Today's Date: ======= Ecclesiastes 9:1 ============ Ecl 9:1 For I have taken all this to my heart and explain it that righteous men, wise men, and their deeds are in the hand of God. Man does not know whether it will be love or hatred; anything awaits him.(nasb) Ecl 9:1 ὅτι σὺν πᾶν τοῦτο ἔδωκα εἰς καρδίαν μου καὶ καρδία μου σὺν πᾶν εἶδεν τοῦτο ὡς οἱ δίκαιοι καὶ οἱ σοφοὶ καὶ ἐργασίαι αὐτῶν ἐν χειρὶ τοῦ θεοῦ καί γε ἀγάπην καί γε μῖσος οὐκ ἔστιν εἰδὼς ὁ ἄνθρωπος τὰ πάντα πρὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν (lxx) Ecl 9:1 [Omnia hæc tractavi in corde meo, ut curiose intelligerem. Sunt justi atque sapientes, et opera eorum in manu Dei; et tamen nescit homo utrum amore an odio dignus sit.(vulgate) Ecl 9:1 Denn ich habe solches alles zu Herzen genommen, zu forschen das alles, daß Gerechte und Weise und ihre Werke sind in Gottes Hand; kein Mensch kennt weder die Liebe noch den Haß irgend eines, den er vor sich hat.(dhs) Ecl 9:1 For I considered all this in my heart, so that I could declare it all: that the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God. People know neither love nor hatred by anything they see before them.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:2 ============ Ecl 9:2 It is the same for all. There is one fate for the righteous and for the wicked; for the good, for the clean and for the unclean; for the man who offers a sacrifice and for the one who does not sacrifice. As the good man is, so is the sinner; as the swearer is, so is the one who is afraid to swear.(nasb) Ecl 9:2 ματαιότης ἐν τοῖς πᾶσιν συνάντημα ἓν τῷ δικαίῳ καὶ τῷ ἀσεβεῖ τῷ ἀγαθῷ καὶ τῷ κακῷ καὶ τῷ καθαρῷ καὶ τῷ ἀκαθάρτῳ καὶ τῷ θυσιάζοντι καὶ τῷ μὴ θυσιάζοντι ὡς ὁ ἀγαθός ὧς ὁ ἁμαρτάνων ὧς ὁ ὀμνύων καθὼς ὁ τὸν ὅρκον φοβούμενος (lxx) Ecl 9:2 Sed omnia in futurum servantur incerta, eo quod universa æque eveniant justo et impio, bono et malo, mundo et immundo, immolanti victimas et sacrificia contemnenti. Sicut bonus, sic et peccator; ut perjurus, ita et ille qui verum dejerat.]~(vulgate) Ecl 9:2 Es begegnet dasselbe einem wie dem andern: dem Gerechten wie dem Gottlosen, dem Guten und Reinen wie dem Unreinen, dem, der opfert, wie dem, der nicht opfert; wie es dem Guten geht, so geht's auch dem Sünder; wie es dem, der schwört, geht, so geht's auch dem, der den Eid fürchtet.(dhs) Ecl 9:2 All things come alike to all: One event happens to the righteous and the wicked; To the good, the clean, and the unclean; To him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; He who takes an oath as he who fears an oath.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:3 ============ Ecl 9:3 This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one fate for all men. Furthermore, the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil and insanity is in their hearts throughout their lives. Afterwards they go to the dead.(nasb) Ecl 9:3 τοῦτο πονηρὸν ἐν παντὶ πεποιημένῳ ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ὅτι συνάντημα ἓν τοῖς πᾶσιν καί γε καρδία υἱῶν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐπληρώθη πονηροῦ καὶ περιφέρεια ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτῶν ἐν ζωῇ αὐτῶν καὶ ὀπίσω αὐτῶν πρὸς τοὺς νεκρούς (lxx) Ecl 9:3 [Hoc est pessimum inter omnia quæ sub sole fiunt: quia eadem cunctis eveniunt. Unde et corda filiorum hominum implentur malitia et contemptu in vita sua, et post hæc ad inferos deducentur.(vulgate) Ecl 9:3 Das ist ein böses Ding unter allem, was unter der Sonne geschieht, daß es einem geht wie dem andern; daher auch das Herz der Menschen voll Arges wird, und Torheit ist in ihrem Herzen, dieweil sie leben; darnach müssen sie sterben.(dhs) Ecl 9:3 This is an evil in all that is done under the sun: that one thing happens to all. Truly the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil; madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:4 ============ Ecl 9:4 For whoever is joined with all the living, there is hope; surely a live dog is better than a dead lion.