Today's Date: ======= Nehemiah 8:1 ============ Neh 8:1 And all the people gathered as one man at the square which was in front of the Water Gate, and they asked Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses which the Lord had given to Israel.(nas) Neh 8:1 καὶ συνήχθησαν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ὡς ἀνὴρ εἷς εἰς τὸ πλάτος τὸ ἔμπροσθεν πύλης τοῦ ὕδατος καὶ εἶπαν τῷ Εσδρα τῷ γραμματεῖ ἐνέγκαι τὸ βιβλίον νόμου Μωυσῆ ὃν ἐνετείλατο κύριος τῷ Ισραηλ (lxx) Neh 8:1 Et venerat mensis septimus: filii autem Israël erant in civitatibus suis. Congregatusque est omnis populus quasi vir unus ad plateam quæ est ante portam aquarum: et dixerunt Esdræ scribæ ut afferret librum legis Moysi, quam præceperat Dominus Israëli.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:1 And all the people assembled themselues together, in the streete that was before the watergate, and they spake vnto Ezra the Scribe, that hee would bring the booke of ye Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel.(Geneva) Neh 8:1 Da nun herzukam der siebente Monat und die Kinder Israel in ihren Städten waren, versammelte sich das ganze Volk wie ein Mann auf die breite Gasse vor dem Wassertor und sprachen zu Esra, dem Schriftgelehrten, daß er das Buch des Gesetzes Mose's holte, das der HERR Israel geboten hat.(dhs) Neh 8:1 Now all the people gathered together as one man in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded Israel.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:2 ============ Neh 8:2 Then Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly of men, women and all who could listen with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month.(nas) Neh 8:2 καὶ ἤνεγκεν Εσδρας ὁ ἱερεὺς τὸν νόμον ἐνώπιον τῆς ἐκκλησίας ἀπὸ ἀνδρὸς καὶ ἕως γυναικὸς καὶ πᾶς ὁ συνίων ἀκούειν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ μιᾷ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ ἑβδόμου (lxx) Neh 8:2 Attulit ergo Esdras sacerdos legem coram multitudine virorum et mulierum, cunctisque qui poterant intelligere, in die prima mensis septimi.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:2 And Ezra the Priest brought the Lawe before the Congregation both of men and women, and of all that coulde heare and vnderstand it, in the first day of the seuenth moneth,(Geneva) Neh 8:2 Und Esra, der Priester, brachte das Gesetz vor die Gemeinde, Männer und Weiber und alle, die es vernehmen konnten, am ersten Tage des siebenten Monats(dhs) Neh 8:2 So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men and women and all who could hear with understanding on the first day of the seventh month.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:3 ============ Neh 8:3 He read from it before the square which was in front of the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of men and women, those who could understand; and all the people were attentive to the book of the law.(nas) Neh 8:3 καὶ ἀνέγνω ἐν αὐτῷ ἀπὸ τῆς ὥρας τοῦ διαφωτίσαι τὸν ἥλιον ἕως ἡμίσους τῆς ἡμέρας ἀπέναντι τῶν ἀνδρῶν καὶ τῶν γυναικῶν καὶ αὐτοὶ συνιέντες καὶ ὦτα παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ εἰς τὸ βιβλίον τοῦ νόμου (lxx) Neh 8:3 Et legit in eo aperte in platea quæ erat ante portam aquarum, de mane usque ad mediam diem, in conspectu virorum et mulierum, et sapientium: et aures omnis populi erant erectæ ad librum.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:3 And he read therein in the streete that was before the watergate (from the morning vntill the midday) before men and women, and them that vnderstoode it, and the eares of all the people hearkened vnto the booke of the Lawe.(Geneva) Neh 8:3 und las daraus auf der breiten Gasse, die vor dem Wassertor ist, vom lichten Morgen an bis auf den Mittag, vor Mann und Weib und wer's vernehmen konnte. Und des ganzen Volkes Ohren waren zu dem Gesetz gekehrt.(dhs) Neh 8:3 Then he read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:4 ============ Neh 8:4 Ezra the scribe stood at a wooden podium which they had made for the purpose. And beside him stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah on his right hand; and Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah and Meshullam on his left hand.