐταῖς ταῖς ἡμέραις ὅτε ἐθρονίσθη ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἀρταξέρξης ἐν Σούσοις τῇ πόλει (lxx) Est 1:2 quando sedit in solio regni sui, Susan civitas regni ejus exordium fuit.(vulgate) Est 1:2 und da er auf seinem königlichen Stuhl saß zu Schloß Susan,(dhs) Est 1:2 in those days when King Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the citadel,(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:3 ============ Est 1:3 in the third year of his reign he gave a banquet for all his princes and attendants, the army officers of Persia and Media, the nobles and the princes of his provinces being in his presence.(nasb) Est 1:3 ἐν τῷ τρίτῳ ἔτει βασιλεύοντος αὐτοῦ δοχὴν ἐποίησεν τοῖς φίλοις καὶ τοῖς λοιποῖς ἔθνεσιν καὶ τοῖς Περσῶν καὶ Μήδων ἐνδόξοις καὶ τοῖς ἄρχουσιν τῶν σατραπῶν (lxx) Est 1:3 Tertio igitur anno imperii sui fecit grande convivium cunctis principibus et pueris suis, fortissimis Persarum, et Medorum inclytis, et præfectis provinciarum coram se,(vulgate) Est 1:3 im dritten Jahr seines Königreichs, machte er bei sich ein Mahl allen seinen Fürsten und Knechten, den Gewaltigen in Persien und Medien, den Landpflegern und Obersten in seinen Ländern,(dhs) Est 1:3 that in the third year of his reign he made a feast for all his officials and servants--the powers of Persia and Media, the nobles, and the princes of the provinces being before him--(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:4 ============ Est 1:4 And he displayed the riches of his royal glory and the splendor of his great majesty for many days, 180 days.(nasb) Est 1:4 καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα μετὰ τὸ δεῖξαι αὐτοῖς τὸν πλοῦτον τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν δόξαν τῆς εὐφροσύνης τοῦ πλούτου αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ ἡμέρας ἑκατὸν ὀγδοήκοντα (lxx) Est 1:4 ut ostenderet divitias gloriæ regni sui, ac magnitudinem atque jactantiam potentiæ suæ, multo tempore, centum videlicet et octoginta diebus.(vulgate) Est 1:4 daß er sehen ließe den herrlichen Reichtum seines Königreichs und die köstliche Pracht seiner Majestät viele Tage lang, hundert und achtzig Tage.(dhs) Est 1:4 when he showed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the splendor of his excellent majesty for many days, one hundred and eighty days in all.(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:5 ============ Est 1:5 When these days were completed, the king gave a banquet lasting seven days for all the people who were present at the citadel in Susa, from the greatest to the least, in the court of the garden of the king's palace.(nasb) Est 1:5 ὅτε δὲ ἀνεπληρώθησαν αἱ ἡμέραι τοῦ γάμου ἐποίησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πότον τοῖς ἔθνεσιν τοῖς εὑρεθεῖσιν εἰς τὴν πόλιν ἐπὶ ἡμέρας ἓξ ἐν αὐλῇ οἴκου τοῦ βασιλέως (lxx) Est 1:5 Cumque implerentur dies convivii, invitavit omnem populum, qui inventus est in Susan, a maximo usque ad minimum: et jussit septem diebus convivium præparari in vestibulo horti, et nemoris quod regio cultu et manu consitum erat.(vulgate) Est 1:5 Und da die Tage aus waren, machte der König ein Mahl allem Volk, das zu Schloß Susan war, Großen und Kleinen, sieben Tage lang im Hofe des Gartens am Hause des Königs.(dhs) Est 1:5 And when these days were completed, the king made a feast lasting seven days for all the people who were present in Shushan the citadel, from great to small, in the court of the garden of the king's palace.(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:6 ============ Est 1:6 There were hangings of fine white and violet linen held by cords of fine purple linen on silver rings and marble columns, and couches of gold and silver on a mosaic pavement of porphyry, marble, mother-of-pearl and precious stones.