And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:2 ============ Gen 39:2 The Lord was with Joseph, so he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian.(nasb) Gen 39:2 Fuitque Dominus cum eo, et erat vir in cunctis prospere agens: habitavitque in domo domini sui,(vulgate) Génesis 39:2 Pero Jehová estaba con José, y fue un varón próspero: y estaba en la casa de su señor el egipcio.(E) Genèse 39:2 L'Eternel fut avec lui, et la prospérité l'accompagna; il habitait dans la maison de son maître, l'Egyptien.(F) Gen 39:2 Und der HERR war mit Joseph, daß er ein glücklicher Mann ward; und er war in seines Herrn, des Ägypters, Hause.(D) Gen 39:2 καὶ ἦν κύριος μετὰ Ιωσηφ καὶ ἦν ἀνὴρ ἐπιτυγχάνων καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ παρὰ τῷ κυρίῳ τῷ Αἰγυπτίῳ(lxx) Gen 39:2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:3 ============ Gen 39:3 Now his master saw that the Lord was with him and how the Lord caused all that he did to prosper in his hand.(nasb) Gen 39:3 qui optime noverat Dominum esse cum eo, et omnia, quæ gerebat, ab eo dirigi in manu illius.(vulgate) Génesis 39:3 Y vio su señor que Jehová estaba con él, y que todo lo que él hacía, Jehová lo hacía prosperar en su mano.(E) Genèse 39:3 Son maître vit que l'Eternel était avec lui, et que l'Eternel faisait prospérer entre ses mains tout ce qu'il entreprenait.(F) Gen 39:3 Und sein Herr sah, daß der HERR mit ihm war; denn alles, was er tat, dazu gab der HERR Glück durch ihn,(D) Gen 39:3 ᾔδει δὲ ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ ὅτι κύριος μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ καὶ ὅσα ἂν ποιῇ κύριος εὐοδοῖ ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτοῦ(lxx) Gen 39:3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:4 ============ Gen 39:4 So Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal servant; and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he owned he put in his charge.(nasb) Gen 39:4 Invenitque Joseph gratiam coram domino suo, et ministrabat ei: a quo præpositus omnibus gubernabat creditam sibi domum, et universa quæ ei tradita fuerant:(vulgate) Génesis 39:4 Así halló José gracia en sus ojos, y le servía; y él le hizo mayordomo de su casa, y entregó en su poder todo lo que tenía.(E) Genèse 39:4 Joseph trouva grâce aux yeux de son maître, qui l'employa à son service, l'établit sur sa maison, et lui confia tout ce qu'il possédait.(F) Gen 39:4 Also daß er Gnade fand vor seinem Herrn und sein Diener ward. Der setzte ihn über sein Haus, und alles, was er hatte, tat er unter seine Hände.(D) Gen 39:4 καὶ εὗρεν Ιωσηφ χάριν ἐναντίον τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ εὐηρέστει δὲ αὐτῷ καὶ κατέστησεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα ὅσα ἦν αὐτῷ ἔδωκεν διὰ χειρὸς Ιωσηφ(lxx) Gen 39:4 So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:5 ============ Gen 39:5 It came about that from the time he made him overseer in his house and over all that he owned, the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house on account of Joseph; thus the Lord's blessing was upon all that he owned, in the house and in the field.(nasb) Gen 39:5 benedixitque Dominus domui Ægyptii propter Joseph, et multiplicavit tam in ædibus quam in agris cunctam ejus substantiam:(vulgate) Génesis 39:5 Y aconteció que, desde cuando le dio el encargo de su casa, y de todo lo que tenía, Jehová bendijo la casa del egipcio a causa de José; y la bendición de Jehová estaba sobre todo lo que tenía, así en casa como en el campo.(E) Genèse 39:5 Dès que Potiphar l'eut établi sur sa maison et sur tout ce qu'il possédait, l'Eternel bénit la maison de l'Egyptien, à cause de Joseph; et la bénédiction de l'Eternel fut sur tout ce qui lui appartenait, soit à la maison, soit aux champs.