Today's Date: ======= Genesis 42:1 ============ Gen 42:1 Now Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, and Jacob said to his sons, "Why are you staring at one another?"(nas) Gen 42:1 ἰδὼν δὲ Ιακωβ ὅτι ἔστιν πρᾶσις ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ εἶπεν τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ ἵνα τί ῥᾳθυμεῖτε (lxx) Gen 42:1 Audiens autem Jacob quod alimenta venderentur in Ægypto, dixit filiis suis: Quare negligitis?(vulgate) 1 ׃42 וַיַּ֣רְא יַעֲקֹ֔ב כִּ֥י יֶשׁ־שֶׁ֖בֶר בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יַעֲקֹב֙ לְבָנָ֔יו לָ֖מָּה תִּתְרָאֽוּ׃ Genesis Gen 42:1 Da aber Jakob sah, daß Getreide in Ägypten feil war, sprach er zu seinen Söhnen: Was sehet ihr euch lange um?(dhs) Gen 42:1 When Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, Jacob said to his sons, "Why do you look at one another?"(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:2 ============ Gen 42:2 He said, "Behold, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt; go down there and buy some for us from that place, so that we may live and not die."(nas) Gen 42:2 ἰδοὺ ἀκήκοα ὅτι ἔστιν σῖτος ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ κατάβητε ἐκεῖ καὶ πρίασθε ἡμῖν μικρὰ βρώματα ἵνα ζῶμεν καὶ μὴ ἀποθάνωμεν (lxx) Gen 42:2 audivi quod triticum venundetur in Ægypto: descendite, et emite nobis necessaria, ut possimus vivere, et non consumamur inopia.(vulgate) 2 ׃42 וַיֹּ֕אמֶר הִנֵּ֣ה שָׁמַ֔עְתִּי כִּ֥י יֶשׁ־שֶׁ֖בֶר בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם רְדוּ־שָׁ֙מָּה֙ וְשִׁבְרוּ־לָ֣נוּ מִשָּׁ֔ם וְנִחְיֶ֖ה וְלֹ֥א נָמֽוּת׃ Genesis Gen 42:2 Siehe, ich höre, es sei in Ägypten Getreide feil; zieht hinab und kauft uns Getreide, daß wir leben und nicht sterben.(dhs) Gen 42:2 And he said, "Indeed I have heard that there is grain in Egypt; go down to that place and buy for us there, that we may live and not die."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:3 ============ Gen 42:3 Then ten brothers of Joseph went down to buy grain from Egypt.(nas) Gen 42:3 κατέβησαν δὲ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ Ιωσηφ οἱ δέκα πρίασθαι σῖτον ἐξ Αἰγύπτου (lxx) Gen 42:3 Descendentes igitur fratres Joseph decem, ut emerent frumenta in Ægypto,(vulgate) 3 ׃42 וַיֵּרְד֥וּ אֲחֵֽי־יוֹסֵ֖ף עֲשָׂרָ֑ה לִשְׁבֹּ֥ר בָּ֖ר מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃ Genesis Gen 42:3 Also zogen hinab zehn Brüder Josephs, daß sie in Ägypten Getreide kauften.(dhs) Gen 42:3 So Joseph's ten brothers went down to buy grain in Egypt.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:4 ============ Gen 42:4 But Jacob did not send Joseph's brother Benjamin with his brothers, for he said, "I am afraid that harm may befall him."(nas) Gen 42:4 τὸν δὲ Βενιαμιν τὸν ἀδελφὸν Ιωσηφ οὐκ ἀπέστειλεν μετὰ τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ εἶπεν γάρ μήποτε συμβῇ αὐτῷ μαλακία (lxx) Gen 42:4 Benjamin domi retento a Jacob, qui dixerat fratribus ejus: Ne forte in itinere quidquam patiatur mali:(vulgate) 4 ׃42 וְאֶת־בִּנְיָמִין֙ אֲחִ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף לֹא־שָׁלַ֥ח יַעֲקֹ֖ב אֶת־אֶחָ֑יו כִּ֣י אָמַ֔ר פֶּן־יִקְרָאֶ֖נּוּ אָסֽוֹן׃ Genesis Gen 42:4 Aber den Benjamin, Josephs Bruder, ließ Jakob nicht mit seinen Brüdern ziehen; denn er sprach: Es möchte ihm ein Unfall begegnen.(dhs) Gen 42:4 But Jacob did not send Joseph's brother Benjamin with his brothers, for he said, "Lest some calamity befall him."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:5 ============ Gen 42:5 So the sons of Israel came to buy grain among those who were coming, for the famine was in the land of Canaan also.(nas) Gen 42:5 ἦλθον δὲ οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἀγοράζειν μετὰ τῶν ἐρχομένων ἦν γὰρ ὁ λιμὸς ἐν γῇ Χανααν (lxx) Gen 42:5 ingressi sunt terram Ægypti cum aliis qui pergebant ad emendum. Erat autem fames in terra Chanaan.(vulgate) 5 ׃42 וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לִשְׁבֹּ֖ר בְּת֣וֹךְ הַבָּאִ֑ים כִּֽי־הָיָ֥ה הָרָעָ֖ב בְּאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנָֽעַן׃ Genesis Gen 42:5 Also kamen die Kinder Israels, Getreide zu kaufen, samt anderen, die mit ihnen zogen; denn es war im Lande Kanaan auch teuer.(dhs) Gen 42:5 And the sons of Israel went to buy grain among those who journeyed, for the famine was in the land of Canaan.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:6 ============ Gen 42:6 Now Joseph was the ruler over the land; he was the one who sold to all the people of the land. And Joseph's brothers came and bowed down to him with their faces to the ground.