Today's Date: ======= Genesis 34:1 ============ Gen 34:1 Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the daughters of the land.(nasb) Gen 34:1 ἐξῆλθεν δὲ Δινα ἡ θυγάτηρ Λειας ἣν ἔτεκεν τῷ Ιακωβ καταμαθεῖν τὰς θυγατέρας τῶν ἐγχωρίων (lxx) Gen 34:1 Egressa est autem Dina filia Liæ ut videret mulieres regionis illius.(vulgate) Gen 34:1 Dina aber, Leas Tochter, die sie Jakob geboren hatte, ging heraus, die Töchter des Landes zu sehen.(dhs) Gen 34:1 Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:2 ============ Gen 34:2 When Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, he took her and lay with her by force.(nasb) Gen 34:2 καὶ εἶδεν αὐτὴν Συχεμ ὁ υἱὸς Εμμωρ ὁ Χορραῖος ὁ ἄρχων τῆς γῆς καὶ λαβὼν αὐτὴν ἐκοιμήθη μετ᾽ αὐτῆς καὶ ἐταπείνωσεν αὐτήν (lxx) Gen 34:2 Quam cum vidisset Sichem filius Hemor Hevæi, princeps terræ illius, adamavit eam: et rapuit, et dormivit cum illa, vi opprimens virginem.(vulgate) Gen 34:2 Da die sah Sichem, Hemors Sohn, des Heviters, der des Landes Herr war, nahm er sie und lag bei ihr und schwächte sie.(dhs) Gen 34:2 And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her and lay with her, and violated her.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:3 ============ Gen 34:3 He was deeply attracted to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl and spoke tenderly to her.(nasb) Gen 34:3 καὶ προσέσχεν τῇ ψυχῇ Δινας τῆς θυγατρὸς Ιακωβ καὶ ἠγάπησεν τὴν παρθένον καὶ ἐλάλησεν κατὰ τὴν διάνοιαν τῆς παρθένου αὐτῇ (lxx) Gen 34:3 Et conglutinata est anima ejus cum ea, tristemque delinivit blanditiis.(vulgate) Gen 34:3 Und sein Herz hing an ihr, und er hatte die Dirne lieb und redete freundlich mit ihr.(dhs) Gen 34:3 His soul was strongly attracted to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the young woman and spoke kindly to the young woman.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:4 ============ Gen 34:4 So Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, "Get me this young girl for a wife."(nasb) Gen 34:4 εἶπεν δὲ Συχεμ πρὸς Εμμωρ τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ λέγων λαβέ μοι τὴν παιδίσκην ταύτην εἰς γυναῖκα (lxx) Gen 34:4 Et pergens ad Hemor patrem suum: Accipe, inquit, mihi puellam hanc conjugem.(vulgate) Gen 34:4 Und Sichem sprach zu seinem Vater Hemor: Nimm mir das Mägdlein zum Weibe.(dhs) Gen 34:4 So Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, "Get me this young woman as a wife."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:5 ============ Gen 34:5 Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter; but his sons were with his livestock in the field, so Jacob kept silent until they came in.(nasb) Gen 34:5 Ιακωβ δὲ ἤκουσεν ὅτι ἐμίανεν ὁ υἱὸς Εμμωρ Διναν τὴν θυγατέρα αὐτοῦ οἱ δὲ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ ἦσαν μετὰ τῶν κτηνῶν αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ παρεσιώπησεν δὲ Ιακωβ ἕως τοῦ ἐλθεῖν αὐτούς (lxx) Gen 34:5 Quod cum audisset Jacob absentibus filiis, et in pastu pecorum occupatis, siluit donec redirent.~(vulgate) Gen 34:5 Und Jakob erfuhr, daß seine Tochter Dina geschändet war; und seine Söhne waren mit dem Vieh auf dem Felde, und Jakob schwieg bis daß sie kamen.(dhs) Gen 34:5 And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter. Now his sons were with his livestock in the field; so Jacob held his peace until they came.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:6 ============ Gen 34:6 Then Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to speak with him.(nasb) Gen 34:6 ἐξῆλθεν δὲ Εμμωρ ὁ πατὴρ Συχεμ πρὸς Ιακωβ λαλῆσαι αὐτῷ (lxx) Gen 34:6 Egresso autem Hemor patre Sichem ut loqueretur ad Jacob,(vulgate) Gen 34:6 Da ging Hemor, Sichems Vater, heraus zu Jakob, mit ihm zu reden.