And they kept silent all night, saying, "Let us wait until the morning light, then we will kill him."(nas) Jdg 16:2 καὶ ἀνηγγέλη τοῖς Γαζαίοις λέγοντες ἥκει Σαμψων ὧδε καὶ ἐκύκλωσαν καὶ ἐνήδρευσαν ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν ὅλην τὴν νύκτα ἐν τῇ πύλῃ τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἐκώφευσαν ὅλην τὴν νύκτα λέγοντες ἕως διαφαύσῃ ὁ ὄρθρος καὶ φονεύσωμεν αὐτόν (lxx) Jdg 16:2 Quod cum audissent Philisthiim, et percrebruisset apud eos intrasse urbem Samson, circumdederunt eum, positis in porta civitatis custodibus: et ibi tota nocte cum silentio præstolantes, ut facto mane exeuntem occiderent.(vulgate) Judges 16:2 And it was tolde to the Azzahites, Samson is come hither. And they went about, and laied wayte for him all night in the gate of the citie, & were quiet all the nyght, saying, Abide till the morning earely, and we shall kill him.(Geneva) Jdg 16:2 Da ward den Gazitern gesagt: Simson ist hereingekommen. Und sie umgaben ihn und ließen auf ihn lauern die ganze Nacht in der Stadt Tor und waren die ganze Nacht still und sprachen: Harre; morgen, wenn's licht wird, wollen wir ihn erwürgen.(dhs) Jdg 16:2 When the Gazites were told, "Samson has come here!" they surrounded the place and lay in wait for him all night at the gate of the city. They were quiet all night, saying, "In the morning, when it is daylight, we will kill him."(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:3 ============ Jdg 16:3 Now Samson lay until midnight, and at midnight he arose and took hold of the doors of the city gate and the two posts and pulled them up along with the bars; then he put them on his shoulders and carried them up to the top of the mountain which is opposite Hebron.(nas) Jdg 16:3 καὶ ἐκοιμήθη Σαμψων ἕως μεσονυκτίου καὶ ἀνέστη ἐν ἡμίσει τῆς νυκτὸς καὶ ἐπελάβετο τῶν θυρῶν τῆς πύλης τῆς πόλεως σὺν τοῖς δυσὶ σταθμοῖς καὶ ἀνεβάστασεν αὐτὰς σὺν τῷ μοχλῷ καὶ ἔθηκεν ἐπ᾽ ὤμων αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀνέβη ἐπὶ τὴν κορυφὴν τοῦ ὄρους τοῦ ἐπὶ προσώπου Χεβρων καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὰ ἐκεῖ (lxx) Jdg 16:3 Dormivit autem Samson usque ad medium noctem: et inde consurgens, apprehendit ambas portæ fores cum postibus suis et sera, impositasque humeris suis portavit ad verticem montis, qui respicit Hebron.~(vulgate) Judges 16:3 And Samson slept till midnight, and arose at midnight, and tooke the doores of the gates of the citie, and the two postes and lift them away with the barres, and put them vpon his shoulders, and caried them vp to the top of the mountaine that is before Hebron.(Geneva) Jdg 16:3 Simson aber lag bis Mitternacht. Da stand er auf zu Mitternacht und ergriff beide Türen an der Stadt Tor samt den Pfosten und hob sie aus mit den Riegeln und legte sie auf seine Schultern und trug sie hinauf auf die Höhe des Berges vor Hebron.(dhs) Jdg 16:3 And Samson lay low till midnight; then he arose at midnight, took hold of the doors of the gate of the city and the two gateposts, pulled them up, bar and all, put them on his shoulders, and carried them to the top of the hill that faces Hebron.(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:4 ============ Jdg 16:4 After this it came about that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.(nas) Jdg 16:4 καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τοῦτο καὶ ἠγάπησεν γυναῖκα ἐν Αλσωρηχ καὶ ὄνομα αὐτῇ Δαλιδα (lxx) Jdg 16:4 Post hæc amavit mulierem, quæ habitabat in valle Sorec, et vocabatur Dalila.(vulgate) Judges 16:4 And after this hee loued a woman by the riuer of Sorek, whose name was Delilah:(Geneva) Jdg 16:4 Darnach gewann er ein Weib lieb am Bach Sorek, die hieß Delila.