(nas) Gen 42:6 Ιωσηφ δὲ ἦν ἄρχων τῆς γῆς οὗτος ἐπώλει παντὶ τῷ λαῷ τῆς γῆς ἐλθόντες δὲ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ Ιωσηφ προσεκύνησαν αὐτῷ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν (lxx) Gen 42:6 Et Joseph erat princeps in terra Ægypti, atque ad ejus nutum frumenta populis vendebantur. Cumque adorassent eum fratres sui,(vulgate) 6 ׃42 וְיוֹסֵ֗ף ה֚וּא הַשַּׁלִּ֣יט עַל־הָאָ֔רֶץ ה֥וּא הַמַּשְׁבִּ֖יר לְכָל־עַ֣ם הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ אֲחֵ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף וַיִּשְׁתַּֽחֲווּ־ל֥וֹ אַפַּ֖יִם אָֽרְצָה׃ Genesis Gen 42:6 Aber Joseph war der Regent im Lande und verkaufte Getreide allem Volk im Lande. Da nun seine Brüder kamen, fielen sie vor ihm nieder zur Erde auf ihr Antlitz.(dhs) Gen 42:6 Now Joseph was governor over the land; and it was he who sold to all the people of the land. And Joseph's brothers came and bowed down before him with their faces to the earth.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:7 ============ Gen 42:7 When Joseph saw his brothers he recognized them, but he disguised himself to them and spoke to them harshly. And he said to them, "Where have you come from?" And they said, "From the land of Canaan, to buy food."(nas) Gen 42:7 ἰδὼν δὲ Ιωσηφ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ ἐπέγνω καὶ ἠλλοτριοῦτο ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐλάλησεν αὐτοῖς σκληρὰ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς πόθεν ἥκατε οἱ δὲ εἶπαν ἐκ γῆς Χανααν ἀγοράσαι βρώματα (lxx) Gen 42:7 et agnovisset eos, quasi ad alienos durius loquebatur, interrogans eos: Unde venistis? Qui responderunt: De terra Chanaan, ut emamus victui necessaria.(vulgate) 7 ׃42 וַיַּ֥רְא יוֹסֵ֛ף אֶת־אֶחָ֖יו וַיַּכִּרֵ֑ם וַיִּתְנַכֵּ֨ר אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם וַיְדַבֵּ֧ר אִתָּ֣ם קָשׁ֗וֹת וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵהֶם֙ מֵאַ֣יִן בָּאתֶ֔ם וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנַ֖עַן לִשְׁבָּר־אֹֽכֶל׃ Genesis Gen 42:7 Und er sah sie an und kannte sie und stellte sich fremd gegen sie und redete hart mit ihnen und sprach zu ihnen: Woher kommt ihr? Sie sprachen: Aus dem Lande Kanaan, Speise zu kaufen.(dhs) Gen 42:7 Joseph saw his brothers and recognized them, but he acted as a stranger to them and spoke roughly to them. Then he said to them, "Where do you come from?" And they said, "From the land of Canaan to buy food."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:8 ============ Gen 42:8 But Joseph had recognized his brothers, although they did not recognize him.(nas) Gen 42:8 ἐπέγνω δὲ Ιωσηφ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ αὐτοὶ δὲ οὐκ ἐπέγνωσαν αὐτόν (lxx) Gen 42:8 Et tamen fratres ipse cognoscens, non est cognitus ab eis.(vulgate) 8 ׃42 וַיַּכֵּ֥ר יוֹסֵ֖ף אֶת־אֶחָ֑יו וְהֵ֖ם לֹ֥א הִכִּרֻֽהוּ׃ Genesis Gen 42:8 Aber wiewohl er sie kannte, kannten sie ihn doch nicht.(dhs) Gen 42:8 So Joseph recognized his brothers, but they did not recognize him.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:9 ============ Gen 42:9 Joseph remembered the dreams which he had about them, and said to them, "You are spies; you have come to look at the undefended parts of our land."(nas) Gen 42:9 καὶ ἐμνήσθη Ιωσηφ τῶν ἐνυπνίων ὧν εἶδεν αὐτός καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς κατάσκοποί ἐστε κατανοῆσαι τὰ ἴχνη τῆς χώρας ἥκατε (lxx) Gen 42:9 Recordatusque somniorum, quæ aliquando viderat, ait ad eos: Exploratores estis: ut videatis infirmiora terræ venistis.(vulgate) 9 ׃42 וַיִּזְכֹּ֣ר יוֹסֵ֔ף אֵ֚ת הַחֲלֹמ֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֥ר חָלַ֖ם לָהֶ֑ם וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵהֶם֙ מְרַגְּלִ֣ים אַתֶּ֔ם לִרְא֛וֹת אֶת־עֶרְוַ֥ת הָאָ֖רֶץ בָּאתֶֽם׃ Genesis Gen 42:9 Und Joseph gedachte an die Träume, die ihm von ihnen geträumt hatten, und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr seid Kundschafter und seid gekommen zu sehen, wo das Land offen ist.(dhs) Gen 42:9 Then Joseph remembered the dreams which he had dreamed about them, and said to them, "You are spies! You have come to see the nakedness of the land!"(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:10 ============ Gen 42:10 Then they said to him, "No, my lord, but your servants have come to buy food.(nas) Gen 42:10 οἱ δὲ εἶπαν οὐχί κύριε οἱ παῖδές σου ἤλθομεν πρίασθαι βρώματα (lxx) Gen 42:10 Qui dixerunt: Non est ita, domine, sed servi tui venerunt ut emerent cibos.(vulgate) 10 ׃42 וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ אֵלָ֖יו לֹ֣א אֲדֹנִ֑י וַעֲבָדֶ֥יךָ בָּ֖אוּ לִשְׁבָּר־אֹֽכֶל׃ Genesis Gen 42:10 Sie antworteten ihm: Nein, mein Herr; deine Knechte sind gekommen Speise zu kaufen.