(dhs) Gen 34:6 Then Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to speak with him.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:7 ============ Gen 34:7 Now the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it; and the men were grieved, and they were very angry because he had done a disgraceful thing in Israel by lying with Jacob's daughter, for such a thing ought not to be done.(nasb) Gen 34:7 οἱ δὲ υἱοὶ Ιακωβ ἦλθον ἐκ τοῦ πεδίου ὡς δὲ ἤκουσαν κατενύχθησαν οἱ ἄνδρες καὶ λυπηρὸν ἦν αὐτοῖς σφόδρα ὅτι ἄσχημον ἐποίησεν ἐν Ισραηλ κοιμηθεὶς μετὰ τῆς θυγατρὸς Ιακωβ καὶ οὐχ οὕτως ἔσται (lxx) Gen 34:7 ecce filii ejus veniebant de agro: auditoque quod acciderat, irati sunt valde, eo quod fœdam rem operatus esset in Israël et, violata filia Jacob, rem illicitam perpetrasset.(vulgate) Gen 34:7 Indes kamen die Söhne Jakobs vom Felde. Und da sie es hörten, verdroß es die Männer, und sie wurden sehr zornig, daß er eine Torheit an Israel begangen und bei Jakobs Tochter gelegen hatte, denn so sollte es nicht sein.(dhs) Gen 34:7 And the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it; and the men were grieved and very angry, because he had done a disgraceful thing in Israel by lying with Jacob's daughter, a thing which ought not to be done.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:8 ============ Gen 34:8 But Hamor spoke with them, saying, "The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter; please give her to him in marriage.(nasb) Gen 34:8 καὶ ἐλάλησεν Εμμωρ αὐτοῖς λέγων Συχεμ ὁ υἱός μου προείλατο τῇ ψυχῇ τὴν θυγατέρα ὑμῶν δότε οὖν αὐτὴν αὐτῷ γυναῖκα (lxx) Gen 34:8 Locutus est itaque Hemor ad eos: Sichem filii mei adhæsit anima filiæ vestræ: date eam illi uxorem:(vulgate) Gen 34:8 Da redete Hemor mit ihnen und sprach: Meines Sohnes Sichem Herz sehnt sich nach eurer Tochter; gebt sie ihm doch zum Weibe.(dhs) Gen 34:8 But Hamor spoke with them, saying, "The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter. Please give her to him as a wife.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:9 ============ Gen 34:9 Intermarry with us; give your daughters to us and take our daughters for yourselves.(nasb) Gen 34:9 ἐπιγαμβρεύσασθε ἡμῖν τὰς θυγατέρας ὑμῶν δότε ἡμῖν καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας ἡμῶν λάβετε τοῖς υἱοῖς ὑμῶν (lxx) Gen 34:9 et jungamus vicissim connubia: filias vestras tradite nobis, et filias nostras accipite,(vulgate) Gen 34:9 Befreundet euch mit uns; gebt uns eure Töchter und nehmt ihr unsere Töchter(dhs) Gen 34:9 And make marriages with us; give your daughters to us, and take our daughters to yourselves.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:10 ============ Gen 34:10 Thus you shall live with us, and the land shall be open before you; live and trade in it and acquire property in it."(nasb) Gen 34:10 καὶ ἐν ἡμῖν κατοικεῖτε καὶ ἡ γῆ ἰδοὺ πλατεῖα ἐναντίον ὑμῶν κατοικεῖτε καὶ ἐμπορεύεσθε ἐπ᾽ αὐτῆς καὶ ἐγκτήσασθε ἐν αὐτῇ (lxx) Gen 34:10 et habitate nobiscum: terra in potestate vestra est: exercete, negotiamini, et possidete eam.(vulgate) Gen 34:10 und wohnt bei uns. Das Land soll euch offen sein; wohnt und werbet und gewinnet darin.(dhs) Gen 34:10 So you shall dwell with us, and the land shall be before you. Dwell and trade in it, and acquire possessions for yourselves in it."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:11 ============ Gen 34:11 Shechem also said to her father and to her brothers, "If I find favor in your sight, then I will give whatever you say to me.