Today's Date: ======= Joshua 9:1 ============ Jos 9:1 Now it came about when all the kings who were beyond the Jordan, in the hill country and in the lowland and on all the coast of the Great Sea toward Lebanon, the Hittite and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, heard of it,(nas) Jos 9:1 ὡς δ᾽ ἤκουσαν οἱ βασιλεῖς τῶν Αμορραίων οἱ ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ Ιορδάνου οἱ ἐν τῇ ὀρεινῇ καὶ οἱ ἐν τῇ πεδινῇ καὶ οἱ ἐν πάσῃ τῇ παραλίᾳ τῆς θαλάσσης τῆς μεγάλης καὶ οἱ πρὸς τῷ Ἀντιλιβάνῳ καὶ οἱ Χετταῖοι καὶ οἱ Χαναναῖοι καὶ οἱ Φερεζαῖοι καὶ οἱ Ευαῖοι καὶ οἱ Αμορραῖοι καὶ οἱ Γεργεσαῖοι καὶ οἱ Ιεβουσαῖοι (lxx) Jos 9:1 Quibus auditis, cuncti reges trans Jordanem, qui versabantur in montanis et campestribus, in maritimis ac littore magni maris, hi quoque qui habitabant juxta Libanum, Hethæus et Amorrhæus, Chananæus, Pherezæus, et Hevæus, et Jebusæus,(vulgate) 1 ׃9 וַיְהִ֣י כִשְׁמֹ֣עַ כָּֽל־הַמְּלָכִ֡ים אֲשֶׁר֩ בְּעֵ֨בֶר הַיַּרְדֵּ֜ן בָּהָ֣ר וּבַשְּׁפֵלָ֗ה וּבְכֹל֙ ח֚וֹף הַיָּ֣ם הַגָּד֔וֹל אֶל־מ֖וּל הַלְּבָנ֑וֹן הַֽחִתִּי֙ וְהָ֣אֱמֹרִ֔י הַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ הַפְּרִזִּ֔י הַחִוִּ֖י וְהַיְבוּסִֽי׃ Joshua Jos 9:1 Da nun das hörten alle Könige, die jenseit des Jordans waren auf den Gebirgen und in den Gründen und an allen Anfurten des großen Meers, auch die neben dem Berge Libanon waren, nämlich die Hethiter, Amoriter, Kanaaniter, Pheresiter, Heviter und Jebusiter,(dhs) Jos 9:1 And it came to pass when all the kings who were on this side of the Jordan, in the hills and in the lowland and in all the coasts of the Great Sea toward Lebanon--the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite--heard about it,(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:2 ============ Jos 9:2 that they gathered themselves together with one accord to fight with Joshua and with Israel.(nas) Jos 9:2 συνήλθοσαν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ ἐκπολεμῆσαι Ἰησοῦν καὶ Ισραηλ ἅμα πάντες Jos 9:2 congregati sunt pariter, ut pugnarent contra Josue et Israël uno animo, eademque sententia.~(vulgate) 2 ׃9 וַיִּֽתְקַבְּצ֣וּ יַחְדָּ֔ו לְהִלָּחֵ֥ם עִם־יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ וְעִם־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל פֶּ֖ה אֶחָֽד׃ פ Joshua Jos 9:2 sammelten sie sich einträchtig zuhauf, daß sie wider Josua und wider Israel stritten.(dhs) Jos 9:2 that they gathered together to fight with Joshua and Israel with one accord.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:3 ============ Jos 9:3 When the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,(nas) Jos 9:3 καὶ οἱ κατοικοῦντες Γαβαων ἤκουσαν πάντα ὅσα ἐποίησεν κύριος τῇ Ιεριχω καὶ τῇ Γαι (lxx) Jos 9:3 At hi qui habitabant in Gabaon, audientes cuncta quæ fecerat Josue Jericho, et Hai,(vulgate) 3 ׃9 וְיֹשְׁבֵ֨י גִבְע֜וֹן שָׁמְע֗וּ אֵת֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֧ה יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ לִֽירִיח֖וֹ וְלָעָֽי׃ Joshua Jos 9:3 Aber die Bürger zu Gibeon, da sie hörten, was Josua mit Jericho und Ai gemacht hatte, erdachten sie eine List,(dhs) Jos 9:3 But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai,(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:4 ============ Jos 9:4 they also acted craftily and set out as envoys, and took worn-out sacks on their donkeys, and wineskins worn-out and torn and mended,(nas) Jos 9:4 καὶ ἐποίησαν καί γε αὐτοὶ μετὰ πανουργίας καὶ ἐλθόντες ἐπεσιτίσαντο καὶ ἡτοιμάσαντο καὶ λαβόντες σάκκους παλαιοὺς ἐπὶ τῶν ὄνων αὐτῶν καὶ ἀσκοὺς οἴνου παλαιοὺς καὶ κατερρωγότας ἀποδεδεμένους (lxx) Jos 9:4 et callide cogitantes, tulerunt sibi cibaria, saccos veteres asinis imponentes, et utres vinarios scissos atque consutos,(vulgate) 4 ׃9 וַיַּעֲשׂ֤וּ גַם־הֵ֙מָּה֙ בְּעָרְמָ֔ה וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ וַיִּצְטַיָּ֑רוּ וַיִּקְח֞וּ שַׂקִּ֤ים בָּלִים֙ לַחֲמ֣וֹרֵיהֶ֔ם וְנֹאד֥וֹת יַ֙יִן֙ בָּלִ֔ים וּמְבֻקָּעִ֖ים וּמְצֹרָרִֽים׃ Joshua Jos 9:4 gingen hin und versahen sich mit Speise und nahmen alte Säcke auf ihre Esel.