Today's Date: Job 19:29 Be afraid of the sword for yourselves; For wrath brings the punishment of the sword, That you may know there is a judgment."(nkjv) ======= Job 20:1 ============ Job 20:1 Then Zophar the Naamathite answered,(nasb) Job 20:1 ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Σωφαρ ὁ Μιναῖος λέγει (lxx) Job 20:1 Respondens autem Sophar Naamathites, dixit:(vulgate) Job 20:1 Da antwortete Zophar von Naema und sprach:(dhs) Job 20:1 Then Zophar the Naamathite answered and said:(nkjv) ======= Job 20:2 ============ Job 20:2 "Therefore my disquieting thoughts make me respond, Even because of my inward agitation.(nasb) Job 20:2 οὐχ οὕτως ὑπελάμβανον ἀντερεῖν σε ταῦτα καὶ οὐχὶ συνίετε μᾶλλον ἢ καὶ ἐγώ (lxx) Job 20:2 [Idcirco cogitationes meæ variæ succedunt sibi, et mens in diversa rapitur.(vulgate) Job 20:2 Darauf muß ich antworten und kann nicht harren.(dhs) Job 20:2 "Therefore my anxious thoughts make me answer, Because of the turmoil within me.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:3 ============ Job 20:3 "I listened to the reproof which insults me, And the spirit of my understanding makes me answer.(nasb) Job 20:3 παιδείαν ἐντροπῆς μου ἀκούσομαι καὶ πνεῦμα ἐκ τῆς συνέσεως ἀποκρίνεταί μοι (lxx) Job 20:3 Doctrinam qua me arguis audiam, et spiritus intelligentiæ meæ respondebit mihi.(vulgate) Job 20:3 Denn ich muß hören, wie man mich straft und tadelt; aber der Geist meines Verstandes soll für mich antworten.(dhs) Job 20:3 I have heard the rebuke that reproaches me, And the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:4 ============ Job 20:4 "Do you know this from of old, From the establishment of man on earth,(nasb) Job 20:4 μὴ ταῦτα ἔγνως ἀπὸ τοῦ ἔτι ἀφ᾽ οὗ ἐτέθη ἄνθρωπος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς (lxx) Job 20:4 Hoc scio a principio, ex quo positus est homo super terram,(vulgate) Job 20:4 Weißt du nicht, daß es allezeit so gegangen ist, seitdem Menschen auf Erden gewesen sind:(dhs) Job 20:4 "Do you not know this of old, Since man was placed on earth,(nkjv) ======= Job 20:5 ============ Job 20:5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the godless momentary?(nasb) Job 20:5 εὐφροσύνη γὰρ ἀσεβῶν πτῶμα ἐξαίσιον χαρμονὴ δὲ παρανόμων ἀπώλεια (lxx) Job 20:5 quod laus impiorum brevis sit, et gaudium hypocritæ ad instar puncti.(vulgate) Job 20:5 daß der Ruhm der Gottlosen steht nicht lange und die Freude des Heuchlers währt einen Augenblick?(dhs) Job 20:5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the hypocrite is but for a moment?(nkjv) ======= Job 20:6 ============ Job 20:6 "Though his loftiness reaches the heavens, And his head touches the clouds,(nasb) Job 20:6 ἐὰν ἀναβῇ εἰς οὐρανὸν αὐτοῦ τὰ δῶρα ἡ δὲ θυσία αὐτοῦ νεφῶν ἅψηται (lxx) Job 20:6 Si ascenderit usque ad cælum superbia ejus, et caput ejus nubes tetigerit,(vulgate) Job 20:6 Wenngleich seine Höhe in den Himmel reicht und sein Haupt an die Wolken rührt,(dhs) Job 20:6 Though his haughtiness mounts up to the heavens, And his head reaches to the clouds,(nkjv) ======= Job 20:7 ============ Job 20:7 He perishes forever like his refuse; Those who have seen him will say, 'Where is he?'(nasb) Job 20:7 ὅταν γὰρ δοκῇ ἤδη κατεστηρίχθαι τότε εἰς τέλος ἀπολεῖται οἱ δὲ ἰδόντες αὐτὸν ἐροῦσιν ποῦ ἐστιν (lxx) Job 20:7 quasi sterquilinium in fine perdetur, et qui eum viderant, dicent: Ubi est?(vulgate) Job 20:7 so wird er doch zuletzt umkommen wie Kot, daß die, welche ihn gesehen haben, werden sagen: Wo ist er?(dhs) Job 20:7 Yet he will perish forever like his own refuse; Those who have seen him will say, 'Where is he?'