(dhs) Jdg 16:4 Afterward it happened that he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:5 ============ Jdg 16:5 The lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, "Entice him, and see where his great strength lies and how we may overpower him that we may bind him to afflict him. Then we will each give you eleven hundred pieces of silver."(nas) Jdg 16:5 καὶ ἀνέβησαν πρὸς αὐτὴν οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν ἀλλοφύλων καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῇ ἀπάτησον αὐτὸν καὶ ἰδὲ ἐν τίνι ἡ ἰσχὺς αὐτοῦ ἡ μεγάλη καὶ ἐν τίνι δυνησόμεθα αὐτῷ καὶ δήσομεν αὐτὸν τοῦ ταπεινῶσαι αὐτόν καὶ ἡμεῖς δώσομέν σοι ἀνὴρ χιλίους καὶ ἑκατὸν ἀργυρίου (lxx) Jdg 16:5 Veneruntque ad eam principes Philisthinorum, atque dixerunt: Decipe eum, et disce ab illo, in quo habeat tantam fortitudinem, et quomodo eam superare valeamus, et vinctum affligere: quod si feceris, dabimus tibi singuli mille et centum argenteos.(vulgate) Judges 16:5 Vnto whome came the princes of the Philistims, and said vnto her, Entise him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what meane we may ouercome him, that we may binde him, and punish him, and euery one of vs shall giue thee eleuen hundreth shekels of siluer.(Geneva) Jdg 16:5 Zu der kamen der Philister Fürsten hinauf und sprachen zu ihr: Überrede ihn und siehe, worin er solche große Kraft hat und womit wir ihn übermögen, daß wir ihn binden und zwingen, so wollen wir dir geben ein jeglicher tausendundhundert Silberlinge.(dhs) Jdg 16:5 And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, "Entice him, and find out where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and every one of us will give you eleven hundred pieces of silver."(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:6 ============ Jdg 16:6 So Delilah said to Samson, "Please tell me where your great strength is and how you may be bound to afflict you."(nas) Jdg 16:6 καὶ εἶπεν Δαλιδα πρὸς Σαμψων ἀπάγγειλον δή μοι ἐν τίνι ἡ ἰσχύς σου ἡ μεγάλη καὶ ἐν τίνι δεθήσῃ τοῦ ταπεινωθῆναί σε (lxx) Jdg 16:6 Locuta est ergo Dalila ad Samson: Dic mihi, obsecro, in quo sit tua maxima fortitudo, et quid sit quo ligatus erumpere nequeas?(vulgate) Judges 16:6 And Delilah saide to Samson, Tell mee, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest bee bound, to doe thee hurt.(Geneva) Jdg 16:6 Und Delila sprach zu Simson: Sage mir doch, worin deine große Kraft sei und womit man dich binden möge, daß man dich zwinge?(dhs) Jdg 16:6 So Delilah said to Samson, "Please tell me where your great strength lies, and with what you may be bound to afflict you."(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:7 ============ Jdg 16:7 Samson said to her, "If they bind me with seven fresh cords that have not been dried, then I will become weak and be like any other man."(nas) Jdg 16:7 καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὴν Σαμψων ἐὰν δήσωσίν με ἐν ἑπτὰ νευρέαις ὑγραῖς μὴ διεφθαρμέναις καὶ ἀσθενήσω καὶ ἔσομαι ὡς εἷς τῶν ἀνθρώπων (lxx) Jdg 16:7 Cui respondit Samson: Si septem nerviceis funibus necdum siccis, et adhuc humentibus, ligatus fuero, infirmus ero ut ceteri homines.(vulgate) Judges 16:7 Samson then answered vnto her, If they binde mee with seuen greene cordes, that were neuer dryed, then shall I bee weake, and be as an other man.(Geneva) Jdg 16:7 Simson sprach zu ihr: Wenn man mich bände mit sieben Seilen von frischem Bast, die noch nicht verdorrt sind, so würde ich schwach und wäre wie ein anderer Mensch.(dhs) Jdg 16:7 And Samson said to her, "If they bind me with seven fresh bowstrings, not yet dried, then I shall become weak, and be like any other man."(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:8 ============ Jdg 16:8 Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh cords that had not been dried, and she bound him with them.