Today's Date: ======= Genesis 4:1 ============ Gen 4:1 Now the man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, "I have gotten a manchild with the help of the Lord."(nasb) Gen 4:1 Αδαμ δὲ ἔγνω Ευαν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἔτεκεν τὸν Καιν καὶ εἶπεν ἐκτησάμην ἄνθρωπον διὰ τοῦ θεοῦ (lxx) Gen 4:1 Adam vero cognovit uxorem suam Hevam, quæ concepit et peperit Cain, dicens: Possedi hominem per Deum.(vulgate) Gen 4:1 Und Adam erkannte sein Weib Eva, und sie ward schwanger und gebar den Kain und sprach: Ich habe einen Mann gewonnen mit dem HERRN.(dhs) Gen 4:1 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, "I have acquired a man from the Lord."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:2 ============ Gen 4:2 Again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.(nasb) Gen 4:2 καὶ προσέθηκεν τεκεῖν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ τὸν Αβελ καὶ ἐγένετο Αβελ ποιμὴν προβάτων Καιν δὲ ἦν ἐργαζόμενος τὴν γῆν (lxx) Gen 4:2 Rursumque peperit fratrem ejus Abel. Fuit autem Abel pastor ovium, et Cain agricola.(vulgate) Gen 4:2 Und sie fuhr fort und gebar Abel, seinen Bruder. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:3 ============ Gen 4:3 So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the Lord of the fruit of the ground.(nasb) Gen 4:3 καὶ ἐγένετο μεθ᾽ ἡμέρας ἤνεγκεν Καιν ἀπὸ τῶν καρπῶν τῆς γῆς θυσίαν τῷ κυρίῳ (lxx) Gen 4:3 Factum est autem post multos dies ut offerret Cain de fructibus terræ munera Domino.(vulgate) Gen 4:3 Es begab sich nach etlicher Zeit, daß Kain dem HERRN Opfer brachte von den Früchten des Feldes;(dhs) Gen 4:3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:4 ============ Gen 4:4 Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and for his offering;(nasb) Gen 4:4 καὶ Αβελ ἤνεγκεν καὶ αὐτὸς ἀπὸ τῶν πρωτοτόκων τῶν προβάτων αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν στεάτων αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπεῖδεν ὁ θεὸς ἐπὶ Αβελ καὶ ἐπὶ τοῖς δώροις αὐτοῦ (lxx) Gen 4:4 Abel quoque obtulit de primogenitis gregis sui, et de adipibus eorum: et respexit Dominus ad Abel, et ad munera ejus.(vulgate) Gen 4:4 und Abel brachte auch von den Erstlingen seiner Herde und von ihrem Fett. Und der HERR sah gnädig an Abel und sein Opfer;(dhs) Gen 4:4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering,(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:5 ============ Gen 4:5 but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell.(nasb) Gen 4:5 ἐπὶ δὲ Καιν καὶ ἐπὶ ταῖς θυσίαις αὐτοῦ οὐ προσέσχεν καὶ ἐλύπησεν τὸν Καιν λίαν καὶ συνέπεσεν τῷ προσώπῳ (lxx) Gen 4:5 Ad Cain vero, et ad munera illius non respexit: iratusque est Cain vehementer, et concidit vultus ejus.(vulgate) Gen 4:5 aber Kain und sein Opfer sah er nicht gnädig an. Da ergrimmte Kain sehr, und seine Gebärde verstellte sich.(dhs) Gen 4:5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:6 ============ Gen 4:6 Then the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?(nasb) Gen 4:6 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς τῷ Καιν ἵνα τί περίλυπος ἐγένου καὶ ἵνα τί συνέπεσεν τὸ πρόσωπόν σου (lxx) Gen 4:6 Dixitque Dominus ad eum: Quare iratus es? et cur concidit facies tua?(vulgate) Gen 4:6 Da sprach der HERR zu Kain: Warum ergrimmst du? und warum verstellt sich deine Gebärde?(dhs) Gen 4:6 So the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:7 ============ Gen 4:7 If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it."