Today's Date: ======= Judges 1:1 ============ Jdg 1:1 Now it came about after the death of Joshua that the sons of Israel inquired of the Lord, saying, "Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them?"(nasb) Jdg 1:1 καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὴν τελευτὴν Ἰησοῦ καὶ ἐπηρώτων οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ διὰ τοῦ κυρίου λέγοντες τίς ἀναβήσεται ἡμῖν πρὸς τοὺς Χαναναίους ἀφηγούμενος τοῦ πολεμῆσαι πρὸς αὐτούς (lxx) Jdg 1:1 Post mortem Josue, consuluerunt filii Israël Dominum, dicentes: Quis ascendet ante nos contra Chananæum, et erit dux belli?(vulgate) Jdg 1:1 Nach dem Tod Josuas fragten die Kinder Israel den HERRN und sprachen: Wer soll unter uns zuerst hinaufziehen, Krieg zu führen wider die Kanaaniter?(dhs) Jdg 1:1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, "Who shall be first to go up for us against the Canaanites to fight against them?"(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:2 ============ Jdg 1:2 The Lord said, "Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand."(nasb) Jdg 1:2 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος Ιουδας ἀναβήσεται ἰδοὺ δέδωκα τὴν γῆν ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ (lxx) Jdg 1:2 Dixitque Dominus: Judas ascendet: ecce tradidi terram in manus ejus.(vulgate) Jdg 1:2 Der HERR sprach: Juda soll hinaufziehen. Siehe, ich habe das Land in seine Hand gegeben.(dhs) Jdg 1:2 And the Lord said, "Judah shall go up. Indeed I have delivered the land into his hand."(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:3 ============ Jdg 1:3 Then Judah said to Simeon his brother, "Come up with me into the territory allotted me, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I in turn will go with you into the territory allotted you." So Simeon went with him.(nasb) Jdg 1:3 καὶ εἶπεν Ιουδας τῷ Συμεων ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ ἀνάβηθι μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ ἐν τῷ κλήρῳ μου καὶ παραταξώμεθα πρὸς τοὺς Χαναναίους καὶ πορεύσομαι κἀγὼ μετὰ σοῦ ἐν τῷ κλήρῳ σου καὶ ἐπορεύθη μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ Συμεων (lxx) Jdg 1:3 Et ait Judas Simeoni fratri suo: Ascende mecum in sortem meam, et pugna contra Chananæum, ut et ego pergam tecum in sortem tuam. Et abiit cum eo Simeon.~(vulgate) Jdg 1:3 Da sprach Juda zu seinem Bruder Simeon: Zieh mit mir hinauf in mein Los und laß uns wider die Kanaaniter streiten, so will ich wieder mit dir ziehen in dein Los. Also zog Simeon mit ihm.(dhs) Jdg 1:3 So Judah said to Simeon his brother, "Come up with me to my allotted territory, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I will likewise go with you to your allotted territory." And Simeon went with him.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:4 ============ Jdg 1:4 Judah went up, and the Lord gave the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hands, and they defeated ten thousand men at Bezek.(nasb) Jdg 1:4 καὶ ἀνέβη Ιουδας καὶ παρέδωκεν κύριος τὸν Χαναναῖον καὶ τὸν Φερεζαῖον εἰς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν καὶ ἔκοψαν αὐτοὺς ἐν Βεζεκ εἰς δέκα χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν (lxx) Jdg 1:4 Ascenditque Judas, et tradidit Dominus Chananæum ac Pherezæum in manus eorum: et percusserunt in Bezec decem millia virorum.(vulgate) Jdg 1:4 Da nun Juda hinaufzog, gab der HERR die Kanaaniter und Pheresiter in ihre Hände, und sie schlugen zu Besek zehntausend Mann.