Today's Date: ======= Hebrews 7:1 ============ Heb 7:1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,(nasb) Heb 7:1 οὖτος γὰρ ὁ μελχισέδεκ, βασιλεὺς σαλήμ, ἱερεὺς τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου, ὁ συναντήσας ἀβραὰμ ὑποστρέφοντι ἀπὸ τῆς κοπῆς τῶν βασιλέων καὶ εὐλογήσας αὐτόν,(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:1 Hic enim Melchisedech, rex Salem, sacerdos Dei summi, qui obviavit Abrahæ regresso a cæde regum, et benedixit ei:(vulgate) Heb 7:1 Dieser Melchisedek aber war ein König von Salem, ein Priester Gottes, des Allerhöchsten, der Abraham entgegenging, da er von der Könige Schlacht wiederkam, und segnete ihn;(dhs) Heb 7:1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:2 ============ Heb 7:2 to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth part of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace.(nasb) Heb 7:2 ᾧ καὶ δεκάτην ἀπὸ πάντων ἐμέρισεν ἀβραάμ, πρῶτον μὲν ἑρμηνευόμενος βασιλεὺς δικαιοσύνης ἔπειτα δὲ καὶ βασιλεὺς σαλήμ, ὅ ἐστιν βασιλεὺς εἰρήνης,(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:2 cui et decimas omnium divisit Abraham: primum quidem qui interpretatur rex justitiæ: deinde autem et rex Salem, quod est, rex pacis,(vulgate) Heb 7:2 welchem auch Abraham gab den Zehnten aller Güter. Aufs erste wird er verdolmetscht: ein König der Gerechtigkeit; darnach aber ist er auch ein König Salems, das ist: ein König des Friedens;(dhs) Heb 7:2 to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated "king of righteousness," and then also king of Salem, meaning "king of peace,"(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:3 ============ Heb 7:3 Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually.(nasb) Heb 7:3 ἀπάτωρ, ἀμήτωρ, ἀγενεαλόγητος, μήτε ἀρχὴν ἡμερῶν μήτε ζωῆς τέλος ἔχων, ἀφωμοιωμένος δὲ τῶ υἱῶ τοῦ θεοῦ, μένει ἱερεὺς εἰς τὸ διηνεκές.(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:3 sine patre, sine matre, sine genealogia, neque initium dierum, neque finem vitæ habens, assimilatus autem Filio Dei, manet sacerdos in perpetuum.~(vulgate) Heb 7:3 ohne Vater, ohne Mutter, ohne Geschlecht und hat weder Anfang der Tage noch Ende des Lebens: er ist aber verglichen dem Sohn Gottes und bleibt continually.(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:4 ============ Heb 7:4 Now observe how great this man was to whom Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth of the choicest spoils.(nasb) Heb 7:4 θεωρεῖτε δὲ πηλίκος οὖτος ᾧ [καὶ] δεκάτην ἀβραὰμ ἔδωκεν ἐκ τῶν ἀκροθινίων ὁ πατριάρχης.(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:4 Intuemini autem quantus sit hic, cui et decimas dedit de præcipuis Abraham patriarcha.(vulgate) Heb 7:4 Schauet aber, wie groß ist der, dem auch Abraham, der Patriarch, den Zehnten gibt von der eroberten Beute!(dhs) Heb 7:4 Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils.(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:5 ============ Heb 7:5 And those indeed of the sons of Levi who receive the priest's office have commandment in the Law to collect a tenth from the people, that is, from their brethren, although these are descended from Abraham.(nasb) Heb 7:5 καὶ οἱ μὲν ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν λευὶ τὴν ἱερατείαν λαμβάνοντες ἐντολὴν ἔχουσιν ἀποδεκατοῦν τὸν λαὸν κατὰ τὸν νόμον, τοῦτ᾽ ἔστιν τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτῶν, καίπερ ἐξεληλυθότας ἐκ τῆς ὀσφύος ἀβραάμ·(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:5 Et quidem de filiis Levi sacerdotium accipientes, mandatum habent decimas sumere a populo secundum legem, id est, a fratribus suis: quamquam et ipsi exierint de lumbis Abrahæ.