(nasb) Gen 4:7 οὐκ ἐὰν ὀρθῶς προσενέγκῃς ὀρθῶς δὲ μὴ διέλῃς ἥμαρτες ἡσύχασον πρὸς σὲ ἡ ἀποστροφὴ αὐτοῦ καὶ σὺ ἄρξεις αὐτοῦ (lxx) Gen 4:7 nonne si bene egeris, recipies: sin autem male, statim in foribus peccatum aderit? sed sub te erit appetitus ejus, et tu dominaberis illius.(vulgate) Gen 4:7 Ist's nicht also? Wenn du fromm bist, so bist du angenehm; bist du aber nicht fromm, so ruht die Sünde vor der Tür, und nach dir hat sie Verlangen; du aber herrsche über sie.(dhs) Gen 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.(nasb) Gen 4:8 καὶ εἶπεν Καιν πρὸς Αβελ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ διέλθωμεν εἰς τὸ πεδίον καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ εἶναι αὐτοὺς ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ καὶ ἀνέστη Καιν ἐπὶ Αβελ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν αὐτόν (lxx) Gen 4:8 Dixitque Cain ad Abel fratrem suum: Egrediamur foras. Cumque essent in agro, consurrexit Cain adversus fratrem suum Abel, et interfecit eum.(vulgate) Gen 4:8 Da redete Kain mit seinem Bruder Abel. Qui respondit: Nescio: num custos fratris mei sum ego?(vulgate) Gen 4:9 Da sprach der HERR zu Kain: Wo ist dein Bruder Abel? Er sprach: Ich weiß nicht; soll ich meines Bruders Hüter sein?(dhs) Gen 4:9 Then the Lord said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" He said, "I do not know. The voice of your brother's blood is crying to Me from the ground.(nasb) Gen 4:10 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ θεός τί ἐποίησας φωνὴ αἵματος τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου βοᾷ πρός με ἐκ τῆς γῆς (lxx) Gen 4:10 Dixitque ad eum: Quid fecisti? vox sanguinis fratris tui clamat ad me de terra.(vulgate) Gen 4:10 Er aber sprach: Was hast du getan? Die Stimme des Bluts deines Bruders schreit zu mir von der Erde.(dhs) Gen 4:10 And He said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:11 ============ Gen 4:11 Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.(nasb) Gen 4:11 καὶ νῦν ἐπικατάρατος σὺ ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς ἣ ἔχανεν τὸ στόμα αὐτῆς δέξασθαι τὸ αἷμα τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου ἐκ τῆς χειρός σου (lxx) Gen 4:11 Nunc igitur maledictus eris super terram, quæ aperuit os suum, et suscepit sanguinem fratris tui de manu tua.(vulgate) Gen 4:11 Und nun verflucht seist du auf der Erde, die ihr Maul hat aufgetan und deines Bruders Blut von deinen Händen empfangen.(dhs) Gen 4:11 So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:12 ============ Gen 4:12 When you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you; you will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth."(nasb) Gen 4:12 ὅτι ἐργᾷ τὴν γῆν καὶ οὐ προσθήσει τὴν ἰσχὺν αὐτῆς δοῦναί σοι στένων καὶ τρέμων ἔσῃ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς (lxx) Gen 4:12 Cum operatus fueris eam, non dabit tibi fructus suos: vagus et profugus eris super terram.(vulgate) Gen 4:12 Wenn du den Acker bauen wirst, soll er dir hinfort sein Vermögen nicht geben. Unstet und flüchtig sollst du sein auf Erden.(dhs) Gen 4:12 When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:13 ============ Gen 4:13 Cain said to the Lord, "My punishment is too great to bear!(nasb) Gen 4:13 καὶ εἶπεν Καιν πρὸς τὸν κύριον μείζων ἡ αἰτία μου τοῦ ἀφεθῆναί με (lxx) Gen 4:13 Dixitque Cain ad Dominum: Major est iniquitas mea, quam ut veniam merear.(vulgate) Gen 4:13 Kain aber sprach zu dem HERRN: Meine Sünde ist größer, denn daß sie mir vergeben werden möge.(dhs) Gen 4:13 And Cain said to the Lord, "My punishment is greater than I can bear!