(dhs) Jos 9:4 they worked craftily, and went and pretended to be ambassadors. And they took old sacks on their donkeys, old wineskins torn and mended,(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:5 ============ Jos 9:5 and worn-out and patched sandals on their feet, and worn-out clothes on themselves; and all the bread of their provision was dry and had become crumbled.(nas) Jos 9:5 καὶ τὰ κοῖλα τῶν ὑποδημάτων αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ σανδάλια αὐτῶν παλαιὰ καὶ καταπεπελματωμένα ἐν τοῖς ποσὶν αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτῶν πεπαλαιωμένα ἐπάνω αὐτῶν καὶ ὁ ἄρτος αὐτῶν τοῦ ἐπισιτισμοῦ ξηρὸς καὶ εὐρωτιῶν καὶ βεβρωμένος (lxx) Jos 9:5 calceamentaque perantiqua quæ ad indicium vetustatis pittaciis consuta erant, induti veteribus vestimentis: panes quoque, quos portabant ob viaticum, duri erant, et in frustra comminuti:(vulgate) 5 ׃9 וּנְעָל֨וֹת בָּל֤וֹת וּמְטֻלָּאוֹת֙ בְּרַגְלֵיהֶ֔ם וּשְׂלָמ֥וֹת בָּל֖וֹת עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וְכֹל֙ לֶ֣חֶם צֵידָ֔ם יָבֵ֖שׁ הָיָ֥ה נִקֻּדִֽים׃ Joshua Jos 9:5 und alte, zerrissene, geflickte Weinschläuche und alte, geflickte Schuhe an ihre Füße und zogen alte Kleider an, und alles Brot, das sie nahmen, war hart und schimmlig.(dhs) Jos 9:5 old and patched sandals on their feet, and old garments on themselves; and all the bread of their provision was dry and moldy.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:6 ============ Jos 9:6 They went to Joshua to the camp at Gilgal and said to him and to the men of Israel, "We have come from a far country; now therefore, make a covenant with us."(nas) Jos 9:6 καὶ ἤλθοσαν πρὸς Ἰησοῦν εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν Ισραηλ εἰς Γαλγαλα καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς Ἰησοῦν καὶ Ισραηλ ἐκ γῆς μακρόθεν ἥκαμεν καὶ νῦν διάθεσθε ἡμῖν διαθήκην (lxx) Jos 9:6 perrexeruntque ad Josue, qui tunc morabatur in castris Galgalæ, et dixerunt ei, atque simul omni Israëli: De terra longinqua venimus, pacem vobiscum facere cupientes. Responderuntque viri Israël ad eos, atque dixerunt:(vulgate) 6 ׃9 וַיֵּלְכ֧וּ אֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ אֶל־הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה הַגִּלְגָּ֑ל וַיֹּאמְר֨וּ אֵלָ֜יו וְאֶל־אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל מֵאֶ֤רֶץ רְחוֹקָה֙ בָּ֔אנוּ וְעַתָּ֖ה כִּרְתוּ־לָ֥נוּ בְרִֽית׃ Joshua Jos 9:6 Und gingen zu Josua ins Lager gen Gilgal und sprachen zu ihm und zum ganzen Israel: Wir kommen aus fernen Landen; so macht einen Bund mit uns.(dhs) Jos 9:6 And they went to Joshua, to the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel, "We have come from a far country; now therefore, make a covenant with us."(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:7 ============ Jos 9:7 The men of Israel said to the Hivites, "Perhaps you are living within our land; how then shall we make a covenant with you?"(nas) Jos 9:7 καὶ εἶπαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πρὸς τὸν Χορραῖον ὅρα μὴ ἐν ἐμοὶ κατοικεῖς καὶ πῶς σοι διαθῶμαι διαθήκην (lxx) Jos 9:7 Ne forte in terra, quæ nobis sorte debetur, habitetis, et non possimus fœdus inire vobiscum.(vulgate) 7 ׃9 *ויאמרו **וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אִֽישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֶל־הַחִוִּ֑י אוּלַ֗י בְּקִרְבִּי֙ אַתָּ֣ה יוֹשֵׁ֔ב וְאֵ֖יךְ *אכרות־**אֶֽכְרָת־לְךָ֥ בְרִֽית׃ Joshua Jos 9:7 Da sprach das ganze Israel zu dem Heviter: Vielleicht möchtest du unter uns wohnend werden; wie könnte ich dann einen Bund mit dir machen?(dhs) Jos 9:7 Then the men of Israel said to the Hivites, "Perhaps you dwell among us; so how can we make a covenant with you?"