For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.(nasb) Pro 23:5 ἐὰν ἐπιστήσῃς τὸ σὸν ὄμμα πρὸς αὐτόν οὐδαμοῦ φανεῖται κατεσκεύασται γὰρ αὐτῷ πτέρυγες ὥσπερ ἀετοῦ καὶ ὑποστρέφει εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ προεστηκότος αὐτοῦ (lxx) Pro 23:5 Ne erigas oculos tuos ad opes quas non potes habere, quia facient sibi pennas quasi aquilæ, et volabunt in cælum.(vulgate) Pro 23:5 Laß dein Augen nicht fliegen nach dem, was du nicht haben kannst; denn dasselbe macht sich Flügel wie ein Adler und fliegt gen Himmel.(dhs) Pro 23:5 Will you set your eyes on that which is not? He says to you, "Eat and drink!" But his heart is not with you.(nasb) Pro 23:7 ὃν τρόπον γὰρ εἴ τις καταπίοι τρίχα οὕτως ἐσθίει καὶ πίνει (lxx) Pro 23:7 quoniam in similitudinem arioli et conjectoris æstimat quod ignorat. Comede et bibe, dicet tibi; et mens ejus non est tecum.(vulgate) Pro 23:7 Denn wie ein Gespenst ist er inwendig; er spricht: Iß und trink! und sein Herz ist doch nicht mit dir.(dhs) Pro 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. "Eat and drink!" he says to you, But his heart is not with you.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 23:8 ============ Pro 23:8 You will vomit up the morsel you have eaten, And waste your compliments.(nasb) Pro 23:8 μηδὲ πρὸς σὲ εἰσαγάγῃς αὐτὸν καὶ φάγῃς τὸν ψωμόν σου μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἐξεμέσει γὰρ αὐτὸν καὶ λυμανεῖται τοὺς λόγους σου τοὺς καλούς (lxx) Pro 23:8 Cibos quos comederas evomes, et perdes pulchros sermones tuos.(vulgate) Pro 23:8 Deine Bissen die du gegessen hattest, mußt du ausspeien, und mußt deine freundlichen Worte verloren haben.(dhs) Pro 23:8 The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit up, And waste your pleasant words.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 23:9 ============ Pro 23:9 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words.(nasb) Pro 23:9 εἰς ὦτα ἄφρονος μηδὲν λέγε μήποτε μυκτηρίσῃ τοὺς συνετοὺς λόγους σου (lxx) Pro 23:9 In auribus insipientium ne loquaris, qui despicient doctrinam eloquii tui.(vulgate) Pro 23:9 Rede nicht vor des Narren Ohren; Er geht glatt ein;(dhs) Pro 23:31 Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it swirls around smoothly;(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 23:32 ============ Pro 23:32 At the last it bites like a serpent And stings like a viper.(nasb) Pro 23:32 τὸ δὲ ἔσχατον ὥσπερ ὑπὸ ὄφεως πεπληγὼς ἐκτείνεται καὶ ὥσπερ ὑπὸ κεράστου διαχεῖται αὐτῷ ὁ ἰός (lxx) Pro 23:32 sed in novissimo mordebit ut coluber, et sicut regulus venena diffundet.(vulgate) Pro 23:32 aber danach beißt er wie eine Schlange und sticht wie eine Otter.(dhs) Pro 23:32 At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like a viper.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 23:33 ============ Pro 23:33 Your eyes will see strange things And your mind will utter perverse things.(nasb) Pro 23:33 οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου ὅταν ἴδωσιν ἀλλοτρίαν τὸ στόμα σου τότε λαλήσει σκολιά (lxx) Pro 23:33 Oculi tui videbunt extraneas, et cor tuum loquetur perversa.(vulgate) Pro 23:33 So werden deine Augen nach andern Weibern sehen, und dein Herz wird verkehrte Dinge reden,(dhs) Pro 23:33 Your eyes will see strange things, And your heart will utter perverse things.(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 23:34 ============ Pro 23:34 And you will be like one who lies down in the middle of the sea, Or like one who lies down on the top of a mast.(nasb) Pro 23:34 καὶ κατακείσῃ ὥσπερ ἐν καρδίᾳ θαλάσσης καὶ ὥσπερ κυβερνήτης ἐν πολλῷ κλύδωνι (lxx) Pro 23:34 Et eris sicut dormiens in medio mari, et quasi sopitus gubernator, amisso clavo.(vulgate) Pro 23:34 und wirst sein wie einer, der mitten im Meer schläft, und wie einer schläft oben auf dem Mastbaum.(dhs) Pro 23:34 Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, Or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying:(nkjv) ======= Proverbs 23:35 ============ Pro 23:35 "They struck me, but I did not become ill; They beat me, but I did not know it.
