Today's Date: ======= Jonah 1:1 ============ Jon 1:1 The word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai saying, (nas) Jon 1:1 καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρὸς Ιωναν τὸν τοῦ Αμαθι λέγων (lxx) Jon 1:1 Et factum est verbum Domini ad Jonam, filium Amathi, dicens:(vulgate) Jonah 1:1 The worde of the Lorde came also vnto Ionah the sonne of Amittai, saying,(Geneva) Jon 1:1 Es geschah das Wort des HERRN zu Jona, dem Sohn Amitthais, und sprach:(dhs) Jon 1:1 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:2 ============ Jon 1:2 "Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me."(nas) Jon 1:2 ἀνάστηθι καὶ πορεύθητι εἰς Νινευη τὴν πόλιν τὴν μεγάλην καὶ κήρυξον ἐν αὐτῇ ὅτι ἀνέβη ἡ κραυγὴ τῆς κακίας αὐτῆς πρός με (lxx) Jon 1:2 Surge, et vade in Niniven, civitatem grandem, et prædica in ea, quia ascendit malitia ejus coram me.(vulgate) Jonah 1:2 Arise, and goe to Nineueh, that great citie, and crye against it: for their wickednesse is come vp before mee.(Geneva) Jon 1:2 Mache dich auf und gehe in die große Stadt Ninive und predige wider sie! denn ihre Bosheit ist heraufgekommen vor mich.(dhs) Jon 1:2 "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me."(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:3 ============ Jon 1:3 But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. So he went down to Joppa, found a ship which was going to Tarshish, paid the fare and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. (nas) Jon 1:3 καὶ ἀνέστη Ιωνας τοῦ φυγεῖν εἰς Θαρσις ἐκ προσώπου κυρίου καὶ κατέβη εἰς Ιοππην καὶ εὗρεν πλοῖον βαδίζον εἰς Θαρσις καὶ ἔδωκεν τὸ ναῦλον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐνέβη εἰς αὐτὸ τοῦ πλεῦσαι μετ᾽ αὐτῶν εἰς Θαρσις ἐκ προσώπου κυρίου (lxx) Jon 1:3 Et surrexit Jonas, ut fugeret in Tharsis a facie Domini, et descendit in Joppen: et invenit navem euntem in Tharsis, et dedit naulum ejus, et descendit in eam ut iret cum eis in Tharsis a facie Domini.(vulgate) Jonah 1:3 But Ionah rose vp to flee into Tarshish fro the presence of the Lord, and went downe to Iapho: and he founde a ship going to Tarshish: so he payed the fare thereof, and went downe into it, that he might go with them vnto Tarshish, from the presence of the Lord.(Geneva) Jon 1:3 Aber Jona machte sich auf und floh vor dem HERRN und wollte gen Tharsis und kam hinab gen Japho. Und da er ein Schiff fand, das gen Tharsis wollte fahren, gab er Fährgeld und trat hinein, daß er mit ihnen gen Tharsis führe vor dem HERRN.(dhs) Jon 1:3 But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:4 ============ Jon 1:4 The Lord hurled a great wind on the sea and there was a great storm on the sea so that the ship was about to break up. (nas) Jon 1:4 καὶ κύριος ἐξήγειρεν πνεῦμα εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ ἐγένετο κλύδων μέγας ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ καὶ τὸ πλοῖον ἐκινδύνευεν συντριβῆναι (lxx) Jon 1:4 Dominus autem misit ventum magnum in mare: et facta est tempestas magna in mari, et navis periclitabatur conteri.(vulgate) Jonah 1:4 But the Lorde sent out a great winde into the sea, and there was a mightie tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.(Geneva) Jon 1:4 Da ließ der HERR einen großen Wind aufs Meer kommen, und es erhob sich ein großes Ungewitter auf dem Meer, daß man meinte, das Schiff würde zerbrechen.