And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.(KJV) Judges 16:2 And it was tolde to the Azzahites, Samson is come hither. And they went about, and laied wayte for him all night in the gate of the citie, & were quiet all the nyght, saying, Abide till the morning earely, and we shall kill him.(Geneva) Juges 16:2 On dit aux gens de Gaza: Samson est arrivé ici. Et ils l'environnèrent, et se tinrent en embuscade toute la nuit à la porte de la ville. Ils restèrent tranquilles toute la nuit, disant: Au point du jour, nous le tuerons.(FR) 2 ׃16 לֽ͏ַעַזָּתִ֣ים ׀ לֵאמֹ֗ר בָּ֤א שִׁמְשׁוֹן֙ הֵ֔נָּה וַיָּסֹ֛בּוּ וַיֶּאֶרְבוּ־ל֥וֹ כָל־הַלַּ֖יְלָה בְּשַׁ֣עַר הָעִ֑יר וַיִּתְחָרְשׁ֤וּ כָל־הַלַּ֙יְלָה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר עַד־א֥וֹר הַבֹּ֖קֶר וַהֲרְגְנֻֽהוּ׃ Judges Jdg 16:2 When it was told to the Gazites, saying, "Samson has come here," they surrounded the place and lay in wait for him all night at the gate of the city. And they kept silent all night, saying, "Let us wait until the morning light, then we will kill him."(nasb) ======= Judges 16:3 ============ Jdg 16:3 And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.(KJV) Judges 16:3 And Samson slept till midnight, and arose at midnight, and tooke the doores of the gates of the citie, and the two postes and lift them away with the barres, and put them vpon his shoulders, and caried them vp to the top of the mountaine that is before Hebron.(Geneva) Juges 16:3 Samson demeura couché jusqu'à minuit. Vers minuit, il se leva; et il saisit les battants de la porte de la ville et les deux poteaux, les arracha avec la barre, les mit sur ses épaules, et les porta sur le sommet de la montagne qui est en face d'Hébron.(FR) 3 ׃16 וַיִּשְׁכַּ֣ב שִׁמְשׁוֹן֮ עַד־חֲצִ֣י הַלַּיְלָה֒ וַיָּ֣קָם ׀ בַּחֲצִ֣י הַלַּ֗יְלָה וַיֶּאֱחֹ֞ז בְּדַלְת֤וֹת שַֽׁעַר־הָעִיר֙ וּבִשְׁתֵּ֣י הַמְּזוּז֔וֹת וַיִּסָּעֵם֙ עִֽם־הַבְּרִ֔יחַ וַיָּ֖שֶׂם עַל־כְּתֵפָ֑יו וַֽיַּעֲלֵם֙ אֶל־רֹ֣אשׁ הָהָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־פְּנֵ֥י חֶבְרֽוֹן׃ פ Judges Jdg 16:3 Now Samson lay until midnight, and at midnight he arose and took hold of the doors of the city gate and the two posts and pulled them up along with the bars; then he put them on his shoulders and carried them up to the top of the mountain which is opposite Hebron.(nasb) ======= Judges 16:4 ============ Jdg 16:4 And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.(KJV) Judges 16:4 And after this hee loued a woman by the riuer of Sorek, whose name was Delilah:(Geneva) Juges 16:4 Après cela, il aima une femme dans la vallée de Sorek. Elle se nommait Delila.(FR) 4 ׃16 וֽ͏ַיְהִי֙ אַחֲרֵי[c] כֵ֔ן וַיֶּאֱהַ֥ב אִשָּׁ֖ה בְּנַ֣חַל שֹׂרֵ֑ק וּשְׁמָ֖הּ דְּלִילָֽה׃ Judges Jdg 16:4 After this it came about that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.(nasb) ======= Judges 16:5 ============ Jdg 16:5 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.(KJV) Judges 16:5 Vnto whome came the princes of the Philistims, and said vnto her, Entise him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what meane we may ouercome him, that we may binde him, and punish him, and euery one of vs shall giue thee eleuen hundreth shekels of siluer.(Geneva) Juges 16:5 Les princes des Philistins montèrent vers elle, et lui dirent: Flatte-le, pour savoir d'où lui vient sa grande force et comment nous pourrions nous rendre maîtres de lui; nous le lierons pour le dompter, et nous te donnerons chacun mille et cent sicles d'argent.