Today's Date: 4/7/2025 ======= Nehemiah 5:1 ============ Neh 5:1 Now there was a great outcry of the people and of their wives against their Jewish brothers.(nas) Neh 5:1 καὶ ἦν κραυγὴ τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ γυναικῶν αὐτῶν μεγάλη πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτῶν τοὺς Ιουδαίους (lxx) Neh 5:1 Et factus est clamor populi et uxorum ejus magnus adversus fratres suos Judæos.(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:1 Nowe there was a great crie of the people, and of their wiues against their brethren the Iewes.(Geneva) Neh 5:1 Und es erhob sich ein großes Geschrei des Volkes und ihrer Weiber wider ihre Brüder, die Juden.(dhs) Neh 5:1 And there was a great outcry of the people and their wives against their Jewish brethren.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:2 ============ Neh 5:2 For there were those who said, "We, our sons and our daughters are many; therefore let us get grain that we may eat and live."(nas) Neh 5:2 καὶ ἦσάν τινες λέγοντες ἐν υἱοῖς ἡμῶν καὶ ἐν θυγατράσιν ἡμῶν ἡμεῖς πολλοί καὶ λημψόμεθα σῖτον καὶ φαγόμεθα καὶ ζησόμεθα (lxx) Neh 5:2 Et erant qui dicerent: Filii nostri et filiæ nostræ multæ sunt nimis: accipiamus pro pretio eorum frumentum, et comedamus, et vivamus.(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:2 For there were that said, We, our sonnes & our daughters are many, therefore we take vp corne, that we may eate and liue.(Geneva) Neh 5:2 Und waren etliche, die da sprachen: Unserer Söhne und Töchter sind viel; laßt uns Getreide nehmen und essen, daß wir leben.(dhs) Neh 5:2 For there were those who said, "We, our sons, and our daughters are many; therefore let us get grain, that we may eat and live."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:3 ============ Neh 5:3 There were others who said, "We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards and our houses that we might get grain because of the famine."(nas) Neh 5:3 καὶ εἰσίν τινες λέγοντες ἀγροὶ ἡμῶν καὶ ἀμπελῶνες ἡμῶν καὶ οἰκίαι ἡμῶν ἡμεῖς διεγγυῶμεν καὶ λημψόμεθα σῖτον καὶ φαγόμεθα (lxx) Neh 5:3 Et erant qui dicerent: Agros nostros, et vineas, et domus nostras opponamus, et accipiamus frumentum in fame.(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:3 And there were that saide, We must gage our landes, and our vineyardes, and our houses, and take vp corne for the famine.(Geneva) Neh 5:3 Aber etliche sprachen: Laßt uns unsre Äcker, Weinberge und Häuser versetzen und Getreide nehmen in der Teuerung.(dhs) Neh 5:3 There were also some who said, "We have mortgaged our lands and vineyards and houses, that we might buy grain because of the famine."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:4 ============ Neh 5:4 Also there were those who said, "We have borrowed money for the king's tax on our fields and our vineyards.(nas) Neh 5:4 καὶ εἰσίν τινες λέγοντες ἐδανεισάμεθα ἀργύριον εἰς φόρους τοῦ βασιλέως ἀγροὶ ἡμῶν καὶ ἀμπελῶνες ἡμῶν καὶ οἰκίαι ἡμῶν (lxx) Neh 5:4 Et alii dicebant: Mutuo sumamus pecunias in tributa regis, demusque agros nostros et vineas:(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:4 There were also that said, We haue borowed money for the Kings tribute vpon our landes and our vineyardes.(Geneva) Neh 5:4 Etliche aber sprachen: Wir habe Geld entlehnt zum Schoß für den König auf unsre Äcker und Weinberge;(dhs) Neh 5:4 There were also those who said, "We have borrowed money for the king's tax on our lands and vineyards.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:5 ============ Neh 5:5 Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our children like their children. Yet behold, we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters are forced into bondage already, and we are helpless because our fields and vineyards belong to others."(nas) Neh 5:5 καὶ νῦν ὡς σὰρξ ἀδελφῶν ἡμῶν σὰρξ ἡμῶν ὡς υἱοὶ αὐτῶν υἱοὶ ἡμῶν καὶ ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς καταδυναστεύομεν τοὺς υἱοὺς ἡμῶν καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας ἡμῶν εἰς δούλους καὶ εἰσὶν ἀπὸ θυγατέρων ἡμῶν καταδυναστευόμεναι καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν δύναμις χειρῶν ἡμῶν καὶ ἀγροὶ ἡμῶν καὶ ἀμπελῶνες ἡμῶν τοῖς ἐντίμοις (lxx) Neh 5:5 et nunc sicut carnes fratrum nostrorum, sic carnes nostræ sunt: et sicut filii eorum, ita et filii nostri: ecce nos subjugamus filios nostros et filias nostras in servitutem, et de filiabus nostris sunt famulæ, nec habemus unde possint redimi: et agros nostros et vineas nostras alii possident.