(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:8 ============ Jos 9:8 But they said to Joshua, "We are your servants." Then Joshua said to them, "Who are you and where do you come from?"(nas) Jos 9:8 καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς Ἰησοῦν οἰκέται σού ἐσμεν καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς Ἰησοῦς πόθεν ἐστὲ καὶ πόθεν παραγεγόνατε (lxx) Jos 9:8 At illi ad Josue: Servi, inquiunt, tui sumus. Quibus Josue ait: Quinam estis vos? et unde venistis?(vulgate) 8 ׃9 וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ אֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ עֲבָדֶ֣יךָ אֲנָ֑חְנוּ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֧ם יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ מִ֥י אַתֶּ֖ם וּמֵאַ֥יִן תָּבֹֽאוּ׃ Joshua Jos 9:8 Sie aber sprachen zu Josua: Wir sind deine Knechte. Josua sprach zu ihnen: Was seid ihr, und woher kommt ihr?(dhs) Jos 9:8 But they said to Joshua, "We are your servants." And Joshua said to them, "Who are you, and where do you come from?"(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:9 ============ Jos 9:9 They said to him, "Your servants have come from a very far country because of the fame of the Lord your God; for we have heard the report of Him and all that He did in Egypt,(nas) Jos 9:9 καὶ εἶπαν ἐκ γῆς μακρόθεν σφόδρα ἥκασιν οἱ παῖδές σου ἐν ὀνόματι κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ σου ἀκηκόαμεν γὰρ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ καὶ ὅσα ἐποίησεν ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ (lxx) Jos 9:9 Responderunt: De terra longinqua valde venerunt servi tui in nomine Domini Dei tui. Audivimus enim famam potentiæ ejus, cuncta quæ fecit in Ægypto,(vulgate) 9 ׃9 וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֗יו מֵאֶ֨רֶץ רְחוֹקָ֤ה מְאֹד֙ בָּ֣אוּ עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ לְשֵׁ֖ם יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ כִּֽי־שָׁמַ֣עְנוּ שָׁמְע֔וֹ וְאֵ֛ת כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָׂ֖ה בְּמִצְרָֽיִם׃ Joshua Jos 9:9 Sie sprachen: Deine Knechte sind aus sehr fernen Landen gekommen um des Namens willen des HERRN, deines Gottes; denn wir haben sein Gerücht gehört und alles, was er in Ägypten getan hat,(dhs) Jos 9:9 So they said to him: "From a very far country your servants have come, because of the name of the Lord your God; for we have heard of His fame, and all that He did in Egypt,(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:10 ============ Jos 9:10 and all that He did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon and to Og king of Bashan who was at Ashtaroth.(nas) Jos 9:10 καὶ ὅσα ἐποίησεν τοῖς βασιλεῦσιν τῶν Αμορραίων οἳ ἦσαν πέραν τοῦ Ιορδάνου τῷ Σηων βασιλεῖ Εσεβων καὶ τῷ Ωγ βασιλεῖ τῆς Βασαν ὃς κατῴκει ἐν Ασταρωθ καὶ ἐν Εδραϊν (lxx) Jos 9:10 et duobus regibus Amorrhæorum qui fuerunt trans Jordanem, Sehon regi Hesebon, et Og regi Basan, qui erat in Astaroth:(vulgate) 10 ׃9 וְאֵ֣ת ׀ כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֗ה לִשְׁנֵי֙ מַלְכֵ֣י הָאֱמֹרִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּעֵ֣בֶר הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן לְסִיחוֹן֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ חֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן וּלְע֥וֹג מֶֽלֶךְ־הַבָּשָׁ֖ן אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּעַשְׁתָּרֽוֹת׃ Joshua Jos 9:10 und alles, was er den zwei Königen der Amoriter jenseit des Jordans getan hat: Sihon, dem König zu Hesbon, und Og, dem König von Basan, der zu Astharoth wohnte.(dhs) Jos 9:10 and all that He did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan--to Sihon king of Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:11 ============ Jos 9:11 So our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, 'Take provisions in your hand for the journey, and go to meet them and say to them, "We are your servants; now then, make a covenant with us."'