(nkjv) ======= Job 20:8 ============ Job 20:8 "He flies away like a dream, and they cannot find him; Even like a vision of the night he is chased away.(nasb) Job 20:8 ὥσπερ ἐνύπνιον ἐκπετασθὲν οὐ μὴ εὑρεθῇ ἔπτη δὲ ὥσπερ φάσμα νυκτερινόν (lxx) Job 20:8 Velut somnium avolans non invenietur: transiet sicut visio nocturna.(vulgate) Job 20:8 Wie ein Traum vergeht, so wird er auch nicht zu finden sein, und wie ein Gesicht in der Nacht verschwindet.(dhs) Job 20:8 He will fly away like a dream, and not be found; Yes, he will be chased away like a vision of the night.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:9 ============ Job 20:9 "The eye which saw him sees him no longer, And his place no longer beholds him.(nasb) Job 20:9 ὀφθαλμὸς παρέβλεψεν καὶ οὐ προσθήσει καὶ οὐκέτι προσνοήσει αὐτὸν ὁ τόπος αὐτοῦ (lxx) Job 20:9 Oculus qui eum viderat non videbit, neque ultra intuebitur eum locus suus.(vulgate) Job 20:9 Welch Auge ihn gesehen hat, wird ihn nicht mehr sehen; und seine Stätte wird ihn nicht mehr schauen.(dhs) Job 20:9 The eye that saw him will see him no more, Nor will his place behold him anymore.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:10 ============ Job 20:10 "His sons favor the poor, And his hands give back his wealth.(nasb) Job 20:10 τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ ὀλέσαισαν ἥττονες αἱ δὲ χεῖρες αὐτοῦ πυρσεύσαισαν ὀδύνας (lxx) Job 20:10 Filii ejus atterentur egestate, et manus illius reddent ei dolorem suum.(vulgate) Job 20:10 Seine Kinder werden betteln gehen, und seine Hände müssen seine Habe wieder hergeben.(dhs) Job 20:10 His children will seek the favor of the poor, And his hands will restore his wealth.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:11 ============ Job 20:11 "His bones are full of his youthful vigor, But it lies down with him in the dust.(nasb) Job 20:11 ὀστᾶ αὐτοῦ ἐνεπλήσθησαν νεότητος αὐτοῦ καὶ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ χώματος κοιμηθήσεται (lxx) Job 20:11 Ossa ejus implebuntur vitiis adolescentiæ ejus, et cum eo in pulvere dormient.(vulgate) Job 20:11 Seine Gebeine werden seine heimlichen Sünden wohl bezahlen, und sie werden sich mit ihm in die Erde legen.(dhs) Job 20:11 His bones are full of his youthful vigor, But it will lie down with him in the dust.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:12 ============ Job 20:12 "Though evil is sweet in his mouth And he hides it under his tongue,(nasb) Job 20:12 ἐὰν γλυκανθῇ ἐν στόματι αὐτοῦ κακία κρύψει αὐτὴν ὑπὸ τὴν γλῶσσαν αὐτοῦ (lxx) Job 20:12 Cum enim dulce fuerit in ore ejus malum, abscondet illud sub lingua sua.(vulgate) Job 20:12 Wenn ihm die Bosheit in seinem Munde wohl schmeckt, daß er sie birgt unter seiner Zunge,(dhs) Job 20:12 "Though evil is sweet in his mouth, And he hides it under his tongue,(nkjv) ======= Job 20:13 ============ Job 20:13 Though he desires it and will not let it go, But holds it in his mouth,(nasb) Job 20:13 οὐ φείσεται αὐτῆς καὶ οὐκ ἐγκαταλείψει αὐτὴν καὶ συνέξει αὐτὴν ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ λάρυγγος αὐτοῦ (lxx) Job 20:13 Parcet illi, et non derelinquet illud, et celabit in gutture suo.(vulgate) Job 20:13 daß er sie hegt und nicht losläßt und sie zurückhält in seinem Gaumen,(dhs) Job 20:13 Though he spares it and does not forsake it, But still keeps it in his mouth,(nkjv) ======= Job 20:14 ============ Job 20:14 Yet his food in his stomach is changed To the venom of cobras within him.(nasb) Job 20:14 καὶ οὐ μὴ δυνηθῇ βοηθῆσαι ἑαυτῷ χολὴ ἀσπίδος ἐν γαστρὶ αὐτοῦ (lxx) Job 20:14 Panis ejus in utero illius vertetur in fel aspidum intrinsecus.