(nas) Neh 8:4 καὶ ἔστη Εσδρας ὁ γραμματεὺς ἐπὶ βήματος ξυλίνου καὶ ἔστησαν ἐχόμενα αὐτοῦ Ματταθιας καὶ Σαμαιας καὶ Ανανιας καὶ Ουρια καὶ Ελκια καὶ Μαασαια ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξ ἀριστερῶν Φαδαιας καὶ Μισαηλ καὶ Μελχιας καὶ Ωσαμ καὶ Ασαβδανα καὶ Ζαχαριας καὶ Μοσολλαμ (lxx) Neh 8:4 Stetit autem Esdras scriba super gradum ligneum, quem fecerat ad loquendum: et steterunt juxta eum Mathathias, et Semeia, et Ania, et Uria, et Helcia, et Maasia, ad dexteram ejus: et ad sinistram, Phadaia, Misaël, et Melchia, et Hasum, et Hasbadana, Zacharia, et Mosollam.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:4 And Ezra the Scribe stoode vpon a pulpit of wood which he had made for the preaching, and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, & Ananiah, and Vriiah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah on his right hande, and on his left hand Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, & Hashum, & Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.(Geneva) Neh 8:4 Und Esra, der Schriftgelehrte, stand auf einem hölzernen, hohen Stuhl, den sie gemacht hatten, zu predigen, und standen neben ihm Matthithja, Sema, Anaja, Uria, Hilkia und Maaseja, zu seiner Rechten, aber zu seiner Linken Pedaja, Misael, Malchia, Hasum, Hasbaddana, Sacharja und Mesullam.(dhs) Neh 8:4 So Ezra the scribe stood on a platform of wood which they had made for the purpose; and beside him, at his right hand, stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Urijah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah; and at his left hand Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:5 ============ Neh 8:5 Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up.(nas) Neh 8:5 καὶ ἤνοιξεν Εσδρας τὸ βιβλίον ἐνώπιον παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ ὅτι αὐτὸς ἦν ἐπάνω τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ ἐγένετο ἡνίκα ἤνοιξεν αὐτό ἔστη πᾶς ὁ λαός (lxx) Neh 8:5 Et aperuit Esdras librum coram omni populo: super universum quippe populum eminebat: et cum aperuisset eum, stetit omnis populus.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:5 And Ezra opened the booke before all the people: for hee was aboue all the people: and when he opened it, all the people stoode vp.(Geneva) Neh 8:5 Und Esra tat das Buch auf vor dem ganzen Volk, denn er ragte über alles Volk; und da er's auftat, stand alles Volk.(dhs) Neh 8:5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:6 ============ Neh 8:6 Then Ezra blessed the Lord the great God. And all the people answered, "Amen, Amen!" while lifting up their hands; then they bowed low and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.(nas) Neh 8:6 καὶ ηὐλόγησεν Εσδρας κύριον τὸν θεὸν τὸν μέγαν καὶ ἀπεκρίθη πᾶς ὁ λαὸς καὶ εἶπαν αμην ἐπάραντες χεῖρας αὐτῶν καὶ ἔκυψαν καὶ προσεκύνησαν τῷ κυρίῳ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν (lxx) Neh 8:6 Et benedixit Esdras Domino Deo magno: et respondit omnis populus: Amen, amen, elevans manus suas: et incurvati sunt, et adoraverunt Deum proni in terram.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:6 And Ezra praysed the Lorde the great God, and all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting vp their handes: & they bowed themselues, and worshipped the Lord with their faces toward the grounde.(Geneva) Neh 8:6 Und Esra lobte den HERRN, den großen Gott. Und alles Volk antwortete: Amen, Amen! mit ihren Händen empor und neigten sich und beteten den HERRN an mit dem Antlitz zur Erde.(dhs) Neh 8:6 And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. Then all the people answered, "Amen, Amen!" while lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:7 ============ Neh 8:7 Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, the Levites, explained the law to the people while the people remained in their place.