Today's Date: ======= Ecclesiastes 8:1 ============ Ecl 8:1 Who is like the wise man and who knows the interpretation of a matter? A man's wisdom illumines him and causes his stern face to beam.(nasb) Ecl 8:1 [Sapientia hominis lucet in vultu ejus, et potentissimus faciem illius commutabit.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:1 ¿Quién como el sabio? ¿Y quién como el que sabe la declaración de las cosas? La sabiduría del hombre iluminará su rostro, y la tosquedad de su semblante se mudará.(E) Ecclésiaste 8:1 Qui est comme le sage, et qui connaît l'explication des choses? La sagesse d'un homme fait briller son visage, et la sévérité de sa face est changée.(F) Ecl 8:1 Wer ist wie der Weise, und wer kann die Dinge auslegen? Die Weisheit des Menschen erleuchtet sein Angesicht; aber ein freches Angesicht wird gehaßt.(D) Ecl 8:1 τίς οἶδεν σοφούς καὶ τίς οἶδεν λύσιν ῥήματος σοφία ἀνθρώπου φωτιεῖ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀναιδὴς προσώπῳ αὐτοῦ μισηθήσεται(lxx) Ecl 8:1 Who is like a wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man's wisdom makes his face shine, And the sternness of his face is changed.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:2 ============ Ecl 8:2 I say, "Keep the command of the king because of the oath before God.(nasb) Ecl 8:2 Ego os regis observo, et præcepta juramenti Dei.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:2 Yo [te aconsejo] que guardes el mandamiento del rey y la palabra del juramento de Dios.(E) Ecclésiaste 8:2 Je te dis: Observe les ordres du roi, et cela à cause du serment fait à Dieu.(F) Ecl 8:2 Halte das Wort des Königs und den Eid Gottes.(D) Ecl 8:2 στόμα βασιλέως φύλαξον καὶ περὶ λόγου ὅρκου θεοῦ μὴ σπουδάσῃς(lxx) Ecl 8:2 I say, "Keep the king's commandment for the sake of your oath to God.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:3 ============ Ecl 8:3 Do not be in a hurry to leave him. Do not join in an evil matter, for he will do whatever he pleases."(nasb) Ecl 8:3 Ne festines recedere a facie ejus, neque permaneas in opere malo: quia omne quod voluerit faciet.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:3 No te apresures a irte de delante de él, ni en cosa mala persistas; porque él hará todo lo que le plazca.(E) Ecclésiaste 8:3 Ne te hâte pas de t'éloigner de lui, et ne persiste pas dans une chose mauvaise: car il peut faire tout ce qui lui plaît,(F) Ecl 8:3 Eile nicht zu gehen von seinem Angesicht, und bleibe nicht in böser Sache; denn er tut, was er will.(D) Ecl 8:3 ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ πορεύσῃ μὴ στῇς ἐν λόγῳ πονηρῷ ὅτι πᾶν ὃ ἐὰν θελήσῃ ποιήσει(lxx) Ecl 8:3 Do not be hasty to go from his presence. Do not take your stand for an evil thing, for he does whatever pleases him."(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:4 ============ Ecl 8:4 Since the word of the king is authoritative, who will say to him, "What are you doing?"(nasb) Ecl 8:4 Et sermo illius potestate plenus est, nec dicere ei quisquam potest: Quare ita facis?(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:4 Pues la palabra del rey es con potestad, ¿y quién le dirá: ¿Qué haces?(E) Ecclésiaste 8:4 parce que la parole du roi est puissante; et qui lui dira: Que fais-tu?(F) Ecl 8:4 In des Königs Wort ist Gewalt; und wer mag zu ihm sagen: Was machst du?(D) Ecl 8:4 καθὼς λαλεῖ βασιλεὺς ἐξουσιάζων καὶ τίς ἐρεῖ αὐτῷ τί ποιήσεις(lxx) Ecl 8:4 Where the word of a king is, there is power; And who may say to him, "What are you doing?"(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:5 ============ Ecl 8:5 He who keeps a royal command experiences no trouble, for a wise heart knows the proper time and procedure.(nasb) Ecl 8:5 Qui custodit præceptum non experietur quidquam mali. Tempus et responsionem cor sapientis intelligit.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:5 El que guarda el mandamiento no experimentará mal; y el corazón del sabio discierne el tiempo y el juicio.(E) Ecclésiaste 8:5 Celui qui observe le commandement ne connaît point de chose mauvaise, et le coeur du sage connaît le temps et le jugement.