Sed et hoc vanitas.(vulgate) Ecl 7:6 Denn das Lachen der Narren ist wie das Krachen der Dornen unter den Töpfen; und das ist auch eitel.(dhs) Ecl 7:6 For like the crackling of thorns under a pot, So is the laughter of the fool. This also is vanity.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:7 ============ Ecl 7:7 For oppression makes a wise man mad, And a bribe corrupts the heart.(nasb) Ecl 7:7 ὅτι ἡ συκοφαντία περιφέρει σοφὸν καὶ ἀπόλλυσι τὴν καρδίαν εὐτονίας αὐτοῦ (lxx) Ecl 7:7 Calumnia conturbat sapientem, et perdet robur cordis illius.(vulgate) Ecl 7:7 Ein Widerspenstiger macht einen Weisen unwillig und verderbt ein mildtätiges Herz.(dhs) Ecl 7:7 Surely oppression destroys a wise man's reason, And a bribe debases the heart.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:8 ============ Ecl 7:8 The end of a matter is better than its beginning; Patience of spirit is better than haughtiness of spirit.(nasb) Ecl 7:8 ἀγαθὴ ἐσχάτη λόγων ὑπὲρ ἀρχὴν αὐτοῦ ἀγαθὸν μακρόθυμος ὑπὲρ ὑψηλὸν πνεύματι (lxx) Ecl 7:8 Melior est finis orationis quam principium. Melior est patiens arrogante.(vulgate) Ecl 7:8 Das Ende eines Dinges ist besser denn sein Anfang. Ein geduldiger Geist ist besser denn ein hoher Geist.(dhs) Ecl 7:8 The end of a thing is better than its beginning; The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:9 ============ Ecl 7:9 Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, For anger resides in the bosom of fools.(nasb) Ecl 7:9 μὴ σπεύσῃς ἐν πνεύματί σου τοῦ θυμοῦσθαι ὅτι θυμὸς ἐν κόλπῳ ἀφρόνων ἀναπαύσεται (lxx) Ecl 7:9 Ne sis velox ad irascendum, quia ira in sinu stulti requiescit.(vulgate) Ecl 7:9 Sei nicht schnellen Gemütes zu zürnen; denn Zorn ruht im Herzen eines Narren.(dhs) Ecl 7:9 Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, For anger rests in the bosom of fools.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:10 ============ Ecl 7:10 Do not say, "Why is it that the former days were better than these?" For it is not from wisdom that you ask about this.(nasb) Ecl 7:10 μὴ εἴπῃς τί ἐγένετο ὅτι αἱ ἡμέραι αἱ πρότεραι ἦσαν ἀγαθαὶ ὑπὲρ ταύτας ὅτι οὐκ ἐν σοφίᾳ ἐπηρώτησας περὶ τούτου (lxx) Ecl 7:10 Ne dicas: Quid putas causæ est quod priora tempora meliora fuere quam nunc sunt? stulta enim est hujuscemodi interrogatio.(vulgate) Ecl 7:10 Sprich nicht: Was ist's, daß die vorigen Tage besser waren als diese? denn du fragst solches nicht weislich.(dhs) Ecl 7:10 Do not say, "Why were the former days better than these?" For you do not inquire wisely concerning this.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:11 ============ Ecl 7:11 Wisdom along with an inheritance is good And an advantage to those who see the sun.(nasb) Ecl 7:11 ἀγαθὴ σοφία μετὰ κληροδοσίας καὶ περισσεία τοῖς θεωροῦσιν τὸν ἥλιον (lxx) Ecl 7:11 Utilior est sapientia cum divitiis, et magis prodest videntibus solem.(vulgate) Ecl 7:11 Weisheit ist gut mit einem Erbgut und hilft, daß sich einer der Sonne freuen kann.(dhs) Ecl 7:11 Wisdom is good with an inheritance, And profitable to those who see the sun.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:12 ============ Ecl 7:12 For wisdom is protection just as money is protection, But the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the lives of its possessors.(nasb) Ecl 7:12 ὅτι ἐν σκιᾷ αὐτῆς ἡ σοφία ὡς σκιὰ τοῦ ἀργυρίου καὶ περισσεία γνώσεως τῆς σοφίας ζωοποιήσει τὸν παρ᾽ αὐτῆς (lxx) Ecl 7:12 Sicut enim protegit sapientia, sic protegit pecunia; hoc autem plus habet eruditio et sapientia, quod vitam tribuunt possessori suo.(vulgate) Ecl 7:12 Denn die Weisheit beschirmt, so beschirmt Geld auch; aber die Weisheit gibt das Leben dem, der sie hat.(dhs) Ecl 7:12 For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense, But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:13 ============ Ecl 7:13 Consider the work of God, For who is able to straighten what He has bent?(nasb) Ecl 7:13 ἰδὲ τὰ ποιήματα τοῦ θεοῦ ὅτι τίς δυνήσεται τοῦ κοσμῆσαι ὃν ἂν ὁ θεὸς διαστρέψῃ αὐτόν (lxx) Ecl 7:13 Considera opera Dei, quod nemo possit corrigere quem ille despexerit.