(nas) Jdg 16:8 καὶ ἀνήνεγκαν αὐτῇ οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν ἀλλοφύλων ἑπτὰ νευρὰς ὑγρὰς μὴ διεφθαρμένας καὶ ἔδησεν αὐτὸν ἐν αὐταῖς (lxx) Jdg 16:8 Attuleruntque ad eam satrapæ Philisthinorum septem funes, ut dixerat: quibus vinxit eam,(vulgate) Judges 16:8 And the princes of the Philistims brought her seuen greene cordes that were not dry, and she bound him therewith.(Geneva) Jdg 16:8 Da brachten der Philister Fürsten zu ihr hinauf sieben Seile von frischem Bast, die noch nicht verdorrt waren; und sie band ihn damit.(dhs) Jdg 16:8 So the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh bowstrings, not yet dried, and she bound him with them.(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:9 ============ Jdg 16:9 Now she had men lying in wait in an inner room. And she said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" But he snapped the cords as a string of tow snaps when it touches fire. So his strength was not discovered.(nas) Jdg 16:9 καὶ τὸ ἔνεδρον αὐτῇ ἐκάθητο ἐν τῷ ταμιείῳ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ἀλλόφυλοι ἐπὶ σέ Σαμψων καὶ διέσπασεν τὰς νευρέας ὡς εἴ τις ἀποσπάσοι στρέμμα στιππύου ἐν τῷ ὀσφρανθῆναι αὐτὸ πυρός καὶ οὐκ ἐγνώσθη ἡ ἰσχὺς αὐτοῦ (lxx) Jdg 16:9 latentibus apud se insidiis, et in cubiculo finem rei expectantibus: clamavitque ad eum: Philisthiim super te, Samson. Qui rupit vincula, quomodo si rumpat quis filum de stuppæ tortum putamine, cum odorem ignis acceperit: et non est cognitum in quo esset fortitudo ejus.(vulgate) Judges 16:9 (And she had men lying in wayte with her in the chamber) Then she said vnto him, The Philistims be vpon thee, Samson; hee brake the cordes, as a threede of towe is broken, when it feeleth fire: so his strength was not knowen.(Geneva) Jdg 16:9 (Man lauerte ihm aber auf bei ihr in der Kammer.) Und sie sprach zu ihm: Die Philister über dir, Simson! Er aber zerriß die Seile, wie eine flächsene Schnur zerreißt, wenn sie ans Feuer riecht; und es ward nicht kund, wo seine Kraft wäre.(dhs) Jdg 16:9 Now men were lying in wait, staying with her in the room. And she said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" But he broke the bowstrings as a strand of yarn breaks when it touches fire. So the secret of his strength was not known.(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:10 ============ Jdg 16:10 Then Delilah said to Samson, "Behold, you have deceived me and told me lies; now please tell me how you may be bound."(nas) Jdg 16:10 καὶ εἶπεν Δαλιδα πρὸς Σαμψων ἰδοὺ ἐπλάνησάς με καὶ ἐλάλησας πρός με ψευδῆ νῦν οὖν ἀνάγγειλόν μοι ἐν τίνι δεθήσῃ (lxx) Jdg 16:10 Dixitque ad eum Dalila: Ecce illusisti mihi, et falsum locutus es: saltem nunc indica mihi quo ligari debeas.(vulgate) Judges 16:10 After Delilah saide vnto Samson, See, thou hast mocked mee and tolde mee lies. I pray thee nowe, tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound.(Geneva) Jdg 16:10 Da sprach Delila zu Simson: Siehe, du hast mich getäuscht und mir gelogen; nun, so sage mir doch, womit kann man dich binden?(dhs) Jdg 16:10 Then Delilah said to Samson, "Look, you have mocked me and told me lies. Now, please tell me what you may be bound with."(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:11 ============ Jdg 16:11 He said to her, "If they bind me tightly with new ropes which have not been used, then I will become weak and be like any other man."(nas) Jdg 16:11 καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτήν ἐὰν δεσμεύοντες δήσωσίν με ἐν καλωδίοις καινοῖς οἷς οὐκ ἐγένετο ἐν αὐτοῖς ἔργον καὶ ἀσθενήσω καὶ ἔσομαι ὡς εἷς τῶν ἀνθρώπων (lxx) Jdg 16:11 Cui ille respondit: Si ligatus fuero novis funibus, qui numquam fuerunt in opere, infirmus ero, et aliorum hominum similis.(vulgate) Judges 16:11 Then he answered her, If they binde mee with newe ropes that neuer were occupied, then shal I be weake, and be as an other man.