(F) Gen 39:5 Und von der Zeit an, da er ihn über sein Haus und alle seine Güter gesetzt hatte, segnete der HERR des Ägypters Haus um Josephs willen; und war eitel Segen des HERRN in allem, was er hatte, zu Hause und auf dem Felde.(D) Gen 39:5 ἐγένετο δὲ μετὰ τὸ κατασταθῆναι αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ πάντα ὅσα ἦν αὐτῷ καὶ ηὐλόγησεν κύριος τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Αἰγυπτίου διὰ Ιωσηφ καὶ ἐγενήθη εὐλογία κυρίου ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς ὑπάρχουσιν αὐτῷ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ(lxx) Gen 39:5 So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:6 ============ Gen 39:6 So he left everything he owned in Joseph's charge; and with him there he did not concern himself with anything except the food which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.(nasb) Gen 39:6 nec quidquam aliud noverat, nisi panem quo vescebatur. Erat autem Joseph pulchra facie, et decorus aspectu.(vulgate) Génesis 39:6 Y dejó todo lo que tenía en mano de José; y él no se preocupaba de nada sino del pan que comía. Y era José de hermoso semblante y bella presencia.(E) Genèse 39:6 Il abandonna aux mains de Joseph tout ce qui lui appartenait, et il n'avait avec lui d'autre soin que celui de prendre sa nourriture. Or, Joseph était beau de taille et beau de figure.(F) Gen 39:6 Darum ließ er alles unter Josephs Händen, was er hatte, und nahm sich keines Dinges an, solange er ihn hatte, nur daß er aß und trank. Und Joseph war schön und hübsch von Angesicht.(D) Gen 39:6 καὶ ἐπέτρεψεν πάντα ὅσα ἦν αὐτῷ εἰς χεῖρας Ιωσηφ καὶ οὐκ ᾔδει τῶν καθ᾽ ἑαυτὸν οὐδὲν πλὴν τοῦ ἄρτου οὗ ἤσθιεν αὐτός καὶ ἦν Ιωσηφ καλὸς τῷ εἴδει καὶ ὡραῖος τῇ ὄψει σφόδρα(lxx) Gen 39:6 Thus he left all that he had in Joseph's hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:7 ============ Gen 39:7 It came about after these events that his master's wife looked with desire at Joseph, and she said, "Lie with me."(nasb) Gen 39:7 Post multos itaque dies injecit domina sua oculos suos in Joseph, et ait: Dormi mecum.(vulgate) Génesis 39:7 Y aconteció después de esto, que la esposa de su señor puso sus ojos en José, y dijo: Acuéstate conmigo.(E) Genèse 39:7 Après ces choses, il arriva que la femme de son maître porta les yeux sur Joseph, et dit: Couche avec moi!(F) Gen 39:7 Und es begab sich nach dieser Geschichte, daß seines Herrn Weib ihre Augen auf Joseph warf und sprach: Schlafe bei mir!(D) Gen 39:7 καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα καὶ ἐπέβαλεν ἡ γυνὴ τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῆς ἐπὶ Ιωσηφ καὶ εἶπεν κοιμήθητι μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ(lxx) Gen 39:7 And it came to pass after these things that his master's wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, "Lie with me."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:8 ============ Gen 39:8 But he refused and said to his master's wife, "Behold, with me here, my master does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has put all that he owns in my charge.(nasb) Gen 39:8 Qui nequaquam acquiescens operi nefario, dixit ad eam: Ecce dominus meus, omnibus mihi traditis, ignorat quid habeat in domo sua:(vulgate) Génesis 39:8 Y él no quiso, y dijo a la esposa de su señor: He aquí que mi señor no sabe conmigo lo que hay en casa, y ha puesto en mi mano todo lo que tiene:(E) Genèse 39:8 Il refusa, et dit à la femme de son maître: Voici, mon maître ne prend avec moi connaissance de rien dans la maison, et il a remis entre mes mains tout ce qui lui appartient.