Today's Date: ======= Romans 7:1 ============ Rom 7:1 Or do you not know, brethren (for I am speaking to those who know the law), that the law has jurisdiction over a person as long as he lives?(nasb) Rom 7:1 ἢ ἀγνοεῖτε, ἀδελφοί, γινώσκουσιν γὰρ νόμον λαλῶ, ὅτι ὁ νόμος κυριεύει τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐφ᾽ ὅσον χρόνον ζῇ;(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:1 An ignoratis, fratres (scientibus enim legem loquor), quia lex in homine dominatur quanto tempore vivit?(vulgate) Rom 7:1 Wisset ihr nicht, liebe Brüder (denn ich rede mit solchen, die das Gesetz wissen), daß das Gesetz herrscht über den Menschen solange er lebt?(dhs) Rom 7:1 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:2 ============ Rom 7:2 For the married woman is bound by law to her husband while he is living; but if her husband dies, she is released from the law concerning the husband.(nasb) Rom 7:2 ἡ γὰρ ὕπανδρος γυνὴ τῶ ζῶντι ἀνδρὶ δέδεται νόμῳ· ἐὰν δὲ ἀποθάνῃ ὁ ἀνήρ, κατήργηται ἀπὸ τοῦ νόμου τοῦ ἀνδρός.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:2 Nam quæ sub viro est mulier, vivente viro, alligata est legi: si autem mortuus fuerit vir ejus, soluta est a lege viri.(vulgate) Rom 7:2 Denn ein Weib, das unter dem Manne ist, ist an ihn gebunden durch das Gesetz, solange der Mann lebt; so aber der Mann stirbt, so ist sie los vom Gesetz, das den Mann betrifft.(dhs) Rom 7:2 For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:3 ============ Rom 7:3 So then, if while her husband is living she is joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress though she is joined to another man.(nasb) Rom 7:3 ἄρα οὗν ζῶντος τοῦ ἀνδρὸς μοιχαλὶς χρηματίσει ἐὰν γένηται ἀνδρὶ ἑτέρῳ· ἐὰν δὲ ἀποθάνῃ ὁ ἀνήρ, ἐλευθέρα ἐστὶν ἀπὸ τοῦ νόμου, τοῦ μὴ εἶναι αὐτὴν μοιχαλίδα γενομένην ἀνδρὶ ἑτέρῳ.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:3 Igitur, vivente viro, vocabitur adultera si fuerit cum alio viro: si autem mortuus fuerit vir ejus, liberata est a lege viri, ut non sit adultera si fuerit cum alio viro.(vulgate) Rom 7:3 Wo sie nun eines andern Mannes wird, solange der Mann lebt, wird sie eine Ehebrecherin geheißen; so aber der Mann stirbt, ist sie frei vom Gesetz, daß sie nicht eine Ehebrecherin ist, wo sie eines andern Mannes wird.(dhs) Rom 7:3 So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:4 ============ Rom 7:4 Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God.(nasb) Rom 7:4 ὥστε, ἀδελφοί μου, καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐθανατώθητε τῶ νόμῳ διὰ τοῦ σώματος τοῦ χριστοῦ, εἰς τὸ γενέσθαι ὑμᾶς ἑτέρῳ, τῶ ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐγερθέντι, ἵνα καρποφορήσωμεν τῶ θεῶ.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:4 Itaque fratres mei, et vos mortificati estis legi per corpus Christi: ut sitis alterius, qui ex mortuis resurrexit, ut fructificemus Deo.(vulgate) Rom 7:4 Also seid auch ihr, meine Brüder, getötet dem Gesetz durch den Leib Christi, daß ihr eines andern seid, nämlich des, der von den Toten auferweckt ist, auf daß wir Gott Frucht bringen.(dhs) Rom 7:4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another--to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:5 ============ Rom 7:5 For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were aroused by the Law, were at work in the members of our body to bear fruit for death.