(nasb) Ecl 9:4 ὅτι τίς ὃς κοινωνεῖ πρὸς πάντας τοὺς ζῶντας ἔστιν ἐλπίς ὅτι ὁ κύων ὁ ζῶν αὐτὸς ἀγαθὸς ὑπὲρ τὸν λέοντα τὸν νεκρόν (lxx) Ecl 9:4 Nemo est qui semper vivat, et qui hujus rei habeat fiduciam; melior est canis vivus leone mortuo.(vulgate) Ecl 9:4 Denn bei allen Lebendigen ist, was man wünscht: Hoffnung; denn ein lebendiger Hund ist besser denn ein toter Löwe.(dhs) Ecl 9:4 But for him who is joined to all the living there is hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:5 ============ Ecl 9:5 For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten.(nasb) Ecl 9:5 ὅτι οἱ ζῶντες γνώσονται ὅτι ἀποθανοῦνται καὶ οἱ νεκροὶ οὔκ εἰσιν γινώσκοντες οὐδέν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῖς ἔτι μισθός ὅτι ἐπελήσθη ἡ μνήμη αὐτῶν (lxx) Ecl 9:5 Viventes enim sciunt se esse morituros; mortui vero nihil noverunt amplius, nec habent ultra mercedem, quia oblivioni tradita est memoria eorum.(vulgate) Ecl 9:5 Denn die Lebendigen wissen, daß sie sterben werden; die Toten aber wissen nichts, sie haben auch keinen Lohn mehr, denn ihr Gedächtnis ist vergessen,(dhs) Ecl 9:5 For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing, And they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:6 ============ Ecl 9:6 Indeed their love, their hate and their zeal have already perished, and they will no longer have a share in all that is done under the sun.(nasb) Ecl 9:6 καί γε ἀγάπη αὐτῶν καί γε μῖσος αὐτῶν καί γε ζῆλος αὐτῶν ἤδη ἀπώλετο καὶ μερὶς οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῖς ἔτι εἰς αἰῶνα ἐν παντὶ τῷ πεποιημένῳ ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον (lxx) Ecl 9:6 Amor quoque, et odium, et invidiæ simul perierunt; nec habent partem in hoc sæculo, et in opere quod sub sole geritur.(vulgate) Ecl 9:6 daß man sie nicht mehr liebt noch haßt noch neidet, und haben kein Teil mehr auf dieser Welt an allem, was unter der Sonne geschieht.(dhs) Ecl 9:6 Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished; Nevermore will they have a share In anything done under the sun.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:7 ============ Ecl 9:7 Go then, eat your bread in happiness and drink your wine with a cheerful heart; for God has already approved your works.(nasb) Ecl 9:7 δεῦρο φάγε ἐν εὐφροσύνῃ ἄρτον σου καὶ πίε ἐν καρδίᾳ ἀγαθῇ οἶνόν σου ὅτι ἤδη εὐδόκησεν ὁ θεὸς τὰ ποιήματά σου (lxx) Ecl 9:7 Vade ergo, et comede in lætitia panem tuum, et bibe cum gaudio vinum tuum, quia Deo placent opera tua.(vulgate) Ecl 9:7 So gehe hin und iß dein Brot mit Freuden, trink deinen Wein mit gutem Mut; denn dein Werk gefällt Gott.(dhs) Ecl 9:7 Go, eat your bread with joy, And drink your wine with a merry heart; For God has already accepted your works.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:8 ============ Ecl 9:8 Let your clothes be white all the time, and let not oil be lacking on your head.(nasb) Ecl 9:8 ἐν παντὶ καιρῷ ἔστωσαν ἱμάτιά σου λευκά καὶ ἔλαιον ἐπὶ κεφαλήν σου μὴ ὑστερησάτω (lxx) Ecl 9:8 Omni tempore sint vestimenta tua candida, et oleum de capite tuo non deficiat.(vulgate) Ecl 9:8 Laß deine Kleider immer weiß sein und laß deinem Haupt Salbe nicht mangeln.(dhs) Ecl 9:8 Let your garments always be white, And let your head lack no oil.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:9 ============ Ecl 9:9 Enjoy life with the woman whom you love all the days of your fleeting life which He has given to you under the sun; for this is your reward in life and in your toil in which you have labored under the sun.