(F) Gen 39:8 Er weigerte sich aber und sprach zu ihr: Siehe, mein Herr nimmt sich keines Dinges an vor mir, was im Hause ist, und alles, was er hat, das hat er unter meine Hände getan,(D) Gen 39:8 ὁ δὲ οὐκ ἤθελεν εἶπεν δὲ τῇ γυναικὶ τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ εἰ ὁ κύριός μου οὐ γινώσκει δι᾽ ἐμὲ οὐδὲν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα ὅσα ἐστὶν αὐτῷ ἔδωκεν εἰς τὰς χεῖράς μου(lxx) Gen 39:8 But he refused and said to his master's wife, "Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:9 ============ Gen 39:9 There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil and sin against God?"(nasb) Gen 39:9 nec quidquam est quod non in mea sit potestate, vel non tradiderit mihi, præter te, quæ uxor ejus es: quomodo ergo possum hoc malum facere, et peccare in Deum meum?(vulgate) Génesis 39:9 No hay otro mayor que yo en esta casa, y ninguna cosa me ha reservado sino a ti, por cuanto tú eres su esposa; ¿cómo, pues, haría yo este grande mal y pecaría contra Dios?(E) Genèse 39:9 Il n'est pas plus grand que moi dans cette maison, et il ne m'a rien interdit, excepté toi, parce que tu es sa femme. Comment ferais-je un aussi grand mal et pécherais-je contre Dieu?(F) Gen 39:9 und hat nichts so Großes in dem Hause, das er mir verhohlen habe, außer dir, indem du sein Weib bist. Wie sollte ich denn nun ein solch groß Übel tun und wider Gott sündigen?(D) Gen 39:9 καὶ οὐχ ὑπερέχει ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ ταύτῃ οὐθὲν ἐμοῦ οὐδὲ ὑπεξῄρηται ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ οὐδὲν πλὴν σοῦ διὰ τὸ σὲ γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ εἶναι καὶ πῶς ποιήσω τὸ ῥῆμα τὸ πονηρὸν τοῦτο καὶ ἁμαρτήσομαι ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ(lxx) Gen 39:9 There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?"(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:10 ============ Gen 39:10 As she spoke to Joseph day after day, he did not listen to her to lie beside her or be with her.(nasb) Gen 39:10 Hujuscemodi verbis per singulos dies, et mulier molesta erat adolescenti: et ille recusabat stuprum.(vulgate) Génesis 39:10 Y fue que, hablando ella a José cada día, que él no la escuchó para acostarse al lado de ella, o para estar con ella.(E) Genèse 39:10 Quoiqu'elle parlât tous les jours à Joseph, il refusa de coucher auprès d'elle, d'être avec elle.(F) Gen 39:10 Und sie trieb solche Worte gegen Joseph täglich. Aber er gehorchte ihr nicht, daß er nahe bei ihr schliefe noch um sie wäre.(D) Gen 39:10 ἡνίκα δὲ ἐλάλει τῷ Ιωσηφ ἡμέραν ἐξ ἡμέρας καὶ οὐχ ὑπήκουσεν αὐτῇ καθεύδειν μετ᾽ αὐτῆς τοῦ συγγενέσθαι αὐτῇ(lxx) Gen 39:10 So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:11 ============ Gen 39:11 Now it happened one day that he went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the household was there inside.(nasb) Gen 39:11 Accidit autem quadam die ut intraret Joseph domum, et operis quippiam absque arbitris faceret:(vulgate) Génesis 39:11 Y sucedió que entró él un día en casa para hacer su oficio, y no había nadie de los de casa allí.(E) Genèse 39:11 Un jour qu'il était entré dans la maison pour faire son ouvrage, et qu'il n'y avait là aucun des gens de la maison,(F) Gen 39:11 Es begab sich eines Tages, daß Joseph in das Haus ging, sein Geschäft zu tun, und war kein Mensch vom Gesinde des Hauses dabei.(D) Gen 39:11 ἐγένετο δὲ τοιαύτη τις ἡμέρα εἰσῆλθεν Ιωσηφ εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν ποιεῖν τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐθεὶς ἦν τῶν ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ ἔσω(lxx) Gen 39:11 But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside,(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:12 ============ Gen 39:12 She caught him by his garment, saying, "Lie with me!" And he left his garment in her hand and fled, and went outside.(nasb) Gen 39:12 et illa, apprehensa lacinia vestimenti ejus, diceret: Dormi mecum. Qui relicto in manu ejus pallio fugit, et egressus est foras.(vulgate) Génesis 39:12 Y ella lo asió por su ropa, diciendo: Acuéstate conmigo. Entonces él dejó su ropa en las manos de ella, y huyó y salió.