(vulgate) Job 20:14 so wird seine Speise inwendig im Leibe sich verwandeln in Otterngalle.(dhs) Job 20:14 Yet his food in his stomach turns sour; It becomes cobra venom within him.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:15 ============ Job 20:15 "He swallows riches, But will vomit them up; God will expel them from his belly.(nasb) Job 20:15 πλοῦτος ἀδίκως συναγόμενος ἐξεμεσθήσεται ἐξ οἰκίας αὐτοῦ ἐξελκύσει αὐτὸν ἄγγελος (lxx) Job 20:15 Divitias quas devoravit evomet, et de ventre illius extrahet eas Deus.(vulgate) Job 20:15 Die Güter, die er verschlungen hat, muß er wieder ausspeien, und Gott wird sie aus seinem Bauch stoßen.(dhs) Job 20:15 He swallows down riches And vomits them up again; God casts them out of his belly.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:16 ============ Job 20:16 "He sucks the poison of cobras; The viper's tongue slays him.(nasb) Job 20:16 θυμὸν δὲ δρακόντων θηλάσειεν ἀνέλοι δὲ αὐτὸν γλῶσσα ὄφεως (lxx) Job 20:16 Caput aspidum suget, et occidet eum lingua viperæ.(vulgate) Job 20:16 Er wird der Ottern Gift saugen, und die Zunge der Schlange wird ihn töten.(dhs) Job 20:16 He will suck the poison of cobras; The viper's tongue will slay him.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:17 ============ Job 20:17 "He does not look at the streams, The rivers flowing with honey and curds.(nasb) Job 20:17 μὴ ἴδοι ἄμελξιν νομάδων μηδὲ νομὰς μέλιτος καὶ βουτύρου (lxx) Job 20:17 (Non videat rivulos fluminis, torrentes mellis et butyri.)(vulgate) Job 20:17 Er wird nicht sehen die Ströme noch die Wasserbäche, die mit Honig und Butter fließen.(dhs) Job 20:17 He will not see the streams, The rivers flowing with honey and cream.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:18 ============ Job 20:18 "He returns what he has attained And cannot swallow it; As to the riches of his trading, He cannot even enjoy them.(nasb) Job 20:18 εἰς κενὰ καὶ μάταια ἐκοπίασεν πλοῦτον ἐξ οὗ οὐ γεύσεται ὥσπερ στρίφνος ἀμάσητος ἀκατάποτος (lxx) Job 20:18 Luet quæ fecit omnia, nec tamen consumetur: juxta multitudinem adinventionum suarum, sic et sustinebit.(vulgate) Job 20:18 Er wird arbeiten, und des nicht genießen; und seine Güter werden andern, daß er deren nicht froh wird.(dhs) Job 20:18 He will restore that for which he labored, And will not swallow it down; From the proceeds of business He will get no enjoyment.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:19 ============ Job 20:19 "For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor; He has seized a house which he has not built.(nasb) Job 20:19 πολλῶν γὰρ ἀδυνάτων οἴκους ἔθλασεν δίαιταν δὲ ἥρπασεν καὶ οὐκ ἔστησεν (lxx) Job 20:19 Quoniam confringens nudavit pauperes: domum rapuit, et non ædificavit eam.(vulgate) Job 20:19 Denn er hat unterdrückt und verlassen den Armen; er hat Häuser an sich gerissen, die er nicht erbaut hat.(dhs) Job 20:19 For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor, He has violently seized a house which he did not build.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:20 ============ Job 20:20 "Because he knew no quiet within him, He does not retain anything he desires.(nasb) Job 20:20 οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῦ σωτηρία τοῖς ὑπάρχουσιν ἐν ἐπιθυμίᾳ αὐτοῦ οὐ σωθήσεται (lxx) Job 20:20 Nec est satiatus venter ejus: et cum habuerit quæ concupierat, possidere non poterit.(vulgate) Job 20:20 Denn sein Wanst konnte nicht voll werden; so wird er mit seinem köstlichen Gut nicht entrinnen.