Today's Date: ======= Nehemiah 4:1 ============ Neh 4:1 Now it came about that when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became furious and very angry and mocked the Jews.(nas) Neh 4:1 καὶ ἐγένετο ἡνίκα ἤκουσεν Σαναβαλλατ ὅτι ἡμεῖς οἰκοδομοῦμεν τὸ τεῖχος καὶ πονηρὸν ἦν αὐτῷ καὶ ὠργίσθη ἐπὶ πολὺ καὶ ἐξεγέλα ἐπὶ τοῖς Ιουδαίοις (lxx) Neh 4:1 Factum est autem, cum audisset Sanaballat quod ædificaremus murum, iratus est valde: et motus nimis subsannavit Judæos,(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:1 Bvt when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, then was he wroth and sore grieued, and mocked the Iewes,(Geneva) Neh 4:1 Da aber Saneballat hörte, daß wir die Mauer bauten, ward er zornig und sehr entrüstet und spottete der Juden(dhs) Neh 4:1 But it so happened, when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, that he was furious and very indignant, and mocked the Jews.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:2 ============ Neh 4:2 He spoke in the presence of his brothers and the wealthy men of Samaria and said, "What are these feeble Jews doing? Are they going to restore it for themselves? Can they offer sacrifices? Can they finish in a day? Can they revive the stones from the dusty rubble even the burned ones?"(nas) Neh 4:2 καὶ εἶπεν ἐνώπιον τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ αὕτη ἡ δύναμις Σομορων ὅτι οἱ Ιουδαῖοι οὗτοι οἰκοδομοῦσιν τὴν ἑαυτῶν πόλιν (lxx) Neh 4:2 et dixit coram fratribus suis, et frequentia Samaritanorum: Quid Judæi faciunt imbecilles? num dimittent eos gentes? num sacrificabunt, et complebunt in una die? numquid ædificare poterunt lapides de acervis pulveris, qui combusti sunt?(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:2 And sayde before his brethren and the armie of Samaria, thus he sayde, What doe these weake Iewes? wil they fortifie them selues? wil they sacrifice? will they finish it in a day? will they make the stones whole againe out of the heapes of dust, seeing they are burnt?(Geneva) Neh 4:2 und sprach vor seinen Brüdern und den Mächtigen zu Samaria: Was machen die ohnmächtigen Juden? Wird man sie so lassen? Werden sie opfern? Werden sie es diesen Tag vollenden? Werden sie die Steine lebendig machen, die Schutthaufen und verbrannt sind?(dhs) Neh 4:2 And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, "What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they complete it in a day? Will they revive the stones from the heaps of rubbish--stones that are burned?"(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:3 ============ Neh 4:3 Now Tobiah the Ammonite was near him and he said, "Even what they are building--if a fox should jump on it, he would break their stone wall down!"(nas) Neh 4:3 καὶ Τωβιας ὁ αμμανίτης ἐχόμενα αὐτοῦ ἦλθεν καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς ἑαυτούς μὴ θυσιάσουσιν ἢ φάγονται ἐπὶ τοῦ τόπου αὐτῶν οὐχὶ ἀναβήσεται ἀλώπηξ καὶ καθελεῖ τὸ τεῖχος λίθων αὐτῶν (lxx) Neh 4:3 Sed et Tobias Ammanites, proximus ejus, ait: Ædificent: si ascenderit vulpes, transiliet murum eorum lapideum.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:3 And Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and said, Although they buylde, yet if a foxe goe vp, he shall euen breake downe their stonie wall.(Geneva) Neh 4:3 Aber Tobia, der Ammoniter, neben ihm sprach: Laß sie nur bauen; wenn Füchse hinaufzögen, die zerrissen wohl ihre steinerne Mauer.(dhs) Neh 4:3 Now Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, "Whatever they build, if even a fox goes up on it, he will break down their stone wall."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:4 ============ Neh 4:4 Hear, O our God, how we are despised! Return their reproach on their own heads and give them up for plunder in a land of captivity.(nas) Neh 4:4 ἄκουσον ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν ὅτι ἐγενήθημεν εἰς μυκτηρισμόν καὶ ἐπίστρεψον ὀνειδισμὸν αὐτῶν εἰς κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν καὶ δὸς αὐτοὺς εἰς μυκτηρισμὸν ἐν γῇ αἰχμαλωσίας (lxx) Neh 4:4 Audi, Deus noster, quia facti sumus despectui: converte opprobrium super caput eorum, et da eos in despectionem in terra captivitatis.