(Geneva) Jdg 16:11 Er antwortete ihr: Wenn sie mich bänden mit neuen Stricken, damit nie eine Arbeit geschehen ist, so würde ich schwach und wie ein anderer Mensch.(dhs) Jdg 16:11 So he said to her, "If they bind me securely with new ropes that have never been used, then I shall become weak, and be like any other man."(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:12 ============ Jdg 16:12 So Delilah took new ropes and bound him with them and said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" For the men were lying in wait in the inner room. But he snapped the ropes from his arms like a thread.(nas) Jdg 16:12 καὶ ἔλαβεν Δαλιδα καλώδια καινὰ καὶ ἔδησεν αὐτὸν ἐν αὐτοῖς καὶ τὰ ἔνεδρα ἐξῆλθεν ἐκ τοῦ ταμιείου καὶ εἶπεν ἀλλόφυλοι ἐπὶ σέ Σαμψων καὶ διέσπασεν αὐτὰ ἀπὸ βραχιόνων αὐτοῦ ὡς σπαρτίον (lxx) Jdg 16:12 Quibus rursum Dalila vinxit eum, et clamavit: Philisthiim super te, Samson: in cubiculo insidiis præparatis. And he said to her, "If you weave the seven locks of my hair with the web [and fasten it with a pin, then I will become weak and be like any other man."(nas) Jdg 16:13 καὶ εἶπεν Δαλιδα πρὸς Σαμψων ἰδοὺ ἐπλάνησάς με καὶ ἐλάλησας πρὸς ἐμὲ ψευδῆ ἀπάγγειλον δή μοι ἐν τίνι δεθήσῃ καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτήν ἐὰν ὑφάνῃς τὰς ἑπτὰ σειρὰς τῆς κεφαλῆς μου σὺν τῷ διάσματι καὶ ἐγκρούσῃς τῷ πασσάλῳ εἰς τὸν τοῖχον καὶ ἔσομαι ὡς εἷς τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἀσθενής (lxx) Jdg 16:13 Dixitque Dalila rursum ad eum: Usquequo decipis me, et falsum loqueris? ostende quo vinciri debeas. Cui respondit Samson: Si septem crines capitis mei cum licio plexueris, et clavum his circumligatum terræ fixeris, infirmus ero.(vulgate) Judges 16:13 Afterward Delilah said to Samson, Hitherto thou hast beguiled mee, and tolde me lies: tell me how thou mightest be bounde. And he sayde vnto her, If thou plattedst seuen lockes of mine head with the threedes of the woufe.(Geneva) Jdg 16:13 Delila aber sprach zu ihm: Bisher hast du mich getäuscht und mir gelogen. Sage mir doch, womit kann man dich binden? Er antwortete ihr: Wenn du mir die sieben Locken meines Hauptes zusammenflöchtest mit einem Gewebe und heftetest sie mit dem Nagel ein.(dhs) Jdg 16:13 Delilah said to Samson, "Until now you have mocked me and told me lies. Tell me what you may be bound with." And he said to her, "If you weave the seven locks of my head into the web of the loom"--(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:14 ============ Jdg 16:14 So while he slept, Delilah took the seven locks of his hair and wove them into the web]. And she fastened it with the pin and said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" But he awoke from his sleep and pulled out the pin of the loom and the web. (nas) Jdg 16:14 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ κοιμᾶσθαι αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλαβεν Δαλιδα τὰς ἑπτὰ σειρὰς τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ ὕφανεν ἐν τῷ διάσματι καὶ ἔπηξεν τῷ πασσάλῳ εἰς τὸν τοῖχον καὶ εἶπεν ἀλλόφυλοι ἐπὶ σέ Σαμψων καὶ ἐξυπνίσθη ἐκ τοῦ ὕπνου αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξῆρεν τὸν πάσσαλον τοῦ ὑφάσματος ἐκ τοῦ τοίχου (lxx) Jdg 16:14 Quod cum fecisset Dalila, dixit ad eum: Philisthiim super te, Samson. Qui consurgens de somno extraxit clavum cum crinibus et licio.~(vulgate) Judges 16:14 And she fastened it with a pinne, and saide vnto him, The Philistims be vpon thee, Samson; he awoke out of his sleepe, and went away with the pinne of the webbe and the woufe.(Geneva) Jdg 16:14 Und sie sprach zu ihm: Philister über dir, Simson! Er aber wachte auf von seinem Schlaf und zog die geflochtenen Locken mit Nagel und Gewebe heraus.