(nasb) Gen 34:11 εἶπεν δὲ Συχεμ πρὸς τὸν πατέρα αὐτῆς καὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτῆς εὕροιμι χάριν ἐναντίον ὑμῶν καὶ ὃ ἐὰν εἴπητε δώσομεν (lxx) Gen 34:11 Sed et Sichem ad patrem et ad fratres ejus ait: Inveniam gratiam coram vobis: et quæcumque statueritis, dabo:(vulgate) Gen 34:11 Und Sichem sprach zu ihrem Vater und ihren Brüdern: Laßt uns Gnade bei euch finden; was ihr mir sagt, das will ich euch geben.(dhs) Gen 34:11 Then Shechem said to her father and her brothers, "Let me find favor in your eyes, and whatever you say to me I will give.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:12 ============ Gen 34:12 Ask me ever so much bridal payment and gift, and I will give according as you say to me; but give me the girl in marriage."(nasb) Gen 34:12 πληθύνατε τὴν φερνὴν σφόδρα καὶ δώσω καθότι ἂν εἴπητέ μοι καὶ δώσετέ μοι τὴν παῖδα ταύτην εἰς γυναῖκα (lxx) Gen 34:12 augete dotem, et munera postulate, et libenter tribuam quod petieritis: tantum date mihi puellam hanc uxorem.(vulgate) Gen 34:12 Fordert nur getrost von mir Morgengabe und Geschenk, ich will's geben, wie ihr heischt; gebt mir nur die Dirne zum Weibe.(dhs) Gen 34:12 Ask me ever so much dowry and gift, and I will give according to what you say to me; but give me the young woman as a wife."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:13 ============ Gen 34:13 But Jacob's sons answered Shechem and his father Hamor with deceit, because he had defiled Dinah their sister.(nasb) Gen 34:13 ἀπεκρίθησαν δὲ οἱ υἱοὶ Ιακωβ τῷ Συχεμ καὶ Εμμωρ τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ μετὰ δόλου καὶ ἐλάλησαν αὐτοῖς ὅτι ἐμίαναν Διναν τὴν ἀδελφὴν αὐτῶν (lxx) Gen 34:13 Responderunt filii Jacob Sichem et patri ejus in dolo, sævientes ob stuprum sororis:(vulgate) Gen 34:13 Da antworteten Jakobs Söhne dem Sichem und seinem Vater Hemor betrüglich, darum daß ihre Schwester Dina geschändet war,(dhs) Gen 34:13 But the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father, and spoke deceitfully, because he had defiled Dinah their sister.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:14 ============ Gen 34:14 They said to them, "We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised, for that would be a disgrace to us.(nasb) Gen 34:14 καὶ εἶπαν αὐτοῖς Συμεων καὶ Λευι οἱ ἀδελφοὶ Δινας υἱοὶ δὲ Λειας οὐ δυνησόμεθα ποιῆσαι τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο δοῦναι τὴν ἀδελφὴν ἡμῶν ἀνθρώπῳ ὃς ἔχει ἀκροβυστίαν ἔστιν γὰρ ὄνειδος ἡμῖν (lxx) Gen 34:14 Non possumus facere quod petitis, nec dare sororem nostram homini incircumciso: quod illicitum et nefarium est apud nos.(vulgate) Gen 34:14 und sprachen zu ihnen: Wir können das nicht tun, daß wir unsere Schwester einem unbeschnittenem Mann geben; denn das wäre uns eine Schande.(dhs) Gen 34:14 And they said to them, "We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised, for that would be a reproach to us.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:15 ============ Gen 34:15 Only on this condition will we consent to you: if you will become like us, in that every male of you be circumcised,(nasb) Gen 34:15 ἐν τούτῳ ὁμοιωθησόμεθα ὑμῖν καὶ κατοικήσομεν ἐν ὑμῖν ἐὰν γένησθε ὡς ἡμεῖς καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐν τῷ περιτμηθῆναι ὑμῶν πᾶν ἀρσενικόν (lxx) Gen 34:15 Sed in hoc valebimus fœderari, si volueritis esse similes nostri, et circumcidatur in vobis omne masculini sexus;(vulgate) Gen 34:15 Doch dann wollen wir euch zu Willen sein, so ihr uns gleich werdet und alles, was männlich unter euch ist, beschnitten werde;(dhs) Gen 34:15 But on this condition we will consent to you: If you will become as we are, if every male of you is circumcised,(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:16 ============ Gen 34:16 then we will give our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters for ourselves, and we will live with you and become one people.