(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:14 ============ Gen 4:14 Behold, You have driven me this day from the face of the ground; and from Your face I will be hidden, and I will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me."(nasb) Gen 4:14 εἰ ἐκβάλλεις με σήμερον ἀπὸ προσώπου τῆς γῆς καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ προσώπου σου κρυβήσομαι καὶ ἔσομαι στένων καὶ τρέμων ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ ἔσται πᾶς ὁ εὑρίσκων με ἀποκτενεῖ με (lxx) Gen 4:14 Ecce ejicis me hodie a facie terræ, et a facie tua abscondar, et ero vagus et profugus in terra: omnis igitur qui invenerit me, occidet me.(vulgate) Gen 4:14 Siehe, du treibst mich heute aus dem Lande, und ich muß mich vor deinem Angesicht verbergen und muß unstet und flüchtig sein auf Erden. So wird mir's gehen, daß mich totschlage, wer mich findet.(dhs) Gen 4:14 Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:15 ============ Gen 4:15 So the Lord said to him, "Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold." And the Lord appointed a sign for Cain, so that no one finding him would slay him.(nasb) Gen 4:15 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ κύριος ὁ θεός οὐχ οὕτως πᾶς ὁ ἀποκτείνας Καιν ἑπτὰ ἐκδικούμενα παραλύσει καὶ ἔθετο κύριος ὁ θεὸς σημεῖον τῷ Καιν τοῦ μὴ ἀνελεῖν αὐτὸν πάντα τὸν εὑρίσκοντα αὐτόν (lxx) Gen 4:15 Dixitque ei Dominus: Nequaquam ita fiet: sed omnis qui occiderit Cain, septuplum punietur. Posuitque Dominus Cain signum, ut non interficeret eum omnis qui invenisset eum.(vulgate) Gen 4:15 Aber der HERR sprach zu ihm: Nein; sondern wer Kain totschlägt, das soll siebenfältig gerächt werden. Und der HERR machte ein Zeichen an Kain, daß ihn niemand erschlüge, wer ihn fände.(dhs) Gen 4:15 And the Lord said to him, "Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold." And the Lord set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:16 ============ Gen 4:16 Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.(nasb) Gen 4:16 ἐξῆλθεν δὲ Καιν ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ᾤκησεν ἐν γῇ Ναιδ κατέναντι Εδεμ (lxx) Gen 4:16 Egressusque Cain a facie Domini, habitavit profugus in terra ad orientalem plagam Eden.~(vulgate) Gen 4:16 Also ging Kain von dem Angesicht des HERRN und wohnte im Lande Nod, jenseit Eden, gegen Morgen.(dhs) Gen 4:16 Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:17 ============ Gen 4:17 Cain had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son.(nasb) Gen 4:17 καὶ ἔγνω Καιν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἔτεκεν τὸν Ενωχ καὶ ἦν οἰκοδομῶν πόλιν καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν τὴν πόλιν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ Ενωχ (lxx) Gen 4:17 Cognovit autem Cain uxorem suam, quæ concepit, et peperit Henoch: et ædificavit civitatem, vocavitque nomen ejus ex nomine filii sui, Henoch.(vulgate) Gen 4:17 Und Kain erkannte sein Weib, die ward schwanger und gebar den Henoch. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:21 ============ Gen 4:21 His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.(nasb) Gen 4:21 καὶ ὄνομα τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ Ιουβαλ οὗτος ἦν ὁ καταδείξας ψαλτήριον καὶ κιθάραν (lxx) Gen 4:21 Et nomen fratris ejus Jubal: ipse fuit pater canentium cithara et organo.(vulgate) Gen 4:21 Und sein Bruder hieß Jubal; von dem sind hergekommen die Geiger und Pfeifer.(dhs) Gen 4:21 His brother's name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:22 ============ Gen 4:22 As for Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.