Today's Date: ======= James 2:1 ============ Jas 2:1 My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism.(nasb) Jas 2:1 ἀδελφοί μου, μὴ ἐν προσωπολημψίαις ἔχετε τὴν πίστιν τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ τῆς δόξης.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:1 Fratres mei, nolite in personarum acceptione habere fidem Domini nostri Jesu Christi gloriæ.(vulgate) Jas 2:1 Liebe Brüder, haltet nicht dafür, daß der Glaube an Jesum Christum, unsern HERRN der Herrlichkeit, Ansehung der Person leide.(dhs) Jam 2:1 My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality.(nkjv) ======= James 2:2 ============ Jas 2:2 For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes,(nasb) Jas 2:2 ἐὰν γὰρ εἰσέλθῃ εἰς συναγωγὴν ὑμῶν ἀνὴρ χρυσοδακτύλιος ἐν ἐσθῆτι λαμπρᾷ, εἰσέλθῃ δὲ καὶ πτωχὸς ἐν ῥυπαρᾷ ἐσθῆτι,(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:2 Etenim si introierit in conventum vestrum vir aureum annulum habens in veste candida, introierit autem et pauper in sordido habitu,(vulgate) Jas 2:2 Denn so in eure Versammlung käme ein Mann mit einem goldenen Ringe und mit einem herrlichen Kleide, es käme aber auch ein Armer in einem unsauberen Kleide,(dhs) Jam 2:2 For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes,(nkjv) ======= James 2:3 ============ Jas 2:3 and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, "You sit here in a good place," and you say to the poor man, "You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,"(nasb) Jas 2:3 ἐπιβλέψητε δὲ ἐπὶ τὸν φοροῦντα τὴν ἐσθῆτα τὴν λαμπρὰν καὶ εἴπητε, σὺ κάθου ὧδε καλῶς, καὶ τῶ πτωχῶ εἴπητε, σὺ στῆθι ἐκεῖ ἢ κάθου ὑπὸ τὸ ὑποπόδιόν μου,(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:3 et intendatis in eum qui indutus est veste præclara, et dixeritis ei: Tu sede hic bene: pauperi autem dicatis: Tu sta illic; aut sede sub scabello pedum meorum:(vulgate) Jas 2:3 und ihr sähet auf den, der das herrliche Kleid trägt, und sprächet zu ihm: Setze du dich her aufs beste! und sprächet zu dem Armen: Stehe du dort! oder setze dich her zu meinen Füßen!(dhs) Jam 2:3 and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, "You sit here in a good place," and say to the poor man, "You stand there," or, "Sit here at my footstool,"(nkjv) ======= James 2:4 ============ Jas 2:4 have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives?(nasb) Jas 2:4 οὐ διεκρίθητε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς καὶ ἐγένεσθε κριταὶ διαλογισμῶν πονηρῶν;(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:4 nonne judicatis apud vosmetipsos, et facti estis judices cogitationum iniquarum?(vulgate) Jas 2:4 ist's recht, daß ihr solchen Unterschied bei euch selbst macht und richtet nach argen Gedanken?(dhs) Jam 2:4 have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?(nkjv) ======= James 2:5 ============ Jas 2:5 Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?(nasb) Jas 2:5 ἀκούσατε, ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί. οὐχ ὁ θεὸς ἐξελέξατο τοὺς πτωχοὺς τῶ κόσμῳ πλουσίους ἐν πίστει καὶ κληρονόμους τῆς βασιλείας ἧς ἐπηγγείλατο τοῖς ἀγαπῶσιν αὐτόν;(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:5 Audite, fratres mei dilectissimi: nonne Deus elegit pauperes in hoc mundo, divites in fide, et hæredes regni, quod repromisit Deus diligentibus se?(vulgate) Jas 2:5 Höret zu, meine lieben Brüder! Hat nicht Gott erwählt die Armen auf dieser Welt, die am Glauben reich sind und Erben des Reichs, welches er verheißen hat denen, die ihn liebhaben?(dhs) Jam 2:5 Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?(nkjv) ======= James 2:6 ============ Jas 2:6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court?