Today's Date: ======= Romans 4:1 ============ Rom 4:1 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found?(nasb) Rom 4:1 τί οὗν ἐροῦμεν εὑρηκέναι ἀβραὰμ τὸν προπάτορα ἡμῶν κατὰ σάρκα;(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:1 Quid ergo dicemus invenisse Abraham patrem nostrum secundum carnem?(vulgate) Rom 4:1 Was sagen wir denn von unserm Vater Abraham, daß er gefunden habe nach dem Fleisch?(dhs) Rom 4:1 What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh?(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:2 ============ Rom 4:2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.(nasb) Rom 4:2 εἰ γὰρ ἀβραὰμ ἐξ ἔργων ἐδικαιώθη, ἔχει καύχημα· ἀλλ᾽ οὐ πρὸς θεόν.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:2 Si enim Abraham ex operibus justificatus est, habet gloriam, sed non apud Deum.(vulgate) Rom 4:2 Das sagen wir: Ist Abraham durch die Werke gerecht, so hat er wohl Ruhm, aber nicht vor Gott.(dhs) Rom 4:2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:3 ============ Rom 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS."(nasb) Rom 4:3 τί γὰρ ἡ γραφὴ λέγει; ἐπίστευσεν δὲ ἀβραὰμ τῶ θεῶ, καὶ ἐλογίσθη αὐτῶ εἰς δικαιοσύνην.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:3 Quid enim dicit Scriptura? Credidit Abraham Deo, et reputatam est illi ad justitiam.(vulgate) Rom 4:3 Was sagt denn die Schrift? "Abraham hat Gott geglaubt, und das ist ihm zur Gerechtigkeit gerechnet."(dhs) Rom 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:4 ============ Rom 4:4 Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due.(nasb) Rom 4:4 τῶ δὲ ἐργαζομένῳ ὁ μισθὸς οὐ λογίζεται κατὰ χάριν ἀλλὰ κατὰ ὀφείλημα·(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:4 Ei autem qui operatur, merces non imputatur secundum gratiam, sed secundum debitum.(vulgate) Rom 4:4 Dem aber, der mit Werken umgeht, wird der Lohn nicht aus Gnade zugerechnet, sondern aus Pflicht.(dhs) Rom 4:4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:5 ============ Rom 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,(nasb) Rom 4:5 τῶ δὲ μὴ ἐργαζομένῳ, πιστεύοντι δὲ ἐπὶ τὸν δικαιοῦντα τὸν ἀσεβῆ, λογίζεται ἡ πίστις αὐτοῦ εἰς δικαιοσύνην,(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:5 Ei vero qui non operatur, credenti autem in eum, qui justificat impium, reputatur fides ejus ad justitiam secundum propositum gratiæ Dei.(vulgate) Rom 4:5 Dem aber, der nicht mit Werken umgeht, glaubt aber an den, der die Gottlosen gerecht macht, dem wird sein Glaube gerechnet zur Gerechtigkeit.(dhs) Rom 4:5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:6 ============ Rom 4:6 just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:(nasb) Rom 4:6 καθάπερ καὶ δαυὶδ λέγει τὸν μακαρισμὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ᾧ ὁ θεὸς λογίζεται δικαιοσύνην χωρὶς ἔργων,(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:6 Sicut et David dicit beatitudinem hominis, cui Deus accepto fert justitiam sine operibus:(vulgate) Rom 4:6 Nach welcher Weise auch David sagt, daß die Seligkeit sei allein des Menschen, welchem Gott zurechnet die Gerechtigkeit ohne Zutun der Werke, da er spricht:(dhs) Rom 4:6 just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:7 ============ Rom 4:7 "BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED.(nasb) Rom 4:7 μακάριοι ὧν ἀφέθησαν αἱ ἀνομίαι καὶ ὧν ἐπεκαλύφθησαν αἱ ἁμαρτίαι·(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:7 [Beati, quorum remissæ sunt iniquitates, et quorum tecta sunt peccata.(vulgate) Rom 4:7 "Selig sind die, welchen ihre Ungerechtigkeiten vergeben sind und welchen ihre Sünden bedeckt sind!