And the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 31:3 ============ 1Sa 31:3 The battle went heavily against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was badly wounded by the archers.(nas) 1Sa 31:3 καὶ βαρύνεται ὁ πόλεμος ἐπὶ Σαουλ καὶ εὑρίσκουσιν αὐτὸν οἱ ἀκοντισταί ἄνδρες τοξόται καὶ ἐτραυματίσθη εἰς τὰ ὑποχόνδρια (lxx) 1Sa 31:3 totumque pondus prælii versum est in Saul, et consecuti sunt eum viri sagittarii, et vulneratus est vehementer a sagittariis.(vulgate) 3 ׃31 וַתִּכְבַּ֤ד הַמִּלְחָמָה֙ אֶל־שָׁא֔וּל וַיִּמְצָאֻ֥הוּ הַמּוֹרִ֖ים אֲנָשִׁ֣ים בַּקָּ֑שֶׁת וַיָּ֥חֶל מְאֹ֖ד מֵהַמּוֹרִֽים׃ Samuel1 1Sa 31:3 Und der Streit ward hart wider Saul, und die Schützen trafen auf ihn mit Bogen, und er ward sehr verwundet von den Schützen.(dhs) 1Sa 31:3 The battle became fierce against Saul. The archers hit him, and he was severely wounded by the archers.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 31:4 ============ 1Sa 31:4 Then Saul said to his armor bearer, "Draw your sword and pierce me through with it, otherwise these uncircumcised will come and pierce me through and make sport of me." But his armor bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. So Saul took his sword and fell on it.(nas) 1Sa 31:4 καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ πρὸς τὸν αἴροντα τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ σπάσαι τὴν ῥομφαίαν σου καὶ ἀποκέντησόν με ἐν αὐτῇ μὴ ἔλθωσιν οἱ ἀπερίτμητοι οὗτοι καὶ ἀποκεντήσωσίν με καὶ ἐμπαίξωσίν μοι καὶ οὐκ ἐβούλετο ὁ αἴρων τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἐφοβήθη σφόδρα καὶ ἔλαβεν Σαουλ τὴν ῥομφαίαν καὶ ἐπέπεσεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτήν (lxx) 1Sa 31:4 Dixitque Saul ad armigerum suum: Evagina gladium tuum, et percute me: ne forte veniant incircumcisi isti, et interficiant me, illudentes mihi. Et noluit armiger ejus: fuerat enim nimio terrore perterritus. Arripuit itaque Saul gladium, et irruit super eum.(vulgate) 4 ׃31 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שָׁאוּל֩ לְנֹשֵׂ֨א כֵלָ֜יו שְׁלֹ֥ף חַרְבְּךָ֣ ׀ וְדָקְרֵ֣נִי בָ֗הּ פֶּן־יָ֠בוֹאוּ הָעֲרֵלִ֨ים הָאֵ֤לֶּה וּדְקָרֻ֙נִי֙ וְהִתְעַלְּלוּ־בִ֔י וְלֹ֤א אָבָה֙ נֹשֵׂ֣א כֵלָ֔יו כִּ֥י יָרֵ֖א מְאֹ֑ד וַיִּקַּ֤ח שָׁאוּל֙ אֶת־הַחֶ֔רֶב וַיִּפֹּ֖ל עָלֶֽיהָ׃ Samuel1 1Sa 31:4 Da sprach Saul zu seinem Waffenträger: Zieh dein Schwert aus und erstich mich damit, daß nicht diese Unbeschnittenen kommen und mich erstechen und treiben ihren Spott mit mir. Aber sein Waffenträger wollte nicht; denn er fürchtete sich sehr. Da nahm Saul das Schwert und fiel hinein.(dhs) 1Sa 31:4 Then Saul said to his armorbearer, "Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and thrust me through and abuse me." But his armorbearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword and fell on it.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 31:5 ============ 1Sa 31:5 When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died with him.