Today's Date: ======= Judges 3:1 ============ Jdg 3:1 Now these are the nations which the Lord left, to test Israel by them (that is, all who had not experienced any of the wars of Canaan;(nasb) Jdg 3:1 καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ἔθνη ἃ ἀφῆκεν κύριος αὐτὰ ὥστε πειράσαι ἐν αὐτοῖς τὸν Ισραηλ πάντας τοὺς μὴ ἐγνωκότας τοὺς πολέμους Χανααν (lxx) Jdg 3:1 Hæ sunt gentes quas Dominus dereliquit, ut erudiret in eis Israëlem, et omnes qui non noverant bella Chananæorum:(vulgate) Jdg 3:1 Dies sind die Heiden, die der HERR ließ bleiben, daß er durch sie Israel versuchte, alle, die nicht wußten um die Kriege Kanaans,(dhs) Jdg 3:1 Now these are the nations which the Lord left, that He might test Israel by them, that is, all who had not known any of the wars in Canaan(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:2 ============ Jdg 3:2 only in order that the generations of the sons of Israel might be taught war, those who had not experienced it formerly).(nasb) Jdg 3:2 πλὴν διὰ τὰς γενεὰς υἱῶν Ισραηλ τοῦ διδάξαι αὐτοὺς πόλεμον πλὴν οἱ ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν οὐκ ἔγνωσαν αὐτά (lxx) Jdg 3:2 ut postea discerent filii eorum certare cum hostibus, et habere consuetudinem præliandi:(vulgate) Jdg 3:2 und daß die Geschlechter der Kinder Israel wüßten und lernten streiten, die zuvor nichts darum wußten,(dhs) Jdg 3:2 (this was only so that the generations of the children of Israel might be taught to know war, at least those who had not formerly known it),(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:3 ============ Jdg 3:3 These nations are: the five lords of the Philistines and all the Canaanites and the Sidonians and the Hivites who lived in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon as far as Lebo-hamath.(nasb) Jdg 3:3 τὰς πέντε σατραπείας τῶν ἀλλοφύλων καὶ πάντα τὸν Χαναναῖον καὶ τὸν Σιδώνιον καὶ τὸν Ευαῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα τὸν Λίβανον ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄρους τοῦ Αερμων ἕως Λαβωεμαθ (lxx) Jdg 3:3 quinque satrapas Philisthinorum, omnemque Chananæum, et Sidonium, atque Hevæum, qui habitabat in monte Libano, de monte Baal Hermon usque ad introitum Emath.(vulgate) Jdg 3:3 nämlich die fünf Fürsten der Philister und alle Kanaaniter und Sidonier und Heviter, die am Berg Libanon wohnten, von dem Berg Baal-Hermon an, bis wo man kommt gen Hamath.(dhs) Jdg 3:3 namely, five lords of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites who dwelt in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon to the entrance of Hamath.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:4 ============ Jdg 3:4 They were for testing Israel, to find out if they would obey the commandments of the Lord, which He had commanded their fathers through Moses.(nasb) Jdg 3:4 καὶ ἐγένετο ὥστε πειράσαι ἐν αὐτοῖς τὸν Ισραηλ γνῶναι εἰ ἀκούσονται τὰς ἐντολὰς κυρίου ἃς ἐνετείλατο τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτῶν ἐν χειρὶ Μωυσῆ (lxx) Jdg 3:4 Dimisitque eos, ut in ipsis experiretur Israëlem, utrum audiret mandata Domini quæ præceperat patribus eorum per manum Moysi, an non.(vulgate) Jdg 3:4 Dieselben blieben, Israel durch sie zu versuchen, daß es kund würde, ob sie den Geboten des HERRN gehorchten, die er ihren Vätern geboten hatte durch Mose.