(nasb) Gen 4:22 Σελλα δὲ ἔτεκεν καὶ αὐτὴ τὸν Θοβελ καὶ ἦν σφυροκόπος χαλκεὺς χαλκοῦ καὶ σιδήρου ἀδελφὴ δὲ Θοβελ Νοεμα (lxx) Gen 4:22 Sella quoque genuit Tubalcain, qui fuit malleator et faber in cuncta opera æris et ferri. Soror vero Tubalcain, Noëma.(vulgate) Gen 4:22 Die Zilla aber gebar auch, nämlich den Thubalkain, den Meister in allerlei Erz-und Eisenwerk. Und die Schwester des Thubalkain war Naema.(dhs) Gen 4:22 And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:23 ============ Gen 4:23 Lamech said to his wives," Adah and Zillah, Listen to my voice, You wives of Lamech, Give heed to my speech, For I have killed a man for wounding me; And a boy for striking me;(nasb) Gen 4:23 εἶπεν δὲ Λαμεχ ταῖς ἑαυτοῦ γυναιξίν Αδα καὶ Σελλα ἀκούσατέ μου τῆς φωνῆς γυναῖκες Λαμεχ ἐνωτίσασθέ μου τοὺς λόγους ὅτι ἄνδρα ἀπέκτεινα εἰς τραῦμα ἐμοὶ καὶ νεανίσκον εἰς μώλωπα ἐμοί (lxx) Gen 4:23 Dixitque Lamech uxoribus suis Adæ et Sellæ: [Audite vocem meam, uxores Lamech; auscultate sermonem meum: quoniam occidi virum in vulnus meum, et adolescentulum in livorem meum.(vulgate) Gen 4:23 Und Lamech sprach zu seinen Weibern Ada und Zilla: Ihr Weiber Lamechs, hört meine Rede und merkt, was ich sage: Ich habe einen Mann erschlagen für meine Wunde und einen Jüngling für meine Beule;(dhs) Gen 4:23 Then Lamech said to his wives: "Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; Wives of Lamech, listen to my speech! For I have killed a man for wounding me, Even a young man for hurting me.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:24 ============ Gen 4:24 If Cain is avenged sevenfold, Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold."(nasb) Gen 4:24 ὅτι ἑπτάκις ἐκδεδίκηται ἐκ Καιν ἐκ δὲ Λαμεχ ἑβδομηκοντάκις ἑπτά (lxx) Gen 4:24 Septuplum ultio dabitur de Cain: de Lamech vero septuagies septies.]~(vulgate) Gen 4:24 Kain soll siebenmal gerächt werden, aber Lamech siebenundsiebzigmal.(dhs) Gen 4:24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:25 ============ Gen 4:25 Adam had relations with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, for, she said, "God has appointed me another offspring in place of Abel, for Cain killed him."(nasb) Gen 4:25 ἔγνω δὲ Αδαμ Ευαν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἔτεκεν υἱὸν καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Σηθ λέγουσα ἐξανέστησεν γάρ μοι ὁ θεὸς σπέρμα ἕτερον ἀντὶ Αβελ ὃν ἀπέκτεινεν Καιν (lxx) Gen 4:25 Cognovit quoque adhuc Adam uxorem suam: et peperit filium, vocavitque nomen ejus Seth, dicens: Posuit mihi Deus semen aliud pro Abel, quem occidit Cain.(vulgate) Gen 4:25 Adam erkannte abermals sein Weib, und sie gebar einen Sohn, den hieß sie Seth; denn Gott hat mir, sprach sie, einen andern Samen gesetzt für Abel, den Kain erwürgt hat.(dhs) Gen 4:25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, "For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 4:26 ============ Gen 4:26 To Seth, to him also a son was born; and he called his name Enosh. Then men began to call upon the name of the Lord.(nasb) Gen 4:26 καὶ τῷ Σηθ ἐγένετο υἱός ἐπωνόμασεν δὲ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ενως οὗτος ἤλπισεν ἐπικαλεῖσθαι τὸ ὄνομα κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ (lxx) Gen 4:26 Sed et Seth natus est filius, quem vocavit Enos: iste cœpit invocare nomen Domini.(vulgate) Gen 4:26 Und Seth zeugte auch einen Sohn und hieß ihn Enos. Zu der Zeit fing man an, zu predigen von des HERRN Namen.(dhs) Gen 4:26 And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh.