(nas) 1Sa 31:5 καὶ εἶδεν ὁ αἴρων τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ ὅτι τέθνηκεν Σαουλ καὶ ἐπέπεσεν καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπὶ τὴν ῥομφαίαν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπέθανεν μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ (lxx) 1Sa 31:5 Quod cum vidisset armiger ejus, videlicet quod mortuus esset Saul, irruit etiam ipse super gladium suum, et mortuus est cum eo.(vulgate) 5 ׃31 וַיַּ֥רְא נֹשֵֽׂא־כֵלָ֖יו כִּ֣י מֵ֣ת שָׁא֑וּל וַיִּפֹּ֥ל גַּם־ה֛וּא עַל־חַרְבּ֖וֹ וַיָּ֥מָת עִמּֽוֹ׃ Samuel1 1Sa 31:5 Da nun sein Waffenträger sah, daß Saul tot war, fiel er auch in sein Schwert und starb mit ihm.(dhs) 1Sa 31:5 And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword, and died with him.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 31:6 ============ 1Sa 31:6 Thus Saul died with his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men on that day together.(nas) 1Sa 31:6 καὶ ἀπέθανεν Σαουλ καὶ οἱ τρεῖς υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ ὁ αἴρων τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ κατὰ τὸ αὐτό (lxx) 1Sa 31:6 Mortuus est ergo Saul, et tres filii ejus, et armiger illius, et universi viri ejus in die illa pariter.(vulgate) 6 ׃31 וַיָּ֣מָת שָׁא֡וּל וּשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת בָּנָיו֩ וְנֹשֵׂ֨א כֵלָ֜יו גַּ֧ם כָּל־אֲנָשָׁ֛יו בַּיּ֥וֹם הַה֖וּא יַחְדָּֽו׃ Samuel1 1Sa 31:6 Also starb Saul und seine drei Söhne und sein Waffenträger und alle seine Männer zugleich auf diesen Tag.(dhs) 1Sa 31:6 So Saul, his three sons, his armorbearer, and all his men died together that same day.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 31:7 ============ 1Sa 31:7 When the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, with those who were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled; then the Philistines came and lived in them.(nas) 1Sa 31:7 καὶ εἶδον οἱ ἄνδρες Ισραηλ οἱ ἐν τῷ πέραν τῆς κοιλάδος καὶ οἱ ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ Ιορδάνου ὅτι ἔφυγον οἱ ἄνδρες Ισραηλ καὶ ὅτι τέθνηκεν Σαουλ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ καταλείπουσιν τὰς πόλεις αὐτῶν καὶ φεύγουσιν καὶ ἔρχονται οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι καὶ κατοικοῦσιν ἐν αὐταῖς (lxx) 1Sa 31:7 Videntes autem viri Israël qui erant trans vallem et trans Jordanem, quod fugissent viri Israëlitæ, et quod mortuus esset Saul et filii ejus, reliquerunt civitates suas, et fugerunt: veneruntque Philisthiim, et habitaverunt ibi.(vulgate) 7 ׃31 וַיִּרְא֣וּ אַנְשֵֽׁי־יִ֠שְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר־בְּעֵ֨בֶר הָעֵ֜מֶק וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀ בְּעֵ֣בֶר הַיַּרְדֵּ֗ן כִּֽי־נָ֙סוּ֙ אַנְשֵׁ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְכִי־מֵ֖תוּ שָׁא֣וּל וּבָנָ֑יו וַיַּעַזְב֤וּ אֶת־הֶֽעָרִים֙ וַיָּנֻ֔סוּ וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וַיֵּֽשְׁב֖וּ בָּהֶֽן׃ ס Samuel1 1Sa 31:7 Da aber die Männer Israels, die jenseits des Grundes und gegen den Jordan hin waren, sahen, daß die Männer Israels geflohen waren, und daß Saul und seine Söhne tot waren, verließen sie die Städte und flohen auch; so kamen die Philister und wohnten darin.