(nasb) Gen 34:16 καὶ δώσομεν τὰς θυγατέρας ἡμῶν ὑμῖν καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων ὑμῶν λημψόμεθα ἡμῖν γυναῖκας καὶ οἰκήσομεν παρ᾽ ὑμῖν καὶ ἐσόμεθα ὡς γένος ἕν (lxx) Gen 34:16 tunc dabimus et accipiemus mutuo filias vestras ac nostras: et habitabimus vobiscum, erimusque unus populus.(vulgate) Gen 34:16 dann wollen wir unsere Töchter euch geben und eure Töchter uns nehmen und bei euch wohnen und ein Volk sein.(dhs) Gen 34:16 then we will give our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters to us; and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:17 ============ Gen 34:17 But if you will not listen to us to be circumcised, then we will take our daughter and go."(nasb) Gen 34:17 ἐὰν δὲ μὴ εἰσακούσητε ἡμῶν τοῦ περιτέμνεσθαι λαβόντες τὰς θυγατέρας ἡμῶν ἀπελευσόμεθα (lxx) Gen 34:17 Si autem circumcidi nolueritis, tollemus filiam nostram, et recedemus.(vulgate) Gen 34:17 Wo ihr aber nicht darein willigen wollt, euch zu beschneiden, so wollen wir unsere Tochter nehmen und davonziehen.(dhs) Gen 34:17 But if you will not heed us and be circumcised, then we will take our daughter and be gone."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:18 ============ Gen 34:18 Now their words seemed reasonable to Hamor and Shechem, Hamor's son.(nasb) Gen 34:18 καὶ ἤρεσαν οἱ λόγοι ἐναντίον Εμμωρ καὶ ἐναντίον Συχεμ τοῦ υἱοῦ Εμμωρ (lxx) Gen 34:18 Placuit oblatio eorum Hemor, et Sichem filio ejus,(vulgate) Gen 34:18 Die Rede gefiel Hemor und seinem Sohn wohl.(dhs) Gen 34:18 And their words pleased Hamor and Shechem, Hamor's son.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:19 ============ Gen 34:19 The young man did not delay to do the thing, because he was delighted with Jacob's daughter. Now he was more respected than all the household of his father.(nasb) Gen 34:19 καὶ οὐκ ἐχρόνισεν ὁ νεανίσκος τοῦ ποιῆσαι τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ἐνέκειτο γὰρ τῇ θυγατρὶ Ιακωβ αὐτὸς δὲ ἦν ἐνδοξότατος πάντων τῶν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ (lxx) Gen 34:19 nec distulit adolescens quin statim quod petebatur expleret: amabat enim puellam valde, et ipse erat inclytus in omni domo patris sui.(vulgate) Gen 34:19 Und der Jüngling verzog nicht, solches zu tun; denn er hatte Lust zu der Tochter Jakobs. Und er war herrlich gehalten über alle in seines Vaters Hause.(dhs) Gen 34:19 So the young man did not delay to do the thing, because he delighted in Jacob's daughter. He was more honorable than all the household of his father.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:20 ============ Gen 34:20 So Hamor and his son Shechem came to the gate of their city and spoke to the men of their city, saying,(nasb) Gen 34:20 ἦλθεν δὲ Εμμωρ καὶ Συχεμ ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ πρὸς τὴν πύλην τῆς πόλεως αὐτῶν καὶ ἐλάλησαν πρὸς τοὺς ἄνδρας τῆς πόλεως αὐτῶν λέγοντες (lxx) Gen 34:20 Ingressique portam urbis, locuti sunt ad populum:(vulgate) Gen 34:20 Da kamen sie nun, Hemor und sein Sohn Sichem, unter der Stadt Tor und redeten mit den Bürgern der Stadt und sprachen:(dhs) Gen 34:20 And Hamor and Shechem his son came to the gate of their city, and spoke with the men of their city, saying:(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:21 ============ Gen 34:21 "These men are friendly with us; therefore let them live in the land and trade in it, for behold, the land is large enough for them. Let us take their daughters in marriage, and give our daughters to them.