(nas) Jos 9:11 καὶ ἀκούσαντες εἶπαν πρὸς ἡμᾶς οἱ πρεσβύτεροι ἡμῶν καὶ πάντες οἱ κατοικοῦντες τὴν γῆν ἡμῶν λέγοντες λάβετε ἑαυτοῖς ἐπισιτισμὸν εἰς τὴν ὁδὸν καὶ πορεύθητε εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτῶν καὶ ἐρεῖτε πρὸς αὐτούς οἰκέται σού ἐσμεν καὶ νῦν διάθεσθε ἡμῖν διαθήκην (lxx) Jos 9:11 dixeruntque nobis seniores, et omnes habitatores terræ nostræ: Tollite in manibus cibaria ob longissimam viam, et occurrite eis, et dicite: Servi vestri sumus: fœdus inite nobiscum.(vulgate) 11 ׃9 וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלֵ֡ינוּ זְֽקֵינֵינוּ֩ וְכָל־יֹשְׁבֵ֨י אַרְצֵ֜נוּ לֵאמֹ֗ר קְח֨וּ בְיֶדְכֶ֤ם צֵידָה֙ לַדֶּ֔רֶךְ וּלְכ֖וּ לִקְרָאתָ֑ם וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֤ם אֲלֵיהֶם֙ עַבְדֵיכֶ֣ם אֲנַ֔חְנוּ וְעַתָּ֖ה כִּרְתוּ־לָ֥נוּ בְרִֽית׃ Joshua Jos 9:11 Darum sprachen unsere Ältesten und alle Einwohner unsers Landes: Nehmt Speise mit euch auf die Reise und geht hin, ihnen entgegen, und sprecht zu ihnen: Wir sind eure Knechte. So macht nun einen Bund mit uns.(dhs) Jos 9:11 Therefore our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, 'Take provisions with you for the journey, and go to meet them, and say to them, "We are your servants; now therefore, make a covenant with us." '(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:12 ============ Jos 9:12 This our bread was warm when we took it for our provisions out of our houses on the day that we left to come to you; but now behold, it is dry and has become crumbled.(nas) Jos 9:12 οὗτοι οἱ ἄρτοι θερμοὺς ἐφωδιάσθημεν αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ᾗ ἐξήλθομεν παραγενέσθαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς νῦν δὲ ἐξηράνθησαν καὶ γεγόνασιν βεβρωμένοι (lxx) Jos 9:12 En panes quando egressi sumus de domibus nostris, ut veniremus ad vos, calidos sumpsimus; nunc sicci facti sunt, et vetustate nimia comminuti.(vulgate) 12 ׃9 זֶ֣ה ׀ לַחְמֵ֗נוּ חָ֞ם הִצְטַיַּ֤דְנוּ אֹתוֹ֙ מִבָּ֣תֵּ֔ינוּ בְּי֥וֹם צֵאתֵ֖נוּ לָלֶ֣כֶת אֲלֵיכֶ֑ם וְעַתָּה֙ הִנֵּ֣ה יָבֵ֔שׁ וְהָיָ֖ה נִקֻּדִֽים׃ Joshua Jos 9:12 Dies unser Brot, das wir aus unsern Häusern zu unsrer Speise nahmen, war noch frisch, da wir auszogen zu euch, nun aber, siehe, es ist hart und schimmlig;(dhs) Jos 9:12 This bread of ours we took hot for our provision from our houses on the day we departed to come to you. But now look, it is dry and moldy.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:13 ============ Jos 9:13 These wineskins which we filled were new, and behold, they are torn; and these our clothes and our sandals are worn out because of the very long journey."(nas) Jos 9:13 καὶ οὗτοι οἱ ἀσκοὶ τοῦ οἴνου οὓς ἐπλήσαμεν καινούς καὶ οὗτοι ἐρρώγασιν καὶ τὰ ἱμάτια ἡμῶν καὶ τὰ ὑποδήματα ἡμῶν πεπαλαίωται ἀπὸ τῆς πολλῆς ὁδοῦ σφόδρα (lxx) Jos 9:13 Utres vini novos implevimus; nunc rupti sunt et soluti. Vestes et calceamenta quibus induimur, et quæ habemus in pedibus, ob longitudinem longioris viæ trita sunt, et pene consumpta.(vulgate) 13 ׃9 וְאֵ֨לֶּה נֹאד֤וֹת הַיַּ֙יִן֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר מִלֵּ֣אנוּ חֲדָשִׁ֔ים וְהִנֵּ֖ה הִתְבַּקָּ֑עוּ וְאֵ֤לֶּה שַׂלְמוֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙ וּנְעָלֵ֔ינוּ בָּל֕וּ מֵרֹ֥ב הַדֶּ֖רֶךְ מְאֹֽד׃ Joshua Jos 9:13 und diese Weinschläuche füllten wir neu, und siehe, sie sind zerrissen; und diese unsre Kleider und Schuhe sind alt geworden über der sehr langen Reise.(dhs) Jos 9:13 And these wineskins which we filled were new, and see, they are torn; and these our garments and our sandals have become old because of the very long journey."(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:14 ============ Jos 9:14 So the men of Israel took some of their provisions, and did not ask for the counsel of the Lord.