(dhs) Gen 42:10 And they said to him, "No, my lord, but your servants have come to buy food.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:11 ============ Gen 42:11 We are all sons of one man; we are honest men, your servants are not spies."(nas) Gen 42:11 πάντες ἐσμὲν υἱοὶ ἑνὸς ἀνθρώπου εἰρηνικοί ἐσμεν οὐκ εἰσὶν οἱ παῖδές σου κατάσκοποι (lxx) Gen 42:11 Omnes filii unius viri sumus: pacifici venimus, nec quidquam famuli tui machinantur mali.(vulgate) 11 ׃42 כֻּלָּ֕נוּ בְּנֵ֥י אִישׁ־אֶחָ֖ד נָ֑חְנוּ כֵּנִ֣ים אֲנַ֔חְנוּ לֹא־הָי֥וּ עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ מְרַגְּלִֽים׃ Genesis Gen 42:11 Wir sind alle eines Mannes Söhne; wir sind redlich, und deine Knechte sind nie Kundschafter gewesen.(dhs) Gen 42:11 We are all one man's sons; we are honest men; your servants are not spies."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:12 ============ Gen 42:12 Yet he said to them, "No, but you have come to look at the undefended parts of our land!"(nas) Gen 42:12 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς οὐχί ἀλλὰ τὰ ἴχνη τῆς γῆς ἤλθατε ἰδεῖν (lxx) Gen 42:12 Quibus ille respondit: Aliter est: immunita terræ hujus considerare venistis.(vulgate) 12 ׃42 וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֑ם לֹ֕א כִּֽי־עֶרְוַ֥ת הָאָ֖רֶץ בָּאתֶ֥ם לִרְאֽוֹת׃ Genesis Gen 42:12 Er sprach zu ihnen: Nein, sondern ihr seid gekommen, zu ersehen, wo das Land offen ist.(dhs) Gen 42:12 But he said to them, "No, but you have come to see the nakedness of the land."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:13 ============ Gen 42:13 But they said, "Your servants are twelve brothers in all, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and behold, the youngest is with our father today, and one is no longer alive."(nas) Gen 42:13 οἱ δὲ εἶπαν δώδεκά ἐσμεν οἱ παῖδές σου ἀδελφοὶ ἐν γῇ Χανααν καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ νεώτερος μετὰ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν σήμερον ὁ δὲ ἕτερος οὐχ ὑπάρχει (lxx) Gen 42:13 At illi: Duodecim, inquiunt, servi tui, fratres sumus, filii viri unius in terra Chanaan: minimus cum patre nostro est, alius non est super.(vulgate) 13 ׃42 וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ שְׁנֵ֣ים עָשָׂר֩ עֲבָדֶ֨יךָ אַחִ֧ים ׀ אֲנַ֛חְנוּ בְּנֵ֥י אִישׁ־אֶחָ֖ד בְּאֶ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן וְהִנֵּ֨ה הַקָּטֹ֤ן אֶת־אָבִ֙ינוּ֙ הַיּ֔וֹם וְהָאֶחָ֖ד אֵינֶֽנּוּ׃ Genesis Gen 42:13 Sie antworteten ihm: Wir, deine Knechte, sind zwölf Brüder, eines Mannes Söhne im Lande Kanaan, und der jüngste ist noch bei unserm Vater; aber der eine ist nicht mehr vorhanden.(dhs) Gen 42:13 And they said, "Your servants are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and in fact, the youngest is with our father today, and one is no more."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:14 ============ Gen 42:14 Joseph said to them, "It is as I said to you, you are spies;(nas) Gen 42:14 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ιωσηφ τοῦτό ἐστιν ὃ εἴρηκα ὑμῖν λέγων ὅτι κατάσκοποί ἐστε (lxx) Gen 42:14 Hoc est, ait, quod locutus sum: exploratores estis.(vulgate) 14 ׃42 וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֖ם יוֹסֵ֑ף ה֗וּא אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבַּ֧רְתִּי אֲלֵכֶ֛ם לֵאמֹ֖ר מְרַגְּלִ֥ים אַתֶּֽם׃ Genesis Gen 42:14 Joseph sprach zu ihnen: Das ist's, was ich euch gesagt habe: Kundschafter seid ihr.(dhs) Gen 42:14 But Joseph said to them, "It is as I spoke to you, saying, 'You are spies!'(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:15 ============ Gen 42:15 by this you will be tested: by the life of Pharaoh, you shall not go from this place unless your youngest brother comes here!(nas) Gen 42:15 ἐν τούτῳ φανεῖσθε νὴ τὴν ὑγίειαν Φαραω οὐ μὴ ἐξέλθητε ἐντεῦθεν ἐὰν μὴ ὁ ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν ὁ νεώτερος ἔλθῃ ὧδε (lxx) Gen 42:15 Jam nunc experimentum vestri capiam: per salutem Pharaonis non egrediemini hinc, donec veniat frater vester minimus.(vulgate) 15 ׃42 בְּזֹ֖את תִּבָּחֵ֑נוּ חֵ֤י פַרְעֹה֙ אִם־תֵּצְא֣וּ מִזֶּ֔ה כִּ֧י אִם־בְּב֛וֹא אֲחִיכֶ֥ם הַקָּטֹ֖ן הֵֽנָּה׃ Genesis Gen 42:15 Daran will ich euch prüfen; bei dem Leben Pharaos! ihr sollt nicht von dannen kommen, es komme denn her euer jüngster Bruder.(dhs) Gen 42:15 In this manner you shall be tested: By the life of Pharaoh, you shall not leave this place unless your youngest brother comes here.