(nas) Neh 8:7 καὶ Ἰησοῦς καὶ Βαναιας καὶ Σαραβια ἦσαν συνετίζοντες τὸν λαὸν εἰς τὸν νόμον καὶ ὁ λαὸς ἐν τῇ στάσει αὐτοῦ (lxx) Neh 8:7 Porro Josue, et Bani, et Serebia, Jamin, Accub, Septhai, Odia, Maasia, Celita, Azarias, Jozabed, Hanan, Phalaia, Levitæ, silentium faciebant in populo ad audiendam legem: populus autem stabat in gradu suo.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:7 Also Ieshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Iamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Iozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Leuites caused the people to vnderstand the lawe, and the people stood in their place.(Geneva) Neh 8:7 Und Jesua, Bani, Serebja, Jamin, Akkub, Sabthai, Hodia, Maaseja, Kelita, Asarja, Josabad, Hanan, Pelaja und die Leviten machten, daß das Volk aufs Gesetz merkte; und das Volk stand auf seiner Stätte.(dhs) Neh 8:7 Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, helped the people to understand the Law; and the people stood in their place.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:8 ============ Neh 8:8 They read from the book, from the law of God, translating to give the sense so that they understood the reading. (nas) Neh 8:8 καὶ ἀνέγνωσαν ἐν βιβλίῳ νόμου τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἐδίδασκεν Εσδρας καὶ διέστελλεν ἐν ἐπιστήμῃ κυρίου καὶ συνῆκεν ὁ λαὸς ἐν τῇ ἀναγνώσει (lxx) Neh 8:8 Et legerunt in libro legis Dei distincte, et aperte ad intelligendum: et intellexerunt cum legeretur.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:8 And they read in the booke of the Lawe of God distinctly, and gaue the sense, & caused them to vnderstand the reading.(Geneva) Neh 8:8 Und sie lasen im Gesetzbuch Gottes klar und verständlich, daß man verstand, was gelesen ward.(dhs) Neh 8:8 So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:9 ============ Neh 8:9 Then Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, "This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn or weep." For all the people were weeping when they heard the words of the law.(nas) Neh 8:9 καὶ εἶπεν Νεεμιας καὶ Εσδρας ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ γραμματεὺς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται οἱ συνετίζοντες τὸν λαὸν καὶ εἶπαν παντὶ τῷ λαῷ ἡ ἡμέρα ἁγία ἐστὶν τῷ κυρίῳ θεῷ ἡμῶν μὴ πενθεῖτε μηδὲ κλαίετε ὅτι ἔκλαιεν πᾶς ὁ λαός ὡς ἤκουσαν τοὺς λόγους τοῦ νόμου (lxx) Neh 8:9 Dixit autem Nehemias (ipse est Athersatha) et Esdras sacerdos et scriba, et Levitæ interpretantes universo populo: Dies sanctificatus est Domino Deo nostro: nolite lugere, et nolite flere. Flebat enim omnis populus cum audiret verba legis.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:9 Then Nehemiah (which is Tirshatha) and Ezra the Priest and scribe, and the Leuites that instructed the people, saide vnto all the people, This day is holie vnto ye Lord your God: mourne not, neither weepe: for all the people wept, whe they heard the words of the Lawe.(Geneva) Neh 8:9 Und Neh mia, der da ist der Landpfleger, und Esra, der Priester, der Schriftgelehrte, und die Leviten, die alles Volk aufmerken machten sprachen zum Volk: Dieser Tag ist heilig dem HERRN, eurem Gott; darum seid nicht traurig und weint nicht! Denn alles Volk weinte, da sie die Worte des Gesetzes hörten.(dhs) Neh 8:9 And Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, "This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn nor weep." Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength."(nas) Neh 8:10 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς πορεύεσθε φάγετε λιπάσματα καὶ πίετε γλυκάσματα καὶ ἀποστείλατε μερίδας τοῖς μὴ ἔχουσιν ὅτι ἁγία ἐστὶν ἡ ἡμέρα τῷ κυρίῳ ἡμῶν καὶ μὴ διαπέσητε ὅτι ἐστὶν ἰσχὺς ὑμῶν (lxx) Neh 8:10 Et dixit eis: Ite, comedite pinguia, et bibite mulsum, et mittite partes his qui non præparaverunt sibi, quia sanctus dies Domini est: et nolite contristari: gaudium etenim Domini est fortitudo nostra.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:10 He saide also vnto the, Go, and eate of the fat, & drinke the sweete, & send part vnto them, for whome none is prepared: for this day is holie vnto our Lorde: be ye not sorie therefore: for the ioy of the Lord is your strength.