Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members?(nasb) Jas 4:1 πόθεν πόλεμοι καὶ πόθεν μάχαι ἐν ὑμῖν; οὐκ ἐντεῦθεν, ἐκ τῶν ἡδονῶν ὑμῶν τῶν στρατευομένων ἐν τοῖς μέλεσιν ὑμῶν;(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:1 Unde bella et lites in vobis? nonne hinc: ex concupiscentiis vestris, quæ militant in membris vestris?(vulgate) Jas 4:1 Woher kommt Streit und Krieg unter euch? Kommt's nicht daher: aus euren Wollüsten, die da streiten in euren Gliedern?(dhs) Jam 4:1 Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?(nkjv) ======= James 4:2 ============ Jas 4:2 You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.(nasb) Jas 4:2 ἐπιθυμεῖτε, καὶ οὐκ ἔχετε· φονεύετε καὶ ζηλοῦτε, καὶ οὐ δύνασθε ἐπιτυχεῖν· μάχεσθε καὶ πολεμεῖτε. οὐκ ἔχετε διὰ τὸ μὴ αἰτεῖσθαι ὑμᾶς·(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:2 concupiscitis, et non habetis: occiditis, et zelatis: et non potestis adipisci: litigatis, et belligeratis, et non habetis, propter quod non postulatis.(vulgate) Jas 4:2 Ihr seid begierig, und erlanget's damit nicht; ihr hasset und neidet, und gewinnt damit nichts; ihr streitet und krieget. Ihr habt nicht, darum daß ihr nicht bittet;(dhs) Jam 4:2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask.(nkjv) ======= James 4:3 ============ Jas 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.(nasb) Jas 4:3 αἰτεῖτε καὶ οὐ λαμβάνετε, διότι κακῶς αἰτεῖσθε, ἵνα ἐν ταῖς ἡδοναῖς ὑμῶν δαπανήσητε.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:3 Petitis, et non accipitis: eo quod male petatis: ut in concupiscentiis vestris insumatis.(vulgate) Jas 4:3 ihr bittet, und nehmet nicht, darum daß ihr übel bittet, nämlich dahin, daß ihr's mit euren Wollüsten verzehrt.(dhs) Jam 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.(nkjv) ======= James 4:4 ============ Jas 4:4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.(nasb) Jas 4:4 μοιχαλίδες, οὐκ οἴδατε ὅτι ἡ φιλία τοῦ κόσμου ἔχθρα τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν; ὃς ἐὰν οὗν βουληθῇ φίλος εἶναι τοῦ κόσμου, ἐχθρὸς τοῦ θεοῦ καθίσταται.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:4 Adulteri, nescitis quia amicitia hujus mundi inimica est Dei? quicumque ergo voluerit amicus esse sæculi hujus, inimicus Dei constituitur.(vulgate) Jas 4:4 Ihr Ehebrecher und Ehebrecherinnen, wisset ihr nicht, daß der Welt Freundschaft Gottes Feindschaft ist? Wer der Welt Freund sein will, der wird Gottes Feind sein.(dhs) Jam 4:4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? "He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us"?(nasb) Jas 4:5 ἢ δοκεῖτε ὅτι κενῶς ἡ γραφὴ λέγει, πρὸς φθόνον ἐπιποθεῖ τὸ πνεῦμα ὃ κατῴκισεν ἐν ἡμῖν;(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:5 An putatis quia inaniter Scriptura dicat: Ad invidiam concupiscit spiritus qui habitat in vobis?(vulgate) Jas 4:5 Oder lasset ihr euch dünken, die Schrift sage umsonst: Der Geist, der in euch wohnt, begehrt und eifert?(dhs) Jam 4:5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously"?(nkjv) ======= James 4:6 ============ Jas 4:6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE."(nasb) Jas 4:6 μείζονα δὲ δίδωσιν χάριν· διὸ λέγει, ὁ θεὸς ὑπερηφάνοις ἀντιτάσσεται, ταπεινοῖς δὲ δίδωσιν χάριν.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:6 majorem autem dat gratiam. Propter quod dicit: Deus superbis resistit, humilibus autem dat gratiam.(vulgate) Jas 4:6 Er gibt aber desto reichlicher Gnade. Darum sagt sie: "Gott widersteht den Hoffärtigen, aber den Demütigen gibt er Gnade."(dhs) Jam 4:6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."(nkjv) ======= James 4:7 ============ Jas 4:7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.(nasb) Jas 4:7 ὑποτάγητε οὗν τῶ θεῶ· ἀντίστητε δὲ τῶ διαβόλῳ, καὶ φεύξεται ἀφ᾽ ὑμῶν·(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:7 Subditi ergo estote Deo, resistite autem diabolo, et fugiet a vobis.(vulgate) Jas 4:7 So seid nun Gott untertänig. Widerstehet dem Teufel, so flieht er von euch;(dhs) Jam 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.(nkjv) ======= James 4:8 ============ Jas 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.(nasb) Jas 4:8 ἐγγίσατε τῶ θεῶ, καὶ ἐγγιεῖ ὑμῖν. καθαρίσατε χεῖρας, ἁμαρτωλοί, καὶ ἁγνίσατε καρδίας, δίψυχοι.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:8 Appropinquate Deo, et appropinquabit vobis. Emundate manus, peccatores: et purificate corda, duplices animo.(vulgate) Jas 4:8 nahet euch zu Gott, so naht er sich zu euch. Reiniget die Hände, ihr Sünder, und macht eure Herzen keusch, ihr Wankelmütigen.(dhs) Jam 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.