(dhs) Jon 1:4 But the Lord sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:5 ============ Jon 1:5 Then the sailors became afraid and every man cried to his god, and they threw the cargo which was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone below into the hold of the ship, lain down and fallen sound asleep. (nas) Jon 1:5 καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν οἱ ναυτικοὶ καὶ ἀνεβόων ἕκαστος πρὸς τὸν θεὸν αὐτῶν καὶ ἐκβολὴν ἐποιήσαντο τῶν σκευῶν τῶν ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν τοῦ κουφισθῆναι ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν Ιωνας δὲ κατέβη εἰς τὴν κοίλην τοῦ πλοίου καὶ ἐκάθευδεν καὶ ἔρρεγχεν (lxx) Jon 1:5 Et timuerunt nautæ, et clamaverunt viri ad deum suum, et miserunt vasa quæ erant in navi, in mare, ut alleviaretur ab eis; et Jonas descendit ad interiora navis, et dormiebat sopore gravi.(vulgate) Jonah 1:5 Then the mariners were afraide, and cryed euery man vnto his God, and cast the wares that were in the ship, into the sea to lighten it of the: but Ionah was gone downe into the sides of the ship, and he lay downe, and was fast a sleepe.(Geneva) Jon 1:5 Und die Schiffsleute fürchteten sich und schrieen, ein jeglicher zu seinem Gott, und warfen das Gerät, das im Schiff war, ins Meer, daß es leichter würde. Aber Jona war hinunter in das Schiff gestiegen, lag und schlief.(dhs) Jon 1:5 Then the mariners were afraid; and every man cried out to his god, and threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea, to lighten the load. But Jonah had gone down into the lowest parts of the ship, had lain down, and was fast asleep.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:6 ============ Jon 1:6 So the captain approached him and said, "How is it that you are sleeping? Get up, call on your god. Perhaps your god will be concerned about us so that we will not perish."(nas) Jon 1:6 καὶ προσῆλθεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ πρωρεὺς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ τί σὺ ῥέγχεις ἀνάστα καὶ ἐπικαλοῦ τὸν θεόν σου ὅπως διασώσῃ ὁ θεὸς ἡμᾶς καὶ μὴ ἀπολώμεθα (lxx) Jon 1:6 Et accessit ad eum gubernator, et dixit ei: Quid tu sopore deprimeris? surge, invoca Deum tuum, si forte recogitet Deus de nobis, et non pereamus.(vulgate) Jonah 1:6 So the shipmaster came to him, and saide vnto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? Arise, call vpon thy God, if so be that God wil thinke vpon vs, that we perish not.(Geneva) Jon 1:6 Da trat zu ihm der Schiffsherr und sprach zu ihm: Was schläfst du? Stehe auf, rufe deinen Gott an! ob vielleicht Gott an uns gedenken wollte, daß wir nicht verdürben.(dhs) Jon 1:6 So the captain came to him, and said to him, "What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your God; perhaps your God will consider us, so that we may not perish."(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:7 ============ Jon 1:7 Each man said to his mate, "Come, let us cast lots so we may learn on whose account this calamity has struck us." So they cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah. (nas) Jon 1:7 καὶ εἶπεν ἕκαστος πρὸς τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ δεῦτε βάλωμεν κλήρους καὶ ἐπιγνῶμεν τίνος ἕνεκεν ἡ κακία αὕτη ἐστὶν ἐν ἡμῖν καὶ ἔβαλον κλήρους καὶ ἔπεσεν ὁ κλῆρος ἐπὶ Ιωναν (lxx) Jon 1:7 Et dixit vir ad collegam suum: Venite et mittamus sortes, et sciamus quare hoc malum sit nobis. Et miserunt sortes, et cecidit sors super Jonam.(vulgate) Jonah 1:7 And they saide euery one to his fellowe, Come, and let vs cast lottes, that we may know, for whose cause this euill is vpon vs. So they cast lottes, and the lot fell vpon Ionah.(Geneva) Jon 1:7 Und einer sprach zum andern: Kommt, wir wollen losen, daß wir erfahren, um welches willen es uns so übel gehe. Und da sie losten traf's Jona.