Today's Date: ======= John 18:1 ============ Jn 18:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, He went forth with His disciples over the ravine of the Kidron, where there was a garden, in which He entered with His disciples.(nas) Jn 18:1 ταῦτα εἰπὼν ἰησοῦς ἐξῆλθεν σὺν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ πέραν τοῦ χειμάρρου τοῦ κεδρὼν ὅπου ἦν κῆπος, εἰς ὃν εἰσῆλθεν αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ. (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:1 Hæc cum dixisset Jesus, egressus est cum discipulis suis trans torrentem Cedron, ubi erat hortus, in quem introivit ipse, et discipuli ejus.(vulgate) וַיְכַל יֵשׁוּעַ לְדַבֵּר אֶת־הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וַיֵּצֵא עִם־תַּלְמִידָיו אֶל־עֵבֶר לַנַּחַל קִדְרוֹן וַיָּבֹא לַגָּן אֲשֶׁר שָׁם הוּא וְתַלְמִידָיו׃ א John Jn 18:1 Da Jesus solches geredet hatte, ging er hinaus mit seinen Jüngern über den Bach Kidron; da war ein Garten, darein ging Jesus und seine Jünger.(dhs) Jn 18:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, He went out with His disciples over the Brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which He and His disciples entered.(nkjv) ======= John 18:2 ============ Jn 18:2 Now Judas also, who was betraying Him, knew the place, for Jesus had often met there with His disciples.(nas) Jn 18:2 ᾔδει δὲ καὶ ἰούδας ὁ παραδιδοὺς αὐτὸν τὸν τόπον, ὅτι πολλάκις συνήχθη ἰησοῦς ἐκεῖ μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ. (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:2 Sciebat autem et Judas, qui tradebat eum, locum: quia frequenter Jesus convenerat illuc cum discipulis suis.(vulgate) וִיהוּדָה הַמַּסְגִּיר יָדַע אֶת־הַמָּקוֹם הַהוּא כִּי יֵשׁוּעַ וְתַלְמִידָיו פְּעָמִים רַבּוֹת נוֹעֲדוּ שָׁם׃ ב John Jn 18:2 Judas aber, der ihn verriet, wußte den Ort auch; denn Jesus versammelte sich oft daselbst mit seinen Jüngern.(dhs) Jn 18:2 And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with His disciples.(nkjv) ======= John 18:3 ============ Jn 18:3 Judas then, having received the Roman cohort and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons.(nas) Jn 18:3 ὁ οὗν ἰούδας λαβὼν τὴν σπεῖραν καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἀρχιερέων καὶ ἐκ τῶν φαρισαίων ὑπηρέτας ἔρχεται ἐκεῖ μετὰ φανῶν καὶ λαμπάδων καὶ ὅπλων. (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:3 Judas ergo cum accepisset cohortem, et a pontificibus et pharisæis ministros, venit illuc cum laternis, et facibus, et armis.(vulgate) וַיִּקַּח יְהוּדָה אֶת־הַגְּדוּד וְאֶת־הַמְשָׁרְתִים אֲשֶׁר לְרָאשֵׁי הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַפְּרוּשִׁים וַיָּבֹא שָׁם בְּנֵרוֹת וְלַפִּידִים וּכְלֵי־נָשֶׁק׃ ג John Jn 18:3 Da nun Judas zu sich hatte genommen die Schar und der Hohenpriester und Pharisäer Diener, kommt er dahin mit Fackeln, Lampen und mit Waffen.(dhs) Jn 18:3 Then Judas, having received a detachment of troops, and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.(nkjv) ======= John 18:4 ============ Jn 18:4 So Jesus, knowing all the things that were coming upon Him, went forth and said to them, "Whom do you seek?"