(F) Ecl 8:5 Wer das Gebot hält, der wird nichts Böses erfahren; aber eines Weisen Herz weiß Zeit und Weise.(D) Ecl 8:5 ὁ φυλάσσων ἐντολὴν οὐ γνώσεται ῥῆμα πονηρόν καὶ καιρὸν κρίσεως γινώσκει καρδία σοφοῦ(lxx) Ecl 8:5 He who keeps his command will experience nothing harmful; And a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment,(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:6 ============ Ecl 8:6 For there is a proper time and procedure for every delight, though a man's trouble is heavy upon him.(nasb) Ecl 8:6 Omni negotio tempus est, et opportunitas: et multa hominis afflictio,(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:6 Porque para todo lo que quisieres hay tiempo y juicio; mas el trabajo del hombre es grande sobre él;(E) Ecclésiaste 8:6 Car il y a pour toute chose un temps et un jugement, quand le malheur accable l'homme.(F) Ecl 8:6 Denn ein jeglich Vornehmen hat seine Zeit und Weise; denn des Unglücks des Menschen ist viel bei ihm.(D) Ecl 8:6 ὅτι παντὶ πράγματι ἔστιν καιρὸς καὶ κρίσις ὅτι γνῶσις τοῦ ἀνθρώπου πολλὴ ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν(lxx) Ecl 8:6 Because for every matter there is a time and judgment, Though the misery of man increases greatly.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:7 ============ Ecl 8:7 If no one knows what will happen, who can tell him when it will happen?(nasb) Ecl 8:7 quia ignorat præterita, et futura nullo scire potest nuntio.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:7 Porque no sabe lo que ha de ser; y el cuándo haya de ser, ¿quién se lo enseñará?(E) Ecclésiaste 8:7 Mais il ne sait point ce qui arrivera, et qui lui dira comment cela arrivera?(F) Ecl 8:7 Denn er weiß nicht, was geschehen wird; und wer soll ihm sagen, wie es werden soll?(D) Ecl 8:7 ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν γινώσκων τί τὸ ἐσόμενον ὅτι καθὼς ἔσται τίς ἀναγγελεῖ αὐτῷ(lxx) Ecl 8:7 For he does not know what will happen; So who can tell him when it will occur?(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:8 ============ Ecl 8:8 No man has authority to restrain the wind with the wind, or authority over the day of death; and there is no discharge in the time of war, and evil will not deliver those who practice it.(nasb) Ecl 8:8 Non est in hominis potestate prohibere spiritum, nec habet potestatem in die mortis: nec sinitur quiescere ingruente bello, neque salvabit impietas impium.]~(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:8 No [hay] hombre que tenga potestad sobre el espíritu para retener el espíritu, ni potestad sobre el día de la muerte; y no se da de baja en tal guerra, ni la impiedad librará al que se entregue a ella.(E) Ecclésiaste 8:8 L'homme n'est pas maître de son souffle pour pouvoir le retenir, et il n'a aucune puissance sur le jour de la mort; il n'y a point de délivrance dans ce combat, et la méchanceté ne saurait sauver les méchants.(F) Ecl 8:8 Ein Mensch hat nicht Macht über den Geist, den Geist zurückzuhalten, und hat nicht Macht über den Tag des Todes, und keiner wird losgelassen im Streit; und das gottlose Wesen errettet den Gottlosen nicht.(D) Ecl 8:8 οὐκ ἔστιν ἄνθρωπος ἐξουσιάζων ἐν πνεύματι τοῦ κωλῦσαι σὺν τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐξουσία ἐν ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ θανάτου καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἀποστολὴ ἐν τῷ πολέμῳ καὶ οὐ διασώσει ἀσέβεια τὸν παρ᾽ αὐτῆς(lxx) Ecl 8:8 No one has power over the spirit to retain the spirit, And no one has power in the day of death. There is no release from that war, And wickedness will not deliver those who are given to it.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:9 ============ Ecl 8:9 All this I have seen and applied my mind to every deed that has been done under the sun wherein a man has exercised authority over another man to his hurt.(nasb) Ecl 8:9 [Omnia hæc consideravi, et dedi cor meum in cunctis operibus quæ fiunt sub sole. Interdum dominatur homo homini in malum suum.