(vulgate) Ecl 7:13 Siehe an die Werke Gottes; denn wer kann das schlicht machen, was er krümmt?(dhs) Ecl 7:13 Consider the work of God; For who can make straight what He has made crooked?(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:14 ============ Ecl 7:14 In the day of prosperity be happy, But in the day of adversity consider-- God has made the one as well as the other So that man will not discover anything that will be after him.(nasb) Ecl 7:14 ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ἀγαθωσύνης ζῆθι ἐν ἀγαθῷ καὶ ἐν ἡμέρᾳ κακίας ἰδέ καί γε σὺν τοῦτο σύμφωνον τούτῳ ἐποίησεν ὁ θεὸς περὶ λαλιᾶς ἵνα μὴ εὕρῃ ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ μηδέν (lxx) Ecl 7:14 In die bona fruere bonis, et malam diem præcave; sicut enim hanc, sic et illam fecit Deus, ut non inveniat homo contra eum justas querimonias.(vulgate) Ecl 7:14 Am guten Tage sei guter Dinge, und den bösen Tag nimm auch für gut; denn diesen schafft Gott neben jenem, daß der Mensch nicht wissen soll, was künftig ist.(dhs) Ecl 7:14 In the day of prosperity be joyful, But in the day of adversity consider: Surely God has appointed the one as well as the other, So that man can find out nothing that will come after him.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:15 ============ Ecl 7:15 I have seen everything during my lifetime of futility; there is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness and there is a wicked man who prolongs his life in his wickedness.(nasb) Ecl 7:15 σὺν τὰ πάντα εἶδον ἐν ἡμέραις ματαιότητός μου ἔστιν δίκαιος ἀπολλύμενος ἐν δικαίῳ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔστιν ἀσεβὴς μένων ἐν κακίᾳ αὐτοῦ (lxx) Ecl 7:15 Hæc quoque vidi in diebus vanitatis meæ: justus perit in justitia sua, et impius multo vivit tempore in malitia sua.(vulgate) Ecl 7:15 Allerlei habe ich gesehen in den Tagen meiner Eitelkeit. Da ist ein Gerechter, und geht unter mit seiner Gerechtigkeit; und ein Gottloser, der lange lebt in seiner Bosheit.(dhs) Ecl 7:15 I have seen everything in my days of vanity: There is a just man who perishes in his righteousness, And there is a wicked man who prolongs life in his wickedness.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:16 ============ Ecl 7:16 Do not be excessively righteous and do not be overly wise. Why should you ruin yourself?(nasb) Ecl 7:16 μὴ γίνου δίκαιος πολὺ καὶ μὴ σοφίζου περισσά μήποτε ἐκπλαγῇς (lxx) Ecl 7:16 Noli esse justus multum, neque plus sapias quam necesse est, ne obstupescas.(vulgate) Ecl 7:16 Sei nicht allzu gerecht und nicht allzu weise, daß du dich nicht verderbest.(dhs) Ecl 7:16 Do not be overly righteous, Nor be overly wise: Why should you destroy yourself?(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:17 ============ Ecl 7:17 Do not be excessively wicked and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time?(nasb) Ecl 7:17 μὴ ἀσεβήσῃς πολὺ καὶ μὴ γίνου σκληρός ἵνα μὴ ἀποθάνῃς ἐν οὐ καιρῷ σου (lxx) Ecl 7:17 Ne impie agas multum, et noli esse stultus, ne moriaris in tempore non tuo.(vulgate) Ecl 7:17 Sei nicht allzu gottlos und narre nicht, daß du nicht sterbest zur Unzeit.(dhs) Ecl 7:17 Do not be overly wicked, Nor be foolish: Why should you die before your time?(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:18 ============ Ecl 7:18 It is good that you grasp one thing and also not let go of the other; for the one who fears God comes forth with both of them.(nasb) Ecl 7:18 ἀγαθὸν τὸ ἀντέχεσθαί σε ἐν τούτῳ καί γε ἀπὸ τούτου μὴ ἀνῇς τὴν χεῖρά σου ὅτι φοβούμενος τὸν θεὸν ἐξελεύσεται τὰ πάντα (lxx) Ecl 7:18 Bonum est te sustentare justum: sed et ab illo ne subtrahas manum tuam; quia qui timet Deum nihil negligit.(vulgate) Ecl 7:18 Es ist gut, daß du dies fassest und jenes auch nicht aus deiner Hand lässest; denn wer Gott fürchtet, der entgeht dem allem.(dhs) Ecl 7:18 It is good that you grasp this, And also not remove your hand from the other; For he who fears God will escape them all.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:19 ============ Ecl 7:19 Wisdom strengthens a wise man more than ten rulers who are in a city.