(dhs) Jdg 1:4 Then Judah went up, and the Lord delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand; and they killed ten thousand men at Bezek.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:5 ============ Jdg 1:5 They found Adoni-bezek in Bezek and fought against him, and they defeated the Canaanites and the Perizzites.(nasb) Jdg 1:5 καὶ κατέλαβον τὸν Αδωνιβεζεκ ἐν τῇ Βεζεκ καὶ παρετάξαντο πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ ἔκοψαν τὸν Χαναναῖον καὶ τὸν Φερεζαῖον (lxx) Jdg 1:5 Inveneruntque Adonibezec in Bezec, et pugnaverunt contra eum, ac percusserunt Chananæum et Pherezæum.(vulgate) Jdg 1:5 Und fanden den Adoni-Besek zu Besek und stritten wider ihn und schlugen die Kanaaniter und Pheresiter.(dhs) Jdg 1:5 And they found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and fought against him; and they defeated the Canaanites and the Perizzites.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:6 ============ Jdg 1:6 But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and big toes.(nasb) Jdg 1:6 καὶ ἔφυγεν Αδωνιβεζεκ καὶ κατέδραμον ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ καὶ κατελάβοσαν αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπέκοψαν τὰ ἄκρα τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ ἄκρα τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ (lxx) Jdg 1:6 Fugit autem Adonibezec: quem persecuti comprehenderunt, cæsis summitatibus manuum ejus ac pedum.(vulgate) Jdg 1:6 Aber Adoni-Besek floh, und sie jagten ihm nach; und da sie ihn ergriffen, hieben sie ihm die Daumen ab an seinen Händen und Füßen.(dhs) Jdg 1:6 Then Adoni-Bezek fled, and they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and big toes.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:7 ============ Jdg 1:7 Adoni-bezek said, "Seventy kings with their thumbs and their big toes cut off used to gather up scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me." So they brought him to Jerusalem and he died there.(nasb) Jdg 1:7 καὶ εἶπεν Αδωνιβεζεκ ἑβδομήκοντα βασιλεῖς τὰ ἄκρα τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ ἄκρα τῶν ποδῶν αὐτῶν ἀποκεκομμένοι ἦσαν συλλέγοντες τὰ ὑποκάτω τῆς τραπέζης μου καθὼς οὖν ἐποίησα οὕτως ἀνταπέδωκέν μοι ὁ θεός καὶ ἄγουσιν αὐτὸν εἰς Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἀπέθανεν ἐκεῖ (lxx) Jdg 1:7 Dixitque Adonibezec: Septuaginta reges amputatis manuum ac pedum summitatibus colligebant sub mensa mea ciborum reliquias: sicut feci, ita reddidit mihi Deus. Adduxeruntque eum in Jerusalem, et ibi mortuus est.(vulgate) Jdg 1:7 Da sprach Adoni-Besek: Siebzig Könige mit abgehauenen Daumen ihrer Hände und Füße lasen auf unter meinem Tisch. Wie ich nun getan habe, so hat mir Gott wieder vergolten. Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:8 ============ Jdg 1:8 Then the sons of Judah fought against Jerusalem and captured it and struck it with the edge of the sword and set the city on fire.(nasb) Jdg 1:8 καὶ ἐπολέμουν οἱ υἱοὶ Ιουδα τὴν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ κατελάβοντο αὐτὴν καὶ ἐπάταξαν αὐτὴν ἐν στόματι ῥομφαίας καὶ τὴν πόλιν ἐνέπρησαν ἐν πυρί (lxx) Jdg 1:8 Oppugnantes ergo filii Juda Jerusalem, ceperunt eam, et percusserunt in ore gladii, tradentes cunctam incendio civitatem.(vulgate) Jdg 1:8 Aber die Kinder Juda stritten wider Jerusalem und gewannen es und schlugen es mit der Schärfe des Schwerts und zündeten die Stadt an.(dhs) Jdg 1:8 Now the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem and took it; they struck it with the edge of the sword and set the city on fire.