(nasb) Ecl 9:9 ἰδὲ ζωὴν μετὰ γυναικός ἧς ἠγάπησας πάσας ἡμέρας ζωῆς ματαιότητός σου τὰς δοθείσας σοι ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον πάσας ἡμέρας ματαιότητός σου ὅτι αὐτὸ μερίς σου ἐν τῇ ζωῇ σου καὶ ἐν τῷ μόχθῳ σου ᾧ σὺ μοχθεῖς ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον (lxx) Ecl 9:9 Perfruere vinum cum uxore quam diligis, cunctis diebus vitæ instabilitatis tuæ, qui dati sunt tibi sub sole omni tempore vanitatis tuæ: hæc est enim pars in vita et in labore tuo quo laboras sub sole.(vulgate) Ecl 9:9 Brauche das Leben mit deinem Weibe, das du liebhast, solange du das eitle Leben hast, das dir Gott unter der Sonne gegeben hat, solange dein eitel Leben währt; denn das ist dein Teil im Leben und in deiner Arbeit, die du tust unter der Sonne.(dhs) Ecl 9:9 Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity; for that is your portion in life, and in the labor which you perform under the sun.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:10 ============ Ecl 9:10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no activity or planning or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol where you are going.(nasb) Ecl 9:10 πάντα ὅσα ἂν εὕρῃ ἡ χείρ σου τοῦ ποιῆσαι ὡς ἡ δύναμίς σου ποίησον ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ποίημα καὶ λογισμὸς καὶ γνῶσις καὶ σοφία ἐν ᾅδῃ ὅπου σὺ πορεύῃ ἐκεῖ (lxx) Ecl 9:10 Quodcumque facere potest manus tua, instanter operare, quia nec opus, nec ratio, nec sapientia, nec scientia erunt apud inferos, quo tu properas.]~(vulgate) Ecl 9:10 Alles, was dir vor Handen kommt, zu tun, das tue frisch; denn bei den Toten, dahin du fährst, ist weder Werk, Kunst, Vernunft noch Weisheit.(dhs) Ecl 9:10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:11 ============ Ecl 9:11 I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning nor favor to men of ability; for time and chance overtake them all.(nasb) Ecl 9:11 ἐπέστρεψα καὶ εἶδον ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ὅτι οὐ τοῖς κούφοις ὁ δρόμος καὶ οὐ τοῖς δυνατοῖς ὁ πόλεμος καί γε οὐ τοῖς σοφοῖς ἄρτος καί γε οὐ τοῖς συνετοῖς πλοῦτος καί γε οὐ τοῖς γινώσκουσιν χάρις ὅτι καιρὸς καὶ ἀπάντημα συναντήσεται τοῖς πᾶσιν αὐτοῖς (lxx) Ecl 9:11 [Verti me ad aliud, et vidi sub sole nec velocium esse cursum, nec fortium bellum, nec sapientium panem, nec doctorum divitias, nec artificum gratiam; sed tempus casumque in omnibus.(vulgate) Ecl 9:11 Ich wandte mich und sah, wie es unter der Sonne zugeht, daß zum Laufen nicht hilft schnell zu sein, zum Streit hilft nicht stark sein, zur Nahrung hilft nicht geschickt sein, zum Reichtum hilft nicht klug sein; daß einer angenehm sei, dazu hilft nicht, daß er ein Ding wohl kann; sondern alles liegt an Zeit und Glück.(dhs) Ecl 9:11 I returned and saw under the sun that-- The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:12 ============ Ecl 9:12 Moreover, man does not know his time: like fish caught in a treacherous net and birds trapped in a snare, so the sons of men are ensnared at an evil time when it suddenly falls on them.(nasb) Ecl 9:12 ὅτι καί γε οὐκ ἔγνω ὁ ἄνθρωπος τὸν καιρὸν αὐτοῦ ὡς οἱ ἰχθύες οἱ θηρευόμενοι ἐν ἀμφιβλήστρῳ κακῷ καὶ ὡς ὄρνεα τὰ θηρευόμενα ἐν παγίδι ὡς αὐτὰ παγιδεύονται οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου εἰς καιρὸν πονηρόν ὅταν ἐπιπέσῃ ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς ἄφνω (lxx) Ecl 9:12 Nescit homo finem suum; sed sicut pisces capiuntur hamo, et sicut aves laqueo comprehenduntur, sic capiuntur homines in tempore malo, cum eis extemplo supervenerit.(vulgate) Ecl 9:12 Auch weiß der Mensch seine Zeit nicht; sondern, wie die Fische gefangen werden mit einem verderblichen Haken, und wie die Vögel mit einem Strick gefangen werden, so werden auch die Menschen berückt zur bösen Zeit, wenn sie plötzlich über sie fällt.(dhs) Ecl 9:12 For man also does not know his time: Like fish taken in a cruel net, Like birds caught in a snare, So the sons of men are snared in an evil time, When it falls suddenly upon them.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:13 ============ Ecl 9:13 Also this I came to see as wisdom under the sun, and it impressed me.