(nasb) Ecl 7:19 ἡ σοφία βοηθήσει τῷ σοφῷ ὑπὲρ δέκα ἐξουσιάζοντας τοὺς ὄντας ἐν τῇ πόλει (lxx) Ecl 7:19 Sapientia confortavit sapientem super decem principes civitatis;(vulgate) Ecl 7:19 Die Weisheit stärkt den Weisen mehr denn zehn Gewaltige, die in der Stadt sind.(dhs) Ecl 7:19 Wisdom strengthens the wise More than ten rulers of the city.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:20 ============ Ecl 7:20 Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins.(nasb) Ecl 7:20 ὅτι ἄνθρωπος οὐκ ἔστιν δίκαιος ἐν τῇ γῇ ὃς ποιήσει ἀγαθὸν καὶ οὐχ ἁμαρτήσεται (lxx) Ecl 7:20 non est enim homo justus in terra qui faciat bonum et non peccet.(vulgate) Ecl 7:20 Denn es ist kein Mensch so gerecht auf Erden, daß er Gutes tue und nicht sündige.(dhs) Ecl 7:20 For there is not a just man on earth who does good And does not sin.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:21 ============ Ecl 7:21 Also, do not take seriously all words which are spoken, so that you will not hear your servant cursing you.(nasb) Ecl 7:21 καί γε εἰς πάντας τοὺς λόγους οὓς λαλήσουσιν μὴ θῇς καρδίαν σου ὅπως μὴ ἀκούσῃς τοῦ δούλου σου καταρωμένου σε (lxx) Ecl 7:21 Sed et cunctis sermonibus qui dicuntur ne accomodes cor tuum, ne forte audias servum tuum maledicentem tibi;(vulgate) Ecl 7:21 Gib auch nicht acht auf alles, was man sagt, daß du nicht hören müssest deinen Knecht dir fluchen.(dhs) Ecl 7:21 Also do not take to heart everything people say, Lest you hear your servant cursing you.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:22 ============ Ecl 7:22 For you also have realized that you likewise have many times cursed others.(nasb) Ecl 7:22 ὅτι πλειστάκις πονηρεύσεταί σε καὶ καθόδους πολλὰς κακώσει καρδίαν σου ὅπως καί γε σὺ κατηράσω ἑτέρους (lxx) Ecl 7:22 scit enim conscientia tua quia et tu crebro maledixisti aliis.(vulgate) Ecl 7:22 Denn dein Herz weiß, daß du andern oftmals geflucht hast.(dhs) Ecl 7:22 For many times, also, your own heart has known That even you have cursed others.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:23 ============ Ecl 7:23 I tested all this with wisdom, and I said, "I will be wise," but it was far from me.(nasb) Ecl 7:23 πάντα ταῦτα ἐπείρασα ἐν τῇ σοφίᾳ εἶπα σοφισθήσομαι (lxx) Ecl 7:23 Cuncta tentavi in sapientia. Et alta profunditas, quis inveniet eam?]~(vulgate) Ecl 7:24 Alles, was da ist, das ist ferne und sehr tief; wer will's finden?(dhs) Ecl 7:24 As for that which is far off and exceedingly deep, Who can find it out?(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:25 ============ Ecl 7:25 I directed my mind to know, to investigate and to seek wisdom and an explanation, and to know the evil of folly and the foolishness of madness.(nasb) Ecl 7:25 ἐκύκλωσα ἐγώ καὶ ἡ καρδία μου τοῦ γνῶναι καὶ τοῦ κατασκέψασθαι καὶ ζητῆσαι σοφίαν καὶ ψῆφον καὶ τοῦ γνῶναι ἀσεβοῦς ἀφροσύνην καὶ σκληρίαν καὶ περιφοράν (lxx) Ecl 7:25 [Lustravi universa animo meo, ut scirem et considerarem, et quærerem sapientiam, et rationem, et ut cognoscerem impietatem stulti, et errorem imprudentium:(vulgate) Ecl 7:25 Ich kehrte mein Herz, zu erfahren und erforschen und zu suchen Weisheit und Kunst, zu erfahren der Gottlosen Torheit und Irrtum der Tollen,(dhs) Ecl 7:25 I applied my heart to know, To search and seek out wisdom and the reason of things, To know the wickedness of folly, Even of foolishness and madness.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:26 ============ Ecl 7:26 And I discovered more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, whose hands are chains. One who is pleasing to God will escape from her, but the sinner will be captured by her.(nasb) Ecl 7:26 καὶ εὑρίσκω ἐγὼ πικρότερον ὑπὲρ θάνατον σὺν τὴν γυναῖκα ἥτις ἐστὶν θηρεύματα καὶ σαγῆναι καρδία αὐτῆς δεσμοὶ χεῖρες αὐτῆς ἀγαθὸς πρὸ προσώπου τοῦ θεοῦ ἐξαιρεθήσεται ἀπ᾽ αὐτῆς καὶ ἁμαρτάνων συλλημφθήσεται ἐν αὐτῇ (lxx) Ecl 7:26 et inveni amariorem morte mulierem, quæ laqueus venatorum est, et sagena cor ejus; vincula sunt manus illius. Qui placet Deo effugiet illam; qui autem peccator est capietur ab illa.(vulgate) Ecl 7:26 und fand, daß bitterer sei denn der Tod ein solches Weib, dessen Herz Netz und Strick ist und deren Hände Bande sind.