(nasb) Jas 2:6 ὑμεῖς δὲ ἠτιμάσατε τὸν πτωχόν. οὐχ οἱ πλούσιοι καταδυναστεύουσιν ὑμῶν, καὶ αὐτοὶ ἕλκουσιν ὑμᾶς εἰς κριτήρια;(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:6 vos autem exhonorastis pauperem. Nonne divites per potentiam opprimunt vos, et ipsi trahunt vos ad judicia?(vulgate) Jas 2:6 Ihr aber habt dem Armen Unehre getan. Sind nicht die Reichen die, die Gewalt an euch üben und ziehen euch vor Gericht?(dhs) Jam 2:6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts?(nkjv) ======= James 2:7 ============ Jas 2:7 Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called?(nasb) Jas 2:7 οὐκ αὐτοὶ βλασφημοῦσιν τὸ καλὸν ὄνομα τὸ ἐπικληθὲν ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς;(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:7 nonne ipsi blasphemant bonum nomen, quod invocatum est super vos?(vulgate) Jas 2:7 Verlästern sie nicht den guten Namen, nach dem ihr genannt seid?(dhs) Jam 2:7 Do they not blaspheme that noble name by which you are called?(nkjv) ======= James 2:8 ============ Jas 2:8 If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF," you are doing well.(nasb) Jas 2:8 εἰ μέντοι νόμον τελεῖτε βασιλικὸν κατὰ τὴν γραφήν, ἀγαπήσεις τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν, καλῶς ποιεῖτε·(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:8 Si tamen legem perficitis regalem secundum Scripturas: Diliges proximum tuum sicut teipsum: bene facitis:(vulgate) Jas 2:8 So ihr das königliche Gesetz erfüllet nach der Schrift: "Liebe deinen Nächsten wie dich selbst," so tut ihr wohl;(dhs) Jam 2:8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well;(nkjv) ======= James 2:9 ============ Jas 2:9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.(nasb) Jas 2:9 εἰ δὲ προσωπολημπτεῖτε, ἁμαρτίαν ἐργάζεσθε, ἐλεγχόμενοι ὑπὸ τοῦ νόμου ὡς παραβάται.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:9 si autem personas accipitis, peccatum operamini, redarguti a lege quasi transgressores.(vulgate) Jas 2:9 so ihr aber die Person ansehet, tut ihr Sünde und werdet überführt vom Gesetz als Übertreter.(dhs) Jam 2:9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.(nkjv) ======= James 2:10 ============ Jas 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.(nasb) Jas 2:10 ὅστις γὰρ ὅλον τὸν νόμον τηρήσῃ, πταίσῃ δὲ ἐν ἑνί, γέγονεν πάντων ἔνοχος.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:10 Quicumque autem totam legem servaverit, offendat autem in uno, factus est omnium reus.(vulgate) Jas 2:10 Denn so jemand das ganze Gesetz hält und sündigt an einem, der ist's ganz schuldig.(dhs) Jam 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.(nkjv) ======= James 2:11 ============ Jas 2:11 For He who said, "DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY," also said, "DO NOT COMMIT MURDER." Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.(nasb) Jas 2:11 ὁ γὰρ εἰπών, μὴ μοιχεύσῃς, εἶπεν καί, μὴ φονεύσῃς· εἰ δὲ οὐ μοιχεύεις, φονεύεις δέ, γέγονας παραβάτης νόμου.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:11 Qui enim dixit: Non mœchaberis, dixit et: Non occides. Quod si non mœchaberis, occides autem, factus es transgressor legis.(vulgate) Jas 2:11 Denn der da gesagt hat: "Du sollst nicht ehebrechen," der hat auch gesagt: "Du sollst nicht töten." So du nun nicht ehebrichst, tötest aber, bist du ein Übertreter des Gesetzes.(dhs) Jam 2:11 For He who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not murder." Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.(nkjv) ======= James 2:12 ============ Jas 2:12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty.(nasb) Jas 2:12 οὕτως λαλεῖτε καὶ οὕτως ποιεῖτε ὡς διὰ νόμου ἐλευθερίας μέλλοντες κρίνεσθαι.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:12 Sic loquimini, et sic facite sicut per legem libertatis incipientes judicari.