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:9 ============ Jdg 1:9 Afterward the sons of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites living in the hill country and in the Negev and in the lowland.(nasb) Jdg 1:9 καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα κατέβησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ιουδα τοῦ πολεμῆσαι πρὸς τὸν Χαναναῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα τὴν ὀρεινὴν καὶ τὸν νότον καὶ τὴν πεδινήν (lxx) Jdg 1:9 Et postea descendentes pugnaverunt contra Chananæum, qui habitabat in montanis, et ad meridiem, et in campestribus.(vulgate) Jdg 1:9 Darnach zogen die Kinder Juda herab, zu streiten wider die Kanaaniter, die auf dem Gebirge und gegen Mittag und in den Gründen wohnten.(dhs) Jdg 1:9 And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who dwelt in the mountains, in the South, and in the lowland.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:10 ============ Jdg 1:10 So Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron (now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba); and they struck Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.(nasb) Jdg 1:10 καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ιουδας πρὸς τὸν Χαναναῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα ἐν Χεβρων καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Χεβρων ἐξ ἐναντίας καὶ τὸ ὄνομα ἦν Χεβρων τὸ πρότερον Καριαθαρβοξεφερ καὶ ἐπάταξαν τὸν Σεσσι καὶ Αχινααν καὶ Θολμιν γεννήματα τοῦ Ενακ (lxx) Jdg 1:10 Pergensque Judas contra Chananæum, qui habitabat in Hebron (cujus nomen fuit antiquitus Cariath Arbe), percussit Sesai, et Ahiman, et Tholmai:(vulgate) Jdg 1:10 Und Juda zog hin wider die Kanaaniter, die zu Hebron wohnten (Hebron aber hieß vorzeiten Kirjath-Arba), und sie schlugen den Sesai und Ahiman und Thalmai.(dhs) Jdg 1:10 Then Judah went against the Canaanites who dwelt in Hebron. (Now the name of Hebron was formerly Kirjath Arba.) And they killed Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:11 ============ Jdg 1:11 Then from there he went against the inhabitants of Debir (now the name of Debir formerly was Kiriath-sepher).(nasb) Jdg 1:11 καὶ ἀνέβησαν ἐκεῖθεν πρὸς τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Δαβιρ τὸ δὲ ὄνομα τῆς Δαβιρ ἦν ἔμπροσθεν Καριαθσωφαρ πόλις γραμμάτων (lxx) Jdg 1:11 atque inde profectus abiit ad habitatores Dabir, cujus nomen vetus erat Cariath Sepher, id est, civitas litterarum.~(vulgate) Jdg 1:11 Und zogen von da wider die Einwohner zu Debir (Debir aber hieß vorzeiten Kirjath-Sepher).(dhs) Jdg 1:11 From there they went against the inhabitants of Debir. (The name of Debir was formerly Kirjath Sepher.)(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:12 ============ Jdg 1:12 And Caleb said, "The one who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will even give him my daughter Achsah for a wife."(nasb) Jdg 1:12 καὶ εἶπεν Χαλεβ ὃς ἐὰν πατάξῃ τὴν πόλιν τῶν γραμμάτων καὶ προκαταλάβηται αὐτήν δώσω αὐτῷ τὴν Ασχα θυγατέρα μου εἰς γυναῖκα (lxx) Jdg 1:12 Dixitque Caleb: Qui percusserit Cariath Sepher, et vastaverit eam, dabo ei Axam filiam meam uxorem.(vulgate) Jdg 1:12 Und Kaleb sprach: Wer Kirjath-Sepher schlägt und gewinnt, dem will ich meine Tochter Achsa zum Weibe geben.(dhs) Jdg 1:12 Then Caleb said, "Whoever attacks Kirjath Sepher and takes it, to him I will give my daughter Achsah as wife."(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:13 ============ Jdg 1:13 Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, captured it; so he gave him his daughter Achsah for a wife.