(nas) Jn 18:4 ἰησοῦς οὗν εἰδὼς πάντα τὰ ἐρχόμενα ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν ἐξῆλθεν καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς, τίνα ζητεῖτε; (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:4 Jesus itaque sciens omnia quæ ventura erant super eum, processit, et dixit eis: Quem quæritis?(vulgate) וְיֵשׁוּעַ יָדַע אֵת כָּל־אֲשֶׁר יְבֹאֶנּוּ וַיֵּצֵא וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם אֶת־מִי תְבַקֵּשׁוּן׃ ד John Jn 18:4 Wie nun Jesus wußte alles, was ihm begegnen sollte, ging er hinaus und sprach zu ihnen: Wen suchet ihr?(dhs) Jn 18:4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to them, "Whom are you seeking?"(nkjv) ======= John 18:5 ============ Jn 18:5 They answered Him, "Jesus the Nazarene." He said to them, "I am He." Stabat autem et Judas, qui tradebat eum, cum ipsis.(vulgate) וַיַעֲנוּ אֹתוֹ אֶת־יֵשׁוּעַ הַנָּצְרִי וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם יֵשׁוּעַ אֲנִי הוּא וִיהוּדָה הַמַּסְגִּיר עֹמֵד אֶצְלָם׃ ה John Jn 18:5 Sie antworteten ihm: Jesum von Nazareth. Jesus spricht zu ihnen: Ich bin's! Judas aber, der ihn verriet, stand auch bei ihnen.(dhs) Jn 18:5 They answered Him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said to them, "I am He." Sie sprachen: Jesum von Nazareth.(dhs) Jn 18:7 Then He asked them again, "Whom are you seeking?" And they said, "Jesus of Nazareth."(nkjv) ======= John 18:8 ============ Jn 18:8 Jesus answered, "I told you that I am He; so if you seek Me, let these go their way,"(nas) Jn 18:8 ἀπεκρίθη ἰησοῦς, εἶπον ὑμῖν ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι· εἰ οὗν ἐμὲ ζητεῖτε, ἄφετε τούτους ὑπάγειν· (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:8 Respondit Jesus: Dixi vobis, quia ego sum: si ergo me quæritis, sinite hos abire.(vulgate) וַיַעַן יֵשׁוּעַ הֲלֹא אָמַרְתִּי לָכֶם כִּי אֲנִי הוּא עַל־כֵּן אִם־אֹתִי תְבַקְשׁוּ הַנִּיחוּ לָאֵלֶּה וְיֵלֵכוּ׃ ח John Jn 18:8 Jesus antwortete: Ich habe euch gesagt, daß ich es sei. Suchet ihr denn mich, so lasset diese gehen!(dhs) Jn 18:8 Jesus answered, "I have told you that I am He. Therefore, if you seek Me, let these go their way,"(nkjv) ======= John 18:9 ============ Jn 18:9 to fulfill the word which He spoke, "Of those whom You have given Me I lost not one."(nas) Jn 18:9 ἵνα πληρωθῇ ὁ λόγος ὃν εἶπεν ὅτι οὓς δέδωκάς μοι οὐκ ἀπώλεσα ἐξ αὐτῶν οὐδένα. (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:9 Ut impleretur sermo, quem dixit: Quia quos dedisti mihi, non perdidi ex eis quemquam.(vulgate) לְהָקִים הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר אָמָר מֵאֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר נָתַתָּה לִּי לֹא־אָבַד לִי אַף־אֶחָד׃ ט John Jn 18:9 (Auf daß das Wort erfüllet würde, welches er sagte: Ich habe der keinen verloren, die du mir gegeben hast.)(dhs) Jn 18:9 that the saying might be fulfilled which He spoke, "Of those whom You gave Me I have lost none."(nkjv) ======= John 18:10 ============ Jn 18:10 Simon Peter then, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slave's name was Malchus.