(nasb) Est 1:6 κεκοσμημένῃ βυσσίνοις καὶ καρπασίνοις τεταμένοις ἐπὶ σχοινίοις βυσσίνοις καὶ πορφυροῖς ἐπὶ κύβοις χρυσοῖς καὶ ἀργυροῖς ἐπὶ στύλοις παρίνοις καὶ λιθίνοις κλῖναι χρυσαῖ καὶ ἀργυραῖ ἐπὶ λιθοστρώτου σμαραγδίτου λίθου καὶ πιννίνου καὶ παρίνου λίθου καὶ στρωμναὶ διαφανεῖς ποικίλως διηνθισμέναι κύκλῳ ῥόδα πεπασμένα (lxx) Est 1:6 Et pendebant ex omni parte tentoria ærii coloris et carbasini ac hyacinthini, sustentata funibus byssinis atque purpureis, qui eburneis circulis inserti erant, et columnis marmoreis fulciebantur. Lectuli quoque aurei et argentei, super pavimentum smaragdino et pario stratum lapide, dispositi erant: quod mira varietate pictura decorabat.(vulgate) Est 1:6 Da hingen weiße, rote und blaue Tücher, mit leinenen und scharlachnen Seilen gefaßt, in silbernen Ringen auf Marmorsäulen. Die Bänke waren golden und silbern auf Pflaster von grünem, weißem, gelbem und schwarzen Marmor.(dhs) Est 1:6 There were white and blue linen curtains fastened with cords of fine linen and purple on silver rods and marble pillars; and the couches were of gold and silver on a mosaic pavement of alabaster, turquoise, and white and black marble.(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:7 ============ Est 1:7 Drinks were served in golden vessels of various kinds, and the royal wine was plentiful according to the king's bounty.(nasb) Est 1:7 ποτήρια χρυσᾶ καὶ ἀργυρᾶ καὶ ἀνθράκινον κυλίκιον προκείμενον ἀπὸ ταλάντων τρισμυρίων οἶνος πολὺς καὶ ἡδύς ὃν αὐτὸς ὁ βασιλεὺς ἔπινεν (lxx) Est 1:7 Bibebant autem qui invitati erant aureis poculis, et aliis atque aliis vasis cibi inferebantur. Vinum quoque, ut magnificentia regia dignum erat, abundans, et præcipuum ponebatur.(vulgate) Est 1:7 Und das Getränk trug man in goldenen Gefäßen und immer andern und andern Gefäßen, und königlichen Wein die Menge, wie denn der König vermochte.(dhs) Est 1:7 And they served drinks in golden vessels, each vessel being different from the other, with royal wine in abundance, according to the generosity of the king.(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:8 ============ Est 1:8 The drinking was done according to the law, there was no compulsion, for so the king had given orders to each official of his household that he should do according to the desires of each person.(nasb) Est 1:8 ὁ δὲ πότος οὗτος οὐ κατὰ προκείμενον νόμον ἐγένετο οὕτως δὲ ἠθέλησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ ἐπέταξεν τοῖς οἰκονόμοις ποιῆσαι τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ καὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων (lxx) Est 1:8 Nec erat qui nolentes cogeret ad bibendum, sed sicut rex statuerat, præponens mensis singulos de principibus suis ut sumeret unusquisque quod vellet.(vulgate) Est 1:8 Und man setzte niemand, was er trinken sollte; denn der König hatte allen Vorstehern befohlen, daß ein jeglicher sollte tun, wie es ihm wohl gefiel.(dhs) Est 1:8 In accordance with the law, the drinking was not compulsory; for so the king had ordered all the officers of his household, that they should do according to each man's pleasure.(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:9 ============ Est 1:9 Queen Vashti also gave a banquet for the women in the palace which belonged to King Ahasuerus.(nasb) Est 1:9 καὶ Αστιν ἡ βασίλισσα ἐποίησε πότον ταῖς γυναιξὶν ἐν τοῖς βασιλείοις ὅπου ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἀρταξέρξης (lxx) Est 1:9 Vasthi quoque regina fecit convivium feminarum in palatio, ubi rex Assuerus manere consueverat.~(vulgate) Est 1:9 Und die Königin Vasthi machte auch ein Mahl für die Weiber im königlichen Hause des Königs Ahasveros.(dhs) Est 1:9 Queen Vashti also made a feast for the women in the royal palace which belonged to King Ahasuerus.