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:16 ============ Gen 42:16 Send one of you that he may get your brother, while you remain confined, that your words may be tested, whether there is truth in you. But if not, by the life of Pharaoh, surely you are spies."(nas) Gen 42:16 ἀποστείλατε ἐξ ὑμῶν ἕνα καὶ λάβετε τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν ὑμεῖς δὲ ἀπάχθητε ἕως τοῦ φανερὰ γενέσθαι τὰ ῥήματα ὑμῶν εἰ ἀληθεύετε ἢ οὔ εἰ δὲ μή νὴ τὴν ὑγίειαν Φαραω ἦ μὴν κατάσκοποί ἐστε (lxx) Gen 42:16 Mittite ex vobis unum, et adducat eum: vos autem eritis in vinculis, donec probentur quæ dixistis utrum vera an falsa sint: alioquin per salutem Pharaonis exploratores estis.(vulgate) 16 ׃42 שִׁלְח֨וּ מִכֶּ֣ם אֶחָד֮ וְיִקַּ֣ח אֶת־אֲחִיכֶם֒ וְאַתֶּם֙ הֵאָ֣סְר֔וּ וְיִבָּֽחֲנוּ֙ דִּבְרֵיכֶ֔ם הַֽאֱמֶ֖ת אִתְּכֶ֑ם וְאִם־לֹ֕א חֵ֣י פַרְעֹ֔ה כִּ֥י מְרַגְּלִ֖ים אַתֶּֽם׃ Genesis Gen 42:16 Sendet einen unter euch hin, der euren Bruder hole; ihr aber sollt gefangen sein. Also will ich prüfen eure Rede, ob ihr mit Wahrheit umgeht oder nicht. Denn wo nicht, so seid ihr, bei dem Leben Pharaos! Kundschafter.(dhs) Gen 42:16 Send one of you, and let him bring your brother; and you shall be kept in prison, that your words may be tested to see whether there is any truth in you; or else, by the life of Pharaoh, surely you are spies!"(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:17 ============ Gen 42:17 So he put them all together in prison for three days.(nas) Gen 42:17 καὶ ἔθετο αὐτοὺς ἐν φυλακῇ ἡμέρας τρεῖς (lxx) Gen 42:17 Tradidit ergo illos custodiæ tribus diebus.(vulgate) 17 ׃42 וַיֶּאֱסֹ֥ף אֹתָ֛ם אֶל־מִשְׁמָ֖ר שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת יָמִֽים׃ Genesis Gen 42:17 Und er ließ sie beisammen verwahren drei Tage lang.(dhs) Gen 42:17 So he put them all together in prison three days.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:18 ============ Gen 42:18 Now Joseph said to them on the third day, "Do this and live, for I fear God:(nas) Gen 42:18 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ τοῦτο ποιήσατε καὶ ζήσεσθε τὸν θεὸν γὰρ ἐγὼ φοβοῦμαι (lxx) Gen 42:18 Die autem tertio eductis de carcere, ait: Facite quæ dixi, et vivetis: Deum enim timeo.(vulgate) 18 ׃42 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֤ם יוֹסֵף֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י זֹ֥את עֲשׂ֖וּ וִֽחְי֑וּ אֶת־הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים אֲנִ֥י יָרֵֽא׃ Genesis Gen 42:18 Am dritten Tage aber sprach er zu ihnen: Wollt ihr leben, so tut also; denn ich fürchte Gott.(dhs) Gen 42:18 Then Joseph said to them the third day, "Do this and live, for I fear God:(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:19 ============ Gen 42:19 if you are honest men, let one of your brothers be confined in your prison; but as for the rest of you, go, carry grain for the famine of your households,(nas) Gen 42:19 εἰ εἰρηνικοί ἐστε ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν εἷς κατασχεθήτω ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ αὐτοὶ δὲ βαδίσατε καὶ ἀπαγάγετε τὸν ἀγορασμὸν τῆς σιτοδοσίας ὑμῶν (lxx) Gen 42:19 Si pacifici estis, frater vester unus ligetur in carcere: vos autem abite, et ferte frumenta quæ emistis, in domos vestras,(vulgate) 19 ׃42 אִם־כֵּנִ֣ים אַתֶּ֔ם אֲחִיכֶ֣ם אֶחָ֔ד יֵאָסֵ֖ר בְּבֵ֣ית מִשְׁמַרְכֶ֑ם וְאַתֶּם֙ לְכ֣וּ הָבִ֔יאוּ שֶׁ֖בֶר רַעֲב֥וֹן בָּתֵּיכֶֽם׃ Genesis Gen 42:19 Seid ihr redlich, so laßt eurer Brüder einen gebunden liegen in eurem Gefängnis; ihr aber zieht hin und bringet heim, was ihr gekauft habt für den Hunger.(dhs) Gen 42:19 If you are honest men, let one of your brothers be confined to your prison house; but you, go and carry grain for the famine of your houses.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:20 ============ Gen 42:20 and bring your youngest brother to me, so your words may be verified, and you will not die." And they did so.(nas) Gen 42:20 καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν τὸν νεώτερον ἀγάγετε πρός με καὶ πιστευθήσονται τὰ ῥήματα ὑμῶν εἰ δὲ μή ἀποθανεῖσθε ἐποίησαν δὲ οὕτως (lxx) Gen 42:20 et fratrem vestrum minimum ad me adducite, ut possim vestros probare sermones, et non moriamini. Fecerunt ut dixerat,(vulgate) 20 ׃42 וְאֶת־אֲחִיכֶ֤ם הַקָּטֹן֙ תָּבִ֣יאוּ אֵלַ֔י וְיֵאָמְנ֥וּ דִבְרֵיכֶ֖ם וְלֹ֣א תָמ֑וּתוּ וַיַּעֲשׂוּ־כֵֽן׃ Genesis Gen 42:20 Und bringt euren jüngsten Bruder zu mir, so will ich euren Worten glauben, daß ihr nicht sterben müßt. Und sie taten also.(dhs) Gen 42:20 And bring your youngest brother to me; so your words will be verified, and you shall not die." And they did so.