(Geneva) Neh 8:10 Darum sprach er zu ihnen: Geht hin und eßt das Fette und trinkt das Süße und sendet denen auch Teile, die nichts für sich bereitet haben; denn dieser Tag ist heilig unserm HERRN. Und bekümmert euch nicht; denn die Freude am HERRN ist eure Stärke.(dhs) Neh 8:10 Then he said to them, "Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:11 ============ Neh 8:11 So the Levites calmed all the people, saying, "Be still, for the day is holy; do not be grieved."(nas) Neh 8:11 καὶ οἱ Λευῖται κατεσιώπων πάντα τὸν λαὸν λέγοντες σιωπᾶτε ὅτι ἡ ἡμέρα ἁγία καὶ μὴ καταπίπτετε (lxx) Neh 8:11 Levitæ autem silentium faciebant in omni populo, dicentes: Tacete, quia dies sanctus est, et nolite dolere.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:11 And the Leuites made silence throughout all the people, saying, Holde your peace: for the day is holy, be not sad therefore.(Geneva) Neh 8:11 Und die Leviten stillten alles Volk und sprachen: Seid still, denn der Tag ist heilig; bekümmert euch nicht!(dhs) Neh 8:11 So the Levites quieted all the people, saying, "Be still, for the day is holy; do not be grieved."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:12 ============ Neh 8:12 All the people went away to eat, to drink, to send portions and to celebrate a great festival, because they understood the words which had been made known to them. (nas) Neh 8:12 καὶ ἀπῆλθεν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς φαγεῖν καὶ πιεῖν καὶ ἀποστέλλειν μερίδας καὶ ποιῆσαι εὐφροσύνην μεγάλην ὅτι συνῆκαν ἐν τοῖς λόγοις οἷς ἐγνώρισεν αὐτοῖς (lxx) Neh 8:12 Abiit itaque omnis populus ut comederet, et biberet, et mitteret partes, et faceret lætitiam magnam: quia intellexerant verba quæ docuerat eos.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:12 Then all the people went to eate and to drinke, and to send away part, and to make great ioy, because they had vnderstand the wordes that they had taught them.(Geneva) Neh 8:12 Und alles Volk ging hin, daß es äße, tränke und Teile sendete und eine große Freude machte; denn sie hatten die Worte verstanden, die man hatte kundgetan.(dhs) Neh 8:12 And all the people went their way to eat and drink, to send portions and rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that were declared to them.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:13 ============ Neh 8:13 Then on the second day the heads of fathers' households of all the people, the priests and the Levites were gathered to Ezra the scribe that they might gain insight into the words of the law.(nas) Neh 8:13 καὶ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ δευτέρᾳ συνήχθησαν οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν πατριῶν τῷ παντὶ λαῷ οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται πρὸς Εσδραν τὸν γραμματέα ἐπιστῆσαι πρὸς πάντας τοὺς λόγους τοῦ νόμου (lxx) Neh 8:13 Et in die secundo congregati sunt principes familiarum universi populi, sacerdotes et Levitæ, ad Esdram scribam, ut interpretaretur eis verba legis.(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:13 And on the second day the chiefe fathers of all the people, the Priests and the Leuites were gathered vnto Ezra the scribe, that he also might instruct them in the wordes of the Lawe.(Geneva) Neh 8:13 Und des andern Tages versammelten sich die Obersten der Vaterhäuser unter dem ganzen Volk und die Priester und Leviten zu Esra, dem Schriftgelehrten, daß er sie in den Worten des Gesetzes unterrichtete.(dhs) Neh 8:13 Now on the second day the heads of the fathers' houses of all the people, with the priests and Levites, were gathered to Ezra the scribe, in order to understand the words of the Law.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:14 ============ Neh 8:14 They found written in the law how the Lord had commanded through Moses that the sons of Israel should live in booths during the feast of the seventh month.