(nas) Jn 18:10 σίμων οὗν πέτρος ἔχων μάχαιραν εἵλκυσεν αὐτὴν καὶ ἔπαισεν τὸν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως δοῦλον καὶ ἀπέκοψεν αὐτοῦ τὸ ὠτάριον τὸ δεξιόν. ἦν δὲ ὄνομα τῶ δούλῳ μάλχος. (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:10 Simon ergo Petrus habens gladium eduxit eum: et percussit pontificis servum, et abscidit auriculam ejus dexteram. Erat autem nomen servo Malchus.(vulgate) וְחֶרֶב הָיְתָה בִּידֵי שִׁמְעוֹן פֶּטְרוֹס וַיִּשְׁלֹף אֹתָהּ וַיַּךְ אֶת־עֶבֶד הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל וַיְקַצֵּץ אֶת־אָזְנוֹ הַיְמָנִית וְשֵׁם הָעֶבֶד מַלְכוֹס׃ י John Jn 18:10 Da hatte Simon Petrus ein Schwert und zog es aus und schlug nach des Hohenpriesters Knecht und hieb ihm sein rechtes Ohr ab. Und der Knecht hieß Malchus.(dhs) Jn 18:10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.(nkjv) ======= John 18:11 ============ Jn 18:11 So Jesus said to Peter, "Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given Me, shall I not drink it?"(nas) Jn 18:11 εἶπεν οὗν ὁ ἰησοῦς τῶ πέτρῳ, βάλε τὴν μάχαιραν εἰς τὴν θήκην· τὸ ποτήριον ὃ δέδωκέν μοι ὁ πατὴρ οὐ μὴ πίω αὐτό; (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:11 Dixit ergo Jesus Petro: Mitte gladium tuum in vaginam. Calicem, quem dedit mihi Pater, non bibam illum?(vulgate) וַיֹּאמֶר יֵשׁוּעַ אֶל־פֶּטְרוֹס חָשֵׁב חַרְבְּךָ אֶל־נְדָנָהּ הַאִם אֶת־כּוֹס אֲשֶׁר נָתַן־לִי אָבִי אֲנִי לֹא־אֶשְׁתֶּנָּה׃ יא John Jn 18:11 Da sprach Jesus zu Petrus: Stecke dein Schwert in die Scheide! Soll ich den Kelch nicht trinken, den mir mein Vater gegeben hat?(dhs) Jn 18:11 So Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?"(nkjv) ======= John 18:12 ============ Jn 18:12 So the Roman cohort and the commander and the officers of the Jews, arrested Jesus and bound Him,(nas) Jn 18:12 ἡ οὗν σπεῖρα καὶ ὁ χιλίαρχος καὶ οἱ ὑπηρέται τῶν ἰουδαίων συνέλαβον τὸν ἰησοῦν καὶ ἔδησαν αὐτὸν (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:12 Cohors ergo, et tribunus, et ministri Judæorum comprehenderunt Jesum, et ligaverunt eum.~(vulgate) וְהַגְּדוּד וְשַׂר הָאֶלֶף וּמְשָׁרְתֵי הַיְּהוּדִים תָּפְשׂוּ אָז אֶת־יֵשׁוּעַ וַיַּאַסְרֻהוּ׃ יב John Jn 18:12 Die Schar aber und der Oberhauptmann und die Diener der Juden nahmen Jesum und banden ihn(dhs) Jn 18:12 Then the detachment of troops and the captain and the officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound Him.(nkjv) ======= John 18:13 ============ Jn 18:13 and led Him to Annas first; for he was father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.(nas) Jn 18:13 καὶ ἤγαγον πρὸς ἅνναν πρῶτον· ἦν γὰρ πενθερὸς τοῦ καϊάφα, ὃς ἦν ἀρχιερεὺς τοῦ ἐνιαυτοῦ ἐκείνου· (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:13 Et adduxerunt eum ad Annam primum: erat enim socer Caiphæ, qui erat pontifex anni illius.(vulgate) וַיֹּלִיכֻהוּ בָרִאשׁוֹנָה אֶל־חָנָן כִּי הוּא הָיָה חֹתֵן קַיָּפָא הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל בַּשָּׁנָה הַהִיא׃ יג John Jn 18:13 und führten ihn zuerst zu Hannas; der war des Kaiphas Schwiegervater, welcher des Jahres Hoherpriester war.