(nasb) Jdg 1:13 καὶ προκατελάβετο αὐτὴν Γοθονιηλ υἱὸς Κενεζ ἀδελφοῦ Χαλεβ ὁ νεώτερος καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ Χαλεβ τὴν Ασχα θυγατέρα αὐτοῦ εἰς γυναῖκα (lxx) Jdg 1:13 Cumque cepisset eam Othoniel filius Cenez frater Caleb minor, dedit ei Axam filiam suam conjugem.(vulgate) Jdg 1:13 Da gewann es Othniel, der Sohn des Kenas, Kalebs jüngerer Bruder. Und er gab ihm sein Tochter Achsa zum Weibe.(dhs) Jdg 1:13 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; so he gave him his daughter Achsah as wife.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:14 ============ Jdg 1:14 Then it came about when she came to him, that she persuaded him to ask her father for a field. Then she alighted from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, "What do you want?"(nasb) Jdg 1:14 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῇ εἰσόδῳ αὐτῆς καὶ ἐπέσεισεν αὐτὴν Γοθονιηλ τοῦ αἰτῆσαι παρὰ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς ἀγρόν καὶ ἐγόγγυζεν καὶ ἔκραξεν ἀπὸ τοῦ ὑποζυγίου εἰς γῆν νότου ἐκδέδοσαί με καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ Χαλεβ τί ἐστίν σοι (lxx) Jdg 1:14 Quam pergentem in itinere monuit vir suus ut peteret a patre suo agrum. Quæ cum suspirasset sedens in asino, dixit ei Caleb: Quid habes?(vulgate) Jdg 1:14 Und es begab sich, da sie einzog, beredete sie ihn, einen Acker zu fordern von ihrem Vater. Und sie stieg vom Esel; da sprach Kaleb zu ihr: Was ist dir?(dhs) Jdg 1:14 Now it happened, when she came to him, that she urged him to ask her father for a field. And she dismounted from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, "What do you wish?"(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:15 ============ Jdg 1:15 She said to him, "Give me a blessing, since you have given me the land of the Negev, give me also springs of water." So Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.(nasb) Jdg 1:15 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ασχα δὸς δή μοι εὐλογίαν ὅτι εἰς γῆν νότου ἐκδέδοσαί με καὶ δώσεις μοι λύτρωσιν ὕδατος καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῇ Χαλεβ κατὰ τὴν καρδίαν αὐτῆς λύτρωσιν μετεώρων καὶ λύτρωσιν ταπεινῶν (lxx) Jdg 1:15 At illa respondit: Da mihi benedictionem, quia terram arentem dedisti mihi: da et irriguam aquis. Dedit ergo ei Caleb irriguum superius, et irriguum inferius.(vulgate) Jdg 1:15 Sie sprach: Gib mir einen Segen! Denn du hast mir ein Mittagsland gegeben; gib mir auch Wasserquellen! And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:16 ============ Jdg 1:16 The descendants of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up from the city of palms with the sons of Judah, to the wilderness of Judah which is in the south of Arad; and they went and lived with the people.(nasb) Jdg 1:16 καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ιοθορ τοῦ Κιναιου τοῦ γαμβροῦ Μωυσέως ἀνέβησαν ἐκ πόλεως τῶν φοινίκων μετὰ τῶν υἱῶν Ιουδα εἰς τὴν ἔρημον τὴν οὖσαν ἐν τῷ νότῳ Ιουδα ἥ ἐστιν ἐπὶ καταβάσεως Αραδ καὶ κατῴκησαν μετὰ τοῦ λαοῦ (lxx) Jdg 1:16 Filii autem Cinæi cognati Moysi ascenderunt de civitate palmarum cum filiis Juda, in desertum sortis ejus, quod est ad meridiem Arad, et habitaverunt cum eo.(vulgate) Jdg 1:16 Und die Kinder des Keniters, Mose's Schwagers, zogen herauf aus der Palmenstadt mit den Kindern Juda in die Wüste Juda, die da liegt gegen Mittag der Stadt Arad, und gingen hin und wohnten unter dem Volk.