And seek in her open squares, If you can find a man, If there is one who does justice, who seeks truth, Then I will pardon her.(nas) Jer 5:1 περιδράμετε ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἴδετε καὶ γνῶτε καὶ ζητήσατε ἐν ταῖς πλατείαις αὐτῆς ἐὰν εὕρητε ἄνδρα εἰ ἔστιν ποιῶν κρίμα καὶ ζητῶν πίστιν καὶ ἵλεως ἔσομαι αὐτοῖς λέγει κύριος (lxx) Jer 5:1 [Circuite vias Jerusalem, et aspicite, et considerate, et quærite in plateis ejus, an inveniatis virum facientem judicium, et quærentem fidem: et propitius ero ei.(vulgate) 1 ׃5 שׁוֹטְט֞וּ בְּחוּצ֣וֹת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם וּרְאוּ־נָ֤א וּדְעוּ֙ וּבַקְשׁ֣וּ בִרְחוֹבוֹתֶ֔יהָ אִם־תִּמְצְא֣וּ אִ֔ישׁ אִם־יֵ֛שׁ עֹשֶׂ֥ה מִשְׁפָּ֖ט מְבַקֵּ֣שׁ אֱמוּנָ֑ה וְאֶסְלַ֖ח לָֽהּ׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:1 Gehet durch die Gassen zu Jerusalem und schauet und erfahret und suchet auf ihrer Straße, ob ihr jemand findet, der recht tue und nach dem Glauben frage, so will ich dir gnädig sein.(dhs) Jer 5:1 "Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem; See now and know; And seek in her open places If you can find a man, If there is anyone who executes judgment, Who seeks the truth, And I will pardon her.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:2 ============ Jer 5:2 "And although they say, 'As the Lord lives, 'Surely they swear falsely."(nas) Jer 5:2 ζῇ κύριος λέγουσιν διὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ἐπὶ ψεύδεσιν ὀμνύουσιν (lxx) Jer 5:2 Quod si etiam: Vivit Dominus, dixerint, et hoc falso jurabunt.(vulgate) 2 ׃5 וְאִ֥ם חַי־יְהֹוָ֖ה יֹאמֵ֑רוּ לָכֵ֥ן לַשֶּׁ֖קֶר יִשָּׁבֵֽעוּ׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:2 Und wenn sie schon sprechen: "Bei dem lebendigen Gott!", so schwören sie doch falsch.(dhs) Jer 5:2 Though they say, 'As the Lord lives,' Surely they swear falsely."(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:3 ============ Jer 5:3 O Lord, do not Your eyes look for truth? You have smitten them, But they did not weaken; You have consumed them, But they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; They have refused to repent.(nas) Jer 5:3 κύριε οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου εἰς πίστιν ἐμαστίγωσας αὐτούς καὶ οὐκ ἐπόνεσαν συνετέλεσας αὐτούς καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησαν δέξασθαι παιδείαν ἐστερέωσαν τὰ πρόσωπα αὐτῶν ὑπὲρ πέτραν καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησαν ἐπιστραφῆναι (lxx) Jer 5:3 Domine, oculi tui respiciunt fidem: percussisti eos, et non doluerunt; attrivisti eos, et renuerunt accipere disciplinam: induraverunt facies suas supra petram, et noluerunt reverti.(vulgate) 3 ׃5 יְהֹוָ֗ה עֵינֶיךָ֮ הֲל֣וֹא לֶאֱמוּנָה֒ הִכִּ֤יתָה אֹתָם֙ וְֽלֹא־חָ֔לוּ כִּלִּיתָ֕ם מֵאֲנ֖וּ קַ֣חַת מוּסָ֑ר חִזְּק֤וּ פְנֵיהֶם֙ מִסֶּ֔לַע מֵאֲנ֖וּ לָשֽׁוּב׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:3 HERR, deine Augen sehen nach dem Glauben. Du schlägst sie, aber sie fühlen's nicht; du machst es schier aus mit ihnen, aber sie bessern sich nicht. Sie haben ein härter Angesicht denn ein Fels und wollen sich nicht bekehren.