Today's Date: ======= Ecclesiastes 6:1 ============ Ecl 6:1 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun and it is prevalent among men--(nas) Ecl 6:1 ἔστιν πονηρία ἣν εἶδον ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον καὶ πολλή ἐστιν ἐπὶ τὸν ἄνθρωπον (lxx) Ecl 6:1 [Est et aliud malum quod vidi sub sole, et quidem frequens apud homines:(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 6:1 There is an euill, which I sawe vnder the sunne, and it is much among men:(Geneva) Ecl 6:1 Es ist ein Unglück, das ich sah unter der Sonne, und ist gemein bei den Menschen:(dhs) Ecl 6:1 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is common among men:(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 6:2 ============ Ecl 6:2 a man to whom God has given riches and wealth and honor so that his soul lacks nothing of all that he desires; yet God has not empowered him to eat from them, for a foreigner enjoys them. This is vanity and a severe affliction. (nas) Ecl 6:2 ἀνήρ ᾧ δώσει αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς πλοῦτον καὶ ὑπάρχοντα καὶ δόξαν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ὑστερῶν τῇ ψυχῇ αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ πάντων ὧν ἐπιθυμήσει καὶ οὐκ ἐξουσιάσει αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς τοῦ φαγεῖν ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἀνὴρ ξένος φάγεται αὐτόν τοῦτο ματαιότης καὶ ἀρρωστία πονηρά ἐστιν (lxx) Ecl 6:2 vir cui dedit Deus divitias, et substantiam, et honorem, et nihil deest animæ suæ ex omnibus quæ desiderat; nec tribuit ei potestatem Deus ut comedat ex eo, sed homo extraneus vorabit illud: hoc vanitas et miseria magna est.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 6:2 A man to whom God hath giuen riches and treasures and honour, and he wanteth nothing for his soule of all that it desireth: but God giueth him not power to eate thereof, but a strange man shall eate it vp: this is vanitie, and this is an euill sicknesse.(Geneva) Ecl 6:2 einer, dem Gott Reichtum, Güter und Ehre gegeben hat und mangelt ihm keins, das sein Herz begehrt; und Gott gibt doch ihm nicht Macht, es zu genießen, sondern ein anderer verzehrt es; das ist eitel und ein böses Übel.(dhs) Ecl 6:2 A man to whom God has given riches and wealth and honor, so that he lacks nothing for himself of all he desires; yet God does not give him power to eat of it, but a foreigner consumes it. This is vanity, and it is an evil affliction.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 6:3 ============ Ecl 6:3 If a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years, however many they be, but his soul is not satisfied with good things and he does not even have a proper burial, then I say, "Better the miscarriage than he, (nas) Ecl 6:3 ἐὰν γεννήσῃ ἀνὴρ ἑκατὸν καὶ ἔτη πολλὰ ζήσεται καὶ πλῆθος ὅ τι ἔσονται ἡμέραι ἐτῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ψυχὴ αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐμπλησθήσεται ἀπὸ τῆς ἀγαθωσύνης καί γε ταφὴ οὐκ ἐγένετο αὐτῷ εἶπα ἀγαθὸν ὑπὲρ αὐτὸν τὸ ἔκτρωμα (lxx) Ecl 6:3 Si genuerit quispiam centum liberos, et vixerit multos annos, et plures dies ætatis habuerit, et anima illius non utatur bonis substantiæ suæ, sepulturaque careat: de hoc ergo pronuntio quod melior illo sit abortivus.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 6:3 If a man beget an hundreth children and liue many yeeres, and the dayes of his yeeres be multiplied, & his soule be not satisfied with good things, and he be not buried, I say that an vntimely fruite is better then he.(Geneva) Ecl 6:3 Wenn einer gleich hundert Kinder zeugte und hätte langes Leben, daß er viele Jahre überlebte, und seine Seele sättigte sich des Guten nicht und bliebe ohne Grab, von dem spreche ich, daß eine unzeitige Geburt besser sei denn er.(dhs) Ecl 6:3 If a man begets a hundred children and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with goodness, or indeed he has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better than he--(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 6:4 ============ Ecl 6:4 for it comes in futility and goes into obscurity; and its name is covered in obscurity. (nas) Ecl 6:4 ὅτι ἐν ματαιότητι ἦλθεν καὶ ἐν σκότει πορεύεται καὶ ἐν σκότει ὄνομα αὐτοῦ καλυφθήσεται (lxx) Ecl 6:4 Frustra enim venit, et pergit ad tenebras, et oblivione delebitur nomen ejus.