Today's Date: ======= Matthew 3:1 ============ Mat 3:1 Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,(nas) Mat 3:1 ἐν δὲ ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις παραγίνεται ἰωάννης ὁ βαπτιστὴς κηρύσσων ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τῆς ἰουδαίας (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:1 In diebus autem illis venit Joannes Baptista prædicans in deserto Judææ,(vulgate) וַיְהִי בַּיָּמִים הָהֵם וַיָּבֹא יוֹחָנָן הַמְטַבֵּל וַיִּקְרָא בְמִדְבַּר יְהוּדָה וַיֹּאמַר׃ א Matthew Mat 3:1 Zu der Zeit kam Johannes der Täufer und predigte in der Wüste des jüdischen Landes(dhs) Mat 3:1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:2 ============ Mat 3:2 "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."(nas) Mat 3:2 [καὶ] λέγων, μετανοεῖτε, ἤγγικεν γὰρ ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν. (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:2 et dicens: Pœnitentiam agite: appropinquavit enim regnum cælorum.(vulgate) שׁוּבוּ כִּי־מַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמַיִם קָרְבָה לָבֹא׃ ב Matthew Mat 3:2 und sprach: Tut Buße, das Himmelreich ist nahe herbeigekommen!(dhs) Mat 3:2 and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!"(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:3 ============ Mat 3:3 For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make ready the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!'"(nas) Mat 3:3 οὖτος γάρ ἐστιν ὁ ῥηθεὶς διὰ ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος, φωνὴ βοῶντος ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ἑτοιμάσατε τὴν ὁδὸν κυρίου, εὐθείας ποιεῖτε τὰς τρίβους αὐτοῦ. (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:3 Hic est enim, qui dictus est per Isaiam prophetam dicentem: [Vox clamantis in deserto: Parate viam Domini; rectas facite semitas ejus.](vulgate) הוּא אֲשֶׁר נִבָּא עָלָיו יְשַׁעְיָהוּ הַנָּבִיא לֵאמֹר קוֹל קוֹרֵא בַּמִּדְבָּר פַּנּוּ דֶּרֶךְ יְהוָֹה יַשְּׁרוּ מְסִלּוֹתָיו׃ ג Matthew Mat 3:3 Und er ist der, von dem der Prophet Jesaja gesagt hat und gesprochen: "Es ist eine Stimme eines Predigers in der Wüste: Bereitet dem HERRN den Weg und macht richtig seine Steige!"(dhs) Mat 3:3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.' "(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:4 ============ Mat 3:4 Now John himself had a garment of camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.(nas) Mat 3:4 αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ ἰωάννης εἶχεν τὸ ἔνδυμα αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τριχῶν καμήλου καὶ ζώνην δερματίνην περὶ τὴν ὀσφὺν αὐτοῦ, ἡ δὲ τροφὴ ἦν αὐτοῦ ἀκρίδες καὶ μέλι ἄγριον. (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:4 Ipse autem Joannes habebat vestimentum de pilis camelorum, et zonam pelliceam circa lumbos suos: esca autem ejus erat locustæ, et mel silvestre.(vulgate) וְיוֹחָנָן הָיָה לָבוּשׁ שְׂעַר גְּמַלִּים וְאֵזוֹר עוֹר אָזוּר בְּמָתְנָיו וּמַאֲכָלוֹ חֲגָבִים וּדְבַשׁ מִיָּעַר׃ ד Matthew Mat 3:4 Er aber, Johannes, hatte ein Kleid von Kamelhaaren und einen ledernen Gürtel um seine Lenden; seine Speise aber war Heuschrecken und wilder Honig.