(dhs) Jer 5:3 O Lord, are not Your eyes on the truth? You have stricken them, But they have not grieved; You have consumed them, But they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; They have refused to return.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:4 ============ Jer 5:4 Then I said, "They are only the poor, They are foolish; For they do not know the way of the Lord Or the ordinance of their God.(nas) Jer 5:4 καὶ ἐγὼ εἶπα ἴσως πτωχοί εἰσιν διότι οὐκ ἐδυνάσθησαν ὅτι οὐκ ἔγνωσαν ὁδὸν κυρίου καὶ κρίσιν θεοῦ (lxx) Jer 5:4 Ego autem dixi: Forsitan pauperes sunt et stulti, ignorantes viam Domini, judicium Dei sui.(vulgate) 4 ׃5 וַאֲנִ֣י אָמַ֔רְתִּי אַךְ־דַּלִּ֖ים הֵ֑ם נוֹאֲל֕וּ כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יָדְעוּ֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יְהוָ֔ה מִשְׁפַּ֖ט אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:4 Ich dachte aber: Wohlan, der arme Haufe ist unverständig, weiß nichts um des HERRN Weg und um ihres Gottes Recht.(dhs) Jer 5:4 Therefore I said, "Surely these are poor. They are foolish; For they do not know the way of the Lord, The judgment of their God.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:5 ============ Jer 5:5 "I will go to the great And will speak to them, For they know the way of the Lord And the ordinance of their God." But they too, with one accord, have broken the yoke And burst the bonds.(nas) Jer 5:5 πορεύσομαι πρὸς τοὺς ἁδροὺς καὶ λαλήσω αὐτοῖς ὅτι αὐτοὶ ἐπέγνωσαν ὁδὸν κυρίου καὶ κρίσιν θεοῦ καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁμοθυμαδὸν συνέτριψαν ζυγόν διέρρηξαν δεσμούς (lxx) Jer 5:5 Ibo igitur ad optimates, et loquar eis: ipsi enim cognoverunt viam Domini, judicium Dei sui: et ecce magis hi simul confregerunt jugum; ruperunt vincula.(vulgate) 5 ׃5 אֵֽלֲכָה־לִּ֤י אֶל־הַגְּדֹלִים֙ וַאֲדַבְּרָ֣ה אוֹתָ֔ם כִּ֣י הֵ֗מָּה יָדְעוּ֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יְהוָ֔ה מִשְׁפַּ֖ט אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ם אַ֣ךְ הֵ֤מָּה יַחְדָּו֙ שָׁ֣בְרוּ עֹ֔ל נִתְּק֖וּ מוֹסֵרֽוֹת׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:5 Ich will zu den Gewaltigen gehen und mit ihnen reden; die werden um des HERRN Weg und ihres Gottes Recht wissen. Aber sie allesamt hatten das Joch zerbrochen und die Seile zerrissen.(dhs) Jer 5:5 I will go to the great men and speak to them, For they have known the way of the Lord, The judgment of their God." But these have altogether broken the yoke And burst the bonds.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:6 ============ Jer 5:6 Therefore a lion from the forest will slay them, A wolf of the deserts will destroy them, A leopard is watching their cities. Everyone who goes out of them will be torn in pieces, Because their transgressions are many, Their apostasies are numerous.(nas) Jer 5:6 διὰ τοῦτο ἔπαισεν αὐτοὺς λέων ἐκ τοῦ δρυμοῦ καὶ λύκος ἕως τῶν οἰκιῶν ὠλέθρευσεν αὐτούς καὶ πάρδαλις ἐγρηγόρησεν ἐπὶ τὰς πόλεις αὐτῶν πάντες οἱ ἐκπορευόμενοι ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν θηρευθήσονται ὅτι ἐπλήθυναν ἀσεβείας αὐτῶν ἴσχυσαν ἐν ταῖς ἀποστροφαῖς αὐτῶν (lxx) Jer 5:6 Idcirco percussit eos leo de silva; lupus ad vesperam vastavit eos: pardus vigilans super civitates eorum: omnis qui egressus fuerit ex eis capietur: quia multiplicatæ sunt prævaricationes eorum; confortatæ sunt aversiones eorum.