(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:5 And nowe our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, and our sonnes as their sonnes: and lo, we bring into subiection our sonnes and our daughters, as seruants, and there be of our daughters nowe in subiection, and there is no power in our handes: for other men haue our landes and our vineyardes.(Geneva) Neh 5:5 nun ist doch wie unsrer Brüder Leib auch unser Leib und wie ihre Kinder unsre Kinder, und siehe, wir müssen unsre Söhne und Töchter unterwerfen dem Dienst, und sind schon unsrer Töchter etliche unterworfen, und ist kein Vermögen in unsern Händen, und unsre Äcker und Weinberge sind der andern geworden.(dhs) Neh 5:5 Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children; and indeed we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters have been brought into slavery. It is not in our power to redeem them, for other men have our lands and vineyards."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:6 ============ Neh 5:6 Then I was very angry when I had heard their outcry and these words.(nas) Neh 5:6 καὶ ἐλυπήθην σφόδρα καθὼς ἤκουσα τὴν κραυγὴν αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς λόγους τούτους (lxx) Neh 5:6 Et iratus sum nimis cum audissem clamorem eorum secundum verba hæc:(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:6 Then was I very angrie when I heard their crie and these wordes.(Geneva) Neh 5:6 Da ich aber ihr Schreien und solche Worte hörte, ward ich sehr zornig.(dhs) Neh 5:6 And I became very angry when I heard their outcry and these words.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:7 ============ Neh 5:7 I consulted with myself and contended with the nobles and the rulers and said to them, "You are exacting usury, each from his brother!" Therefore, I held a great assembly against them.(nas) Neh 5:7 καὶ ἐβουλεύσατο καρδία μου ἐπ᾽ ἐμέ καὶ ἐμαχεσάμην πρὸς τοὺς ἐντίμους καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας καὶ εἶπα αὐτοῖς ἀπαιτήσει ἀνὴρ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ὑμεῖς ἀπαιτεῖτε καὶ ἔδωκα ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς ἐκκλησίαν μεγάλην (lxx) Neh 5:7 cogitavitque cor meum mecum, et increpavi optimates et magistratus, et dixi eis: Usurasne singuli a fratribus vestris exigitis? Et congregavi adversum eos concionem magnam,(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:7 And I thought in my minde, and I rebuked the princes, and the rulers, and saide vnto them, You lay burthens euery one vpon his brethren: and I set a great assemblie against them,(Geneva) Neh 5:7 Und mein Herz ward Rats mit mir, daß ich schalt die Ratsherren und die Obersten und sprach zu ihnen: Wollt ihr einer auf den andern Wucher treiben? Und ich brachte die Gemeinde wider sie zusammen(dhs) Neh 5:7 After serious thought, I rebuked the nobles and rulers, and said to them, "Each of you is exacting usury from his brother." So I called a great assembly against them.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:8 ============ Neh 5:8 I said to them, "We according to our ability have redeemed our Jewish brothers who were sold to the nations; now would you even sell your brothers that they may be sold to us?" Then they were silent and could not find a word to say.(nas) Neh 5:8 καὶ εἶπα αὐτοῖς ἡμεῖς κεκτήμεθα τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ἡμῶν τοὺς Ιουδαίους τοὺς πωλουμένους τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ἐν ἑκουσίῳ ἡμῶν καὶ ὑμεῖς πωλεῖτε τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ὑμῶν καὶ ἡσύχασαν καὶ οὐχ εὕροσαν λόγον (lxx) Neh 5:8 et dixi eis: Nos, ut scitis, redemimus fratres nostros Judæos, qui venditi fuerant gentibus secundum possibilitatem nostram: et vos igitur vendetis fratres vestros, et redimemus eos? Et siluerunt, nec invenerunt quid responderent.