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:21 ============ Gen 42:21 Then they said to one another, "Truly we are guilty concerning our brother, because we saw the distress of his soul when he pleaded with us, yet we would not listen; therefore this distress has come upon us."(nas) Gen 42:21 καὶ εἶπεν ἕκαστος πρὸς τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ναί ἐν ἁμαρτίᾳ γάρ ἐσμεν περὶ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ ἡμῶν ὅτι ὑπερείδομεν τὴν θλῖψιν τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ ὅτε κατεδέετο ἡμῶν καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσαμεν αὐτοῦ ἕνεκεν τούτου ἐπῆλθεν ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς ἡ θλῖψις αὕτη (lxx) Gen 42:21 et locuti sunt ad invicem: Merito hæc patimur, quia peccavimus in fratrem nostrum, videntes angustiam animæ illius, dum deprecaretur nos, et non audivimus: idcirco venit super nos ista tribulatio.(vulgate) 21 ׃42 וַיֹּאמְר֞וּ אִ֣ישׁ אֶל־אָחִ֗יו אֲבָל֮ אֲשֵׁמִ֣ים ׀ אֲנַחְנוּ֮ עַל־אָחִינוּ֒ אֲשֶׁ֨ר רָאִ֜ינוּ צָרַ֥ת נַפְשׁ֛וֹ בְּהִתְחַֽנְנ֥וֹ אֵלֵ֖ינוּ וְלֹ֣א שָׁמָ֑עְנוּ עַל־כֵּן֙ בָּ֣אָה אֵלֵ֔ינוּ הַצָּרָ֖ה הַזֹּֽאת׃ Genesis Gen 42:21 Sie aber sprachen untereinander: Das haben wir uns an unserm Bruder verschuldet, daß wir sahen die Angst seiner Seele, da er uns anflehte, und wir wollten ihn nicht erhören; darum kommt nun diese Trübsal über uns.(dhs) Gen 42:21 Then they said to one another, "We are truly guilty concerning our brother, for we saw the anguish of his soul when he pleaded with us, and we would not hear; therefore this distress has come upon us."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:22 ============ Gen 42:22 Reuben answered them, saying, "Did I not tell you, 'Do not sin against the boy'; and you would not listen? Now comes the reckoning for his blood."(nas) Gen 42:22 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Ρουβην εἶπεν αὐτοῖς οὐκ ἐλάλησα ὑμῖν λέγων μὴ ἀδικήσητε τὸ παιδάριον καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσατέ μου καὶ ἰδοὺ τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐκζητεῖται (lxx) Gen 42:22 E quibus unus Ruben, ait: Numquid non dixi vobis: Nolite peccare in puerum: et non audistis me? en sanguis ejus exquiritur.(vulgate) 22 ׃42 וַיַּעַן֩ רְאוּבֵ֨ן אֹתָ֜ם לֵאמֹ֗ר הֲלוֹא֩ אָמַ֨רְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶ֧ם ׀ לֵאמֹ֛ר אַל־תֶּחֶטְא֥וּ בַיֶּ֖לֶד וְלֹ֣א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֑ם וְגַם־דָּמ֖וֹ הִנֵּ֥ה נִדְרָֽשׁ׃ Genesis Gen 42:22 Ruben antwortete ihnen und sprach: Sagte ich's euch nicht, da ich sprach: Versündigt euch nicht an dem Knaben, und ihr wolltet nicht hören? Nun wird sein Blut gefordert.(dhs) Gen 42:22 And Reuben answered them, saying, "Did I not speak to you, saying, 'Do not sin against the boy'; and you would not listen? Therefore behold, his blood is now required of us."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:23 ============ Gen 42:23 They did not know, however, that Joseph understood, for there was an interpreter between them.(nas) Gen 42:23 αὐτοὶ δὲ οὐκ ᾔδεισαν ὅτι ἀκούει Ιωσηφ ὁ γὰρ ἑρμηνευτὴς ἀνὰ μέσον αὐτῶν ἦν (lxx) Gen 42:23 Nesciebant autem quod intelligeret Joseph, eo quod per interpretem loqueretur ad eos.(vulgate) 23 ׃42 וְהֵם֙ לֹ֣א יֽ͏ָדְע֔וּ כִּ֥י שֹׁמֵ֖עַ יוֹסֵ֑ף כִּ֥י הַמֵּלִ֖יץ בֵּינֹתָֽם׃ Genesis Gen 42:23 Sie wußten aber nicht, daß es Joseph verstand; denn er redete mit ihnen durch einen Dolmetscher.(dhs) Gen 42:23 But they did not know that Joseph understood them, for he spoke to them through an interpreter.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:24 ============ Gen 42:24 He turned away from them and wept. But when he returned to them and spoke to them, he took Simeon from them and bound him before their eyes.(nas) Gen 42:24 ἀποστραφεὶς δὲ ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν ἔκλαυσεν Ιωσηφ καὶ πάλιν προσῆλθεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς καὶ ἔλαβεν τὸν Συμεων ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν καὶ ἔδησεν αὐτὸν ἐναντίον αὐτῶν (lxx) Gen 42:24 Avertitque se parumper, et flevit: et reversus locutus est ad eos.~(vulgate) 24 ׃42 וַיִּסֹּ֥ב מֵֽעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם וַיֵּ֑בְךְּ וַיָּ֤שָׁב אֲלֵהֶם֙ וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֲלֵהֶ֔ם וַיִּקַּ֤ח מֵֽאִתָּם֙ אֶת־שִׁמְע֔וֹן וַיֶּאֱסֹ֥ר אֹת֖וֹ לְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃ Genesis Gen 42:24 Und er wandte sich von ihnen und weinte. Da er nun sich wieder zu ihnen wandte und mit ihnen redete, nahm er aus ihnen Simeon und band ihn vor ihren Augen.