(FR) 5 ׃16 וַיַּעֲל֨וּ אֵלֶ֜יהָ סַרְנֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים וַיֹּ֨אמְרוּ לָ֜הּ פַּתִּ֣י אוֹת֗וֹ וּרְאִי֙ בַּמֶּה֙ כֹּח֣וֹ גָד֔וֹל וּבַמֶּה֙ נ֣וּכַל ל֔וֹ וַאֲסַרְנֻ֖הוּ לְעַנֹּת֑וֹ וַאֲנַ֙חְנוּ֙ נִתַּן־לָ֔ךְ אִ֕ישׁ אֶ֥לֶף וּמֵאָ֖ה כָּֽסֶף׃ Judges Jdg 16:5 The lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, "Entice him, and see where his great strength lies and how we may overpower him that we may bind him to afflict him. Then we will each give you eleven hundred pieces of silver."(nasb) ======= Judges 16:6 ============ Jdg 16:6 And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.(KJV) Judges 16:6 And Delilah saide to Samson, Tell mee, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest bee bound, to doe thee hurt.(Geneva) Juges 16:6 Delila dit à Samson: Dis-moi, je te prie, d'où vient ta grande force, et avec quoi il faudrait te lier pour te dompter.(FR) 6 ׃16 וַתֹּ֤אמֶר דְּלִילָה֙ אֶל־שִׁמְשׁ֔וֹן הַגִּֽידָה־נָּ֣א לִ֔י בַּמֶּ֖ה כֹּחֲךָ֣ גָד֑וֹל וּבַמֶּ֥ה תֵאָסֵ֖ר לְעַנּוֹתֶֽךָ׃ Judges Jdg 16:6 So Delilah said to Samson, "Please tell me where your great strength is and how you may be bound to afflict you."(nasb) ======= Judges 16:7 ============ Jdg 16:7 And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.(KJV) Judges 16:7 Samson then answered vnto her, If they binde mee with seuen greene cordes, that were neuer dryed, then shall I bee weake, and be as an other man.(Geneva) Juges 16:7 Samson lui dit: Si on me liait avec sept cordes fraîches, qui ne fussent pas encore sèches, je deviendrais faible et je serais comme un autre homme.(FR) 7 ׃16 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙ שִׁמְשׁ֔וֹן אִם־יַאַסְרֻ֗נִי בְּשִׁבְעָ֛ה יְתָרִ֥ים לַחִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־חֹרָ֑בוּ וְחָלִ֥יתִי וְהָיִ֖יתִי כְּאַחַ֥ד הָאָדָֽם׃ Judges Jdg 16:7 Samson said to her, "If they bind me with seven fresh cords that have not been dried, then I will become weak and be like any other man."(nasb) ======= Judges 16:8 ============ Jdg 16:8 Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.(KJV) Judges 16:8 And the princes of the Philistims brought her seuen greene cordes that were not dry, and she bound him therewith.(Geneva) Juges 16:8 Les princes des Philistins apportèrent à Delila sept cordes fraîches, qui n'étaient pas encore sèches. Et elle le lia avec ces cordes.(FR) 8 ׃16 וַיַּעֲלוּ־לָ֞הּ סַרְנֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים שִׁבְעָ֛ה יְתָרִ֥ים לַחִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־חֹרָ֑בוּ וַתַּאַסְרֵ֖הוּ בָּהֶֽם׃ Judges Jdg 16:8 Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh cords that had not been dried, and she bound him with them.(nasb) ======= Judges 16:9 ============ Jdg 16:9 Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.(KJV) Judges 16:9 (And she had men lying in wayte with her in the chamber) Then she said vnto him, The Philistims be vpon thee, Samson; hee brake the cordes, as a threede of towe is broken, when it feeleth fire: so his strength was not knowen.(Geneva) Juges 16:9 Or des gens se tenaient en embuscade chez elle, dans une chambre. Elle lui dit: Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson! Et il rompit les cordes, comme se rompt un cordon d'étoupe quand il sent le feu. Et l'on ne connut point d'où venait sa force.