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:9 Todo esto he visto, y he puesto mi corazón en todo lo que debajo del sol se hace; [hay] tiempo en que el hombre se enseñorea del hombre para su propio mal.(E) Ecclésiaste 8:9 J'ai vu tout cela, et j'ai appliqué mon coeur à tout ce qui se fait sous le soleil. Il y a un temps où l'homme domine sur l'homme pour le rendre malheureux.(F) Ecl 8:9 Das habe ich alles gesehen, und richtete mein Herz auf alle Werke, die unter der Sonne geschehen. Ein Mensch herrscht zuzeiten über den andern zu seinem Unglück.(D) Ecl 8:9 καὶ σὺν πᾶν τοῦτο εἶδον καὶ ἔδωκα τὴν καρδίαν μου εἰς πᾶν ποίημα ὃ πεποίηται ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον τὰ ὅσα ἐξουσιάσατο ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἐν ἀνθρώπῳ τοῦ κακῶσαι αὐτόν(lxx) Ecl 8:9 All this I have seen, and applied my heart to every work that is done under the sun: There is a time in which one man rules over another to his own hurt.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:10 ============ Ecl 8:10 So then, I have seen the wicked buried, those who used to go in and out from the holy place, and they are soon forgotten in the city where they did thus. This too is futility.(nasb) Ecl 8:10 Vidi impios sepultos, qui etiam cum adhuc viverent in loco sancto erant, et laudabantur in civitate quasi justorum operum. Sed et hoc vanitas est.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:10 También he visto a los impíos ser sepultados, los cuáles entraban y salían del lugar santo, y ser olvidados en la ciudad donde esto hicieron. Esto también es vanidad.(E) Ecclésiaste 8:10 Alors j'ai vu des méchants recevoir la sépulture et entrer dans leur repos, et ceux qui avaient agi avec droiture s'en aller loin du lieu saint et être oubliés dans la ville. C'est encore là une vanité.(F) Ecl 8:10 Und da sah ich Gottlose, die begraben wurden und zur Ruhe kamen; aber es wandelten hinweg von heiliger Stätte und wurden vergessen in der Stadt die, so recht getan hatten. Das ist auch eitel.(D) Ecl 8:10 καὶ τότε εἶδον ἀσεβεῖς εἰς τάφους εἰσαχθέντας καὶ ἐκ τόπου ἁγίου ἐπορεύθησαν καὶ ἐπῃνέθησαν ἐν τῇ πόλει ὅτι οὕτως ἐποίησαν καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης(lxx) Ecl 8:10 Then I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of holiness, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done. This also is vanity.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:11 ============ Ecl 8:11 Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of the sons of men among them are given fully to do evil.(nasb) Ecl 8:11 Etenim quia non profertur cito contra malos sententia, absque timore ullo filii hominum perpetrant mala.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:11 Por cuanto no se ejecuta luego sentencia sobre la mala obra, el corazón de los hijos de los hombres está entregado para hacer el mal.(E) Ecclésiaste 8:11 Parce qu'une sentence contre les mauvaises actions ne s'exécute pas promptement, le coeur des fils de l'homme se remplit en eux du désir de faire le mal.(F) Ecl 8:11 Weil nicht alsbald geschieht ein Urteil über die bösen Werke, dadurch wird das Herz der Menschen voll, Böses zu tun.(D) Ecl 8:11 ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν γινομένη ἀντίρρησις ἀπὸ τῶν ποιούντων τὸ πονηρὸν ταχύ διὰ τοῦτο ἐπληροφορήθη καρδία υἱῶν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐν αὐτοῖς τοῦ ποιῆσαι τὸ πονηρόν(lxx) Ecl 8:11 Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:12 ============ Ecl 8:12 Although a sinner does evil a hundred times and may lengthen his life, still I know that it will be well for those who fear God, who fear Him openly.(nasb) Ecl 8:12 Attamen peccator ex eo quod centies facit malum, et per patientiam sustentatur; ego cognovi quod erit bonum timentibus Deum, qui verentur faciem ejus.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:12 Bien que el pecador haga mal cien veces, y sus [días] le sean prolongados, con todo yo también sé que los que a Dios temen tendrán bien, los que temen ante su presencia;(E) Ecclésiaste 8:12 Cependant, quoique le pécheur fasse cent fois le mal et qu'il y persévère longtemps, je sais aussi que le bonheur est pour ceux qui craignent Dieu, parce qu'ils ont de la crainte devant lui.