(dhs) 1Sa 31:7 And when the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, and those who were on the other side of the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 31:8 ============ 1Sa 31:8 It came about on the next day when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.(nas) 1Sa 31:8 καὶ ἐγενήθη τῇ ἐπαύριον καὶ ἔρχονται οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι ἐκδιδύσκειν τοὺς νεκροὺς καὶ εὑρίσκουσιν τὸν Σαουλ καὶ τοὺς τρεῖς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ πεπτωκότας ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη Γελβουε (lxx) 1Sa 31:8 Facta autem die altera, venerunt Philisthiim ut spoliarent interfectos, et invenerunt Saul et tres filios ejus jacentes in monte Gelboë.(vulgate) 8 ׃31 וַֽיְהִי֙ מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים לְפַשֵּׁ֖ט אֶת־הַחֲלָלִ֑ים וֽ͏ַיִּמְצְא֤וּ אֶת־שָׁאוּל֙ וְאֶת־שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת בָּנָ֔יו נֹפְלִ֖ים בְּהַ֥ר הַגִּלְבֹּֽעַ׃ Samuel1 1Sa 31:8 Des andern Tages kamen die Philister, die Erschlagenen auszuziehen, und fanden Saul und seine drei Söhne liegen auf dem Gebirge Gilboa(dhs) 1Sa 31:8 So it happened the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 31:9 ============ 1Sa 31:9 They cut off his head and stripped off his weapons, and sent them throughout the land of the Philistines, to carry the good news to the house of their idols and to the people.(nas) 1Sa 31:9 καὶ ἀποστρέφουσιν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐξέδυσαν τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀποστέλλουσιν αὐτὰ εἰς γῆν ἀλλοφύλων κύκλῳ εὐαγγελίζοντες τοῖς εἰδώλοις αὐτῶν καὶ τῷ λαῷ αὐτῶν (lxx) 1Sa 31:9 Et præciderunt caput Saul, et spoliaverunt eum armis: et miserunt in terram Philisthinorum per circuitum, ut annuntiaretur in templo idolorum, et in populis.(vulgate) 9 ׃31 וַֽיִּכְרְתוּ֙ אֶת־רֹאשׁ֔וֹ וַיַּפְשִׁ֖יטוּ אֶת־כֵּלָ֑יו וַיְשַׁלְּח֨וּ בְאֶֽרֶץ־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֜ים סָבִ֗יב לְבַשֵּׂ֛ר בֵּ֥ית עֲצַבֵּיהֶ֖ם וְאֶת־הָעָֽם׃ Samuel1 1Sa 31:9 und hieben ihm sein Haupt ab und zogen ihm seine Waffen ab und sandten sie in der Philister Land umher, zu verkündigen im Hause ihrer Götzen und unter dem Volk,(dhs) 1Sa 31:9 And they cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and sent word throughout the land of the Philistines, to proclaim it in the temple of their idols and among the people.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 31:10 ============ 1Sa 31:10 They put his weapons in the temple of Ashtaroth, and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.(nas) 1Sa 31:10 καὶ ἀνέθηκαν τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ Ἀσταρτεῖον καὶ τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ κατέπηξαν ἐν τῷ τείχει Βαιθσαν (lxx) 1Sa 31:10 Et posuerunt arma ejus in templo Astaroth, corpus vero ejus suspenderunt in muro Bethsan.