(dhs) Rom 4:7 "Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered;(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:8 ============ Rom 4:8 "BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT."(nasb) Rom 4:8 μακάριος ἀνὴρ οὖ οὐ μὴ λογίσηται κύριος ἁμαρτίαν.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:8 Beatus vir, cui non imputavit Dominus peccatum.](vulgate) Rom 4:8 Selig ist der Mann, welchem Gott die Sünde nicht zurechnet!"(dhs) Rom 4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin."(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:9 ============ Rom 4:9 Is this blessing then on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say, "FAITH WAS CREDITED TO ABRAHAM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS."(nasb) Rom 4:9 ὁ μακαρισμὸς οὗν οὖτος ἐπὶ τὴν περιτομὴν ἢ καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν ἀκροβυστίαν; λέγομεν γάρ, ἐλογίσθη τῶ ἀβραὰμ ἡ πίστις εἰς δικαιοσύνην.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:9 Beatitudo ergo hæc in circumcisione tantum manet, an etiam in præputio? Non in circumcisione, sed in præputio.(vulgate) Rom 4:10 Wie ist er ihm denn zugerechnet? Als er beschnitten oder als er unbeschnitten war? Nicht, als er beschnitten, sondern als er unbeschnitten war.(dhs) Rom 4:10 How then was it accounted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised.(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:11 ============ Rom 4:11 and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while uncircumcised, so that he might be the father of all who believe without being circumcised, that righteousness might be credited to them,(nasb) Rom 4:11 καὶ σημεῖον ἔλαβεν περιτομῆς, σφραγῖδα τῆς δικαιοσύνης τῆς πίστεως τῆς ἐν τῇ ἀκροβυστίᾳ, εἰς τὸ εἶναι αὐτὸν πατέρα πάντων τῶν πιστευόντων δι᾽ ἀκροβυστίας, εἰς τὸ λογισθῆναι [καὶ] αὐτοῖς [τὴν] δικαιοσύνην,(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:11 Et signum accepit circumcisionis, signaculum justitiæ fidei, quæ est in præputio: ut sit pater omnium credentium per præputium, ut reputetur et illis ad justitiam:(vulgate) Rom 4:11 Das Zeichen der Beschneidung empfing er zum Siegel der Gerechtigkeit des Glaubens, welchen er hatte, als er noch nicht beschnitten war, auf daß er würde ein Vater aller, die da glauben und nicht beschnitten sind, daß ihnen solches auch gerechnet werde zur Gerechtigkeit;(dhs) Rom 4:11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also,(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:12 ============ Rom 4:12 and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also follow in the steps of the faith of our father Abraham which he had while uncircumcised.(nasb) Rom 4:12 καὶ πατέρα περιτομῆς τοῖς οὐκ ἐκ περιτομῆς μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ τοῖς στοιχοῦσιν τοῖς ἴχνεσιν τῆς ἐν ἀκροβυστίᾳ πίστεως τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν ἀβραάμ.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:12 et sit pater circumcisionis non iis tantum, qui sunt ex circumcisione, sed et iis qui sectantur vestigia fidei, quæ est in præputio patris nostri Abrahæ.~(vulgate) Rom 4:12 und würde auch ein Vater der Beschneidung, derer, die nicht allein beschnitten sind, sondern auch wandeln in den Fußtapfen des Glaubens, welcher war in unserm Vater Abraham, als er noch unbeschnitten war.(dhs) Rom 4:12 and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the faith which our father Abraham had while still uncircumcised.