(dhs) Jon 1:7 And they said to one another, "Come, let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this trouble has come upon us." So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:8 ============ Jon 1:8 Then they said to him, "Tell us, now! On whose account has this calamity struck us? What is your occupation? And where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?"(nas) Jon 1:8 καὶ εἶπον πρὸς αὐτόν ἀπάγγειλον ἡμῖν τίνος ἕνεκεν ἡ κακία αὕτη ἐστὶν ἐν ἡμῖν τίς σου ἡ ἐργασία ἐστίν καὶ πόθεν ἔρχῃ καὶ ἐκ ποίας χώρας καὶ ἐκ ποίου λαοῦ εἶ σύ (lxx) Jon 1:8 Et dixerunt ad eum: Indica nobis cujus causa malum istud sit nobis: quod est opus tuum? quæ terra tua, et quo vadis? vel ex quo populo es tu?(vulgate) Jonah 1:8 Then said they vnto him, Tell vs for whose cause this euill is vpon vs? what is thine occupation? and whence commest thou? which is thy countrey? and of what people art thou?(Geneva) Jon 1:8 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Sage uns, warum geht es uns so übel? was ist dein Gewerbe, und wo kommst du her? Aus welchem Lande bist du, und von welchem Volk bist du?(dhs) Jon 1:8 Then they said to him, "Please tell us! For whose cause is this trouble upon us? What is your occupation? And where do you come from? What is your country? And of what people are you?"(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:9 ============ Jon 1:9 He said to them, "I am a Hebrew, and I fear the Lord God of heaven who made the sea and the dry land."(nas) Jon 1:9 καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς δοῦλος κυρίου ἐγώ εἰμι καὶ τὸν κύριον θεὸν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἐγὼ σέβομαι ὃς ἐποίησεν τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ τὴν ξηράν (lxx) Jon 1:9 Et dixit ad eos: Hebræus ego sum, et Dominum Deum cæli ego timeo, qui fecit mare et aridam.(vulgate) Jonah 1:9 And he answered them, I am an Ebrewe, and I feare the Lord God of heauen, which hath made the sea, and the dry lande.(Geneva) Jon 1:9 Er sprach zu ihnen: Ich bin ein Hebräer und fürchte den HERRN, den Gott des Himmels, welcher gemacht hat das Meer und das Trockene.(dhs) Jon 1:9 So he said to them, "I am a Hebrew; and I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land."(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:10 ============ Jon 1:10 Then the men became extremely frightened and they said to him, "How could you do this?" For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them. (nas) Jon 1:10 καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν οἱ ἄνδρες φόβον μέγαν καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτόν τί τοῦτο ἐποίησας διότι ἔγνωσαν οἱ ἄνδρες ὅτι ἐκ προσώπου κυρίου ἦν φεύγων ὅτι ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτοῖς (lxx) Jon 1:10 Et timuerunt viri timore magno, et dixerunt ad eum: Quid hoc fecisti? cognoverunt enim viri quod a facie Domini fugeret, quia indicaverat eis.(vulgate) Jonah 1:10 Then were the men exceedingly afrayde, and said vnto him, Why hast thou done this? (for the men knewe, that he fled from the presence of the Lorde, because he had tolde them)(Geneva) Jon 1:10 Da fürchteten sich die Leute sehr und sprachen zu ihm: Warum hast du denn solches getan? denn sie wußten, daß er vor dem HERRN floh; denn er hatte es ihnen gesagt.(dhs) Jon 1:10 Then the men were exceedingly afraid, and said to him, "Why have you done this?" For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:11 ============ Jon 1:11 So they said to him, "What should we do to you that the sea may become calm for us?"