(nasb) Gen 34:21 οἱ ἄνθρωποι οὗτοι εἰρηνικοί εἰσιν μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν οἰκείτωσαν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ ἐμπορευέσθωσαν αὐτήν ἡ δὲ γῆ ἰδοὺ πλατεῖα ἐναντίον αὐτῶν τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτῶν λημψόμεθα ἡμῖν γυναῖκας καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας ἡμῶν δώσομεν αὐτοῖς (lxx) Gen 34:21 Viri isti pacifici sunt, et volunt habitare nobiscum: negotientur in terra, et exerceant eam, quæ spatiosa et lata cultoribus indiget: filias eorum accipiemus uxores, et nostras illis dabimus.(vulgate) Gen 34:21 Diese Leute sind friedsam bei uns und wollen im Lande wohnen und werben; so ist nun das Land weit genug für sie. Wir wollen uns ihre Töchter zu Weibern nehmen und ihnen unser Töchter geben.(dhs) Gen 34:21 "These men are at peace with us. Therefore let them dwell in the land and trade in it. For indeed the land is large enough for them. Let us take their daughters to us as wives, and let us give them our daughters.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:22 ============ Gen 34:22 Only on this condition will the men consent to us to live with us, to become one people: that every male among us be circumcised as they are circumcised.(nasb) Gen 34:22 μόνον ἐν τούτῳ ὁμοιωθήσονται ἡμῖν οἱ ἄνθρωποι τοῦ κατοικεῖν μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν ὥστε εἶναι λαὸν ἕνα ἐν τῷ περιτέμνεσθαι ἡμῶν πᾶν ἀρσενικόν καθὰ καὶ αὐτοὶ περιτέτμηνται (lxx) Gen 34:22 Unum est quo differtur tantum bonum: si circumcidamus masculos nostros, ritum gentis imitantes.(vulgate) Gen 34:22 Aber dann wollen sie uns zu Willen sein, daß sie bei uns wohnen und ein Volk mit uns werden, wo wir alles, was männlich unter uns ist, beschneiden, gleich wie sie beschnitten sind.(dhs) Gen 34:22 Only on this condition will the men consent to dwell with us, to be one people: if every male among us is circumcised as they are circumcised.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:23 ============ Gen 34:23 Will not their livestock and their property and all their animals be ours? Only let us consent to them, and they will live with us."(nasb) Gen 34:23 καὶ τὰ κτήνη αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ τετράποδα οὐχ ἡμῶν ἔσται μόνον ἐν τούτῳ ὁμοιωθῶμεν αὐτοῖς καὶ οἰκήσουσιν μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν (lxx) Gen 34:23 Et substantia eorum, et pecora, et cuncta quæ possident, nostra erunt: tantum in hoc acquiescamus, et habitantes simul, unum efficiemus populum.(vulgate) Gen 34:23 Ihr Vieh und ihre Güter und alles, was sie haben, wird unser sein, so wir nur ihnen zu Willen werden, daß sie bei uns wohnen.(dhs) Gen 34:23 Will not their livestock, their property, and every animal of theirs be ours? All their little ones and their wives they took captive; and they plundered even all that was in the houses.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 34:30 ============ Gen 34:30 Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have brought trouble on me by making me odious among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and my men being few in number, they will gather together against me and attack me and I will be destroyed, I and my household."(nasb) Gen 34:30 εἶπεν δὲ Ιακωβ Συμεων καὶ Λευι μισητόν με πεποιήκατε ὥστε πονηρόν με εἶναι πᾶσιν τοῖς κατοικοῦσιν τὴν γῆν ἔν τε τοῖς Χαναναίοις καὶ τοῖς Φερεζαίοις ἐγὼ δὲ ὀλιγοστός εἰμι ἐν ἀριθμῷ καὶ συναχθέντες ἐπ᾽ ἐμὲ συγκόψουσίν με καὶ ἐκτριβήσομαι ἐγὼ καὶ ὁ οἶκός μου (lxx) Gen 34:30 Quibus patratis audacter, Jacob dixit ad Simeon et Levi: Turbastis me, et odiosum fecistis me Chananæis, et Pherezæis habitatoribus terræ hujus: nos pauci sumus; illi congregati percutient me, et delebor ego, et domus mea.(vulgate) Gen 34:30 Und Jakob sprach zu Simeon und Levi: Ihr habt mir Unglück zugerichtet und mich stinkend gemacht vor den Einwohnern dieses Landes, den Kanaanitern und Pheresitern; und ich bin ein geringer Haufe.
