Today's Date: ======= Zephaniah 2:1 ============ Zep 2:1 Gather yourselves together, yes, gather, O nation without shame,(nasb) Zep 2:1 συνάχθητε καὶ συνδέθητε τὸ ἔθνος τὸ ἀπαίδευτον (lxx) Zep 2:1 [Convenite, congregamini, gens non amabilis,(vulgate) Zep 2:1 Sammelt euch und kommt her, ihr feindseliges Volk,(dhs) Zep 2:1 Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together, O undesirable nation,(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:2 ============ Zep 2:2 Before the decree takes effect-- The day passes like the chaff-- Before the burning anger of the Lord comes upon you, Before the day of the Lord's anger comes upon you.(nasb) Zep 2:2 πρὸ τοῦ γενέσθαι ὑμᾶς ὡς ἄνθος παραπορευόμενον πρὸ τοῦ ἐπελθεῖν ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς ὀργὴν κυρίου πρὸ τοῦ ἐπελθεῖν ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς ἡμέραν θυμοῦ κυρίου (lxx) Zep 2:2 priusquam pariat jussio quasi pulverem transeuntem diem, antequam veniat super vos ira furoris Domini, antequam veniat super vos dies indignationis Domini.(vulgate) Zep 2:2 ehe denn das Urteil ausgehe, daß ihr wie die Spreu bei Tage dahin fahrt; ehe denn des HERRN grimmiger Zorn über euch komme; ehe der Tag des Zornes des HERRN über euch komme.(dhs) Zep 2:2 Before the decree is issued, Or the day passes like chaff, Before the Lord's fierce anger comes upon you, Before the day of the Lord's anger comes upon you!(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:3 ============ Zep 2:3 Seek the Lord, All you humble of the earth Who have carried out His ordinances; Seek righteousness, seek humility. Perhaps you will be hidden In the day of the Lord's anger.(nasb) Zep 2:3 ζητήσατε τὸν κύριον πάντες ταπεινοὶ γῆς κρίμα ἐργάζεσθε καὶ δικαιοσύνην ζητήσατε καὶ ἀποκρίνεσθε αὐτά ὅπως σκεπασθῆτε ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ὀργῆς κυρίου (lxx) Zep 2:3 Quærite Dominum, omnes mansueti terræ, qui judicium ejus estis operati; quærite justum, quærite mansuetum, si quomodo abscondamini in die furoris Domini.(vulgate) Zep 2:3 Suchet den HERR, alle ihr Elenden im Lande, die ihr seine Rechte haltet; suchet Gerechtigkeit, suchet Demut, auf daß ihr am Tage des Zornes des HERRN möget verborgen werden.(dhs) Zep 2:3 Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the Lord's anger.(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:4 ============ Zep 2:4 For Gaza will be abandoned And Ashkelon a desolation; Ashdod will be driven out at noon And Ekron will be uprooted.(nasb) Zep 2:4 διότι Γάζα διηρπασμένη ἔσται καὶ Ἀσκαλὼν ἔσται εἰς ἀφανισμόν καὶ Ἄζωτος μεσημβρίας ἐκριφήσεται καὶ Ακκαρων ἐκριζωθήσεται (lxx) Zep 2:4 Quia Gaza destructa erit, et Ascalon in desertum: Azotum in meridie ejicient, et Accaron eradicabitur.(vulgate) Zep 2:4 Denn Gaza muß verlassen und Askalon wüst werden; Asdod soll am Mittag vertrieben und Ekron ausgewurzelt werden.(dhs) Zep 2:4 For Gaza shall be forsaken, And Ashkelon desolate; They shall drive out Ashdod at noonday, And Ekron shall be uprooted.(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:5 ============ Zep 2:5 Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast, The nation of the Cherethites! The word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines; And I will destroy you So that there will be no inhabitant.(nasb) Zep 2:5 οὐαὶ οἱ κατοικοῦντες τὸ σχοίνισμα τῆς θαλάσσης πάροικοι Κρητῶν λόγος κυρίου ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς Χανααν γῆ ἀλλοφύλων καὶ ἀπολῶ ὑμᾶς ἐκ κατοικίας (lxx) Zep 2:5 Væ qui habitatis funiculum maris, gens perditorum! verbum Domini super vos, Chanaan, terra Philisthinorum; et disperdam te, ita ut non sit inhabitator.