(dhs) Jdg 16:14 So she wove it tightly with the batten of the loom, and said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" But he awoke from his sleep, and pulled out the batten and the web from the loom.(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:15 ============ Jdg 16:15 Then she said to him, "How can you say, 'I love you,' when your heart is not with me? You have deceived me these three times and have not told me where your great strength is."(nas) Jdg 16:15 καὶ εἶπεν Δαλιδα πρὸς Σαμψων πῶς λέγεις ἠγάπηκά σε καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἡ καρδία σου μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ τοῦτο τρίτον ἐπλάνησάς με καὶ οὐκ ἀπήγγειλάς μοι ἐν τίνι ἡ ἰσχύς σου ἡ μεγάλη (lxx) Jdg 16:15 Dixitque ad eum Dalila: Quomodo dicis quod amas me, cum animus tuus non sit mecum? Per tres vices mentitus es mihi, et noluisti dicere in quo sit maxima fortitudo tua.(vulgate) Judges 16:15 Againe shee sayde vnto him, Howe canst thou say, I loue thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked mee these three times, and hast not tolde me wherein thy great strength lieth.(Geneva) Jdg 16:15 Da sprach sie zu ihm: Wie kannst du sagen, du habest mich lieb, so dein Herz doch nicht mit mir ist? Dreimal hast du mich getäuscht und mir nicht gesagt, worin deine große Kraft sei.(dhs) Jdg 16:15 Then she said to him, "How can you say, 'I love you,' when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me where your great strength lies."(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:16 ============ Jdg 16:16 It came about when she pressed him daily with her words and urged him, that his soul was annoyed to death.(nas) Jdg 16:16 καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐξέθλιψεν αὐτὸν ἐν λόγοις αὐτῆς πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας καὶ ἐστενοχώρησεν αὐτόν καὶ ὠλιγοψύχησεν ἕως τοῦ ἀποθανεῖν (lxx) Jdg 16:16 Cumque molesta esset ei, et per multos dies jugiter adhæreret, spatium ad quietem non tribuens, defecit anima ejus, et ad mortem usque lassata est.(vulgate) Judges 16:16 And because shee was importunate vpon him with her wordes continually, and vexed him, his soule was pained vnto the death.(Geneva) Jdg 16:16 Da sie ihn aber drängte mit ihren Worten alle Tage und ihn zerplagte, ward seine Seele matt bis an den Tod,(dhs) Jdg 16:16 And it came to pass, when she pestered him daily with her words and pressed him, so that his soul was vexed to death,(nkjv) ======= Judges 16:17 ============ Jdg 16:17 So he told her all that was in his heart and said to her, "A razor has never come on my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother's womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will leave me and I will become weak and be like any other man."(nas) Jdg 16:17 καὶ ἀνήγγειλεν αὐτῇ τὴν πᾶσαν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ σίδηρος οὐκ ἀνέβη ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλήν μου ὅτι ἅγιος θεοῦ ἐγώ εἰμι ἀπὸ κοιλίας μητρός μου ἐὰν οὖν ξυρήσωμαι ἀποστήσεται ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ ἡ ἰσχύς μου καὶ ἀσθενήσω καὶ ἔσομαι ὡς πάντες οἱ ἄνθρωποι (lxx) Jdg 16:17 Tunc aperiens veritatem rei, dixit ad eam: Ferrum numquam ascendit super caput meum, quia nazaræus, id est, consecratus Deo, sum de utero matris meæ: si rasum fuerit caput meum, recedet a me fortitudo mea, et deficiam, eroque sicut ceteri homines.(vulgate) Judges 16:17 Therefore he tolde her all his heart, and said vnto her, There neuer came rasor vpon mine head: for I am a Nazarite vnto God from my mothers wombe: therefore if I bee shauen, my strength will goe from me, and I shalbe weake, and be like all other men.(Geneva) Jdg 16:17 und er sagte ihr sein ganzes Herz und sprach zu ihr: Es ist nie ein Schermesser auf mein Haupt gekommen; denn ich bin ein Geweihter Gottes von Mutterleibe an.