(nas) Jos 9:14 καὶ ἔλαβον οἱ ἄρχοντες τοῦ ἐπισιτισμοῦ αὐτῶν καὶ κύριον οὐκ ἐπηρώτησαν (lxx) Jos 9:14 Susceperunt igitur de cibariis eorum, et os Domini non interrogaverunt.(vulgate) 14 ׃9 וַיִּקְח֥וּ הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֖ים מִצֵּידָ֑ם וְאֶת־פִּ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לֹ֥א שָׁאָֽלוּ׃ Joshua Jos 9:14 Da nahmen die Hauptleute ihre Speise an und fragten den Mund des HERRN nicht.(dhs) Jos 9:14 Then the men of Israel took some of their provisions; but they did not ask counsel of the Lord.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:15 ============ Jos 9:15 Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them, to let them live; and the leaders of the congregation swore an oath to them.(nas) Jos 9:15 καὶ ἐποίησεν Ἰησοῦς πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἰρήνην καὶ διέθετο πρὸς αὐτοὺς διαθήκην τοῦ διασῶσαι αὐτούς καὶ ὤμοσαν αὐτοῖς οἱ ἄρχοντες τῆς συναγωγῆς (lxx) Jos 9:15 Fecitque Josue cum eis pacem, et inito fœdere pollicitus est quod non occiderentur: principes quoque multitudinis juraverunt eis.~(vulgate) 15 ׃9 וַיַּ֨עַשׂ לָהֶ֤ם יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ שָׁל֔וֹם וַיִּכְרֹ֥ת לָהֶ֛ם בְּרִ֖ית לְחַיּוֹתָ֑ם וַיִּשָּׁבְע֣וּ לָהֶ֔ם נְשִׂיאֵ֖י הָעֵדָֽה׃ Joshua Jos 9:15 Und Josua machte Frieden mit ihnen und richtete einen Bund mit ihnen auf, daß sie leben bleiben sollten. Und die Obersten der Gemeinde schwuren ihnen.(dhs) Jos 9:15 So Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them to let them live; and the rulers of the congregation swore to them.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:16 ============ Jos 9:16 It came about at the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were neighbors and that they were living within their land.(nas) Jos 9:16 καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας μετὰ τὸ διαθέσθαι πρὸς αὐτοὺς διαθήκην ἤκουσαν ὅτι ἐγγύθεν αὐτῶν εἰσιν καὶ ὅτι ἐν αὐτοῖς κατοικοῦσιν (lxx) Jos 9:16 Post dies autem tres initi fœderis, audierunt quod in vicino habitarent, et inter eos futuri essent.(vulgate) 16 ׃9 וַיְהִ֗י מִקְצֵה֙ שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת יָמִ֔ים אַחֲרֵ֕י אֲשֶׁר־כָּרְת֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם בְּרִ֑ית וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֗וּ כִּי־קְרֹבִ֥ים הֵם֙ אֵלָ֔יו וּבְקִרְבּ֖וֹ הֵ֥ם יֹשְׁבִֽים׃ Joshua Jos 9:16 Aber über drei Tage, nachdem sie mit ihnen einen Bund gemacht hatten, kam es vor sie, daß jene nahe bei ihnen waren und würden unter ihnen wohnen.(dhs) Jos 9:16 And it happened at the end of three days, after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbors who dwelt near them.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:17 ============ Jos 9:17 Then the sons of Israel set out and came to their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon and Chephirah and Beeroth and Kiriath-jearim.(nas) Jos 9:17 καὶ ἀπῆραν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἦλθον εἰς τὰς πόλεις αὐτῶν αἱ δὲ πόλεις αὐτῶν Γαβαων καὶ Κεφιρα καὶ Βηρωθ καὶ πόλις Ιαριν (lxx) Jos 9:17 Moveruntque castra filii Israël, et venerunt in civitates eorum die tertio, quarum hæc vocabula sunt: Gabaon, et Caphira, et Beroth, et Cariathiarim.(vulgate) 17 ׃9 וַיִּסְע֣וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וַיָּבֹ֛אוּ אֶל־עָרֵיהֶ֖ם בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑י וְעָרֵיהֶם֙ גִּבְע֣וֹן וְהַכְּפִירָ֔ה וּבְאֵר֖וֹת וְקִרְיַ֥ת יְעָרִֽים׃ Joshua Jos 9:17 Denn da die Kinder Israel fortzogen, kamen sie des dritten Tages zu ihren Städten, die hießen Gibeon, Kaphira, Beeroth und Kirjath-Jearim,(dhs) Jos 9:17 Then the children of Israel journeyed and came to their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kirjath Jearim.