(vulgate) 6 ׃5 עַל־כֵּן֩ הִכָּ֨ם אַרְיֵ֜ה מִיַּ֗עַר זְאֵ֤ב עֲרָבוֹת֙ יְשָׁדְדֵ֔ם נָמֵ֤ר שֹׁקֵד֙ עַל־עָ֣רֵיהֶ֔ם כָּל־הַיּוֹצֵ֥א מֵהֵ֖נָּה יִטָּרֵ֑ף כִּ֤י רַבּוּ֙ פִּשְׁעֵיהֶ֔ם עָצְמ֖וּ *משבותיהם **מְשׁוּבוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:6 Darum wird sie auch der Löwe, der aus dem Walde kommt, zerreißen, und der Wolf aus der Wüste wird sie verderben, und der Parder wird um ihre Städte lauern; alle, die daselbst herausgehen, wird er fressen. Your sons have forsaken Me And sworn by those who are not gods. When I had fed them to the full, They committed adultery And trooped to the harlot's house.(nas) Jer 5:7 ποίᾳ τούτων ἵλεως γένωμαί σοι οἱ υἱοί σου ἐγκατέλιπόν με καὶ ὤμνυον ἐν τοῖς οὐκ οὖσιν θεοῖς καὶ ἐχόρτασα αὐτούς καὶ ἐμοιχῶντο καὶ ἐν οἴκοις πορνῶν κατέλυον (lxx) Jer 5:7 Super quo propitius tibi esse potero? filii tui dereliquerunt me, et jurant in his qui non sunt dii. Saturavi eos, et mœchati sunt, et in domo meretricis luxuriabantur.(vulgate) 7 ׃5 אֵ֤י לָזֹאת֙ *אסלוח־**אֶֽסְלַֽח־לָ֔ךְ בָּנַ֣יִךְ עֲזָב֔וּנִי וַיִּשָּׁבְע֖וּ בְּלֹ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים וָאַשְׂבִּ֤עַ אוֹתָם֙ וַיִּנְאָ֔פוּ וּבֵ֥ית זוֹנָ֖ה יִתְגֹּדָֽדוּ׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:7 Wie soll ich dir denn gnädig sein, weil mich meine Kinder verlassen und schwören bei dem, der nicht Gott ist? und nun ich ihnen vollauf gegeben habe, treiben sie Ehebruch und laufen ins Hurenhaus.(dhs) Jer 5:7 "How shall I pardon you for this? Your children have forsaken Me And sworn by those that are not gods. When I had fed them to the full, Then they committed adultery And assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:8 ============ Jer 5:8 "They were well-fed lusty horses, Each one neighing after his neighbor's wife.(nas) Jer 5:8 ἵπποι θηλυμανεῖς ἐγενήθησαν ἕκαστος ἐπὶ τὴν γυναῖκα τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ ἐχρεμέτιζον (lxx) Jer 5:8 Equi amatores et emissarii facti sunt: unusquisque ad uxorem proximi sui hinniebat.(vulgate) 8 ׃5 סוּסִ֥ים מְיֻזָּנִ֖ים מַשְׁכִּ֣ים הָי֑וּ אִ֛ישׁ אֶל־אֵ֥שֶׁת רֵעֵ֖הוּ יִצְהָֽלוּ׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:8 Ein jeglicher wiehert nach seines Nächsten Weib wie die vollen, müßigen Hengste.(dhs) Jer 5:8 They were like well-fed lusty stallions; Every one neighed after his neighbor's wife.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:9 ============ Jer 5:9 "Shall I not punish these people," declares the Lord, "And on a nation such as this Shall I not avenge Myself?(nas) Jer 5:9 μὴ ἐπὶ τούτοις οὐκ ἐπισκέψομαι λέγει κύριος ἢ ἐν ἔθνει τοιούτῳ οὐκ ἐκδικήσει ἡ ψυχή μου (lxx) Jer 5:9 Numquid super his non visitabo, dicit Dominus, et in gente tali non ulciscetur anima mea?(vulgate) 9 ׃5 הַֽעַל־אֵ֥לֶּה לוֹא־אֶפְקֹ֖ד נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֑ה וְאִם֙ בְּג֣וֹי אֲשֶׁר־כָּזֶ֔ה לֹ֥א תִתְנַקֵּ֖ם נַפְשִֽׁי׃ ס Jeremiah Jer 5:9 Und ich sollte sie um solches nicht heimsuchen? spricht der HERR, und meine Seele sollte sich nicht rächen an solchem Volk, wie dies ist?