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:4 Heare, O our God (for we are despised) and turne their shame vpon their owne head, and giue them vnto a pray in the lande of their captiuitie,(Geneva) Neh 4:4 Höre, unser Gott, wie verachtet sind wir! Kehre ihren Hohn auf ihren Kopf, daß du sie gibst in Verachtung im Lande ihrer Gefangenschaft.(dhs) Neh 4:4 Hear, O our God, for we are despised; turn their reproach on their own heads, and give them as plunder to a land of captivity!(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:5 ============ Neh 4:5 Do not forgive their iniquity and let not their sin be blotted out before You, for they have demoralized the builders.(nas) Neh 4:5 καὶ μὴ καλύψῃς ἐπὶ ἀνομίαν (lxx) Neh 4:5 Ne operias iniquitatem eorum, et peccatum eorum coram facie tua non deleatur, quia irriserunt ædificantes.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:5 And couer not their iniquitie, neither let their sinne be put out in thy presence: for they haue prouoked vs before the builders.(Geneva) Neh 4:5 Decke ihre Missetat nicht zu, und ihre Sünde vertilge nicht vor dir; denn sie haben vor den Bauleuten dich erzürnt.(dhs) Neh 4:5 Do not cover their iniquity, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before You; for they have provoked You to anger before the builders.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:6 ============ Neh 4:6 So we built the wall and the whole wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.(nas) Neh 4:6 καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤκουσεν Σαναβαλλατ καὶ Τωβια καὶ οἱ Ἄραβες καὶ οἱ Αμμανῖται ὅτι ἀνέβη φυὴ τοῖς τείχεσιν Ιερουσαλημ ὅτι ἤρξαντο αἱ διασφαγαὶ ἀναφράσσεσθαι καὶ πονηρὸν αὐτοῖς ἐφάνη σφόδρα (lxx) Neh 4:6 Itaque ædificavimus murum, et conjunximus totum usque ad partem dimidiam: et provocatum est cor populi ad operandum.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:6 So we built the wall, and all the wall was ioyned vnto the halfe thereof, and the heart of the people was to worke.(Geneva) Neh 4:6 Aber wir bauten die Mauer und fügten sie ganz aneinander bis an die halbe Höhe. Und das Volk gewann ein Herz zu arbeiten.(dhs) Neh 4:6 So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:7 ============ Neh 4:7 Now when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites and the Ashdodites heard that the repair of the walls of Jerusalem went on, and that the breaches began to be closed, they were very angry.(nas) Neh 4:7 καὶ συνήχθησαν πάντες ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ ἐλθεῖν παρατάξασθαι ἐν Ιερουσαλημ (lxx) Neh 4:7 Factum est autem, cum audisset Sanaballat, et Tobias, et Arabes, et Ammanitæ, et Azotii, quod obducta esset cicatrix muri Jerusalem, et quod cœpissent interrupta concludi, irati sunt nimis.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:7 But when Sanballat, & Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodims heard that the walles of Ierusalem were repayred, (for the breaches began to be stopped) then they were very wroth,(Geneva) Neh 4:7 Da aber Saneballat und Tobia und die Araber und Ammoniter und Asdoditer hörten, daß die Mauern zu Jerusalem zugemacht wurden und daß sie die Lücken hatten angefangen zu verschließen, wurden sie sehr zornig(dhs) Neh 4:7 Now it happened, when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites heard that the walls of Jerusalem were being restored and the gaps were beginning to be closed, that they became very angry,(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:8 ============ Neh 4:8 All of them conspired together to come and fight against Jerusalem and to cause a disturbance in it. (nas) Neh 4:8 καὶ προσηυξάμεθα πρὸς τὸν θεὸν ἡμῶν καὶ ἐστήσαμεν προφύλακας ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς ἡμέρας καὶ νυκτὸς ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν (lxx) Neh 4:8 Et congregati sunt omnes pariter ut venirent, et pugnarent contra Jerusalem, et molirentur insidias.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:8 And conspired all together to come & to fight against Ierusalem, and to hinder them.(Geneva) Neh 4:8 und machten allesamt einen Bund zuhaufen, daß sie kämen und stritten wider Jerusalem und richteten darin Verwirrung an.