(nasb) Ecl 9:13 καί γε τοῦτο εἶδον σοφίαν ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον καὶ μεγάλη ἐστὶν πρός με (lxx) Ecl 9:13 Hanc quoque sub sole vidi sapientiam, et probavi maximam:(vulgate) Ecl 9:13 Ich habe auch diese Weisheit gesehen unter der Sonne, die mich groß deuchte:(dhs) Ecl 9:13 This wisdom I have also seen under the sun, and it seemed great to me:(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:14 ============ Ecl 9:14 There was a small city with few men in it and a great king came to it, surrounded it and constructed large siegeworks against it.(nasb) Ecl 9:14 πόλις μικρὰ καὶ ἄνδρες ἐν αὐτῇ ὀλίγοι καὶ ἔλθῃ ἐπ᾽ αὐτὴν βασιλεὺς μέγας καὶ κυκλώσῃ αὐτὴν καὶ οἰκοδομήσῃ ἐπ᾽ αὐτὴν χάρακας μεγάλους (lxx) Ecl 9:14 civitas parva, et pauci in ea viri; venit contra eam rex magnus, et vallavit eam, exstruxitque munitiones per gyrum, et perfecta est obsidio.(vulgate) Ecl 9:14 daß eine kleine Stadt war und wenig Leute darin, und kam ein großer König und belagerte sie und baute große Bollwerke darum,(dhs) Ecl 9:14 There was a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great snares around it.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:15 ============ Ecl 9:15 But there was found in it a poor wise man and he delivered the city by his wisdom. Yet no one remembered that poor man.(nasb) Ecl 9:15 καὶ εὕρῃ ἐν αὐτῇ ἄνδρα πένητα σοφόν καὶ διασώσει αὐτὸς τὴν πόλιν ἐν τῇ σοφίᾳ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἄνθρωπος οὐκ ἐμνήσθη σὺν τοῦ ἀνδρὸς τοῦ πένητος ἐκείνου (lxx) Ecl 9:15 Inventusque est in ea vir pauper et sapiens, et liberavit urbem per sapientiam suam; et nullus deinceps recordatus est hominis illius pauperis.(vulgate) Ecl 9:15 und ward darin gefunden ein armer, weiser Mann, der errettete dieselbe Stadt durch seine Weisheit; und kein Mensch gedachte desselben armen Mannes.(dhs) Ecl 9:15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that same poor man.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:16 ============ Ecl 9:16 So I said, "Wisdom is better than strength." But the wisdom of the poor man is despised and his words are not heeded.(nasb) Ecl 9:16 καὶ εἶπα ἐγώ ἀγαθὴ σοφία ὑπὲρ δύναμιν καὶ σοφία τοῦ πένητος ἐξουδενωμένη καὶ λόγοι αὐτοῦ οὔκ εἰσιν ἀκουόμενοι (lxx) Ecl 9:16 Et dicebam ego meliorem esse sapientiam fortitudine. Quomodo ergo sapientia pauperis contempta est, et verba ejus non sunt audita?(vulgate) Ecl 9:16 Da sprach ich: "Weisheit ist ja besser den Stärke; doch wird des Armen Weisheit verachtet und seinen Worten nicht gehorcht."(dhs) Ecl 9:16 Then I said: "Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, And his words are not heard.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:17 ============ Ecl 9:17 The words of the wise heard in quietness are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools.(nasb) Ecl 9:17 λόγοι σοφῶν ἐν ἀναπαύσει ἀκούονται ὑπὲρ κραυγὴν ἐξουσιαζόντων ἐν ἀφροσύναις (lxx) Ecl 9:17 Verba sapientium audiuntur in silentio, plus quam clamor principis inter stultos.(vulgate) Ecl 9:17 Der Weisen Worte, in Stille vernommen, sind besser denn der Herren Schreien unter den Narren.(dhs) Ecl 9:17 Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard Rather than the shout of a ruler of fools.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 9:18 ============ Ecl 9:18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.(nasb) Ecl 9:18 ἀγαθὴ σοφία ὑπὲρ σκεύη πολέμου καὶ ἁμαρτάνων εἷς ἀπολέσει ἀγαθωσύνην πολλήν (lxx) Ecl 9:18 Melior est sapientia quam arma bellica; et qui in uno peccaverit, multa bona perdet.](vulgate) Ecl 9:18 Weisheit ist besser denn Harnisch; aber eine einziger Bube verderbt viel Gutes.(dhs) Ecl 9:18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war; But one sinner destroys much good."(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 10:1 ============ top of the page