(E) Genèse 39:12 elle le saisit par son vêtement, en disant: Couche avec moi! Il lui laissa son vêtement dans la main, et s'enfuit au dehors.(F) Gen 39:12 Und sie erwischte ihn bei seinem Kleid und sprach: Schlafe bei mir! Aber er ließ das Kleid in ihrer Hand und floh und lief zum Hause hinaus.(D) Gen 39:12 καὶ ἐπεσπάσατο αὐτὸν τῶν ἱματίων λέγουσα κοιμήθητι μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ καὶ καταλιπὼν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῆς ἔφυγεν καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἔξω(lxx) Gen 39:12 that she caught him by his garment, saying, "Lie with me." But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:13 ============ Gen 39:13 When she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled outside,(nasb) Gen 39:13 Cumque vidisset mulier vestem in manibus suis, et se esse contemptam,(vulgate) Génesis 39:13 Y aconteció que cuando vio ella que le había dejado su ropa en sus manos, y había huido fuera,(E) Genèse 39:13 Lorsqu'elle vit qu'il lui avait laissé son vêtement dans la main, et qu'il s'était enfui dehors,(F) Gen 39:13 Da sie nun sah, daß er sein Kleid in ihrer Hand ließ und hinaus entfloh,(D) Gen 39:13 καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἶδεν ὅτι κατέλιπεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῆς καὶ ἔφυγεν καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἔξω(lxx) Gen 39:13 And so it was, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and fled outside,(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:14 ============ Gen 39:14 she called to the men of her household and said to them, "See, he has brought in a Hebrew to us to make sport of us; he came in to me to lie with me, and I screamed.(nasb) Gen 39:14 vocavit ad se homines domus suæ, et ait ad eos: En introduxit virum hebræum, ut illuderet nobis: ingressus est ad me, ut coiret mecum: cumque ego succlamassem,(vulgate) Génesis 39:14 llamó a los de casa, y les habló, diciendo: Mirad, nos ha traído un hebreo, para que hiciese burla de nosotros. Vino él a mí para acostarse conmigo, y yo di grandes voces;(E) Genèse 39:14 elle appela les gens de sa maison, et leur dit: Voyez, il nous a amené un Hébreu pour se jouer de nous. Cet homme est venu vers moi pour coucher avec moi; mais j'ai crié à haute voix.(F) Gen 39:14 rief sie das Gesinde im Hause und sprach zu ihnen: Sehet, er hat uns den hebräischen Mann hereingebracht, daß er seinen Mutwillen mit uns treibe. Er kam zu mir herein und wollte bei mir schlafen; ich rief aber mit lauter Stimme.(D) Gen 39:14 καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τοὺς ὄντας ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς λέγουσα ἴδετε εἰσήγαγεν ἡμῖν παῖδα Εβραῖον ἐμπαίζειν ἡμῖν εἰσῆλθεν πρός με λέγων κοιμήθητι μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ καὶ ἐβόησα φωνῇ μεγάλῃ(lxx) Gen 39:14 that she called to the men of her house and spoke to them, saying, "See, he has brought in to us a Hebrew to mock us. le maître de Joseph fut enflammé de colère.(F) Gen 39:19 Als sein Herr hörte die Rede seines Weibes, die sie ihm sagte und sprach: Also hat mir dein Knecht getan, ward er sehr zornig.(D) Gen 39:19 ἐγένετο δὲ ὡς ἤκουσεν ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ τὰ ῥήματα τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ ὅσα ἐλάλησεν πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγουσα οὕτως ἐποίησέν μοι ὁ παῖς σου καὶ ἐθυμώθη ὀργῇ(lxx) Gen 39:19 So it was, when his master heard the words which his wife spoke to him, saying, "Your servant did to me after this manner," that his anger was aroused.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:20 ============ Gen 39:20 So Joseph's master took him and put him into the jail, the place where the king's prisoners were confined; and he was there in the jail.