(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:8 And I said vnto them, We (according to our abilitie) haue redeemed our brethren the Iewes, which were solde vnto the heathen: and will you sell your brethren againe, or shall they be solde vnto vs? Then helde they their peace, and could not answere.(Geneva) Neh 5:8 und sprach zu ihnen: Wir haben unsre Brüder, die Juden, erkauft die den Heiden verkauft waren, nach unserm Vermögen; und ihr wollt auch eure Brüder verkaufen und sie sollen uns verkauft werden? Da schwiegen sie und fanden nichts zu antworten.(dhs) Neh 5:8 And I said to them, "According to our ability we have redeemed our Jewish brethren who were sold to the nations. Now indeed, will you even sell your brethren? Or should they be sold to us?" Then they were silenced and found nothing to say.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:9 ============ Neh 5:9 Again I said, "The thing which you are doing is not good; should you not walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations, our enemies?(nas) Neh 5:9 καὶ εἶπα οὐκ ἀγαθὸς ὁ λόγος ὃν ὑμεῖς ποιεῖτε οὐχ οὕτως ἐν φόβῳ θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἀπελεύσεσθε ἀπὸ ὀνειδισμοῦ τῶν ἐθνῶν τῶν ἐχθρῶν ἡμῶν (lxx) Neh 5:9 Dixique ad eos: Non est bona res quam facitis: quare non in timore Dei nostri ambulastis, ne exprobretur nobis a gentibus inimicis nostris?(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:9 I said also, That which ye do, is not good. Ought ye not to walke in the feare of our God, for the reproche of the heathen our enemies?(Geneva) Neh 5:9 Und ich sprach: Es ist nicht gut, was ihr tut. Solltet ihr nicht in der Furcht Gottes wandeln um des Hohnes willen der Heiden, unsrer Feinde?(dhs) Neh 5:9 Then I said, "What you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations, our enemies?(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:10 ============ Neh 5:10 And likewise I, my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Please, let us leave off this usury.(nas) Neh 5:10 καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί μου καὶ οἱ γνωστοί μου καὶ ἐγὼ ἐθήκαμεν ἐν αὐτοῖς ἀργύριον καὶ σῖτον ἐγκαταλίπωμεν δὴ τὴν ἀπαίτησιν ταύτην (lxx) Neh 5:10 Et ego, et fratres mei, et pueri mei commodavimus plurimis pecuniam et frumentum. Non repetamus in commune istud: æs alienum concedamus quod debetur nobis.(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:10 For euen I, my brethren, and my seruants doe lende them money and corne: I pray you, let vs leaue off this burden.(Geneva) Neh 5:10 Ich und meine Brüder und meine Leute haben ihnen auch Geld geliehen und Getreide; laßt uns doch diese Schuld erlassen.(dhs) Neh 5:10 I also, with my brethren and my servants, am lending them money and grain. Please, let us stop this usury!(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:11 ============ Neh 5:11 Please, give back to them this very day their fields, their vineyards, their olive groves and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money and of the grain, the new wine and the oil that you are exacting from them."(nas) Neh 5:11 ἐπιστρέψατε δὴ αὐτοῖς ὡς σήμερον ἀγροὺς αὐτῶν ἀμπελῶνας αὐτῶν ἐλαίας αὐτῶν καὶ οἰκίας αὐτῶν καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀργυρίου τὸν σῖτον καὶ τὸν οἶνον καὶ τὸ ἔλαιον ἐξενέγκατε αὐτοῖς (lxx) Neh 5:11 Reddite eis hodie agros suos, et vineas suas, et oliveta sua, et domos suas: quin potius et centesimum pecuniæ, frumenti, vini et olei, quam exigere soletis ab eis, date pro illis.(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:11 Restore, I pray you, vnto them this day their landes, their vineyardes, their oliues, & their houses, and remit the hundreth part of the siluer and of the corne, of the wine, and of the oyle that ye exact of them.(Geneva) Neh 5:11 So gebt ihnen nun heute wieder ihre Äcker, Weinberge, Ölgärten und Häuser und den Hundertsten am Geld, am Getreide, am Most und am Öl, den ihr von ihnen zu fordern habt.(dhs) Neh 5:11 Restore now to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their olive groves, and their houses, also a hundredth of the money and the grain, the new wine and the oil, that you have charged them."