But after they had waited a long time and had seen nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and began to say that he was a god.(nasb) Act 28:6 οἱ δὲ προσεδόκων αὐτὸν μέλλειν πίμπρασθαι ἢ καταπίπτειν ἄφνω νεκρόν. ἐπὶ πολὺ δὲ αὐτῶν προσδοκώντων καὶ θεωρούντων μηδὲν ἄτοπον εἰς αὐτὸν γινόμενον, μεταβαλόμενοι ἔλεγον αὐτὸν εἶναι θεόν.(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:6 At illi existimabant eum in tumorem convertendum, et subito casurum et mori. Diu autem illis exspectantibus, et videntibus nihil mali in eo fieri, convertentes se, dicebant eum esse deum.(vulgate) Act 28:6 Sie aber warteten, wenn er schwellen würde oder tot niederfallen. Da sie aber lange warteten und sahen, daß ihm nichts Ungeheures widerfuhr, wurden sie anderes Sinnes und sprachen, er wäre ein Gott.(dhs) Act 28:6 However, they were expecting that he would swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had looked for a long time and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds and said that he was a god.(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:7 ============ Act 28:7 Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the leading man of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and entertained us courteously three days.(nasb) Act 28:7 ἐν δὲ τοῖς περὶ τὸν τόπον ἐκεῖνον ὑπῆρχεν χωρία τῶ πρώτῳ τῆς νήσου ὀνόματι ποπλίῳ, ὃς ἀναδεξάμενος ἡμᾶς τρεῖς ἡμέρας φιλοφρόνως ἐξένισεν.(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:7 In locis autem illis erant prædia principis insulæ, nomine Publii, qui nos suscipiens, triduo benigne exhibuit.(vulgate) Act 28:7 An diesen Örtern aber hatte der Oberste der Insel, mit Namen Publius, ein Vorwerk; der nahm uns auf und herbergte uns drei Tage freundlich.(dhs) Act 28:7 In that region there was an estate of the leading citizen of the island, whose name was Publius, who received us and entertained us courteously for three days.(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:8 ============ Act 28:8 And it happened that the father of Publius was lying in bed afflicted with recurrent fever and dysentery; and Paul went in to see him and after he had prayed, he laid his hands on him and healed him.(nasb) Act 28:8 ἐγένετο δὲ τὸν πατέρα τοῦ ποπλίου πυρετοῖς καὶ δυσεντερίῳ συνεχόμενον κατακεῖσθαι, πρὸς ὃν ὁ παῦλος εἰσελθὼν καὶ προσευξάμενος ἐπιθεὶς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶ ἰάσατο αὐτόν.(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:8 Contigit autem patrem Publii febribus et dysenteria vexatum jacere. Ad quem Paulus intravit: et cum orasset, et imposuisset ei manus, salvavit eum.(vulgate) Act 28:8 Es geschah aber, daß der Vater des Publius am Fieber und an der Ruhr lag. Zu dem ging Paulus hinein und betete und legte die Hand auf ihn und machte ihn gesund.(dhs) Act 28:8 And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him.(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:9 ============ Act 28:9 After this had happened, the rest of the people on the island who had diseases were coming to him and getting cured.(nasb) Act 28:9 τούτου δὲ γενομένου καὶ οἱ λοιποὶ οἱ ἐν τῇ νήσῳ ἔχοντες ἀσθενείας προσήρχοντο καὶ ἐθεραπεύοντο,(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:9 Quo facto, omnes qui in insula habebant infirmitates, accedebant, et curabantur:(vulgate) Act 28:9 Da das geschah, kamen auch die andern auf der Insel herzu, die Krankheiten hatten, und ließen sich gesund machen.(dhs) Act 28:9 So when this was done, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed.(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:10 ============ Act 28:10 They also honored us with many marks of respect; and when we were setting sail, they supplied us with all we needed.(nasb) Act 28:10 οἳ καὶ πολλαῖς τιμαῖς ἐτίμησαν ἡμᾶς καὶ ἀναγομένοις ἐπέθεντο τὰ πρὸς τὰς χρείας.(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:10 qui etiam multis honoribus nos honoraverunt, et navigantibus imposuerunt quæ necessaria erant.~(vulgate) Act 28:10 Und sie taten uns große Ehre; und da wir auszogen, luden sie auf, was uns not war.(dhs) Act 28:10 They also honored us in many ways; and when we departed, they provided such things as were necessary.(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:11 ============ Act 28:11 At the end of three months we set sail on an Alexandrian ship which had wintered at the island, and which had the Twin Brothers for its figurehead.(nasb) Act 28:11 μετὰ δὲ τρεῖς μῆνας ἀνήχθημεν ἐν πλοίῳ παρακεχειμακότι ἐν τῇ νήσῳ ἀλεξανδρίνῳ, παρασήμῳ διοσκούροις.