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 6:4 For he commeth into vanitie and goeth into darkenesse: and his name shall be couered with darkenesse.(Geneva) Ecl 6:4 Denn in Nichtigkeit kommt sie, und in Finsternis fährt sie dahin, und ihr Name bleibt in Finsternis bedeckt,(dhs) Ecl 6:4 for it comes in vanity and departs in darkness, and its name is covered with darkness.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 6:5 ============ Ecl 6:5 It never sees the sun and it never knows anything; it is better off than he. (nas) Ecl 6:5 καί γε ἥλιον οὐκ εἶδεν καὶ οὐκ ἔγνω ἀνάπαυσις τούτῳ ὑπὲρ τοῦτον (lxx) Ecl 6:5 Non vidit solem, neque cognovit distantiam boni et mali.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 6:5 Also he hath not seene ye sunne, nor knowen it: therefore this hath more rest then the other.(Geneva) Ecl 6:5 auch hat sie die Sonne nicht gesehen noch gekannt; so hat sie mehr Ruhe denn jener.(dhs) Ecl 6:5 Though it has not seen the sun or known anything, this has more rest than that man,(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 6:6 ============ Ecl 6:6 Even if the other man lives a thousand years twice and does not enjoy good things--do not all go to one place?"(nas) Ecl 6:6 καὶ εἰ ἔζησεν χιλίων ἐτῶν καθόδους καὶ ἀγαθωσύνην οὐκ εἶδεν μὴ οὐκ εἰς τόπον ἕνα τὰ πάντα πορεύεται (lxx) Ecl 6:6 Etiam si duobus millibus annis vixerit, et non fuerit perfruitus bonis, nonne ad unum locum properant omnia?(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 6:6 And if he had liued a thousand yeeres twise tolde, and had seene no good, shall not all goe to one place?(Geneva) Ecl 6:6 Ob er auch zweitausend Jahre lebte, und genösse keines Guten: kommt's nicht alles an einen Ort?(dhs) Ecl 6:6 even if he lives a thousand years twice--but has not seen goodness. Do not all go to one place?(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 6:7 ============ Ecl 6:7 All a man's labor is for his mouth and yet the appetite is not satisfied. (nas) Ecl 6:7 πᾶς μόχθος τοῦ ἀνθρώπου εἰς στόμα αὐτοῦ καί γε ἡ ψυχὴ οὐ πληρωθήσεται (lxx) Ecl 6:7 Omnis labor hominis in ore ejus; sed anima ejus non implebitur.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 6:7 All the labour of man is for his mouth: yet the soule is not filled.(Geneva) Ecl 6:7 Alle Arbeit des Menschen ist für seinen Mund; aber doch wird die Seele nicht davon satt.(dhs) Ecl 6:7 All the labor of man is for his mouth, And yet the soul is not satisfied.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 6:8 ============ Ecl 6:8 For what advantage does the wise man have over the fool? What advantage does the poor man have, knowing how to walk before the living? (nas) Ecl 6:8 ὅτι τίς περισσεία τῷ σοφῷ ὑπὲρ τὸν ἄφρονα διότι ὁ πένης οἶδεν πορευθῆναι κατέναντι τῆς ζωῆς (lxx) Ecl 6:8 Quid habet amplius sapiens a stulto? et quid pauper, nisi ut pergat illuc ubi est vita?(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 6:8 For what hath the wise man more then the foole? what hath the poore that knoweth how to walke before the liuing?(Geneva) Ecl 6:8 Denn was hat ein Weiser mehr als ein Narr? Was hilft's den Armen, daß er weiß zu wandeln vor den Lebendigen?(dhs) Ecl 6:8 For what more has the wise man than the fool? What does the poor man have, Who knows how to walk before the living?(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 6:9 ============ Ecl 6:9 What the eyes see is better than what the soul desires. This too is futility and a striving after wind. (nas) Ecl 6:9 ἀγαθὸν ὅραμα ὀφθαλμῶν ὑπὲρ πορευόμενον ψυχῇ καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης καὶ προαίρεσις πνεύματος (lxx) Ecl 6:9 Melius est videre quod cupias, quam desiderare quod nescias. Sed et hoc vanitas est, et præsumptio spiritus.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 6:9 The sight of ye eye is better then to walke in ye lustes: this also is vanitie, & vexation of spirit.