(nasb) Rom 7:5 ὅτε γὰρ ἦμεν ἐν τῇ σαρκί, τὰ παθήματα τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν τὰ διὰ τοῦ νόμου ἐνηργεῖτο ἐν τοῖς μέλεσιν ἡμῶν εἰς τὸ καρποφορῆσαι τῶ θανάτῳ·(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:5 Cum enim essemus in carne, passiones peccatorum, quæ per legem erant, operabantur in membris nostris, ut fructificarent morti.(vulgate) Rom 7:5 Denn da wir im Fleisch waren, da waren die sündigen Lüste, welche durchs Gesetz sich erregten, kräftig in unsern Gliedern, dem Tode Frucht zu bringen.(dhs) Rom 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:6 ============ Rom 7:6 But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.(nasb) Rom 7:6 νυνὶ δὲ κατηργήθημεν ἀπὸ τοῦ νόμου, ἀποθανόντες ἐν ᾧ κατειχόμεθα, ὥστε δουλεύειν ἡμᾶς ἐν καινότητι πνεύματος καὶ οὐ παλαιότητι γράμματος.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:6 Nunc autem soluti sumus a lege mortis, in qua detinebamur, ita ut serviamus in novitate spiritus, et non in vetustate litteræ.~(vulgate) Rom 7:6 Nun aber sind wir vom Gesetz los und ihm abgestorben, das uns gefangenhielt, also daß wir dienen sollen im neuen Wesen des Geistes und nicht im alten Wesen des Buchstabens.(dhs) Rom 7:6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:7 ============ Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, "YOU SHALL NOT COVET."(nasb) Rom 7:7 τί οὗν ἐροῦμεν; ὁ νόμος ἁμαρτία; μὴ γένοιτο· ἀλλὰ τὴν ἁμαρτίαν οὐκ ἔγνων εἰ μὴ διὰ νόμου, τήν τε γὰρ ἐπιθυμίαν οὐκ ᾔδειν εἰ μὴ ὁ νόμος ἔλεγεν, οὐκ ἐπιθυμήσεις.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:7 Quid ergo dicemus? lex peccatum est? Absit. Sed peccatum non cognovi, nisi per legem: nam concupiscentiam nesciebam, nisi lex diceret: Non concupisces.(vulgate) Rom 7:7 Was wollen wir denn nun sagen? Ist das Gesetz Sünde? Das sei ferne! Aber die Sünde erkannte ich nicht, außer durchs Gesetz. Denn ich wußte nichts von der Lust, wo das Gesetz nicht hätte gesagt: "Laß dich nicht gelüsten!"(dhs) Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, "You shall not covet."(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:8 ============ Rom 7:8 But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind; for apart from the Law sin is dead.(nasb) Rom 7:8 ἀφορμὴν δὲ λαβοῦσα ἡ ἁμαρτία διὰ τῆς ἐντολῆς κατειργάσατο ἐν ἐμοὶ πᾶσαν ἐπιθυμίαν· χωρὶς γὰρ νόμου ἁμαρτία νεκρά.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:8 Occasione autem accepta, peccatum per mandatum operatum est in me omnem concupiscentiam. Sine lege enim peccatum mortuum erat.(vulgate) Rom 7:8 Da nahm aber die Sünde Ursache am Gebot und erregte in mir allerlei Lust; denn ohne das Gesetz war die Sünde tot.(dhs) Rom 7:8 But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:9 ============ Rom 7:9 I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin became alive and I died;(nasb) Rom 7:9 ἐγὼ δὲ ἔζων χωρὶς νόμου ποτέ· ἐλθούσης δὲ τῆς ἐντολῆς ἡ ἁμαρτία ἀνέζησεν,(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:9 Ego autem vivebam sine lege aliquando: sed cum venisset mandatum, peccatum revixit.(vulgate) Rom 7:9 Ich aber lebte weiland ohne Gesetz; da aber das Gebot kam, ward die Sünde wieder lebendig,(dhs) Rom 7:9 I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:10 ============ Rom 7:10 and this commandment, which was to result in life, proved to result in death for me;(nasb) Rom 7:10 ἐγὼ δὲ ἀπέθανον, καὶ εὑρέθη μοι ἡ ἐντολὴ ἡ εἰς ζωὴν αὕτη εἰς θάνατον·(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:10 Ego autem mortuus sum: et inventum est mihi mandatum, quod erat ad vitam, hoc esse ad mortem.