Take all the people of war with you and arise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land.(nas) Jos 8:1 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Ἰησοῦν μὴ φοβηθῇς μηδὲ δειλιάσῃς λαβὲ μετὰ σοῦ τοὺς ἄνδρας πάντας τοὺς πολεμιστὰς καὶ ἀναστὰς ἀνάβηθι εἰς Γαι ἰδοὺ δέδωκα εἰς τὰς χεῖράς σου τὸν βασιλέα Γαι καὶ τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ (lxx) Jos 8:1 Dixit autem Dominus ad Josue: Ne timeas, neque formides: tolle tecum omnem multitudinem pugnatorum, et consurgens ascende in oppidum Hai. Ecce tradidi in manu tua regem ejus et populum, urbemque et terram.(vulgate) 1 ׃8 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֤ה אֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ אַל־תִּירָ֣א וְאַל־תֵּחָ֔ת קַ֣ח עִמְּךָ֗ אֵ֚ת כָּל־עַ֣ם הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְק֖וּם עֲלֵ֣ה הָעָ֑י רְאֵ֣ה ׀ נָתַ֣תִּי בְיָדְךָ֗ אֶת־מֶ֤לֶךְ הָעַי֙ וְאֶת־עַמּ֔וֹ וְאֶת־עִיר֖וֹ וְאֶת־אַרְצֽוֹ׃ Joshua Jos 8:1 Und der HERR sprach zu Josua: Fürchte dich nicht und zage nicht! Nimm mit dir alles Kriegsvolk und mache dich auf und zieh hinauf gen Ai! Siehe da, ich habe den König zu Ai samt seinem Volk, seiner Stadt, und seinem Lande in deine Hände gegeben.(dhs) Jos 8:1 Now the Lord said to Joshua: "Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:2 ============ Jos 8:2 You shall do to Ai and its king just as you did to Jericho and its king; you shall take only its spoil and its cattle as plunder for yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it."(nas) Jos 8:2 καὶ ποιήσεις τὴν Γαι ὃν τρόπον ἐποίησας τὴν Ιεριχω καὶ τὸν βασιλέα αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν προνομὴν τῶν κτηνῶν προνομεύσεις σεαυτῷ κατάστησον δὲ σεαυτῷ ἔνεδρα τῇ πόλει εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω (lxx) Jos 8:2 Faciesque urbi Hai, et regi ejus, sicut fecisti Jericho, et regi illius: prædam vero, et omnia animantia diripietis vobis: pone insidias urbi post eam.(vulgate) 2 ׃8 וְעָשִׂ֨יתָ לָעַ֜י וּלְמַלְכָּ֗הּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשִׂ֤יתָ לִּֽירִיחוֹ֙ וּלְמַלְכָּ֔הּ רַק־שְׁלָלָ֥הּ וּבְהֶמְתָּ֖הּ תָּבֹ֣זּוּ לָכֶ֑ם שִׂים־לְךָ֥ אֹרֵ֛ב לָעִ֖יר מֵאַחֲרֶֽיהָ׃ Joshua Jos 8:2 Du sollst mit Ai und seinem König tun, wie du mit Jericho und seinem König getan hast, nur daß ihr ihren Raub und ihr Vieh unter euch teilen sollt. Aber stelle einen Hinterhalt hinter der Stadt.(dhs) Jos 8:2 And you shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only its spoil and its cattle you shall take as booty for yourselves. Lay an ambush for the city behind it."(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:3 ============ Jos 8:3 So Joshua rose with all the people of war to go up to Ai; and Joshua chose 30,000 men, valiant warriors, and sent them out at night.(nas) Jos 8:3 καὶ ἀνέστη Ἰησοῦς καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ὁ πολεμιστὴς ὥστε ἀναβῆναι εἰς Γαι ἐπέλεξεν δὲ Ἰησοῦς τριάκοντα χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν δυνατοὺς ἐν ἰσχύι καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς νυκτός (lxx) Jos 8:3 Surrexitque Josue, et omnis exercitus bellatorum cum eo, ut ascenderent in Hai: et electa triginta millia virorum fortium misit nocte,(vulgate) 3 ׃8 וַיָּ֧קָם יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ וְכָל־עַ֥ם הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה לַעֲל֣וֹת הָעָ֑י וַיִּבְחַ֣ר יְ֠הוֹשֻׁעַ שְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים אֶ֤לֶף אִישׁ֙ גִּבּוֹרֵ֣י הַחַ֔יִל וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֖ם לָֽיְלָה׃ Joshua Jos 8:3 Da machte sich Josua auf und alles Kriegsvolk, hinaufzuziehen gen Ai. Und Josua erwählte dreißigtausend streitbare Männer und sandte sie aus bei der Nacht(dhs) Jos 8:3 So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai; and Joshua chose thirty thousand mighty men of valor and sent them away by night.