(dhs) Jdg 3:4 And they were left, that He might test Israel by them, to know whether they would obey the commandments of the Lord, which He had commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:5 ============ Jdg 3:5 The sons of Israel lived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites;(nasb) Jdg 3:5 καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ κατῴκησαν ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ Χαναναίου καὶ τοῦ Χετταίου καὶ τοῦ Αμορραίου καὶ τοῦ Φερεζαίου καὶ τοῦ Ευαίου καὶ τοῦ Ιεβουσαίου (lxx) Jdg 3:5 Itaque filii Israël habitaverunt in medio Chananæi, et Hethæi, et Amorrhæi, et Pherezæi, et Hevæi, et Jebusæi:(vulgate) Jdg 3:5 Da nun die Kinder Israel also wohnten unter den Kanaanitern, Hethitern, Amoritern, Pheresitern, Hevitern und Jebusitern,(dhs) Jdg 3:5 Thus the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:6 ============ Jdg 3:6 and they took their daughters for themselves as wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.(nasb) Jdg 3:6 καὶ ἔλαβον τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτῶν ἑαυτοῖς εἰς γυναῖκας καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτῶν ἔδωκαν τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτῶν καὶ ἐλάτρευσαν τοῖς θεοῖς αὐτῶν (lxx) Jdg 3:6 et duxerunt uxores filias eorum, ipsique filias suas filiis eorum tradiderunt, et servierunt diis eorum.~(vulgate) Jdg 3:6 nahmen sie jener Töchter zu Weibern und gaben ihre Töchter jener Söhnen und dienten jener Göttern.(dhs) Jdg 3:6 And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons; and they served their gods.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:7 ============ Jdg 3:7 The sons of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth.(nasb) Jdg 3:7 καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τὸ πονηρὸν ἐναντίον κυρίου καὶ ἐπελάθοντο κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐλάτρευσαν τοῖς Βααλιμ καὶ τοῖς ἄλσεσιν (lxx) Jdg 3:7 Feceruntque malum in conspectu Domini, et obliti sunt Dei sui, servientes Baalim et Astaroth.(vulgate) Jdg 3:7 Und die Kinder Israel taten übel vor dem HERRN und vergaßen des HERRN, ihres Gottes, und dienten den Baalim und den Ascheroth.(dhs) Jdg 3:7 So the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God, and served the Baals and Asherahs.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:8 ============ Jdg 3:8 Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, so that He sold them into the hands of Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the sons of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years.(nasb) Jdg 3:8 καὶ ὠργίσθη θυμῷ κύριος ἐν τῷ Ισραηλ καὶ ἀπέδοτο αὐτοὺς ἐν χειρὶ Χουσαρσαθαιμ βασιλέως Συρίας ποταμῶν καὶ ἐδούλευσαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τῷ Χουσαρσαθαιμ ἔτη ὀκτώ (lxx) Jdg 3:8 Iratusque contra Israël Dominus, tradidit eos in manus Chusan Rasathaim regis Mesopotamiæ, servieruntque ei octo annis.(vulgate) Jdg 3:8 Da ergrimmte der Zorn des HERRN über Israel, und er verkaufte sie unter die Hand Kusan-Risathaims, des Königs von Mesopotamien; und dienten also die Kinder Israel dem Kusan-Risathaim acht Jahre.(dhs) Jdg 3:8 Therefore the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and He sold them into the hand of Cushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the children of Israel served Cushan-Rishathaim eight years.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:9 ============ Jdg 3:9 When the sons of Israel cried to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for the sons of Israel to deliver them, Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.(nasb) Jdg 3:9 καὶ ἐκέκραξαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πρὸς κύριον καὶ ἤγειρεν κύριος σωτῆρα τῷ Ισραηλ καὶ ἔσωσεν αὐτούς τὸν Γοθονιηλ υἱὸν Κενεζ ἀδελφοῦ Χαλεβ τὸν νεώτερον ὑπὲρ αὐτόν (lxx) Jdg 3:9 Et clamaverunt ad Dominum, qui suscitavit eis salvatorem, et liberavit eos, Othoniel videlicet filium Cenez, fratrem Caleb minorem:(vulgate) Jdg 3:9 Da schrieen die Kinder Israel zu dem HERRN; und der HERR erweckte ihnen einen Heiland, der sie erlöste; Othniel, den Sohn Kenas, Kalebs jüngsten Bruder.