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:12 ============ Neh 5:12 Then they said, "We will give it back and will require nothing from them; we will do exactly as you say." So I called the priests and took an oath from them that they would do according to this promise.(nas) Neh 5:12 καὶ εἶπαν ἀποδώσομεν καὶ παρ᾽ αὐτῶν οὐ ζητήσομεν οὕτως ποιήσομεν καθὼς σὺ λέγεις καὶ ἐκάλεσα τοὺς ἱερεῖς καὶ ὥρκισα αὐτοὺς ποιῆσαι ὡς τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο (lxx) Neh 5:12 Et dixerunt: Reddemus, et ab eis nihil quæremus: sicque faciemus ut loqueris. Et vocavi sacerdotes, et adjuravi eos ut facerent juxta quod dixeram.(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:12 Then said they, We will restore it, and will not require it of them: we will doe as thou hast said. Then I called the Priestes, and caused them to sweare, that they shoulde doe according to this promes.(Geneva) Neh 5:12 Da sprachen sie: Wir wollen's wiedergeben und wollen nichts von ihnen fordern und wollen tun wie du gesagt hast. Und ich rief die Priester und nahm einen Eid von ihnen, daß sie also tun sollten.(dhs) Neh 5:12 So they said, "We will restore it, and will require nothing from them; we will do as you say." Then I called the priests, and required an oath from them that they would do according to this promise.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:13 ============ Neh 5:13 I also shook out the front of my garment and said, "Thus may God shake out every man from his house and from his possessions who does not fulfill this promise; even thus may he be shaken out and emptied." And all the assembly said, "Amen!" And they praised the Lord. Then the people did according to this promise. (nas) Neh 5:13 καὶ τὴν ἀναβολήν μου ἐξετίναξα καὶ εἶπα οὕτως ἐκτινάξαι ὁ θεὸς πάντα ἄνδρα ὃς οὐ στήσει τὸν λόγον τοῦτον ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκ κόπου αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔσται οὕτως ἐκτετιναγμένος καὶ κενός καὶ εἶπεν πᾶσα ἡ ἐκκλησία αμην καὶ ᾔνεσαν τὸν κύριον καὶ ἐποίησεν ὁ λαὸς τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο (lxx) Neh 5:13 Insuper excussi sinum meum, et dixi: Sic excutiat Deus omnem virum qui non compleverit verbum istud, de domo sua, et de laboribus suis: sic excutiatur, et vacuus fiat. Et dixit universa multitudo: Amen: et laudaverunt Deum. Fecit ergo populus sicut erat dictum.~(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:13 So I shooke my lappe, and said, So let God shake out euery man that wil not perfourme this promise from his house, & from his labour: euen thus let him be shaken out, & emptied; all the Cogregation said, Amen, & praised the Lord: and the people did according to this promes.(Geneva) Neh 5:13 Auch schüttelte ich meinen Busen aus und sprach: Also schüttle Gott aus jedermann von seinem Hause und von seiner Arbeit, der dies Wort nicht handhabt, daß er sei ausgeschüttelt und leer. Und die ganze Gemeinde sprach: Amen! und lobte den HERRN. Und das Volk tat also.(dhs) Neh 5:13 Then I shook out the fold of my garment and said, "So may God shake out each man from his house, and from his property, who does not perform this promise. Even thus may he be shaken out and emptied." And all the assembly said, "Amen!" and praised the Lord. Then the people did according to this promise.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:14 ============ Neh 5:14 Moreover, from the day that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes, for twelve years, neither I nor my kinsmen have eaten the governor's food allowance.(nas) Neh 5:14 ἀπὸ τῆς ἡμέρας ἧς ἐνετείλατό μοι εἶναι εἰς ἄρχοντα αὐτῶν ἐν γῇ Ιουδα ἀπὸ ἔτους εἰκοστοῦ καὶ ἕως ἔτους τριακοστοῦ καὶ δευτέρου τῷ Αρθασασθα ἔτη δώδεκα ἐγὼ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί μου βίαν αὐτῶν οὐκ ἔφαγον (lxx) Neh 5:14 A die autem illa, qua præceperat rex mihi ut essem dux in terra Juda, ab anno vigesimo usque ad annum trigesimum secundum Artaxerxis regis per annos duodecim, ego et fratres mei annonas quæ ducibus debebantur non comedimus.(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:14 And from the time that the King gaue me charge to be gouernour in the lande of Iudah, from the twentieth yeere, euen vnto the two and thirtieth yeere of King Artahshashte, that is, twelue yeere, I, and my brethren haue not eaten the bread of the gouernour.