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:4 ============ Jos 8:4 He commanded them, saying, "See, you are going to ambush the city from behind it. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.(nas) Jos 8:4 καὶ ἐνετείλατο αὐτοῖς λέγων ὑμεῖς ἐνεδρεύσατε ὀπίσω τῆς πόλεως μὴ μακρὰν γίνεσθε ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἔσεσθε πάντες ἕτοιμοι (lxx) Jos 8:4 præcepitque eis, dicens: Ponite insidias post civitatem, nec longius recedatis: et eritis omnes parati.(vulgate) 4 ׃8 וַיְצַ֨ו אֹתָ֜ם לֵאמֹ֗ר רְ֠אוּ אַתֶּ֞ם אֹרְבִ֤ים לָעִיר֙ מֵאַחֲרֵ֣י הָעִ֔יר אַל־תַּרְחִ֥יקוּ מִן־הָעִ֖יר מְאֹ֑ד וִהְיִיתֶ֥ם כֻּלְּכֶ֖ם נְכֹנִֽים׃ Joshua Jos 8:4 und gebot ihnen und sprach: Seht zu, ihr sollt der Hinterhalt sein hinter der Stadt; macht euch aber nicht allzu ferne von der Stadt und seid allesamt bereit!(dhs) Jos 8:4 And he commanded them, saying: "Behold, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:5 ============ Jos 8:5 Then I and all the people who are with me will approach the city. And when they come out to meet us as at the first, we will flee before them.(nas) Jos 8:5 καὶ ἐγὼ καὶ πάντες οἱ μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ προσάξομεν πρὸς τὴν πόλιν καὶ ἔσται ὡς ἂν ἐξέλθωσιν οἱ κατοικοῦντες Γαι εἰς συνάντησιν ἡμῖν καθάπερ καὶ πρῴην καὶ φευξόμεθα ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν (lxx) Jos 8:5 Ego autem, et reliqua multitudo, quæ mecum est, accedemus ex adverso contra urbem. Cumque exierint contra nos, sicut ante fecimus, fugiemus, et terga vertemus,(vulgate) 5 ׃8 וַאֲנִ֗י וְכָל־הָעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתִּ֔י נִקְרַ֖ב אֶל־הָעִ֑יר וְהָיָ֗ה כִּֽי־יֵצְא֤וּ לִקְרָאתֵ֙נוּ֙ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּרִֽאשֹׁנָ֔ה וְנַ֖סְנוּ לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃ Joshua Jos 8:5 Ich aber und das Volk, das mit mir ist, wollen uns zu der Stadt machen. Und wenn sie uns entgegen herausfahren wie das erstemal, so wollen wir vor ihnen fliehen,(dhs) Jos 8:5 Then I and all the people who are with me will approach the city; and it will come about, when they come out against us as at the first, that we shall flee before them.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:6 ============ Jos 8:6 They will come out after us until we have drawn them away from the city, for they will say, 'They are fleeing before us as at the first.' So we will flee before them.(nas) Jos 8:6 καὶ ὡς ἂν ἐξέλθωσιν ὀπίσω ἡμῶν ἀποσπάσομεν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἐροῦσιν φεύγουσιν οὗτοι ἀπὸ προσώπου ἡμῶν ὃν τρόπον καὶ ἔμπροσθεν (lxx) Jos 8:6 donec persequentes ab urbe longius protrahantur: putabunt enim nos fugere sicut prius.(vulgate) 6 ׃8 וְיָצְא֣וּ אַחֲרֵ֗ינוּ עַ֣ד הַתִּיקֵ֤נוּ אוֹתָם֙ מִן־הָעִ֔יר כִּ֣י יֹֽאמְר֔וּ נָסִ֣ים לְפָנֵ֔ינוּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר בָּרִֽאשֹׁנָ֑ה וְנַ֖סְנוּ לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃ Joshua Jos 8:6 daß sie uns nachfolgen heraus, bis daß wir sie von der Stadt hinwegreißen. Denn sie werden gedenken, wir fliehen vor ihnen wie das erstemal. Und wenn wir vor ihnen fliehen,(dhs) Jos 8:6 For they will come out after us till we have drawn them from the city, for they will say, 'They are fleeing before us as at the first.' Therefore we will flee before them.