(dhs) Jdg 3:9 When the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for the children of Israel, who delivered them: Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:10 ============ Jdg 3:10 The Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel. When he went out to war, the Lord gave Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand, so that he prevailed over Cushan-rishathaim.(nasb) Jdg 3:10 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν πνεῦμα κυρίου καὶ ἔκρινεν τὸν Ισραηλ καὶ ἐξῆλθεν εἰς πόλεμον πρὸς Χουσαρσαθαιμ καὶ παρέδωκεν κύριος ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ τὸν Χουσαρσαθαιμ βασιλέα Συρίας ποταμῶν καὶ ἐκραταιώθη ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὸν Χουσαρσαθαιμ (lxx) Jdg 3:10 fuitque in eo spiritus Domini, et judicavit Israël. Egressusque est ad pugnam, et tradidit Dominus in manus ejus Chusan Rasathaim regem Syriæ, et oppressit eum.(vulgate) Jdg 3:10 Und der Geist des HERRN kam auf ihn, und er ward Richter in Israel und zog aus zum Streit. Und der HERR gab den König von Mesopotamien, Kusan-Risathaim, in seine Hand, daß seine Hand über ihn zu stark ward.(dhs) Jdg 3:10 The Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel. He went out to war, and the Lord delivered Cushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed over Cushan-Rishathaim.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:11 ============ Jdg 3:11 Then the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.(nasb) Jdg 3:11 καὶ ἡσύχασεν ἡ γῆ τεσσαράκοντα ἔτη καὶ ἀπέθανεν Γοθονιηλ υἱὸς Κενεζ (lxx) Jdg 3:11 Quievitque terra quadraginta annis, et mortuus est Othoniel filius Cenez.~(vulgate) Jdg 3:11 Da ward das Land still vierzig Jahre. Und Othniel, der Sohn Kenas, starb.(dhs) Jdg 3:11 So the land had rest for forty years. Then Othniel the son of Kenaz died.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:12 ============ Jdg 3:12 Now the sons of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord. So the Lord strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the Lord.(nasb) Jdg 3:12 καὶ προσέθεντο οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ποιῆσαι τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον κυρίου καὶ ἐνίσχυσεν κύριος τὸν Εγλωμ βασιλέα Μωαβ ἐπὶ τὸν Ισραηλ διὰ τὸ πεποιηκέναι αὐτοὺς τὸ πονηρὸν ἔναντι κυρίου (lxx) Jdg 3:12 Addiderunt autem filii Israël facere malum in conspectu Domini: qui confortavit adversum eos Eglon regem Moab, quia fecerunt malum in conspectu ejus.(vulgate) Jdg 3:12 Aber die Kinder Israel taten fürder übel vor dem HERRN. Da stärkte der HERR den Eglon, den König der Moabiter, wider Israel, darum daß sie übel taten vor dem HERRN.(dhs) Jdg 3:12 And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord. So the Lord strengthened Eglon king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the Lord.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:13 ============ Jdg 3:13 And he gathered to himself the sons of Ammon and Amalek; and he went and defeated Israel, and they possessed the city of the palm trees.(nasb) Jdg 3:13 καὶ συνήγαγεν πρὸς ἑαυτὸν πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς Αμμων καὶ Αμαληκ καὶ ἐπορεύθη καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὸν Ισραηλ καὶ ἐκληρονόμησεν τὴν πόλιν τῶν φοινίκων (lxx) Jdg 3:13 Et copulavit ei filios Ammon, et Amalec: abiitque et percussit Israël, atque possedit urbem palmarum.(vulgate) Jdg 3:13 Und er sammelte zu sich die Kinder Ammon und die Amalekiter und zog hin und schlug Israel und nahm ein die Palmenstadt.