(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:13 ============ Rom 4:13 For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would be heir of the world was not through the Law, but through the righteousness of faith.(nasb) Rom 4:13 οὐ γὰρ διὰ νόμου ἡ ἐπαγγελία τῶ ἀβραὰμ ἢ τῶ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ, τὸ κληρονόμον αὐτὸν εἶναι κόσμου, ἀλλὰ διὰ δικαιοσύνης πίστεως·(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:13 Non enim per legem promissio Abrahæ, aut semini ejus ut hæres esset mundi: sed per justitiam fidei.(vulgate) Rom 4:13 Denn die Verheißung, daß er sollte sein der Welt Erbe, ist nicht geschehen Abraham oder seinem Samen durchs Gesetz, sondern durch die Gerechtigkeit des Glaubens.(dhs) Rom 4:13 For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:14 ============ Rom 4:14 For if those who are of the Law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise is nullified;(nasb) Rom 4:14 εἰ γὰρ οἱ ἐκ νόμου κληρονόμοι, κεκένωται ἡ πίστις καὶ κατήργηται ἡ ἐπαγγελία·(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:14 Si enim qui ex lege, hæredes sunt: exinanita est fides, abolita est promissio.(vulgate) Rom 4:14 Denn wo die vom Gesetz Erben sind, so ist der Glaube nichts, und die Verheißung ist abgetan.(dhs) Rom 4:14 For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect,(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:15 ============ Rom 4:15 for the Law brings about wrath, but where there is no law, there also is no violation.(nasb) Rom 4:15 ὁ γὰρ νόμος ὀργὴν κατεργάζεται· οὖ δὲ οὐκ ἔστιν νόμος, οὐδὲ παράβασις.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:15 Lex enim iram operatur. Ubi enim non est lex, nec prævaricatio.(vulgate) Rom 4:15 Sintemal das Gesetz nur Zorn anrichtet; denn wo das Gesetz nicht ist, da ist auch keine Übertretung.(dhs) Rom 4:15 because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression.(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:16 ============ Rom 4:16 For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants, not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all,(nasb) Rom 4:16 διὰ τοῦτο ἐκ πίστεως, ἵνα κατὰ χάριν, εἰς τὸ εἶναι βεβαίαν τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν παντὶ τῶ σπέρματι, οὐ τῶ ἐκ τοῦ νόμου μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ τῶ ἐκ πίστεως ἀβραάμ ὅς ἐστιν πατὴρ πάντων ἡμῶν,(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:16 Ideo ex fide, ut secundum gratiam firma sit promissio omni semini, non ei qui ex lege est solum, sed et ei qui ex fide est Abrahæ, qui pater est omnium nostrum(vulgate) Rom 4:16 Derhalben muß die Gerechtigkeit durch den Glauben kommen, auf daß sie sei aus Gnaden und die Verheißung fest bleibe allem Samen, nicht dem allein, der unter dem Gesetz ist, sondern auch dem, der des Glaubens Abrahams presence of Him whom he believed, even God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist.(nasb) Rom 4:17 καθὼς γέγραπται ὅτι πατέρα πολλῶν ἐθνῶν τέθεικά σε κατέναντι οὖ ἐπίστευσεν θεοῦ τοῦ ζῳοποιοῦντος τοὺς νεκροὺς καὶ καλοῦντος τὰ μὴ ὄντα ὡς ὄντα·(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:17 (sicut scriptum est: Quia patrem multarum gentium posui te) ante Deum, cui credidit, qui vivificat mortuos, et vocat ea quæ non sunt, tamquam ea quæ sunt:(vulgate) Rom 4:17 (wie geschrieben steht: "Ich habe dich gesetzt zum Vater vieler Völker") vor Gott, dem er geglaubt hat, der da many nations according to that which had been spoken, "SO SHALL YOUR DESCENDANTS BE."