(FR) 9 ׃16 וְהָאֹרֵ֗ב יֹשֵׁ֥ב לָהּ֙ בַּחֶ֔דֶר וַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו פְּלִשְׁתִּ֥ים עָלֶ֖יךָ שִׁמְשׁ֑וֹן וַיְנַתֵּק֙ אֶת־הַיְתָרִ֔ים כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר יִנָּתֵ֤ק פְּתִֽיל־הַנְּעֹ֙רֶת֙ בַּהֲרִיח֣וֹ אֵ֔שׁ וְלֹ֥א נוֹדַ֖ע כֹּחֽוֹ׃ Judges Jdg 16:9 Now she had men lying in wait in an inner room. And she said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" But he snapped the cords as a string of tow snaps when it touches fire. So his strength was not discovered.(nasb) ======= Judges 16:10 ============ Jdg 16:10 And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.(KJV) Judges 16:10 After Delilah saide vnto Samson, See, thou hast mocked mee and tolde mee lies. I pray thee nowe, tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound.(Geneva) Juges 16:10 Delila dit à Samson: Voici, tu t'es joué de moi, tu m'as dit des mensonges. Maintenant, je te prie, indique-moi avec quoi il faut te lier.(FR) 10 ׃16 וַתֹּ֤אמֶר דְּלִילָה֙ אֶל־שִׁמְשׁ֔וֹן הִנֵּה֙ הֵתַ֣לְתָּ בִּ֔י וַתְּדַבֵּ֥ר אֵלַ֖י כְּזָבִ֑ים עַתָּה֙ הַגִּֽידָה־נָּ֣א לִ֔י בַּמֶּ֖ה תֵּאָסֵֽר׃ Judges Jdg 16:10 Then Delilah said to Samson, "Behold, you have deceived me and told me lies; now please tell me how you may be bound."(nasb) ======= Judges 16:11 ============ Jdg 16:11 And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.(KJV) Judges 16:11 Then he answered her, If they binde mee with newe ropes that neuer were occupied, then shal I be weake, and be as an other man.(Geneva) Juges 16:11 Il lui dit: Si on me liait avec des cordes neuves, dont on ne se fût jamais servi, je deviendrais faible et je serais comme un autre homme.(FR) 11 ׃16 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלֶ֔יהָ אִם־אָס֤וֹר יַאַסְר֙וּנִי֙ בַּעֲבֹתִ֣ים חֲדָשִׁ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹֽא־נַעֲשָׂ֥ה בָהֶ֖ם מְלָאכָ֑ה וְחָלִ֥יתִי וְהָיִ֖יתִי כְּאַחַ֥ד הָאָדָֽם׃ Judges Jdg 16:11 He said to her, "If they bind me tightly with new ropes which have not been used, then I will become weak and be like any other man."(nasb) ======= Judges 16:12 ============ Jdg 16:12 Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.(KJV) Judges 16:12 Delilah therefore tooke newe ropes, and bounde him therewith, and saide vnto him, The Philistims be vpon thee, Samson: (and men lay in wayte in the chamber) and hee brake them from his armes, as a threede.(Geneva) Juges 16:12 Delila prit des cordes neuves, avec lesquelles elle le lia. For the men were lying in wait in the inner room. But he snapped the ropes from his arms like a thread.(nasb) ======= Judges 16:13 ============ Jdg 16:13 And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.(KJV) Judges 16:13 Afterward Delilah said to Samson, Hitherto thou hast beguiled mee, and tolde me lies: tell me how thou mightest be bounde. And he sayde vnto her, If thou plattedst seuen lockes of mine head with the threedes of the woufe.(Geneva) Juges 16:13 Delila dit à Samson: Jusqu'à présent tu t'es joué de moi, tu m'as dit des mensonges. Déclare-moi avec quoi il faut te lier. Il lui dit: Tu n'as qu'à tisser les sept tresses de ma tête avec la chaîne du tissu.