(vulgate) Zep 2:5 Weh denen, so am Meer hinab wohnen, dem Volk der Krether! Des HERRN Wort wird über euch kommen, du Kanaan, der Philister Land; ich will dich umbringen, daß niemand mehr da wohnen soll.(dhs) Zep 2:5 Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast, The nation of the Cherethites! The word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines: "I will destroy you; So there shall be no inhabitant."(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:6 ============ Zep 2:6 So the seacoast will be pastures, With caves for shepherds and folds for flocks.(nasb) Zep 2:6 καὶ ἔσται Κρήτη νομὴ ποιμνίων καὶ μάνδρα προβάτων (lxx) Zep 2:6 Et erit funiculus maris requies pastorum, et caulæ pecorum;(vulgate) Zep 2:6 Es sollen am Meer hinab eitel Hirtenhäuser und Schafhürden sein.(dhs) Zep 2:6 The seacoast shall be pastures, With shelters for shepherds and folds for flocks.(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:7 ============ Zep 2:7 And the coast will be For the remnant of the house of Judah, They will pasture on it. In the houses of Ashkelon they will lie down at evening; For the Lord their God will care for them And restore their fortune.(nasb) Zep 2:7 καὶ ἔσται τὸ σχοίνισμα τῆς θαλάσσης τοῖς καταλοίποις οἴκου Ιουδα ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς νεμήσονται ἐν τοῖς οἴκοις Ἀσκαλῶνος δείλης καταλύσουσιν ἀπὸ προσώπου υἱῶν Ιουδα ὅτι ἐπέσκεπται αὐτοὺς κύριος ὁ θεὸς αὐτῶν καὶ ἀπέστρεψε τὴν αἰχμαλωσίαν αὐτῶν (lxx) Zep 2:7 et erit funiculus ejus qui remanserit de domo Juda: ibi pascentur, in domibus Ascalonis ad vesperam requiescent, quia visitabit eos Dominus Deus eorum, et avertet captivitatem eorum.(vulgate) Zep 2:7 Und dasselbe soll den übrigen vom Hause Juda zuteil werden, daß sie darauf weiden sollen. Des Abends sollen sie sich in den Häusern Askalons lagern, wenn sie nun der HERR, ihr Gott, wiederum heimgesucht und ihr Gefängnis gewendet hat.(dhs) Zep 2:7 The coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; They shall feed their flocks there; In the houses of Ashkelon they shall lie down at evening. For the Lord their God will intervene for them, And return their captives.(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:8 ============ Zep 2:8 "I have heard the taunting of Moab And the revilings of the sons of Ammon, With which they have taunted My people And become arrogant against their territory.(nasb) Zep 2:8 ἤκουσα ὀνειδισμοὺς Μωαβ καὶ κονδυλισμοὺς υἱῶν Αμμων ἐν οἷς ὠνείδιζον τὸν λαόν μου καὶ ἐμεγαλύνοντο ἐπὶ τὰ ὅριά μου (lxx) Zep 2:8 Audivi opprobrium Moab, et blasphemias filiorum Ammon, quæ exprobraverunt populo meo, et magnificati sunt super terminos eorum.(vulgate) Zep 2:8 Ich habe das Schmähen Moabs und das Lästern der Kinder Ammon gehört, womit sie mein Volk geschmäht und auf seinen Grenzen sich gerühmt haben.(dhs) Zep 2:8 "I have heard the reproach of Moab, And the insults of the people of Ammon, With which they have reproached My people, And made arrogant threats against their borders.(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:9 ============ Zep 2:9 "Therefore, as I live," declares the Lord of hosts, The God of Israel, "Surely Moab will be like Sodom And the sons of Ammon like Gomorrah" A place possessed by nettles and salt pits, And a perpetual desolation. The remnant of My people will plunder them And the remainder of My nation will inherit them."