(Geneva) Neh 5:14 Auch von der Zeit an, da mir befohlen ward, ihr Landpfleger zu sein im Lande Juda, nämlich vom zwanzigsten Jahr an bis in das zweiunddreißigste Jahr des Königs Arthahsastha, das sind zwölf Jahre, nährte ich mich und meine Brüder nicht von der Landpfleger Kost.(dhs) Neh 5:14 Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the governor's provisions.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:15 ============ Neh 5:15 But the former governors who were before me laid burdens on the people and took from them bread and wine besides forty shekels of silver; even their servants domineered the people. But I did not do so because of the fear of God.(nas) Neh 5:15 καὶ τὰς βίας τὰς πρώτας ἃς πρὸ ἐμοῦ ἐβάρυναν ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐλάβοσαν παρ᾽ αὐτῶν ἐν ἄρτοις καὶ ἐν οἴνῳ ἔσχατον ἀργύριον δίδραχμα τεσσαράκοντα καὶ οἱ ἐκτετιναγμένοι αὐτῶν ἐξουσιάζονται ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν καὶ ἐγὼ οὐκ ἐποίησα οὕτως ἀπὸ προσώπου φόβου θεοῦ (lxx) Neh 5:15 Duces autem primi, qui fuerant ante me, gravaverunt populum, et acceperunt ab eis in pane, et vino, et pecunia, quotidie siclos quadraginta: sed et ministri eorum depresserunt populum. Ego autem non feci ita propter timorem Dei:(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:15 For the former gouernours that were before me, had bene chargeable vnto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, besides fourtie shekels of siluer: yea, and their seruants bare rule ouer the people: but so did not I, because of the feare of God.(Geneva) Neh 5:15 Denn die vorigen Landpfleger, die vor mir gewesen waren, hatten das Volk beschwert und hatten von ihnen genommen Brot und Wein, dazu auch vierzig Silberlinge; auch waren die Leute mit Gewalt gefahren über das Volk. Ich tat aber nicht also um der Furcht Gottes willen.(dhs) Neh 5:15 But the former governors who were before me laid burdens on the people, and took from them bread and wine, besides forty shekels of silver. Yes, even their servants bore rule over the people, but I did not do so, because of the fear of God.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:16 ============ Neh 5:16 I also applied myself to the work on this wall; we did not buy any land, and all my servants were gathered there for the work.(nas) Neh 5:16 καὶ ἐν ἔργῳ τοῦ τείχους τούτων οὐκ ἐκράτησα ἀγρὸν οὐκ ἐκτησάμην καὶ πάντες οἱ συνηγμένοι ἐκεῖ ἐπὶ τὸ ἔργον (lxx) Neh 5:16 quin potius in opere muri ædificavi, et agrum non emi, et omnes pueri mei congregati ad opus erant.(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:16 But rather I fortified a portio in the worke of this wall, and we bought no lande, and all my seruants came thither together vnto the worke.(Geneva) Neh 5:16 Auch arbeitete ich an der Mauer Arbeit und kaufte keinen Acker; und alle meine Leute mußten daselbst an die Arbeit zuhauf kommen.(dhs) Neh 5:16 Indeed, I also continued the work on this wall, and we did not buy any land. All my servants were gathered there for the work.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:17 ============ Neh 5:17 Moreover, there were at my table one hundred and fifty Jews and officials, besides those who came to us from the nations that were around us.(nas) Neh 5:17 καὶ οἱ Ιουδαῖοι ἑκατὸν καὶ πεντήκοντα ἄνδρες καὶ οἱ ἐρχόμενοι πρὸς ἡμᾶς ἀπὸ τῶν ἐθνῶν τῶν κύκλῳ ἡμῶν ἐπὶ τράπεζάν μου (lxx) Neh 5:17 Judæi quoque et magistratus centum quinquaginta viri, et qui veniebant ad nos de gentibus quæ in circuitu nostro sunt, in mensa mea erant.(vulgate) Nehemiah 5:17 Moreouer there were at my table an hundreth & fiftie of the Iewes, & rulers, which came vnto vs from among the heathen that are about vs.(Geneva) Neh 5:17 Dazu waren die Juden und Obersten hundertundfünfzig an meinem Tisch und die zu uns kamen aus den Heiden, die um uns her sind.(dhs) Neh 5:17 And at my table were one hundred and fifty Jews and rulers, besides those who came to us from the nations around us.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 5:18 ============ Neh 5:18 Now that which was prepared for each day was one ox and six choice sheep, also birds were prepared for me; and once in ten days all sorts of wine were furnished in abundance.