(dhs) Jdg 3:13 Then he gathered to himself the people of Ammon and Amalek, went and defeated Israel, and took possession of the City of Palms.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:14 ============ Jdg 3:14 The sons of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.(nasb) Jdg 3:14 καὶ ἐδούλευσαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τῷ Εγλωμ βασιλεῖ Μωαβ ἔτη δέκα ὀκτώ (lxx) Jdg 3:14 Servieruntque filii Israël Eglon regi Moab decem et octo annis.(vulgate) Jdg 3:14 Und die Kinder Israel dienten Eglon, dem König der Moabiter, achtzehn Jahre.(dhs) Jdg 3:14 So the children of Israel served Eglon king of Moab eighteen years.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:15 ============ Jdg 3:15 But when the sons of Israel cried to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for them, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed man. And the sons of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab.(nasb) Jdg 3:15 καὶ ἐκέκραξαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πρὸς κύριον καὶ ἤγειρεν αὐτοῖς σωτῆρα τὸν Αωδ υἱὸν Γηρα υἱὸν τοῦ Ιεμενι ἄνδρα ἀμφοτεροδέξιον καὶ ἐξαπέστειλαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ δῶρα ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ τῷ Εγλωμ βασιλεῖ Μωαβ (lxx) Jdg 3:15 Et postea clamaverunt ad Dominum, qui suscitavit eis salvatorem vocabulo Aod, filium Gera, filii Jemini, qui utraque manu pro dextera utebatur. Miseruntque filii Israël per illum munera Eglon regi Moab.(vulgate) Jdg 3:15 Da schrieen sie zu dem HERRN; und der HERR erweckte ihnen einen Heiland: Ehud, den Sohn Geras, den Benjaminiten, der war links. Und da die Kinder Israel durch ihn Geschenk sandten Eglon, dem König der Moabiter,(dhs) Jdg 3:15 But when the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for them: Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed man. By him the children of Israel sent tribute to Eglon king of Moab.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:16 ============ Jdg 3:16 Ehud made himself a sword which had two edges, a cubit in length, and he bound it on his right thigh under his cloak.(nasb) Jdg 3:16 καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑαυτῷ Αωδ μάχαιραν δίστομον σπιθαμῆς τὸ μῆκος αὐτῆς καὶ περιεζώσατο αὐτὴν ὑπὸ τὸν μανδύαν ἐπὶ τὸν μηρὸν τὸν δεξιὸν αὐτοῦ (lxx) Jdg 3:16 Qui fecit sibi gladium ancipitem, habentem in medio capulum longitudinis palmæ manus, et accinctus est eo subter sagum in dextro femore.(vulgate) Jdg 3:16 machte sich Ehud ein zweischneidig Schwert, eine Elle lang, und gürtete es unter sein Kleid auf seine rechte Hüfte(dhs) Jdg 3:16 Now Ehud made himself a dagger (it was double-edged and a cubit in length) and fastened it under his clothes on his right thigh.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:17 ============ Jdg 3:17 He presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. Now Eglon was a very fat man.(nasb) Jdg 3:17 καὶ ἐπορεύθη καὶ προσήνεγκεν τὰ δῶρα τῷ Εγλωμ βασιλεῖ Μωαβ καὶ Εγλωμ ἀνὴρ ἀστεῖος σφόδρα (lxx) Jdg 3:17 Obtulitque munera Eglon regi Moab. Erat autem Eglon crassus nimis.(vulgate) Jdg 3:17 und brachte das Geschenk dem Eglon, dem König der Moabiter. Eglon aber war ein sehr fetter Mann.(dhs) Jdg 3:17 So he brought the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. (Now Eglon was a very fat man.)(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:18 ============ Jdg 3:18 It came about when he had finished presenting the tribute, that he sent away the people who had carried the tribute.(nasb) Jdg 3:18 καὶ ἐγένετο ἡνίκα συνετέλεσεν Αωδ προσφέρων τὰ δῶρα καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν τοὺς φέροντας τὰ δῶρα (lxx) Jdg 3:18 Cumque obtulisset ei munera, prosecutus est socios, qui cum eo venerant.