(dhs) Gen 42:24 And he turned himself away from them and wept. Then he returned to them again, and talked with them. And he took Simeon from them and bound him before their eyes.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:25 ============ Gen 42:25 Then Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain and to restore every man's money in his sack, and to give them provisions for the journey. And thus it was done for them.(nas) Gen 42:25 ἐνετείλατο δὲ Ιωσηφ ἐμπλῆσαι τὰ ἀγγεῖα αὐτῶν σίτου καὶ ἀποδοῦναι τὸ ἀργύριον ἑκάστου εἰς τὸν σάκκον αὐτοῦ καὶ δοῦναι αὐτοῖς ἐπισιτισμὸν εἰς τὴν ὁδόν καὶ ἐγενήθη αὐτοῖς οὕτως (lxx) Gen 42:25 Tollensque Simeon, et ligans illis præsentibus, jussit ministris ut implerent eorum saccos tritico, et reponerent pecunias singulorum in sacculis suis, datis supra cibariis in viam: qui fecerunt ita.(vulgate) 25 ׃42 וַיְצַ֣ו יוֹסֵ֗ף וַיְמַלְא֣וּ אֶת־כְּלֵיהֶם֮ בָּר֒ וּלְהָשִׁ֤יב כַּסְפֵּיהֶם֙ אִ֣ישׁ אֶל־שַׂקּ֔וֹ וְלָתֵ֥ת לָהֶ֛ם צֵדָ֖ה לַדָּ֑רֶךְ וַיַּ֥עַשׂ לָהֶ֖ם כֵּֽן׃ Genesis Gen 42:25 Und Joseph tat Befehl, daß man ihre Säcke mit Getreide füllte und ihr Geld wiedergäbe, einem jeglichen in seinen Sack, dazu auch Zehrung auf den Weg; und man tat ihnen also.(dhs) Gen 42:25 Then Joseph gave a command to fill their sacks with grain, to restore every man's money to his sack, and to give them provisions for the journey. Thus he did for them.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:26 ============ Gen 42:26 So they loaded their donkeys with their grain and departed from there.(nas) Gen 42:26 καὶ ἐπιθέντες τὸν σῖτον ἐπὶ τοὺς ὄνους αὐτῶν ἀπῆλθον ἐκεῖθεν (lxx) Gen 42:26 At illi portantes frumenta in asinis suis, profecti sunt.(vulgate) 26 ׃42 וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ אֶת־שִׁבְרָ֖ם עַל־חֲמֹרֵיהֶ֑ם וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ מִשָּֽׁם׃ Genesis Gen 42:26 Und sie luden ihre Ware auf ihre Esel und zogen von dannen.(dhs) Gen 42:26 So they loaded their donkeys with the grain and departed from there.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:27 ============ Gen 42:27 As one of them opened his sack to give his donkey fodder at the lodging place, he saw his money; and behold, it was in the mouth of his sack.(nas) Gen 42:27 λύσας δὲ εἷς τὸν μάρσιππον αὐτοῦ δοῦναι χορτάσματα τοῖς ὄνοις αὐτοῦ οὗ κατέλυσαν εἶδεν τὸν δεσμὸν τοῦ ἀργυρίου αὐτοῦ καὶ ἦν ἐπάνω τοῦ στόματος τοῦ μαρσίππου (lxx) Gen 42:27 Apertoque unus sacco, ut daret jumento pabulum in diversorio, contemplatus pecuniam in ore sacculi,(vulgate) 27 ׃42 וַיִּפְתַּ֨ח הָאֶחָ֜ד אֶת־שַׂקּ֗וֹ לָתֵ֥ת מִסְפּ֛וֹא לַחֲמֹר֖וֹ בַּמָּל֑וֹן וַיַּרְא֙ אֶת־כַּסְפּ֔וֹ וְהִנֵּה־ה֖וּא בְּפִ֥י אַמְתַּחְתּֽוֹ׃ Genesis Gen 42:27 Da aber einer seinen Sack auftat, daß er seinem Esel Futter gäbe in der Herberge, ward er gewahr seines Geldes, das oben im Sack lag,(dhs) Gen 42:27 But as one of them opened his sack to give his donkey feed at the encampment, he saw his money; and there it was, in the mouth of his sack.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:28 ============ Gen 42:28 Then he said to his brothers, "My money has been returned, and behold, it is even in my sack." And their hearts sank, and they turned trembling to one another, saying, "What is this that God has done to us?"(nas) Gen 42:28 καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτοῦ ἀπεδόθη μοι τὸ ἀργύριον καὶ ἰδοὺ τοῦτο ἐν τῷ μαρσίππῳ μου καὶ ἐξέστη ἡ καρδία αὐτῶν καὶ ἐταράχθησαν πρὸς ἀλλήλους λέγοντες τί τοῦτο ἐποίησεν ὁ θεὸς ἡμῖν (lxx) Gen 42:28 dixit fratribus suis: Reddita est mihi pecunia, en habetur in sacco. Et obstupefacti, turbatique, mutuo dixerunt: Quidnam est hoc quod fecit nobis Deus?(vulgate) 28 ׃42 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֶל־אֶחָיו֙ הוּשַׁ֣ב כַּסְפִּ֔י וְגַ֖ם הִנֵּ֣ה בְאַמְתַּחְתִּ֑י וַיֵּצֵ֣א לִבָּ֗ם וַיֶּֽחֶרְד֞וּ אִ֤ישׁ אֶל־אָחִיו֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר מַה־זֹּ֛את עָשָׂ֥ה אֱלֹהִ֖ים לָֽנוּ׃ Genesis Gen 42:28 und sprach zu seinen Brüdern: Mein Geld ist mir wieder geworden; siehe, in meinem Sack ist es. Da entfiel ihnen ihr Herz, und sie erschraken untereinander und sprachen: Warum hat uns Gott das getan?(dhs) Gen 42:28 So he said to his brothers, "My money has been restored, and there it is, in my sack!" Then their hearts failed them and they were afraid, saying to one another, "What is this that God has done to us?"