(dhs) Neh 4:8 and all of them conspired together to come and attack Jerusalem and create confusion.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:9 ============ Neh 4:9 But we prayed to our God, and because of them we set up a guard against them day and night.(nas) Neh 4:9 καὶ εἶπεν Ιουδας συνετρίβη ἡ ἰσχὺς τῶν ἐχθρῶν καὶ ὁ χοῦς πολύς καὶ ἡμεῖς οὐ δυνησόμεθα οἰκοδομεῖν ἐν τῷ τείχει (lxx) Neh 4:9 Et oravimus Deum nostrum, et posuimus custodes super murum die ac nocte contra eos.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:9 The we prayed vnto our God, & set watchmen by them, day and night, because of them.(Geneva) Neh 4:9 Wir aber beteten zu unserm Gott und stellten Hut gegen sie Tag und Nacht vor ihnen.(dhs) Neh 4:9 Nevertheless we made our prayer to our God, and because of them we set a watch against them day and night.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:10 ============ Neh 4:10 Thus in Judah it was said, "The strength of the burden bearers is failing, Yet there is much rubbish; And we ourselves are unable To rebuild the wall."(nas) Neh 4:10 καὶ εἶπαν οἱ θλίβοντες ἡμᾶς οὐ γνώσονται καὶ οὐκ ὄψονται ἕως ὅτου ἔλθωμεν εἰς μέσον αὐτῶν καὶ φονεύσωμεν αὐτοὺς καὶ καταπαύσωμεν τὸ ἔργον (lxx) Neh 4:10 Dixit autem Judas: Debilitata est fortitudo portantis, et humus nimia est, et nos non poterimus ædificare murum.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:10 And Iudah said, The strength of the bearers is weakened, and there is much earth, so that we are not able to build the wall.(Geneva) Neh 4:10 Und Juda sprach: Die Kraft der Träger ist zu schwach, und des Schuttes ist zu viel; wir können nicht an der Mauer bauen.(dhs) Neh 4:10 Then Judah said, "The strength of the laborers is failing, and there is so much rubbish that we are not able to build the wall."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:11 ============ Neh 4:11 Our enemies said, "They will not know or see until we come among them, kill them and put a stop to the work."(nas) Neh 4:11 καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤλθοσαν οἱ Ιουδαῖοι οἱ οἰκοῦντες ἐχόμενα αὐτῶν καὶ εἴποσαν ἡμῖν ἀναβαίνουσιν ἐκ πάντων τῶν τόπων ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς (lxx) Neh 4:11 Et dixerunt hostes nostri: Nesciant, et ignorent donec veniamus in medium eorum, et interficiamus eos, et cessare faciamus opus.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:11 Also our aduersaries had sayde, They shall not knowe, neither see, till we come into the middes of them and slay them, and cause the worke to cease.(Geneva) Neh 4:11 Unsre Widersacher aber gedachten: Sie sollen's nicht wissen noch sehen, bis wir mitten unter sie kommen und sie erwürgen und das Werk hindern.(dhs) Neh 4:11 And our adversaries said, "They will neither know nor see anything, till we come into their midst and kill them and cause the work to cease."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:12 ============ Neh 4:12 When the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten times, "They will come up against us from every place where you may turn,"(nas) Neh 4:12 καὶ ἔστησα εἰς τὰ κατώτατα τοῦ τόπου κατόπισθεν τοῦ τείχους ἐν τοῖς σκεπεινοῖς καὶ ἔστησα τὸν λαὸν κατὰ δήμους μετὰ ῥομφαιῶν αὐτῶν λόγχας αὐτῶν καὶ τόξα αὐτῶν (lxx) Neh 4:12 Factum est autem venientibus Judæis qui habitabant juxta eos, et dicentibus nobis per decem vices, ex omnibus locis quibus venerant ad nos,(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:12 But when the Iewes (which dwelt beside them) came, they told vs ten times, From all places whece ye shal returne, they wil be vpon vs.(Geneva) Neh 4:12 Da aber die Juden, die neben ihnen wohnten, kamen, und sagten's uns wohl zehnmal, aus allen Orten, da sie um uns wohnten,(dhs) Neh 4:12 So it was, when the Jews who dwelt near them came, that they told us ten times, "From whatever place you turn, they will be upon us."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:13 ============ Neh 4:13 then I stationed men in the lowest parts of the space behind the wall, the exposed places, and I stationed the people in families with their swords, spears and bows.