(nas) Neh 8:14 καὶ εὕροσαν γεγραμμένον ἐν τῷ νόμῳ ᾧ ἐνετείλατο κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ ὅπως κατοικήσωσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἐν σκηναῖς ἐν ἑορτῇ ἐν μηνὶ τῷ ἑβδόμῳ (lxx) Neh 8:14 Et invenerunt scriptum in lege præcepisse Dominum in manu Moysi ut habitent filii Israël in tabernaculis in die solemni, mense septimo:(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:14 And they found written in the Law, (that the Lorde had commanded by Moses) that the children of Israel should dwel in boothes in the feast of the seuenth moneth,(Geneva) Neh 8:14 Und sie fanden geschrieben im Gesetz, das der HERR durch Mose geboten hatte, daß die Kinder Israel in Laubhütten wohnen sollten am Fest im siebenten Monat(dhs) Neh 8:14 And they found written in the Law, which the Lord had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month,(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:15 ============ Neh 8:15 So they proclaimed and circulated a proclamation in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying, "Go out to the hills, and bring olive branches and wild olive branches, myrtle branches, palm branches and branches of other leafy trees, to make booths, as it is written."(nas) Neh 8:15 καὶ ὅπως σημάνωσιν σάλπιγξιν ἐν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν αὐτῶν καὶ ἐν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ εἶπεν Εσδρας ἐξέλθετε εἰς τὸ ὄρος καὶ ἐνέγκετε φύλλα ἐλαίας καὶ φύλλα ξύλων κυπαρισσίνων καὶ φύλλα μυρσίνης καὶ φύλλα φοινίκων καὶ φύλλα ξύλου δασέος ποιῆσαι σκηνὰς κατὰ τὸ γεγραμμένον (lxx) Neh 8:15 et ut prædicent, et divulgent vocem in universis urbibus suis, et in Jerusalem, dicentes: Egredimini in montem, et afferte frondes olivæ, et frondes ligni pulcherrimi, frondes myrti, et ramos palmarum, et frondes ligni nemorosi, ut fiant tabernacula, sicut scriptum est.~(vulgate) Nehemiah 8:15 And that they shoulde cause it to bee declared and proclaimed in all their cities, and in Ierusalem, saying, Go forth vnto the mount, and bring oliue branches, and pine branches, & branches of myrtus, and palme branches, & branches of thicke trees, to make boothes, as it is written.(Geneva) Neh 8:15 und sollten's lassen laut werden und ausrufen in allen ihren Städten und zu Jerusalem und sagen: Geht hinaus auf die Berge und holt Ölzweige, Myrtenzweige, Palmenzweige und Zweige von dichten Bäumen, daß man Laubhütten mache, wie es geschrieben steht.(dhs) Neh 8:15 and that they should announce and proclaim in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying, "Go out to the mountain, and bring olive branches, branches of oil trees, myrtle branches, palm branches, and branches of leafy trees, to make booths, as it is written."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 8:16 ============ Neh 8:16 So the people went out and brought them and made booths for themselves, each on his roof, and in their courts and in the courts of the house of God, and in the square at the Water Gate and in the square at the Gate of Ephraim.(nas) Neh 8:16 καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ λαὸς καὶ ἤνεγκαν καὶ ἐποίησαν ἑαυτοῖς σκηνὰς ἀνὴρ ἐπὶ τοῦ δώματος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν ταῖς αὐλαῖς αὐτῶν καὶ ἐν ταῖς αὐλαῖς οἴκου τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἐν πλατείαις τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἕως πύλης Εφραιμ (lxx) Neh 8:16 Et egressus est populus, et attulerunt. The sons of Israel had indeed not done so from the days of Joshua the son of Nun to that day. And they celebrated the feast seven days, and on the eighth day there was a solemn assembly according to the ordinance. (nas) Neh 8:18 καὶ ἀνέγνω ἐν βιβλίῳ νόμου τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμέραν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ἀπὸ τῆς ἡμέρας τῆς πρώτης ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας τῆς ἐσχάτης καὶ ἐποίησαν ἑορτὴν ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας καὶ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ὀγδόῃ ἐξόδιον κατὰ τὸ κρίμα (lxx) Neh 8:18 Legit autem in libro legis Dei per dies singulos, a die primo usque ad diem novissimum.