(vulgate) Heb 7:5 Zwar die Kinder Levi, die das Priestertum empfangen, haben ein Gebot, den Zehnten vom Volk, das ist von ihren Brüdern, zu nehmen nach dem Gesetz, wiewohl auch diese aus den Lenden Abrahams gekommen sind.(dhs) Heb 7:5 And indeed those who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to receive tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they have come from the loins of Abraham;(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:6 ============ Heb 7:6 But the one whose genealogy is not traced from them collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed the one who had the promises.(nasb) Heb 7:6 ὁ δὲ μὴ γενεαλογούμενος ἐξ αὐτῶν δεδεκάτωκεν ἀβραάμ, καὶ τὸν ἔχοντα τὰς ἐπαγγελίας εὐλόγηκεν.(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:6 Cujus autem generatio non annumeratur in eis, decimas sumpsit ab Abraham, et hunc, qui habebat repromissiones, benedixit.(vulgate) Heb 7:6 Aber der, des Geschlecht nicht genannt wird unter ihnen, der nahm den Zehnten von Abraham und segnete den, der die Verheißungen hatte.(dhs) Heb 7:6 but he whose genealogy is not derived from them received tithes tithes, but in that case one receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives on.(nasb) Heb 7:8 καὶ ὧδε μὲν δεκάτας ἀποθνῄσκοντες ἄνθρωποι λαμβάνουσιν, ἐκεῖ δὲ μαρτυρούμενος ὅτι ζῇ.(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:8 Et hic quidem, decimas morientes homines accipiunt: ibi autem contestatur, quia vivit.(vulgate) Heb 7:8 und hier nehmen die Zehnten die sterbenden Menschen, aber dort einer, dem bezeugt wird, πατρὸς ἦν ὅτε συνήντησεν αὐτῶ μελχισέδεκ.(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:10 adhuc enim in lumbis patris erat, quando obviavit ei Melchisedech.~(vulgate) Heb 7:10 denn er war ja noch in den Lenden des Vaters, da Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the people received the Law), what further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be designated according to the order of Aaron?(nasb) Heb 7:11 εἰ μὲν οὗν τελείωσις διὰ τῆς λευιτικῆς ἱερωσύνης ἦν, ὁ λαὸς γὰρ ἐπ᾽ αὐτῆς νενομοθέτηται, τίς ἔτι χρεία κατὰ τὴν τάξιν μελχισέδεκ ἕτερον ἀνίστασθαι ἱερέα καὶ οὐ κατὰ τὴν τάξιν ἀαρὼν λέγεσθαι;(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:11 Si ergo consummatio per sacerdotium Leviticum erat (populus enim sub ipso legem accepit) quid adhuc necessarium fuit secundum ordinem Melchisedech, alium surgere sacerdotem, et non secundum ordinem Aaron dici?(vulgate) Heb 7:11 Ist nun die Vollkommenheit durch das levitische Priestertum geschehen (denn unter demselben hat das Volk das Gesetz empfangen), was ist denn weiter not zu sagen, daß ein anderer Priester aufkommen solle nach der Ordnung Melchisedeks und nicht nach der Ordnung Aarons?(dhs) Heb 7:11 Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be called according to the order of Aaron?(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:12 ============ Heb 7:12 For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also.(nasb) Heb 7:12 ============ Heb 7:13 For the one concerning whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar.(nasb) Heb 7:13 ἐφ᾽ ὃν γὰρ λέγεται ταῦτα φυλῆς ἑτέρας μετέσχηκεν, ἀφ᾽ ἧς οὐδεὶς προσέσχηκεν τῶ θυσιαστηρίῳ·(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:13 In quo enim hæc dicuntur, de alia tribu est, de qua nullus altari præsto fuit.(vulgate) Heb 7:13 Denn von dem solches priests.(nasb) Heb 7:14 πρόδηλον γὰρ ὅτι ἐξ ἰούδα ἀνατέταλκεν ὁ κύριος ἡμῶν, εἰς ἣν φυλὴν περὶ ἱερέων οὐδὲν μωϊσῆς ἐλάλησεν.(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:14 Manifestum est enim quod ex Juda ortus sit Dominus noster: in qua tribu nihil de sacerdotibus Moyses locutus est.