(dhs) Jn 18:13 And they led Him away to Annas first, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was high priest that year.(nkjv) ======= John 18:14 ============ Jn 18:14 Now Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that it was expedient for one man to die on behalf of the people.(nas) Jn 18:14 ἦν δὲ καϊάφας ὁ συμβουλεύσας τοῖς ἰουδαίοις ὅτι συμφέρει ἕνα ἄνθρωπον ἀποθανεῖν ὑπὲρ τοῦ λαοῦ. (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:14 Erat autem Caiphas, qui consilium dederat Judæis: Quia expedit unum hominem mori pro populo.~(vulgate) הוּא קַיָּפָא אֲשֶׁר בַּעֲצָתוֹ לַיְּהוּדִים הִגִּיד כִּי טוֹב אֲשֶׁר יֹאבַד אִישׁ־אֶחָד בְּעַד כָּל־הָעָם׃ יד John Jn 18:14 Es war aber Kaiphas, der den Juden riet, es wäre gut, daß EIN Mensch würde umgebracht für das Volk.(dhs) Jn 18:14 Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.(nkjv) ======= John 18:15 ============ Jn 18:15 Simon Peter was following Jesus, and so was another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered with Jesus into the court of the high priest,(nas) Jn 18:15 ἠκολούθει δὲ τῶ ἰησοῦ σίμων πέτρος καὶ ἄλλος μαθητής. ὁ δὲ μαθητὴς ἐκεῖνος ἦν γνωστὸς τῶ ἀρχιερεῖ, καὶ συνεισῆλθεν τῶ ἰησοῦ εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως, (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:15 Sequebatur autem Jesum Simon Petrus, et alius discipulus. Discipulus autem ille erat notus pontifici, et introivit cum Jesu in atrium pontificis.(vulgate) וְשִׁמְעוֹן פֶּטְרוֹס וְתַלְמִיד אַחֵר הָלְכוּ אַחֲרֵי יֵשׁוּעַ וְהַתַּלְמִיד הַהוּא נוֹדָע הָיָה לַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל וַיָּבֹא עִם־יֵשׁוּעַ לַחֲצַר הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל׃ טו John Jn 18:15 Simon Petrus aber folgte Jesu nach und ein anderer Jünger. Dieser Jünger war den Hohenpriestern bekannt und ging mit Jesu hinein in des Hohenpriesters Palast.(dhs) Jn 18:15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest.(nkjv) ======= John 18:16 ============ Jn 18:16 but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the doorkeeper, and brought Peter in.(nas) Jn 18:16 ὁ δὲ πέτρος εἱστήκει πρὸς τῇ θύρᾳ ἔξω. ἐξῆλθεν οὗν ὁ μαθητὴς ὁ ἄλλος ὁ γνωστὸς τοῦ ἀρχιερέως καὶ εἶπεν τῇ θυρωρῶ καὶ εἰσήγαγεν τὸν πέτρον. (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:16 Petrus autem stabat ad ostium foris. Exivit ergo discipulus alius, qui erat notus pontifici, et dixit ostiariæ: et introduxit Petrum.(vulgate) וּפֶטְרוֹס עָמַד מִחוּץ לַשָּׁעַר וַיֵּצֵא הַתַּלְמִיד הָאַחֵר הַנּוֹדָע לַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל וַיְדַבֵּר אֶל־הַשֹּׁעֶרֶת וַיָּבֵא אֶת־פֶּטָרוֹס הַבָּיְתָה׃ טז John Jn 18:16 Petrus aber stand draußen vor der Tür. Da ging der andere Jünger, der dem Hohenpriester bekannt war, hinaus und redete mit der Türhüterin und führte Petrus hinein.(dhs) Jn 18:16 But Peter stood at the door outside. Then the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought Peter in.(nkjv) ======= John 18:17 ============ Jn 18:17 Then the slave-girl who kept the door said to Peter, "You are not also one of this man's disciples, are you?" He said, "I am not."