(dhs) Jdg 1:16 Now the children of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up from the City of Palms with the children of Judah into the Wilderness of Judah, which lies in the South near Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:17 ============ Jdg 1:17 Then Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they struck the Canaanites living in Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. So the name of the city was called Hormah.(nasb) Jdg 1:17 καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ιουδας μετὰ Συμεων τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔκοψεν τὸν Χαναναῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα Σεφεκ καὶ ἐξωλέθρευσαν αὐτούς καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα τῆς πόλεως Ἀνάθεμα (lxx) Jdg 1:17 Abiit autem Judas cum Simeone fratre suo, et percusserunt simul Chananæum qui habitabat in Sephaath, et interfecerunt eum. Vocatumque est nomen urbis, Horma, id est, anathema.(vulgate) Jdg 1:17 Und Juda zog hin mit seinem Bruder Simeon, und schlugen die Kanaaniter zu Zephath und verbannten sie und nannten die Stadt Horma.(dhs) Jdg 1:17 And Judah went with his brother Simeon, and they attacked the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. So the name of the city was called Hormah.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:18 ============ Jdg 1:18 And Judah took Gaza with its territory and Ashkelon with its territory and Ekron with its territory.(nasb) Jdg 1:18 καὶ οὐκ ἐκληρονόμησεν Ιουδας τὴν Γάζαν οὐδὲ τὰ ὅρια αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὴν Ἀσκαλῶνα οὐδὲ τὰ ὅρια αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὴν Ακκαρων οὐδὲ τὰ ὅρια αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὴν Ἄζωτον οὐδὲ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς (lxx) Jdg 1:18 Cepitque Judas Gazam cum finibus suis, et Ascalonem, atque Accaron cum terminis suis.(vulgate) Jdg 1:18 Dazu gewann Juda Gaza mit seinem Zugehör und Askalon mit seinem Zugehör und Ekron mit seinem Zugehör.(dhs) Jdg 1:18 Also Judah took Gaza with its territory, Ashkelon with its territory, and Ekron with its territory.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:19 ============ Jdg 1:19 Now the Lord was with Judah, and they took possession of the hill country; but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley because they had iron chariots.(nasb) Jdg 1:19 καὶ ἦν κύριος μετὰ Ιουδα καὶ ἐκληρονόμησεν τὸ ὄρος ὅτι οὐκ ἠδυνάσθησαν ἐξολεθρεῦσαι τοὺς κατοικοῦντας τὴν κοιλάδα ὅτι Ρηχαβ διεστείλατο αὐτοῖς (lxx) Jdg 1:19 Fuitque Dominus cum Juda, et montana possedit: nec potuit delere habitatores vallis, quia falcatis curribus abundabant.(vulgate) Jdg 1:19 Und der HERR war mit Juda, daß er das Gebirge einnahm; denn er konnte die Einwohner im Grunde nicht vertreiben, darum daß sie eiserne Wagen hatten.(dhs) Jdg 1:19 So the Lord was with Judah. And they drove out the mountaineers, but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the lowland, because they had chariots of iron.(nkjv) ======= Judges 1:20 ============ Jdg 1:20 Then they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had promised; and he drove out from there the three sons of Anak.(nasb) Jdg 1:20 καὶ ἔδωκαν τῷ Χαλεβ τὴν Χεβρων καθὼς ἐλάλησεν Μωυσῆς καὶ ἐκληρονόμησεν ἐκεῖθεν τὰς τρεῖς πόλεις τῶν υἱῶν Ενακ (lxx) Jdg 1:20 Dederuntque Caleb Hebron, sicut dixerat Moyses, qui delevit ex ea tres filios Enac.(vulgate) Jdg 1:20 Und sie gaben dem Kaleb Hebron, wie Mose gesagt hatte; und er vertrieb daraus die drei Söhne des Enak.(dhs) Jdg 1:20 And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had said.