(nasb) Zep 2:9 διὰ τοῦτο ζῶ ἐγώ λέγει κύριος τῶν δυνάμεων ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ διότι Μωαβ ὡς Σοδομα ἔσται καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων ὡς Γομορρα καὶ Δαμασκὸς ἐκλελειμμένη ὡς θιμωνιὰ ἅλωνος καὶ ἠφανισμένη εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα καὶ οἱ κατάλοιποι λαοῦ μου διαρπῶνται αὐτούς καὶ οἱ κατάλοιποι ἔθνους μου κληρονομήσουσιν αὐτούς (lxx) Zep 2:9 Propterea vivo ego, dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël, quia Moab ut Sodoma erit, et filii Ammon quasi Gomorrha: siccitas spinarum, et acervi salis, et desertum usque in æternum: reliquiæ populi mei diripient eos, et residui gentis meæ possidebunt illos.(vulgate) Zep 2:9 Wohlan, so wahr ich lebe! spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels, Moab soll wie Sodom und die Kinder Ammon wie Gomorra werden, ja wie ein Nesselstrauch und eine Salzgrube und eine ewige Wüste. Die übrigen meines Volkes sollen sie berauben, und die Übriggebliebenen meines Volkes sollen sie erben.(dhs) Zep 2:9 Therefore, as I live," Says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, "Surely Moab shall be like Sodom, And the people of Ammon like Gomorrah-- Overrun with weeds and saltpits, And a perpetual desolation. The residue of My people shall plunder them, And the remnant of My people shall possess them."(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:10 ============ Zep 2:10 This they will have in return for their pride, because they have taunted and become arrogant against the people of the Lord of hosts.(nasb) Zep 2:10 αὕτη αὐτοῖς ἀντὶ τῆς ὕβρεως αὐτῶν διότι ὠνείδισαν καὶ ἐμεγαλύνθησαν ἐπὶ τὸν κύριον τὸν παντοκράτορα (lxx) Zep 2:10 Hoc eis eveniet pro superbia sua, quia blasphemaverunt et magnificati sunt super populum Domini exercituum.(vulgate) Zep 2:10 Das soll ihnen aber begegnen für ihre Hoffart, daß sie des HERRN Zebaoth Volk geschmäht und sich gerühmt haben.(dhs) Zep 2:10 This they shall have for their pride, Because they have reproached and made arrogant threats Against the people of the Lord of hosts.(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:11 ============ Zep 2:11 The Lord will be terrifying to them, for He will starve all the gods of the earth; and all the coastlands of the nations will bow down to Him, everyone from his own place.(nasb) Zep 2:11 ἐπιφανήσεται κύριος ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐξολεθρεύσει πάντας τοὺς θεοὺς τῶν ἐθνῶν τῆς γῆς καὶ προσκυνήσουσιν αὐτῷ ἕκαστος ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ πᾶσαι αἱ νῆσοι τῶν ἐθνῶν (lxx) Zep 2:11 Horribilis Dominus super eos, et attenuabit omnes deos terræ: et adorabunt eum viri de loco suo, omnes insulæ gentium.(vulgate) Zep 2:11 Schrecklich wird der HERR über sie sein, denn er wird alle Götter auf Erden vertilgen; und sollen ihn anbeten alle Inseln der Heiden, ein jeglicher an seinem Ort.(dhs) Zep 2:11 The Lord will be awesome to them, For He will reduce to nothing all the gods of the earth; People shall worship Him, Each one from his place, Indeed all the shores of the nations.(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:12 ============ Zep 2:12 "You also, O Ethiopians, will be slain by My sword."(nasb) Zep 2:12 καὶ ὑμεῖς Αἰθίοπες τραυματίαι ῥομφαίας μού ἐστε (lxx) Zep 2:12 Sed et vos, Æthiopes, interfecti gladio meo eritis.(vulgate) Zep 2:12 Auch sollt ihr Mohren durch mein Schwert erschlagen werden.