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:18 ============ Jos 9:18 The sons of Israel did not strike them because the leaders of the congregation had sworn to them by the Lord the God of Israel. And the whole congregation grumbled against the leaders.(nas) Jos 9:18 καὶ οὐκ ἐμαχέσαντο αὐτοῖς οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ὅτι ὤμοσαν αὐτοῖς πάντες οἱ ἄρχοντες κύριον τὸν θεὸν Ισραηλ καὶ διεγόγγυσαν πᾶσα ἡ συναγωγὴ ἐπὶ τοῖς ἄρχουσιν (lxx) Jos 9:18 Et non percusserunt eos, eo quod jurassent eis principes multitudinis in nomine Domini Dei Israël. Murmuravit itaque omne vulgus contra principes.(vulgate) 18 ׃9 וְלֹ֤א הִכּוּם֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּֽי־נִשְׁבְּע֤וּ לָהֶם֙ נְשִׂיאֵ֣י הָֽעֵדָ֔ה בַּֽיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּלֹּ֥נוּ כָל־הָעֵדָ֖ה עַל־הַנְּשִׂיאִֽים׃ Joshua Jos 9:18 und schlugen sie nicht, darum daß ihnen die Obersten der Gemeinde geschworen hatten bei dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels. Da aber die ganze Gemeinde wider die Obersten murrte,(dhs) Jos 9:18 But the children of Israel did not attack them, because the rulers of the congregation had sworn to them by the Lord God of Israel. And all the congregation complained against the rulers.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:19 ============ Jos 9:19 But all the leaders said to the whole congregation, "We have sworn to them by the Lord, the God of Israel, and now we cannot touch them.(nas) Jos 9:19 καὶ εἶπαν οἱ ἄρχοντες πάσῃ τῇ συναγωγῇ ἡμεῖς ὠμόσαμεν αὐτοῖς κύριον τὸν θεὸν Ισραηλ καὶ νῦν οὐ δυνησόμεθα ἅψασθαι αὐτῶν (lxx) Jos 9:19 Qui responderunt eis: Juravimus illis in nomine Domini Dei Israël, et idcirco non possumus eos contingere.(vulgate) 19 ׃9 וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ כָל־הַנְּשִׂיאִים֙ אֶל־כָּל־הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה אֲנַ֙חְנוּ֙ נִשְׁבַּ֣עְנוּ לָהֶ֔ם בַּֽיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְעַתָּ֕ה לֹ֥א נוּכַ֖ל לִנְגֹּ֥עַ בָּהֶֽם׃ Joshua Jos 9:19 sprachen alle Obersten zu der ganzen Gemeinde: Wir haben ihnen geschworen bei dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels; darum können wir sie nicht antasten.(dhs) Jos 9:19 Then all the rulers said to all the congregation, "We have sworn to them by the Lord God of Israel; now therefore, we may not touch them.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:20 ============ Jos 9:20 This we will do to them, even let them live, so that wrath will not be upon us for the oath which we swore to them."(nas) Jos 9:20 τοῦτο ποιήσομεν ζωγρῆσαι αὐτούς καὶ περιποιησόμεθα αὐτούς καὶ οὐκ ἔσται καθ᾽ ἡμῶν ὀργὴ διὰ τὸν ὅρκον ὃν ὠμόσαμεν αὐτοῖς (lxx) Jos 9:20 Sed hoc faciemus eis: reserventur quidem ut vivant, ne contra nos ira Domini concitetur, si pejeraverimus:(vulgate) 20 ׃9 זֹ֛את נַעֲשֶׂ֥ה לָהֶ֖ם וְהַחֲיֵ֣ה אוֹתָ֑ם וְלֹֽא־יִֽהְיֶ֤ה עָלֵ֙ינוּ֙ קֶ֔צֶף עַל־הַשְּׁבוּעָ֖ה אֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁבַּ֥עְנוּ לָהֶֽם׃ Joshua Jos 9:20 Aber das wollen wir tun: laßt sie leben, daß nicht ein Zorn über uns komme um des Eides willen, den wir ihnen getan haben.(dhs) Jos 9:20 This we will do to them: We will let them live, lest wrath be upon us because of the oath which we swore to them."(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:21 ============ Jos 9:21 The leaders said to them, "Let them live." So they became hewers of wood and drawers of water for the whole congregation, just as the leaders had spoken to them.(nas) Jos 9:21 ζήσονται καὶ ἔσονται ξυλοκόποι καὶ ὑδροφόροι πάσῃ τῇ συναγωγῇ καθάπερ εἶπαν αὐτοῖς οἱ ἄρχοντες (lxx) Jos 9:21 sed sic vivant, ut in usus universæ multitudinis ligna cædant, aquasque comportent. Quibus hæc loquentibus,(vulgate) 21 ׃9 וַיֹּאמְר֧וּ אֲלֵיהֶ֛ם הַנְּשִׂיאִ֖ים יִֽחְי֑וּ וַ֠יִּֽהְיוּ חֹטְבֵ֨י עֵצִ֤ים וְשֹֽׁאֲבֵי־מַ֙יִם֙ לְכָל־הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר דִּבְּר֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם הַנְּשִׂיאִֽים׃ Joshua Jos 9:21 Und die Obersten sprachen zu ihnen: Laßt sie leben, daß sie Holzhauer und Wasserträger seien der ganzen Gemeinde, wie ihnen die Obersten gesagt haben.