(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:10 ============ Est 1:10 On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar and Carkas, the seven eunuchs who served in the presence of King Ahasuerus,(nasb) Est 1:10 ἐν δὲ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ ἡδέως γενόμενος ὁ βασιλεὺς εἶπεν τῷ Αμαν καὶ Βαζαν καὶ Θαρρα καὶ Βωραζη καὶ Ζαθολθα καὶ Αβαταζα καὶ Θαραβα τοῖς ἑπτὰ εὐνούχοις τοῖς διακόνοις τοῦ βασιλέως Ἀρταξέρξου (lxx) Est 1:10 Itaque die septimo, cum rex esset hilarior, et post nimiam potationem incaluisset mero, præcepit Maumam, et Bazatha, et Harbona, et Bagatha, et Abgatha, et Zethar, et Charchas, septem eunuchis qui in conspectu ejus ministrabant,(vulgate) Est 1:10 Und am siebenten Tage, da der König gutes Muts war vom Wein, hieß er Mehuman, Bistha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Sethar und Charkas, die sieben Kämmerer, die vor dem König Ahasveros dienten,(dhs) Est 1:10 On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, seven eunuchs who served in the presence of King Ahasuerus,(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:11 ============ Est 1:11 to bring Queen Vashti before the king with her royal crown in order to display her beauty to the people and the princes, for she was beautiful.(nasb) Est 1:11 εἰσαγαγεῖν τὴν βασίλισσαν πρὸς αὐτὸν βασιλεύειν αὐτὴν καὶ περιθεῖναι αὐτῇ τὸ διάδημα καὶ δεῖξαι αὐτὴν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἄρχουσιν καὶ τοῖς ἔθνεσιν τὸ κάλλος αὐτῆς ὅτι καλὴ ἦν (lxx) Est 1:11 ut introducerent reginam Vasthi coram rege, posito super caput ejus diademate, ut ostenderet cunctis populis et principibus pulchritudinem illius: erat enim pulchra valde.(vulgate) Est 1:11 daß sie die Königin Vasthi holten vor den König mit der königlichen Krone, daß er den Völkern und Fürsten zeigte ihre Schöne; denn sie war schön.(dhs) Est 1:11 to bring Queen Vashti before the king, wearing her royal crown, in order to show her beauty to the people and the officials, for she was beautiful to behold.(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:12 ============ Est 1:12 But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king's command delivered by the eunuchs. Then the king became very angry and his wrath burned within him.(nasb) Est 1:12 καὶ οὐκ εἰσήκουσεν αὐτοῦ Αστιν ἡ βασίλισσα ἐλθεῖν μετὰ τῶν εὐνούχων καὶ ἐλυπήθη ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ ὠργίσθη (lxx) Est 1:12 Quæ renuit, et ad regis imperium quod per eunuchos mandaverat, venire contempsit. Unde iratus rex, et nimio furore succensus,(vulgate) Est 1:12 Aber die Königin Vasthi wollte nicht kommen nach dem Wort des Königs durch seine Kämmerer. Da ward der König sehr zornig, und sein Grimm entbrannte in ihm.(dhs) Est 1:12 But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king's command brought by his eunuchs; therefore the king was furious, and his anger burned within him.(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:13 ============ Est 1:13 Then the king said to the wise men who understood the times--for it was the custom of the king so to speak before all who knew law and justice(nasb) Est 1:13 καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς φίλοις αὐτοῦ κατὰ ταῦτα ἐλάλησεν Αστιν ποιήσατε οὖν περὶ τούτου νόμον καὶ κρίσιν (lxx) Est 1:13 interrogavit sapientes, qui ex more regio semper ei aderant, et illorum faciebat cuncta consilio, scientium leges, ac jura majorum(vulgate) Est 1:13 Und der König sprach zu den Weisen, die sich auf die Zeiten verstanden (denn des Königs Sachen mußten geschehen vor allen, die sich auf Recht und Händel verstanden;(dhs) Est 1:13 Then the king said to the wise men who understood the times (for this was the king's manner toward all who knew law and justice,(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:14 ============ Est 1:14 and were close to him: Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media who had access to the king's presence and sat in the first place in the kingdom--(nasb) Est 1:14 καὶ προσῆλθεν αὐτῷ Αρκεσαιος καὶ Σαρσαθαιος καὶ Μαλησεαρ οἱ ἄρχοντες Περσῶν καὶ Μήδων οἱ ἐγγὺς τοῦ βασιλέως οἱ πρῶτοι παρακαθήμενοι τῷ βασιλεῖ (lxx) Est 1:14 (erant autem primi et proximi, Charsena, et Sethar, et Admatha, et Tharsis, et Mares, et Marsana, et Mamuchan, septem duces Persarum, atque Medorum, qui videbant faciem regis, et primi post eum residere soliti erant):(vulgate) Est 1:14 die nächsten aber die bei ihm waren Charsena, Sethar, Admatha, Tharsis, Meres, Marsena und Memuchan, die sieben Fürsten der Perser und Meder, die das Angesicht des Königs sahen und saßen obenan im Königreich),(dhs) Est 1:14 those closest to him being Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, who had access to the king's presence, and who ranked highest in the kingdom):(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:15 ============ Est 1:15 "According to law, what is to be done with Queen Vashti, because she did not obey the command of King Ahasuerus delivered by the eunuchs?"