(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:29 ============ Gen 42:29 When they came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan, they told him all that had happened to them, saying,(nas) Gen 42:29 ἦλθον δὲ πρὸς Ιακωβ τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν εἰς γῆν Χανααν καὶ ἀπήγγειλαν αὐτῷ πάντα τὰ συμβάντα αὐτοῖς λέγοντες (lxx) Gen 42:29 Veneruntque ad Jacob patrem suum in terram Chanaan, et narraverunt ei omnia quæ accidissent sibi, dicentes:(vulgate) 29 ׃42 וַיָּבֹ֛אוּ אֶל־יַעֲקֹ֥ב אֲבִיהֶ֖ם אַ֣רְצָה כְּנָ֑עַן וַיַּגִּ֣ידוּ ל֔וֹ אֵ֛ת כָּל־הַקֹּרֹ֥ת אֹתָ֖ם לֵאמֹֽר׃ Genesis Gen 42:29 Da sie nun heimkamen zu ihrem Vater Jakob ins Land Kanaan, sagten sie ihm alles, was ihnen begegnet war, und sprachen:(dhs) Gen 42:29 Then they went to Jacob their father in the land of Canaan and told him all that had happened to them, saying:(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:30 ============ Gen 42:30 "The man, the lord of the land, spoke harshly with us, and took us for spies of the country.(nas) Gen 42:30 λελάληκεν ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὁ κύριος τῆς γῆς πρὸς ἡμᾶς σκληρὰ καὶ ἔθετο ἡμᾶς ἐν φυλακῇ ὡς κατασκοπεύοντας τὴν γῆν (lxx) Gen 42:30 Locutus est nobis dominus terræ dure, et putavit nos exploratores esse provinciæ.(vulgate) 30 ׃42 דִּ֠בֶּר הָאִ֨ישׁ אֲדֹנֵ֥י הָאָ֛רֶץ אִתָּ֖נוּ קָשׁ֑וֹת וַיִּתֵּ֣ן אֹתָ֔נוּ כִּֽמְרַגְּלִ֖ים אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ Genesis Gen 42:30 Der Mann, der im Lande Herr ist, redete hart mit uns und hielt uns für Kundschafter des Landes.(dhs) Gen 42:30 "The man who is lord of the land spoke roughly to us, and took us for spies of the country.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:31 ============ Gen 42:31 But we said to him, 'We are honest men; we are not spies.(nas) Gen 42:31 εἴπαμεν δὲ αὐτῷ εἰρηνικοί ἐσμεν οὔκ ἐσμεν κατάσκοποι (lxx) Gen 42:31 Cui respondimus: Pacifici sumus, nec ullas molimur insidias.(vulgate) 31 ׃42 וַנֹּ֥אמֶר אֵלָ֖יו כֵּנִ֣ים אֲנָ֑חְנוּ לֹ֥א הָיִ֖ינוּ מְרַגְּלִֽים׃ Genesis Gen 42:31 Und da wir ihm antworteten: Wir sind redlich und nie Kundschafter gewesen,(dhs) Gen 42:31 But we said to him, 'We are honest men; we are not spies.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:32 ============ Gen 42:32 We are twelve brothers, sons of our father; one is no longer alive, and the youngest is with our father today in the land of Canaan.'(nas) Gen 42:32 δώδεκα ἀδελφοί ἐσμεν υἱοὶ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν ὁ εἷς οὐχ ὑπάρχει ὁ δὲ μικρότερος μετὰ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν σήμερον ἐν γῇ Χανααν (lxx) Gen 42:32 Duodecim fratres uno patre geniti sumus: unus non est super, minimus cum patre nostro est in terra Chanaan.(vulgate) 32 ׃42 שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂ֥ר אֲנַ֛חְנוּ אַחִ֖ים בְּנֵ֣י אָבִ֑ינוּ הָאֶחָ֣ד אֵינֶ֔נּוּ וְהַקָּטֹ֥ן הַיּ֛וֹם אֶת־אָבִ֖ינוּ בְּאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנָֽעַן׃ Genesis Gen 42:32 sondern zwölf Brüder, unsers Vaters Söhne, einer ist nicht mehr vorhanden, und der jüngste ist noch bei unserm Vater im Lande Kanaan,(dhs) Gen 42:32 We are twelve brothers, sons of our father; one is no more, and the youngest is with our father this day in the land of Canaan.'(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:33 ============ Gen 42:33 The man, the lord of the land, said to us, 'By this I will know that you are honest men: leave one of your brothers with me and take grain for the famine of your households, and go.(nas) Gen 42:33 εἶπεν δὲ ἡμῖν ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὁ κύριος τῆς γῆς ἐν τούτῳ γνώσομαι ὅτι εἰρηνικοί ἐστε ἀδελφὸν ἕνα ἄφετε ὧδε μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ τὸν δὲ ἀγορασμὸν τῆς σιτοδοσίας τοῦ οἴκου ὑμῶν λαβόντες ἀπέλθατε (lxx) Gen 42:33 Qui ait nobis: Sic probabo quod pacifici sitis: fratrem vestrum unum dimittite apud me, et cibaria domibus vestris necessaria sumite, et abite,(vulgate) 33 ׃42 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלֵ֗ינוּ הָאִישׁ֙ אֲדֹנֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ בְּזֹ֣את אֵדַ֔ע כִּ֥י כֵנִ֖ים אַתֶּ֑ם אֲחִיכֶ֤ם הָֽאֶחָד֙ הַנִּ֣יחוּ אִתִּ֔י וְאֶת־רַעֲב֥וֹן בָּתֵּיכֶ֖ם קְח֥וּ וָלֵֽכוּ׃ Genesis Gen 42:33 sprach der Herr des Landes zu uns: Daran will ich merken, ob ihr redlich seid: Einen eurer Brüder laßt bei mir, und nehmt die Notdurft für euer Haus und zieht hin,(dhs) Gen 42:33 Then the man, the lord of the country, said to us, 'By this I will know that you are honest men: Leave one of your brothers here with me, take food for the famine of your households, and be gone.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:34 ============ Gen 42:34 But bring your youngest brother to me that I may know that you are not spies, but honest men. I will give your brother to you, and you may trade in the land.'"