(nas) Neh 4:13 καὶ εἶδον καὶ ἀνέστην καὶ εἶπα πρὸς τοὺς ἐντίμους καὶ πρὸς τοὺς στρατηγοὺς καὶ πρὸς τοὺς καταλοίπους τοῦ λαοῦ μὴ φοβηθῆτε ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν μνήσθητε τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν τοῦ μεγάλου καὶ φοβεροῦ καὶ παρατάξασθε περὶ τῶν ἀδελφῶν ὑμῶν υἱῶν ὑμῶν καὶ θυγατέρων ὑμῶν γυναικῶν ὑμῶν καὶ οἴκων ὑμῶν (lxx) Neh 4:13 statui in loco post murum per circuitum populum in ordinem cum gladiis suis, et lanceis, et arcubus.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:13 Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall vpon the toppes of the stones, & placed the people by their families, with their swordes, their speares and their bowes.(Geneva) Neh 4:13 da stellte ich unten an die Orte hinter der Mauer in die Gräben das Volk nach ihren Geschlechtern mit ihren Schwertern, Spießen und Bogen.(dhs) Neh 4:13 Therefore I positioned men behind the lower parts of the wall, at the openings; and I set the people according to their families, with their swords, their spears, and their bows.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:14 ============ Neh 4:14 When I saw their fear, I rose and spoke to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people: "Do not be afraid of them; remember the Lord who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives and your houses."(nas) Neh 4:14 καὶ ἐγένετο ἡνίκα ἤκουσαν οἱ ἐχθροὶ ἡμῶν ὅτι ἐγνώσθη ἡμῖν καὶ διεσκέδασεν ὁ θεὸς τὴν βουλὴν αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπεστρέψαμεν πάντες ἡμεῖς εἰς τὸ τεῖχος ἀνὴρ εἰς τὸ ἔργον αὐτοῦ (lxx) Neh 4:14 Et perspexi atque surrexi: et aio ad optimates et magistratus, et ad reliquam partem vulgi: Nolite timere a facie eorum: Domini magni et terribilis mementote, et pugnate pro fratribus vestris, filiis vestris, et filiabus vestris, et uxoribus vestris, et domibus vestris.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:14 Then I behelde, and rose vp, and said vnto the Princes, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not afrayde of them: remember the great Lorde, and fearefull, and fight for your brethren, your sonnes, and your daughters, your wiues, and your houses.(Geneva) Neh 4:14 Und ich besah es und machte mich auf und sprach zu den Ratsherren und Obersten und dem andern Volk: Fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen; gedenkt an den großen, schrecklichen HERRN und streitet für eure Brüder, Söhne, Töchter, Weiber und Häuser!(dhs) Neh 4:14 And I looked, and arose and said to the nobles, to the leaders, and to the rest of the people, "Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, great and awesome, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:15 ============ Neh 4:15 When our enemies heard that it was known to us, and that God had frustrated their plan, then all of us returned to the wall, each one to his work.(nas) Neh 4:15 καὶ ἐγένετο ἀπὸ τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης ἥμισυ τῶν ἐκτετιναγμένων ἐποίουν τὸ ἔργον καὶ ἥμισυ αὐτῶν ἀντείχοντο καὶ λόγχαι καὶ θυρεοὶ καὶ τὰ τόξα καὶ οἱ θώρακες καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες ὀπίσω παντὸς οἴκου Ιουδα (lxx) Neh 4:15 Factum est autem, cum audissent inimici nostri nuntiatum esse nobis, dissipavit Deus consilium eorum. Et reversi sumus omnes ad muros, unusquisque ad opus suum.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:15 And when our enemies heard that it was knowen vnto vs, then God brought their counsell to nought, and we turned all againe to the wall, euery one vnto his worke.(Geneva) Neh 4:15 Da aber unsre Feinde hörten, daß es uns kund war geworden und Gott ihren Rat zunichte gemacht hatte, kehrten wir alle wieder zur Mauer, ein jeglicher zu seiner Arbeit.(dhs) Neh 4:15 And it happened, when our enemies heard that it was known to us, and that God had brought their plot to nothing, that all of us returned to the wall, everyone to his work.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:16 ============ Neh 4:16 From that day on, half of my servants carried on the work while half of them held the spears, the shields, the bows and the breastplates; and the captains were behind the whole house of Judah.