(vulgate) Heb 7:14 Denn es ist offenbar, daß von Juda aufgegangen ist unser HERR, zu welchem Geschlecht Mose nichts geredet hat vom clearer still, if another priest arises according to the likeness of Melchizedek,(nasb) Heb 7:15 καὶ περισσότερον ἔτι κατάδηλόν ἐστιν, εἰ κατὰ τὴν ὁμοιότητα μελχισέδεκ ἀνίσταται ἱερεὺς ἕτερος,(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:15 Et amplius adhuc manifestum est: si secundum similitudinem Melchisedech exsurgat alius sacerdos,(vulgate) Heb 7:15 Und es ist noch viel klarer, so nach der Weise Melchisedeks ein andrer Priester aufkommt,(dhs) Heb 7:15 And it is yet far more evident if, in the likeness of Melchizedek, there arises another priest(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:16 ============ Heb 7:16 who has become such not on the basis of a law of physical requirement, but according to the power of an indestructible life.(nasb) Heb 7:16 ὃς οὐ κατὰ νόμον ἐντολῆς σαρκίνης γέγονεν ἀλλὰ κατὰ δύναμιν ζωῆς ἀκαταλύτου,(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:16 qui non secundum legem mandati carnalis factus est, sed secundum virtutem vitæ insolubilis.(vulgate) Heb 7:16 welcher nicht nach dem Gesetz des fleischlichen Gebots gemacht ist, sondern nach der Kraft des unendlichen Lebens.(dhs) Heb 7:16 who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life.(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:17 ============ Heb 7:17 For it is attested of Him, "YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK."(nasb) Heb 7:17 μαρτυρεῖται γὰρ ὅτι σὺ ἱερεὺς εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα κατὰ there is a setting aside of a former commandment because of its weakness and uselessness(nasb) Heb 7:18 ἀθέτησις μὲν γὰρ γίνεται προαγούσης ἐντολῆς διὰ τὸ αὐτῆς ἀσθενὲς καὶ ἀνωφελές,(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:18 Reprobatio quidem fit præcedentis mandati, propter infirmitatem ejus, et inutilitatem:(vulgate) Heb 7:18 Denn damit wird das vorige Gebot aufgehoben, darum daß es zu schwach und nicht nütze war(dhs) Heb 7:18 For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness,(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:19 ============ Heb 7:19 (for the Law made nothing perfect), and on the other hand there is a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.(nasb) Heb 7:19 οὐδὲν γὰρ ἐτελείωσεν ὁ νόμος, ἐπεισαγωγὴ δὲ κρείττονος ἐλπίδος, δι᾽ ἧς ἐγγίζομεν τῶ θεῶ.(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:19 nihil enim ad perfectum adduxit lex: introductio vero melioris spei, per quam proximamus ad Deum.(vulgate) Heb 7:19 (denn das Gesetz konnte nichts Denn jene sind ohne Eid Priester geworden,(dhs) Heb 7:20 And inasmuch as He was not made priest without an oath(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:21 ============ Heb 7:21 (for they indeed became priests without an oath, but He with an oath through the One who said to Him, "THE LORD HAS SWORN AND WILL NOT CHANGE HIS MIND, 'YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER'");(nasb) Heb 7:21 ὁ δὲ μετὰ ὁρκωμοσίας διὰ τοῦ λέγοντος πρὸς αὐτόν, ὤμοσεν κύριος, καὶ οὐ μεταμεληθήσεται, σὺ ἱερεὺς εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα,(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:21 hic autem cum jurejurando per eum, qui dixit ad illum: Juravit Dominus, et non pœnitebit eum: tu es sacerdos in æternum):(vulgate) Heb 7:21 dieser aber mit dem Eid, durch den, der zu ihm spricht: "Der HERR hat geschworen, und es wird ihn nicht gereuen: Du bist ein Priester in Ewigkeit nach der Ordnung Melchisedeks."