(vulgate) Jdg 3:18 Und da er das Geschenk hatte überantwortet, ließ er das Volk von sich, die das Geschenk getragen hatten,(dhs) Jdg 3:18 And when he had finished presenting the tribute, he sent away the people who had carried the tribute.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:19 ============ Jdg 3:19 But he himself turned back from the idols which were at Gilgal, and said, "I have a secret message for you, O king." And he said, "Keep silence." And all who attended him left him.(nasb) Jdg 3:19 καὶ αὐτὸς ὑπέστρεψεν ἀπὸ τῶν γλυπτῶν τῶν μετὰ τῆς Γαλγαλ καὶ εἶπεν Αωδ λόγος μοι κρύφιος πρὸς σέ βασιλεῦ καὶ εἶπεν Εγλωμ πρὸς αὐτόν σιώπα καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν ἀφ᾽ ἑαυτοῦ πάντας τοὺς ἐφεστῶτας ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν (lxx) Jdg 3:19 Et reversus de Galgalis, ubi erant idola, dixit ad regem: Verbum secretum habeo ad te, o rex. Et ille imperavit silentium: egressisque omnibus qui circa eum erant,(vulgate) Jdg 3:19 und kehrte um von den Götzen zu Gilgal und ließ ansagen: Ich habe, o König, dir was Heimliches zu sagen. Er aber hieß schweigen, und gingen aus von ihm alle, die um ihn standen.(dhs) Jdg 3:19 But he himself turned back from the stone images that were at Gilgal, and said, "I have a secret message for you, O king." He said, "Keep silence!" And all who attended him went out from him.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:20 ============ Jdg 3:20 Ehud came to him while he was sitting alone in his cool roof chamber. And Ehud said, "I have a message from God for you." And he arose from his seat.(nasb) Jdg 3:20 καὶ Αωδ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ αὐτὸς ἐκάθητο ἐν τῷ ὑπερῴῳ τῷ θερινῷ τῷ ἑαυτοῦ μονώτατος καὶ εἶπεν Αωδ λόγος θεοῦ μοι πρὸς σέ βασιλεῦ καὶ ἐξανέστη ἀπὸ τοῦ θρόνου Εγλωμ ἐγγὺς αὐτοῦ (lxx) Jdg 3:20 ingressus est Aod ad eum: sedebat autem in æstivo cœnaculo solus: dixitque: Verbum Dei habeo ad te. Qui statim surrexit de throno.(vulgate) Jdg 3:20 Und Ehud kam zu ihm hinein. Er aber saß oben in der Sommerlaube, die für ihn allein war. Und Ehud sprach: Ich habe Gottes Wort an dich. Da stand er auf vom Stuhl.(dhs) Jdg 3:20 And Ehud came to him (now he was sitting upstairs in his cool private chamber). Then Ehud said, "I have a message from God for you." So he arose from his seat.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:21 ============ Jdg 3:21 Ehud stretched out his left hand, took the sword from his right thigh and thrust it into his belly.(nasb) Jdg 3:21 καὶ ἐγένετο ἅμα τῷ ἀναστῆναι αὐτὸν καὶ ἐξέτεινεν Αωδ τὴν χεῖρα τὴν ἀριστερὰν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν μάχαιραν ἐπάνωθεν τοῦ μηροῦ αὐτοῦ τοῦ δεξιοῦ καὶ ἐνέπηξεν αὐτὴν ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ αὐτοῦ (lxx) Jdg 3:21 Extenditque Aod sinistram manum, et tulit sicam de dextro femore suo, infixitque eam in ventre ejus(vulgate) Jdg 3:21 Ehud aber reckte seine linke Hand aus und nahm das Schwert von seiner rechten Hüfte und stieß es ihm in seinen Bauch,(dhs) Jdg 3:21 Then Ehud reached with his left hand, took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly.(nkjv) ======= Judges 3:22 ============ Jdg 3:22 The handle also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not draw the sword out of his belly; and the refuse came out.(nasb) Jdg 3:22 καὶ ἐπεισήνεγκεν καί γε τὴν λαβὴν ὀπίσω τῆς φλογός καὶ ἀπέκλεισεν τὸ στέαρ κατὰ τῆς φλογός ὅτι οὐκ ἐξέσπασεν τὴν μάχαιραν ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Αωδ τὴν προστάδα (lxx) Jdg 3:22 tam valide, ut capulus sequeretur ferrum in vulnere, ac pinguissimo adipe stringeretur.