(dhs) Jos 9:21 And the rulers said to them, "Let them live, but let them be woodcutters and water carriers for all the congregation, as the rulers had promised them."(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:22 ============ Jos 9:22 Then Joshua called for them and spoke to them, saying, "Why have you deceived us, saying, 'We are very far from you,' when you are living within our land?(nas) Jos 9:22 καὶ συνεκάλεσεν αὐτοὺς Ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς διὰ τί παρελογίσασθέ με λέγοντες μακρὰν ἀπὸ σοῦ ἐσμεν σφόδρα ὑμεῖς δὲ ἐγχώριοί ἐστε τῶν κατοικούντων ἐν ἡμῖν (lxx) Jos 9:22 vocavit Gabaonitas Josue, et dixit eis: Cur nos decipere fraude voluistis, ut diceretis: Procul valde habitamus a vobis, cum in medio nostri sitis?(vulgate) 22 ׃9 וַיִּקְרָ֤א לָהֶם֙ יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר לָמָּה֩ רִמִּיתֶ֨ם אֹתָ֜נוּ לֵאמֹ֗ר רְחוֹקִ֨ים אֲנַ֤חְנוּ מִכֶּם֙ מְאֹ֔ד וְאַתֶּ֖ם בְּקִרְבֵּ֥נוּ יֹשְׁבִֽים׃ Joshua Jos 9:22 Da rief sie Josua und redete mit ihnen und sprach: Warum habt ihr uns betrogen und gesagt, ihr seid sehr ferne von uns, so ihr doch unter uns wohnet?(dhs) Jos 9:22 Then Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying, "Why have you deceived us, saying, 'We are very far from you,' when you dwell near us?(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:23 ============ Jos 9:23 Now therefore, you are cursed, and you shall never cease being slaves, both hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God."(nas) Jos 9:23 καὶ νῦν ἐπικατάρατοί ἐστε οὐ μὴ ἐκλίπῃ ἐξ ὑμῶν δοῦλος οὐδὲ ξυλοκόπος ἐμοὶ καὶ τῷ θεῷ μου (lxx) Jos 9:23 itaque sub maledictione eritis, et non deficiet de stirpe vestra ligna cædens, aquasque comportans in domum Dei mei.(vulgate) 23 ׃9 וְעַתָּ֖ה אֲרוּרִ֣ים אַתֶּ֑ם וְלֹֽא־יִכָּרֵ֨ת מִכֶּ֜ם עֶ֗בֶד וְחֹטְבֵ֥י עֵצִ֛ים וְשֹֽׁאֲבֵי־מַ֖יִם לְבֵ֥ית אֱלֹהָֽי׃ Joshua Jos 9:23 Darum sollt ihr verflucht sein, daß unter euch nicht aufhören Knechte, die Holz hauen und Wasser tragen zum Hause meines Gottes.(dhs) Jos 9:23 Now therefore, you are cursed, and none of you shall be freed from being slaves--woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God."(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:24 ============ Jos 9:24 So they answered Joshua and said, "Because it was certainly told your servants that the Lord your God had commanded His servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land before you; therefore we feared greatly for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.(nas) Jos 9:24 καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν τῷ Ἰησοῖ λέγοντες ἀνηγγέλη ἡμῖν ὅσα συνέταξεν κύριος ὁ θεός σου Μωυσῇ τῷ παιδὶ αὐτοῦ δοῦναι ὑμῖν τὴν γῆν ταύτην καὶ ἐξολεθρεῦσαι ἡμᾶς καὶ πάντας τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐπ᾽ αὐτῆς ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν καὶ ἐφοβήθημεν σφόδρα περὶ τῶν ψυχῶν ἡμῶν ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν καὶ ἐποιήσαμεν τὸ πρᾶγμα τοῦτο (lxx) Jos 9:24 Qui responderunt: Nuntiatum est nobis servis tuis, quod promisisset Dominus Deus tuus Moysi servo suo ut traderet vobis omnem terram, et disperderet cunctos habitatores ejus. Timuimus igitur valde, et providimus animabus nostris, vestro terrore compulsi, et hoc consilium inivimus.