A man's wisdom illumines him and causes his stern face to beam. (nasb) Ecc 8:1 Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.(kjv) Ecl 8:1 Who is like a wise man? A man's wisdom makes his face shine, And the sternness of his face is changed.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:2 ============ Ecl 8:2 I say, "Keep the command of the king because of the oath before God. (nasb) Ecc 8:2 I counsel thee to keep the king's commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.(kjv) Ecl 8:2 I say, "Keep the king's commandment for the sake of your oath to God.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:3 ============ Ecl 8:3 Do not be in a hurry to leave him. Do not join in an evil matter, for he will do whatever he pleases."(nasb) Ecc 8:3 Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.(kjv) Ecl 8:3 Do not be hasty to go from his presence. Do not take your stand for an evil thing, for he does whatever pleases him."(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:4 ============ Ecl 8:4 Since the word of the king is authoritative, who will say to him, "What are you doing?"(nasb) Ecc 8:4 Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?(kjv) Ecl 8:4 Where the word of a king is, there is power; And who may say to him, "What are you doing?"(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:5 ============ Ecl 8:5 He who keeps a royal command experiences no trouble, for a wise heart knows the proper time and procedure. (nasb) Ecc 8:5 Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment.(kjv) Ecl 8:5 He who keeps his command will experience nothing harmful; And a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment,(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:6 ============ Ecl 8:6 For there is a proper time and procedure for every delight, though a man's trouble is heavy upon him. (nasb) Ecc 8:6 Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him.(kjv) Ecl 8:6 Because for every matter there is a time and judgment, Though the misery of man increases greatly.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:7 ============ Ecl 8:7 If no one knows what will happen, who can tell him when it will happen? (nasb) Ecc 8:7 For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?(kjv) Ecl 8:7 For he does not know what will happen; So who can tell him when it will occur?(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:8 ============ Ecl 8:8 No man has authority to restrain the wind with the wind, or authority over the day of death; and there is no discharge in the time of war, and evil will not deliver those who practice it. (nasb) Ecc 8:8 There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.(kjv) Ecl 8:8 No one has power over the spirit to retain the spirit, And no one has power in the day of death. There is no release from that war, And wickedness will not deliver those who are given to it.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:9 ============ Ecl 8:9 All this I have seen and applied my mind to every deed that has been done under the sun wherein a man has exercised authority over another man to his hurt. This too is futility. This also is vanity.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:11 ============ Ecl 8:11 Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of the sons of men among them are given fully to do evil. (nasb) Ecc 8:12 Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:(kjv) Ecl 8:12 Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, yet I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:13 ============ Ecl 8:13 But it will not be well for the evil man and he will not lengthen his days like a shadow, because he does not fear God. (nasb) Ecc 8:13 But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.(kjv) Ecl 8:13 But it will not be well with the wicked; nor will he prolong his days, which are as a shadow, because he does not fear before God.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:14 ============ Ecl 8:14 There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked. On the other hand, there are evil men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility. (nasb) Ecc 8:14 There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.(kjv) Ecl 8:14 There is a vanity which occurs on earth, that there are just men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:15 ============ Ecl 8:15 So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for a man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his toils throughout the days of his life which God has given him under the sun. (nasb) Ecc 8:15 Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.(kjv) Ecl 8:15 So I commended enjoyment, because a man has nothing better under the sun than to eat, drink, and be merry; for this will remain with him in his labor all the days of his life which God gives him under the sun.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:16 ============ Ecl 8:16 When I gave my heart to know wisdom and to see the task which has been done on the earth (even though one should never sleep day or night), (nasb) Ecc 8:16 When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:)(kjv) Ecl 8:16 When I applied my heart to know wisdom and to see the business that is done on earth, even though one sees no sleep day or night,(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:17 ============ Ecl 8:17 and I saw every work of God, I concluded that man cannot discover the work which has been done under the sun. Even though man should seek laboriously, he will not discover; and though the wise man should say, "I know," he cannot discover. (nasb) Ecc 8:17 Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea farther; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.(kjv) Ecl 8:17 then I saw all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun. For though a man labors to discover it, yet he will not find it; moreover, though a wise man attempts to know it, he will not be able to find it.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:1 ============ Ecl 9:1 For I have taken all this to my heart and explain it that righteous men, wise men, and their deeds are in the hand of God. Man does not know whether it will be love or hatred; anything awaits him. (nasb) Ecc 9:1 For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.(kjv) Ecl 9:1 For I considered all this in my heart, so that I could declare it all: that the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God. People know neither love nor hatred by anything they see before them.(nkjv) |