(FR) 13 ׃16 וַתֹּ֨אמֶר דְּלִילָ֜ה אֶל־שִׁמְשׁ֗וֹן עַד־הֵ֜נָּה הֵתַ֤לְתָּ בִּי֙ וַתְּדַבֵּ֤ר אֵלַי֙ כְּזָבִ֔ים הַגִּ֣ידָה לִּ֔י בַּמֶּ֖ה תֵּאָסֵ֑ר וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלֶ֔יהָ אִם־תַּאַרְגִ֗י אֶת־שֶׁ֛בַע מַחְלְפ֥וֹת רֹאשִׁ֖י עִם־הַמַּסָּֽכֶת׃ Judges Jdg 16:13 Then Delilah said to Samson, "Up to now you have deceived me and told me lies; tell me how you may be bound." And he said to her, "If you weave the seven locks of my hair with the web [and fasten it with a pin, then I will become weak and be like any other man."(nasb) ======= Judges 16:14 ============ Jdg 16:14 And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.(KJV) Judges 16:14 And she fastened it with a pinne, and saide vnto him, The Philistims be vpon thee, Samson; he awoke out of his sleepe, and went away with the pinne of the webbe and the woufe.(Geneva) Juges 16:14 Et elle les fixa par la cheville. Puis elle lui dit: Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson! Et il se réveilla de son sommeil, et il arracha la cheville du tissu et le tissu.(FR) 14 ׃16 וַתִּתְקַע֙ בַּיָּתֵ֔ד וַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו פְּלִשְׁתִּ֥ים עָלֶ֖יךָ שִׁמְשׁ֑וֹן וַיִּיקַץ֙ מִשְּׁנָת֔וֹ וַיִּסַּ֛ע אֶת־הַיְתַ֥ד הָאֶ֖רֶג וְאֶת־הַמַּסָּֽכֶת׃ Judges Jdg 16:14 So while he slept, Delilah took the seven locks of his hair and wove them into the web]. And she fastened it with the pin and said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" But he awoke from his sleep and pulled out the pin of the loom and the web. (nasb) ======= Judges 16:15 ============ Jdg 16:15 And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.(KJV) Judges 16:15 Againe shee sayde vnto him, Howe canst thou say, I loue thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked mee these three times, and hast not tolde me wherein thy great strength lieth.(Geneva) Juges 16:15 Elle lui dit: Comment peux-tu dire: Je t'aime! puisque ton coeur n'est pas avec moi? Voilà trois fois que tu t'es joué de moi, et tu ne m'as pas déclaré d'où vient ta grande force.(FR) 15 ׃16 וַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֗יו אֵ֚יךְ תֹּאמַ֣ר אֲהַבְתִּ֔יךְ וְלִבְּךָ֖ אֵ֣ין אִתִּ֑י זֶ֣ה שָׁלֹ֤שׁ פְּעָמִים֙ הֵתַ֣לְתָּ בִּ֔י וְלֹא־הִגַּ֣דְתָּ לִּ֔י בַּמֶּ֖ה כֹּחֲךָ֥ גָדֽוֹל׃ Judges Jdg 16:15 Then she said to him, "How can you say, 'I love you,' when your heart is not with me? You have deceived me these three times and have not told me where your great strength is."(nasb) ======= Judges 16:16 ============ Jdg 16:16 And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;(KJV) Judges 16:16 And because shee was importunate vpon him with her wordes continually, and vexed him, his soule was pained vnto the death.(Geneva) Juges 16:16 Comme elle était chaque jour à le tourmenter et à l'importuner par ses instances, son âme s'impatienta à la mort,(FR) 16 ׃16 וַ֠יְהִי כִּֽי־הֵצִ֨יקָה לּ֧וֹ בִדְבָרֶ֛יהָ כָּל־הַיָּמִ֖ים וַתְּאַֽלֲצֵ֑הוּ וַתִּקְצַ֥ר נַפְשׁ֖וֹ לָמֽוּת׃ Judges Jdg 16:16 It came about when she pressed him daily with her words and urged him, that his soul was annoyed to death.(nasb) ======= Judges 16:17 ============ Jdg 16:17 That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.(KJV) Judges 16:17 Therefore he tolde her all his heart, and said vnto her, There neuer came rasor vpon mine head: for I am a Nazarite vnto God from my mothers wombe: therefore if I bee shauen, my strength will goe from me, and I shalbe weake, and be like all other men.