--for the sea was becoming increasingly stormy. (nas) Jon 1:11 καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτόν τί σοι ποιήσωμεν καὶ κοπάσει ἡ θάλασσα ἀφ᾽ ἡμῶν ὅτι ἡ θάλασσα ἐπορεύετο καὶ ἐξήγειρεν μᾶλλον κλύδωνα (lxx) Jon 1:11 Et dixerunt ad eum: Quid faciemus tibi, et cessabit mare a nobis? quia mare ibat, et intumescebat.(vulgate) Jonah 1:11 Then saide they vnto him, What shall we doe vnto thee, that the sea may be calme vnto vs? (for the sea wrought and was troublous)(Geneva) Jon 1:11 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Was sollen wir denn mit dir tun, daß uns das Meer still werde? Denn das Meer fuhr ungestüm.(dhs) Jon 1:11 Then they said to him, "What shall we do to you that the sea may be calm for us?"--for the sea was growing more tempestuous.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:12 ============ Jon 1:12 He said to them, "Pick me up and throw me into the sea. Then the sea will become calm for you, for I know that on account of me this great storm has come upon you."(nas) Jon 1:12 καὶ εἶπεν Ιωνας πρὸς αὐτούς ἄρατέ με καὶ ἐμβάλετέ με εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ κοπάσει ἡ θάλασσα ἀφ᾽ ὑμῶν διότι ἔγνωκα ἐγὼ ὅτι δι᾽ ἐμὲ ὁ κλύδων ὁ μέγας οὗτος ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς ἐστιν (lxx) Jon 1:12 Et dixit ad eos: Tollite me, et mittite in mare, et cessabit mare a vobis: scio enim ego quoniam propter me tempestas hæc grandis venit super vos.(vulgate) Jonah 1:12 And he said vnto them, Take me, and cast me into the sea: so shall the sea be calme vnto you: for I knowe that for my sake this great tempest is vpon you.(Geneva) Jon 1:12 Er sprach zu ihnen: Nehmt mich und werft mich ins Meer, so wird euch das Meer still werden. Denn ich weiß, daß solch groß Ungewitter über euch kommt um meinetwillen.(dhs) Jon 1:12 And he said to them, "Pick me up and throw me into the sea; then the sea will become calm for you. For I know that this great tempest is because of me."(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:13 ============ Jon 1:13 However, the men rowed desperately to return to land but they could not, for the sea was becoming even stormier against them. (nas) Jon 1:13 καὶ παρεβιάζοντο οἱ ἄνδρες τοῦ ἐπιστρέψαι πρὸς τὴν γῆν καὶ οὐκ ἠδύναντο ὅτι ἡ θάλασσα ἐπορεύετο καὶ ἐξηγείρετο μᾶλλον ἐπ᾽ αὐτούς (lxx) Jon 1:13 Et remigabant viri ut reverterentur ad aridam, et non valebant, quia mare ibat, et intumescebat super eos.(vulgate) Jonah 1:13 Neuerthelesse, the men rowed to bring it to the lande, but they coulde not: for the sea wrought, and was troublous against them.(Geneva) Jon 1:13 Und die Leute trieben, daß sie wieder zu Lande kämen; aber sie konnten nicht, denn das Meer fuhr ungestüm wider sie.(dhs) Jon 1:13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to return to land, but they could not, for the sea continued to grow more tempestuous against them.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:14 ============ Jon 1:14 Then they called on the Lord and said, "We earnestly pray, O Lord, do not let us perish on account of this man's life and do not put innocent blood on us; for You, O Lord, have done as You have pleased."(nas) Jon 1:14 καὶ ἀνεβόησαν πρὸς κύριον καὶ εἶπαν μηδαμῶς κύριε μὴ ἀπολώμεθα ἕνεκεν τῆς ψυχῆς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τούτου καὶ μὴ δῷς ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς αἷμα δίκαιον ὅτι σύ κύριε ὃν τρόπον ἐβούλου πεποίηκας (lxx) Jon 1:14 Et clamaverunt ad Dominum, et dixerunt: Quæsumus, Domine, ne pereamus in anima viri istius, et ne des super nos sanguinem innocentem: quia tu, Domine, sicut voluisti, fecisti.