(nas) Neh 4:16 τῶν οἰκοδομούντων ἐν τῷ τείχει καὶ οἱ αἴροντες ἐν τοῖς ἀρτῆρσιν ἐν ὅπλοις ἐν μιᾷ χειρὶ ἐποίει αὐτὸ τὸ ἔργον καὶ μία ἐκράτει τὴν βολίδα (lxx) Neh 4:16 Et factum est a die illa, media pars juvenum eorum faciebat opus, et media parata erat ad bellum: et lanceæ, et scuta, et arcus, et loricæ, et principes post eos in omni domo Juda.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:16 And from that day, halfe of the yong men did the labour, and the other halfe part of them helde the speares, and shieldes, and bowes, and habergins: and the rulers stoode behinde all the house of Iudah.(Geneva) Neh 4:16 Und es geschah von hier an, daß der Jünglinge die Hälfte taten die Arbeit, die andere Hälfte hielten die Spieße, Schilde, Bogen und Panzer. Und die Obersten standen hinter dem ganzen Hause Juda,(dhs) Neh 4:16 So it was, from that time on, that half of my servants worked at construction, while the other half held the spears, the shields, the bows, and wore armor; and the leaders were behind all the house of Judah.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:17 ============ Neh 4:17 Those who were rebuilding the wall and those who carried burdens took their load with one hand doing the work and the other holding a weapon.(nas) Neh 4:17 καὶ οἱ οἰκοδόμοι ἀνὴρ ῥομφαίαν αὐτοῦ ἐζωσμένος ἐπὶ τὴν ὀσφὺν αὐτοῦ καὶ ᾠκοδομοῦσαν καὶ ὁ σαλπίζων ἐν τῇ κερατίνῃ ἐχόμενα αὐτοῦ (lxx) Neh 4:17 Ædificantium in muro, et portantium onera, et imponentium: una manu sua faciebat opus, et altera tenebat gladium:(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:17 They that buylded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, and they that laded, did the worke with one hand, and with the other helde the sworde.(Geneva) Neh 4:17 die da bauten an der Mauer. Und die da Last trugen von denen, die ihnen aufluden, mit einer Hand taten sie die Arbeit, und mit der andern hielten sie die Waffe.(dhs) Neh 4:17 Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:18 ============ Neh 4:18 As for the builders, each wore his sword girded at his side as he built, while the trumpeter stood near me.(nas) Neh 4:18 καὶ εἶπα πρὸς τοὺς ἐντίμους καὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἄρχοντας καὶ πρὸς τοὺς καταλοίπους τοῦ λαοῦ τὸ ἔργον πλατὺ καὶ πολύ καὶ ἡμεῖς σκορπιζόμεθα ἐπὶ τοῦ τείχους μακρὰν ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ (lxx) Neh 4:18 ædificentium enim unusquisque gladio erat accinctus renes. Et ædificabant, et clangebant buccina juxta me.(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:18 For euery one of the buylders had his sworde girded on his loynes, and so buylded: and he that blewe the trumpet, was beside me.(Geneva) Neh 4:18 Und ein jeglicher, der da baute, hatte sein Schwert an seine Lenden gegürtet und baute also; und der mit der Posaune blies, war neben mir.(dhs) Neh 4:18 Every one of the builders had his sword girded at his side as he built. And the one who sounded the trumpet was beside me.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:19 ============ Neh 4:19 I said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, "The work is great and extensive, and we are separated on the wall far from one another.(nas) Neh 4:19 ἐν τόπῳ οὗ ἐὰν ἀκούσητε τὴν φωνὴν τῆς κερατίνης ἐκεῖ συναχθήσεσθε πρὸς ἡμᾶς καὶ ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν πολεμήσει περὶ ἡμῶν (lxx) Neh 4:19 Et dixi ad optimates, et ad magistratus, et ad reliquam partem vulgi: Opus grande est et latum, et nos separati sumus in muro procul alter ab altero:(vulgate) Nehemiah 4:19 Then saide I vnto the Princes, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The worke is great and large, and we are separated vpon the wall, one farre from another.(Geneva) Neh 4:19 Und ich sprach zu den Ratsherren und Obersten und zum andern Volk: Das Werk ist groß und weit, und wir sind zerstreut auf der Mauer, ferne voneinander.(dhs) Neh 4:19 Then I said to the nobles, the rulers, and the rest of the people, "The work is great and extensive, and we are separated far from one another on the wall.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 4:20 ============ Neh 4:20 At whatever place you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there.