(F) Ecl 8:12 Ob ein Sünder hundertmal Böses tut und lange lebt, so weiß ich doch, daß es wohl gehen wird denen, die Gott fürchten, die sein Angesicht scheuen.(D) Ecl 8:12 ὃς ἥμαρτεν ἐποίησεν τὸ πονηρὸν ἀπὸ τότε καὶ ἀπὸ μακρότητος αὐτῷ ὅτι καί γε γινώσκω ἐγὼ ὅτι ἔσται ἀγαθὸν τοῖς φοβουμένοις τὸν θεόν ὅπως φοβῶνται ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ(lxx) Ecl 8:12 Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, yet I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:13 ============ Ecl 8:13 But it will not be well for the evil man and he will not lengthen his days like a shadow, because he does not fear God.(nasb) Ecl 8:13 Non sit bonum impio, nec prolongentur dies ejus, sed quasi umbra transeant qui non timent faciem Domini.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:13 Pero no le irá bien al impío, ni le serán prolongados [sus] días, [que son] como sombra; por cuanto no teme ante la presencia de Dios.(E) Ecclésiaste 8:13 Mais le bonheur n'est pas pour le méchant, et il ne prolongera point ses jours, pas plus que l'ombre, parce qu'il n'a pas de la crainte devant Dieu.(F) Ecl 8:13 Aber dem Gottlosen wird es nicht wohl gehen; und wie ein Schatten werden nicht lange leben, die sich vor Gott nicht fürchten.(D) Ecl 8:13 καὶ ἀγαθὸν οὐκ ἔσται τῷ ἀσεβεῖ καὶ οὐ μακρυνεῖ ἡμέρας ἐν σκιᾷ ὃς οὐκ ἔστιν φοβούμενος ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ θεοῦ(lxx) Ecl 8:13 But it will not be well with the wicked; nor will he prolong his days, which are as a shadow, because he does not fear before God.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:14 ============ Ecl 8:14 There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked. On the other hand, there are evil men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility.(nasb) Ecl 8:14 Est et alia vanitas quæ fit super terram: sunt justi quibus mala proveniunt quasi opera egerint impiorum: et sunt impii qui ita securi sunt quasi justorum facta habeant. Sed et hoc vanissimum judico.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:14 Hay una vanidad que se hace sobre la tierra; que hay justos a quienes sucede como si hicieran obras de impíos; y hay impíos a quienes acontece como si hicieran obras de justos. Digo que esto también es vanidad.(E) Ecclésiaste 8:14 Il est une vanité qui a lieu sur la terre: c'est qu'il y a des justes auxquels il arrive selon l'oeuvre des méchants, et des méchants auxquels il arrive selon l'oeuvre des justes. Je dis que c'est encore là une vanité.(F) Ecl 8:14 Es ist eine Eitelkeit, die auf Erden geschieht: es sind Gerechte, denen geht es als hätten sie Werke der Gottlosen, und sind Gottlose, denen geht es als hätten sie Werke der Gerechten. Ich sprach: Das ist auch eitel.(D) Ecl 8:14 ἔστιν ματαιότης ἣ πεποίηται ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ὅτι εἰσὶ δίκαιοι ὅτι φθάνει πρὸς αὐτοὺς ὡς ποίημα τῶν ἀσεβῶν καὶ εἰσὶν ἀσεβεῖς ὅτι φθάνει πρὸς αὐτοὺς ὡς ποίημα τῶν δικαίων εἶπα ὅτι καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης(lxx) Ecl 8:14 There is a vanity which occurs on earth, that there are just men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:15 ============ Ecl 8:15 So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for a man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his toils throughout the days of his life which God has given him under the sun.(nasb) Ecl 8:15 Laudavi igitur lætitiam; quod non esset homini bonum sub sole, nisi quod comederet, et biberet, atque gauderet, et hoc solum secum auferret de labore suo, in diebus vitæ suæ quos dedit ei Deus sub sole.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:15 Por tanto, alabé yo la alegría; pues el hombre no tiene mejor bien debajo del sol, que comer y beber y alegrarse; y que esto le quede de su trabajo los días de su vida que Dios le concede debajo del sol.