(dhs) Mat 3:4 And John himself was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:5 ============ Mat 3:5 Then Jerusalem was going out to him, and all Judea and all the district around the Jordan;(nas) Mat 3:5 τότε ἐξεπορεύετο πρὸς αὐτὸν ἱεροσόλυμα καὶ πᾶσα ἡ ἰουδαία καὶ πᾶσα ἡ περίχωρος τοῦ ἰορδάνου, (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:5 Tunc exibat ad eum Jerosolyma, et omnis Judæa, et omnis regio circa Jordanem;(vulgate) וַיֵּצְאוּ אֵלָיו יְרוּשָׁלַיִם וְכָל־יְהוּדָה וְכָל־כִּכַּר הַיַּרְדֵּן׃ ה Matthew Mat 3:5 Da ging zu ihm hinaus die Stadt Jerusalem und das ganze jüdische Land und alle Länder an dem Jordan(dhs) Mat 3:5 Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:6 ============ Mat 3:6 and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, as they confessed their sins.(nas) Mat 3:6 καὶ ἐβαπτίζοντο ἐν τῶ ἰορδάνῃ ποταμῶ ὑπ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἐξομολογούμενοι τὰς ἁμαρτίας αὐτῶν. (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:6 et baptizabantur ab eo in Jordane, confitentes peccata sua.(vulgate) וַיִּטָּבְלוּ עַל־יָדוֹ בַּיַּרְדֵּן בְּהִתְוַדֹּתָם אֶת־חַטֹּאתֵיהֶם׃ ו Matthew Mat 3:6 und ließen sich taufen von ihm im Jordan und bekannten ihre Sünden.(dhs) Mat 3:6 and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:7 ============ Mat 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?(nas) Mat 3:7 ἰδὼν δὲ πολλοὺς τῶν φαρισαίων καὶ σαδδουκαίων ἐρχομένους ἐπὶ τὸ βάπτισμα αὐτοῦ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, γεννήματα ἐχιδνῶν, τίς ὑπέδειξεν ὑμῖν φυγεῖν ἀπὸ τῆς μελλούσης ὀργῆς; (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:7 Videns autem multos pharisæorum, et sadducæorum, venientes ad baptismum suum, dixit eis: Progenies viperarum, quis demonstravit vobis fugere a ventura ira?(vulgate) אַךְ כַּאֲשֶׁר רָאָה רַבִּים מִן־הַפְּרוּשִׁים וּמִן־הַצַּדּוּקִים בָּאִים אֵלָיו לְהִטָּבֵל וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם יַלְדֵי צִפְעֹנִים מִי הוֹרָה אֶתְכֶם לְהִמָּלֵט עַל־נַפְשְׁכֶם מִפְּנֵי חֲרוֹן אַף הַבָּא׃ ז Matthew Mat 3:7 Als er nun viele Pharisäer und Sadduzäer sah zu seiner Taufe kommen, sprach er zu ihnen: Ihr Otterngezüchte, wer hat denn euch gewiesen, daß ihr dem künftigen Zorn entrinnen werdet?(dhs) Mat 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:8 ============ Mat 3:8 Therefore bear fruit in keeping with repentance;(nas) Mat 3:8 ποιήσατε οὗν καρπὸν ἄξιον τῆς μετανοίας· (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:8 Facite ergo fructum dignum pœnitentiæ.(vulgate) לָכֵן עֲשׂוּ פְרִי טוֹב לִתְשׁוּבָה׃ ח Matthew Mat 3:8 Sehet zu, tut rechtschaffene Frucht der Buße!(dhs) Mat 3:8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:9 ============ Mat 3:9 and do not suppose that you can say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father'; for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham.(nas) Mat 3:9 καὶ μὴ δόξητε λέγειν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς, πατέρα ἔχομεν τὸν ἀβραάμ, λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι δύναται ὁ θεὸς ἐκ τῶν λίθων τούτων ἐγεῖραι τέκνα τῶ ἀβραάμ. (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:9 Et ne velitis dicere intra vos: Patrem habemus Abraham. Dico enim vobis quoniam potens est Deus de lapidibus istis suscitare filios Abrahæ.