(vulgate) 24 ׃9 וַיַּעֲנ֨וּ אֶת־יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ כִּי֩ הֻגֵּ֨ד הֻגַּ֤ד לַעֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙ אֵת֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֜ה יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֣ה עַבְדּ֔וֹ לָתֵ֤ת לָכֶם֙ אֶת־כָּל־הָאָ֔רֶץ וּלְהַשְׁמִ֛יד אֶת־כָּל־יֹשְׁבֵ֥י הָאָ֖רֶץ מִפְּנֵיכֶ֑ם וַנִּירָ֨א מְאֹ֤ד לְנַפְשֹׁתֵ֙ינוּ֙ מִפְּנֵיכֶ֔ם וַֽנַּעֲשֵׂ֖ה אֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃ Joshua Jos 9:24 Sie antworteten Josua und sprachen: Es ist deinen Knechten angesagt, daß der HERR, dein Gott, Mose, seinem Knecht, geboten habe, daß er euch das ganze Land geben und vor euch her alle Einwohner des Landes vertilgen wolle. Da fürchteten wir für unser Leben vor euch sehr und haben solches getan.(dhs) Jos 9:24 So they answered Joshua and said, "Because your servants were clearly told that the Lord your God commanded His servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; therefore we were very much afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:25 ============ Jos 9:25 Now behold, we are in your hands; do as it seems good and right in your sight to do to us."(nas) Jos 9:25 καὶ νῦν ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ὑποχείριοι ὑμῖν ὡς ἀρέσκει ὑμῖν καὶ ὡς δοκεῖ ὑμῖν ποιήσατε ἡμῖν (lxx) Jos 9:25 Nunc autem in manu tua sumus: quod tibi bonum et rectum videtur, fac nobis.(vulgate) 25 ׃9 וְעַתָּ֖ה הִנְנ֣וּ בְיָדֶ֑ךָ כַּטּ֨וֹב וְכַיָּשָׁ֧ר בְּעֵינֶ֛יךָ לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת לָ֖נוּ עֲשֵֽׂה׃ Joshua Jos 9:25 Nun aber, siehe, wir sind in deinen Händen; was dich gut dünkt uns zu tun, das tue.(dhs) Jos 9:25 And now, here we are, in your hands; do with us as it seems good and right to do to us."(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:26 ============ Jos 9:26 Thus he did to them, and delivered them from the hands of the sons of Israel, and they did not kill them.(nas) Jos 9:26 καὶ ἐποίησαν αὐτοῖς οὕτως καὶ ἐξείλατο αὐτοὺς Ἰησοῦς ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐκ χειρῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ καὶ οὐκ ἀνεῖλον αὐτούς (lxx) Jos 9:26 Fecit ergo Josue ut dixerat, et liberavit eos de manu filiorum Israël, ut non occiderentur.(vulgate) 26 ׃9 וַיַּ֥עַשׂ לָהֶ֖ם כֵּ֑ן וַיַּצֵּ֥ל אוֹתָ֛ם מִיַּ֥ד בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וְלֹ֥א הֲרָגֽוּם׃ Joshua Jos 9:26 Und er tat ihnen also und errettete sie von der Kinder Israel Hand, daß sie sie nicht erwürgten.(dhs) Jos 9:26 So he did to them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, so that they did not kill them.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 9:27 ============ Jos 9:27 But Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation and for the altar of the Lord, to this day, in the place which He would choose.(nas) Jos 9:27 καὶ κατέστησεν αὐτοὺς Ἰησοῦς ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ξυλοκόπους καὶ ὑδροφόρους πάσῃ τῇ συναγωγῇ καὶ τῷ θυσιαστηρίῳ τοῦ θεοῦ διὰ τοῦτο ἐγένοντο οἱ κατοικοῦντες Γαβαων ξυλοκόποι καὶ ὑδροφόροι τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ἕως τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας καὶ εἰς τὸν τόπον ὃν ἐὰν ἐκλέξηται κύριος (lxx) Jos 9:27 Decrevitque in illo die eos esse in ministerio cuncti populi, et altaris Domini, cædentes ligna, et aquas comportantes, usque in præsens tempus, in loco quem Dominus elegisset.(vulgate) 27 ׃9 וַיִּתְּנֵ֨ם יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא חֹטְבֵ֥י עֵצִ֛ים וְשֹׁ֥אֲבֵי מַ֖יִם לָֽעֵדָ֑ה וּלְמִזְבַּ֤ח יְהוָה֙ עַד־הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה אֶל־הַמָּק֖וֹם אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִבְחָֽר׃ פ Joshua Jos 9:27 Also machte sie Josua desselben Tages zu Holzhauern und Wasserträgern für die Gemeinde und den Altar des HERRN bis auf diesen Tag, an dem Ort, den er erwählen würde.(dhs) Jos 9:27 And that day Joshua made them woodcutters and water carriers for the congregation and for the altar of the Lord, in the place which He would choose, even to this day.(nkjv) ======= Joshua 10:1 ============ top of the page