(nasb) Rom 4:18 ὃς παρ᾽ ἐλπίδα ἐπ᾽ ἐλπίδι ἐπίστευσεν εἰς τὸ γενέσθαι αὐτὸν πατέρα πολλῶν ἐθνῶν κατὰ τὸ εἰρημένον, οὕτως ἔσται τὸ σπέρμα σου·(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:18 qui contra spem in spem credidit, ut fieret pater multarum gentium secundum quod dictum est ei: Sic erit semen tuum.(vulgate) Rom 4:18 Und er hat geglaubt auf Hoffnung, da nichts zu hoffen war, auf daß er würde ein Vater vieler Völker, wie denn zu ihm gesagt ist: "Also soll dein Same sein."(dhs) Rom 4:18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, "So shall your descendants be."(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:19 ============ Rom 4:19 Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah's womb;(nasb) Rom 4:19 καὶ μὴ ἀσθενήσας τῇ πίστει κατενόησεν τὸ ἑαυτοῦ σῶμα [ἤδη] νενεκρωμένον, ἑκατονταετής που ὑπάρχων, καὶ τὴν νέκρωσιν τῆς μήτρας σάρρας,(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:19 Et non infirmatus est fide, nec consideravit corpus suum emortuum, cum jam fere centum esset annorum, et emortuam vulvam Saræ.(vulgate) Rom 4:19 Und er ward nicht schwach im Glauben, sah auch nicht an seinem eigenen Leib, welcher schon erstorben war (weil er schon fast hundertjährig war), auch nicht den erstorbenen Leib der Sara;(dhs) Rom 4:19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb.(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:20 ============ Rom 4:20 yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God,(nasb) Rom 4:20 εἰς δὲ τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν τοῦ θεοῦ οὐ διεκρίθη τῇ ἀπιστίᾳ ἀλλ᾽ ἐνεδυναμώθη τῇ πίστει, δοὺς δόξαν τῶ θεῶ(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:20 In repromissione etiam Dei non hæsitavit diffidentia, sed confortatus est fide, dans gloriam Deo:(vulgate) Rom 4:20 denn er zweifelte nicht an der Verheißung Gottes durch Unglauben, sondern ward stark im Glauben und gab Gott die Ehre(dhs) Rom 4:20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:21 ============ Rom 4:21 and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.(nasb) Rom 4:21 καὶ πληροφορηθεὶς ὅτι ὃ ἐπήγγελται δυνατός ἐστιν καὶ ποιῆσαι.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:21 plenissime sciens, quia quæcumque promisit, potens est et facere.(vulgate) Rom 4:21 und wußte aufs allergewisseste, daß, was Gott verheißt, das kann er auch tun.(dhs) Rom 4:21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:22 ============ Rom 4:22 Therefore IT WAS ALSO CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.(nasb) Rom 4:22 διὸ [καὶ] ἐλογίσθη αὐτῶ εἰς δικαιοσύνην.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:22 Ideo et reputatum est illi ad Now not for his sake only was it written that it was credited to him,(nasb) Rom 4:23 οὐκ ἐγράφη δὲ δι᾽ αὐτὸν μόνον ὅτι ἐλογίσθη αὐτῶ,(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:23 Non est autem scriptum tantum propter ipsum quia reputatum est illi ad justitiam:(vulgate) Rom 4:23 Das ist aber nicht geschrieben allein um seinetwillen, daß es ihm zugerechnet ist,(dhs) Rom 4:23 Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him,(nkjv) ======= Romans 4:24 ============ Rom 4:24 but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, as those who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,(nasb) Rom 4:24 ἀλλὰ καὶ δι᾽ ἡμᾶς οἷς μέλλει λογίζεσθαι, τοῖς πιστεύουσιν ἐπὶ τὸν ἐγείραντα ἰησοῦν τὸν κύριον ἡμῶν ἐκ νεκρῶν,(Nestle-Aland) Rom 4:24 sed et propter nos, quibus reputabitur credentibus in eum, qui suscitavit Jesum Christum Dominum nostrum a mortuis,(vulgate) Rom 4:24 sondern auch um unsertwillen, welchen es zugerechnet werden soll, so wir glauben an den, der unsern HERRN Jesus auferweckt hat von den Toten,(dhs) Rom 4:24 but also for us.