(dhs) Jer 5:9 Shall I not punish them for these things?" says the Lord. "And shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:10 ============ Jer 5:10 "Go up through her vine rows and destroy, But do not execute a complete destruction; Strip away her branches, For they are not the Lord's.(nas) Jer 5:10 ἀνάβητε ἐπὶ τοὺς προμαχῶνας αὐτῆς καὶ κατασκάψατε συντέλειαν δὲ μὴ ποιήσητε ὑπολίπεσθε τὰ ὑποστηρίγματα αὐτῆς ὅτι τοῦ κυρίου εἰσίν (lxx) Jer 5:10 Ascendite muros ejus, et dissipate: consummationem autem nolite facere: auferte propagines ejus, quia non sunt Domini.(vulgate) 10 ׃5 עֲל֤וּ בְשָׁרוֹתֶ֙יהָ֙ וְשַׁחֵ֔תוּ וְכָלָ֖ה אַֽל־תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ הָסִ֙ירוּ֙ נְטִ֣ישׁוֹתֶ֔יהָ כִּ֛י ל֥וֹא לַיהוָ֖ה הֵֽמָּה׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:10 Stürmet ihre Mauern und werfet sie um, und macht's nicht gar aus! Führet ihre Reben weg, denn sie sind nicht des HERRN;(dhs) Jer 5:10 "Go up on her walls and destroy, But do not make a complete end. Take away her branches, For they are not the Lord's.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:11 ============ Jer 5:11 "For the house of Israel and the house of Judah Have dealt very treacherously with Me," declares the Lord.(nas) Jer 5:11 ὅτι ἀθετῶν ἠθέτησεν εἰς ἐμέ λέγει κύριος οἶκος Ισραηλ καὶ οἶκος Ιουδα (lxx) Jer 5:11 Prævaricatione enim prævaricata est in me domus Israël, et domus Juda, ait Dominus.(vulgate) 11 ׃5 כִּי֩ בָג֨וֹד בָּגְד֜וּ בִּ֗י בֵּ֧ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל וּבֵ֥ית יְהוּדָ֖ה נְאֻם־יְהוָֽה׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:11 sondern sie verachten mich, beide, das Haus Israel und das Haus Juda, spricht der HERR.(dhs) Jer 5:11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah Have dealt very treacherously with Me," says the Lord.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:12 ============ Jer 5:12 They have lied about the Lord And said, "Not He; Misfortune will not come on us, And we will not see sword or famine.(nas) Jer 5:12 ἐψεύσαντο τῷ κυρίῳ ἑαυτῶν καὶ εἶπαν οὐκ ἔστιν ταῦτα οὐχ ἥξει ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς κακά καὶ μάχαιραν καὶ λιμὸν οὐκ ὀψόμεθα (lxx) Jer 5:12 Negaverunt Dominum, et dixerunt: Non est ipse: neque veniet super nos malum: gladium et famem non videbimus.(vulgate) 12 ׃5 כִּֽחֲשׁוּ֙ בַּיהוָ֔ה וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ לֹא־ה֑וּא וְלֹא־תָב֤וֹא עָלֵ֙ינוּ֙ רָעָ֔ה וְחֶ֥רֶב וְרָעָ֖ב ל֥וֹא נִרְאֶֽה׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:12 Sie verleugnen den HERRN und sprechen: "Das ist er nicht, und so übel wird es uns nicht gehen; Schwert und Hunger werden wir nicht sehen.(dhs) Jer 5:12 They have lied about the Lord, And said, "It is not He. Neither will evil come upon us, Nor shall we see sword or famine.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:13 ============ Jer 5:13 "The prophets are as wind, And the word is not in them. Thus it will be done to them!"