(Geneva) Ecl 6:9 Es ist besser, das gegenwärtige Gut gebrauchen, denn nach anderm gedenken. Das ist auch Eitelkeit und Haschen nach Wind.(dhs) Ecl 6:9 Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of desire. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 6:10 ============ Ecl 6:10 Whatever exists has already been named, and it is known what man is; for he cannot dispute with him who is stronger than he is. (nas) Ecl 6:10 εἴ τι ἐγένετο ἤδη κέκληται ὄνομα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐγνώσθη ὅ ἐστιν ἄνθρωπος καὶ οὐ δυνήσεται τοῦ κριθῆναι μετὰ τοῦ ἰσχυροῦ ὑπὲρ αὐτόν (lxx) Ecl 6:10 Qui futurus est, jam vocatum est nomen ejus; et scitur quod homo sit, et non possit contra fortiorem se in judicio contendere.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 6:10 What is that that hath bene? the name thereof is nowe named: and it is knowen that it is man: and he cannot striue with him that is stronger then he.(Geneva) Ecl 6:10 Was da ist, des Name ist zuvor genannt, und es ist bestimmt, was ein Mensch sein wird; und er kann nicht hadern mit dem, der ihm zu mächtig ist.(dhs) Ecl 6:10 Whatever one is, he has been named already, For it is known that he is man; And he cannot contend with Him who is mightier than he.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 6:11 ============ Ecl 6:11 For there are many words which increase futility. What then is the advantage to a man? (nas) Ecl 6:11 ὅτι εἰσὶν λόγοι πολλοὶ πληθύνοντες ματαιότητα τί περισσὸν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ (lxx) Ecl 6:11 Verba sunt plurima, multamque in disputando habentia vanitatem.](vulgate) Ecclesiastes 6:11 (7:1) Svrely there be many things that increase vanitie: and what auaileth it man?(Geneva) Ecl 6:11 Denn es ist des eitlen Dinges zuviel; was hat ein Mensch davon?(dhs) Ecl 6:11 Since there are many things that increase vanity, How is man the better?(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 6:12 ============ Ecl 6:12 For who knows what is good for a man during his lifetime, during the few years of his futile life? He will spend them like a shadow. For who can tell a man what will be after him under the sun? (nas) Ecl 6:12 ὅτι τίς οἶδεν τί ἀγαθὸν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ἐν τῇ ζωῇ ἀριθμὸν ἡμερῶν ζωῆς ματαιότητος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτὰς ἐν σκιᾷ ὅτι τίς ἀπαγγελεῖ τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τί ἔσται ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον (lxx) Ecl 6:12 [Quid necesse est homini majora se quærere, cum ignoret quid conducat sibi in vita sua, numero dierum peregrinationis suæ, et tempore quod velut umbra præterit? aut quis ei poterit indicare quod post eum futurum sub sole sit?(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 6:12 (7:2) For who knoweth what is good for man in the life and in the nomber of the dayes of the life of his vanitie, seeing he maketh them as a shadowe? For who can shewe vnto man what shall be after him vnder the sunne?(Geneva) Ecl 6:12 Denn wer weiß, was dem Menschen nütze ist im Leben, solange er lebt in seiner Eitelkeit, welches dahinfährt wie ein Schatten? Oder wer will dem Menschen sagen, was nach ihm kommen wird unter der Sonne?(dhs) Ecl 6:12 For who knows what is good for man in life, all the days of his vain life which he passes like a shadow? Who can tell a man what will happen after him under the sun?(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 7:1 ============ Ecl 7:1 A good name is better than a good ointment, And the day of one's death is better than the day of one's birth. (nas) Ecl 7:1 ἀγαθὸν ὄνομα ὑπὲρ ἔλαιον ἀγαθὸν καὶ ἡμέρα τοῦ θανάτου ὑπὲρ ἡμέραν γενέσεως αὐτοῦ (lxx) Ecl 7:1 Melius est nomen bonum quam unguenta pretiosa, et dies mortis die nativitatis.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 7:1 (7:3) A good name is better then a good oyntment, and the day of death, then the day that one is borne.(Geneva) Ecl 7:1 Ein guter Ruf ist besser denn gute Salbe, und der Tag des Todes denn der Tag der Geburt.(dhs) Ecl 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment, And the day of death than the day of one's birth;(nkjv) |