(nas) Gen 42:34 καὶ ἀγάγετε πρός με τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν τὸν νεώτερον καὶ γνώσομαι ὅτι οὐ κατάσκοποί ἐστε ἀλλ᾽ ὅτι εἰρηνικοί ἐστε καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν ἀποδώσω ὑμῖν καὶ τῇ γῇ ἐμπορεύεσθε (lxx) Gen 42:34 fratremque vestrum minimum adducite ad me, ut sciam quod non sitis exploratores: et istum, qui tenetur in vinculis, recipere possitis: ac deinceps quæ vultis, emendi habeatis licentiam.(vulgate) 34 ׃42 וְ֠הָבִיאוּ אֶת־אֲחִיכֶ֣ם הַקָּטֹן֮ אֵלַי֒ וְאֵֽדְעָ֗ה כִּ֣י לֹ֤א מְרַגְּלִים֙ אַתֶּ֔ם כִּ֥י כֵנִ֖ים אַתֶּ֑ם אֶת־אֲחִיכֶם֙ אֶתֵּ֣ן לָכֶ֔ם וְאֶת־הָאָ֖רֶץ תִּסְחָֽרוּ׃ Genesis Gen 42:34 und bringt euren jüngsten Bruder zu mir, so merke ich, daß ihr nicht Kundschafter, sondern redlich seid; so will ich euch euren Bruder geben, und ihr mögt im Lande werben.(dhs) Gen 42:34 And bring your youngest brother to me; so I shall know that you are not spies, but that you are honest men. I will grant your brother to you, and you may trade in the land.' "(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:35 ============ Gen 42:35 Now it came about as they were emptying their sacks, that behold, every man's bundle of money was in his sack; and when they and their father saw their bundles of money, they were dismayed.(nas) Gen 42:35 ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ κατακενοῦν αὐτοὺς τοὺς σάκκους αὐτῶν καὶ ἦν ἑκάστου ὁ δεσμὸς τοῦ ἀργυρίου ἐν τῷ σάκκῳ αὐτῶν καὶ εἶδον τοὺς δεσμοὺς τοῦ ἀργυρίου αὐτῶν αὐτοὶ καὶ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν (lxx) Gen 42:35 His dictis, cum frumenta effunderent, singuli repererunt in ore saccorum ligatas pecunias, exterritisque simul omnibus,(vulgate) 35 ׃42 וַיְהִ֗י הֵ֚ם מְרִיקִ֣ים שַׂקֵּיהֶ֔ם וְהִנֵּה־אִ֥ישׁ צְרוֹר־כַּסְפּ֖וֹ בְּשַׂקּ֑וֹ וַיִּרְא֞וּ אֶת־צְרֹר֧וֹת כַּסְפֵּיהֶ֛ם הֵ֥מָּה וַאֲבִיהֶ֖ם וַיִּירָֽאוּ׃ Genesis Gen 42:35 Und da sie die Säcke ausschütteten, fand ein jeglicher sein Bündlein Geld in seinem Sack. All these things are against me."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:37 ============ Gen 42:37 Then Reuben spoke to his father, saying, "You may put my two sons to death if I do not bring him back to you; put him in my care, and I will return him to you."(nas) Gen 42:37 εἶπεν δὲ Ρουβην τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ λέγων τοὺς δύο υἱούς μου ἀπόκτεινον ἐὰν μὴ ἀγάγω αὐτὸν πρὸς σέ δὸς αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν χεῖρά μου κἀγὼ ἀνάξω αὐτὸν πρὸς σέ (lxx) Gen 42:37 Cui respondit Ruben: Duos filios meos interfice, si non reduxero illum tibi: trade illum in manu mea, et ego eum tibi restituam.(vulgate) 37 ׃42 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר רְאוּבֵן֙ אֶל־אָבִ֣יו לֵאמֹ֔ר אֶת־שְׁנֵ֤י בָנַי֙ תָּמִ֔ית אִם־לֹ֥א אֲבִיאֶ֖נּוּ אֵלֶ֑יךָ תְּנָ֤ה אֹתוֹ֙ עַל־יָדִ֔י וַאֲנִ֖י אֲשִׁיבֶ֥נּוּ אֵלֶֽיךָ׃ Genesis Gen 42:37 Ruben antwortete seinem Vater und sprach: Wenn ich dir ihn nicht wiederbringe, so erwürge meine zwei Söhne; gib ihn nur in meine Hand, ich will ihn dir wiederbringen.(dhs) Gen 42:37 Then Reuben spoke to his father, saying, "Kill my two sons if I do not bring him back to you; put him in my hands, and I will bring him back to you."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 42:38 ============ Gen 42:38 But Jacob said, "My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he alone is left. If harm should befall him on the journey you are taking, then you will bring my gray hair down to Sheol in sorrow."(nas) Gen 42:38 ὁ δὲ εἶπεν οὐ καταβήσεται ὁ υἱός μου μεθ᾽ ὑμῶν ὅτι ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ ἀπέθανεν καὶ αὐτὸς μόνος καταλέλειπται καὶ συμβήσεται αὐτὸν μαλακισθῆναι ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ᾗ ἂν πορεύησθε καὶ κατάξετέ μου τὸ γῆρας μετὰ λύπης εἰς ᾅδου (lxx) Gen 42:38 At ille: Non descendet, inquit, filius meus vobiscum: frater ejus mortuus est, et ipse solus remansit: si quid ei adversi acciderit in terra ad quam pergitis, deducetis canos meos cum dolore ad inferos.(vulgate) 38 ׃42 וַיֹּ֕אמֶר לֹֽא־יֵרֵ֥ד בְּנִ֖י עִמָּכֶ֑ם כִּֽי־אָחִ֨יו מֵ֜ת וְה֧וּא לְבַדּ֣וֹ נִשְׁאָ֗ר וּקְרָאָ֤הוּ אָסוֹן֙ בַּדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תֵּֽלְכוּ־בָ֔הּ וְהוֹרַדְתֶּ֧ם אֶת־שֵׂיבָתִ֛י בְּיָג֖וֹן שְׁאֽוֹלָה׃ Genesis Gen 42:38 Er sprach: Mein Sohn soll nicht mit euch hinabziehen, denn sein Bruder ist tot, und er ist allein übriggeblieben; wenn ihm ein Unfall auf dem Wege begegnete, den ihr reiset, würdet ihr meine grauen Haare mit Herzeleid in die Grube bringen.(dhs) Gen 42:38 But he said, "My son shall not go down with you, for his brother is dead, and he is left alone.