(nas) Jn 18:17 λέγει οὗν τῶ πέτρῳ ἡ παιδίσκη ἡ θυρωρός, μὴ καὶ σὺ ἐκ τῶν μαθητῶν εἶ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τούτου; λέγει ἐκεῖνος, οὐκ εἰμί. (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:17 Dicit ergo Petro ancilla ostiaria: Numquid et tu ex discipulis es hominis istius? Dicit ille: Non sum.(vulgate) וַתֹּאמֶר הָאָמָה הַשֹּׁעֶרֶת אֶל־פֶּטְרוֹס הֲלֹא גַם־אַתָּה מִתַּלְמִידֵי הָאִישׁ הַזֶּה וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא אָנִי׃ יז John Jn 18:17 Da sprach die Magd, die Türhüterin, zu Petrus: Bist du nicht auch dieses Menschen Jünger einer? Er sprach: Ich bin's nicht.(dhs) Jn 18:17 Then the servant girl who kept the door said to Peter, "You are not also one of this Man's disciples, are you?" He said, "I am not."(nkjv) ======= John 18:18 ============ Jn 18:18 Now the slaves and the officers were standing there, having made a charcoal fire, for it was cold and they were warming themselves; and Peter was also with them, standing and warming himself.(nas) Jn 18:18 εἱστήκεισαν δὲ οἱ δοῦλοι καὶ οἱ ὑπηρέται ἀνθρακιὰν πεποιηκότες, ὅτι ψῦχος ἦν, καὶ ἐθερμαίνοντο· ἦν δὲ καὶ ὁ πέτρος μετ᾽ αὐτῶν ἑστὼς καὶ θερμαινόμενος. (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:18 Stabant autem servi et ministri ad prunas, quia frigus erat, et calefaciebant se: erat autem cum eis et Petrus stans, et calefaciens se.~(vulgate) וְשָׁם עָמְדוּ הָעֲבָדִים וְהַמְשָׁרְתִים וַיְבַעֲרוּ גֶחָלִים לְהִתְחַמֵּם מִפְּנֵי הַקֹּר וַיַּעֲמֹד גַּם־פֶּטְרוֹס עִמָּהֶם וַיִּתְחַמָּם׃ יח John Jn 18:18 Es standen aber die Knechte und Diener und hatten ein Kohlenfeuer gemacht, denn es war kalt, und wärmten sich. Petrus aber stand bei ihnen und wärmte sich.(dhs) Jn 18:18 Now the servants and officers who had made a fire of coals stood there, for it was cold, and they warmed themselves. And Peter stood with them and warmed himself.(nkjv) ======= John 18:19 ============ Jn 18:19 The high priest then questioned Jesus about His disciples, and about His teaching.(nas) Jn 18:19 ὁ οὗν ἀρχιερεὺς ἠρώτησεν τὸν ἰησοῦν περὶ τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ περὶ τῆς διδαχῆς αὐτοῦ. (Nestle-Aland) Jn 18:19 Pontifex ergo interrogavit Jesum de discipulis suis, et de doctrina ejus.(vulgate) וַיִּשְׁאַל הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל אֶת־יֵשׁוּעַ עַל־תַּלְמִידָיו וְעַל־תּוֹרָתוֹ׃ יט John Jn 18:19 Aber der Hohepriester fragte Jesum um seine Jünger und um seine Lehre.(dhs) Jn 18:19 The high priest then asked Jesus about His disciples and His doctrine.(nkjv) ======= John 18:20 ============ Jn 18:20 Jesus answered him, "I have spoken openly to the world; I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and I spoke nothing in secret.(nas) Jn 18:20 ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῶ ἰησοῦς, ἐγὼ παρρησίᾳ λελάληκα τῶ κόσμῳ· ἐγὼ πάντοτε ἐδίδαξα ἐν συναγωγῇ καὶ ἐν τῶ ἱερῶ, ὅπου πάντες οἱ ἰουδαῖοι συνέρχονται, καὶ ἐν κρυπτῶ ἐλάλησα οὐδέν. Erat autem Barabbas latro.(vulgate) וַיּוֹסִיפוּ וַיִּצְעֲקוּ לֵאמֹר לֹא אֶת־זֶה כִּי אִם אֶת־בַּר־אַבָּא וּבַר־אַבָּא הָיָה שׁוֹדֵד׃ מ John Jn 18:40 Da schrieen sie wieder allesamt und sprachen: Nicht diesen, sondern Barabbas!