(dhs) Heb 7:21 (for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him who said to Him: "The Lord has sworn And will not relent, 'You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek' "),(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:22 ============ Heb 7:22 so much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.(nasb) Heb 7:22 κατὰ τοσοῦτο [καὶ] κρείττονος διαθήκης γέγονεν ἔγγυος ἰησοῦς.(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:22 in tantum melioris testamenti sponsor factus est Jesus.(vulgate) Heb 7:22 Also eines so viel besseren Testaments Ausrichter ist Jesus geworden.(dhs) Heb 7:22 by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:23 ============ Heb 7:23 The former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing,(nasb) Heb 7:23 καὶ οἱ μὲν πλείονές εἰσιν γεγονότες ἱερεῖς διὰ τὸ θανάτῳ κωλύεσθαι παραμένειν·(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:23 Et alii quidem plures facti sunt sacerdotes, idcirco quod morte prohiberentur permanere:(vulgate) Heb 7:23 Und jener sind viele, die Priester wurden, darum daß sie der Tod nicht bleiben ließ;(dhs) Heb 7:23 Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing.(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:24 ============ Heb 7:24 but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently.(nasb) Heb 7:24 ὁ δὲ διὰ τὸ μένειν αὐτὸν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ἀπαράβατον ἔχει τὴν ἱερωσύνην·(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:24 hic autem eo quod maneat in æternum, sempiternum habet sacerdotium.(vulgate) Heb 7:24 dieser aber hat darum, daß er ewiglich bleibt, ein unvergängliches Priestertum.(dhs) Heb 7:24 But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood.(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:25 ============ Heb 7:25 Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.(nasb) Heb 7:25 ὅθεν καὶ σῴζειν εἰς τὸ παντελὲς δύναται τοὺς προσερχομένους δι᾽ αὐτοῦ τῶ θεῶ, πάντοτε ζῶν εἰς τὸ ἐντυγχάνειν ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν.(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:25 Unde et salvare in perpetuum potest accedentes per semetipsum ad Deum: semper vivens ad interpellandum pro nobis.(vulgate) Heb 7:25 Daher kann er auch selig machen immerdar, die durch ihn zu Gott kommen, und lebt immerdar und bittet für sie.(dhs) Heb 7:25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:26 ============ Heb 7:26 For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens;(nasb) Heb 7:26 τοιοῦτος γὰρ ἡμῖν καὶ ἔπρεπεν ἀρχιερεύς, ὅσιος, ἄκακος, ἀμίαντος, κεχωρισμένος ἀπὸ τῶν ἁμαρτωλῶν, καὶ ὑψηλότερος τῶν οὐρανῶν γενόμενος·(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:26 Talis enim decebat ut nobis esset pontifex, sanctus, innocens, impollutus, segregatus a peccatoribus, et excelsior cælis factus:(vulgate) Heb 7:26 Denn einen solchen Hohenpriester sollten wir haben, der da wäre heilig, unschuldig, unbefleckt, von den Sünden abgesondert und höher, denn der Himmel ist;(dhs) Heb 7:26 For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens;(nkjv) ======= Hebrews 7:27 ============ Heb 7:27 who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.(nasb) Heb 7:27 ὃς οὐκ ἔχει καθ᾽ ἡμέραν ἀνάγκην, ὥσπερ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς, πρότερον ὑπὲρ τῶν ἰδίων ἁμαρτιῶν θυσίας ἀναφέρειν, ἔπειτα τῶν τοῦ λαοῦ· τοῦτο γὰρ ἐποίησεν ἐφάπαξ ἑαυτὸν ἀνενέγκας.(Nestle-Aland) Heb 7:27 qui non habet necessitatem quotidie, quemadmodum sacerdotes, prius pro suis delictis hostias offerre, deinde pro populi: hoc enim fecit semel, seipsum offerendo.(vulgate) Heb 7:27 dem nicht täglich not wäre, wie jenen Hohenpriestern, zuerst für eigene Sünden Opfer zu tun, darnach für des Volkes Sünden;