(nasb) Gen 39:20 tradiditque Joseph in carcerem, ubi vincti regis custodiebantur, et erat ibi clausus.~(vulgate) Génesis 39:20 Y tomó su señor a José, y le puso en la cárcel, donde estaban los presos del rey, y estuvo allí en la cárcel.(E) Genèse 39:20 Il prit Joseph, et le mit dans la prison, dans le lieu où les prisonniers du roi étaient enfermés: il fut là, en prison.(F) Gen 39:20 Da nahm ihn sein Herr und legte ihn ins Gefängnis, darin des Königs Gefangene lagen; und er lag allda im Gefängnis.(D) Gen 39:20 καὶ λαβὼν ὁ κύριος Ιωσηφ ἐνέβαλεν αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ ὀχύρωμα εἰς τὸν τόπον ἐν ᾧ οἱ δεσμῶται τοῦ βασιλέως κατέχονται ἐκεῖ ἐν τῷ ὀχυρώματι(lxx) Gen 39:20 Then Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:21 ============ Gen 39:21 But the Lord was with Joseph and extended kindness to him, and gave him favor in the sight of the chief jailer.(nasb) Gen 39:21 Fuit autem Dominus cum Joseph, et misertus illius dedit ei gratiam in conspectu principis carceris.(vulgate) Génesis 39:21 Pero Jehová estaba con José, y extendió a él su misericordia, y le dio gracia ante los ojos del jefe de la cárcel.(E) Genèse 39:21 L'Eternel fut avec Joseph, et il étendit sur lui sa bonté. Il le mit en faveur aux yeux du chef de la prison.(F) Gen 39:21 Aber der HERR war mit ihm und neigte seine Huld zu ihm und ließ ihn Gnade finden vor dem Amtmann über das Gefängnis,(D) Gen 39:21 καὶ ἦν κύριος μετὰ Ιωσηφ καὶ κατέχεεν αὐτοῦ ἔλεος καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ χάριν ἐναντίον τοῦ ἀρχιδεσμοφύλακος(lxx) Gen 39:21 But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:22 ============ Gen 39:22 The chief jailer committed to Joseph's charge all the prisoners who were in the jail; so that whatever was done there, he was responsible for it.(nasb) Gen 39:22 Qui tradidit in manu illius universos vinctos qui in custodia tenebantur: et quidquid fiebat, sub ipso erat.(vulgate) Génesis 39:22 Y el jefe de la cárcel entregó en mano de José todos los presos que había en aquella prisión; todo lo que hacían allí, él lo dirigía.(E) Genèse 39:22 Et le chef de la prison plaça sous sa surveillance tous les prisonniers qui étaient dans la prison; et rien ne s'y faisait que par lui.(F) Gen 39:22 daß er ihm unter seine Hand befahl alle Gefangenen im Gefängnis, auf daß alles, was da geschah, durch ihn geschehen mußte.(D) Gen 39:22 καὶ ἔδωκεν ὁ ἀρχιδεσμοφύλαξ τὸ δεσμωτήριον διὰ χειρὸς Ιωσηφ καὶ πάντας τοὺς ἀπηγμένους ὅσοι ἐν τῷ δεσμωτηρίῳ καὶ πάντα ὅσα ποιοῦσιν ἐκεῖ(lxx) Gen 39:22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 39:23 ============ Gen 39:23 The chief jailer did not supervise anything under Joseph's charge because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made to prosper.(nasb) Gen 39:23 Nec noverat aliquid, cunctis ei creditis: Dominus enim erat cum illo, et omnia opera ejus dirigebat.(vulgate) Génesis 39:23 No veía el jefe de la cárcel cosa alguna que en su mano [estaba]; porque Jehová estaba con él, y [lo] que él hacía, Jehová [lo] prosperaba.(E) Genèse 39:23 Le chef de la prison ne prenait aucune connaissance de ce que Joseph avait en main, parce que l'Eternel était avec lui. Et l'Eternel donnait de la réussite à ce qu'il faisait.(F) Gen 39:23 Denn der Amtmann des Gefängnisses nahm sich keines Dinges an; denn der HERR war mit Joseph, und was er tat, dazu gab der HERR Glück.(D) Gen 39:23 οὐκ ἦν ὁ ἀρχιδεσμοφύλαξ τοῦ δεσμωτηρίου γινώσκων δι᾽ αὐτὸν οὐθέν πάντα γὰρ ἦν διὰ χειρὸς Ιωσηφ διὰ τὸ τὸν κύριον μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ εἶναι καὶ ὅσα αὐτὸς ἐποίει κύριος εὐώδου ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτοῦ(lxx) Gen 39:23 The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph's authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:1 ============ top of the page