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:7 ============ Jos 8:7 And you shall rise from your ambush and take possession of the city, for the Lord your God will deliver it into your hand.(nas) Jos 8:7 ὑμεῖς δὲ ἐξαναστήσεσθε ἐκ τῆς ἐνέδρας καὶ πορεύσεσθε εἰς τὴν πόλιν (lxx) Jos 8:7 Nobis ergo fugientibus, et illis persequentibus, consurgetis de insidiis, et vastabitis civitatem: tradetque eam Dominus Deus vester in manus vestras.(vulgate) 7 ׃8 וְאַתֶּ֗ם תָּקֻ֙מוּ֙ מֵהָ֣אוֹרֵ֔ב וְהוֹרַשְׁתֶּ֖ם אֶת־הָעִ֑יר וּנְתָנָ֛הּ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֖ם בְּיֶדְכֶֽם׃ Joshua Jos 8:7 sollt ihr euch aufmachen aus dem Hinterhalt und die Stadt einnehmen; denn der HERR, euer Gott, wird sie in eure Hände geben.(dhs) Jos 8:7 Then you shall rise from the ambush and seize the city, for the Lord your God will deliver it into your hand.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:8 ============ Jos 8:8 Then it will be when you have seized the city, that you shall set the city on fire. You shall do it according to the word of the Lord. See, I have commanded you."(nas) Jos 8:8 κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ποιήσετε ἰδοὺ ἐντέταλμαι ὑμῖν (lxx) Jos 8:8 Cumque ceperitis, succendite eam, et sic omnia facietis, ut jussi.~(vulgate) 8 ׃8 וְהָיָ֞ה כְּתָפְשְׂכֶ֣ם אֶת־הָעִ֗יר תַּצִּ֤יתוּ אֶת־הָעִיר֙ בָּאֵ֔שׁ כִּדְבַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ רְא֖וּ צִוִּ֥יתִי אֶתְכֶֽם׃ Joshua Jos 8:8 Wenn ihr aber die Stadt eingenommen habt, so steckt sie an mit Feuer und tut nach dem Wort des HERRN. Seht, ich habe es euch geboten.(dhs) Jos 8:8 And it will be, when you have taken the city, that you shall set the city on fire. According to the commandment of the Lord you shall do. See, I have commanded you."(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:9 ============ Jos 8:9 So Joshua sent them away, and they went to the place of ambush and remained between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua spent that night among the people.(nas) Jos 8:9 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν εἰς τὴν ἐνέδραν καὶ ἐνεκάθισαν ἀνὰ μέσον Βαιθηλ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Γαι ἀπὸ θαλάσσης τῆς Γαι (lxx) Jos 8:9 Dimisitque eos, et perrexerunt ad locum insidiarum, sederuntque inter Bethel et Hai, ad occidentalem plagam urbis Hai: Josue autem nocte illa in medio mansit populi,(vulgate) 9 ׃8 וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֣ם יְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַ וַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙ אֶל־הַמַּאְרָ֔ב וַיֵּשְׁב֗וּ בֵּ֧ין בֵּֽית־אֵ֛ל וּבֵ֥ין הָעַ֖י מִיָּ֣ם לָעָ֑י וַיָּ֧לֶן יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ בַּלַּ֥יְלָה הַה֖וּא בְּת֥וֹךְ הָעָֽם׃ Joshua Jos 8:9 Also sandte sie Josua hin; und sie gingen hin auf den Hinterhalt und hielten zwischen Beth-El und Ai abendwärts von Ai. Josua aber blieb die Nacht unter dem Volk(dhs) Jos 8:9 Joshua therefore sent them out; and they went to lie in ambush, and stayed between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua lodged that night among the people.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:10 ============ Jos 8:10 Now Joshua rose early in the morning and mustered the people, and he went up with the elders of Israel before the people to Ai.(nas) Jos 8:10 καὶ ὀρθρίσας Ἰησοῦς τὸ πρωὶ ἐπεσκέψατο τὸν λαόν καὶ ἀνέβησαν αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ λαοῦ ἐπὶ Γαι (lxx) Jos 8:10 surgensque diluculo recensuit socios, et ascendit cum senioribus in fronte exercitus, vallatus auxilio pugnatorum.