(vulgate) Jas 2:12 Also redet und also tut, als die da sollen durchs Gesetz der Freiheit gerichtet werden.(dhs) Jam 2:12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty.(nkjv) ======= James 2:13 ============ Jas 2:13 For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.(nasb) Jas 2:13 ἡ γὰρ κρίσις ἀνέλεος τῶ μὴ ποιήσαντι ἔλεος· κατακαυχᾶται ἔλεος κρίσεως.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:13 Judicium enim sine misericordia illi qui non fecit misericordiam: superexaltat autem misericordia judicium.~(vulgate) Jas 2:13 Es wird aber ein unbarmherziges Gericht über den ergehen, der nicht Barmherzigkeit getan hat; und die Barmherzigkeit rühmt sich wider das Gericht.(dhs) Jam 2:13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.(nkjv) ======= James 2:14 ============ Jas 2:14 What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?(nasb) Jas 2:14 τί τὸ ὄφελος, ἀδελφοί μου, ἐὰν πίστιν λέγῃ τις ἔχειν, ἔργα δὲ μὴ ἔχῃ; μὴ δύναται ἡ πίστις σῶσαι αὐτόν;(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:14 Quid proderit, fratres mei, si fidem quis dicat se habere, opera autem non habeat? numquid poterit fides salvare eum?(vulgate) Jas 2:14 Was hilfst, liebe Brüder, so jemand sagt, er habe den Glauben, und hat doch die Werke nicht? Kann auch der Glaube ihn selig machen?(dhs) Jam 2:14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?(nkjv) ======= James 2:15 ============ Jas 2:15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food,(nasb) Jas 2:15 ἐὰν ἀδελφὸς ἢ ἀδελφὴ γυμνοὶ ὑπάρχωσιν καὶ λειπόμενοι τῆς ἐφημέρου τροφῆς,(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:15 Si autem frater et soror nudi sint, et indigeant victu quotidiano,(vulgate) Jas 2:15 So aber ein Bruder oder eine Schwester bloß wäre und Mangel hätte der täglichen Nahrung,(dhs) Jam 2:15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,(nkjv) ======= James 2:16 ============ Jas 2:16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?(nasb) Jas 2:16 εἴπῃ δέ τις αὐτοῖς ἐξ ὑμῶν, ὑπάγετε ἐν εἰρήνῃ, θερμαίνεσθε καὶ χορτάζεσθε, μὴ δῶτε δὲ αὐτοῖς τὰ ἐπιτήδεια τοῦ σώματος, τί τὸ ὄφελος;(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:16 dicat autem aliquis ex vobis illis: Ite in pace, calefacimini et saturamini: non dederitis autem eis quæ necessaria sunt corpori, quid proderit?(vulgate) Jas 2:16 und jemand unter euch spräche zu ihnen: Gott berate euch, wärmet euch und sättiget euch! ihr gäbet ihnen aber nicht, was des Leibes Notdurft ist: was hülfe ihnen das?(dhs) Jam 2:16 and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?(nkjv) ======= James 2:17 ============ Jas 2:17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.(nasb) Jas 2:17 οὕτως καὶ ἡ πίστις, ἐὰν μὴ ἔχῃ ἔργα, νεκρά ἐστιν καθ᾽ ἑαυτήν.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:17 Sic et fides, si non habeat opera, mortua est in semetipsa.(vulgate) Jas 2:17 Also auch der Glaube, wenn er nicht Werke hat, ist er tot an ihm selber.(dhs) Jam 2:17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.(nkjv) ======= James 2:18 ============ Jas 2:18 But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works."(nasb) Jas 2:18 ἀλλ᾽ ἐρεῖ τις, σὺ πίστιν ἔχεις κἀγὼ ἔργα ἔχω. δεῖξόν μοι τὴν πίστιν σου χωρὶς τῶν ἔργων, κἀγώ σοι δείξω ἐκ τῶν ἔργων μου τὴν πίστιν.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 2:18 Sed dicet quis: Tu fidem habes, et ego opera habeo: ostende mihi fidem tuam sine operibus: et ego ostendam tibi ex operibus fidem meam.(vulgate) Jas 2:18 Aber es möchte jemand sagen: Du hast den Glauben, und ich habe die Werke; zeige mir deinen Glauben ohne die Werke, so will ich dir meinen Glauben zeigen aus meinen Werken.(dhs) Jam 2:18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works."