(dhs) Zep 2:12 "You Ethiopians also, You shall be slain by My sword."(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:13 ============ Zep 2:13 And He will stretch out His hand against the north And destroy Assyria, And He will make Nineveh a desolation, Parched like the wilderness.(nasb) Zep 2:13 καὶ ἐκτενεῖ τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ βορρᾶν καὶ ἀπολεῖ τὸν Ἀσσύριον καὶ θήσει τὴν Νινευη εἰς ἀφανισμὸν ἄνυδρον ὡς ἔρημον (lxx) Zep 2:13 Et extendet manum suam super aquilonem, et perdet Assur, et ponet speciosam in solitudinem, et in invium, et quasi desertum.(vulgate) Zep 2:13 Und er wird seine Hand strecken gen Mitternacht und Assur umbringen. Ninive wird er öde machen, dürr wie eine Wüste,(dhs) Zep 2:13 And He will stretch out His hand against the north, Destroy Assyria, And make Nineveh a desolation, As dry as the wilderness.(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:14 ============ Zep 2:14 Flocks will lie down in her midst, All beasts which range in herds; Both the pelican and the hedgehog Will lodge in the tops of her pillars; Birds will sing in the window, Desolation will be on the threshold; For He has laid bare the cedar work.(nasb) Zep 2:14 καὶ νεμήσονται ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῆς ποίμνια καὶ πάντα τὰ θηρία τῆς γῆς καὶ χαμαιλέοντες καὶ ἐχῖνοι ἐν τοῖς φατνώμασιν αὐτῆς κοιτασθήσονται καὶ θηρία φωνήσει ἐν τοῖς διορύγμασιν αὐτῆς κόρακες ἐν τοῖς πυλῶσιν αὐτῆς διότι κέδρος τὸ ἀνάστημα αὐτῆς (lxx) Zep 2:14 Et accubabunt in medio ejus greges, omnes bestiæ gentium; et onocrotalus et ericius in liminibus ejus morabuntur: vox cantantis in fenestra, corvus in superliminari, quoniam attenuabo robur ejus.(vulgate) Zep 2:14 daß darin sich lagern werden allerlei Tiere bei Haufen; auch Rohrdommeln und Igel werden wohnen in ihren Säulenknäufen, und Vögel werden in den Fenstern singen, und auf der Schwelle wird Verwüstung sein; denn die Zedernbretter sollen abgerissen werden.(dhs) Zep 2:14 The herds shall lie down in her midst, Every beast of the nation. Both the pelican and the bittern Shall lodge on the capitals of her pillars; Their voice shall sing in the windows; Desolation shall be at the threshold; For He will lay bare the cedar work.(nkjv) ======= Zephaniah 2:15 ============ Zep 2:15 This is the exultant city Which dwells securely, Who says in her heart, "I am, and there is no one besides me." How she has become a desolation, A resting place for beasts! Everyone who passes by her will hiss And wave his hand in contempt.(nasb) Zep 2:15 αὕτη ἡ πόλις ἡ φαυλίστρια ἡ κατοικοῦσα ἐπ᾽ ἐλπίδι ἡ λέγουσα ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτῆς ἐγώ εἰμι καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν μετ᾽ ἐμὲ ἔτι πῶς ἐγενήθη εἰς ἀφανισμόν νομὴ θηρίων πᾶς ὁ διαπορευόμενος δι᾽ αὐτῆς συριεῖ καὶ κινήσει τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ (lxx) Zep 2:15 Hæc est civitas gloriosa habitans in confidentia, quæ dicebat in corde suo: Ego sum, et extra me non est alia amplius: quomodo facta est in desertum cubile bestiæ? omnis qui transit per eam sibilabit, et movebit manum suam.](vulgate) Zep 2:15 Das ist die fröhliche Stadt, die so sicher wohnte und sprach in ihrem Herzen: Ich bin's, und keine mehr. Wie ist sie so wüst geworden, daß die Tiere darin wohnen! Und wer vorübergeht, pfeift sie an und klatscht mit der Hand über sie.(dhs) Zep 2:15 This is the rejoicing city That dwelt securely, That said in her heart, "I am it, and there is none besides me."