(vulgate) 10 ׃8 וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֤ם יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ בַּבֹּ֔קֶר וַיִּפְקֹ֖ד אֶת־הָעָ֑ם וַיַּ֨עַל ה֜וּא וְזִקְנֵ֧י יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל לִפְנֵ֥י הָעָ֖ם הָעָֽי׃ Joshua Jos 8:10 und machte sich des Morgens früh auf und ordnete das Volk und zog hinauf mit den Ältesten Israels vor dem Volk her gen Ai.(dhs) Jos 8:10 Then Joshua rose up early in the morning and mustered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:11 ============ Jos 8:11 Then all the people of war who were with him went up and drew near and arrived in front of the city, and camped on the north side of Ai. Now there was a valley between him and Ai.(nas) Jos 8:11 καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ὁ πολεμιστὴς μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἀνέβησαν καὶ πορευόμενοι ἦλθον ἐξ ἐναντίας τῆς πόλεως ἀπ᾽ ἀνατολῶν (lxx) Jos 8:11 Cumque venissent et ascendissent ex adverso civitatis, steterunt ad septentrionalem urbis plagam, inter quam et eos erat vallis media.(vulgate) 11 ׃8 וְכָל־הָעָ֨ם הַמִּלְחָמָ֜ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתּ֗וֹ עָלוּ֙ וַֽיִּגְּשׁ֔וּ וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ נֶ֣גֶד הָעִ֑יר וַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙ מִצְּפ֣וֹן לָעַ֔י וְהַגַּ֖י *בינו **בֵּינָ֥יו וּבֵין־הָעָֽי׃ Joshua Jos 8:11 Und alles Kriegsvolk, das bei ihm war, zog hinauf, und sie traten herzu und kamen gegen die Stadt und lagerten sich gegen Mitternacht vor Ai, daß nur ein Tal war zwischen ihnen und Ai.(dhs) Jos 8:11 And all the people of war who were with him went up and drew near; and they came before the city and camped on the north side of Ai. Now a valley lay between them and Ai.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:12 ============ Jos 8:12 And he took about 5,000 men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.(nas) Jos 8:12 καὶ τὰ ἔνεδρα τῆς πόλεως ἀπὸ θαλάσσης (lxx) Jos 8:12 Quinque autem millia viros elegerat, et posuerat in insidiis inter Bethel et Hai ex occidentali parte ejusdem civitatis:(vulgate) 12 ׃8 וַיִּקַּ֕ח כַּחֲמֵ֥שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֖ים אִ֑ישׁ וַיָּ֨שֶׂם אוֹתָ֜ם אֹרֵ֗ב בֵּ֧ין בֵּֽית־אֵ֛ל וּבֵ֥ין הָעַ֖י מִיָּ֥ם לָעִֽיר׃ Joshua Jos 8:12 Er hatte aber bei fünftausend Mann genommen und auf den Hinterhalt gestellt zwischen Beth-El und Ai abendwärts von der Stadt.(dhs) Jos 8:12 So he took about five thousand men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:13 ============ Jos 8:13 So they stationed the people, all the army that was on the north side of the city, and its rear guard on the west side of the city, and Joshua spent that night in the midst of the valley.(nas) Jos 8:13 missing in LXX (lxx) Jos 8:13 omnis vero reliquus exercitus ad aquilonem aciem dirigebat, ita ut novissimi illius multitudinis occidentalem plagam urbis attingerent. Abiit ergo Josue nocte illa, et stetit in vallis medio.~(vulgate) 13 ׃8 וַיָּשִׂ֨ימוּ הָעָ֜ם אֶת־כָּל־הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗ה אֲשֶׁר֙ מִצְּפ֣וֹן לָעִ֔יר וְאֶת־עֲקֵב֖וֹ מִיָּ֣ם לָעִ֑יר וַיֵּ֧לֶךְ יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ בַּלַּ֥יְלָה הַה֖וּא בְּת֥וֹךְ הָעֵֽמֶק׃ Joshua Jos 8:13 Und sie stellten das Volk des ganzen Lagers, das gegen Mitternacht vor der Stadt war, also, daß sein letztes reichte bis gegen den Abend von der Stadt. Und Josua ging hin in derselben Nacht mitten in das Tal.