(vulgate) 10 ׃31 וַיָּשִׂ֙מוּ֙ אֶת־כֵּלָ֔יו בֵּ֖ית עַשְׁתָּר֑וֹת וְאֶת־גְּוִיָּתוֹ֙ תָּקְע֔וּ בְּחוֹמַ֖ת בֵּ֥ית שָֽׁן׃ Samuel1 1Sa 31:10 und legten seine Rüstung in das Haus der Astharoth; aber seinen Leichnam hingen sie auf die Mauer zu Beth-Sean.(dhs) 1Sa 31:10 Then they put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths, and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 31:11 ============ 1Sa 31:11 Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,(nas) 1Sa 31:11 καὶ ἀκούουσιν οἱ κατοικοῦντες Ιαβις τῆς Γαλααδίτιδος ἃ ἐποίησαν οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι τῷ Σαουλ (lxx) 1Sa 31:11 Quod cum audissent habitatores Jabes Galaad, quæcumque fecerant Philisthiim Saul,(vulgate) 11 ׃31 וַיִּשְׁמְע֣וּ אֵלָ֔יו יֹשְׁבֵ֖י יָבֵ֣ישׁ גִּלְעָ֑ד אֵ֛ת אֲשֶׁר־עָשׂ֥וּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים לְשָׁאֽוּל׃ Samuel1 1Sa 31:11 Da die zu Jabes in Gilead hörten, was die Philister Saul getan hatten,(dhs) 1Sa 31:11 Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 31:12 ============ 1Sa 31:12 all the valiant men rose and walked all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and they came to Jabesh and burned them there.(nas) 1Sa 31:12 καὶ ἀνέστησαν πᾶς ἀνὴρ δυνάμεως καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν ὅλην τὴν νύκτα καὶ ἔλαβον τὸ σῶμα Σαουλ καὶ τὸ σῶμα Ιωναθαν τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τείχους Βαιθσαν καὶ φέρουσιν αὐτοὺς εἰς Ιαβις καὶ κατακαίουσιν αὐτοὺς ἐκεῖ (lxx) 1Sa 31:12 surrexerunt omnes viri fortissimi, et ambulaverunt tota nocte, et tulerunt cadaver Saul, et cadavera filiorum ejus, de muro Bethsan: veneruntque Jabes Galaad, et combusserunt ea ibi:(vulgate) 12 ׃31 וַיָּק֜וּמוּ כָּל־אִ֣ישׁ חַיִל֮ וַיֵּלְכ֣וּ כָל־הַלַּיְלָה֒ וַיִּקְח֞וּ אֶת־גְּוִיַּ֣ת שָׁא֗וּל וְאֵת֙ גְּוִיֹּ֣ת בָּנָ֔יו מֵחוֹמַ֖ת בֵּ֣ית שָׁ֑ן וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ יָבֵ֔שָׁה וַיִּשְׂרְפ֥וּ אֹתָ֖ם שָֽׁם׃ Samuel1 1Sa 31:12 machten sie sich auf, was streitbare Männer waren, und gingen die ganze Nacht und nahmen die Leichname Sauls und seiner Söhne von der Mauer zu Beth-Sean und brachten sie gen Jabes und verbrannten sie daselbst(dhs) 1Sa 31:12 all the valiant men arose and traveled all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth Shan; and they came to Jabesh and burned them there.(nkjv) ======= 1 Samuel 31:13 ============ 1Sa 31:13 They took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.(nas) 1Sa 31:13 καὶ λαμβάνουσιν τὰ ὀστᾶ αὐτῶν καὶ θάπτουσιν ὑπὸ τὴν ἄρουραν τὴν Ιαβις καὶ νηστεύουσιν ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας (lxx) 1Sa 31:13 et tulerunt ossa eorum, et sepelierunt in nemore Jabes, et jejunaverunt septem diebus.(vulgate) 13 ׃31 וַיִּקְחוּ֙ אֶת־עַצְמֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם וַיִּקְבְּר֥וּ תַֽחַת־הָאֶ֖שֶׁל בְּיָבֵ֑שָׁה וַיָּצֻ֖מוּ שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִֽים׃ פ Samuel1 1Sa 31:13 und nahmen ihre Gebeine und begruben sie unter den Baum zu Jabes und fasteten sieben Tage.(dhs) 1Sa 31:13 Then they took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.(nkjv) top of the page