(nas) Jer 5:13 οἱ προφῆται ἡμῶν ἦσαν εἰς ἄνεμον καὶ λόγος κυρίου οὐχ ὑπῆρχεν ἐν αὐτοῖς οὕτως ἔσται αὐτοῖς (lxx) Jer 5:13 Prophetæ fuerunt in ventum locuti, et responsum non fuit in eis: hæc ergo evenient illis.(vulgate) 13 ׃5 וְהַנְּבִיאִים֙ יִֽהְי֣וּ לְר֔וּחַ וְהַדִּבֵּ֖ר אֵ֣ין בָּהֶ֑ם כֹּ֥ה יֵעָשֶׂ֖ה לָהֶֽם׃ ס Jeremiah Jer 5:13 Ja, die Propheten sind Schwätzer und haben auch Gottes Wort nicht; es gehe über sie selbst also!"(dhs) Jer 5:13 And the prophets become wind, For the word is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them."(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:14 ============ Jer 5:14 Therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of hosts," Because you have spoken this word, Behold, I am making My words in your mouth fire And this people wood, and it will consume them.(nas) Jer 5:14 διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ ἀνθ᾽ ὧν ἐλαλήσατε τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ δέδωκα τοὺς λόγους μου εἰς τὸ στόμα σου πῦρ καὶ τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον ξύλα καὶ καταφάγεται αὐτούς (lxx) Jer 5:14 Hæc dicit Dominus Deus exercituum: Quia locuti estis verbum istud, ecce ego do verba mea in ore tuo in ignem, et populum istum in ligna, et vorabit eos.(vulgate) 14 ׃5 לָכֵ֗ן כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י צְבָא֔וֹת יַ֚עַן דַּבֶּרְכֶ֔ם אֶת־הַדָּבָ֖ר הַזֶּ֑ה הִנְנִ֣י נֹתֵן֩ דְּבָרַ֨י בְּפִ֜יךָ לְאֵ֗שׁ וְהָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֛ה עֵצִ֖ים וַאֲכָלָֽתַם׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:14 Darum spricht der HERR, der Gott Zebaoth: Weil ihr solche Rede treibt, siehe, so will ich meine Worte in deinem Munde zu Feuer machen, und dies Volk zu Holz, und es soll sie verzehren.(dhs) Jer 5:14 Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts: "Because you speak this word, Behold, I will make My words in your mouth fire, And this people wood, And it shall devour them.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 5:15 ============ Jer 5:15 "Behold, I am bringing a nation against you from afar, O house of Israel," declares the Lord." It is an enduring nation, It is an ancient nation, A nation whose language you do not know, Nor can you understand what they say.(nas) Jer 5:15 ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐπάγω ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς ἔθνος πόρρωθεν οἶκος Ισραηλ λέγει κύριος ἔθνος οὗ οὐκ ἀκούσῃ τῆς φωνῆς τῆς γλώσσης αὐτοῦ (lxx) Jer 5:15 Ecce ego adducam super vos gentem de longinquo, domus Israël, ait Dominus: gentem robustam, gentem antiquam, gentem cujus ignorabis linguam, nec intelliges quid loquatur.(vulgate) 15 ׃5 הִנְנִ֣י מֵבִיא֩ עֲלֵיכֶ֨ם גּ֧וֹי מִמֶּרְחָ֛ק בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֑ה גּ֣וֹי ׀ אֵיתָ֣ן ה֗וּא גּ֤וֹי מֵעוֹלָם֙ ה֔וּא גּ֚וֹי לֹא־תֵדַ֣ע לְשֹׁנ֔וֹ וְלֹ֥א תִשְׁמַ֖ע מַה־יְדַבֵּֽר׃ Jeremiah Jer 5:15 Siehe, ich will über euch vom Hause Israel, spricht der HERR, ein Volk von ferne bringen, ein mächtiges Volk, dessen Sprache du nicht verstehst, und kannst nicht vernehmen, was sie reden.(dhs) Jer 5:15 Behold, I will bring a nation against you from afar, O house of Israel," says the Lord.