(dhs) Jos 8:13 And when they had set the people, all the army that was on the north of the city, and its rear guard on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:14 ============ Jos 8:14 It came about when the king of Ai saw it, that the men of the city hurried and rose up early and went out to meet Israel in battle, he and all his people at the appointed place before the desert plain. But he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.(nas) Jos 8:14 καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἶδεν βασιλεὺς Γαι ἔσπευσεν καὶ ἐξῆλθεν εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτοῖς ἐπ᾽ εὐθείας εἰς τὸν πόλεμον αὐτὸς καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ὁ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ καὶ αὐτὸς οὐκ ᾔδει ὅτι ἔνεδρα αὐτῷ ἐστιν ὀπίσω τῆς πόλεως (lxx) Jos 8:14 Quod cum vidisset rex Hai, festinavit mane, et egressus est cum omni exercitu civitatis, direxitque aciem contra desertum, ignorans quod post tergum laterent insidiæ.(vulgate) 14 ׃8 וַיְהִ֞י כִּרְא֣וֹת מֶֽלֶךְ־הָעַ֗י וַֽיְמַהֲר֡וּ וַיַּשְׁכִּ֡ימוּ וַיֵּצְא֣וּ אַנְשֵֽׁי־הָעִ֣יר לִקְרַֽאת־יִ֠שְׂרָאֵל לַֽמִּלְחָמָ֞ה ה֧וּא וְכָל־עַמּ֛וֹ לַמּוֹעֵ֖ד לִפְנֵ֣י הָֽעֲרָבָ֑ה וְהוּא֙ לֹ֣א יָדַ֔ע כִּֽי־אֹרֵ֥ב ל֖וֹ מֵאַחֲרֵ֥י הָעִֽיר׃ Joshua Jos 8:14 Als aber der König zu Ai das sah, eilten die Männer der Stadt und machten sich früh auf und zogen heraus, Israel zu begegnen im Streit, er mit allem seinem Volk, an einem bestimmten Ort vor dem Gefilde. Denn er wußte nicht, daß ihm ein Hinterhalt gelegt war hinter der Stadt.(dhs) Jos 8:14 Now it happened, when the king of Ai saw it, that the men of the city hurried and rose early and went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at an appointed place before the plain. But he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:15 ============ Jos 8:15 Joshua and all Israel pretended to be beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.(nas) Jos 8:15 καὶ εἶδεν καὶ ἀνεχώρησεν Ἰησοῦς καὶ Ισραηλ ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν (lxx) Jos 8:15 Josue vero et omnis Israël cesserunt loco, simulantes metum, et fugientes per solitudinis viam.(vulgate) 15 ׃8 וַיִּנָּֽ[m]גְע֛וּ יְהוֹשֻׁ֥עַ וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לִפְנֵיהֶ֑ם וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ דֶּ֥רֶךְ הַמִּדְבָּֽר׃ Joshua Jos 8:15 Josua aber und ganz Israel stellten sich, als würden sie geschlagen vor ihnen und flohen auf dem Weg zur Wüste.(dhs) Jos 8:15 And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 8:16 ============ Jos 8:16 And all the people who were in the city were called together to pursue them, and they pursued Joshua and were drawn away from the city.(nas) Jos 8:16 καὶ κατεδίωξαν ὀπίσω τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ καὶ αὐτοὶ ἀπέστησαν ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεως (lxx) Jos 8:16 At illi vociferantes pariter, et se mutuo cohortantes, persecuti sunt eos. Cumque recessissent a civitate,(vulgate) 16 ׃8 וַיִּזָּעֲק֗וּ כָּל־הָעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר *בעיר **בָּעַ֔י לִרְדֹּ֖ף אַחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם וַֽיִּרְדְּפוּ֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ וַיִּנָּתְק֖וּ מִן־הָעִֽיר׃ Joshua Jos 8:16 Da ward das ganze Volk in der Stadt zuhauf gerufen, daß es ihnen sollte nachjagen.(dhs) Jos 8:16 So all the people who were in Ai were called together to pursue them. the field, in the wilderness where they pursued them, and when they all had fallen by the edge of the sword until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned to Ai and struck it with the edge