(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:11 Post menses autem tres navigavimus in navi Alexandrina, quæ in insula hiemaverat, cui erat insigne Castorum.(vulgate) Act 28:11 Nach drei Monaten aber fuhren wir aus in einem Schiffe von Alexandrien, welches bei der Insel überwintert hatte und hatte ein Panier der Zwillinge.(dhs) Act 28:11 After three months we sailed in an Alexandrian ship whose figurehead was the Twin Brothers, which had wintered at the island.(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:12 ============ Act 28:12 After we put in at Syracuse, we stayed there for three days.(nasb) Act 28:12 καὶ καταχθέντες εἰς συρακούσας ἐπεμείναμεν ἡμέρας τρεῖς,(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:12 Et cum venissemus Syracusam, mansimus ibi triduo.(vulgate) Act 28:12 Und da wir gen Syrakus kamen, blieben wir drei Tage da.(dhs) Act 28:12 And landing at Syracuse, we stayed three days.(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:13 ============ Act 28:13 From there we sailed around and arrived at Rhegium, and a day later a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli.(nasb) Act 28:13 ὅθεν περιελόντες κατηντήσαμεν εἰς ῥήγιον. καὶ μετὰ μίαν ἡμέραν ἐπιγενομένου νότου δευτεραῖοι ἤλθομεν εἰς ποτιόλους,(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:13 Inde circumlegentes devenimus Rhegium: et post unum diem, flante austro, secunda die venimus Puteolos:(vulgate) Act 28:13 Und da wir umschifften, kamen wir gen Rhegion; und nach einem Tage, da der Südwind sich erhob, kamen wir des andern Tages gen Puteoli.(dhs) Act 28:13 From there we circled round and reached Rhegium. And after one day the south wind blew; and the next day we came to Puteoli,(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:14 ============ Act 28:14 There we found some brethren, and were invited to stay with them for seven days; and thus we came to Rome.(nasb) Act 28:14 οὖ εὑρόντες ἀδελφοὺς παρεκλήθημεν παρ᾽ αὐτοῖς ἐπιμεῖναι ἡμέρας ἑπτά· καὶ οὕτως εἰς τὴν ῥώμην ἤλθαμεν.(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:14 ubi inventis fratribus rogati sumus manere apud eos dies septem: et sic venimus Romam.(vulgate) Act 28:14 Da fanden wir Brüder und wurden von ihnen gebeten, daß wir sieben Tage dablieben. Und also kamen wir gen Rom.(dhs) Act 28:14 where we found brethren, and were invited to stay with them seven days. And so we went toward Rome.(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:15 ============ Act 28:15 And the brethren, when they heard about us, came from there as far as the Market of Appius and Three Inns to meet us; and when Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage.(nasb) Act 28:15 κἀκεῖθεν οἱ ἀδελφοὶ ἀκούσαντες τὰ περὶ ἡμῶν ἦλθαν εἰς ἀπάντησιν ἡμῖν ἄχρι ἀππίου φόρου καὶ τριῶν ταβερνῶν, οὓς ἰδὼν ὁ παῦλος εὐχαριστήσας τῶ θεῶ ἔλαβε θάρσος.(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:15 Et inde cum audissent fratres, occurrerunt nobis usque ad Apii forum, ac tres Tabernas. Quos cum vidisset Paulus, gratias agens Deo, accepit fiduciam.(vulgate) Act 28:15 Und von dort, da die Brüder von uns hörten, gingen sie aus, uns entgegen, bis gen Appifor und Tretabern. When Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage.(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:16 ============ Act 28:16 When we entered Rome, Paul was allowed to stay by himself, with the soldier who was guarding him.(nasb) Act 28:16 ὅτε δὲ εἰσήλθομεν εἰς ῥώμην, ἐπετράπη τῶ παύλῳ μένειν καθ᾽ ἑαυτὸν σὺν τῶ φυλάσσοντι αὐτὸν στρατιώτῃ.(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:16 Cum autem venissemus Romam, permissum est Paulo manere sibimet cum custodiente se milite.~(vulgate) Act 28:16 Da wir aber gen Rom kamen, überantwortete der Unterhauptmann die Gefangenen dem obersten Hauptmann. Cumque convenissent, dicebat eis: Ego, viri fratres, nihil adversus plebem faciens, aut morem paternum, vinctus ab Jerosolymis traditus sum in manus Romanorum,(vulgate) Act 28:17 Es geschah aber nach drei Tagen, daß Paulus zusammenrief die Vornehmsten der Juden. Propter spem enim Israël catena hac circumdatus sum.(vulgate) Act 28:20 Um der Ursache willen habe ich euch gebeten, daß ich euch sehen und ansprechen möchte; denn um der Hoffnung willen Israels bin ich mit dieser Kette umgeben.(dhs) Act 28:20 For this reason therefore I have called for you, to see you and speak with you, because for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain."(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:21 ============ Act 28:21 They said to him, "We have neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor have any of the brethren come here and reported or spoken anything bad about you.(nasb) Act 28:21 οἱ δὲ πρὸς αὐτὸν εἶπαν, ἡμεῖς οὔτε γράμματα περὶ σοῦ ἐδεξάμεθα ἀπὸ τῆς ἰουδαίας, οὔτε παραγενόμενός τις τῶν ἀδελφῶν ἀπήγγειλεν ἢ ἐλάλησέν τι περὶ σοῦ πονηρόν.(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:21 At illi dixerunt ad eum: Nos neque litteras accepimus de te a Judæa, neque adveniens aliquis fratrum nuntiavit, aut locutus est quid de te malum.(vulgate) Act 28:21 Sie aber sprachen zu ihm: Wir haben weder Schrift empfangen aus Judäa deinethalben, noch ist ein Bruder gekommen, der von dir etwas Arges verkündigt oder gesagt habe.(dhs) Act 28:21 Then they said to him, "We neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor have any of the brethren who came reported or spoken any evil of you.(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:22 ============ Act 28:22 "But we desire to hear from you what your views are; for concerning this sect, it is known to us that it is spoken against everywhere."(nasb) Act 28:22 ἀξιοῦμεν δὲ παρὰ σοῦ ἀκοῦσαι ἃ φρονεῖς, περὶ μὲν γὰρ τῆς αἱρέσεως ταύτης γνωστὸν ἡμῖν ἐστιν ὅτι πανταχοῦ ἀντιλέγεται.(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:22 Rogamus autem a te audire quæ sentis: nam de secta hac notum est nobis quia ubique ei contradicitur.(vulgate) Act 28:22 Doch wollen wir von dir hören, was du hältst; denn von dieser Sekte ist uns kund, daß ihr wird an allen Enden widersprochen.(dhs) Act 28:22 But we desire to hear from you what you think; for concerning this sect, we know that it is spoken against everywhere."(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:23 ============ Act 28:23 When they had set a day for Paul, they came to him at his lodging in large numbers; and he was explaining to them by solemnly testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, from both the Law of Moses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening.(nasb) Act 28:23 ταξάμενοι δὲ αὐτῶ ἡμέραν ἦλθον πρὸς αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν ξενίαν πλείονες, οἷς ἐξετίθετο διαμαρτυρόμενος τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ πείθων τε αὐτοὺς περὶ τοῦ ἰησοῦ ἀπό τε τοῦ νόμου μωϊσέως καὶ τῶν προφητῶν ἀπὸ πρωῒ ἕως ἑσπέρας.(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:23 Cum constituissent autem illi diem, venerunt ad eum in hospitium plurimi, quibus exponebat testificans regnum Dei, suadensque eis de Jesu ex lege Moysi et prophetis a mane usque ad vesperam.(vulgate) Act 28:23 Und da sie ihm einen Tag bestimmt hatten, kamen viele zu ihm in die Herberge, welchen er auslegte und bezeugte das Reich Gottes; und er predigte ihnen von Jesus aus dem Gesetz Mose's und aus den Propheten von frühmorgens an bis an den Abend.(dhs) Act 28:23 So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:24 ============ Act 28:24 Some were being persuaded by the things spoken, but others would not believe.(nasb) Act 28:24 καὶ οἱ μὲν ἐπείθοντο τοῖς λεγομένοις, οἱ δὲ ἠπίστουν·(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:24 Et quidam credebant his quæ dicebantur: quidam vero non credebant.(vulgate) Act 28:24 Und etliche fielen dem zu, was er sagte; etliche aber glaubten nicht.(dhs) Act 28:24 And some were persuaded by the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:25 ============ Act 28:25 And when they did not agree with one another, they began leaving after Paul had spoken one parting word, "The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers,(nasb) Act 28:25 ἀσύμφωνοι δὲ ὄντες πρὸς ἀλλήλους ἀπελύοντο, εἰπόντος τοῦ παύλου ῥῆμα ἓν ὅτι καλῶς τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον ἐλάλησεν διὰ ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου πρὸς τοὺς πατέρας ὑμῶν(Nestle-Aland) Act 28:25 Cumque invicem non essent consentientes, discedebant, dicente Paulo unum verbum: Quia bene Spiritus Sanctus locutus est per Isaiam prophetam ad patres nostros,(vulgate) Act 28:25 Da sie aber untereinander mißhellig waren, gingen sie weg, als Paulus das eine Wort redete: Wohl hat der heilige Geist gesagt durch den Propheten Jesaja zu unsern Vätern(dhs) Act 28:25 So when they did not agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had said one word: "The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers,(nkjv) ======= Acts 28:26 ============ Act 28:26 saying, 'GO TO THIS PEOPLE AND SAY, "YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND;