(vulgate) Rom 7:10 ich aber starb; und es fand sich, daß das Gebot mir zum Tode gereichte, das mir doch zum Leben gegeben war.(dhs) Rom 7:10 And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:11 ============ Rom 7:11 for sin, taking an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me.(nasb) Rom 7:11 ἡ γὰρ ἁμαρτία ἀφορμὴν λαβοῦσα διὰ τῆς ἐντολῆς ἐξηπάτησέν με καὶ δι᾽ αὐτῆς ἀπέκτεινεν.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:11 Nam peccatum occasione accepta per mandatum, seduxit me, et per illud occidit.(vulgate) Rom 7:11 Denn die Sünde nahm Ursache am Gebot und betrog mich und tötete mich durch dasselbe Gebot.(dhs) Rom 7:11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:12 ============ Rom 7:12 So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.(nasb) Rom 7:12 ὥστε ὁ μὲν νόμος ἅγιος, καὶ ἡ ἐντολὴ ἁγία καὶ δικαία καὶ ἀγαθή.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:12 Itaque lex quidem sancta, et mandatum sanctum, et justum, et bonum.~(vulgate) Rom 7:12 Das Gesetz ist ja heilig, und das Gebot ist heilig, recht und gut.(dhs) Rom 7:12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:13 ============ Rom 7:13 Therefore did that which is good become a cause of death for me? May it never be! Rather it was sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin by effecting my death through that which is good, so that through the commandment sin would become utterly sinful.(nasb) Rom 7:13 τὸ οὗν ἀγαθὸν ἐμοὶ ἐγένετο θάνατος; μὴ γένοιτο· ἀλλὰ ἡ ἁμαρτία, ἵνα φανῇ ἁμαρτία, διὰ τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ μοι κατεργαζομένη θάνατον· ἵνα γένηται καθ᾽ ὑπερβολὴν ἁμαρτωλὸς ἡ ἁμαρτία διὰ τῆς ἐντολῆς.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:13 Quod ergo bonum est, mihi factum est mors? Absit. Sed peccatum, ut appareat peccatum, per bonum operatum est mihi mortem: ut fiat supra modum peccans peccatum per mandatum.(vulgate) Rom 7:13 Ist denn, das da gut ist, mir zum Tod geworden? Das sei ferne! Aber die Sünde, auf daß sie erscheine, wie sie Sünde ist, hat sie mir durch das Gute den Tod gewirkt, auf daß die Sünde würde überaus sündig durchs Gebot.(dhs) Rom 7:13 Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:14 ============ Rom 7:14 For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin.(nasb) Rom 7:14 οἴδαμεν γὰρ ὅτι ὁ νόμος πνευματικός ἐστιν· ἐγὼ δὲ σάρκινός εἰμι, πεπραμένος ὑπὸ τὴν ἁμαρτίαν.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:14 Scimus enim quia lex spiritualis est: ego autem carnalis sum, venundatus sub peccato.(vulgate) Rom 7:14 Denn wir wissen, daß das Gesetz geistlich ist; ich bin aber fleischlich, unter die Sünde verkauft.(dhs) Rom 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:15 ============ Rom 7:15 For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate.(nasb) Rom 7:15 ὃ γὰρ κατεργάζομαι οὐ γινώσκω· οὐ γὰρ ὃ θέλω τοῦτο πράσσω, ἀλλ᾽ ὃ μισῶ τοῦτο ποιῶ.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:15 Quod enim operor, non intelligo: non enim quod volo bonum, hoc ago: sed quod odi malum, illud facio.(vulgate) Rom 7:15 Denn ich weiß nicht, was ich tue. Denn ich tue nicht, was ich will; sondern, was ich hasse, das tue ich.(dhs) Rom 7:15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. Wollen habe ich wohl, aber vollbringen das Gute finde ich nicht.(dhs) Rom 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:19 ============ Rom 7:19 For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want.(nasb) Rom 7:19 οὐ γὰρ ὃ θέλω ποιῶ ἀγαθόν, ἀλλὰ ὃ οὐ θέλω κακὸν τοῦτο πράσσω.