(vulgate) וְאַל־תֶּהְגּוּ בִלְבַבְכֶם לֵאמֹר אַבְרָהָם לָנוּ לְאָב כִּי אֲנִי אֹמֵר לָכֶם גַּם מִן־אֲבָנִים אֵלֶּה תַּשִּׂיג יַד־אֱלֹהִים לְהָקִים בָּנִים לְאַבְרָהָם׃ ט Matthew Mat 3:9 Denket nur nicht, daß ihr bei euch wollt sagen: Wir haben Abraham zum Vater. Ich sage euch: Gott vermag dem Abraham aus diesen Steinen Kinder zu erwecken.(dhs) Mat 3:9 and do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:10 ============ Mat 3:10 The axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.(nas) Mat 3:10 ἤδη δὲ ἡ ἀξίνη πρὸς τὴν ῥίζαν τῶν δένδρων κεῖται· πᾶν οὗν δένδρον μὴ ποιοῦν καρπὸν καλὸν ἐκκόπτεται καὶ εἰς πῦρ βάλλεται. (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:10 Jam enim securis ad radicem arborum posita est. Omnis ergo arbor, quæ non facit fructum bonum, excidetur, et in ignem mittetur.(vulgate) וְגַם־כְּבָר נָטוּי הַגַּרְזֶן עַל־שֹׁרֶשׁ הָעֵצִים וְלָכֵן כָּל־עֵץ אֲשֶׁר לֹא יַעֲשֶׂה פְרִי טוֹב יִגָּדַע וְהָשְׁלַךְ בְּמוֹ־אֵשׁ׃ י Matthew Mat 3:10 Es ist schon die Axt den Bäumen an die Wurzel gelegt. Darum, welcher Baum nicht gute Frucht bringt, wird abgehauen und ins Feuer geworfen.(dhs) Mat 3:10 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:11 ============ Mat 3:11 "As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.(nas) Mat 3:11 ἐγὼ μὲν ὑμᾶς βαπτίζω ἐν ὕδατι εἰς μετάνοιαν· ὁ δὲ ὀπίσω μου ἐρχόμενος ἰσχυρότερός μού ἐστιν, οὖ οὐκ εἰμὶ ἱκανὸς τὰ ὑποδήματα βαστάσαι· αὐτὸς ὑμᾶς βαπτίσει ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ καὶ πυρί· (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:11 Ego quidem baptizo vos in aqua in pœnitentiam: qui autem post me venturus est, fortior me est, cujus non sum dignus calceamenta portare: ipse vos baptizabit in Spiritu Sancto, et igni.(vulgate) וַאֲנִי הִנְנִי מְטַבֵּל אֶתְכֶם בַּמַּיִם לִתְשׁוּבָה אַךְ הַבָּא אַחֲרַי חָסֹן הוּא מִמֶּנִּי אֲשֶׁר קָטֹנְתִּי מִשְּׂאֵת אֶת־נְעָלָיו הוּא יְטַבֵּל אֶתְכֶם בְּרוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ וּבָאֵשׁ׃ יא Matthew Mat 3:11 Ich taufe euch mit Wasser zur Buße; der aber nach mir kommt, ist stärker denn ich, dem ich nicht genugsam bin, seine Schuhe zu tragen; der wird euch mit dem Heiligen Geist und mit Feuer taufen.(dhs) Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:12 ============ Mat 3:12 His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."(nas) Mat 3:12 οὖ τὸ πτύον ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ διακαθαριεῖ τὴν ἅλωνα αὐτοῦ, καὶ συνάξει τὸν σῖτον αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν ἀποθήκην, τὸ δὲ ἄχυρον κατακαύσει πυρὶ ἀσβέστῳ. (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:12 Cujus ventilabrum in manu sua: et permundabit aream suam: et congregabit triticum suum in horreum, paleas autem comburet igni inextinguibili.~(vulgate) אֲשֶׁר מִזְרֵהוּ בְיָדוֹ לִזְרוֹת וּלְהָבֵר אֶת־גָּרְנוֹ וְאָסַף אֶת־הַחִטִּים אֶל־תּוֹךְ אֲסָמָיו וְאֶת־הַמֹּץ יִשְׂרֹף בַּאֵשׁ אֲשֶׁר לֹא תִכְבֶּה׃ יב Matthew Mat 3:12 Und er hat seine Wurfschaufel in der Hand: er wird seine Tenne fegen und den Weizen in seine Scheune sammeln; aber die Spreu wird er verbrennen mit ewigem Feuer.(dhs) Mat 3:12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:13 ============ Mat 3:13 Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John, to be baptized by him.(nas) Mat 3:13 τότε παραγίνεται ὁ ἰησοῦς ἀπὸ τῆς γαλιλαίας ἐπὶ τὸν ἰορδάνην πρὸς τὸν ἰωάννην τοῦ βαπτισθῆναι ὑπ᾽ αὐτοῦ. (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:13 Tunc venit Jesus a Galilæa in Jordanem ad Joannem, ut baptizaretur ab eo.