(dhs) Job 20:20 "Because he knows no quietness in his heart, He will not save anything he desires.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:21 ============ Job 20:21 "Nothing remains for him to devour, Therefore his prosperity does not endure.(nasb) Job 20:21 οὐκ ἔστιν ὑπόλειμμα τοῖς βρώμασιν αὐτοῦ διὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ἀνθήσει αὐτοῦ τὰ ἀγαθά (lxx) Job 20:21 Non remansit de cibo ejus, et propterea nihil permanebit de bonis ejus.(vulgate) Job 20:21 Nichts blieb übrig vor seinem Fressen; darum wird sein gutes Leben keinen Bestand haben.(dhs) Job 20:21 Nothing is left for him to eat; Therefore his well-being will not last.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:22 ============ Job 20:22 "In the fullness of his plenty he will be cramped; The hand of everyone who suffers will come against him.(nasb) Job 20:22 ὅταν δὲ δοκῇ ἤδη πεπληρῶσθαι θλιβήσεται πᾶσα δὲ ἀνάγκη ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν ἐπελεύσεται (lxx) Job 20:22 Cum satiatus fuerit, arctabitur: æstuabit, et omnis dolor irruet super eum.(vulgate) Job 20:22 Wenn er gleich die Fülle und genug hat, wird ihm doch angst werden; aller Hand Mühsal wird über ihn kommen.(dhs) Job 20:22 In his self-sufficiency he will be in distress; Every hand of misery will come against him.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:23 ============ Job 20:23 "When he fills his belly, God will send His fierce anger on him And will rain it on him while he is eating.(nasb) Job 20:23 εἴ πως πληρώσαι γαστέρα αὐτοῦ ἐπαποστείλαι ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν θυμὸν ὀργῆς νίψαι ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν ὀδύνας (lxx) Job 20:23 Utinam impleatur venter ejus, ut emittat in eum iram furoris sui, et pluat super illum bellum suum.(vulgate) Job 20:23 Es wird ihm der Wanst einmal voll werden, wenn er wird den Grimm seines Zorns über ihn senden und über ihn wird regnen lassen seine Speise.(dhs) Job 20:23 When he is about to fill his stomach, God will cast on him the fury of His wrath, And will rain it on him while he is eating.(nkjv) ======= Job 20:24 ============ Job 20:24 "He may flee from the iron weapon, But the bronze bow will pierce him.(nasb) Job 20:24 καὶ οὐ μὴ σωθῇ ἐκ χειρὸς σιδήρου τρώσαι αὐτὸν τόξον χάλκειον (lxx) Job 20:24 Fugiet arma ferrea, et irruet in arcum æreum.(vulgate) Job 20:24 Er wird fliehen vor dem eisernen Harnisch, und der eherne Bogen wird ihn verjagen.(dhs) Job 20:24 He will flee from the iron weapon; Terrors come upon him,(nasb) Job 20:25 διεξέλθοι δὲ διὰ σώματος αὐτοῦ βέλος ἀστραπαὶ δὲ ἐν διαίταις αὐτοῦ περιπατήσαισαν ἐπ᾽ αὐτῷ φόβοι (lxx) Job 20:25 Eductus, et egrediens de vagina sua, et fulgurans in amaritudine sua: vadent et venient super eum horribiles.(vulgate) Job 20:25 Ein bloßes Schwert wird durch ihn ausgehen; und des Schwertes Blitz, der ihm bitter sein wird, wird mit Schrecken über ihn fahren.(dhs) Job 20:25 It is drawn, and comes out of the body; Yes, the glittering point comes out of his gall. Terrors come upon him;(nkjv) ======= Job 20:26 ============ Job 20:26 Complete darkness is held in reserve for his treasures, And unfanned fire will devour him; It will consume the survivor in his tent.(nasb) Job 20:26 πᾶν δὲ σκότος αὐτῷ ὑπομείναι κατέδεται αὐτὸν πῦρ ἄκαυστον κακώσαι δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπήλυτος τὸν οἶκον (lxx) Job 20:26 Omnes tenebræ absconditæ sunt in occultis ejus; devorabit eum ignis qui non succenditur: affligetur relictus in tabernaculo suo.(vulgate) Job 20:26 Es ist keine Finsternis da, die ihn verdecken möchte.