(Geneva) Juges 16:17 il lui ouvrit tout son coeur, et lui dit: Le rasoir n'a point passé sur ma tête, parce que je suis consacré à Dieu dès le ventre de ma mère. Si j'étais rasé, ma force m'abandonnerait, je deviendrais faible, et je serais comme tout autre homme.(FR) 17 ׃16 וַיַּגֶּד־לָ֣הּ אֶת־כָּל־לִבּ֗וֹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָהּ֙ מוֹרָה֙ לֹֽא־עָלָ֣ה עַל־רֹאשִׁ֔י כִּֽי־נְזִ֧יר אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֲנִ֖י מִבֶּ֣טֶן אִמִּ֑י אִם־גֻּלַּ֙חְתִּי֙ וְסָ֣ר מִמֶּ֣נִּי כֹחִ֔י וְחָלִ֥יתִי וְהָיִ֖יתִי כְּכָל־הָאָדָֽם׃ Judges Jdg 16:17 So he told her all that was in his heart and said to her, "A razor has never come on my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother's womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will leave me and I will become weak and be like any other man."(nasb) ======= Judges 16:18 ============ Jdg 16:18 And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.(KJV) Judges 16:18 And when Delilah sawe that he had tolde her all his heart, she sent, and called for the Princes of ye Philistims, saying, Come vp once againe: for he hath shewed mee all his heart. Then the Princes of the Philistims came vp vnto her, and brought the money in their handes.(Geneva) Juges 16:18 Delila, voyant qu'il lui avait ouvert tout son coeur, envoya appeler les princes des Philistins, et leur fit dire: Montez cette fois, car il m'a ouvert tout son coeur. Et les princes des Philistins montèrent vers elle, et apportèrent l'argent dans leurs mains.(FR) 18 ׃16 וַתֵּ֣רֶא דְלִילָ֗ה כִּֽי־הִגִּ֣יד לָהּ֮ אֶת־כָּל־לִבּוֹ֒ וַתִּשְׁלַ֡ח וַתִּקְרָא֩ לְסַרְנֵ֨י פְלִשְׁתִּ֤ים לֵאמֹר֙ עֲל֣וּ הַפַּ֔עַם כִּֽי־הִגִּ֥יד *לה **לִ֖י אֶת־כָּל־לִבּ֑וֹ וְעָל֤וּ אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙ סַרְנֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וַיַּעֲל֥וּ הַכֶּ֖סֶף בְּיָדָֽם׃ Judges Jdg 16:18 When Delilah saw that he had told her all that was in his heart, she sent and called the lords of the Philistines, saying, "Come up once more, for he has told me all that is in his heart." Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hands.(nasb) ======= Judges 16:19 ============ Jdg 16:19 And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.(KJV) Judges 16:19 And she made him sleepe vpon her knees, and she called a man, and made him to shaue off the seuen lockes of his head, and shee began to vexe him, and his strength was gone from him.(Geneva) Juges 16:19 Elle l'endormit sur ses genoux. Et ayant appelé un homme, elle rasa les sept tresses de la tête de Samson, et commença ainsi à le dompter. Il perdit sa force.(FR) 19 ׃16 וַתְּיַשְּׁנֵ֙הוּ֙ עַל־בִּרְכֶּ֔יהָ וַתִּקְרָ֣א לָאִ֔ישׁ וַתְּגַלַּ֕ח אֶת־שֶׁ֖בַע מַחְלְפ֣וֹת רֹאשׁ֑וֹ וַתָּ֙חֶל֙ לְעַנּוֹת֔וֹ וַיָּ֥סַר כֹּח֖וֹ מֵעָלָֽיו׃ Judges Jdg 16:19 She made him sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his hair. Then she began to afflict him, and his strength left him.(nasb) ======= Judges 16:20 ============ Jdg 16:20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.(KJV) Judges 16:25 And when their heartes were mery, they said, Call Samson, that he may make vs pastime. So they called for Samson from the prison, and he entertained them. And about 3,000 men and women were on the roof looking on while Samson was amusing them. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. And he bent with all his might so that the house fell on the lords and all the people who were in it.