(vulgate) אָז יָבֹא יֵשׁוּעַ מִן־הַגָּלִיל אֶל־הַיַּרְדֵּן לִפְנֵי יוֹחָנָן לְהִטָּבֵל עַל־יָדוֹ׃ יג Matthew Mat 3:13 Zu der Zeit kam Jesus aus Galiläa an den Jordan zu Johannes, daß er sich von ihm taufen ließe.(dhs) Mat 3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him.(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:14 ============ Mat 3:14 But John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?"(nas) Mat 3:14 ὁ δὲ ἰωάννης διεκώλυεν αὐτὸν λέγων, ἐγὼ χρείαν ἔχω ὑπὸ σοῦ βαπτισθῆναι, καὶ σὺ ἔρχῃ πρός με; (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:14 Joannes autem prohibebat eum, dicens: Ego a te debeo baptizari, et tu venis ad me?(vulgate) וַיַּעֲצָר־בּוֹ יוֹחָנָן לֵאמֹר הֲלֹא נָכוֹן לִי לְהִטָּבֵל עַל־יָדְךָ וְאַתָּה בָּאתָ אֵלָי׃ יד Matthew Mat 3:14 Aber Johannes wehrte ihm und sprach: Ich bedarf wohl, daß ich von dir getauft werde, und du kommst zu mir?(dhs) Mat 3:14 And John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?"(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:15 ============ Mat 3:15 But Jesus answering said to him, "Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he permitted Him.(nas) Mat 3:15 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἰησοῦς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν, ἄφες ἄρτι, οὕτως γὰρ πρέπον ἐστὶν ἡμῖν πληρῶσαι πᾶσαν δικαιοσύνην. τότε ἀφίησιν αὐτόν. (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:15 Respondens autem Jesus, dixit ei: Sine modo: sic enim decet nos implere omnem justitiam. Tunc dimisit eum.(vulgate) וַיַּעַן יֵשׁוּעַ וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו הֶרֶף כַּיּוֹם כִּי־כֹה יָאֲתָה לָנוּ לְמַלֵּא כָל־צְדָקָה וַיִּרֶף מִמֶּנּוּ׃ טו Matthew Mat 3:15 Jesus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Laß es jetzt also sein! also gebührt es uns, alle Gerechtigkeit zu erfüllen. Da ließ er's ihm zu.(dhs) Mat 3:15 But Jesus answered and said to him, "Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed Him.(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:16 ============ Mat 3:16 After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him,(nas) Mat 3:16 βαπτισθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἰησοῦς εὐθὺς ἀνέβη ἀπὸ τοῦ ὕδατος· καὶ ἰδοὺ ἠνεῴχθησαν [αὐτῶ] οἱ οὐρανοί, καὶ εἶδεν [τὸ] πνεῦμα [τοῦ] θεοῦ καταβαῖνον ὡσεὶ περιστερὰν [καὶ] ἐρχόμενον ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν· (Nestle-Aland) Mat 3:16 Baptizatus autem Jesus, confestim ascendit de aqua, et ecce aperti sunt ei cæli: et vidit Spiritum Dei descendentem sicut columbam, et venientem super se.(vulgate) וַיִּטָּבֵל יֵשׁוּעַ וַיְמַהֵר וַיַּעַל מִן־הַמָּיִם וְהִנֵּה נִפְתְחוּ־לוֹ הַשָּׁמַיִם וַיַּרְא אֶת־רוּחַ אֱלֹהִים יֹרֶדֶת בִּדְמוּת־יוֹנָה וַתָּנַח עָלָיו׃ טז Matthew Mat 3:16 Und da Jesus getauft war, stieg er alsbald herauf aus dem Wasser; und siehe, da tat sich der Himmel auf Über ihm. Und er sah den Geist Gottes gleich als eine Taube herabfahren und über ihn kommen.(dhs) Mat 3:16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.(nkjv) ======= Matthew 3:17 ============ Mat 3:17 and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased."(nas) Mat 3:17 καὶ ἰδοὺ φωνὴ ἐκ τῶν οὐρανῶν λέγουσα, οὖτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός, ἐν ᾧ εὐδόκησα.