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:19 Non enim quod volo bonum, hoc facio: sed quod nolo malum, hoc ago.(vulgate) Rom 7:19 Denn das Gute, das ich will, das tue ich nicht; sondern das Böse, das ich nicht will, das tue ich.(dhs) Rom 7:19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:20 ============ Rom 7:20 But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.(nasb) Rom 7:20 εἰ δὲ ὃ οὐ θέλω [ἐγὼ] τοῦτο ποιῶ, οὐκέτι ἐγὼ κατεργάζομαι αὐτὸ ἀλλὰ ἡ οἰκοῦσα ἐν ἐμοὶ ἁμαρτία.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:20 Si autem quod nolo, illud facio: jam non ego operor illud, sed quod habitat in me, peccatum.(vulgate) Rom 7:20 So ich aber tue, was ich nicht will, so tue ich dasselbe nicht; sondern die Sünde, die in mir wohnt.(dhs) Rom 7:20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:21 ============ Rom 7:21 I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good.(nasb) Rom 7:21 εὑρίσκω ἄρα τὸν νόμον τῶ θέλοντι ἐμοὶ ποιεῖν τὸ καλὸν ὅτι ἐμοὶ τὸ κακὸν παράκειται·(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:21 Invenio igitur legem, volenti mihi facere bonum, quoniam mihi malum adjacet:(vulgate) Rom 7:21 So finde ich mir nun ein Gesetz, der ich will das Gute tun, daß mir das Böse anhangt.(dhs) Rom 7:21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:22 ============ Rom 7:22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man,(nasb) Rom 7:22 συνήδομαι γὰρ τῶ νόμῳ τοῦ θεοῦ κατὰ τὸν ἔσω ἄνθρωπον,(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:22 condelector enim legi Dei secundum interiorem hominem:(vulgate) Rom 7:22 Denn ich habe Lust an Gottes Gesetz nach dem inwendigen Menschen.(dhs) Rom 7:22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:23 ============ Rom 7:23 but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members.(nasb) Rom 7:23 βλέπω δὲ ἕτερον νόμον ἐν τοῖς μέλεσίν μου ἀντιστρατευόμενον τῶ νόμῳ τοῦ νοός μου καὶ αἰχμαλωτίζοντά με ἐν τῶ νόμῳ τῆς ἁμαρτίας τῶ ὄντι ἐν τοῖς μέλεσίν μου.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:23 video autem aliam legem in membris meis, repugnantem legi mentis meæ, et captivantem me in lege peccati, quæ est in membris meis.(vulgate) Rom 7:23 Ich sehe aber ein ander Gesetz in meinen Gliedern, das da widerstreitet dem Gesetz in meinem Gemüte und nimmt mich gefangen in der Sünde Gesetz, welches ist in meinen Gliedern.(dhs) Rom 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:24 ============ Rom 7:24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?(nasb) Rom 7:24 ταλαίπωρος ἐγὼ ἄνθρωπος· τίς με ῥύσεται ἐκ τοῦ σώματος τοῦ θανάτου τούτου;(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:24 Infelix ego homo, quis me liberabit de corpore mortis hujus?(vulgate) Rom 7:24 Ich elender Mensch! wer wird mich erlösen von dem Leibe dieses Todes?(dhs) Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?(nkjv) ======= Romans 7:25 ============ Rom 7:25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.(nasb) Rom 7:25 χάρις δὲ τῶ θεῶ διὰ ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν. ἄρα οὗν αὐτὸς ἐγὼ τῶ μὲν νοῒ δουλεύω νόμῳ θεοῦ, τῇ δὲ σαρκὶ νόμῳ ἁμαρτίας.(Nestle-Aland) Rom 7:25 gratia Dei per Jesum Christum Dominum nostrum. Igitur ego ipse mente servio legi Dei: carne autem, legi peccati.(vulgate) Rom 7:25 Ich danke Gott durch Jesum Christum, unserm HERRN. So diene ich nun mit dem Gemüte dem Gesetz Gottes, aber mit dem Fleische dem Gesetz der Sünde.(dhs) Rom 7:25 I thank God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!