(nkjv) ======= James 4:9 ============ Jas 4:9 Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom.(nasb) Jas 4:9 ταλαιπωρήσατε καὶ πενθήσατε καὶ κλαύσατε· ὁ γέλως ὑμῶν εἰς πένθος μετατραπήτω καὶ ἡ χαρὰ εἰς κατήφειαν.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:9 Miseri estote, et lugete, et plorate: risus vester in luctum convertatur, et gaudium in mœrorem.(vulgate) Jas 4:9 Seid elend und traget Leid und weinet; euer Lachen verkehre sich in Weinen und eure Freude in Traurigkeit.(dhs) Jam 4:9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.(nkjv) ======= James 4:10 ============ Jas 4:10 Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.(nasb) Jas 4:10 ταπεινώθητε ἐνώπιον κυρίου, καὶ ὑψώσει ὑμᾶς.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:10 Humiliamini in conspectu Domini, et exaltabit vos.(vulgate) Jas 4:10 Demütiget euch vor Gott, so wir er euch erhöhen.(dhs) Jam 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.(nkjv) ======= James 4:11 ============ Jas 4:11 Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.(nasb) Jas 4:11 μὴ καταλαλεῖτε ἀλλήλων, ἀδελφοί· ὁ καταλαλῶν ἀδελφοῦ ἢ κρίνων τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ καταλαλεῖ νόμου καὶ κρίνει νόμον· εἰ δὲ νόμον κρίνεις, οὐκ εἶ ποιητὴς νόμου ἀλλὰ κριτής.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:11 Nolite detrahere alterutrum fratres. Qui detrahit fratri, aut qui judicat fratrem suum, detrahit legi, et judicat legem. Si autem judicas legem, non es factor legis, sed judex.(vulgate) Jas 4:11 Afterredet nicht untereinander, liebe Brüder. Wer seinem Bruder afterredet und richtet seinen Bruder, der afterredet dem Gesetz und richtet das Gesetz. Richtest du aber das Gesetz, so bist du nicht ein Täter des Gesetzes, sondern ein Richter.(dhs) Jam 4:11 Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.(nkjv) ======= James 4:12 ============ Jas 4:12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor?(nasb) Jas 4:12 εἷς ἐστιν [ὁ] νομοθέτης καὶ κριτής, ὁ δυνάμενος σῶσαι καὶ ἀπολέσαι· σὺ δὲ τίς εἶ, ὁ κρίνων τὸν πλησίον;(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:12 Unus est legislator et judex, qui potest perdere et liberare.~(vulgate) Jas 4:12 Es ist ein einiger Gesetzgeber, der kann selig machen und verdammen. Wer bist du, der du einen andern richtest?(dhs) Jam 4:12 There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?(nkjv) ======= James 4:13 ============ Jas 4:13 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit."(nasb) Jas 4:13 ἄγε νῦν οἱ λέγοντες, σήμερον ἢ αὔριον πορευσόμεθα εἰς τήνδε τὴν πόλιν καὶ ποιήσομεν ἐκεῖ ἐνιαυτὸν καὶ ἐμπορευσόμεθα καὶ κερδήσομεν·(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:13 Tu autem quis es, qui judicas proximum? Ecce nunc qui dicitis: Hodie, aut crastino ibimus in illam civitatem, et faciemus ibi quidem annum, et mercabimur, et lucrum faciemus:(vulgate) Jas 4:13 Wohlan nun, die ihr sagt: Heute oder morgen wollen wir gehen in die oder die Stadt und wollen ein Jahr da liegen und Handel treiben und gewinnen;(dhs) Jam 4:13 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit";(nkjv) ======= James 4:14 ============ Jas 4:14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.(nasb) Jas 4:14 οἵτινες οὐκ ἐπίστασθε τὸ τῆς αὔριον ποία ἡ ζωὴ ὑμῶν. ἀτμὶς γάρ ἐστε ἡ πρὸς ὀλίγον φαινομένη, ἔπειτα καὶ ἀφανιζομένη·(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:14 qui ignoratis quid erit in crastino.(vulgate) Jas 4:14 die ihr nicht wisset, was morgen sein wird. Denn was ist euer Leben? Ein Dampf ist's, der eine kleine Zeit währt, danach aber verschwindet er.(dhs) Jam 4:14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.(nkjv) ======= James 4:15 ============ Jas 4:15 Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that."(nasb) Jas 4:15 ἀντὶ τοῦ λέγειν ὑμᾶς, ἐὰν ὁ κύριος θελήσῃ, καὶ ζήσομεν καὶ ποιήσομεν τοῦτο ἢ ἐκεῖνο.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:15 Quæ est enim vita vestra? vapor est ad modicum parens, et deinceps exterminabitur; pro eo ut dicatis: Si Dominus voluerit. Et: Si vixerimus, faciemus hoc, aut illud.(vulgate) Jas 4:15 Dafür ihr sagen solltet: So der HERR will und wir leben, wollen wir dies und das tun.(dhs) Jam 4:15 Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that."(nkjv) ======= James 4:16 ============ Jas 4:16 But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil.(nasb) Jas 4:16 νῦν δὲ καυχᾶσθε ἐν ταῖς ἀλαζονείαις ὑμῶν· πᾶσα καύχησις τοιαύτη πονηρά ἐστιν.(Nestle-Aland) Jas 4:16 Nunc autem exsultatis in superbiis vestris. Omnis exsultatio talis, maligna est.(vulgate) Jas 4:16 Nun aber rühmet ihr euch in eurem Hochmut. Aller solcher Ruhm ist böse.(dhs) Jam 4:16 But now you boast in your arrogance.