(vulgate) Jonah 1:14 Wherefore they cryed vnto the Lord, and said, We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, let vs not perish for this mans life, and lay not vpon vs innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done, as it pleased thee.(Geneva) Jon 1:14 Da riefen sie zu dem HERRN und sprachen: Ach HERR, laß uns nicht verderben um dieses Mannes Seele willen und rechne uns nicht zu unschuldig Blut! denn du, HERR, tust, wie dir's gefällt.(dhs) Jon 1:14 Therefore they cried out to the Lord and said, "We pray, O Lord, please do not let us perish for this man's life, and do not charge us with innocent blood; for You, O Lord, have done as it pleased You."(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:15 ============ Jon 1:15 So they picked up Jonah, threw him into the sea, and the sea stopped its raging. (nas) Jon 1:15 καὶ ἔλαβον τὸν Ιωναν καὶ ἐξέβαλον αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ ἔστη ἡ θάλασσα ἐκ τοῦ σάλου αὐτῆς (lxx) Jon 1:15 Et tulerunt Jonam, et miserunt in mare: et stetit mare a fervore suo.(vulgate) Jonah 1:15 So they tooke vp Ionah, and cast him into the sea, and the sea ceased from her raging.(Geneva) Jon 1:15 Und sie nahmen Jona und warfen ihn ins Meer; das stand das Meer still von seinem Wüten.(dhs) Jon 1:15 So they picked up Jonah and threw him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:16 ============ Jon 1:16 Then the men feared the Lord greatly, and they offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows. (nas) Jon 1:16 καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν οἱ ἄνδρες φόβῳ μεγάλῳ τὸν κύριον καὶ ἔθυσαν θυσίαν τῷ κυρίῳ καὶ εὔξαντο εὐχάς (lxx) Jon 1:16 Et timuerunt viri timore magno Dominum: et immolaverunt hostias Domino, et voverunt vota.(vulgate) Jonah 1:16 Then the men feared the Lorde exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice vnto the Lorde, and made vowes.(Geneva) Jon 1:16 Und die Leute fürchteten den HERR sehr und taten dem HERRN Opfer und Gelübde.(dhs) Jon 1:16 Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice to the Lord and took vows.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 1:17 ============ Jon 1:17 And the Lord appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the stomach of the fish three days and three nights. (nas) Jon 1:17 καὶ προσέταξεν κύριος κήτει μεγάλῳ καταπιεῖν τὸν Ιωναν καὶ ἦν Ιωνας ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ τοῦ κήτους τρεῖς ἡμέρας καὶ τρεῖς νύκτας (lxx) Jon 2:1 Et præparavit Dominus piscem grandem ut deglutiret Jonam: et erat Jonas in ventre piscis tribus diebus et tribus noctibus.(vulgate) Jonah 1:17 Nowe the Lorde had prepared a great fish to swallowe vp Ionah: and Ionah was in the belly of the fish three dayes, and three nightes.(Geneva) Jon 1:17 Aber der HERR verschaffte einen großen Fisch, Jona zu verschlingen. Und Jona war im Leibe des Fisches drei Tage und drei Nächte.(dhs) Jon 1:17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.(nkjv) ======= Jonah 2:1 ============ Jon 2:1 Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the stomach of the fish, (nas) Jon 2:1 καὶ προσηύξατο Ιωνας πρὸς κύριον τὸν θεὸν αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας τοῦ κήτους (lxx) Jon 2:2 Et oravit Jonas ad Dominum Deum suum de ventre piscis,(vulgate) Jonah 2:1 Then Ionah prayed vnto the Lorde his God out of the fishes belly,(Geneva) Jon 2:1 Und Jona betete zu dem HERRN, seinem Gott, im Leibe des Fisches.(dhs) Jon 2:1 Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the fish's belly. |