(E) Ecclésiaste 8:15 J'ai donc loué la joie, parce qu'il n'y a de bonheur pour l'homme sous le soleil qu'à manger et à boire et à se réjouir; c'est là ce qui doit l'accompagner au milieu de son travail, pendant les jours de vie que Dieu lui donne sous le soleil.(F) Ecl 8:15 Darum lobte ich die Freude, daß der Mensch nichts Besseres hat unter der Sonne denn essen und trinken und fröhlich sein; und solches werde ihm von der Arbeit sein Leben lang, das ihm Gott gibt unter der Sonne.(D) Ecl 8:15 καὶ ἐπῄνεσα ἐγὼ σὺν τὴν εὐφροσύνην ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἀγαθὸν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ὅτι εἰ μὴ τοῦ φαγεῖν καὶ τοῦ πιεῖν καὶ τοῦ εὐφρανθῆναι καὶ αὐτὸ συμπροσέσται αὐτῷ ἐν μόχθῳ αὐτοῦ ἡμέρας ζωῆς αὐτοῦ ὅσας ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον(lxx) Ecl 8:15 So I commended enjoyment, because a man has nothing better under the sun than to eat, drink, and be merry; for this will remain with him in his labor all the days of his life which God gives him under the sun.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:16 ============ Ecl 8:16 When I gave my heart to know wisdom and to see the task which has been done on the earth (even though one should never sleep day or night),(nasb) Ecl 8:16 Et apposui cor meum ut scirem sapientiam, et intelligerem distentionem quæ versatur in terra. Est homo qui diebus et noctibus somnum non capit oculis.(vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:16 Yo pues di mi corazón a conocer sabiduría, y a ver la faena que se hace sobre la tierra (porque hay quien ni de noche ni de día ve sueño en sus ojos);(E) Ecclésiaste 8:16 Lorsque j'ai appliqué mon coeur à connaître la sagesse et à considérer les choses qui se passent sur la terre, -car les yeux de l'homme ne goûtent le sommeil ni jour ni nuit,(F) Ecl 8:16 Ich gab mein Herz, zu wissen die Weisheit und zu schauen die Mühe, die auf Erden geschieht, daß auch einer weder Tag noch Nacht den Schlaf sieht mit seinen Augen.(D) Ecl 8:16 ἐν οἷς ἔδωκα τὴν καρδίαν μου τοῦ γνῶναι σοφίαν καὶ τοῦ ἰδεῖν τὸν περισπασμὸν τὸν πεποιημένον ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ὅτι καί γε ἐν ἡμέρᾳ καὶ ἐν νυκτὶ ὕπνον ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἔστιν βλέπων(lxx) Ecl 8:16 When I applied my heart to know wisdom and to see the business that is done on earth, even though one sees no sleep day or night,(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 8:17 ============ Ecl 8:17 and I saw every work of God, I concluded that man cannot discover the work which has been done under the sun. Even though man should seek laboriously, he will not discover; and though the wise man should say, "I know," he cannot discover.(nasb) Ecl 8:17 Et intellexi quod omnium operum Dei nullam possit homo invenire rationem eorum quæ fiunt sub sole; et quanto plus laboraverit ad quærendum, tanto minus inveniat: etiam si dixerit sapiens se nosse, non poterit reperire.](vulgate) Ecclesiastés 8:17 Y he visto todas las obras de Dios, que el hombre no puede alcanzar la obra que debajo del sol se hace; por mucho que se afane el hombre buscándola, no la hallará: aunque diga el sabio que la sabe, no por eso podrá alcanzarla.(E) Ecclésiaste 8:17 j'ai vu toute l'oeuvre de Dieu, j'ai vu que l'homme ne peut pas trouver ce qui se fait sous le soleil; il a beau se fatiguer à chercher, il ne trouve pas; et même si le sage veut connaître, il ne peut pas trouver.(F) Ecl 8:17 Und ich sah alle Werke Gottes, daß ein Mensch das Werk nicht finden kann, das unter der Sonne geschieht; und je mehr der Mensch arbeitet, zu suchen, je weniger er findet. Wenn er gleich spricht: "Ich bin weise und weiß es", so kann er's doch nicht finden.(D) Ecl 8:17 καὶ εἶδον σὺν πάντα τὰ ποιήματα τοῦ θεοῦ ὅτι οὐ δυνήσεται ἄνθρωπος τοῦ εὑρεῖν σὺν τὸ ποίημα τὸ πεποιημένον ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ὅσα ἂν μοχθήσῃ ὁ ἄνθρωπος τοῦ ζητῆσαι καὶ οὐχ εὑρήσει καί γε ὅσα ἂν εἴπῃ ὁ σοφὸς τοῦ γνῶναι οὐ δυνήσεται τοῦ εὑρεῖν(lxx) Ecl 8:17 then I saw all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun.