(nasb) Est 1:15 καὶ ἀπήγγειλαν αὐτῷ κατὰ τοὺς νόμους ὡς δεῖ ποιῆσαι Αστιν τῇ βασιλίσσῃ ὅτι οὐκ ἐποίησεν τὰ ὑπὸ τοῦ βασιλέως προσταχθέντα διὰ τῶν εὐνούχων (lxx) Est 1:15 cui sententiæ Vasthi regina subjaceret, quæ Assueri regis imperium, quod per eunuchos mandaverat, facere noluisset.(vulgate) Est 1:15 was für ein Recht man an der Königin Vasthi tun sollte, darum daß sie nicht getan hatte nach dem Wort des Königs durch seine Kämmerer.(dhs) Est 1:15 "What shall we do to Queen Vashti, according to law, because she did not obey the command of King Ahasuerus brought to her by the eunuchs?"(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:16 ============ Est 1:16 In the presence of the king and the princes, Memucan said, "Queen Vashti has wronged not only the king but also all the princes and all the peoples who are in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus.(nasb) Est 1:16 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ Μουχαιος πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας οὐ τὸν βασιλέα μόνον ἠδίκησεν Αστιν ἡ βασίλισσα ἀλλὰ καὶ πάντας τοὺς ἄρχοντας καὶ τοὺς ἡγουμένους τοῦ βασιλέως (lxx) Est 1:16 Responditque Mamuchan, audiente rege atque principibus: Non solum regem læsit regina Vasthi, sed et omnes populos et principes qui sunt in cunctis provinciis regis Assueri.(vulgate) Est 1:16 Da sprach Memuchan vor dem König und den Fürsten: Die Königin Vasthi hat nicht allein an dem König übel getan, sondern auch an allen Fürsten und an allen Völkern in allen Landen des Königs Ahasveros.(dhs) Est 1:16 And Memucan answered before the king and the princes: "Queen Vashti has not only wronged the king, but also all the princes, and all the people who are in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus.(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:17 ============ Est 1:17 For the queen's conduct will become known to all the women causing them to look with contempt on their husbands by saying, 'King Ahasuerus commanded Queen Vashti to be brought in to his presence, but she did not come.'(nasb) Est 1:17 καὶ γὰρ διηγήσατο αὐτοῖς τὰ ῥήματα τῆς βασιλίσσης καὶ ὡς ἀντεῖπεν τῷ βασιλεῖ ὡς οὖν ἀντεῖπεν τῷ βασιλεῖ Ἀρταξέρξῃ (lxx) Est 1:17 Egredietur enim sermo reginæ ad omnes mulieres, ut contemnant viros suos, et dicant: Rex Assuerus jussit ut regina Vasthi intraret ad eum, et illa noluit.(vulgate) Est 1:17 Denn es wird solche Tat der Königin auskommen zu allen Weibern, daß sie ihre Männer verachten vor ihren Augen und werden sagen: Der König Ahasveros hieß die Königin Vasthi vor sich kommen; aber sie wollte nicht.(dhs) Est 1:17 For the queen's behavior will become known to all women, so that they will despise their husbands in their eyes, when they report, 'King Ahasuerus commanded Queen Vashti to be brought in before him, but she did not come.'(nkjv) ======= Esther 1:18 ============ Est 1:18 This day the ladies of Persia and Media who have heard of the queen's conduct will speak in the same way to all the king's princes, and there will be plenty of contempt and anger.(nasb) Est 1:18 οὕτως σήμερον αἱ τυραννίδες αἱ λοιπαὶ τῶν ἀρχόντων Περσῶν καὶ Μήδων ἀκούσασαι τὰ τῷ βασιλεῖ λεχθέντα ὑπ᾽ αὐτῆς τολμήσουσιν ὁμοίως ἀτιμάσαι τοὺς ἄνδρας αὐτῶν (lxx) Est 1:18 Atque hoc exemplo omnes principum conjuges Persarum atque Medorum parvipendent imperia maritorum: unde regis justa est indignatio.(vulgate) Est 1:18 So werden nun die Fürstinnen in Persien und Medien auch so sagen zu allen Fürsten des Königs, wenn sie solche Tat der Königin hören; so wird sich Verachtens und Zorn genug erheben.(dhs) Est 1:18 This very day the noble ladies of Persia and Media will say to all the king's officials that they have heard of the behavior of the queen.
